He is a hard teacher. But he has office hours and is more than happy to help you. He curves so you don't have to get a good score on the test, you just have to do better than the class average.

very hard class and your need to study very hard for it straight from the book. if you go to his office hours for help, he is very helpful and always on time during office hours. study his study guides well because the questions on the test are straight from them. at least 6 tests per semester and sometimes extra credit.

Only 3 exams this semester, which is great, but you have to study a lot to do well. If you're not good at memorizing info, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! The professor is also a bit condescending at times, especially when he trashes the author of the Bio book (if he hates the book so much, why does he even use it??). A good thing is he curves the exams.

A lot of material is covered in this class so you need to study everyday and be on top of the material. His tests are not hard if you study. He is a very nice person and always willing to help not only during his office hours but also before or after class or also via email. He tells story in class as well as jokes. I enjoyed this class very much!

He is always available during office hours and helps you with any questions. The exams are not too bad but you do have to read the book and now the stuff.

Microbiology involves learning a LOT of material so if you are not willing to sit down and spend a good time studying you should not take this class. That's why many people get bad grades. The professor is always willing to answer questions from the students or to clarify questions via email. He curves EVERY quiz and exam!!!

Great prof once you get to understand him. He keeps the class interesting with his antics. Overall, the class is not difficult as long as you go to lecture and study what he goes over.

In the beginning, it felt like he was going too fast but being premed you have to expect that. If you can't handle it now, you won't be able to handle it in med school. He is so willing to help you out. He keeps the class interesting with his little temper tatrums. If you don't study you won't pass. If you are lazy don't take this class.

As long as you go to lectures and read the book you should be fine. Great at office hours, use them if you have to.

He is not as bad as most people give him credit for. He is always willing to help you outside of class. If you listen to his suggestions about studying for the class(i.e. Online Learning Center) the class is much easier. I only used the notes from the online learning center and i got an A- without to much studying.

This class is not a walk in the park, but if you study a little daily, read his outlines, and go to class you will pass. He made the class interesting but prepare to work for your grade!!!

Dr. Caruso isn't even close to as bad as many of these reviews make him out to be. He's actually quite helpful and entertaining (though sometimes unintentionally). As long as you're willing to put some time into reading the book and notes, you shouldn't have a problem. If you're still having difficulty, take advantage of his office hours.

Caruso is not bad! You have to attend class to know what he covered, and spend some time with the book, but he gives you all the information you need to do well on his tests. Its not an easy A, but he isnt a bad guy. You'll hear "I'm not making this stuff up" about a million times. But I would take another class with him in a heartbeat

Dr. Caruso is an ok professor, he is very oassionate about his work and he srtives to hepl everyone, i went to his office hours a few times and he was always helpful...microbio is a hard class , not everyone is gonna get an A and not everyone who wants to be a doctor will become a doctor..hes a great teacher and gave me a letter of recommendation

He's not that bad. If you need the help, simply talk to him during his office hours-he may offer some extra credit! Still, study hard!

He is a good teacher if you are whiling to be a good student and study the material. You can't be lazy in his class. You have to spend a lot of time on the material and you'll do fine. He really wants you to learn and he provides everything you need to know or tells you where to find it. Finally! A teacher at FAU who wants to teach.

Anyone that has left negative comments about Caruso is probably stupid like the rest of my class was. He is awesome, helpful, intelligent, and makes class as interesting as micro can be... I studied hard, got the A I deserved, unlike most of the lazy FAU students who complain if they are required to read a little. He gives TONS of extra credit!

Dr. Caruso, is very unique! Besides the oddness....you will actually learn in his class or you will fail by not trying. Study both powerpoints and read the book..over and over. I would say dedicate a week of studying before the test and you will receive a B.

Med.Bac. is different then Micro. In this class it's all about memorizing and knowing key words that go with certain bacteria. Study the case studies** and characteristics that make that bacteria unique from others. Overall you will learn or you will fail!!

