Oh my F'in God - Taking Joe's class is like going to see Richard Pryor stand - up everytime you meet. You will laugh your butt-off! If you don't like to have fun than take someone else's class. Oh - and he's a great teacher on top of that!

Extremely fair and helpful, not to mention professor of the year. He is very concerned about his students (I bet he is even reading this). Can't stress his class enough, just have to be willing to show up to every class and put in your share of time into the essays and you'll do well.

Basic format of 4~5 out of class essays and two in class essays. Your success in this class definately requires some effort on your part. However, I assure you that Professor Carrithers lives up to his part by being clear in his instructions and giving adequate examples. He's one of the best to learn from.

Took Engl 103 with a bit of fear because english is not my first lenguage. This instructor is just unique! His classes are clear, funny, challenging, interesting. This class is a must!

He is a great teacher gives you a lot of chances if don't turn in one essay he will offer you extra credit and workshops so you could get an A. His essays are really easy and the little quizes that he gives you are totally easy you just have to read little short stories and you will pass the quizes. If you pay attention you will pass the class.

I thought this class would be easy, but Joe is a pretty hard grader. Follow exactly what the rubric asks of you and make sure you remember all the skills (grammar, works cited, citing) that were learned from previous classes. 6 essays are expected . He quizzes on reading material and makes you read a really boring and treacherous book about media.

REALLY funny, nice, and helpful teacher. One of the best I've ever had. Grading is pretty stringent, but quizzes, project, and EC are easy to earn a 100, so can bring up your grade to an A or B. Just make sure you do it all, with a little bit of effort. Definitely recommended.

Quite simply, one of the best teachers I have ever had throughout my life. He's absolutely hilarious and is one of the friendliest professors one could have. He isn't extremely hard, but he does expect you to put in effort. Basically, you have to work in that class to pull of an 'A'. He definitely helped me with my writing. Highly recommended.

This teacher is one of the coolest and funniest teachers I've ever had. He makes the class fun yet stays strict on his lessons at the same time, just the right mix to keep you working hard. Awesome class, if your willing to do the work it's a must take.

i read such great posts about him. i wanted to learn/gain something from an eng writing class, so i chose his. I learned absolutely NOTHING. I got a B. i tried hard for an A. If i wanted to learn nothing, I could've easily taken another and gotten an A. He's stringent on grading doesn't allow individual style. his way or the highway. he sucks. boo!

I took Joe Carrithers my first year at Fullerton college and he was a great influence. His essays are ineresting and worth writing. he is hilarious and definitely a big help. He made me want to change my major to english and now i am an english major and i love it! definitely take him for an english class!!

I must say that Dr. Carrithers is a wonderful professor. Literature is particularly not my forte. This is especially true when it is discussed in a morning class. However, Carrithers made the context interesting with his humor and style. He reminded me of Robin Williams with a southern accent. Quizzes add up. Ask ask him to say “Cool Whip.”

Contrary to belief, you can get a good grade if you do what you're told, which he ALWAYS explains CRYSTAL CLEAR. Pity to those who post how it's impossible to get a better grade because they don't get what the prof is asking for. Outstanding and funny prof. Pity to those who don't understand his sense of humor. Joe is by far one of the BEST English Prof. I have ever had! He's fair, funny, organized, and really cares about his students. He doesn't play hid the ball, and is crystal clear on what he expects of you. On the plus side, he's hilarious! I love his stories, and his tales of Mississippi. Def a one of a kind Prof. who will make you enjoy English!

He was not what i expected. although he made a lot of jokes and his class was funny i didn't learn as much in his class as i would have liked to. His quizzes are difficult, but if you B the essays then you should be able to pass the class. I liked his southern accent, it made the class interesting.

He is a really good teacher. Has a good sense of humor, you never know what he is going to say next. There are 3 out of class essays which aren't too bad and 8 reading quizzes which are way hard if you don't read! I recommend taking advantage of all the extra credit to drop the quiz grades!

Funny guy. Very unique and dry sense of humor. In class-essays for exams. I felt I improved in my writing through his class, really helped me see how to analyze literature. He is not the type of professor who is going to be your best friend, but I would recommend him.

Really nice guy, very helpful and always willing to bend the rules a little bit. But, as for the class material, i didn't learn much and in fact changed my major after taking this class. This class helps you determine if you really want to major in english, or if you just like the subject.

