If you're looking for easy work, enroll to Mr. Cavalli's class. One ressearch paper in one semester, there's some surprise assessment most of the time, but if you study hard that won't be a problem at all. If you're looking for celebrity looking Prof. He's the guy! He looks like Kurt Rusell! Ciao!
The class was very intersting. We pretty much always stayed on topic but he would sometimes bring in pictures and tell stories of his experiences in different countries, which made it WAY more entertaining (it was a 2 1/2 hour class). Time went by pretty fast considering how long it was.
Really awesome class. He is a very knowledgable guy, and if u ask him a question on anything whatsoever, he will take time to explain it. I learned a lot from him. Even though it is a history class, he often ties the material with the modern world, which makes ancient stuff more interesting. if u wanna learn a lot and have fun, take his class.
he's a really good teacher who takes the time to help you with any difficulties you might encounter. a truely inspirational guy.
Joe Cavalli is a pretty rad teacher whose life experiences bring an awesome element to the classes that he teaches. I recommend taking classes from him 100%!
Great teacher - my favorite so far. Good sense of humor. Very clear what is expected. Tangents often but for fun/entertaining stories. Loved the class!
I really enjoyed this teacher!!
I really enjoyed his class, he is a exceptional teacher! And always helps you if you need it, he has a good sense of humor and it was interesting to hear about all his past experiences in different countries. very cool guy!
Best teacher at Clark College. Has a passion for history and it gives his students the same passion. If you have a chance to take a class from him do so. You will learn, and enjoy doing so.
Mr. C is the coolest teacher you'll ever have. He has a passion for history, and his travels make him a very credible historian. His understanding of the world, in a "common sense" kinda way, makes class funny and fun. He is definitely not your typical boring teacher.
Fantastic teacher! Will always help when it's needed in the greatest of detail. An overall good teacher and highly recommended for History credits. classes consist of 2 essays and 2-3 exams. Essays are leanient but topics are interesting and extensive. Exams are all about memorization, long and crueling, however hard to fail
Pretty much all lecture, his storys are interesting, and if u pay attention u will pass. Good teacher and cool guy
VERY educated! Will help you with anything you need, just ask. Fair grader and tried to make things interesting, even if they are not. A lot of lecture and chapter readings every night but the tests are easy if you listen and do the reading. Best teacher I have had and would recommend him to everyone.
Everything everyone else said times 10!!!!! He is awesome. Makes topic interesting because HE loves history sooo much. And yes, he is very hot.
He is amazing. He has knowledge about everything it seems like, not to mention a killer bod :). I would retake the class if I could get my parents to pay for it.
he's rather hot.. very good teacher does make topic interesting :)
I used to hate history before I took his class. I am going to take his classes for my electives. Super interesting, and by far my favorite class since I've entered college.
Great Teacher! really enjoyed this class! Joe made this class extremely interesting and was very helpful when it came to term paper! test were on reading material and atlas so if you read the assignments they were pretty easy. Totally recomend this class to anyone if your not interested in history you will be! If you are this class is bonus!
Great guy, looks like a model straight out of a 1950's style ad. Really knows his history! When I say he knows it, he knows EVERYTHING. Really nice and helpful as well. Take this class!
he is VERY nice! First three to four classes attendance is mandatory but after that it is not (just show up to get your study guide). He assigns reading and only has the stuff that we read on the tests. he calls all of his tests Finals but truth is, they are only chapter tests. i HIGHLY suggest taking him! Hes also very good looking and single ;)
Mr. Cavalli is an awesome teacher!! Do show up daily because he includes a lot of info in lecture and notes that are NOT in the book!! His lectures are very interesting, he really knows what he's talking about and wants you to wake up and be excited about history too. And he is by far the most gorgeous teacher at Clark ;-)
His lectures are informative and his using real life stories keeps thing interesting. He is fairly easy and fun.
Best teacher. I'm a history major so his class was extremely helpful. He didn't take crap and was a very serious guy, but he was still fun. He's had a lot of good experience from all his traveling in Europe, ect. It was fun to hear his stories and how they related to the lessons. I really want to take another class with him in the future.
Did not follow the syllabus. Did not handle disruptive students. The tests were a big mess and confusion. I spent the whole term confused in his class and even asked for clarification but received none.
Professor Cavalli is awesome! Per previous students, his study guides make his course work extremely easy. Anyone who complains about this course either, A- did not attend class, or B- did not read the material. He is very fair and will take the time to elaborate his personal opinion on the motives of the countries/rules he teaches about.