I don't think he's that bad of a professor as people make him out to be on here. Kind of funny once you get used to his humor. He gives extra credit, and tests are curved, which REALLY helps (I have an A so far, so its possible). I think the key to do well in this class is to UNDERSTAND what you are reading, and you should be fine :)

Dr. Caruso is a very unique person to say the least.He gives extra credit and curves almost every test.He also gives iclicker quizes (some that count and some that are just for practice) but he curves those 2.He also gives us all the slides and a study guide for the exam.If you study the book the exams are fair.Make sure 2 do the online quizes!!

Please disregard the comment below. Turns out there was a mistake with my grade. He checked it and is fixing it. Regardless, he's still a hard teacher you have to really work at it to get a good grade in this class. I spoke a little too soon!

He is not that difficult. you just have to read the book and and memorize his lecture outlines. He gets his questions from them. His test are not that difficlut just make sure you study at least 3 days ahead. He's pretty funny and I do not understand many of the the negative comments he gets.

He is not as hard as some people say. Yes you have to study alot, but if you are not interested in the material then you should not be getting a biology degree. He curves quite a bit and you have five tests which is more than some. Go to class and study and you will do good. Iclicker questions are hard but just read and he curves iclicker too.

i thought he was awesome. very entertaining and if u participate in class and have an idea about whats going on he is great. i laugh all semester long. take it serious and ull be fine. hes eccentric, but very interesting!

He was by far the most crazy individual I've ever experienced in my life. I mean bums and stuff on buses are crazy but they are just ****s. Dr. Caruso or JP Caruso, Phd is a doctorate professor with degrees in Immunology and Parasitology. The only thing that will keep you coming back for more is his sexually explosive charisma. This was by fat the hardest class i have ever taken. Dr. Caruso isnt a bad professor it's just a crap load of material shoved into one class. He gives you mass amounts of xtra credit and curves EVERYTHING. Go to class b/c the iclickers really help. I studied about 30 hrs for every exam and study the way he tells you to, it works. Book is a MUST!!!

Hardass in class sweetheart in his office. Absolutely hilarious don't be easily offended. Must listen take notes and read what he tells you. Took him for MedBac too. Study his classes are not for bums.

He is an ok professor. Don't take this class if you don't intend to work!!! His test are hard and very detailed. He gives iClicker quizzes in class so make sure you're there. Make sure you read ahead, because not only is required, but he actually bases the quizzes off of the reading before he discusses the topic! Good Luck!

I took Caruso for microbiology and got a B-, now I'm taking med bac with him and I'm getting A's. He is a hard teacher but it's a matter of learning how to study the material,he is always willing to help you. I changed my way of study and thats why now I'm getting good grades. If you are really willing to learn you should take him. Good Professor!!

the best way to describe him: Friggin' Awesome. talks about wierd annecdotes in class and really loves what he teaches; also really hates slackers and stupid questions (especially if he's already answered them). Show up for class and do what he tells you to. Also, he really likes food microbiology. Exams can be hard, pray he makes lots of mistakes.

If you are the typical scrub that they are letting into FAU these days he will chew you up and spit you out in a heartbeat. If you work hard and have a little bit of talent you will realize he is a great teacher and will enjoy his one of a kind personality. Go to class, study book before class, study PowerPoint before exams. Enjoy.

He is not an easy professor at all, but he is passionate about what he teaches and willing to study. He has little patience for slackers. If you follow EXACTLY what he tells you do (read the textbook, attend class), you'll be in great shape. He's a very nice person if fulfill your duties as a student

He showed interest in teaching, even recorded lectures, his presentation was organized, the textbook was excellent and the tests were FAIR. I did not find the tests trick at all. If you study you get a good grade, if you don't, you probably won't. He does give a lot of extra credit opportunity, so I suggest you take all of them. I learned a lot!

