Made Statistic meaningful. Situations and applications were relevant to everyday life. Challenged us but never to the point of frustration.
Great calc professor will defiantly make sure you know the material. Exams are extremely fair and he wants you to do well in the class
Is a very straight edge teacher. If you do exactly what he says you will do well in the class. Tends to keep some classes short and to the point which is really nice.
Really wants you to learn the material rather than just memorize enough to pass tests. The tests are challenging, but compared to other calc classes at the school, the students in his class did way better at understanding the material.
Don't take any other calc professor. He seriously cares so much about students well being. Not only does he want everyone to learn the material but he makes it almost impossible to fail his class. If you go to every class and put in effort you'll be able to pass the class with a good understanding of the material. Best math professor at Wentworth!
Best Calc professor by far in Wentworth. Really works with the students if they have any issues. Classes are kept short and to the point of the lessons.
Had him for Stats, at first it was an easy A but towards the end of the semester he introduced new material without going over it and it became hard. Only helped students one at a time for A LONG time instead of going over a problem with the class. Overall enjoyed him he was funny and kept classes short and to the point. I would recommend him.
He's a great professor, he is clear and if you don't think so then all you have to do is ask him to clarify. Really good with you asking questions, will help you as much as he can if you ask him. Will only keep you there as long as he needs to cover material so we'd get to leave early which was nice. I hate math generally but this was a good class.
He is a very fair grader, and he gives great lectures.
Very helpful and makes sure you understand before going forward
Pretty clear on what he expects of you and not too difficult to pass as long as you show up and pay attention. He takes stats a subject that can sometimes be hard to understand and makes it easier than most others.
great professor. funny. enjoyed going to class.
Good teacher, very helpful, explains in detail
Great Prof! Very clear and thorough before moving on. If you don't understand something its because you didn't ask or were not listening. Did as well as my friends who took the online version of the class. Final project instead of Exam.
Sometimes allows to take testsquizes from home. Really good teacher. Utilizes class time but allows gets you out on time. If you are struggling he will give you help until you understand. Tests are also fair. I would definitely take him again.
Broesph Cotton is my boy. Good grasp on the subject matter and will explain the material in a few different ways that are easier to understand if you don't get it at first. Work load is pretty standard nothing ridiculous. You need the online book because it includes a program you need. Lets you out of class early if you finish what he has planned.
Great guy, really down to earth. His main goal is to make sure you take something out of the class. More than reasonable and extremely fair. Great professor I'd take him again for sure.
Sets a pace that easy to stay up with. Presents material in summary form, gives hard copies of PowerPoints to take notes. Gives meaningful applications. Very approachable and knows his material well without being arrogant. Also has a good sense of humor.
Great Teacher, no complaints, understands that there is more to life than stats but wont let you get away with skipping to many classes
Guy is the man
Not a bad class overall, calls on people randomly, so you should probably pay attention, although the material isn't super difficult generally. Will let class out early as long as he is done with the lesson, so that's a plus.
He is a nice guy, just get to class every meeting. Do all the assignments and you should be good. Study hard for the tests. Occasionally he gives online tests or quizzes, and these are usually tougher than the paper format. So especially study hard for these. Only thing I would tell him to change is give all tests and quizzes on paper
There is a significant amount of homework and small assignments spread throughout the semester. It was easy to manage and the content wasn't particularly challenging. If you need help, he's usually at the front of the class or he will reply to emails in a reasonable amount of time. You need the online textbook to pass.
Professor Cotton really wants you to do well, he knows his stuff. Don't expect to do well if you don't go to class. Although I didn't use the textbook, if you're having trouble cracking it open won't hurt. There are office hours and Professor Cotton is very helpful in these sessions. A lot of work is online. You'll do well if you try.
Great professor overall, I just wish he would update his blackboard page so that we know how we're doing throughout the semester. It's a scary idea to be falling behind and not even know it.
You can tell he likes what he does. He's very straight forward with the class material and ends early if all material is covered. He has a great grasp of subject matter. Always willing to help and good at it too. Over all great professor. Don't draw on his classroom table tops.
Professor Cotton is a great professor, he is clear and concise with his teaching, gives you many opportunities to better your grade, and actually cares about his students. He also understands that his course is not the most important course you'll take here unlike other professors at this school. Overall great guy and great teacher.
Very nice, easy. Makes it very hard to fail, also gives test corrections for more points on tests.
Professor Cotton was helpful. He went through the material thoroughly and made sure everyone understood it before moving on. Rarely ever spent the full 50 minute lectures. He covered the material, answered any questions and let you leave. Not like most professors who start a new powerpoint with 5 min left.
Great guy!!
Professor Cotton is great. Took statistics and it was the best course I took during the semester. He is very helpful and makes sure all info is relayed properly. He gives second chance points on exams for 50% of what you could have earned. Very laid back, and doesn't expect you to act as though his course is the only one you're taking.
My only teacher this semester that I enjoyed going to class for. He was great at working with your during class to understand the material. He went at a slower pace than some of the other professors, but it was helpful to fully understand the content.
Awesome Professor. His was of describing calculus is different from any other teacher and he puts in effort to making sure everybody in the class understands. All of the material needed is reviewed during class so we never needed a textbook.