Cavalli is a great teacher! He has experience teaching in a Muslim country and has traveled extensively. This brings a uniquely qualified perspective to teach the material. Just show up,read the textbook and you'll be fine. He only requires one paper at the end of the quarter on any subject in History. It's an easy A if you put forth the effort!
I came into the class with high expectations. I had hoped that my experience with Cavalli would be a good one. Although I knew the information, it wasn't reflected in the tests that I took. I found the tests and class expectation confusing. I attempted to get clarification, but never got it.
Jospeh is a great teacher as long as you pay attention, he has once weekly quizzes over the current chapter that are easy. His Midterms and Finals are dificult without studying. There is once paper due at the end of the term that needs to have lots of work put into it. To succeed you need to listen to him as well as follow the powerpoints and book.
You can't get anymore straightforward than with Cavalli's classes. Lecture, book material, and weekly 5-6 question quiz. There is no homework, and everything you need to know he covers extensively in class, but is also in the text. The "hardest" parts: midterm, a 4-page paper, and final. Overall, a very good experience for me.
Great teacher, really knows how to make the class interesting by integrating his own experiences.
Joe was a very good teacher. He has travelled the world taught in other countries and has a true passion for history. He does his best to make it interesting, bringing in pictures and different items he has from all over. To pass the class all you need to do is read the book and study your notes. Hes also not bad to look at if you do get bored.
Professor Cavalli has taught and traveled all over the world & really makes global history come alive..he connects everything with current events. Fairly straightforward class- attend the lecture, do the reading, midterm & final + paper on a topic of your choosing. No small group discussions or big projects.
He was a great teacher and kept the lectures entertaining. The lectures are way to long, and so much information is crammed in all at once. He has assessments weekly, he doesn't give you a study guide for the midterms and exams. The textbook is long & boring, you have to read a chapter a week. Exams are pretty easy. good teacher, hard material.
Missed a few classes and easily managed to maintain a good grde. Always encouraging students to ask questions. Great character and bomb teacher.
Cool guy.. No study guides. The tests are a joke. You better LOVE reading your text book. Also don't listen to him when he says "this will be on the final" almost nothing that he said was going to be on there is. He doesn't write the final until after he tells you what to study. Thus he forgets what he tells you and you study the wrong thing.
WORST CLASS OF MY LIFE! He is SO boring! I couldn't stand it. It's also VERY hard. The tests are ridiculous. DO NOT TAKE IT.
A lot of essay's and writing for class!!!! He is a bit boring in class...
I came into this class with good expectations but I was mistaken. He gets upset when students don't know questions that he asks even if they are very specific. He isn't helpful when you ask for advice. You will need to read your book. The only things in the gradebook are a mid-terms, final, quizzes and one paper. Don't expect to get a good grade.
Cavalli was a horrible teacher. He did not tell us what to study for before tests and was slightly rude. I will admit he was pretty funny at times though. Had me laughing but I reccomend you dont take his class.
I would recommend taking this class if you are interested in History. If not, you will fall asleep and stare at the clock the whole time (like me). Sitting through his class is painful and the criteria itself is difficult. Don't expect to get a good grade.
Boring. I was so excited about history prior to taking his class.
I loved history until I took this class. It was boring and I barely used the book I got. Due to weather I couldn't make it to class one day, so I flunked one of the quizzes and also missed one. Always go to class or you will not be successful. I suggest you pick a different teacher.
He's a tough grader but if you participate he'll respect you more therefore be a little easier on you. If you mess around he will call you out on it.
One of my favorite Professors ever. Sparked an interest in history that I did not have before. If you are interested in learning more about history, take this class. Stories and anecdotes galore.
Cavalli is a good teacher, but could be a bit confusing at times. He is hilarious and likes to put his students on the spot by saying "give me your best college guess". He is a tough grader, you got to pray you do well on the assessments. Good luck if you get him.
Lectures every class period and if you skip then you will miss out on a lot of information. Does weekly quizzes and if you don't study then you will get a bad grade. Lectures in a monotonous tone and I have rarely seen him smile.
You have one 10 point assessment per week, one paper that is considered as part of your final at the end of the quarter, and his lectures last the entire class. Cavalli is a very funny teacher who tries his best to make history come alive. He also enjoys getting the class involved in debates over current world issues. Great teacher!
In his own words, he doesn't believe in informing students specifically of what they should know. Requires memorization of an irrelevent, agonizing, unimaginably time consuming study guide, and then only draw 5 questions from it all for his small weekly quizzes. Does not prepare students. Long, boring, lectures. Class causes suicide contemplation.
