He is HANDS DOWN the funniest/most inspirational professor/teacher I've ever had. Every single lecture is full of funny real-world examples of concepts that make 300+ students laugh. Everything is very applicable to your own daily life, and this class allows you to understand yourself and your life on a deeper level that VERY few classes do.
I really enjoyed having professor Cesario as a teacher. He made the material very easy to understand and was clear. His lectures were generally pretty easy to stay engaged in and he employed many real life examples. In addition, on many occasions he even engaged the class in different optional participation experiments to provide the class withdata
I loved this class! If you show up to lectures and take notes you should be able to pass easily. He is super funny, he cares about his students, and his lectures are easy to understand. Plus he gives extra credit and drops your lowest exam! He really relates content to the students. One of his GA's made a big google doc before exams that helped too
Super cool guy and gives interesting and funny lectures. Great professor!
Cant say enough about Prof Cesario. Great guy. Lectures are usually entertaining and fly by. Exam questions are pulled right from the lectures, and assigned readings. Highly Recommend
Really gets you involved and interested!
One of the best professors I've ever had.
Great class and subject matter, super fascinating and great for learning about the world. Teaches it well and genuinely cares about material. All lecture, lots of time to ask questions, no mandatory attendance, and does offer some extra credit. Grades based on open note online quizzes and a final. Reading not really necessary. Not too difficult.
Amazing lectures, very funny professor. Gives many extra credit opportunities, content is fun to learn about.
I'm a psych major, so going in I knew this class was going to be important to me. Cesario made lectures interesting and easy to understand, which made coming to his class even better. Show up to lecture and you're set. He also gives out extra credit for those who attend lecture on random days.
All you are graded on is weekly quizzes and a final. I'm a bad test taker so this makes it hard to be successful.
The only grades in this class are weekly quizzes and a final exam. Professor Cesario is a great lecturer and makes the concepts extremely clear. He keeps you engaged as well. I skipped a lot of class and still four pointed. As long as you study past quiz questions for the final exam, you'll be fine. It was a fine class, Cesario is a great prof.
It has been 4 years since I took this class, but it's still the first that comes to mind as my favorite. Cesario is a fantastic lecturer and the class is so engaging and entertaining. I wish I could take it again, no joke.
Cesario is one of the best professors I've ever had. He taught the highly politicized subject of social inequality in the most pragmatic way I could have imagined. Doesn't ask hard questions on the weekly quizzes, just make sure to pay attention in lecture. He definitely knows what he's talking about, and you'll get a lot out of his class.
I would highly recommend taking your ISS with Cesario, he gives great lectures and makes sure you learn a lot while having a light work load. I wish I could have him again for another class, Easy A and makes lectures interesting. Overall great prof
My favorite proffessor ever!! He is so nice and tries to get to know the students that show up and participate regularly. All lectures are posted online so you don't really have to go to class but I found it to be helpful because he'll often explain conepts more clearly and answers any questions you have. 10/10 would recommend this class!
Awesome guy. Straightforward class. He runs through all of his slides and gives explanations. There are weekly online quizzes and a final, which is composed of the questions from the quizzes. He sounds like Kermit the frog which made the lectures so much more entertaining. The only downside of Joe is that he says "ok" after every single sentence.
He is literally so disorganized. This class was a joke. The lecture slides are not detailed, so if you skip class, you will do awful on the exams. The TAs for this semester are also so god awful. We had an assignment due in February... Grades are still not all out yet. This class is a joke. Exam scores take up to 3/4 weeks to know how you did.
This class could have been so great if it was not for Dr. Cesario being SO disorganized. We did not get our 2nd exam grades back until after we took the 3rd exam which was so frustrating. He also never responded to emails!! The TA's were useless and not helpful whatsoever.
Professor Cesario is one of the best professors I've had. He is clear with what he expects, there are papers due but they couldn't be easier to write. The only downfall of this class is it was SUPER disorganized. Takes WEEKS to get exams and papers back, you're taking the next unit exam without having your grade from the last one. Overall easy A
It's making me mad that some of these people in the comments don't realize that professors are humans too. The way he taught material was phenomenal. He actually made sure you learned it. For those complaining that you had to show up to class to learn, what did you expect? I have learned some stuff that I apply to my every day life! Great class
Cesario is a super caring/nice guy. Online quiz every weekend of just 10 questions. Plus a final thats made of previous quiz questions. Thats literally all you're graded on, plus Extra credit if you want it. super easy A. he repeats himself a ton to get his point across
Genuinely one of the best professors I have ever had. 10/10
this course is genuinely depressing and makes you truly appreciate the wonderfully meaningless gift of human existence. thanks. while Prof. Cesario is very coherent and delivers the course material well, it doesn't compensate for the bleak nature of the course material which ultimately leaves one more depressed than when they first arrived.
