Dr. Caddall is a very informative professor. He will help you & encourages u to come to his office hrs. Chem is not easy but he is real clear and will keep going over problems until you get it. I would definitely take him again
He is a very knowlegdable instructor, but if you have a heavy load in classes do not take this teacher...You will have to put in many hours to prepare for the test and the tests are very difficult...the average test score for his first exam was 67%....not many A's......
He is one of the best teacher in campus. He always wants to help you to solve the problems until you get it. I am so sad he is not teaching 102 next semester. I will recommend him to my friends who want to learn Chemistry, not only to pass class. He is great!!!
Dr. Caddell has a great teaching style and very clear, easy to digest lectures. He makes every effort to help his students and provides an extra study session and a practice test before each exam. Each class is packed w/ info and well worth attending. He makes this tough subject much easier and shows cool real world applications of chemistry.
Test were hard. Seemed as though material on tests were more complicated than what was in the text. Labs were easy. He spent little time on how to solve problems and more on simply regurgitating the text. Assigned practically ever problem in text. Seemed mostly disorganized and unsure how to explain himself. I managed to SQUEAK out an "A"
Dr. Caddell..nice guy, but class can be boring. If you plan on taking this class you must plan on putting in a maximum effort, it will not be easy. Tests are very difficult, you must spend a lot of time on all possible practice problems. Labs and clickers are easy free points, but worth only 35 % of grade. You must pull at least C's on tests.
Students needs to be prepared for this class. It is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. It will take time, effort, patience, sacrifice, and determination to do well in the class. Dr. Caddell is a cool guy. His tests are extremly hard, but he grades fairly. I was able to push in an A for the class.
Dr Caddell is cool teacher but his exams can be a little challenging but it is doable. Get to know his teaching format and you will do well in his class. The first two exams are the hardest so overstress on them. Show up to class, do his internet problems, understand the homework and you’ll get a decent grade.
he doesnt explain anything well, i got to give the guy credit for trying but he fails in clarity. i had no idea what was going on in the class and i am a math and science major. he is a nice guy, but i would not recomend his class to anyone
koo teacher just needed to get the homework problems worked out... they did not match his tests, besides that, hes one of the most chill teachers ive had, one of the boys..... and knows his stuff. Just got to work out those homework problems
DO THE HW!!! this has got to be one of the hardest classes, you must do all xtra work and read all material to do well. Hes very approachable, knows kool things and shares chem stories about what koo things to mix! lol. very tuff but knows his sh*t! if you ask he'll help as much as he can, great teachr will teach you alot but hes got to work on hw!
A great teacher who really enjoys teaching. He prepared me very well for chem 102. I took it at a different college and I felt that I was so much ahead of the other students because of Dr. Caddell.Key in his class to succeed is to do the homework over and over again.......
I was definitely not a math person, and still am not...Class would have been much easier had I not tried to take it in the summer!!!! That was the mistake. Dr Caddell is a very nice man, and he also will take the time to answer any questions.
Very hard to understand. Very smart, but doesn't know how to teach at all. Like listening to the book talk. Goes through material very fast, and not helpful when asking questions. I would never take another class with him. I have to take class at another school because of him.
Very good professor, will answer any questions you have, and is very fair. This class is not easy, but not is not impossible, it is what you would expect a chemistry class to be. There are no suprises on the test, if you do the assigned homework you will do well, if you don't well... you wont. I am very glad to have had taken Dr. Caddell.
I dont know why everyone complains, if you listen during lec then youll do fine, very helpful and answears questions during class and lab. I learned alot from the class, and I failed high school chem. The owl homework and clicker are easy points. Great teacher really wants the whole class to understand.
Dr. Caddell was very helpful. I wasn't interested in chemistry at all at the beginning of the semester, but by the end I was starting to enjoy it. Doing your online OWL homework is a must, it is very helpful in understanding the formulas.
This class is HARD! He's so patient & kind but he can't teach! He can't find the right words to explain things clearly! Boring monotone lectures on PP slides wayyy too fast! He got lazy and put it all on a disc for us so we don't have to write. I got a C. Owl was most helpful for the exams. Easy pts if u do all labs & clickers. 1 notecard per test.
Tough class. Got a "C", mostly an "A" student. Caddell wasn't lazy, just had some "slow" note takers that held up the rest of the class. Caddell is toooo patient with persons who are distracting for the rest of the class,...He is too tolerant of persons talking during lecture...but otherwise he is nice and is extremely fair.
had him for 143 and 101, he doesn't really explain things very clearly i think a lot of the times he is too smart to explain things so the class can grasp what he is saying, tests are most of your grade and they are hard, took a lot of time just studing on my own so i could understand things
Nice guy, passionate about chemistry, but what about teaching? Let everyone that wanted to add in, crowded the lecture hall and lab. Spent 90% of the time going over Concepts that are easy to learn from the book, and 0 time spent on TEACHING the hardest part of the course such as calculations, dimension analysis, etc. Unorganized and 40 clicker.
At first I thought he was an alright teacher. I loved the labs and I understood the HW well, but only by reading the book. He spent too much time answering dumb questions. His tests didn't follow lecture. I like to know an instructors test style, but he changed his all the time.
A super nice guy. He's brilliant, so much so that it's difficult for him to break things down to student level understanding. Very tough class. Allows people to hijack the class with stupid questions. He won't move on, just keeps trying to explain it.
avoid at all cost. he has a difficult time explaining concepts or understanding students questions.
his tests are not an accurate reflection of the material covered in class each exam covers 2-3 chapters is worth 100 points, and consists of 15 multiple choice + 3 work out problems.. there is no homework that you get credit for so your grade is basically the tests which everyone seems to fail... MJC needs more than one chemistry teacher
Does not assign homework, tells you to try questions in book and bring questions to discussion, problem is, he already canceled two weeks of discussion this semester... His lectures make the subject matter entirely harder then it really is. His tests are INSANELY hard considering the small amount of material we cover. I do not recommend.
he is clear and you think you understand things until you get to his tests then you question whether you were even there or not.
i am a nursing major and when students ask about a chem proff i always recommend cadell. i never learned any chem in high school so if anyone can teach me college chemestry from the basics, then that makes a great proff. he was very helpful and the class is supposed to be challenging with anyone you take. ask questions and dont miss class.
Hard as hell, but you can bet your ass your gonna know the inside and outside of chemistry when you are done.
i did not take chem i high school ,, this teacher is greater very helpful i would tkae him agian and because of this proff i plan on taking more chemistry
Good overall. He was hard to follow sometimes but he was always available during office hours to help. Always attend lecture and study from any practice study exams that he gives you to learn his testing style.
quick question. are you guys collage students writing this or HIGH SCHOOL. NUMBER 1. man up and get over it its college and its chemistry its gana be hard. NUMBER 2. DR Caddell is one of the most helpful wonderful teacher on campus so get your head in the game its gana be hard its chemistry read the book go to lectures and read ahead.