This was the best teacher I've EVER had, the grading and study guide was very easy to follow, and he honestly inspired me to learn more about history. (jk)
one thesis paper at end of quarter 15% of final grade. final is 40% of final grade. if you do everithing perfect and do bad at those two, you're screwed, or if you slack off the whole quarter and do perfect at those two somehow, you will be fine.
Very passionate. He explains everything really well and makes everyone participate, we all got engaged in the subject, awesome teacher!!!
You have 3 assignments due on Friday, so make sure you come to class on Fridays. There is a thesis essay that he gives you the whole quarter to work on. He lectures straight out of the book so it gets kind of boring. If you are super passionate about ancient history you will pass.
On top of the assignment, quiz, and discussion every week, he gives students a 6-8 page essay, a final, and a midterm. On the weeks that those are due, he makes all the normal stuff do as well. He does not give study guides, and is not clear on what he wants in the Thesis Essay.I do not recommend this teacher.
This teacher has been awful to deal with all quarter. Lots of homework, final, midterm, and an essay, all on top of the weekly assignments. I do not recommend this teacher.
Tough grader who doesn't believe in handing out top scores. Weekly discussion post, document analysis essay, and quiz. Research historical thesis essay (6-8 pages), midterm and final exam make up 65% of your grade. Midterm exam was relatively easy, final exam was difficult with an average score of 66%. Lectures are engaging, attendance counts.
Mr. Cavalli is a pretty cool teacher. He's funny and he cares a lot about his teachings. If you take the hybrid class for World Studies you don't have to come to class everyday because most of the things are online (weekly: quizzes, discussions, document analyses) . Make sure you study for the midterm and final. There is also a 6-8 page essay.
I will more than likely never take his class again. I've had Joseph for 3 quarters now, and I used to look forward to class. This past quarter my best friend passed away untimely, I lost my job, my $80 text book was lost in transit, & I had trouble with Josephs new quizzes website for weeks. I never used excuses, but he gave me the hardest time.
Professor Cavalli is a really good teacher. He knows what he is teaching and his criteria is easy to understand. He is funny at times. Attendance isn't mandatory but there are discussions on Fridays and he takes attendance to give credit. There is one essay that you do during the quarter. Each Friday there is a discussion. Really liked the class.
he basically just lectures from the book so if you don't want to show up, just read the book and you'll be fine. fridays are the only days he takes attendance because we do class discussions so make sure to show up. the only homework we have is 2 assignment every week and they're both due sunday night. has a good sense of humor tho
honestly the worst class. DO NOT TAKE. he basically read from powerpoints that were literally copied out of the book and was horrible at explaining. the only time attendance was important was on Fridays when we had class discussions. end of the quarter looks like a huge final & an 8-page essay where you interview someone. extra credit issa no
Cavalli is a great professor. Although the lectures are straight out of the book, they are interesting. He can be pretty funny at times. There are class discussions every Friday. Quiz and Document Analysis due every Sunday. The final paper is pretty difficult if you do it too last minute, so make sure you don't procrastinate.
The work load can be a bit overwhelming between the weekly doc analysis, discussion posts, chapter and map quizzes. Just keep up. The mid-term and final were crazy long and there was a historical thesis due right before the final exam, but you have all term to work on it. He provides feedback and help when requested, which I found very useful.
This class was VERY lecture heavy, and lectures were straight out of the textbook. It's really important to read the book, and read it before his lecture on the chapter. Also, if you are afraid of answering questions in front of the class, this is not the class for you. Overall, Cavalli is a nice guy and if you do the work you should pass.
Only really had one problem with this class. Which was the final project. The final is an oral history project, and the main issue I had was that you had to interview someone who lived durring a big historical moment, but with the examples he provided and instructions he gave shows that he has been using the same ones for YEARS.
This online class was super easy, mostly just an Inquizitive quiz every week, which you can google and find on quizlet, plus a couple short discussions. Beware of: interview essay due at the end of the course- 7 pages long, turned in with a 30-minute recording of an interview you did of someone. It's unrelated to coursework, so do it ahead of time.
Joseph is a decent teacher. He assigns a good amount of homework, but it is manageable. But he does not communicate well, and seems a little unorganized. Also, he is not very accessible, as he does not respond to emails very fast. But other than that he is a good professor.
Great professor! I would definitely take him again.
He's not the worst teacher, but you should pay attention and read the textbook. His lectures can be a little boring, but you can tell he is very passionate about history. His feedback is often unclear and are very short: I wrote 3 short essays for my midterm and his comments were "good" and "OK"...