Take his class. Its the easiest class in the world and is an easy A. Tests are easy and based on reading. He covers all of the reading in class. Drops lowest test score and paper score. I don't know why there are so many negative comments about this class. I thought it was a lot of fun. We got to have class discussions all the time and a lot of people talked in the class. The quizzes were super easy if you did the reading. There was a lot of reading, yeah, but some of it was interesting. And we got to write on whatever we wanted.

Dr.Carrithers is one of the many great professors at Fullerton College. He is really good at what he does, and l can tell he loves his job. You will do a lot of reading in this class, but it is a literature class. You will write 3 papers and you must reading because there will daily quizzes.

This was a really fun class. Joe does a great job of incorporating everything around us into the curriculum, from the books he chooses to the music videos he has us watch. You do have to pay attention in class and actually do the reading, but hey, it's an English class. You'll be glad you took it with him.

Carrithers is one of the better English teachers. He gives reading quizzes everyday but drops the lowest seven. There are 3 in class and 3 out of class essays with plenty of extra credit available. Take him if you want to become a better writer.

I'm going back to teachers I have had in the past. Dr. Carrithers stands out as one of two English teachers that I have liked most in my entire undergrad career. Though I enrolled in a summer session (Summer 2007) -- and transferred the credit -- his teaching style remains as a favorite of mine; his method of creating discussion is excellent. A+

First of all he will be like a total boring teacher the first day of school as he wants to eliminate people or make space for those willing to learn. This guy is amazing. You have to be pretty stupid to fail his class. Five test and Essays and that's it! No homework unless if its part of the essay. Tons of extra credit.It's your fault if you fail.

I really liked Carrithers, his class was very organized. Also a funny and sarcastic guy!class isn't mandatory but it's definitely recommended if you want an A because he tends to assign a lot of reading quizzes, which are very easy. He also drops your lowest essay score if you go to the writing center at east 3 times. Overall a very good professor.

Tough syllabus but is manageable. I struggled with essays-70% of final grade. 10% quizzes/20% in-class essay. Wish he put more weight in quizzes to balance spectrum of success(quiz is everyday). I committed 7+hrs/wk outside class to earn a B. I busted my ass off, even got traffic tickets to take the quiz. Learned much but grading killed me -Abee

Let's get things straight here. He give three essays and five quizzes. They are all okay. He gives you pleanty of time to do your work and most of it you do it in class. Grading is crystal clear and most people that are not Eng. majors take his class so he understands. If you study and do your work,you will pass. Pleanty of extra credit as well.

Awesome professor. Had a couple of my past English professors mention this is a difficult course, which it is, but Joe shines with simplifying and explaining. Helps you understand and interepret the material ,but the majority of the grade depends on out of class essays and in class essays. Joe is a great English professor. You'll need to do a lot of reading and follow his directions exactly, but if you do you should do very well in his courses. I had him for 2 classes, Eng 103 and Eng 222 in the same semester. He's not easy, but you learn a lot. If you like to think outside the box, this is the instructor you need to take.

I took Joe for Summer, he's funny so it makes the class material bareable. That being said, i busted my ass in this class, but i learned a lot, not easy but he's a great teacher.

Joe is organized and responsible. The quizzes aren't hard if you read what he asks you to, but the reading part can sometimes be devastating. He's somewhat funny and sarcastic, overall a decent teacher. 3 out-of-class and 3 in-class essays so the work loads aren't too bad. Really enjoyed his class and thought he was really esay. He doesn't grade very hard on in-class essays, which is great since in-class essays tend to be more stressful. There are quizzes every day so do the reading and you'll do great! He's super funny and sarcastic, so if you're not a fan of sarcasm then you should probably not take him.

This class was so enjoyable. I struggled because the writing was very free and we didnt have many guidelines which was very new to me. Mr C was extremely helpful and my writing improved with his help. He was always available for office hours and i enjoyed this class.

If u have an issue with gathering all your thoughts and putting it down on paper, he is your man. He may seem intimidating at 1st but don't let that stop you from asking him for help during his office hours because if your serious about passing the class he will help you out alot. He helped me realize what my major was going to be. Lectures were amazing. Group discussions basically made the class. I really enjoyed talking about literature and really diving into the British Literature.

overall the class was not difficult, was clear throughout the semester on what was expected . Professor Carrithers provides a clear curriculum, which allows for a class that is easy to follow. However, in order to succeed the work must be kept up with. His lectures are entertaining and allow for students to reach understandings on their own.

