Not bad for speech class

He's the best speech prof at PAC.

Just go to class and its almost a guarantee to pass. The only thing is that he grades the speeches like if we were professionals, so dont expect to get A's.

I was surprised to find that I actually enjoyed this particuliar class. It remained interesting and the structure was excellent.

You did a great job keeping me intrested in a subject i thought would be boring, your were always prepared, and sometimes you were just in a hurry.

Mr. Coppola keeps you on your toes in this class, you really have to pay attention to detail and although challenging you will walk away feeling confident enough to speak in front of an audience regardless of the size.

Uh! You will learn to take this word out of your speeches. This instructor will catch any flaws you have with your public speaking. Take this criticim and improve them and you will be on your way to an easy class and good grade. Highly recommend.

This class is a solid class for those that already know how to speak in front of others. It's hard to get a perfect score on a speech. If you listen attentively when he reads the PowerPoint slides from each chapter, you will be in good shape and when he says this item is going be on the test, you shall not have any problems. Mainly his mid-term and final is group-based.

I took this class because i had to. I thought is was going to be a big waste of time. However, in the end, i really learned alot in this class. Our midterm and final were short answer questions. I learned more than what I expected. It is not easy to get a A on a speech but as long as you put an effort you will pass. the tests are group tests and thats cool because not all teachers do that

The text was said to be "required" and cost over $80, but there were never any assignments requiring it. All the needed information was just from the lectures. So don't buy the book!

Best class experience I have had since attending Palo Alto. Looked forward to going to class. Was not the usual go to class listen to lecture take notes kind of course. Wow, I feel more confident about speaking in front of an audience as a result of JC's approach to teaching speech. I highly recommend taking this instructor. Don't buy the book.

Class focuses on group work and at first I did not think I would enjoy working in groups, but it was good overall. However, when speeches were presented I would look at him but his face had no reaction so I didn't know if you liked hated or was tuning out to my speech.

Good teacher! You will learn and you will have to do your assignments. Speeches have good topics and he goes by the syllabus. Some extra credit but not too much, which is good because it wouldn't be fair to those of us who do our work! Will take off for absences but also has a day to make one up. overall the class was good. He offers a good amount of extra credit and gives you a chance to make up any missed speeches. There were 5 speeches in the semester. Mr.Coppola teaches very well, you leave out of the class knowing how to speak in front of people. He is very helpful when you do not understand an assignment. The mid-term was easier as he let as work in groups. Their is extra credit at the end of the semester which is great to bring up them speeches. Speeches are easy, if you prepare yourself .

He was very helpful and often available when I needed. I thought he was a bit insensitive about attendance. His grading criteria is too high. I found he was very difficult to satisfy. I'm usually an "A" student, but I just barely passed w/ an A. However, if you follow lectures and read the txt book, you can manage to pull a good grade.

He was a good teacher but he was insensitive of attendance. Don't think he should be able to take points off of your final grade for missing more than two classes. Hard grader. Needs to ease up on that. Also needs to be fair on what he takes off for speeches. I noticed I got more taken off than another student for the same mistake..

Very good teacher. Explains materials well and is a "people person". Although I felt he could be a little hard on the grading. After taking his class I came away feeling better when talking in front of large groups of people.

At first glance there seems to be a large number of assignments. Once you get into them, it is a great learner opportunity. I found that the class was overall not difficult if you apply what you are lectured and put effort in the preparation. Would like to see a sliding scale for attendance as this is a weekend class.

Although my heart still pounds when I give a speech, I learned a lot about giving speeches and I also learned that if I just don't care what other people think then I can speak without being nervous. Great class, but too many speeches, I wish we spent more time on how to give speeches instead of giving them. :)

Professor is very knowledgeable on topic but tends to be subjective while grading speeches. I would suggest having less speeches. I did enjoy the class but I found it very hard to please you. Grade according to your guidelines. You tend to expect people to be able to speak on your level - grade according to an beginner level college speech class.

Mr.Coppolla, was a nice teacher to have for speech. But be prepared to do at least 10 speaches if you go on Saturdays. Other than that it's easy.

MR. COPPOLA IS A GREAT TEACHER, AND HIS CLASS IS FUN AND EASY IF YOU JUST STICK TO THE INSTRUCTIONS, DO THE WORK, AND COME TO CLASS EVERYDAY. IF YOU DO ALL THESE YOU WILL BE FINE. He has great communication skills! I'd venture to say he's the best in this area and I've been around the block. He can be a very demanding grader, but, remember, you get out what you put in. I think taking apart the individual sections of the speech (i.e. attention getter, pp slides, etc.) and just making little exercises on just them would help.