Easiest class I've taken. Lectures are kind of long, but it is extremely easy to do well in this class. There are 3 writing assignments and 5 exams (one is optional) and nothing is weighted. The writing assignments are over anything you have learned in class and only are a page long. Also a very interesting class if you need an elective.
Easily the best prof at MSU. Repeats himself to get the point across, but makes sure you learn something. However, you do have to go to class and pay attention to do well/
Honestly I just didn't love his lectures. He's okay at getting his point across, but he's a bit of an over-explainer which makes him hard to listen to. The lectures in general aren't great for people with learning disabilities. The material is fine. He wasn't terrible, I just didn't enjoy his class.
If you are taking PSY 235 with him, I would recommend him. However, I would not recommend taking 342 with him unless you want to sit through hours and hours of curated data he finds to back up his points. He essentially lectures you, as a white man, as to how no discrimination exists and how it is minorities own fault for any problem that exists.
Hard class to teach, I can imagine. Don't go into this class closed minded, be open for discussion. Material can be hard to hear and understand but you have to separate opinion from statistics for tests. He is open for in class debates and very open to questions. Often times rambles on about one topic. Great class to be in, really eye opening
Class itself is easy but seems as if prof goes out of his way to make it harder to succeed Ex: having 5-10 points of attendance credit on days it's hard for students to make it. Showed studies that were only done with white men instead of looking for better studies + would nitpick studies to make them support his idea when that's not what was meant
I love love love Prof. Cesario, he's funny and is great at teaching. Exams are super easy on one condition: attend the class, the slides are not enough. It really is an easy class, and he makes it fun by doing experiments on us and showing the class's data match the data of the experiments and theories he teaches.
My favorite professor from this semester! Lectures are not mandatory, but you should treat them like they are. He gives extra credit on random days for attendance points, drops your lowest exam grade, is super funny, and clearly loves his job and his students. If I could rate him above a 5, I would.
As a non-psych major this was my easiest class by far. Take good notes, come to class and you'll get lots of EC. Engaging material presented in an understandable way if you follow his train of thought, but can be hard if you zone out. Only complaint is that the TAs are not very transparent about their grading on the application assignments.
You can tell he cares a lot about teaching and some of his lectures were pretty entertaining. As long as you show up to class, actively listen, and do the study guide it is a pretty easy A
It's so hard to stay engaged when he just rambles on about the same topic and uses absurd examples to back up his points. Half of his lectures make no sense and you're sitting for 2 hours listening to him ramble. You're graded only on paper exams, and he expects you to memorize every paper and their data for the exam. Just don't take it.
He's Awesome
I've never had such a horrible class in my 4 years at MSU. He changed the way he taught the class, made it way more challenging. He seems to want his class to be hard. Exams ONLY focus on the papers assigned. Extremely hard for a 300 level class, and lectures are very dry and heavy. Only grades by exams, and minimal extra credit.
He repeats things often in lectures and often times the lectures can be boring. This classes only grades are four exams and they are long exams which are extremely detailed. He offers a study guide but does not give it until right before the exam and it is little to no help. Did not find out about exams until a week or two before the exam.
He is by far the worst professor I have had in my 4 yrs at MSU. He gets side tracked every class which makes him miss material in the lecture slides. The slides are repetitive. Exams are the main grades aside from occasional attendance extra credit. Most of the exam questions are from long readings. If you can avoid having class with him at all.
Honestly a great prof. Just be prepared to put in actual effort when he asks you to read. Other than the exams, there's no other grades/assignments so as long as you attend class and read required reading, you will do pretty well on the exam. A lot of people complain but that's likely due to them not going to lecture enough
I never liked this guy from the beginning He gives people any grade that he wants not the grade you really deserve I hate those types of professors there are a lot of them and he is one of them We just did an exam and I know for sure I got more answers right than the grade he put in he has no problem with making you fail No assignments just 4 exams
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. it's set up for you to fail. I have attended every lecture, done every reading, and studied extensively before every exam and I still can't do well on them. You are graded only on 4 exams and each questioned is worded like a trick question. Exams are in person on scantrons and he won't tell you what you got wrong on them.
