Superb. Helpful, fun, and very talky.
Wicked good teacher. Incredibly easy. If only he didn't love the Lakers . . .
Love him.
He likes talk about his nascar days, You can flunk the test and get a a. He always go off the subject and he is so funny, you never have to go to class If you ask him the answers to the test he will give them to you
He's the easiest teacher ever. I can't believe you can take this class instead of English 205. Has a funny outlook on life and is never boring.
He seems easy, but he is after changing your life. He changes people and they seem to love it. He loves his students and will do anything to help them.
likes his good old days but really easy class. Gives A's if you can put up with the same old stories.
LETS PUT IT THIS WAY, I WOULDN'T SIT THROUGH EVEN ONE MORE OF HIS CLASSES IF YOU PAID ME!!!!
The class was all right--3 exams, all mult. choice w/no HW. He lets you use your notes & handouts on the exams too. A nice person who seems to enjoy teaching.
He is a very interesting teacher and for the most part he lets you use notes on all the tests which is really helpful. I think he is a really good teacher to take..tests a bit hard
if u have to take phil as a requirement, take him.no essays, just 3 exams,u use the handouts he gives u.make sure u read the handouts b4 the exam so u know where2look to answer questions.doesn't take role so don't bother going2class,just have the handouts
talks too much about himself. manages to offend everyone in the class but does it equally. hates michael moore. pissed me off all the time by the things he said. he was too into himself. grades only on the tests. lectures everyday
he can be very offensive sometimes, he read out of a book or handouts as lectures. gotta skim through all of his handouts and reading so it'll be easy to do the final. his essays are weirddd.bring food to class so the food can keep you from falling asleep
not helpful at all, so boring you can't even understand what he's talking about. don't bother to ask questions since his answers are the same as the questions. don't take his class!!!!!!!
I have never found such an awful proff ever! It seems as if he hates the world and ppl of religion.Always filled with negative comments, class is boring as hell! Talks on about himself and how great he feels to visit the concentration camps in germany.
Its NOT worth taking his class! Y would MESA ever hire this guy?! if u want an A, there are others to choose from! Its not worth this class! I rather keep my morals and principles then to take this class ever again!
I honestly don't know if it's hard or not yet since we're only graded on the final and a paper...that we haven't gotten back. It's boring and all he does is make liberals and Democrats the butt of his jokes...irritating
OMG! I don't know how I survived this class! Very boring class, don't learn much, lectures on his life, insults people. No quizzes or HW just 2 essays and final but very unclear! Everyone was confused on what are final was supposed to be on! Stay Away!
I took his class during summer, so he may be different during the year. I only had him for 8 weeks, but it was a boring and tedious 8 weeks. He was completely boring and unclear. Most of the time I had no idea what he was talking about.
No matter what other people said about Binter, I liked him! His class is not hard at all, only two essays and one final. He tells you exactly what is gonna be on the exam. I got an A for just attending classes and listen carefully in class.
WORST TEACHER EVER.i hated this class!Talks about women and sexuality most of the time, and tells stories of himself. No homework, but final sucks.Such random ques and his lectures are so bad. Please find another teacher.Really.BORING CLASS
i took it in summer. we just had quizzes and open book, notes and u can even ask him stuff during the test. u never go back to the previous topic. he does talk a lot and thinks himself a very amusing person. he is sensible but over critical. got an A.
Cool person. Interesting. Has some jagged edges. Appeals more to the developed thinker rather than the more narrow minded freshmen that he has to teach. Concise teacher, you have to be dumb to fail. I'd take his classes again.
Boring most of the time. Talks a lot about his life. Interesting if you are interested in hearing his stories. EASY EASY GRADER. Easiest class ever.
Not a bad guy. He makes the class as easy as he can. Open book/notes for all tests/quizzes. Took him at 630 in the morning, can really put u to sleep. There is no homework. Has a wacked out sense of humor.