Gives lectures everyday taken straight from the textbook. If you didnt come to class and you just read the book you would be fine, except Fridays. On most Fridays there is a discussion and he grades based on if you are there or not. Dont have to say anything during discussion to get 100% though. Calls on people randomly, be prepared to answer.
Professor Cavalli was very lecture heavy; they were very confusing and he expected you to come to class already having read the entire 50-page chapter over the weekend. Every quiz is online on InQuizitive, midterm included. The final was the only test in class and it was 54 multiple choice, map, and an essay question.
Gave little or none feed back unless asked.
Cavalli doesn't give any feedback about anything. He takes forever to grade things. Conflicting due dates between syllabus and Canvas. Due dates randomly change. Never responds to emails. Assignments are sometimes confusing, can't get clarification because he won't respond to emails. Quizzes are usually easy, you can skim the book.
He is one of my favorites, his lectures and discussions are always a blast. His reading kicked me in the butt, however he is totally willing to work with you. I will be trying to take his other classes for sure. One of my favorite professors I have had.
I took his HIST&146 class and I would say, unless you like history, it was hard to stay awake. His voice is very monotone and he thinks you have read the whole book already. I would recommend coming to class having skimmed the textbook chapter you are studying that week and take notes in class cause otherwise you will be lost.
Canvas is organized very nicely. You have all the instructions you need for the entire quarter on day 1. It is the same 3 assignments with different topics, every 1 or 2 weeks. Theyre easy. Got a few points off the first few times, but he commented what I did wrong and then got 100 on everything (Im an average student)Replies right away to emails.
Worst thing about this class were the inquisitive online quizzes due every week, but after a couple you figure it out. Every class is a lecture & you should at least skim the book. Good at lecturing, includes good examples and funny quotes. Easy to reach outside of class, not a very tough grader, very willing to help you. Class discussions are fun.
I'm going crazy! This professor keeps changing assignment criterias the day of, and I end up having to redo them! He also obviously isn't familiar with Canvas, because everything's a mess. I try to get my work done ahead of time, but end up having to start over anyways. DO NOT TAKE. Too much confusion and self-doubt
I'm taking Cavalli's online class and he's my favorite teacher. His canvas is well-organized and his class is fairly easy. He has weekly discussions where you read a short article and respond to it. Inquisitive is also weekly. Just pay attention to due dates. The only difficulty was the midterm essays. You have 2 hours to write 3 300 word essays.
I never liked history until Cavalli. His lectures can feel monotonous, but he's a really funny prof and I came to genuinely enjoy his class. He doesn't give much feedback and some of the work is difficult to get an A on. You technically don't have to go to class everyday (except Fridays) but you probably won't get a good grade if you skip a lot.
(Taken online) Prof. Cavalli is a solid choice. There was structure, but confusion about due-dates. Fair-grader. The workload was moderate, but sometimes discussions were tedious. He might come across as rigid, but he's pretty funny/relaxed. Posted weekly video announcements. But he never clarified anything about the thesis essay. Textbook reliant.
In my experience this class was hard at first, reading from a textbook is your main teacher for this course. But after a couple weeks you will likely revert to quizlet to find answers for weekly tests. This class is super easy if you use quizlet for everything. Reading the textbook will be a headache as you won't know what to memorize/skim.
It's more InQuizatives and the answers are easily found if you read the chapter in the textbook. There's discussions about websites and they're simple, but be sure to reply to your classmates because it is a large portion of the grade (Which is why I have a B, I forgot to a lot) But he posts video announcements that are easy to follow and short.
This teacher was one of the best that I've had so far. He is very nice and is super helpful. He's a fair grader, and as long as you stay on time with the inquisitive and weekly discussions, you'll be fine. He also has 2 document analyses and a thesis essay (which he gives you an exact prompt on how to do them) and a final exam (25% of grade).
I took Professor Cavalli's US History II class, and it was okay. He sent out a few e-mails and video announcements on Canvas. Other than that, I didn't hear from him much. If you keep up with the reading, you'll do okay. He is very adamant about citations and an unbiased attitude, which is important to note for some assignments. Not a bad choice.
He is a good professor there are weekly inquizitives but all the answers are found on quizlet and there is always a weekly discussion that can be interesting and really not that hard the only difficult part is the midterms and finals but not too bad. I got away with not buying the textbook but you probably should to access the inquizitives
This professor is ranking my top 5 worst. The assignments are super easy, but in the first week of class he hid 3 assignments and wouldn't let me make up any of the credit. His response to every single email I have sent is "Your lowest quiz score will be dropped" and nothing else. Super unhelpful, doesn't care about students' success. Not great.
