His class is absolutely amazing. Cannon shows a lot of enthusiasm and passion for teaching. He's rather laid back and makes you feel at home. But his tests are quite challenging. Very entertaining, fun, educational and well worth your time and money.

I cannot imagine that I will ever attend a class like this ever again . . . there are no words. I mean, one of our in class assignments was to figure out how to feasibly legalize prostitution (to determine if it is possible, of course)! Superb!

Dr. Cannon makes the class very intersting and is open for discussions. He makes you really think outside the box. He has a wonderful way of presenting the material and also holding your attention. I recommend students to study under him.

READ THE BOOK! Intro to Marriage and Family is an awesome class, especially with this professor. He's pretty understanding and good natured.

This teacher is really interesting and funny! He wants to help students get a good grade! He gives you study guides for every test (even the final) and it's exactly what's on the test if you do the study guide really good and study it. He's hot too! Oh, and he makes jokes!

Dr. Cannon is an amazing professor. His class is difficult if you let yourself get behind, but he wants everyone to do well and has a great teaching style and genuinely cares about his stuidents.

He will only make you feel stupid if you ARE stupid. If you can't grasp concepts and only like factual information to memorize, you should not take this class. If you are a true thinker and like to use your mind, Cannon is the****. He makes good use of his class time to get students thinking.

Professor Cannon is one of the most interesting professors I have ever taken. His class is not very easy, nor is it hard. If you try, and read the book, you will do fine. If you are considering taking SOCI 1101, definitely take Cannon. He is extremely interesting and funny. He made a 2 1/2 hour class fly by.

I took him for the Honors class. He's a good teacher, and definitely knows his material. His sense of humor makes for a fun classroom discussion. Spend a lot of time on your final paper, however, as he grades it critically.

I took his intro to social problems class. he makes it very interesting and knows his stuff. you dont use the book that much in class, but be sure to read up outside of class. his tests are hard but he gives you study guides that help you right along with the test. very easy to pay attention because his class is very interesting. highly reccomended

If you've ever seen Tough Crowd with Colling Quinn and liked it, you'll love Sociology with Doc Cannon. The class was a laugh a minute. If you have no personality or ability to voice an opinion, this might not be the class for you. However, if you enjoy lively debate and discussion, have at it. You won't regret it.

Extremely talented and interested teacher. His highest strengths are his open-mindedness, unbiased social relativism (which is crucial to a sociologist), and his willingness to help students by open discussion, examples, and personal experiences. *HIGHLY* recommend!

Cannon's class is fun but be warned its not easy. Only 1 person made an A and 10 people failed the class, given some didn't try at all. You will definetly have fun and he is always willing to help people outside of class. Great guy and great class but be warned the tests are extremely hard!!!

He's awesome about helping students who need it, and he's articulate and fun in class. Tests are hard. You HAVE to study.

One of my all time favorite classes. Dr. Cannon is like a stand up comic who loves for his students to join in. However, I did notice tension between him and another male student who dropped the class for mysterious reasons. Dr. Cannon was pretty harsh on him and I'll never know why. Oh well. I made an A and he's cute!

Dr. Cannon is awesome. All you have to do is read the chapters and study the handouts. His group lessons really liven up the class and he is funny. He gives plenty of bonus points. You WILL have to think so don't take this class if you are brain dead and looking for an easy A.

Dr. Cannon = best all-around college professor that I've had. He's knowledgeable, informative, friendly, and funny. Class discussions involving non-commonplace ideas are commonplace. Tests aren't easy, but they're designed to assess what you know. Don't blame Cannon; the subject matter itself demands analysis, which will require personal effort.

Very nice guy. Class is very relaxed and is usually a group discussion. He doesn't care if you don't come to class. You will have to read the book, but you'll do fine if you do. I came to class and payed attention (though with only minimal reading) and made a B.

It's very interesting to learn some of the points Cannon brings up. However, the majority of time in class is students talking about their personal lives. Cannon picked a few favorites and the whole class time spent was he and those favorites having a discussion. Read the books. Look at the handouts. You'll pass

Professor Cannon is a very good teacher. He knows the material back and forth, but sometimes explains it from an expert's point of view rather than from that of a clueless student. Discussions were good and thought provoking, but personal input usually waits until he is done rambling. My only complaint is he doesnt return assignments in time.

I took him for more than one class because I think he makes his courses very interesting. His multiple choice tests were super tricky. I was more interested in the class than the grade though...

I thoroughly enjoyed the forum of Dr. Cannon's class. He incorporated group collaboration, group discussion, and his expert knowledge into 50 minutes three days a week which provided a great atmosphere for learning. I looked forward to attending his class, and I highly recommend him as a professor. He is also very helpful during his office hours.