Dr.Caddell is a very helpful teacher. He is very patience also. He will answer all your questions, even dumb one! Chemistry is hard class, and no one says it is easy class. If you want to do well on this class, you have to put effort by yourself.
Dr. Caddell was a fantastic teacher. I hate chemistry but he made it ok. He is always willing to answer questions, work out problems. He is very nice, not intimidating or strict. He is very clear on what assignments need to be done. One of the best things, he allows students to rework missed exam questions for an additional 10% added to exam scores
aww i loved dr. caddell! the class was really hard..but im no good at chem anyway..but i managed to pass the class..DO THE HOMEWORK! his test questions usually come straight from the assigned homework questions he gives..so there are really no surprises..very sweet guy, really nerdy, but very helpful and wants you to pass
I failed every midterm exams but he passed me with a C because i kept showning up to his class. He is the man to help you folks.
He's really smart, but doesn't relay his information to others well. All he does in class is examples of problems. I found he was disorganized. Maybe my learning style and his teaching style didn't mix well?... He does care about his students though, and likes to help them.
I failed every mid term but still passed with a C because i kept showing up. Great guy but tough and genious.
Pros: Super nice/cool guy. Always tries his hardest to communicate material and explain things clearly. Cons: His hardest isn't enough, communicating quantum mechanics and VSPER theory to someone is hard enough, but when you don't have any natural ability to do so then its just sucks
The lectures were helpful in learning the material and studying is a MUST! It seemed he had a REALLY hard time communicating with people, sort of as he had to dumb down to speak to us. Labs were fun to say the least, but his exams were RIDICULOUS, the exams looked NOTHING like the homework he assigned and I dont see how anyone could pass with an A
Dr. Caddell himself is a decent guy, but he doesn't teach very well. He summarizes the textbook to the most basic level and provides very basic examples in class. Homework isn't too bad. The problem is tests include complex problems the class has never experienced. He told us that the class average on tests was around a 60%. You won't get an A.
I did all the homework, showed up to every class, took good notes, and understood everything he asked us to know. Come test time, I found that the problems were all above and beyond what we covered. I got above a 4.0 in high school. Got a C in his class. He can be a nice guy and all, but at the end of the day, he can't do his job and teach.
you will take just three exams and one final and clicker points and that's all your grade and that's not fair. homework is suggested and not graded and you doing it for your own benefit. he is not good in explaining.
He's a nice guy but the class is kinda hard. A lot of it is like self teaching based on the hw and then some of the questions on his tests are like on the most random things in the book especially on his final. He tries really hard to teach the material well but he's unclear about a lot things. Then again chemistry's just a hard subject to teach
i survived... most dont lol its true his test are crazy.. questions are random and he likes to put questions that were mention maybe once or twice then end up a good portion of the test
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!!! Does not help at all and acts like a total know-it-all because he has a PhD. He does know what he's teaching but doesn't care whether he's actually teaching you. Don't take him unless you absolutely have to! Then, be very afraid!
Very bad man, his lectures are impossible to understand. You are better off watching a nat geo special. I asked him how I should study and he said, "don't read the book, just do the problems..." HOW do you do the problems without knowing how?!!! I thought scientists were rational?! NOT this guy! STAY AWAY!!!
lectures were good, hes actually a pretty good teacher and everything was crystal clear, where the problem lies is the ridiculous exams he gave. I can honestly say they were nearly impossible to decipher because none of the problems on there looked like the homework. I dropped out of this class at MJC and got an A on it at a University
i got an A in his class. Awesome teacher. he assigns no homework. gives no quizes . just clicker questions. His test fairly easy. He lets you use a 3 by 5 card. what else can you ask for.
If you don't have to take this class dont take it. There is three or four tests and the grade comes from those tests and a few percents from clicker point questions in class and that makes it hard.
This class was very difficult. Much time is needed to cover the entire book and pretty much teach yourself because the class time is not much and the Exams are twice as complicated as the hw. I would recommend him if you are willing to spend the time to learn the subject on your own besides the lecturing done in class. I need to retake the class..
This class was not as hard as it sounded at first... If you want to take this class make sure you attend class every day and do all cumulative problems.. all test questions are from hw....nothing new...you can ask hw problems during discussion class....it was an easy A and teacher is very helpful
He was kind of monotone, but definitely fair.
do the cumulative questions until you don't need to look at the book. If you can do that then you take his exams. The only reason his tests are hard is because people will tell you his tests are hard. DONT PSYCH YOURSELF OUT!!
EVERYBODY SAYS THAT DR CADDELL IS HARD. ITS JUST THAT CHEM 101 IS NOT A EASY CLASS WELL MY NAME IS HAMZA AND AT THE BEGNING WHEN I TOOK THE FIRST TEST I WAS GOING TO DROP THE CLASS BUT I DIDNT (DO THE CUMLUATIVE PRO) I THINK DR CADDELL IS A VERY NICE GUY ( WHEN YOU HAVE A HARD PROFESSOR AT THE BEGINING IT MAKES IT EASIER AT THE LONG RUN) TAKE HIM.
I've always had an interest in Chemistry, and since I need a lab course to transfer, I decided to take this one, thinking I could manage it. The average on the first test was about a 40%, and it was much the same throughout the semester. Most of the class failed. If you don't *HAVE* to take this course, don't. Take a different lab course.
Dr. Caddell is extremely nice and is always willing to help! Ask questions and do your homework. He is very reasonable! He does everything he can to help you pass! I don't understand why his ratings are so low. Chem is hard!!! I am terrible at Math and hate Chem but Dr. Caddell is AWESOME!!!
Mr. Caddell is by far a great teacher for chem 143. If you work hard and put the time and effort you are bound to get a good grade in his class. He has a simple grading and he just wants you to do well. I would take this teacher again.
Caddell's a good guy. This is a rather difficult class though...The first section of the class is by far the most difficult and seems to only be there to scare everyone into dropping. The second portion is significantly easier (I got a 100% on the rework) then third part is kinda hard again. Only 20 questions for each exam. Study hard.
Okay, if you're going to take Caddell, my best advice is to treat this class like your only class. Even if you get an A on both the homework & the labs, you can still fail the class (tests are CRAZY hard). He's not the easiest to understand in lectures, so READ all materials BEFORE class! I can't stress this enough. He's a difficult teacher.
Caddell is a great professor, he gives great lecture notes and helps students with questions in discussion. The tests are hard but if you do the hw and study hard you will do fine.
Overall, this is an easy course. Caddell made a point to take the time during lecture to cater to the questions of the not so intelligent students, as well as teach what we needed to know for tests. Your grade on the homework will most likely reflect your test grades. Also, CADDELL YOU ARE SO HOT, CALL ME MAYBE?
Dr Caddell is the real deal. He expects the same level of work at JC that will be expected after you transfer. He loves chem, is quiet, and has an even quieter/science-y sense of humor (it IS there!). He WILL tell you how to study: DO this and you will do well-there is not a second way! its this: Keep up with all the work, and do it over and over.