Attendance is not mandatory, but he does surprise attendance days where you get one point of extra credit if you're there. His exams are 50-80 questions (there are three of them), and then there is a 100-question, cumulative final exam. That's it. There are a lot of readings that you need to memorize. It's possible to do good, but I don't recommend
I wish I could say something positive about this course, but I cannot. Professor Cesario is not a welcoming professor and the tests are not indicative of students learnings. Why any professor makes a class entirely exams is beyond me, but Cesario decided to determine students grades entirely off of exams. Please avoid AT ALL COSTS!
DO NOT TAKE. He rambles on about ridiculous caveats for half of the lecture, excluding information that may actually be useful. You get 4 grades in the book, and they're all exams. No drops, homework, or attendance grades. You better read those 40 page pdf case studies 100 times each if you want to even pass the class. Overcomplicated for no reason
Professor Cesario is honestly a great professor if you take the class seriously. Lectures aren't mandatory but you will want to go anyways. There's over a letter grade's worth of extra credit if you put all the work in. If you go to the lectures and read the assigned readings the exams should be easy, even though they're really question heavy.
Please avoid him. Listen to the negative ratings, they are right.
He was funny and seems like a nice guy in general. I didn't attend all of the lectures, which could be why I struggled so much in this class. I wouldn't recommend this course if you aren't prepared to attend every lecture and read assigned readings multiple times. The only assignments are exams, and a little bit of extra credit
Take my advice, live a better life and avoid his class man. There's no assignments just 4 exams. Nobody likes this guy, his class is hard having nothing else to boost the grade. 2 Extra credit points a week don't count.
I just really hope it was a better professor that's NOT HIM For this class.
A lot of these reviews are negative but the content was very interesting and it's clear he cares abt his students. EC attendance is worth the same amount as a test question along w additional ec can bump your grade up a whole letter. Just pay attention in the lectures and do the readings. The exams are easy and self explanatory if you do that.
Bad person He's not good
His format is based on test scores, supplemented by extra credit which you can receive by coming to lectures. Because the course is lecture heavy if you don't come and engage you won't understand material. He encourages people to come to class and is able to meet outside of lecture time. Material is not solely his own work, but recent research.
He is lecture heavy, come to lecture and take notes. Not mandatory attendance, but you get extra credit. He uses current and relevant research to guide his lectures, instead of a textbook. The only grades are exams, even if you get 80's on all the exams, you can still 4.0 with the extra credit. I advise going to office hours it helps
I dropped his class on the first day. I'm a deans list student and this guy wasn't worth the drop in my grade. BEWARE.
As long as you go to class (he takes attendance some days) and pay attention you will do well on the exams and 3 hw assignments.
Prof Cesario Z
I genuinely don't know why people are dissing him. He is amazing! Love him and his class. No regrets for PSY 235 besides the fact it is making me question my individuality and existence as a human, but that is the class topic's fault lol. Study, and you will be fine. He is a lovely guy, and the class isn't difficult, but getting an A, honestly, is.
He is amazing!!! should for sure take his class. Best teacher ever
His class covered various aspects of social psychology and he always found a way to keep the class engaged and laughing constantly. His lectures were never boring and he offers extra credit points for showing up to class here and there although attendence isn't mandatory. Exams aren't too hard but study well.
Cesario is def my favorite professor thus far. You get extra credit on days he takes attendance, as well as extra credit for doing a 5 question optional quiz every week. There's 4 exams which are moderately difficult, helps if you go to his lectures. Sometimes boring, but he tries to keep you entertained.
I have very mixed feelings, because I really liked listening to his lectures, and I like him as a person. That said, it was incredibly frustrating that the tests (which were open-note) felt like they were worded in a way that was meant to trip you up. Not a bad class to fill some credit hours, but be warned that getting a 4.0 is an uphill battle.
3 or 4 exams (one dropped), 3 assignments, and extra credit on random attendance days. Pretty easy he just lectures the whole time while everyone takes notes. He's very interested in his job and goes over a ton of studies. You do have to read some articles before class sometimes but it's pretty easy. Exams aren't too hard either
This is the first time I've actually learned from a professor! I took the honors version of social psychology (in 2024), so it's a bit different from the regular one. The professor doesn't rely on slides; he wants us to take notes instead of just reading them, which is why I feel like I've learned so much! He's very charismatic and helpful. :)
Genuinely one of the worst classes I have ever taken. This professor is a chronic academic who views the world in data and statistics while ignoring the context. Assigned scientific papers each week that appear on the exams and are not discusses in class.
