If you want an A and to learn a lot then take this man.
very helpfull prof... gives lots of chance to earn good grade in the class.
Prof. Chan is a realistic professional and teacher. I enjoyed his classes, but you must study prior to class, which is why I did well. And he helped me pass the CPA exam. THANK YOU PROFESSOR CHAN!
Thank you Professor Chan!!
Bad comments are not real. He is nice. Trying his best to help students. He gives many chances to the students to get a better grade.People who said he is a GPA killer, they are wrong. Remember it's accounting, at Baruch!
All bad comments are not true . Hi is the best ,will help you to understand the main concept. This is not an easy course so you have to sudy hard .He will inspire you to be an accounting major!!!
He's not the best, but he does try to be nice. Needs to be more organized and stop focusing on those who don't get it, at the expense of everyone else. His approach is very much a 'no child left behind' one.
This professor encouraged me to continue and work harder. I really appreciated this concern when he could have ignored my performance. Be prepared to work hard, but he is fair.
Don't take him. Crazy hard exams! No extra credit. And really hard to follow!
I did well in this class but I had to apply myself. Most supportive professor I had, but the course is challenging. Beware: you have lazy peeps who think they deserve an "A" because they look good or kiss up to the teacher. He grades you based on your work. He gives extra credit too!
Thanks Prof. Chan!! The material is tough! but Chan encouraging and gives chances for success!!!
People who failed SPELLING 101 should AVOID writing recommendations. If you are serious about doing well in Accounting, you SHOULD NOT run away like a CHICKEN from a professor would will challenge and teach the material needed for success in Accounting. I enjoyed taking Professor Chan. But, the material is tough - DUH!
I enjoyed this Professor. I really tries. He gets the material out to you. THANKS!!! And he grades fair!
Chan good. Thanks!
Professor is diligent - always helpful and assigns hwk that HELP with the exam. Exams are departmental but he tries his best to prepare you. Always has a pleasant attitude! Take him if you want to learn! Don't take him if you LAZY. LOL
I did NOT get an A, but I learned alot, and I did better in the next ACCT class because of Professor Chan. I learn a lot fr4m this man. Thankx Chan!
Took ACC 2101 on Spring 2011. He is great. His exams are tricky and difficult but if you really study hard you can handle it. He is always ready to help. Although I am an international student and don't speak English very well, he is very patient when answering my questions. He tries his best to help you and wants you to get a good grade!! Take him
When he says Maysee...he really means Macy's.
General nice guy who can be difficult to understand at times. Relies heavily on PowerPoint slides, but doesn't use the projector at all. Class material doesn't prepare well for departmental exams. Moves too quickly, but will take time to explain to those who ask. His class is more of a supplement than a source of actual learning and preparation.
As an honor student, I really enjoyed taking Professor Chan. He made the class special. I learned too but you must study which I did.
Joseph Chan is a great professor. The class is meant to be challenging and you must put many hours to study for exams. He is very nice and funny. I would recommend him if you are willing to work hard. Accounting is meant to be hard at Baruch so dont complain just work hard.
Professor Chan is a man of his word. He really looks out for his students. I believe we all know how serious and tough Cost Accounting, and the professors are not the ones making the exams. With that being said, if you want a good grade, take Professor Chan's class. I surely do not regret ever taking him!!!
One of the best accounting professor I took at Baruch so far! Such an inspiration and he gives good advice too! Not many people out there that care about students. Take him!
very good professor, always give good advisor, point very clear and useful to prepare the departmental exam, do the problem that he gives , you will guarantee pass the cost
My only problem was that he was difficult to understand and it became frustrating for me because it was such a difficult class
He is best accounting professor i have ever met in Baruch. He is very responsible for every student. His lecture has a clear logic. Inspiring for the whole life.
If you take away the Cost Departmental Test, Prof Chan would then be considered a 4+ star professor. He cares about his student, uses real life examples to explain, and tries to make the class more engaging. He provides REAL LIFE APPLICABLE method in studying. An ideal accounting professor. But the exam is hard. Must get tutoring, private whatever
Great class if you are ready to work hard and study well on your own
He lectures this class with extensive high expectation on auditing since he teaches auditing at Baruch. Sort of auditing-oriented AIS. Two midterms, one final and a warren case. The exams are noncummulative. Reply email quickly and show care for students' concern. Try for it! Study damn hard.
Professor Chan is an incredibly caring and thorough instructor. He forces you to think beyond what's on the textbook pages so be prepared to read and then apply those readings to CPA exam scenarios. You get out of this class what you put into it; making the effort and showing initiative goes a LONG way.