This class was very helpful. What didn't help much though that if you miss a class on the wrong day you will fall behind being that the semester is very short. But well shouldn,t be missing class anyways. Either that the speech assignments where good so it was easy to pick out a good speech for yourself

all in all I enjoyed thhis class very much. The speched we did I though were pretty fare. Speech time was reasonable, the topics were fun, I especailly like the impromtu speeches, he let us pick our topics which I think that made me comfortable.

The assignments were easy. I liked how you can choose a majority of the topics to do a speech over. I also like how some of the speeches allowed me to meet people in the class. I didn't like how sometimes the syllabus wasn't followed exactly especially when it came to speech time.

I took him in smr II of '09,and i would highly recommend that you take him if you need a speech class.He grades very fairly , and will inform you of your grade very quickly .you will use power point on a couple of the presentations.After taking his class I feel more confident to give a presentation or speech.

Pretty good teacher. I'd rocommend him. But, get ready to do alot of assignments. (Some fun, some not). He's a great kind of teacher especially for someone like myself who is unmotivated.

He expects to much on the final. He gave us the notes in the beggining and thats it not even a practice test not even one. I am extremely stressing over this final. I need this class but i dont know if i will pass. He expects us to know exactly what is what provide a definition and an example for like 20 questions that have about six parts included

A lot of Speeches and a lot of journals. There is one journal every week for the first two months. I like how many speeches we had because they are for the most part our choice and can be made interesting. I feel the class improved my public speaking ability and I would say I enjoyed the class.

okay this prof is tight. i like that he gave us the exact info we needed to know for the final. i like that the majority of the class is based on speech presentations. he grades way to critically though. he needs to relax with the red pen a little. i dont like the fact he takes points off for walikng into a presentation. goodlistener&understanding

definately knowledgible in this area. i learned alot from this instructor and always made himself available. i didn't like the journal assignment #5 or the dyad project. i understand that it was meant to help us open up, but i found it uncomfortable and some of the questions too personal, but other than i enjoyed the class.

The class was interesting and definitely improved my public speaking. The journals were relevant to what was trying to be taught. One negative to this class is the final is crazy. I think there should be a big bonus or maybe a few questions off because the final is very tough. Tougher then any class I've taken so far and I have 48 hours.

I'm sure there are probably easier speech classes you can take. There's a good number of speeches and journals, this is probably the class that will benefit you most in the long run but if you're looking for easy there's probably easier. Tough final too!

This was a really fun class! Going into this class i was thinking that i was just going to go through the motions but it really made me start to think outside of the box. The Small group project at the end of the semester is something to really look forward to! Thats when the real fun kicks in:)

This class is pretty simple, as long as all assignments are turned in before its due date there shouldnt be any reason to fail. He isnt the type of professor to let late work slide so be sure to have all work complete before presenting. After taking this class i have learned to be more responsible with my time. HE HAD ALOT OF PATIENCE WITH THE STUDENTS AND WAS ALWAYS WELLING TO EXPLAIN OR HELP WHEN IT WAS NEEDED. THE ONLY THING THAT I DIDNT REALLY LIKE WAS THE FACT OF HAVING A QUIZ EVERY FRIDAY OVER THE CHAPTERS BC IT WASN'T MULTI-CHOICE BUT OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS GOOD.

I really enjoyed the class, and the teacher was real calm, fun, and cool with all the students. The only problem I had with the prof. was the way he graded us on our speeches. He was hard on the grades for an intro class, but i will recommend him, because you learn a lot and it will be very helpful in the future.

I think that during the chapter speech's part half of the grade should be on student activity because it would keep the class way more interested.

The only thing I didn't like about the course was the quizzes at the end of presentaions. I just couldn't remember all the facts and I wished that we had time to study for the quizzes.

Coppala just grades too hard...this class just seems that an A will never be giving...more examples need to be giving to see what he really expects...group projects are okay.

Professor Coppola is an incredible teacher. He was well organized in all of his speeches. I was especially fond of the way he spoke. Usually professors seem to talk at us and force information down our throats, however, Mr. Coppola always spoke in a calm voice that invited me and many of my classmates to listen.

Really helpful and most of the things learned in class is posted online. This saves money on books and can be used for other classes or something else. Work is easy and give your all in the speeches and do research to provide resources for the topic choosen to talk about. Other than that it is a good class to relax and have fun.