Calculus is a topic that I've always had trouble with, and while that is still the case, I've found Prof. Cotton to be approachable and a skilled teacher in the area. If you're willing to put in the effort, he'll help you out and be pretty lenient about a lot of things. Participation in class is encouraged and will help you, but isn't required.
He's a pretty chill guy to be honest, I didn't have a strong math background but he really puts things in ways that made more sense to me. Math is different for everyone though.
One of the best professors at Wentworth. He knows what he is talking about and loves questions. He is really helpful and wants to see the students succeed.
Does a great job keeping a potentially boring topic interesting
Great teacher always willing to meet with you outside of class to help. He gives you opportunities to earn points back on your tests. Highly recommended if you want a funny and cool teacher.
Very fair grader. Makes material clear, Fills in the gaps with history and origins of material. Wants everyone to succeed. Easy to talk with, easy to work with.
If you want a great first-year teacher, he is the one!! Attendance is only mandatory to get worksheets which are graded. Give test reviews similar to the tests! No need for the book.
Professor Cotton is the man to take, teaches the material well and gives you multiple chances to make up test points. Be sure to take him.
There wasn't one class that wasn't interesting and there was always some sort of humor. The grading is fair. Definitely take him.
Great professor, great course, just gotta show up
Professor Cotton keeps class interesting and keeps the class engaged. Allows students to re-take tests. Very fair professor, definitely would take Professor Cotton again.
One of the best math professor's I've ever had. Its important to show up to class because your attendance is worth a test grade at the end of the semester. Work is easy and understandable. Would highly recommend talking him.
Professor Cotton is the man to take he is the most genuine professor I've ever had. I think that this is the first math class I've looked forward to going to
Very great professor
Good guy
he is a great professor and understands you are not a math major. makes lectures as short as possible and you always will get out of class early on Friday's. not many hand calculations everything's done with a click of a button on stat-crunch. highly recommend this professor
If you are taking Statistics this guy is the one to take. Everything about him is great. Do not pick anyone else.
Attendendce is counted like a test grade. He does allow stuff late even online test.
All around great guy. If you are looking for a professor who understands where the students in his class are coming from, then this is your guy. You will learn, you will participate, and you won't mind. If you have the chance to take him you absolutely should, you will not regret it.
Great prof. Very insightful but you better be paying attention, otherwise he may make a fool of you.
Cotton is a great teacher especially for students who struggle with calculus. Cotton cares about his students and often times pushes them to understand the subject.
Overall a good teacher but I do not like how he prints out all of our notes. Personally I learn better from copying down notes in my notebook.
Very knowledgeable and understanding in class. Also easy to talk to and wants everyone to succeed.
Prof. Cotton is a great prof. He has only a few exams in class that he will let you make up points for if you get questions wrong. Hew takes his time to make sure all students understand the material and is accessible after class. Barley any HW. Take him if you can.
I've taken prof Cotton's Calculus 1 class this semester and will be the first to sign up for him next semester. Easy to understand, and if you have a problem or need extra time he is always available and/or will change due dates.
Professor Cotton's class is a pleasure to be in. If you're doing bad, he'll go through lengths to help you out and ensure that you success in his class. He enjoys doing his job and he'll explain something again if you ask him to.
Professor Cotton is an amazing guy, who's persona is only outdone by his phenomenal teaching skills. His lectures are extremely informative, while his homework, quizzes, and classwork are very fair. He offers corrections for his quizzes for more points, and will give help to anyone who asks. Highlyrecommend.
Prof. Cotton is a very intelligent and respected instructor who's goal is to help students succeed in his class. His lectures are usually entertaining, even for an 8am class. Also, Prof. Cotton is very easy to access outside of class and is willing to spend extra time to help his students understand any topics that were covered. Highly recommended!
Best professor I have had this semester. Sensitive to student's needs and is very knowledgeable about subject matter.
Joseph Cotton is one of the best mathematics teachers in Wentworth. He takes the time to explain every detail and go over all concepts of Calculus.
Professor cotton is very approachable and helps anyone who is falling behind. His lectures are easy to follow if you pay attention. He gives out a large amount of homework, however its not overwhelming if you keep up with the assignments. Tests are fairly easy and he gives plenty of chances for extra credit. I would recommend cotton over most.
I had professor Cotton for Calculus II and he was great at teaching the material in the simplest way possible. He makes sure everyone understands the details before he moves on to the next thing. He goes over the exact type of problems that show up on tests and the gateway, so as long as you do well on review packets you will do well on the test.
By far the best math teacher I have had. He relates the material to real life situations. He will work with you till you understand the material.
Professor is great at explaining topics and uses real life instances to support data. Class actually makes sense.
Professor Cotton is the only reason I enjoyed coming to calculus and to be honest, probably the only reason I passed. His teaching style fit this class well and his little quips and mnemonic devices made a class I thought i would hate, bearable and a little fun.
Prof Cotton is solid in Cal I. In Cal II, he taught everything clear and reasonable, except the Physics side of Cal. Tell him immediately if you don't understand, he does spend time to help you understand the materials. He gives lots of useful tips. The amount of homework is reasonable. He has many amazing stories, so talk to him.
Prof Cotton is very understanding about missed work and absences, as long as you let him know what is going on. Took Calculus 1 with him and loved it. Talks very clear and will work with you. He has an amazing humor. He is however very strict about taking notes as he talks.