Caruso is a wonderful prof! I went to his office for help at least once a week & he's always happy to help. Take notes on what he says during class, READ THE BOOK(muy importante), rewrite your notes, & you'll do fine. He's a nice prof but doesnt appreciate slackers. Gives extra credit & drops lowest test score (will even drop final).

Not a bad guy if you follow his rules and do as he says to pass his class. I didn't do as he suggested and got a B+ for it. Gives study guide before exam + his lecture notes. Use study guide from connect->read book-> watch animation ALL prior to class, study a week in advance and you will get an A.

Took Dr. Caruso for Med Bac. This is an amazing class. I loved it and made an A. Yes, it is hard but the subject material is hard. Yes, you will study your tail off. Caruso is fair in all aspects. He presents the material and you are expected to know it. Additional material will come from the book. Pre-read and become self sufficient.

A truly phenomenal teacher, if not the best Ive had in college. Took him for both Micro and Med Bac, but he truly excels in teaching med bac. I found his lectures fascinating and I always attended to actually learn, not just for clickers. His class is far from easy but gives plenty of "opportunity" to make up for a bad test grade. Very helpful too

On the first day of class, I thought that most of the reviews were right, in that he laughed at failure and stuff. BUT I have been in his class for a few weeks and people over exaggerated by a lot. He is a great teacher and the exams are not nearly as bad as people say they are. Just read the book, learn the material, and enjoy the class!

People are too easily offended by him. He really knows his things. Took him for Micro in the summer. Expect to do a lot of work and learn a lot. This class actually complemented my genetics and biochem class. This is not an "easy A" class so expect to put in some time. No kidding.

He isn't as bad as everyone says he is. Test are very passable,as long as you follow the study guide and actually do what he tells you to do(read ahead, study on connect, etc.) You must come to class, iclickers are given most days.

His class is by no means easy, however if you put the time into studying and go to every class, read ahead of time and do the online homework you should be fine. He is a litle arrogant but a decent guy every class he'd pick people to answer questions based on what color shirt they were wearing. To do well in the class you just got to read ahead.

He is very cynical but I find him hilarious. The class is not easy but an A is possible. He knows what he is talking about but sometimes forgets that his students dont and skips important detail. Overall I enjoyed his class.

Great professor IF you're a good student. Slackers, don't take this class. Read the chapter ahead to engage in class discussions. Read notes & case studies. You have to be able to diagnose, through patient history, their disease, the bacteria, and treatment, as if you are a doctor. He can be crazy but nice if you get to know him outside of class

Wonderful professor & really funny! He knows his stuff & is passionate about it. He pushes you to use critical thinking & problem solving to learn. The fact that ppl are so surprised that you actually have to go to class & study baffles me. You're paying for the class, the point is to go and learn. If you show interest & effort he'll reciprocate it

If you are trying to get into medical school, this is the class you should take. Its rumored to be the hardest bio class at FAU but don't let that discourage you! This was the best class I have ever taken and I feel like it will give me a huge edge when I apply to medical school. Its a LOT of work, but its worth it!

Microbiology was tough but NOTHING compared to Medical Bacteriology. This class was extremely difficult and only the cream of the crop students can perform well. This class really does tests your wits as well as your diligence. It is strongly recommended that people who make an A in microbiology take this class (people who slack stand NO CHANCE)

Please be warned that if you take this class lightly, you will undoubtedly fail all his exams. I made that mistake by not working hard enough and passing the class with a C-. Only 4 people out of the 40 students got an A or A- in this class. This class performance reflects the extreme difficulty so WORK HARD!!!

Honestly he is one of the nicest, funniest, smartest professors @ FAU! Show up to class and be prepared to learn. He expects you to read ahead. Why are you going to pay for a class if you're going to be talking and using your phone?! Please just follow his class rules. Doable class if you take good notes, read his notes and the textbook! :)

Best professor I ever had. Not Kidding! Rest in peace.