Prof. Chan is a very caring and genuine professor who wants you to do your best. His tests involve reading and memorizing the text book inside and out, even with that his questions can get confusing and vague. I recommend reading the book at least a couple of times and getting feedback from him during office hours, which he is always very open to.
Professor Chan wants his students to succeed, not only in class but also as future CPAs. If you have a hard time understanding him, kindly ask him to repeat himself or slow down, and he usually will. I just took my FAR. Thanks to professor Chan, I was comfortable with governmental and nonprofit accounting (which is a big chunk of the exam).
Prof. Chan is the best accounting professor. He has a passion to teach. He tries his best to help students. There are 159 students in our class, but he is able to respond email very quickly. Some of those emails even get at 2 am. He can offer additional office hours as long as you make appointment. Strongly recommend! Take him!
2 midterm, 1 final. Test is challenge, but NOT cumulative and he offers extra credits at final. If you miss him and take other AIS professor, you will regret.
3 tests. No homework, all is reading. 50 multiple choices each test, 25 come from the questions on the book after each chapter. You should at least get 50% right as long as you simply read those questions which he even upload to the Blackboard. Another 25 questions you need to read the textbook and study CPA exam which is hard, but good for CPA exam
Professor Chan is one of the best professors I have ever had. He truly cares about his students, responds to emails all the time and his lectures interesting and entertaining. I enjoyed every single lecture. It's an accounting class, we should study hard in order to get a good grade. Its Baruchs policy. Don't blame Professor for your bad grades.
His tests r killer. if you dnt read the book atleast 3 times dont expect to get higher than C. Good luck
Professor Chan cares his students a lot. He replies email fast. Yes, tests are so hard, but he provided a lot of hints so you can search online and practice again and again. And the tests are non cumulative. Only read the books and ppt is not enough to do well on the tests. So do more research will be better.
He is the best prof you will ever met in Baruch. He cares about his students and wants them to do well on test as well as in future. He offers extra credit because he wants everyone to succeed. Highly recommended.
He prepares you to be a successful CPA with not only whats on the book but also with his real life experience. He cares about everyone and walk an extra mile to make sure everyone is comfortable with the topic. Such a amazing person.
He knows how to teach, i learned so much. even though it was a four hour long class, never was boring. he is the real model of of a good professor as well as real accountant. Read the book and go to class, he discusses everything on the class. Solid Choice for AIS class.
He really knows how to encourage students. Some students got 60+ at midterm 1, with his encouragement, they got above 96 at midterm 2. He cares about every student's progress. He also talks about the real life experience and introduce CPA exam. Read the book and PPT, practice CPA questions, you will get good grade.
As a former baruch student, prof chan always appriciates our struggle and remjnds me how special we baruch students are. He teaches us to be street smart to find different sources to learn from not to stick on book only. He cares about everyone, email him at 2 am,he would reply unlike others. He is one of the best prof. I have ever met.
He is a great professor. He cares about students and tries to help you get a good grade. The class is not easy, you have to be prepared very well, read the book at least twice, then find as many outside resources as you can for practice. Overall, he is just amazing! Would definitely take his class again!
Professor Chan is very nice professor. He always care and encourage students to do better. Very responsible and reply email quick. In order to success, read the book before class. Pay attention on the topic he discuss on class. Research CPA questions and practice them. You will be fine. He is one of the best prof. Definitely take him again.
He prepares you to the ACC5400 and the CPA exam. 3 midterms and one Waren Case. Every ACC3202 professor is not easy in Baruch. He is not an exception. However, he opened my eyes to the audit field. It's out of my surprise to encounter a professor in Baruch who has such enthusiasm of teaching like him. Again, he is not easy, but he is worth taking.
I was lucky to take Prof. Chan's class. He really helped me to build my confidence after other 3000 level professors destroyed it. He gave extra credits to help you boost your grade. Do as many CPA questions as you can. That also good for your CPA exam later. I would like to take him again.
Wow, this class really is tough. I had a problem understanding his accent sometimes; however, he is super helpful, really cares about the students (now I understand the comments below- he really does!). AIS is just hard. He is a good choice. Just take him and get ready for the Audit class and CPA exam which he talks about all the time.
I took Prof. Chan's class on Fall 2016. It was very challenge to me, but eventually I got a good grade. Now I am taking ACC 5400 in summer. When I got good grade on quizs, I really appreciate Prof. Chan's teaching. His class prepared me well for auditing. I definitely recommend you take him. You may not know how good he is until you take auditing
He cares about his students and responds to emails really fast. He was also very passionate about the subject he was teaching. I did pretty well on other accounting courses but I didn't get anything from his lectures. He just couldn't explain things clearly enough. For the most time I had to study by myself.