The best teacher to take for Engineering Calc 1, I am taking him again for Eng Calc 2. He explains things in depth and does not move on until everyone in the class has spoken. He is among one of the only calc 1 teachers who properly prepared students for the gateway. Lots of HW assigned but in order to fully understand the material you must do it.
Always cheerful, good sense of humor, really excited about what he teaches, and knows his material.
If you show up to class and look at the study guides that are emailed our you should pass no problem. Very nice as a guy and I am taking him again for Calc 2. Would recommend taking him if given the chance.
Ask if you need help, Professor Cotton will make sure you understand before moving on.
good teacher
Group assignments, lecture almost every class, well respected prof.
He is a respected professor, and is always avaible for extra help outside of class.
Great calculus I professor, am taking again next semester to avoid terrible other professors.
Respectable professor, but gives lots of group work. He is available outside of class and is always happy to help. Great professor, take him when/if you have the chance.
Great Professor for Calculus 1. I am definitely enrolled in his Calc 2 class next semester. Provides great lectures and is very approachable for any questions. Easily the best Calc professor in the school. Would definitely recommend for anyone who is taking Calculus.
Professor Cotton opens up all the homework assignment on webworks at the beginning of the semester. This was helpful as he allows you to start them ahead of time and also gives plenty of time to complete them. He also gives time in class to ask specific questions on the homework to explain the exact problems we had.
Prof Cotton has been my favorite prof. He is very understanding and accommodating for students who are driven and want to learn and less so for those who are not as driven. One of the first things he tells you on the first few days is "this class will be as difficult as you make it," and that's held true. Might be the best calc prof there is.
Really helps you out if you need it. Has a very good open door policy when it comes to tutoring.
He is always available to help. one of the best teachers i had in my life and maybe even the best. He takes his time with his lectures. if you don't understand something don't be afraid to raise your hand and ask him to go over because he will. he also would not leave one step out. if you don't getting it you can always go to office hours.
Extraordinary professor who cares about his students and will go out of his way to make sure you grasp the material he presents. He explains why you need things you're being taught instead of just expecting you to regurgitate the information back to him. He wants nothing but to see you succeed.
Best math teacher that I've had as an incoming sophomore. Very clear on what you should expect on exams, easy to contact/talk to, and will make sure that you know the material before moving on. Extremely nice guy that will talk to you about his experiences outside of class. My only recommendation is to try not to miss too many classes, as always.
If you show up to class, pay attention, and do the work, then you will pass. Professor Cotton is also there to help if you need it.
Works to engage with the class and make topics easier to understand. Not afraid to slow down so that others in the class are not lost. Gives extra credit options if the class is struggling.
Professor Cotton has been one of the best math professors that I've had during my time at Wentworth. His teaching is straightforward and his lectures are full of examples that make the concepts taught easy to understand. He cares about students truly learning the material and will work with them until they do.
Professor Cotton will do everything he can to make you understand the material. As long as you show up to class and do all the work, you will pass. If you don't understand something, ask a question, and he will try to teach it a different way to better your understanding. He is also easily accessible outside of class for extra help.
By far the best professor Ive ever had by a mile. I would definitely recommend other students to take his class.
Prof. Cotton is an amazing professor who cares greatly whether or not you understand the material or not. He is willing to shift his entire teaching method to reach students in a way that is more comprehensible. He does give a fair bit of homework, and he makes you work for your grade, but in the end it is all to your benefit. Would take again.
Cotton is one of the best professors at Wentworth and is a gem of a professor. You should definitely take him if u get the chance. Calculus II is hard but he makes it fun. The end of the year project is fun and worth a good portion of your grade. Test preparation is very useful and he makes it so you can pass no matter what.
Professor Cotton is the best calculus professor I have ever had. He is super nice and available all the time. Always willing to help and make sure you have everything you need to succeed. 10/10.
Genuinely helpful whenever you're struggling with something. Make sure to reach out to him whenever you need as he is consistently accessible and willing to help.
Professor Cotton is a great professor and will adapt his teaching methods to the class. He is a great guy and gives you the chance to correct your homeworks if you pass them in early.
Yuh yuh fun class, come to class your you will get shamed. Valid tho
Calculus is going to be hard no matter where you take it, but Professor Cotton really makes the effort to make sure that everyone is understanding it. The tests are a nice mix of multiple choice and free response. Overall, I would recommend Cotton and definitely would take him again and suggest you do too.
Great Professor, cares about teaching, and is always willing to answer questions.
I personally enjoyed this class.
Great teacher
Great professor for my Engineering Calculus I 1750. Ensures students understand material and that no one is left behind or confused during lessons. Would definitely take another course taught by Professor Cotton again.
He is really great person and teacher. His way of teaching is very good. He cares about everyone in class. If you don't understand materials, He is happy to reexplain it. He is very helpful.
Professor Cotton is, in my opinion, a one of a kind math teacher at Wentworth. His class isn't the easiest, but it is also super difficult either. If you show up to class and make sure to do the homework, you will have no trouble at all getting a good grade. He makes you work for the grade you get, but you end up knowing a lot more in the end.
He's not the usual professor. He gives you feedback on your work after being turned in, he banters during class making it lighthearted rather than a boring math class. Just keep up with his work, and pay attention in class and you'll be fine.
An amazing person, professor, and even speaker. He has a lot of wisdom and it is a joy to be in his classes. He's got a lot of passion for what is right when it comes to teaching and tries his best to match any student's learning style. I'm very grateful to have had him as my Calculus professor. Would take him 100x over if possible.