Very easy class. Open note/book tests. Even answers questions during the test. Allows you to buy any edition book to save money. Very pessimistic towards life and in general but I still find him to be very funny. He even graded my final in front of me on the last day so I'd know my grade. Easy A
You either get it or you don't. But, if you don't get it, it's because you were probably slackin... like me... pretty easy class, funny lectures, try not to think about it too much and you'll do fine. He doesn't hand the class to you on a silver platter so you gotta study.
If you want to learn about the worlds most famous Atheists(John Paul Sartre, Feiedrich Nietzche, ect.) take binter. the Guy wrote his dissertation on Nietzche so be prepared to hear alot about that. Binter clearly has something against god or Christians. He talks alot about himself, but has some intersting stories. easy grader i thought, jes seems t
pretty boring guy unless u love to hear someone talk about themself every single day. the material itself is interesting but STRONG EMPHASIS ON SCIENCE. he talks about racing cars and tries to impress you by how smart he is.
Take him. Open book test, he won't tell you until the final, but they are. Engage him in conversations during class and you get an A.

THIS CLASS STINKS. Don't buy the book. You won't use it. This class should be called prof. bint. 101. Listen to him talk about himself everyday and you will do fine on the tests.
Easy grader but a Republican, which gets really annoying if you aren't.
Not for the faint of heart. This dude is not afraid to mix it up with students. He can seem arogant until later in the class. He's open, but will argue to see if you understand your own beliefs. I'll take another of his classes
Rad teacher
one of the smartest men alive. one of the funniest men alive. he has no shame and will say ANYTHING he believes is right, as anyone should. you will admire him and start to think differently when you take him. binter has lived a life you only wish you could live up to... the man raced cars with tony stewart, you fool.
Very one sided and refuses to aknowledge that he may not know every detail about everything. Lectures can be very unrelated to topic you should be learning
BORING Class. talks forevers. took in summer. 2 test and they were not clear. got a C. dont suggest this teacher
Profesor Binter Rocks!! Really easy class. Crystal clear you can't wrong!!
Easy class. Very low-stress. Mr. Binter knows his subject VERY well, but sometimes gets off track. I would recommend it. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK BEFORE CLASS STARTS.
Professor Binter is such a great teacher. He is a very intelligent guys with a lot to say. Pay attention in class and you will get an A. I wasn't even interested in Philosophy but he keeps it interesting with a lot of personal stories. Recommend this teacher to anyone! Would take any class that he teaches.
Easy class, but unbearable lectures unless you like middle school homor. Uses the same logical fallacies he teaches students learn to spot and avoid in his political diatribes. Professor Binter: "If you had been silent, you would have remained a philosopher."
Class is super easy. took his 6:25 am class. Goes off on a tangent OFTEN!!! open book quizzes. Take good notes, and you don't even USE the book. he made a couple sexiest jokes that i am not a fan of. swears quite a bit in class, get ready for that. Mumbles too. I recommend him if you want an easy A, and Philosophy is NOT your major
Not what I expected at all! His concern for what a student has to endure going to college is at the center of his teaching. People who don't like being challenged to think shouldn't expect to come away unmoved. Only people with a chip on their shoulder before coming to his class's could object. I learned a lot.
Disorganized, seemed very confused at times, often repeated the same crude anecdotes lecture after lecture. Teaches "his" own "philosophy" using handouts. His work doesn't sit on the shelf next to Sartre or Kant so why am I being forced to learn it instead of someone worthy's? Psuedointellectual who clearly has an agenda. He should also try taking
Took this class during the summer. He talks about the same thing every lecture. Out of the entire two and a half hour lecture, probably 20 minutes of it was relevant to the class. Boring and hard to sit through. Nonetheless, if you show up to class and pay attention you will do well.
Talked about the civil war, relationships, his glory days while in high school and how he isn't afraid of life...and maybe 15-20 minutes a day spent on our subject. Has an agenda, extremely right wing and lots of "middle school humor". Very easy class though...you just have to tolerate your teacher getting sidetracked.
Easy A. Every test is open book and open note. If you can make it to every class and get the notes, you will pass the test with no problem. He teaches the subject about 20% of the time during each class often going on a tangent about his high school days, the civil war, and his 66 GTO he had when he was a kid. I recommend taking this class!!!