Caddell is very nice and soft spoken. He knows the material well and tries not to dump it all on you at once. He has problems with analogies, but that isn't a lack of intelligence on his part, it's just the nature of chemistry. He is clear on is demands and has a cheesy/nerdy sense of humor. I like it. He may be a little dry for some students.
He is a great teacher, but the material is extremely hard. You WILL have to read your book, take notes, study your notes, do the hw, and do all labs. I got Ds on 2 tests but he lets you do rework for 5% more. He wants you to learn where you went wrong. I passed with a B but I worked my butt off for it. Great class!!
Dr. Caddell is an educated person, but he can't transfer his information to the students, and he speak supper slow, and you can't even understand him, and his online Homework always have problem even if you get right answer it marks you wrong, and you get more confuse.
He is not a good Professor for chem there are better teachers at MJC. Everything you do is online except for the exams which are only twenty questions and its worth a hundred points. The notes you take aren't that helpful. Right now over half of his class has a d or f and theres only about 20 of us left. I WOULD NOT recommend you take him
Caddell's teaching style does not fit the subject. Chem is a tough subject that requires a lot of attention to detail. His lectures rarely relate to what's on the exams! You pretty much have to teach yourself. Exams are extremely difficult and he makes sure to put the hardest of problems! Good guy not so good instructor!
Chem 101 is a 5 unit lab class and should be treated as such. Attendance is mandatory if you want to succeed. My only complaint about Caddell is he could put more effort into preparing students for tests. A study guide perhaps, maybe some practice problems. Everything tested was covered in class. Background of intermediate algebra will help.
I don't recommend this instructor. He is really confusing and his homework are really hard.He doesn't know how teach and his class is really boring.Do not take this course with him.
Very hard class but with dedication and hard work it is totally do-able! Caddell is always willing to answer questions students have. Very helpful! Tough class but make sure to do all the online homework! They are useful tools when studying for exams!
After reading past reviews I was nervous to take this class. Now I don't understand why the bad reviews. Dr. Caddell was an awesome professor! He explains everything really well, is more than willing to go over it with you. You get to fill up a 3x5 card with notes to use on exams and you get 5% back on your score if you re-work missed problems.
He sucks at teaching. His lab assistant Baines is a better teacher than him. His tests are hard and there are too many online homework.
I would have to say that this is the hardest class I have ever taken.I'll admit he's a nice guy but he is a really bad teacher. Is studied and tried so hard to understand the material, but his way of teaching sucks. I didn't learn a thing in his class! Also, if you haven't taken Chem-142 then don't take him because he expects you to know all that.
Dr. Caddell is a helpful teacher. If you have questions, ask him in discussion. If you have a question, and you cannot wait for discussion, you can go to his office; he is always willing to help. The people who have stated otherwise are lazy, lying, loafers. The tests are based on the material covered, and they are very easy tests. Godd day!
Great class, you'll learn a lot if you want to. Very difficult teacher to take however, his tests very similar to the homework so if you are really familiar with the homework problems you should do fine. This was however, the hardest class I have ever taken but I hadn't taken 142 or any chemistry since high school about 6 years ago.
This class was really hard. I think it's partly the material, but also he has a hard time explaining it in a way that makes sense. Once I understood something I could think of several different ways of explaining it that would've made it easier. I got an A, but I had to work hard for it. He is nice and I never felt embarrassed to ask questions.
Caddell's class is very simple and makes chemistry very easy and understandable. Just do the homework for your own practice(he doesn't grade or check it) but every quiz is based off homework. The labs require work and need pre-lab papers done before lab. His directions are very clear and just have to follow his lab instructions. Read both books!
Lots of work, tests harder than homework, lectures do not help as much for the tests, picky on labs with sig figs and conclusions, but very willing to help, nice guy, dry lectures with a hint of nerdy humor. he does let you use a 3 by 5 card on tests though.
Caddell is a very nice professor that is willing to help if you ask, but his lectures don't help with quizzes or tests. There are 10 point quizzes almost every week and tests are 25 questions. He's very picky when it comes to sig figs on labs so you easily lose points on simple things. I wouldn't recommend his class unless you can focus only on it.
Don't take this class unless you have the time to mainly focus on this course. You have to spend a lot of time teaching yourself the material for quizzes and tests. His lectures aren't good and he's picky when it comes to grading. He's a nice man but I wish I would've taken this class with another professor.
You have to get As on quizzestestslabs to pass. Hard grader, tricky multiple choice tests, doesn't curve anything when class average is failing. attendance only necessary for quizzeslabs. If you have a C or lower by mid-class then don't expect to pass. Take another teacher if you can or wait until you transfer. If failing it, get that W instead!
I took Caddell while at MJC. I am now at a university. At the time I thought his lectures were dry, however I felt like I was learning. Now looking back I see he was probably the best Chem teacher at MJC. If you are majoring in Chemistry, take Caddell. If you want to truly learn Chemistry, take Caddell. If not, look elsewhere.
Work hard for lab. Study. Understand the concepts. Dont just memorize. Look through presentations yourself and practice on homework. Caddell is a great guy. I just wish the 60 QUESTION final wasn't timed for an hour. It stressed me out that we barely got enough time to finish and it ruined my day. The time was very unfair and we had no notecards.
Caddell is a great professor ! He makes sure to teach the concepts well!Labs are straightforward! (pay attention to sig figs) Make sure you do well on quizzes, its really nice of him to let us use a notecard on both the EXAM and QUIZ!! Also do the homework!! It is the key to doing well in his class!! Loved his class!!
Really great professor and just a great person in general! He's very eager to help his students and is more than willing to spend extra time with them to cover any topics of confusion. Although his tests are diffucult, they are straightforward, and he gives very generous extra-credit opportunities on almost all his exams. I highly recommend him!
Chem 101 is not an easy class -- you really have to commit to doing the homework and participating in class discussions. But Dr. Caddell was always available to help answer homework problems and answer questions. I enjoyed his teaching style, which included powerpoint slides during lecture and working out problems on the white board.
Chemistry is NOT easy! I had virtually no knowledge of it at all, but still managed to pass with a high B. Dr. Caddell is always willing to answer questions and shows concern when students are stuck. He also allows note cards and test corrections, and is clear about what will be on the test. HW is not collected, but be sure to do it!
Absolutely amazing professor. I had taken Hulsey prior to him and they do not compare, Caddell is a lot better at teaching the material, making everything easy and understandable. Definitely recommend taking him because how could you say no to 3x5 cards on tests and quizzes?
Dr. Caddell is just a great person and professor. I heard horrible things about chemistry, but he explained things very well. Note cards on quizzes and tests! I would highly recommend him!