Class is pretty easy the only time you will have trouble is if you don't pay attention in class. The only negative I can think of is that the dates for the homeworks aren't always announced but you just have to keep track of the homework schedule sheet which isn't that hard to do.
A great teacher who makes sure not to leave anyone behind when teaching lessons. Gives good feedback on mistakes made on assignments. Tests are similar to the study guide handed out for practice. Always ready to help and fix any confusion students have.
Over all a great guy and if It wasn't for my poor determination in calculus I would've gotten a great grade because this is a great teacher. Don't be afraid to speak up in his class and ask questions because he is more than welcoming when it comes to clarifying and helping students understand the material.
Definitely worth taking if you have the chance. Puts in a lot of effort to break concepts down in an easy manner. His grading is pretty fair and a funny guy as well.
One of the best Professors I've had at Wentworth. Kind lecture heavy, but if you do the homework and pay attention in class then you'll do well.
Solid professor, show up (or don't you'll be fine as long as you study)
Great professor, explains clearly and knows exactly what he is doing. Clears any doubts you have in the moment without judgement. Offers help in and outside of class.
One of the best classes I have taken so far, Professor Cotton is engaging and easy to learn from.
Good Professor! Maybe a bit too much homework.
Love him. Great guy and even better professor.
Best Professor I have had yet in any math class at Wentworth. Take him for Multi-Variable!
Definitely worth taking if you have the chance and or taking calculus. Puts in a lot of effort to break hard concepts down in an easy manner. His grading is pretty fair and a pretty funny guy as well.
Great professor overall. Makes lectures so that you can get engaged and not dread every class.
He clearly knows the ins and outs of what he's talking about, and goes in depth with many examples to make sure you understand. He does partner quizzes, which in my opinion are the best thing you can do in a math course. 3 group HW's every week, graded on accuracy.
He's a great guy and a great professor. Make sure you keep up with the work and he will reward you. He's willing to own up to mistakes and change the style of the course depending on how the class learns best.
Definitely one of my favorite Professors. He relates content we learn to real life situations and helps connect the value of calculus in many of our other courses.
Guy is a great teacher. Show up to class and you won't be confused. Super nice guy and is always making jokes. Class is very participation based in lectures. Make sure you have him as your teacher if you ever get the chance. He's a top lad.
Lectures are easy to follow and give good examples. Always does his best to make sure you understand concepts and will answer any questions you have. Even if you dont understand the concepts he goes over the processes well so its easy to complete the homework and quizzes. One of the best math professors Ive ever had.
Professor Cotton is the type of professor that values/cares about student learning and really goes in depth with the examples in class. I enjoyed the real life examples he uses in class to connect everything together. His teaching is very straight forward, to the point, which I really appreciated. I would definitely take another class of his.
Professor Cotton stops and takes the time to see if you truly know the material. He is a very good professor.
JC is a great guy. He teaches calculus like no other. He really makes sure that you understand the course material and is a great guy overall. I highly recommend his class.
He is a good teacher who helps and tries to understand how you perceive the information to better help you.
I would recommend him for a professor, he's very helpful
He was a great teacher. Very understanding and helpful. A great guy that I wish I was able to take Calculus II with!
Professor Cotton is always available for extra help, but his lectures are clear and concise. You won't only understand how to solve the problems in his course but why you solve them the way you do. Gives students a deep understanding of the meaning of the content. Will be taking for Calc II.
Caring toward students, may tease or pick on you but its all out of good intentions. Makes sure youre caught up and reaching out if you dont understand is so beneficial.
Does a lot to make sure you know what you don't know and can learn it.
Good Professor, I only had problems with the homework not being able to be submitted on bright space where it shows the due date as an upcoming deadline, instead, we had to email our homework to him every time. So it was easy to get lost in his work. Other than that, very nice guy and I would take him again.
If you do all the homework and pay attention in the lectures everything is easy to understand. I recommend taking Professor Cotton.
I have had no issues whatsoever with this professor, and I would easily take another one of his classes again.
Prof. Cotton is a really good choice of teacher because he makes the work very easy to understand and helps to make sure that everyone in class does not fall behind. He is also a very fair and understanding teacher when it comes to anything outside of class.
Professor Cotton is a good professor that cares about the students. He makes sure that everyone in the class understands the lectures and gives time at the end for questions. He also responds to emails and gives feedback quickly. Overall, he is a great professor and I would definitely recommend him for anyone taking calculus.
I took Calculus I with Professor Cotton and I would have taken Calc II with him if there was a spot open. I enjoyed the fast pace learning environment and took away a lot from this class.
Great teacher. Made math very simple and easy to understand
He will end the class early if youve finished the work that you had to do or if he feels that hes gone through everything that he planned on teaching for the day. Study a little bit if you dont understand the lessons, but otherwise youll be able to get an A no problem.
Professor Cotton always knows how to give a funny comment and teaches you the material of the class, but also why you're learning it and where it came from. Definitely recommend.
Honestly, Prof. Cotton is a great professor. Explains work well and will help if you do not understand.
Hes actually an amazing professor, by far my favorite one. The homework assignments are super easy and so are the test. Hes funny and he does an amazing job at actually teaching. I wish I had him for all my other math classes.