Challenging class. NOT an easy A, but if you want to learn, take Prof. Chan. Very helpful for CPA exam. Also, he volunteers hours of his free time to answer any questions you may have. Important: USE IT! Great person and educator. Don't listen to complainers if you are ready to make an effort & study. 50 mcq+2 for extra credit on MT2 & final.
As others have said, it's a very challenging class. You need to study a lot from the book and also do research for CPA questions. But Prof. Chan is a great professor and even better person. You will learn a lot if you actually listen & he will answer any questions you may have, via email or in person. Definitely talk to him! Gives great feedback.
Professor Chan is definitely one the best professors at Baruch. He not only prepare you for the Audit Section of the CPA but he helps you shape your way thininking about the other accounting exams. he responds to his emails very quickly. Read the book, study hard, practice, practice and you will do good.
Prof. Chan is one of the best professor in the baruch. Teach us not only about the textbook, but also about the real world accounting!
Professor Chan is very knowledgeable in accounting. He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. Lectures are interesting. He always make time for his students. Exams are not difficult as long as you read the textbook and do practice questions.
Professor Chu is the best educator, he has excellent education and knowledge in Accounting. His teaching method is best. Learned alot about Ais and Audit. I wish he taught Audit.
Two midterm and Final. Not cumulative. Keep up with the lectures and class. Easy A. Tells exactly what will be on the tests and what to study. Exact same 20 questions from concept check questions and 5 from practice exam.
Hard tests.
I am taking him for the second time and I absolutely love him. As a former Baruch student he values everyone pursuing accounting major here at Baruch. He is always accessible and he inspires people to well. Absolutely a great professor! I leaned a lot from this class and I would take him again.
Hands down #1 Professor At Baruch. I really felt lucky that i made the right decision by taking him for 3100.
Im very lucky that i had this professor for this course. Nice person and great professor.
He is my man! I wish everyone was like him. Unlike other accounting professors, he only teaches what is most important for CPA exam and in real life. He also breaks down complicated topic so everyone can understand how one thing leads to other, other than throwing numbers on your face. Take him, he will teach you with real life scenario.
the greatest professor at Baruch !!!!!
The best professor ever! I enjoyed this summer class. He knows a lot about accounting information systems and CPA. I would take him again!!!!
Professor Chan is the best professor you can get for ACC3202 in Baruch. He explains everything well and you know what to expect on exams. He cares about his students a lot and would stay after class to answer any questions. If he sees you care about the subject he will go out of his way to give the best possible grade.
Good guy, he tries, mad confusing material. Guaranteed B grade if you dumb. Better than average AIS prof. but eh try to get in his class. Test banks are a must.
I think the book can be dense. He repeats the material in different ways, which is grand. Sparks your neurons. Gives opportunity to gain points and learn, that's a big plus. DC ADE LER - Look it up, helps summarize Accounting system. Best!
I recommend this professor to everyone. he is one of the nicest professor I have ever met at Baruch. always gives me good feedback and gives me advice on my career. Thank you Professor.
He is a fantastic person. I must say I haven't seen anyone as caring as this person. The material was hard. If you don't like to memorize things, this class is not for you: a lot to remember and a lot to study. Don't depend on test banks. Try to do well in the first exam, which is the easiest one out of three.
I know he means well and wants the best but he is really hard to understand at times and explains topics with one word for you to memorize. He elaborates but he makes it even more confusing than what it should be. Really good guy though who cares but you NEED to read the textbook or else you are guaranteed an F
BEST CLASS EVER. I took him in summer & he is so dedicated to his students. He gives 25/50 questions for all 3 exams. No H.W. but read the highlights of his slides in the textbook & you'll get an A. The TB is also very helpful, some questions from there. Sit in the front & participate. If he sees you're dedicated, you'll get the grade you want!
He really wants you to do well and does all he can to make sure of that. The exams are tricky but if you are willing to put in the necessary work, you can do well. He really goes out of his way to help.
He is very realistic and considerate as long as you proof with your efforts. He is your best bet... take him
He is really caring. He would answer everyones questions before moving forward with the material (might be annoying, but only because some people ask stupid questions) 27/52 questions on the exams are given to you, so there is no way you will get lower than B with a minimal effort. But to get an A you need to pay attention and show improvement.
the best professor ever, he is always there for whether to talk about investing or class material or recommendation. he goes above and beyond, really care about his students.
gives you half the questions on his tests. 2 midterms and a final non cumulative. Loves to go on tangents to talk about CPA exam, stocks, acc in real life. Not an easy A but a very easy B. no extra projects, recorded lectures, makes sure students understand whats going on
The most boring ACC class. Even Professor himself was falling asleep during his own lectures. Easy A. But he didnt teach us anything. No labs, no practice, no knowledge. Very disappointed. Every single class he was bragging for 30 min how great he is and how generous he is with grades. The only reason I didnt drop because I paid for this class.