I'm so glad I took Dr. Caddell for chem. I was dreading this class, but actually enjoyed it! He allows a 3x5 on tests and quizzes and 5% credit for test corrections! Homework is not collected, but necessary to understand the concepts. He is very in tune with the class and has a wonderful calm demeanor. One of the best at MJC!
I will be honest here: I had to retake his class. The material is very difficult if you are not 110% prepared for the class. Dr. Caddell is incredibly passionate about chemistry and that passion is catching. If you want to do well in the class, you need to do your homework TWICE and ask questions. He is completely willing to help you learn.
Dr Caddelle is an AMAZSING instructor, he is very clear on what he would like you to focus on. He is very fair and is very good at assigning homework that will help you on your test. (no tricks) Best thing is he has a way to explain Chem. very well. His lectures R great too. He is easy to talk too and will give you his time to explain. Luv Him!!!
Dr. Caddelle is my FAV!!! He is very good at explaining Chem. Very approchable, willing to spend time and go over material. Gives HW that you will be tested on and Quizes wkly. His lectures are good, allows feed back and questions without making you feel stupid. He keeps Chem intresting.
Dr. Caddell is a great chemistry professor. He explains things clearly and is excited about the topic. His tests and quizzes are challenging but should not be a problem for most if you do the homework.
Dr. Caddell is very approachable and will explain to you as much as you need him to, he doesn't make you feel stupid. He gives weekly quizzes and biweekly exams and you are allowed 1 note card for these tests. Homework is assigned but not collected, it's really a study guide for his exams. I would definitely recommend him as your chem professor.
Although the concept of Chemistry is not the easiest to grasp, Caddell makes it fun and enjoyable. His passion for Chemistry and teaching is infectious. Go to lectures, take advantage of discussion, do the HW, do the labs and it will be a breeze. He is so approachable and just wants his students to succeed. By far 1 of my favorite professors!
Caddelle is very clear. Gives you plenty of hints on what to study and the homework he gives you, he will test you on so there is no suprises. He has got a great personality and is an amazing professor. Very approchable and always willing to help students learn. Thanks Caddelle you are the best instructor ever. I would totally take him again!
Very cool guy. I received an A, but I never missed a lab, lecture, or the study skills class. Also, I did all of the homework (this is important). Watch those sig figseasiest way to loose points.
This was my second time taking Chem. I am so glad I took it with Caddell. He was so willing to help and is extremely approachable. He wants you to pass this class and he tells you how. Chem is a difficult class as it is but he really tries to help his students out. Don't miss lectures or labs unless you have to and do the homework. Great professor!
Be prepared be on your own. Caddell's lectures cover VERY little of what you actually need to know for quizzes and exams, so you are on your own to read the chapters, do the homework (which you don't get credit for) and then take weekly quizzes. Caddell also has great difficulty getting his point out and when he does it's still unclear.
As a person he is a rally cool guy and he knows what he's doing, but he doesn't really know how to give simple explanations for certain topics. Personally, he confused me more than actually helped me. He has his moments of course but not always. ALWAYS DO THE HOMEWORK EVEN IF YOU DONT GET CREDIT! Homework problems are always on the test and exams.
Be prepared to just teach yourself chemistry . He assigns hw problems that he doesn't cover during lectures and expects you to know how to do them . Overall he doesn't teach. You teach yourself
VERY HARD!!! DOESNT EXPLAIN ANYTHING.. EXPECT TO TEACH YOURSELF CHEMISTRY
He doesn't make lectures mandatory, but I went to every one and aced the class because of it. He works out problems in his lectures that directly correlate with his exams and quizzes. The library has a copy of the textbook- if you don't want to buy one, check it out if you're struggling. The homework WILL help you, and so will Caddel. He's awesome!
I took the CHEM-101 Hybrid class and I have yet to regret a life decision more. The immense workload, on top of irrelevant lectures to test material make this class a horrible experience
Dr. Caddell's hybrid class consists of 5-10 minute Youtube videos. During lecture he shows students how to do the problems, but does not get into the specifics of the topic which makes it difficult to understand what you are doing if the subject is not understood. I am not sure why this class is only offered as a hybrid class at MJC.
Caddell is a difficult professor. He expects his students to visit his youtube channel and website powerpoints before even stepping into the classrooom. He doesnt know how to explain it properly. He will assign homework from the book or online. His test have no mercy. He doesn't motivate his students. You spend hours in labs that are worth 5%
Dr. Caddell is one of the most amazing chemistry professor i have come across. His class is not easy at all. But it all depends if you are ready to work hard to earn a good grade. I took 101 and 102 with him and got a B in 101 and an A in 102. Yes, it is a lot of work but everything is straight forward. His test are EXACTLY like the homework!!
Dr. Caddell is great. The tests are comprised of the homework he gives, so that is the key to success! Still, super hard class (at least for me). He allows cheat cards on his exams, so that's a plus. His videos are easily accessable anytime, so you can always review!
This is a hard class in general. I feel that Dr. Caddell was always very helpful when I had classes. He also doesn't require you to buy a textbook! Make sure you study and do your labs and work like in any class and you'll be good. He also let's you do corrections for your tests and replaces your lowest score with your final.
Dr. Caddell is great. Chem is a tough subject. His online lectures are easy to follow, and he lays out the important info that you need to know. He is nice in person, and will always take the time to help answer questions during office hours or even during lab. Grading policies are fair and help you learn the material where you need it to succeed!
Dr. Caddell is awesome! He is easy to get along with and respond quickly, and will help with any questions! Go to class, ask questions, keep asking questions, and do his homework repetitively and you will pass! He makes Chem very enjoyable and to be honest don't be scared away, I will gladly take Chem again with him considering math is my weakness.
He teaches a difficult class so he's more difficult! He factors in how hard you've worked in the semester when giving final grades. Labs are super fun. Matt (the lab tech) and Dr. Caddell have lab mythology. If you take him, ask about the lab monkey. He's also available online and in person if you need help. He allows cheat cards on tests.
I am a straight A student and this class was very challenging for me. There are quizzes every week or every other week on the homework questions and no midterms. The quizzes are 10 multiple choice questions in 30 minutes and are very hard to do well on. Also TAKE HIS MOSTLY online class, I have heard his in class lectures are not helpful.
I got almost a 100% in chem 101. I got an "A" in all my physics and calculus classes. I have a "b-" in this guys class. Maybe it is because I have his online class. It is hard being prepared for his quizzes every week when I have other classes as well. I also wish he gave 40 minutes for each exam and not 30
Yes, there was a midterm just about every week, but it was based solely on the homework. I didn't like that there wasn't a lot of time for the tests, but his office hours saved my life this semester. If you come prepared with questions, he does an amazing job explaining the concepts. He really knows his stuff.
Exams every other week are draining but beneficial. Online lectures are short and to the point and he doesn't have students turn in hw, but for success do the hw as not doing it will reflect on exam scores. He's a difficult professor but I feel that it's a must to get students prepared for Ochem.