In the class it is very important you pay attention and ask questions. If there are no questions class will get out early which is good. All test and homework allow you to have a partner. He is available every night if you have questions, and allows you to earn points back on homework.
Professor Cotton is always willing to help
Professor cotton is an excellent professor. He teaches very well, hes extremely understanding and can help a lot if you need it. Youre allowed to work in groups on everything if you need to as well. He also usually lets class out early which is nice
Pretty chill class just show up, do the work & hell help you make sure you understand it
Professor Cotton is very engaging and makes sure we know where the math we are learning comes from. Just overall a great teacher.
Professor Cotton is a very funny and nice professor. He also is very helpful when you have questions inside or outside of class, and makes sure that everyone understands the topics clearly.
Professor Cotton is one of the best. He is truly caring for the students that want to learn, and tries his best to teach those that don't. If you struggle with math, professor Cotton is a go to for sure because you will come out with a better understanding of the material than you expect.
Professor Cotton is an amazing professor, I highly recommend taking him for any math class he teaches. He will make sure you grasp the topic by giving countless examples to really get you to understand whats going on. Group exams and weekly hw make it very helpful even with a very packed schedule. 20/10 would take again
Lets you work on exams with a partner, homework due weekly, prepares you for future courses.
Prof. Cotton is great, allows Collaborative testing and makes sure you understand the material. If you follow along you will do good in his class.
Professor Cotton is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had. His willingness to help his students and passion for his work makes the class one you'll look forward to whether or not you enjoy the material being taught or not. Truly a great professor.
Professor Cotton was one of my favorite professors this semester. He keeps the class engaging and creates a environment where people are comfortable asking and answering questions. I also like that he does collaborative tests so you can talk things through with a partner.
Amazing if you get the chance to get one of his classes then do it. His classes always fill up really fast, and it is for a good reason. He usually lectures but he does a great job at keeping you interested and engaged. For assignments, he usually has one due each week that doesn't take too long. He is big on helping you answer your own question.
He was extremely helpful whenever someone had a question.
Good teacher, homework about once a week, tests are cooperative.
Professor Cotton is an amazing professor, I love the way he teaches, just show up to class and listen and ask questions.
Probably the best math professor I have ever had. He is very clear when teaching, encourages people to ask questions, if you do not understand something the first time, you will understand it the second time. Required attendance, you email him your homework and he sends you individual feedback. You can have 1 partner on his exams, not the final.
Just go to class and do all of your homework on time and you will be fine. Best professor for this course and other math courses at WIT
Great lectures. Very easy to understand 90% of the time. He's very helpful if you don't get the material and will do his best to help. Understanding if you're sick and can't show up. After class zoom calls if you have questions, need extra help or miss a class.
An absolutely amazing professor who is open and willing to give context and background. Classes based around lectures with homework from the lectures. And occasional group work.
great professor, took cotton for calc 1 and 2, he's a reasonable grader, and wants you to succeed in the class. if you have the opportunity to take cotton, go for it. but, he fills classes quickly so good luck.
Takes attendance every class, tests are completed with one other person, all assignments and due dates are on brightspace and available at the beginning of the semester but does not remind students of due dates in class. Along with once a week homework there is another assignment due at the next weeks first class.
Joseph Cotton is a teacher with a sense of humor and he makes sure his students understands the course. Be sure you choose your partners carefully when doing partner quizzes and group work.
Professor Cotton clearly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. Allows people to work in groups for all homework assignments and in pairs for all the exams other than the final. Homework is turned in over email, so sometimes it can be a little hard to keep track of what you have turned in and what you haven't.
I believe prof. cotton is probably one of the best professor at wentworth. He makes sure that you understand the class and cares about your success. Definitely, take him for calc 1, calc 2 or multivariable calculus
Professor Cotton is a great teacher. He cares about his students and likes to know everybody's name. His lectures are interesting and he gives enough practice problems for you to understand the work. However, if you skip lots of classes he will notice so do not skip lots of classes.
Cotton clearly cares about whether or not you understand the material. He takes time in class to make sure everyone gets it and creates an environment where everyone feels comfortable asking questions. Highly recommend.
Professor Cotton is the best professor I have ever had! He makes sure everyone understands the material, he is available after class, coursework is manageable and his lectures are always interesting. Even if you don't understand something, he always has multiple ways of explaining things. Don't hesitate to choose him as your professor!
Professor Cotton is an engaging lecturer that cares about his student's success.
Joey cotton is a goat, blesss up. Love that man
Professor Cotton is a worthwhile professor!!! Take him if you can! His class fills up during course registration, so make sure you wake up early and be ready to click the button. He was my 8 am class and worthwhile. Again, his class fills up quickly, be prepared to set your schedule and backup plan beforehand. God bless you!
This professor is hands down the best at Wentworth. He grades more off you actually learning the process and the WHY to a problem rather than just googling the solution. You will leave this class feeling as if you learned how to solve a new real-world problem. He does have a lot of homework and 2 projects but they are not too bad.
Professor Cotton is a very smart man, and he is great at teaching. He constantly makes sure to ask the class if they understand what he is saying or not. Tests will usually have a study guide.
youre lucky if you get him
I had so many gaps before taking his class and somehow, he managed to fill those gaps while teaching new things. He is an amazing teacher that is ready to help you with your homework even on WEEKENDS that meant a lot to me, and he is always there to help. And not tough on grading he acknowledges your effort and will help you with ANY questions.