2 midterms, 1 final (noncumulative) Provides very helpful review sheets for each exam. Replies to emails quickly and really cares about his students. Very helpful when it came to giving examples or extra problems if needed. Easy B, study review sheets, and read the powerpoints. Overall great class and professor.
I had professor Chan for AIS and Acc 3000 and honestly he is a good person. He seems to enjoy helping students and will set aside time to help his students. His tests are challenging imo, but you can do well in the class if you put in time. Take him!
Professor Chan is the best. You should take him since he know's the materials of other accounting courses.
Great Professor, cares about his students, and genuinely wants everyone to succeed. Don't follow his stock tips though, they are HORRIBLE. One of the stocks he was talking about got delisted within a week, I am not even kidding. But other than that you should definitely take his class if you can you won't regret it.
TAKE HIM! Professor Chan is caring, he wants you to do well. He replies to the emails fast and ready to help you if you have any questions. The exams are hard, make sure you practice homework problems on connect multiple times to be proficient, it helps a lot! Please email Professor if you studied hard and think you could do better! He is amazing
Professor Chan is the best teacher I had for the subject. I was failing but after I got him, I got easy a and b's. Professor Chan's work is so hard though. I need to review whole textbook and study until 3 am one time for a b- and that was curved. but that was only one time. I understand clearly on what he says.
Professor Chan provides slides of the material, and gives real world examples of how the material is applied. Stay on top of the readings so that you understand his examples. If you're confused, ask questions. He encourages students to ask questions whether during class, after class, or by email. He truly cares for his students. He's amazing.
Pros: Available outside of class. Dedicate an entire weekend for office hours. He cares a lot about the course. Cons: Spends too much time talking about stocks and trying to convince you to buy Tesla stocks. Makes outdated remarks such as women likes to shop... Whoever said he was easy is wrong. He's not the hardest but you have to WORK for the A.
We used connect for this class. Although we were the second highest scoring class out of all Acc2101 I still struggled a lot maybe that's a me issue. Prof is pretty nice with the reviews for quizzes and everything.
He's super easy to reach out, offer me late night appointment because I have part time job. His review is useful and makes me really want to learn. Personally he offer me different perspective on how to view a random work to relate to accounting so it help lands on first internship. To me he's not only a professor but a career life coach. Take him!
I only took this class because there were no other options. The professor doesn't really teach—he mostly talks about himself and repeats the syllabus. He never explains the homework, which is pretty tough, so i had to self-study. I stopped attending after the midterm since it wasn't helpful. Baruch really needs to offer more options for ACC 3000.
Professor Chan is a nice individual who cares about his students and will help them when needed!! However, his lectures are not the best, as he often talks for half of it and then crams some slides in. I would say, if you're comfortable with self-teaching and relying on the textbook, this class will be fine. The syllabus and assignments are clear.
My 2nd time taking this course. I tried it last summer and needed to drop. Joseph is a nice guy who's willing to help us out if needed. His online lectures is okay. 3 online exams are at fair difficulty, 33 MCQ, mostly calculations. I would have gotten an A if it wasn't for the DA project that I did bad on.
Online class. Prof was super nice but not great at actually teaching the material. Treat his class basically like an asynch class. You have to teach the material to yourself. Class was graded on 3 exams and a solo project. If you can learn by yourself its a good class to take.
Wouldn't recommend Professor Joseph Chan. He cold-calls every class, and participation is 20% of the grade—big reason I did poorly. Frequent pop quizzes made it hard to study or keep up. I wish I hadn't taken it.
Professor is alright, but heavy workload and you have to participate a lot. Participation is heavy for your grade. Recommend different professor, Don't take this professor!!
He cares about his students and is willing to make time for anyone who needs help. You can talk about his teaching not being clear but he gives us EVERY opportunity to ask questions, so ASK questions. Participate and you will have a good time.
You can't expect this class to be a piece of cake you have to work hard. I took this class in the fall and really enjoyed it. Professor Chan gives 100% during lectures and loves it when students ask questions. Make sure you show up, do the assignments, and stay up to date with the coursework. He is AMAZING!
I'm seeing negatives comments and I'm so confused. No matter how great you are, people will have something to say. Taking him was one of the best decisions I have made this year. He's the most caring profess you will ever have. His goal is to help everyone understand the material I wish he taught more courses. If I were you, i wouldn't think twice.
Honestly the best professor ive ever taken here at Baruch College! He taught the material with passion, and always looked to help everyone succeed in the class. 3 online exams at fair difficulty, all multiple choice questions. I definitely recommend taking him, as he is someone as well open to ask questions regarding recruiting for big 4!