This was my favorite psych class ever! Attendance isn't necessary, but you won't do well with the content if you don't go to class. He also gives a bunch of extra credit for just showing up to class. He is so funny, you won't regret taking this class. 5 exams, you drop your lowest grade (including the final).
My GOAT! Dr. Cesario is one of my favorite professors I've ever had. Dude is hilarious and insanely knowledgable on the subject, bringing in a mixture of his own views and others. If you pay attention to the lectures (hard not to pay attention) and take notes, you will do very well. Can't wait to take another class with him.
Left this class confused by the other ratings. I will say there's a LOT of reading but this is also a 300 level PSY class so I'm confused on how that's surprising. Professor Cesario is very smart, and gives great lectures that always make me think. If you attend class and do the readings you really wont have any trouble with this class. Lots of EC.
If it wasn't for the extra credit, I legit would've failed. This class is way harder than it needs to be. The amount of readings is insane, like he thinks we don't have any other classes. Also, he tells us not to rely on the slides for notes, but then just lectures straight off the slides anyway? Super frustrating. If you can, I'd avoid this class.
His class is difficult because his tests are worded in a way that is difficult to understand and he requires you to read graduate level papers, however, he gives so many opportunities for extra credit. He is also very kind and caring and will help you with the material. Go to office hours!!!
Exams are worded horribly and are meant to confuse you. Readings are ridiculous and long. His lectures were very interesting and cool and there is a reason why it was full most classes, but having a class where 200/215 available points were from exams is brutal. Overall, this class is hard for no reason and takes hours upon hours of studying.
Dr. Cesario is very clear about what he expects from students, and I think that helped contribute to my grade in the course. You NEED to attend lecture if you want to do well in the class. You get extra credit for doing so, and majority of the content is not in the slides. If the content doesn't come easily to you, STUDY and go to office hours.
This class was one of the most interesting ones that I have ever taken. You can receive extra credit on random days for showing up (I recommend but you can still get a good grade without it) and there are several exams and a few other assignments to help your grade. There are also a few readings he posts but you'll have enough time for them.
Professor Cesario was my favorite professor at MSU, as a second year student. His lectures are engaging, as he does many class demos, and connects real time news with the topics. He is also just genuinely hilarious. His exams match his study guides, and he sets clear guidelines for the papers. I would 100% take him again as a psych major.
very engaging lectures, great at answering any questions
He is AMAZING! He is fully engaged and ready to get your brain involved; all you need to do is match responsiveness and readiness. However, I will halt my praise and say only one comment: the lecture slides he posts are sustainable for frequent absence, but attendance is SO beneficial to gain connections and associations and actually learn!
Class structure was absolutely horrible! 100% exam based, lectures don't have any slides to go off of you just have to sit there and listen to way he says, the D2L page has nothing in it to prepare for exams he just tells us to look at our notes then it is very difficult to take notes when he doesn't post any type of notes from the lecture.
I studies for every single exam, tried to record lectures, take notes and I still did bad on every exam. He had told us in the beginning of the semester that he will have someone take notes and he will try to post them. That never happened. His exams were so hard and made me hate a good and interesting class.
Very funny guy, will use lots of personal stories to explain what he's trying to teach. Tests are not hard or tricky at all. Will give you lots of extra credit for just showing up to class so a 3.5-4 is not hard to get in this class at all.
awesome funny guy, who is more than happy to explain a concept to you. I promise you if you do the readings and study based off of his LECTURE, NOT his slides, it will be an easy A for you. Show up to class!! It matters in this class!!
He genuinely does care about your grade, and always was willing to schedule appointments for office hours if you couldn't make it to the original time. A lot of your grade is based on exams, but if you attended lectures it was impossible not to do good. I finished with over 100% in the class, as he gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.
Seriously take this class online at your community college and save yourself the headache. His lectures and objectives do not prepare you for the tests. No matter how much I studied, not once did it make sense on the test. You have to show up to class and listen to his lectures or u will fail. He doesn't post anything from lectures.
Attendance is not mandatory but do not make the mistake that I did of then skipping a couple of classes. Each class you miss is then like -7% off your exam grade because the exam material only makes sense after attending the lecture even though he posts slides. Graded very largely on 4/5 exams (one drop) w/ a few assignments worth like 5 points.
His lectures Are very engaging compared to other professors I've had. You also learned a lot about yourself in this class through the material taught. If you pay attention and take notes, you will be fine on exam exams. Highly recommend!