I took this class in the Fall Semester of 2010. I really enjoyed his class very much. He was a helpful teacher and I thought the class was easy. The test we're all fill in the blank, and if you pay attention to the powerpoint test questions thats whats on the test :)

At first I dreaded taking this class because I hated speech in high school but Mr. Coppola was a great teacher and he helped me whenever I needed it.

Mr.Coppola gave alot helpful information such ppt that would prepare us for our speeches, gave me helpful feedback for interviews.

if you need this class i recommend him because it is a relaxing class to get all your problems away for awhile text book not required n saves money final exam is easy

Mr. Coppola is a very good teacher, he gives very helpful feedback after every speech, for those who need a speech class i recommend to take his class, his final was pretty easy , but you will need to study for his tests.

He is quite professional. Be sure to focus more on correctly meeting the speech requirements than secondary elements. People who focus on these miss the point, and he will deduct points for it. Stay within the time limits and be sure to address the original purpose of the speech. NOTE: you do NOT need the book; his online notes are fully adequate.

Great Teacher. He really works with you and he is very understanding. I have only taken him for 1 summer class and he is one of my favorite teachers at palo alto. I would most deff. take him again, and recomend him to anyone planning on taking a speech class.

took a speech class before and i hated it. Made me feel like i didnt know anything, but mr. coppola really helps you get over your fears on talking in front of people. Very easy to talk to make sure you attend class tho. if not you miss alot of things going on but over all thanks for a great summer class !!!

Great class!! I was nervous and had a fear of giving speeches in front of people, Coppola made it very easy and would highly suggest class to anyone.

I liked that he gives great advice and he was always there to answer any question you have. His class was enjoyable and informative.

Overall the skills I learned will help me in my future with school and career. The grading can be steep sometimes, but if you work hard you will be rewarded.

this course was challenging yet it opened my eyes to the world of speech as it pretains to my everyday life and how i will use it in the future. not only did i learn how to use skills in communication, i learned how to apply them to real life situations.

The class was great. I was dreading taking a speech class but it was actually a lot better than I expected. Very informative and comments given for each speech were helpfully. Test are hard but if you study the powerpoints you will be fine.

he was very informative and was verry down to earth and there maybe a few things on the instructions on what we can and can not do for the speeches. but as along as u pay attation and go to class easy its a easy and great class.

before taking the class i was kind of nervous but our teacher was really helpful and just always made sure we knew what was going on in the class. and just always offered to help us out anyway he could.there isnt really anything i didnt like. this was a really good class.

Great instructor. He is very informative and explains everything thoroughly. Very helpful and answers all questions. He does grade your speeches according to the criteria, so you need to make sure you are aware of the criteria. Nice guy, awesome speaking voice, and pretty interesting class to take.

I took his online class, not hybrid. Online!! And we were required to meet with group once a week and have to work around everyone's schedule. And for final we have to do community service. This was an easy class if instructions followed. But I took an online class because I have swamped schedule and had a very hard time working around it

The professor cares about you and will help you out in whatever you need. Some cons would be that he gives homework often and sometimes it is confusing. You really need to listen to what he says or you will not understand what you need to do.

He provides help when needed. There will be a lot of group discussions, and you will have to make speeches in front of class although its helpful because it makes class more interesting.

He is an amazing professor. Helped me a lot during his class and is definitely there for his students. He gives his students tons of opportunities, honestly if you fail his class it's because you only have yourself to blame.

Be ready to speech in front of class a lot. Encourages student to be confident in front of class speaking. One of the only professor I have ever had that talked to students about scholarship's. Also informed class about resources available on campus. Defiantly one of the best professor on campus!

Professor Coppola is an outstanding professor. He genuinely cares about his students and their success. He is willing to accommodate you with late homework as long as he sees you trying. He gives very specific direction in all assignments. There is a lot of reading and homework just about every day, but he is definitely recommended for Speech class

Professor Coppola is extremely helpful and will work with you on anything. There are a lot of assignments but they aren't extrememly difficult and the final is open book. He gives extra credit and just wants everyone to suceed.

I took his Public Speaking class online for a Maymester. It was extremely hard & a lot of work, but it's always expected in a maymester. Communicate with him & he will work with you. He's a fantastic teacher & helps you improve as a speaker. I would 100% do this class again. I was not looking forward to speech but it turned out to be my favorite.

Speech class: Sounds easy, right? Well, it's not going to be what you expect it to be. This course is going to require a lot of time and dedication on your part. If you want the A, you're going to have to work for it. Professor Coppola provides a lot of resources throughout the course, but there is also a great deal of assignments to keep up with.