I had the flu and was advised to stay away from screens to avoid horrible migraines. I let this professor know and told him I couldn't complete an assigned quiz. He just told me my lowest quiz score would be dropped, and wouldn't let me make it up. Super annoying and unhelpful. Wish he cared. Super unhelpful guy whenever I messaged about anything.
Very approachable guy who doesn't know he makes bad dad jokes, quite hilarious. The class itself is very straight forward, yes you have to read but if you understand that learning takes time, you will be totally fine. He's the type of teacher that wants you to speak up even if it's wrong so he can teach you and not just talk to a wall.
Seems nice enough, but don't expect to learn much unless you teach yourself. Even for an online course, this guy did the bare minimum. Little to no feedback on all assignments, and often marks you down points without giving any detail of what was wrong with your work. Does nothing to prepare you for final exam (better remember everything you read!)
Every week there's a discussion and two of the textbook quiz thing, there are also four document analyses. Super easy because you don't really have to read anything to get the answers right. The rubric for the document analysis is unclear so I never knew if I was right or wrong. Doesn't communicate but easy A.
This class is very easy. Don't expect to receive communication from Professor Cavalli, however, if you complete the tests on time you shouldn't worry about a grade.
Good guy
Expect to get no attention from the teacher unless you are of female gender. He really likes the young girls.
History 146 is relatively easy, many websites like quizlet help with some assignments. Be prepared to teach this class to yourself. I chose this class knowing it was fully online, but I expected at least some guidance. He gives poor feedback, so do every writing assignment really thoroughly just so you avoid getting too many points docked.
pretty good guy. Sometimes he got carried away with talking about off topic things but most of the time they were at least interesting.
You can tell that professor Cavalli was not really interested in the whole teaching aspect of online learning. He did not give very good feedback on assignments. He does also send a lot of videos and they're hard for me to watch him talk. Other than that the course was easy to pass but I and others were unprepared for the final.
Cavalli has been the best professor ive ever had. The dude knows everything, and the tests answers are discussed in the lectures.
Professor Cavalli is awesome! Best teacher, my fun class!! Discussions: two responses each week + minimum word Instructions: ALL IN SYLLABUS Pretty chill grading, encouraging Loves to do video lecture announcements IMPORTANT Lenient in discussions, gives 100 if close Turn things ON TIME (than LATE -50%) + cite he is a stickler for bibliography
Put announcement videos, study packet for mid-terms and final out late. Document analyses: wants you to include things that weren't on the instructions. Tough grader, late replies, have to do thesis essay on own, instructions aren't clear. Questions on final not related to history, not on study guide. Political discussions, not historical.
I'm sure Cavalli is a good history professor in person, but do not take an online class from him. His Canvas modules were extremely disorganized and there were many conflicting due dates. I asked for a rubric and he sent me a blank email. There is a lot of reading, and the textbooks ARE REQUIRED. Many of the discussions are politically charged.
This class was beyond boring and in general not interesting at all, 2 different text books that were written in the 90s so outdated information by alot. The class wasnt difficult just too many assignments for an online class.
Easy class, but expect to teach yourself. Cavalli's feedback is lacking, so be thorough on assignments. Unstuck study and other study tools helped me prep for the final.
Cavalli seems to review poorly in his online classes, but I found him excellent in person. Lectures are good but full of side-tangents, so you may need to read the textbook. He was an easy grader for essays, and his final was fair enough if you studied. Hw was easy and you must show up every discussion day, but full credit isn't hard to get.
This professor doesn't know how to use Canvas very well and I'm not sure how he is in person but in an online class he just posts a bunch of time consuming busy work and doesn't actually teach himself.
Cavalli is extremely opinionated. Will tell students they're wrong about things even if it is easily googleable. Will tease students in front of class. Refused my accommodations because he didn't understand them, then was pushed by the disability services to utilize them, and refused anyways. Hard grader with no useful feedback.
I had him in person and it was a different experience than some of the online class reviews I've seen. He had interesting lectures, and was easy to talk to outside of class if you needed help on anything. The final really wasn't that hard and it was fair if you paid attention and read through it thoroughly.
Had weekly discussions (easy), quizzes (easy), four document analyses (easy), a thesis essay,a mid-term &a final. He provides zero expectations of what he wants on essays qs yet grades harshly. I missed getting an A by 1 pt & have no idea why. I put my answers in AI after completing the course & it said I answered the question at college level.