I had the opportunity to take two classes with Professor Carrithers a few years ago. He has truly been one of my favorite instructors. He cares for his students, and makes his classes fun. He is always clear about assignments, and is willing to help if you need it. He'll help you succeed and grow so much! Take him if you get the chance.

I have really enjoyed having him as my English professor in Fullerton College. I took three classes with him. Every time he has never disappointed me. Great professor, jokes around time to time. Straight forward with what you need to do in order to be successful in his class. There's a lot of readings, so make sure you read what is assigned. Reading quizzes happened very often. But overall just do well on the essays and you'll, he gives good feedback on how to make your paper better.

Professor Carrithers was a truly exceptional teacher. I worked hard but at times struggled between the various funerals and emotional weariness I experienced last semester. Total loved this class - 4 papers, discussion boards, reading, and quizzes. Quizzes are easy and based on the reading. Papers have a month to work on with other work. All articles are online but the book is helpful. Rented on Amazon for under $20 bucks. Paper grading is tough but he gives great feedback to improve your future papers.

To say Dr. Carrithers is a good professor would be the understatement of the year. Yeah, class can get a boring sometimes, but that's barely noticeable with how funny the man is. I sometimes wished we got more specific prompts, but grading wasn't hard and there weren't that many papers to write. Overall, great class!

Carrithers is great. I took his class years back. The reading was entertaining, lectures hilarious... never a bore. But I also know that I missed the Love of My Life when I was in this class. Dr. Joe is a good professor. He doesn't need to be called Dr. but has the education and knowledge to back up the title. He cares about his students and pretty much just asks that people participate in class and that his students turn in the 5 (if I remember correctly) papers throughout the semester.

If you do all the class work the essays will line up easily. You have a month for each essay so a lot of time if your doing 3-4 classes. Communicate with him like every teacher, ask questions and keep good relations. The class is focused on essays with easy A on hw and decent mid terms 26+ study weeks

He's so respectful to the students and will really make an effort to work with anyone who is trying. The activities in class are always relevant and instructions are clear. Even though he already has plenty of good reviews, I felt I needed to make another one because I genuinely think anyone who needs to take an English class should take him.

He was a very good professor. His grading is very reasonable. If you do all your homework, and turn in the 4 total essays and 2 in-class essays you will 100% pass the class. Professor was great, and the material he chose for readings were amazing. The only reason I would not take this class again is that I think there was a lot of work compared to other classes. Be prepared for a lot of readings and weekly homework.

Professor Carrithers makes a usually dull English class surprisingly engaging. While the workload can be manageable if you stay on top of it, his witty lectures and thoughtful feedback are what really make this course shine. For study prep, unstuck AI was a lifesaver alongside the textbook.

My first english class taken and I would take him again. He cares a lot about his students and is good at teaching his subject, he makes things super clear for you to understand and walks you through the assignments. Essays are pretty simple plus he gives you plenty of time to do them. He lets you turn in assignments late (including essays).

His class overall is very straight forward and easy providing advice and feedback making sure you're on track with the essay topics. He is a tough essay grader being worth 60 percent of your grade. He gives you an essay structure to help you write a good essay, just follow his rubrics and you will do just fine!

I took Dr. Carrithers for recent American Lit over the summer (online) and loved it! He provides great feedback, grades really quickly, even at the end of the semester, and has great information on Canvas about the authors we read. It's a fast-paced class, and you do a lot of reading, but it was completely worth it. I highly recommend taking him.

I took this class for intro to film studies. Dr. Carrithers is great at his craft and is clearly both passionate about literature and film. If you put in the effort, he will return it to you in full and give lots of feedback should you need it. The essays are tough but fair if you devote attention and time to it.

I am taking ENGL C1001 (previously ENG 103) online, and I have to say this is one of the best online courses I have ever taken! The textbook is provided for you online, the course is notably organized, and the assignments workload are very reasonable! Great professor, understanding with late work! I wish all of my online classes were like this.

He's a good man and a kind professor, but there are a lot of weekly assignments. It's really time-consuming, though he's very understanding and genuinely cares about his students.

This man is such a good guy, he genuinely is very understanding of what goes on in your outside life, and genuinely is funny. I had this class at 8:15 so unfortunately we were all half asleep, if I wasn't so tired I'd for sure let out a laugh. But he is very sarcastic and funny, he gives really good feedback, I'd for sure take this class again.