Prof. Cotton is one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He was easygoing and strict at the same time and was very understanding to most everything you told him. He is an excellent teacher, going at whatever pace the class needs to make sure they knew what they were doing and understood the content. 10/10 would recommend and would take again.
Professor Cotton is by far my favorite math professor. He is very helpful and understanding and makes many efforts to help students out of class as well. He's funny and great at teaching calculus so that you understand it.
Prof. Cotton is the best professor that Wentworth has, he cares about his students and always puts in extra effort to explain and help out. All projects make sense, and tests have no surprises on what it will have on it.
Genuinely the best Professor at Wentworth. Overall best math instructor I have ever had - Prof Cotton explains concepts in calculus that make understanding the material much easier. It had been YEARS since I took Calc I at another school and I had absolutely no problem with this Calc II course. Seriously, this Professor is the best.
Amazing Professor. He taught very well and gave feedback on every homework assignment and explained how you could do better. Lots of group work. Clear grading.
would definitely take again
Professor Cotton is the best professor I've ever seen at Wentworth. His classes are very easy to follow and even if you're stuck or confused, he's very easy to talk to and ask for help. 1000/10 would always recommend
Joesph Cotton is a legend among WIT teachers. As someone who normally struggles in math classes, I came in worried about the course and left it with a wider understanding of not only Multi, but also my previous math courses which I was struggling with while I was in them. He's extremely helpful and available if you need help during office hours
This Professor is one of the best professors to take any Calc class at Wentworth. Took him for Calc 1 and 3. His lectures are clear and concise and his office hours are very helpful to individual needs on the course. He is very understanding of anyone's situation. 10/10 would take it again (because I have lol).
Prof Cotton was just not my favorite, I was really excited to take him because of how popular his classes on campus are. I just don't think his teaching style lines up with my learning style. He doesn't usually finish whole problems on the board and introduces new concepts through homework, yet grades for accuracy which I didn't love.
Definitely the greatest professor in all of human history outside of Plato. Made calc 3 seem easy, his lectures make sense and he makes a great effort to keep everyone on board using real-life situations. Homework is heavy but due dates are fluid and he lets you edit your answers based on his feedback up until it's due
Prof Cotton uses a textbook but he gives it to you for free. There is a short homework due twice a week. The lectures are clear and he sends the notes after class. He is very accessible outside of class. There are a few Matlab projects and exams are done in pairs. He is focused on your success as a student. 10/10 professor would take again.
Best calculus professor ever had in college! Professor Cotton is willing to help you anytime and replies to your email fast. Most assignments are straight forward if you pay attention in class. He also posts the notes after every class. Flexible with due dates. Wish I had him for my other calculus classes.
Best professor at Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Professor Cotton really knows his stuff! He broke down the Multivariable Calc material into digestible pieces and I felt super confident when taking his exams. I think he does a really good job at preparing students for exams and projects, and he is super responsive when you have questions/need help. 10/10 would take his class again!!!
Phenomenal professor! Professor Cotton has a passion for the material and seeks to see all students find comprehension and meaning.
Great professor and a great guy. He made the class enjoyable and easy to comprehend and I was in the 8 am class. I would 100% take him again without any hesitation.
Professor Cotton is a good teacher who loves what he is doing. He gives a lot of HW which makes you stay on top of your work. There is no Final exam, but multiple projects. You teach how to apply the math material to real life examples and problems. Recommend to take him to truly understand math.
Pretty good teacher over all, can give a lot of hw, usually 3 a week each hw being 1-2 pages. Wish he gave practice problems for test/quizes. I'd take him again.
I would definitely take him again!
This professor is very good at understanding how to lay out his lectures to get the most out of them, and material gets covered very quickly. Most exams are partner based exams. Only tough thing is that the homework often covers material that is more difficult than what was presented in lectures. So make sure you are ready for challenging homework.
Always engaging with the class and explained very clearly, but if you have trouble with a concept, he'll definitely explain again. The homework is fairly easy, and he'll often let you know of your mistakes if you submit before the deadline, and you can fix your errors. Most exams can be done with a partner in class. Overall, he's highly recommended
one of the best professors. I have never heard anyone talk bad about him for any class. a lot of homework, due dates flexible. Attendance 100% mandatory, but you will be getting something out of every class. Plenty of real world application through projects, and Extra credit opportunities. He truly enjoys his job and understands his students.
Professor Cotton will push you to your limits (pun intended), instead of giving your formulas to practice with, he will slowly go over concepts to get the class to come to these conclusions before he does. The homeworks almost always have examples that weren't covered in class, but they force you think outside of the box and apply your knowledge.
Great Professor, teaches topics very well and explains things clearly
Professor Cotton was one of the best teachers I've had at Wentworth. He made this course more about understanding than about just doing it. He applies the work we do to real situations whether it be on the test, homework or lecture which makes it easier to understand. Definitely recommend taking his class if given the chance.
Great teacher, brings humor into the class while giving clear examples and ideas of the content to help you get a better understanding.
Great Professor, teaches topics very well and explains things clearly
Cotton is very good at explaining things differently if a student does not understand it the first time. This is helpful when you have to visualize an equation. He is always willing to give extra help on any homework assignment. If you submit the homework early he will correct it but you have time to go in and make corrections before it's due.