WHAT?!! Professor Binter is still there? I took both his Philosophy classes PHIL 102A & PHIL 102B nearly 10 years ago and LOVED it! All the reviews here are correct. You'll either love or hate it. Definitely talks a lot about his glory days & goes into random tangents, but I thought it added to the course curriculum. Good times!
Great teacher! Quizzes every class, but they're all open book and open notes. Talks a lot about his past experiences but they're interesting though. It's true, you either hate him or love him. Very cool guy and kinda sexy for his age. Take his class, I totally recommend him!
If you show up, listen to the lectures (which he makes interesting)and take decent notes than you are a moron for not getting an A! Everything is open book and open notes!! He tells you exactly what to expect on tests and quizzes and best of all no homework! He is smart and interesting and pretty funny too. Goes of on a few tangents, but whatever.
He reminds me of Goerge Carlin. Take that however you want to. I enjoyed the class and he kept me from passing out at 6:30 AM!
Excellent professor. You must pay attention to understand that he is NOT arrogant, he's educated about his views, and encourages his students to do the same (i.e. teaching by EXAMPLE). Keeps book purchase low ($20). Stick it out and speak up in class! Will not "baby" you, but gives you everything you need to be successful. One of my favorites.
This professor is the one you want! Open book open notes for ALL tests. He lets you know what is going on all tests. Nothing hidden. he explains everything clearly. As long as you show up and pay attention you'll get an A. He definitely talks alot about his past which is actually pretty entertaining.
Easy, If your major is Philosophy DO NOT take him. If not, Take him Easy pass, and entertaining
Easy class if you participate, show up and listen. Take notes when he speaks on subject, he goes off about his life a lot. Likes to stir up discussion but doesn't care for disagreement, just trying to teach the lesson. Tests are open notes. Don't need book. Write two papers displaying knowledge of subjects. Little guidance throughout the class.
Mr. Binter was an awesome professor. Explained things well and made his expectations crystal clear. The subject matter can be difficult to understand, although some found it easy. Nevertheless, he was patient and very funny. I enjoyed his class and I learned a lot from him. More from him that the book actually.
I would recommend to take Joseph Binter for Philosophy. He never misses class and he prepares you very well for the quizes/tests. He does ramble on about random stuff but still a cool guy.
Professor Binter is not interested in logic, and does not think you should be either. Going to his class is like going to the movies: you might find it entertaining, but don't expect to learn much. If you're a Phil major or serious about your education, consider taking Logic with another professor.
Cool guy. LOVES to talk about himself. Some of the other comments here are a little mean-spirited. He is a nice guy. Just go sit on your numb butt (no breaks) for 16 weeks and get an A.
I recommend him. The material is covered clearly and you know exactly what to expect on tests. No assignments, just the short tests. He spends most of the lecture talking about his life and making jokes, but I found him interesting and enjoyable. Class can seem to drag on, though!
He's a good guy, he really likes to share his knowledge and wisdom. Philosophy can be confusing, but he makes it seems like simple logic. If you can listen, you will learn. We had a few tests, but nothing too heavy on the brain. I'd say it's an easy A, but it's only because he does a good job teaching it.
Very traditionalist, get used to having to put up with his vision of the world during class. Easy grader, all the tests are open notes and book. I did not study for his class one day in the entire semester which was fine because I was struggling with six other classes. Recommended if you are taking this class as a requirement
Relatively clear & nice instructor BUT goes off on tangents about his past. Entertaining in its way but can become annoying especially if you're in the 3.5 hour class. All tests are open note/ book and are easy if you're paying attention. Recommended for your GE requirements but if you're a philosophy major, you might want to try another teacher.
Reads through materials in class and goes off on tangents about his own past and repeats them. Whether you're into philosophy or not, be ready to be bored to death. Saying all of that though, the class is fairly easy to get a good grade in. Tests are multiple choice and open book. Really do not recommend him for anyone interested in philosophy.