I found his class to be very interesting and very difficult. But if you are willing to work hard, listen and ask questions for clearity then getting an "A" wont be hard. Class participation is recommended. Outstanding teacher with great personality.

Dr. Cannon is great, his assignments/tests can be hard though(I took an honors course so the regular stuff might not be as difficult). If you don't understand something he will take as much time as you need to explain it. He is funny and wonderful to listen to, it's sort of like therapy sometimes! Definitely take him if you can! He is always trying to make students laugh and is a really nice guy. Test questions come straight from lectures and handouts...if you just read those you'll have no problem making an A. A lot of in-class group work, too which counts toward your participation grade.

His class is interesting. He is open-minded to whatever students think or may write about, and is a really nice guy. I was not so into sociology in the begining, but I really learned alot about life because of this class. Overall he is a really good teacher; however, beware of Joey and his tests.

Honors - LOVED IT! My all-time favorite class. Psyc and Soc are my favs so I love the subject anyway, but I also love Cannon's style. I like analysis and thinking and talking about things on a deeper level, so this was right up my tree. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED it! I had to work hard for the A, did almost all the bonus opps, but loved every minute.

Dr. Cannon is so knowledgeable in SO many subjects. I had him for honors and we got off topic alot but it was by far my favorite class of the semester. You have to work hard but he really gives great lectures and if you come to class prepared you will enjoy yourself. Im taking him next semester just for fun!

Professor Cannon definitely knows his material - tends to only cover certain sections so you wind up doing a lot of independent study. Exam questions are not straight forward, so definitely study and know the material. Does a lot of group work in class - you also get three points every time you attend class.

Dr. Cannon makes this course an experience for the student. The material is very straightforward and tests are very easy if you study even a little. He teaches straight from the book, but also puts in his own knowledge. Very funny guy, loved his class. Easy A.

I had Dr. Cannon for marriage and family sociology back in 2007. Because of this man and his passion for his students and his field, I ended up changing my major to sociology, graduating with my bachelors in it, and now am pursuing a masters in a related field. He is a hard professor, but if you want to learn, he is more than willing to teach you.

Professor Cannon is a wonderful guy. His class was very engaging, discussions were always interesting. But there is a lot of studying. You need the text book and he gives very detailed study guides but it is a lot of information so don't study last minute. He does offer extra credit. There are 4 tests and one writing assignment.

He is a wonderful teacher. Really engaged the students in the lecture. You have to read the book and study, but if you put the work in, the class is very rewarding. I would definitely recommend. It's one of those college classes you don't forget.

Hilarious man. Easily one of my favorite teachers. He likes to have discussions with us even though sometimes we don't give in a lot of input back (It's our fault). Even when some students get rude, he continues to help no matter what. I swear, the guy's patience is unlimited.

He is really helpful when you are struggling to understand the concept. You have to study every night for this class for like 3 hours and really work at it. He has a grading option for his tests and its so helpful. overall really good teacher but have to put in a lot of effort

Cannon is a gem of a person and an amazing professor. He's cool as hell. People make cracks at Sociology, but Cannon made me adore it. He knows his field well and encourages excellent, diverse debate. Not only is he very caring, but you can seriously write about ANYTHING in your papers as long as you make it relevant. I can't recommend him enough.

I hate to say it but the only thing i did not like was the exams are so confusing. He makes sure you know what you know. I learned soo much from his class than any other professor. He gives you all the opportunities to get an A and you are dumb not to take them. Don't complain later.

If you follow them you won't have any problem getting a good grade! He also gives a bonus point option after each exam, and an extra credit assignment.

Its been a few years since Ive taken this class. I found this link by googling Dr. Cannon in the hopes of finding his info to get a grad school rec,but he is one of the best college professors Ive ever had. I ended up majoring in soc because of him.I cant really attest to the course load and difficulty of the class but recommend this prof 10/10

Dr. Cannon is my favorite professor I had during my years at Georgia State. Its not an easy A but thats not what makes a teacher great. His passion for sociology shines through in every lesson, he encourages you to work hard but is available to help and answer questions. I loved his courses so much it inspired me to get my degree in sociology

Dr. Cannon is A+++!!! 7 Modules, 3 Exams, Project, 2 bonus. I took him for Honors and yes, you will write so papers on each module, exams, project and bonuses. It's worth it, his lectures are interesting, you will learn ALOT! I wish I could take him again for other courses. Read the book, watch the lectures, follow the rubric and you will do great.

Textbook REQUIRED w/o it u cant pass. ik textbooks look big and boring but READ the chapters YOU WONT REGRETIt, SO eye opening!,as well as his lectures everyone should take this class! only thing i dreaded was group activities every class.I would like themto be every other class.