Professor Cotton was a really great professor he made understanding the topic a lot easier than other professors would have. He also was really great at relating our topics to the real world.
Great guy. Better teacher.
This professor is very engaging in the classroom and encourages participation among students by asking them questions, asking them to elaborate and if they understand certain aspects of the course. Cotton does a great job creating a stimulating environment and I would definitely recommend him for this course specifically.
Gives a great perspective on math concepts and provides a new way of looking at problems. Lots of work but well worth it.
Overall, really good! Wish the HW was a little more structured so it would correlate with the lectures.
the bees knees if I do say so myself
Joseph Cotton is a great mathematics professor because of how clear he teaches the material. If you do not understand something, he will reteach it to you in a more simplified and clear way to better understand it. His exams are straight forward, they pretty much replicate what goes on in and class and homeworks and his projects are simple.
Very easy to understand and is okay with late work. Always willing to help and explain anything you don't understand if you are willing to put in the effort to do better.
Professor Cotton is a phenomenal professor who cares about each student and takes his time explaining topics in Multivariable Calculus. His grading policy involves three main exams, MATLAB projects, and homeworks that are laid out in the syllabus. Overall, a great professor and a shame that he will be departing Wentworth soon.
He does a great job of explaining the concepts learned in a way that you can understand and remember. He is also very good at preparing you for exams by telling you concepts that you should study.
The best professor at Wentworth by a mile.
The teaching style is mostly lectures, he encourages students not to take notes unless they feel like they need them since he wants you to pay attention more and the slides will be emailed to you after the lecture. He gives a lot of examples on how subjects are applied in the real world and demonstrates how topics work together. Highly recommended.
Prof. Cotton is great and will make it easy for you to succeed in the class. Only thing that I do not like is the homework style. Homework assignments are due a couple weeks after the material is taught, so you are often left with figuring things out on your own which can lead to more confusion, and you can get behind.
Overall, I would say that Professor Cotton is a great professor, while the main difficulty of the course tends to come from the material itself, but as long as you pay attention and do your work, it should be fairly simple to earn a passing grade.
he is a great Professor. I've learned a lot from him. one of my favorite professors.
Professor gives ample opportunities to improve your grade.
Amazing professor. Really funny and can teach really well. Would 100% take him again if I could.
Explains concepts clearly and concisely, gives good examples, explains how content applies in the real world.
This professor is dedicated to his students, yet also passionate about the subject matter being taught. He has a good sense of humor, makes an effort to learn not only students' names but something about them personally. If you need Multivariable Calculus, this is the professor you want.
An amazing Professor who is true to himself and his students.
Amazing professor. I've taken him for both Calc 2 and Multi-Variable Calc and I can easily say he's the best math professor i've ever had. He is classes are hard, but fair. If you show up to class, ask questions and complete all the assignments you will pass with an A or B
He is very accessible outside of class and is helpful with any questions. His lectures are easy to follow and checks for understanding throughout.
Professor Cotton is a great math teacher. His classes are challenging but fair. Using unstuckstudy ai alongside the free textbook really helped me stay on top of the material. Definitely take this class if you can.
Fair grader, show up to class and you will succeed
He started the semester off by saying that it's impossible to fail his class and it's literally true. He allows you to submit homework ahead of time to get corrections and still get full credit after correcting your work. Very good professor that wants his students to succeed.
Professor Cotton's a great guy who loves to teach. Personable with students and loves a good laugh. He broke down concepts in small sections, making lectures short and understandable. His teaching style is different than I've had before, more application stuff and getting you to understand what your actually doing and why. Overall great professor.
The teaching style was easy. The content was easy to learn.
The professor cares about the students understanding of the subject. Lectures only take an hour at most, and each lecture is about one subject. He is a great professor and is pretty funny
Professor Cotton is great with how he teaches and interacts with the class. He does his best to make sure everyone is on the same page during his lectures because of this they are rather engaging. He also does a great job of filling in gaps from other classes, and making sure students understand the concept behind the mechanics of the math.
Amazing professor Takes his time to get students to understand the material, many examples are given in class and extremely accessible outside of class by office hours and email. Great philosophy in teaching - more difficult to fail the course than it is to pass - very understanding and kind 10/10 would take again
Exams are straightforward and you get to work with others to complete them. All assignments are useful to prepare for the exams, and lectures help understand 3D space. Cotton helps simplify the 3D concepts with many examples and real world understandings.
Lectures are great and professor Cotton provides many examples of topics were learning. If you pay attention in class, do the homeworks and the projects, you will succeed in this class. Two out of three of the exams were with partners/groups which was great!
Gives real life examples to make lectures easier to understand. Wants everyone in class to succeed.
Really cares about the students understanding of the topic. He doesn't just throw equations at you he explains what the equations are in a simple way and practical applications. Any of the homeworks that were turned in early would be graded the same if not next day with feedback and a chance to correct any mistakes, very fair tests.
By far one of the best professor at Wentworth! His lectures are easy to understand, homework are a bit tough but overall amazing professor
Mr. Cotton is by far the best professor at this school. He takes his lectures nice and slow and makes sure that everyone understands what's going on. He is always ready to answer questions and makes the lectures very fun and enjoyable. If you are taking Multivariable Calculus you need to take this professor.
Professor Cotton was by far one of my favorite professors at Wentworth. The lectures were very engaging and fun to be at. The tests are with a partner and he prepares you in a way for success. Would definitely take him again.