Very, very helpful. He will let you ask as many questions as you need. I recommend if you take the chem 143, also take his chem 133 class. It is helpful to do all homework in there and go over all exam material as well. Be careful with your significant figures, you can lose a lot of points with those!
Take at a different school if you can W / a different professor. . Does not explain things but gives you the trickiest and difficult type tests. Sets his tests up where somehow you can feel comfortable but always where its not in your probability to get as good a score you think you got, or just shut your ability down to even do good, its crazy
Gives his tests in 30 min. intervals, with not a second extra. Tests are straight tricks usually. Never seen so many people drop in one semester, he makes it much more diffifcult than needed to pass this class and it gets frustrating unless your a Chem natural.
Finally passed! This was my second attempt at chemistry. I understood his way of teaching than when I took it with Roselanic. Hybrid class worked for me. Online lectures were straight forward. 30 min Exams every week, go prepared because that time flies by. Take chem 133 for additional help. Great professor, very helpful.
Here is the thing with Dr. Caddell, he really does know the material, but he is not great at communicating it. This is to be taken with a grain of salt as I took his online class. In my opinion, it is basic teaching skills, like show me don't tell me, that he lacks. Some students thrive under this hands off style of teaching; I didn't.
Dr. Caddell is very sweet and knows everything there is to know about Chemistry. However, this was the hardest class I have ever taken in my life. Needless to say, it was a hybrid. Know your material before you take the weekly quizzes. That's all I can say. You miss one you're already down 10% and the quizzes are 70% of your grade. Labs are fun.
Don't take his hybrid 102 course. Chem is something that is natural for me but being put under the time constraints of his exams I am doing terrible. His lectures are mediocre and all the examples in them are nothing like what he will ask on his exams. He will go over all hw but it doesn't help if you are not taught that way first.
Not helpful. His lectures online were broad and his homework examples were nothing like what was on the tests. He explained labs and then sat for the rest of class instead of actually walking through it step by step. The final is not made by him which kinda doesn't help when you've already gotten used to his testing style. Do not take this class
This professor teaches chemistry as if everyone else already knows the subject matter. There are no clear explanations during lab and all in all the whole coarse just seems all over the place. Chemistry is already difficult enough but taking this class definitely made it even harder for me to understand. Thumbs down
I read every chapter and then did all the homework 3 times a day for a few days, so when it came to exam time I already did all the homework about 10 times and was able to get a 10/10 on all of them, but he is a hard grader on the labs i got a 9/10 on almost all of them and a couple 8/10. The acs wasn't hard at all. The exam scores saved me.
He is not helpful with homework and his tests are SO HARD compared to the homework. The whole class is based off test grades which are only 10 questions so if you do bad your grade plummets. I worked so hard in this class and got a C. Bye Bye 4.0 GPA..
I absolutely loved Professor Caddell. He is such an amazing professor and you can tell he really loves what he does. I took the hybrid class. He makes the labs very clear and he posts all of the lectures online with a follow up quiz. He is very straight forward on what he wants from his students. He is amazing! TAKE HIM!
I took him over summer and loved it! By far the most caring prof I've ever had. Chem 102 is hard you have to put in time but if you ever need help he's always willing to help. Labs are very easy with him because he's always walking around making sure everything is correct. Do the homework over and over again and you'll do great on his exams.
Caddell is such an AMAZING PERSON! He helped me with my special needs that I needed and I appreciate that so much! One thing I will say is you will have to work your butt off but not impossible! One thing I love is he gives you an index card at every test helps a lot! Also if you dont understand GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS! That will help ALOT!
Dr. Caddell is one of the best professors I've taken. I'm not so great at math but his YouTube videos work WONDERS. Clear grading and homework/ quiz due dates. VERY organized. HE WANTS YOU TO PASS. Put in the work and he will make sure you succeed. Requires a good amount of studying but duh, it's chemistry. Take him over any other Chem professor!
Dr. Caddel is nice but an aweful teacher. He does not teach, he hands out packets and has you figure them out without any teaching before hand, only 10 minute YouTube videos that get you threw maybe 1 problem. He is not helpful when you ask him to explain, poor communication
This class is a disaster! I would not recommend anyone to take this course with him especially STEM majors. Save yourself!!!!
Horrible
I'm not sure if this class is supposed to be taught like this or if Professor Caddell just chooses to have his class set up like this. Lecture is online..5-10 min. videos. You get 30 minutes to do the exams, usually 10 questions. Exams every week and you are responsible to teach yourself. If you have any questions, He is willing to help.
I've gotten an A in every single calculus and physics course on this campus. I also aced Chem 101. Im confident I will get a B or C in his class. Lecture videos are almost useless and don't reflect his exams. I don't understand the 30 minute constraint for his exams. You're graded almost based on speed rather than understanding. Take it elsewhere.
Listen. This is a difficult class and Dr. Caddell takes a more laidback approach with it.I think some reviews are upset with just how much you have to do yourself. But if youre looking to transfer, thats college for ya. Caddell offered plenty of help throughout the semester and to the very end. Study hard. Dont expect an easy A. Hes a solid guy
Every week you will have a quiz based on 10 questions for 30 minutes. Be prepared for independent study and there are NO lectures. The videos alone will not be enough information to pass this class. Get a study group and a tutor because this class is extremely difficult. The fault in this class is lack of feedback for homework problems.
Hes such a horrible professor. I dont understand his approach in running the class the way he does. Its Chemistry! Its a tough subject, and a teacher thats willing to lecture and hold discussions is needed. Take this class at another school. He doesnt teach.
He's great at Chemistry, but not teaching. I took AP Chem in HS l & understood a lot of the concepts, but Caddell deconstructed simple concepts to the point of confusion. He doesn't use a normal textbook, he uses some free online eBook filled with errors (ghetto af). You would think he'd start with the fundamentals, but he goes in a bizarre order.
Dr. Caddell is a very caring professor that wants you to do well. That being said, only motivated students will do well in his class. You have a week to study for each exam, but there is an exam every week. They are harder than you think, so doing the homework and watching videos online is helpful. Exams are most of the grade in the class.
Did not like the way this guy runs his class!!!!
Prof Caddell is very nice and willing to help you outside of class, but his tests are extremely difficult. There is a test every week, ten multiple choice questions, and the questions are math problems, not concepts. His lectures are all online even if you have an all live class. The lectures have few, easy examples that do not help for the test.
I am not sure why these ratings are below par. I just completed chem 143, and feel pretty lucky to have had Mr. Caddell as an instructor. He makes his expectations super clear, and all instructional materials are totally aligned to the assessments. Chemistry is very difficult, but he wants us to learn. I thought he was a very effective teacher.
He' OK I guess. While he could go a bit more out of his way to make a better presentation of his material, it is sufficient to succeed in this class and do well on the ACS. It's there if you want it, but he shows little enthusiasm and is awkward to talk to. Dr. Caddell is a very intelligent chemist, but not much of a teacher. Stereotypical of STEM
Very passionate prof. I took him 2018 summer and he is very helpful to students. He's always willing to help and labs feel very comfortable because he walks around and helps students. It's a tough class because material is only calculations but just do the homework over and over again and you will do just fine. I wish I could take his class again.