Worst "teacher" as he teaches you nothing. If you want to learn philosophy, look up material online and you'll have better luck with self-study. No textbook but he writes reading material, which he will read at you. Your blood pressure will go through the roof and patience will be tested listening to his so-called lectures about himself. AVOID!!
Okay, Professor Binter's Philosophy class is an EASY A. He went over concepts thoroughly and if I did get confused on something he was ALWAYS willing to clarify things for me. Yes, he is rough around the edges. Yes, he will probably say things that are against your beliefs. But that is life, there will always be people who have different views.
Prof. Binter is a classically hilarious professor. He had some really controversial things to say but he would encourage students to keep an open mind. He's one of those professors that tends to go off topic (every day actually) and the material is kind of boring but it's easy if you study and pay attention when he's actually on topic
Binter is amazing. I loved his class the man is funny and he always has greats points about life. You can use all your notes for the test. No homework. Its a really easy class. He is actually is the easiest professor when it comes to philosophy.
Very informative class about the daily news, but goes off tangent a lot (everyday), and repeats his story a lot. No book required, but there is optional book (but you don't have to buy it). If your a philosophy major, don't take this class.
I think the class was pretty trivial. He gives handouts, reviews the handouts, and gives tests (you can use notes) based on the handouts he previously went over. Professor Binter spends a lot of the period going off on tangents. I think he was just trying to spark some curiosity in the room. He still covers all that is required for the tests.
Easy A! The professor goes off onto tangents for most of the class but they are always interesting, hilarious, and relatable to the real world. The tests are also easy because you are able to use the notes he gives you. Everything is there for you so there is no reason not to get an A unless you just do not show up for class. Also, no homework!
His lectures go off topic. He goes on and on about life. To others it may be inspiring but it gets irritating when he tries to push students to do something that is one sided. His views are conservative and he makes it known. It's a really easy class when he actually teaches. If you aren't interested in phil and just need the class, take his class.
CRAZY GUY!!! He's loves to bring up controversial topics just to tick some people off. There were many arguments in my class, some which took up almost 40 minutes of class time. The class itself is fairly easy. No textbook required, he makes his own notes which you can use on tests. Short tests almost every week, midterm take home, finaleasy.
Literally all you have to do for this class is just pay attention to the lecture. He lays everything out for you (I found very clearly) and allows open notes/open book on all of his exams. It's literally impossible to fail this class unless you skip or don't pay attention. Be sure to read his note packets, they add a lot.
AWESOME. just pay attention. great teacher to listen to. pretty humorous as well unless youre one of those liberal folk
Professor Binter is a great professor. He is clear in what he wants from his students and lets them know what's going to be on the test. Cares about his students and teaches lessons to students that they will hold onto forever.
Strange teaching style. Will tell you how you are all dumb since you are not as read as him and anyone who isn't falls into the same category. Doesn't care about your opinion or others if they are "not read up enough". Rambles on but when he actually covers material it is rather easy. Easy A if you can bare it.
This is the most racist professor I've have ever seen, He explicitly said, "USA should carpet bomb the entire middle east", that's like something that Hitler would say not a Professor of a University.
His class was one of the worst, as he did teach nothing but debated about random irrelevant topics, many of which were very offensive to minority students. Avoid this teacher & save your money, since you wont learn any logic or philosophy in his class.
This professor is amazing at taking an unfamiliar subject and making it digestible. He is very talented at what he does and his lectures really make you think on matters beyond what is in the text book. His test are open notes, and a challenge to fail them. If you attend class and ask questions and read the text there is no reason not to pass.
the worst class ever, as he did teach nothing but debated about random irrelevant topics, many of which were very offensive to minority students. Avoid this teacher & save your money, you will want to learn any logic or philosophy in his class unless you want to listen to him complaining.
Cranks up the ignorance talk after drop deadline. Uses class not to teach but to spread personal agenda and extreme propaganda. How he is allowed to do this?
You know the drop deadline has passed when he stops teaching Philosophy and starts spreading racism. Mesa College should be held responsible for his actions and hate spreading.