Fair grader, explains topics well in class, gives opportunities to improve homework grades, paired exams/projects
He is very adamant about you understanding the material. His lectures are very straight forward, and he makes them easy to understand. His homework's are with partners as well as some of his tests. He is a very good and kind teacher that wants you to learn the material. I would recommend him to other students.
He is a great professor! I fell behind due to my mental health, and he worked with me to get all my work passed in. He is very kind and understanding. His lectures are a little all over the place at first, but eventually you get used to the pacing and he is just really great. :)
I took Cotton for multivariable calculus and he was incredible. His lectures are concise and to the point, so I personally absorbed all the content very well. There are quite a few homework assignments, but he provides excellent feedback for corrections. Really cares about his students, plus he gives paired exams!
I took Cotton for Multivariable Calculus and overall, he was the best math professor I've had. His lectures provided you with just the right amount of information that you need, without overwhelming you. He always made sure that everyone in the class was engaged and understanded the material. I would highly recommend taking his course!
Professor is very friendly and helpful. Most assignments including projects and tests can be completed with a partner. recommended to go to as many lectures as possible as most material taught in class isn't posted in the online classroom. Teaches the material well, and is very humorous.
Professor Cotton is a great professor. He is very nice and always willing to help. He offers two types of office hours for extra assistance: Zoom office hours and in-person office hours. He also assigns group projects and group homework, which is great because you get to work with a partner. I would definitely take him again.
Great professor!
Really great professor who truly cares about the course and the students. Lectures were very enjoyable and makes learning simple.
Does a really good job making sure everyone understands. If you don't, ask and he will explain. Does a good job reteaching material from previous classes.
Would take again in a heart beat. Loved the way he presented the class and executed the lessons.
Super kind and caring professor! Lectures were engaging and fun to follow along with. He really took the time to explain each concept, made sure you understood the material, and overall made it easy to learn in his class. Highly recommend taking him for multivariable calc or any other math course!!
Professor Cotton is very kind and patient. His explanations and work are easy to follow. He is passionate about you truly understanding the content. Would highly recommend this professor.
He feels like a highschool teacher in the way that he knows every students name and make sures that you understand the material by going over what you did last class the class after.
Cotton is best!
DO NOT BELIEVE ANYONES REVIEW!!!!! I fell for it and I had a year of teaching myself, going to useless lectures, and having homework's nothing similar to classwork. He wastes your time the entire class, barely doing two examples where he doesn't teach a formula or a process- just does examples but DOESNT finish solving them. AVOID TAKING HIM.
I am taken back by the number of good ratings for him because he genuinely forced me to teach myself. Topics were not explicitly explained in class, and he never gave a single formula. Homework due dates were ahead of what we were "learning" in class, and it is extremely hard to complete rpoblems that have never been shown in lecture.
He does not even know how to use Brightspace. Horrible teacher! We have to send all assignments through email. You won't even know your grade in the class until your final grade because grade are not portrayed at all throughout the semester.
I really wish I could give him a good rating because he's a nice guy, but he genuinely is the worst teacher I've had in my entire life. I maybe learned three useful things the entire year, the rest was self taught.
He is not returning because the school isn't even giving him a job back. Classes hardly last an hour. He goes so slow and stares at people and stands over them until they respond. Very uncomfortable environment.
HE SUCKS.. he is the worst professor and I want my money back for taking this class. I almost cried in class one time when he came up to me behind my shoulder and whispered at me that I was doing the problem wrong. He stood behind me while I struggled to do the problem because he legit gave us a problem on the board that he has NOT taught yet.
This professor makes the class environment so uncomfortable, and I was scared to even talk to him. His ego is crazy, and he actually thinks he is the best, I wouldn't be surprised if he went on here and rated himself all of these good ratings. He is bad at teaching, and the school isn't letting him teach again. He is a narcissist
Don't trust rate my professor. His teaching style is not great. He doesn't usually finish whole problems on the board and introduces new concepts through homework. But still grades based on accuracy... even when giving new concepts never before seen in class. He struggles to teach full concepts.
This teaching style just did not work for me.
This was not a great class for him to teach, I wouldn't take him, I would suggest take literally anyone else. I had to teach myself.
This class was just not for me. His teaching style didn't work with my learning style.
Let's just say I'm worried for the entire class on this final. If you don't genuinely try to teach yourself the material, you will struggle.
He gave a final for the first time because the school made him and he did not prepare us well for it at all (since all the muti kids take it) Group tests are pretty easy but just wait til the end of the semester. Lectures didnt do much to help
Really nice guy to be fair. Would recommend taking him his syllabus is pretty is good and probably the best you are gonna get at a class of this rigor. Cares about this students nice guy give you feedback honestly don't know why people are complaining since there are collaborative exams. And homeworks also play significant part in your grade.
People are being dramatic. I took the class, asked questions, did the work, and enjoyed it. You'll only struggle if you try to memorize instead of understand—he's concept-heavy but explains well when asked. The Brightspace complaints are overblown; he graded fast. I just wish the study guides were more helpful, but the exams were like the homework.
if you're registering for classes don't listen to the 1 star reviews, its prob just 1 dude who got a bad grade. Cotton is a great professor and a great person as well. Unique teaching style but will help you understand the professor better than other professors imo. Just wish his study guides were a little better but the tests are like the hw soooo