This class took so many days of my life like no other course I have ever taken before. He was an ok professor, there's worse, but there's also better. Lectures are fast paced and heavy. Some examples, but flies right through them. I just wish this class went slower. Otherwise, he is open to helping outside of class and responds quickly in canvas.
Reading his reviews confuse me bc I just finished his chem 143 Hybrid course and loved him! I was nervous about taking chem as a hybrid but he makes it easy and smooth. Such a helpful professor and will explain something to you over and over until you understand. Take his extra unit class, it is extremely helpful!!!
Nothing but good things to say about him! Took his hybrid and I highly recommend it. He doesn't technically give hw. He gives "hw" but it's really just a test study guide. You do not get points for doing it but they are the exact same problems that will be on the test so it helps a lot to do them. Sign up for his extra unit class.
I took his hybrid class. Very hard class, especially since I struggle with math. He responds quick and is always willing to help. Get to use 4x6cheat cards for tests but not the final. I had to get a tutor and was barely able to pass. no extra credit but 60%-79% is a C in his class. Never used the book.
He was a tough grader and gave zero xtra credit. You basically had to teach yourself the course because he just sits in class and doesnt say anything just shows us how to do lab but thats it. You watch YouTube vids and teach yourself. He doesnt care for his students to pass.
Hes an alright teacher but I think he should update the way he presents his material and the online lectures should be more extensive giving more detail on homework problems he gives. He only Grades labs, tests and quizzes but hes chill. Hes the hardest teacher Ive had and you have to work to get a decent grade.
I was looking forward to take Cadell's class during the summer as I've heard many positive reviews about him from peers. But, because of COVID19, CHEM143 shifted online (lecture+lab). This is only my 1st week in class, & he is not as understanding as I expected. He's making us use Proctorio which is a system that is very inconvenient for many!!
I tried to ask him a question on the class site and he did not even answer my question. He thinks that calculator is not working. Does not help at all really.
This is an extremely difficult class. It is a hybrid with lecture online. The lectures give some sample problems and some formulas but he doesn't go in depth. There is a lot of packet work and homeowrk. Tests every week with only 45 minutes to take them. He is a hard professor so just be prepared to spend a lot of time on the class.
He seems like a nice person but he is a terrible professor. He gives you easy to solve examples in lecture that barely scratch the surface of whats on homework or on tests. To be fair he is somewhat available in office hours but that doesn't make up for us basically having to teach ourselves everything. He may as well not even lecture.
Doesn't actually teach, lets students flounder about and try to teach themselves.
Honestly, I don't recommend taking him, try to take this course somewhere else. The tests at 60% of your grade with 9 tests, 1 midterm, and 1 final. This is an extremely difficult class and easy to fail.
He is awful. 70% of your grade comes from the tests alone and there are 11 of them
Dr. Caddell is very specific. His class is basically weighted by your exams. His reviews are confusing. His lectures are short and concise. but rewatch them and LISTEN to the details. Hard class but his hw and support class help you. Do not take this course if you are trying to get by because you will fail. You need to study and comprehend material
This class is VERY challenging. As long as you eat breathe and sleep chemistry youll pass the class. Professor Caddell has gone above and beyond for his students to understand the material. If there are negative reviews its because they are not trying hard enough. You have to PUT IN THE WORK! YouTube videos help too.
The worst teach I have ever had in college this far. He is absolutely rude and does not seem to care about his students. He wants you to fail and does not offer extra credit what so ever. He made me feel stupid and wants me to pretty much do the homework on my own and not offer help that much.
Extremely test heavy; the grade book is mostly barren other than exams. Quizzes are only worth 1 point each. If you take this class online, good luck. He holds no zoom meetings for questions. Lectures are from 4 years ago and are very short+vague. His labs are very unfair; I lost 20% once for two sig fig errors. He gives absolutely NO extra credit.
Not willing to help you with labs reports or hw. No credit throughout the course let alone extra credit. A lot of tests weekly. His discussion board not helpful. Lectures are not helpful and overall YOUTUBE is BETTER!!
Even for an online class the professor wasnt very approachable. His short lecture videos only covered surface level content that didnt prepare us for his tests. Tests were 10 questions inflated to 100 points, and the lab reports were picked apart. You could get a 10 percent deduction for format, like using bullet points instead of Roman numerals.
In his class now, first felt like I was teaching myself. Reached out during office hours & was so helpful. Never made me feel dumb for questions. Test heavy but he drops the lowest exam and 5 quizzes. Sigfigs are biggest error on labs, have a tutor go over them with you (takes 5 mins) and you'll pass. Also 60% is considered a C (passing) Take him.
Great teacher. His class is straight forward; watch videos (take notes to memorize), complete labs (given data, just calculate and plug-in), and apply the information when doing exams (10-15 questions each, plus notecard of notes). If your struggling JUST ASK and he'll help you, and attend office hour if you need the 1 on 1 time for help.
Not only is this a hard class to begin with, but taking it during a pandemic where you have to do everything online, highly NOT recommended. I felt as though Professor Caddell doesnt really care if you pass or not, unlike other professors Ive had who actually want you to succeed. If you dont do good on the exams, you wont pass.
He teaches chemistry, so it's a given that the class will be more difficult than others. If you put in the work and do all of the practice worksheets that he gives out, you should be fine. Just make sure you pay attention to how he wants his labs and follow the sample lab report. His final is much easier than the individual exams. Good luck!
This is a hard class, there's A LOT of information so you need a lot of time to study. Test almost every week, some of the tests were harder than others, I think some tests needed more time. Dr Caddell is a good guy and will answer any questions, I took this with anatomy which I would not suggest doing unless you have no other responsibilities.
This guy is good at his job. It's up to you to put in the work, though. The basic structure is centered around 10 exams that he gives semi-weekly. The exam problems are based on worksheets. You have to actually seriously review those worksheets. Sometimes he will just copy and paste from them. His discussions are not mandatory but might as well be.
This professor exudes brutal work. from 70% on exams; of those exams he weasels in 2Qs/10Qs re-covering past material as if consuming the weekly material wasn't enough creating a buffer putting you at bland Bs. no extra credit. and some of the Qs on H/W are different from the ones he shows in his videos. underteaches. and expects perfection.
11 MC exams (feels relentless) and 5 labs (will take 10%+ off for sig figs). But drops the lowest score of each. The content takes time (not his fault)... but he also doesn't give much context for it. Proctorio policy: face, hands, and work top visible at all times (back ache). HW + synced zoom meetings optional but an A is only possible with them.
Do anything you can to avoid taking him. He won't teach you so you'll have to teach yourself everything.
I just want to say that this teacher is nice but would I take him again NOOOO. There is exam every week and you final grade depends on it. Theres only one assignment to do which is the lab thats worth 10% only. He dosent explain and his lectures are complicated. Consider taking another professor. I hated my life in this class. Awful class
This teacher dosent explain well and he expects we should know them easily. Exams are worth your final grade, the labs dosent worth much. I just want him to give extra credit and more assignment and less exams. Heavy on uploading to the lecture. DOSENT EXPLAIN WELL AND YOU TEACH THE CLASS TO YOUR SELF. Run and take another professor.
Dr. Caddell is really nice and caring. Hes very good at explaining when you have questions! This is good since online lectures are very quick. He is quick at answering questions out of class too and does so thoroughly! However, this class is exam heavy and 80% of your grade comes from the exam. Study and find classmates to help and youll pass!
This class is the hardest I have ever taken. I adore STEM classes of every kind, but Dr. Caddell's teaching style is extremely ineffective. The class consisted of teaching yourself how to pass his tests using his worksheets. "Lectures" were videos of him solving math problems without explaining theory in depth. I had a 4.0 (60+ units) before this.
Just a terrible teacher. I am taking his class right now and his class is unnecessarily hard with difficult tests and long labs. Your entire grade depends on a 10 question 45 minute test given every week so if you are a bad test taker this is not the class for you.
Great class. There are no surprises on the material that you are expected to know. Does a great job at explaining any questions you might have. Keep up on the material every week and you'll do fine. The class is difficult but what do you expect... its stem
Challenging class, but doing worksheets helps and I did learn a lot of things. The lectures are there as a introduction and the worksheets try to expand on the lectures.
Awful just awful...he's a really tough grader and won't tell you what you did wrong, answers on worksheet keys are wrong sometimes, and tests are every week and are very hard. His lectures are very unclear and it's hard to get any help. Don't take him if you don't have to!
Great class, clear structure. I see a lot of reviews on here saying that he's a tough grader but the truth is you guys didn't put in the work. Chemistry, as with many other STEM courses, are difficult by nature. If you put in the time to study and follow his advice, you WILL be successful in this class and have fun.
Not very good at teaching and bad at answering questions. Avoid if you can.
Dr.Caddell is an awesome professor and I recommend taking him if possible. The class itself is very hard so don't hesitate to reach out to him with any question, just make sure you're specific with them. No, he doesn't answer emails, he gets over 100 a day but he says in the beginning of the semester to Canvas message him. Good luck! :)
This teacher does not teach chemistry the typical way you would think a teacher would teach it. Concepts are hard to grasp with this professor, it is a glorified math class, feeling almost like an SI session more than anything. Do not take this class. He expects you to know how to do the math portion without any in-depth concept review. Stay Away:)
Dr. Caddell is an amazing professor. I was nervous to take this class, but I ended up enjoying it and have a new appreciation for chemistry. Dr. Caddell does everything he can to help his students succeed. I highly recommend him to anyone looking to take chemistry.
Dr. Caddell is an awesome and caring professor. He takes the time to help you, if you ask. He responds to emails in a timely manner. His video lectures are clear and concise. He post Q&A's in Discussion. He tells you how to pass this class, which is to STUDY the HOMEWORK (it's the study guide for the exams)! Apply yourself, or don't expect to pass.
Mr. Caddell is a teacher who grades hard. Participation matters & there are timed quizzes once a week. Super cool & tries too hard to make this class fun, but hes just awkward. He seemed lazy bc his lectures are recorded & are on YouTube. You have to write notes & review the lecture on your own. The labs are awfully explained. Dont recommend.
Lectures are mostly useless when it comes to quizzes, worksheets, and exams. Walkthrough on worksheets are useless the majority of the time as well. Disheartening class for those that enjoy STEM.
Chem is hard but his lectures make it easy, the Labs aren't hard, just make sure you do your math correctly, and for the tests, do the HW because the test has a bunch of problems on the HW, and he lets you have an index card for the first 3 exams. NO quizzes, NO HW that you turn in, only things in the grade book are labs and exams, in-person btw
Professor Caddell is reachable outside of class and will answer any and all questions you have in person. He is picky with labs but ask him if he can review them before you turn it in. He gives 3 major exams that are solely based on the homework assignments he tells you to do. Practice the homework assignments before the test and get a 3x5 card.
This class is challenging, and it takes work, but it is doable. That being said, all his lectures online, plus what is reviewed in person. His labs are fun and simple; just follow instructions and watch the videos. He's helpful during the lab and helps look over lab reports. Exams aren't challenging as long as you do the homework.
I took 101 with another Professor and had no other choice to choose Caddell for 102. I went from loving chemistry to hating it. Caddell is very unapproachable. He makes 102 simply about learning math formulas and nothing else. He goes crazy if your lab is missing a certain sig fig. Takes forever to grade labs. Avoid if you can.... Does not curve.
Lecture was online, and labs were in-person. Dr. Caddell has pre-recorded videos for the chapters that can get a bit dry or may not explain concepts that well. Labs and reports need to be done perfect so be on top of that. Final is the ACS test which covers BOTH 101 and 102! Replaces lowest exam with final grade. Drops lowest lab.
I took from Dr. Caddell's Chem 102 Hybrid class, and he was a good professor. Very exam-heavy course. You can get a good grade on the exams if you set aside plenty of time to study the worksheets he has made available to the class. The same holds true for the final. If given the chance, I would take from him again.
All of the lectures are online. The lectures themselves are straight to the point on how to solve a given type of problem using math, but inadequately explain the actual chemistry behind everything. Very exam heavy! Do the worksheets! Professor Caddell himself is a good man, but he just happens to teach a very difficult class.
Hard work pays off in this course, clear grading criteria, very accessible & willing to meet you halfway. Passionate about chemistry, very bright mind, do not hesitate to ask follow up questions during lectures as easily tangents into abstractions. Great feedback, no BS tolerance, COLLEGE LEVEL EXPECTATIONS (SHOCKER)!
Professor Caddell is a kind, intelligent and patient professor. However, due to the constraints placed on him from the MJC administration, the CHEM-102 class is extremely difficult as there are no discussions, no lectures (beyond 30 mins before a quiz to ask questions on lab day). Granted there are videos, but can be hard to follow. Just be ready..
Chem 143 was harder than 101 and that says a lot, did not help either that you are on your own and need to teach yourself when it comes to chemistry. Caddell is a great man, but you need to be exact with lab reports as he will dock off anything, resulting in a bad grade. He is really only there for labs and exams honestly, not the best teacher.
Our chemistry professors' deficiency in science negatively impacts the quality of education in chemistry class, as quantum physics serves as the foundation for understanding atoms, molecules, chemical reactions, and chemical concepts of quantum metallurgy of stable isotopes, potentially hindering students' success in advanced chemistry studies.
Caddell is a very nice man but not suited for teaching the fundamentals of chemistry. His 143 class is more challenging than the 101 and the basics of chemistry are never taught. His lectures are on youtube from 6 years ago and basically only shows an example of how to solve the problems. You do not learn anything about chemistry in this class.
Professor Caddell is a great person. I took Chem 101 with him during the summer. LET ME TELL YOU THIS CLASS WAS ONE OF THE HARDEST CLASSES I HAVE EVER TAKEN AT MJC. His class is incredibly challenging. I suggest watching his lectures but also youtube videos on the concept. You must work hard to get the grade you want. NO BS.
Class in super hard, but not impossible. Make sure to watch the lectures and then some on your own. Other than that, its not bad. Final is super difficult but if you do good through the semester, the final doesn't hurt too much. LEARN YOUR SIG FIGS.
Doc C was a great chem instructor. His lectures were short, sweet and right to the point which I appreciated. It made understanding each concept as easy as possible. His exams were based off the homework that he provides which you do not have to turn in but it would behoove of you to complete AT LEAST once.
This professor does NOT believe in extra credits. Does not give credit for home work. On test he will put all the right wrong anwsers on the test, so if you do the problem wrong and you will get an anwser but unless you know the material 100 percent you will be trick to thinking you got it right.
I took CHEM143 over summer and Dr. Caddell was great! He truly cares about his students and does everything he can to help them succeed. He explains the material clearly and the labs are fun. I began the class being terrified of chemistry and it ended up being one of my favorite classes. 100% recommend to anyone who needs to take chem!
I took this class twice before I got a C. I think he is a harsh grader especially on the labs. No homework in this class for credit and only 3 tests and a final. I had to really study for this class and got out with a C. This was definitely my hardest class at JC so far.
A lot of studying outside of class needed to understand the concepts and pass. Very challenging class. Only 3 exams, the final and about a dozen labs to receive a grade.
Cadell's course is a difficult one. You are only graded on a few things, labs and exams other than that there is nothing else.I would be prepared to take time out of class to study and really grasp an understanding of the material.Though what helped is that the hw questions he gives are exactly like the exam with only the numbers being different.
Dr.Caddell was willing to work with my tight summer schedule though he did get pretty annoyed working on it with me. He also is a harsh grader on labs as well, always remember sig figs and units!! Things were tight since this was a summer course but was for sure a weed out course. Have to really know the content to do good on exams.
Took Chem143 during summer(15weeks), I would recommend chem summer class. Was really bad at chem before class but turned out to be easy. Quiz every week(10-15Q), lectures straightforward, labs easy. Studystudystudy and you will pass, I would study 3-4 days before exam, DO the hw(not graded but very helpful). Final exam hard, butjustdowellonpastexams
Is a good man, very intelligent just not the best at teaching, expect to do lots of learning on your own to better understand. Lab instructions were a bit vague at times and would easily dock off points for sig figs and simple mistakes.
Professor Caddell's class is challenging, but manageable if you put in the work. The homework and practice problems are key - they're very similar to the exams. Unstuck study ai was a great study tool alongside the class materials.
I would suggest not taking this class with him unless you also have to take chem 102. I will say the lectures kill you sometimes to sit through. Make sure to do the worksheets he has or else you will not do good on the quizzes or exams.
He was great but a pretty difficult grader and will doc off points for simple mistakes like sig figs and such but it only helps you get better. Make sure you study for exams and be in class. Watch the videos posted. He drops your lowest lab and exam grade and make sure to study extra for exam 3 since it was heaviest of materials.
He's pretty lenient on due dates and he's willing to look at your labs ahead of time. He is a very tough grader though and it's annoying on labs to be dinged for small things when his lab procedures are riddled with errors. He also does not communicate expectations very well. Overall just turn in your lab early and ask him to check it.
Dr. Caddell is very smart with chemistry but he is not the best teacher. If you want to pass be sure to do the worksheets he has on the canvas modules, his exams are of similar material to the worksheet problems. Also watch the lecture vids he has on canvas because it will make lecture A LOT easier to comprehend.
loved Mr. Caddel; Lecture heavy but he made it enjoyable. Nice when asking for feedback as long as it wasn't right before the due date. Exams were okay but be warned, he has 3 exams where he allows notecards + the whole period and in the final he removes notecards, cuts the time you have and increases the questions which was a really hard adjustment
The class was hard for exams (the final is a standardized one that the entire nation has to do). Sig figs and labs are important, but he replies quick to emails and always helps on anything. He's very caring and offered a support class - which I recommend to take. It's hard, but he's always there to help you do well - so go to him when you need to.
Was very considerate and helpful. Sign up for his support class, they are before lecture and the help tremendously!
Beware on the final you only get 60 minutes for 50 questions and no index card. The whole class was scrambling on the last 20 questions because nobody had time to do the equations. Also beware that with this professor you will be teaching yourself most of the time and when you go to him for help he is very careless and negligent. Good luck!
I took it as a hybrid class with lab once a week. Theres a 10-15 question exam every week with a notecard, and exams were worth 65% of your grade. The final is a 60-question exam, you get no notecard for and 50 minutes. Do good before the final and you'll be okay. However, a C is 60-80% in his class, so if you need to just pass I recommend him.
Dr. Caddell was a pretty good professor this semester. I had him hybrid online and in person. You need to watch the online lectures to do well or you obviously will not. He seems caring and is pretty funny. He does mark off for small things like sigfigs, but overall you'll do well if you pay attention and put in effort.
Learn sig figs EARLY-get HW revised before you turn in-he'll tell you the mistakes so you get full points-responds QUICK! 1 side of notecard for exams but none on the final. Class won't prepare you for the mandatory STATE final exam of 60 mins for 50 questions so ur cooked unless you did well on previous exams. Overall nice and helpful!
Dr. Caddell is a kind and professional professor. I really liked his lectures and the many practice questions he provided. He has helped me with my understanding of chemistry and applying problem solving skills to real life to solve problems. A lot of the big ideas he taught have stuck with me and it was overall a challenging but great course.
Overall he is a great professor! he responds fast and is always willing to help! On sig figs he can deduct points for those the most but if you show it to him prior, he'll help you out on what you did wrong before you submit it. He allows notecards on test, the final was the most hardest 60 mins with no notecard. Just study study study!
Dropped this class. It was way too difficult. So much homework every week. A quiz every week. All the homework is worth 1pt, and the exams carry all of your grade. He doesn't teach, he basically expects you to know everything. Doesn't explain things well. Total class average for the first exam was 50%??? Youtube chem tutor is better at explaining.
This professor doesn't provide much help, and barely provides help himself for formulas and such. Doesn't speak as loudly as he needs to and briefly goes over very deep concepts, and the test/quiz questions are nothing like the examples he gives. Started with over 30 students, now it's down to 14. Overall, a very unhelpful and bad professor.
Very clear in his expectations. Quizzes every week but he offers a second chance after he goes over similar questions in class. Some of his videos online were too quiet and hard to understand.
