nice prof--needs work on class work
wierd!!!!!
Nice guy. Deserves more smileys!

He is a very weird guy but is fun and keeps u interested. He's a really hard grader, but in the end he helps you. Your final grade is based on if you have improved not what you got on your essays.
WEIRD but nice guy, takes a long time to hand papers back but let's you do re-writes. NO FINAL EXAM!!!!
very nice, take this guy if you have other hard classes because i only wrote 2 papers the whole semester and had a chance to revise both of them.
tries to be funny but its nice, says a few wrong things here and there, but wants you to do well and lets u re write essays.

Should be teaching Star Wars 102, instead. However, easy class with hardly any work
Nice guy, iff topic class discussions, hard grader. My only problem with him was that I expressed my nothern views too much to him and he has this southern pride which just totally kills the good parts of his personality.
marry me mr davis!!!!
The easiest english class you'll ever take...Lectures consist of talking about current events, and there are about 2-3 easy essays you have to write. Funny teacher, bit off topic, easy, easy class.
Take. This. Class. This guy is hilariously funny and really helpful, plus he's just a super nice guy. He is without a doubt the best English teacher around.
The WORST teacher EVER! Very inconsistent with grading & assignments! Goes off topic during every class. Talks about nonsense instead of teaching. WASTE OF MONEY!!!!
Save your time and money for a professor that deserves it. Its obvious based on his personal appearence and by the words that come out of his mouth that he has no idea what he is doing. Sitting through his class was nothing less than pure idiotic torture.
He is a very helpful and nice teacher. All thru the semester he assisted me and helped me do this course. He is very friendly and jolly person. He has simple grading system.
Great Guy, helpfull, polite, charming... odd sence of humor.
Guys, let's be serious. English is a Gen Ed. Do yourself a favor. Take Davis! I got a C on one paper and a B minus on another. I told him that he needs to give me an A. He did. End of story. Funny guy, easy class and the fact that he's a **** doesn't hurt
This guy is a wack job. The class may be easy but take it only if you are willing to sit through an immmensely boring lecture. All the guy talks about is movies and weird music- he really needs to get a life. BUt the class is relatively easy if you can get over his weirdness.
MR DAVIS SUCKS! HE IS THE WORST TEACHER EVER. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
easiest english class u can take...you only have to write 3 essays the whole semester. you can get into some crazy discussions in this class
davis is awesome...just do the work, but even if you dont you'll realize he's still a cool guy
This guy is a weirdo obsessed with Star Wars, but very laidback. Nice guy, but he gave me a C- despite good attendance and decent grades :(
easiest english class EVER. he's very laidback. makes you feel like you were in high school again. u have 3 essays to write and if you mess up you can re-write them and turn them in again. he is a bit of a weirdo and most of class you talk about random things.
I know you're reading this J.D.! You class is fun, but still educational. Still an easy class, but I recommend everyone to take him! He's greaT!
I actually enjoyed this class. Davis is really cool, makes his students comfortable & doesn't talk down to them. Grades your papers pretty tough the first time you turn them in but you get to re-write them as many times as you want to get a better grade. Def. recommend this class to anyone
Davis is so crazy that it was a pleasure to go to class. The three essays weren't too hard. Tough grader though. Just fix them when you get them back and hand them back in and you should be fine. Overall he's a really great guy, helpful, and fun to talk to. Ask for his "History of 4/20" Lecture.
Mr. Davis Kiks ASS-- i think i only missed one class because its the only class that you will actually look forward to going to- no tests, and the essays aren't bad as long as you revise- TAKE THIS CLASS you won't regret it- Coolest guy ever!!
Davis is the BEST! He's very funny and very interesting. This isn't even like an english class. We sit n talk about funny crap for like and hour then spend 15 minutes on actual work. No tests, a few essays(rough grader but gives u a lot of opportunities for revisions), journals...easy stuff.
Worst teacher in my college career. An embarrassment to Towson U. He is COMPLETELY unprofessional, disorganized, his grades are subjective and nonsensical. He is lazy, procrastinates, our whole class got screwed bc he waited too long to grade papers and we suffered and stressed bc of his "issues".
His class if very easy. He is a very social person. Dont come to class thinking you are going to get one of those average boring uptight teachers becuase he is the opposite extreme. Do the work which really isn't due until the end of the year. You must to the essays which he lets you revise as many times as you need. Its really an easy A.
Easy class, grades hard in the beginning but gives an A for a hard effort. Despite the easiness and simple assignments, he is very disorganized and totally off the wall. As long as you can deal with how non-relevant and sometimes stupid comments, you'll be fine!
joe davis is the best teacher at towson and has awesome taste in music. hes in nerdy and cool at the same time. class is easy and funnnn i didnt want to miss a class. joe money, i know youre reading this. you are the coolest!
This man is brilliant, funny, and helpful. You will never find a better teacher than Professor Davis. Anybody looking for an ENGL 102 teacher should jump at the chance to be in his class, it's wonderful.
He is really good teacher. He give unlimited times of sumition of paper. You can change ur grade by changing stuff in ur paper before final exams. Have to do howmework. His home work is clear and easy. He is very helpful. Loves to crack jokes but very good in teaching. He looks at our effort made in class more than anything else.Best ever teacher.
davis=awesome prof. he grades your papers hard, but only bc he wants you to do your best. infinite number of submissions though... so if you want a good grade, you have all the opportunity to do so. additionally, class is interesting. lots of free writes and sharing. if you are shy, i would not recommend this guy.
JD kicks serious ass.
Teacher doesn't grade fairly. Perhaps a slight fear that you may be smarter than him. Grades not based on quality of work, but arbitrary means meant to encourage repeated submissions.
Davis is awesome!!! This class was the best class that i have taken at towson. He grades hard on your essays b/c he wants you to do well. You can resubmit the essays as many times as you want though.
This class is pretty easy, 5 essays with very interesting topics which was really cool. Lets you make as many revisions as you want. He grades hard as first but if you correct all of your mistakes you'll be fine.
There are five papers on interesting topics and he lets you turn them in as many times as you want to improve your grade so don't be upset if you get a poor grade the first time. Attend class for lectures and for free writes. There is no final, but you hand in a final portfolio. Great teacher and great sense of humor...enjoy!
He is young, funny, outgoing, and can keep your attention for class. There are 5 papers on fun topics and he will let you turn them in to improve your grades. Get the books required as you will use them. I recommend him to anyone!
Nice teacher- really helpful. Class was good- kept it interesting. Only 4 papers which you could correct and get better grades on- no tests!!. Would take again!
Great Personality, which made class fun. He's very easy going and laid back, and always willing to help. There are only five essays with interesting topics, and for the final you just hand in a portfolio of all your work. Fantastic teacher, I highly recommend him :).
You'll most likely fail your first paper. BUT, don't worry! You get to redo it, which is awesome because you learn from your mistakes. You have 4 papers, few compared to other english profs. Its really pretty easy, just make sure you take advantage of redoing your papers. Hes a bit disorganized sometimes, w/e. NO TESTS, not even a final! I RECOMMEND
he lets you re do your papers the topics are pretty interesting
He is easy because all he does is talk. but he grades extremely hard for no apperent reason. I do not like him because even though he wants us to do our best, giving us a low grade jsut to show effort is redundent and stupid.
I really enjoyed this class. He was helpful with essays and didn't overload us with work. I learned a lot yet still had fun in his class. I would definitely recommend him!
This is a writing class, and your writing will be graded harshly. Get over it. You will have 3-4 essays. All except the final essay, you will be able to rewrite as many times as you would like. Professor Davis would like you to improve as a writer, plain and simple. The class structure is a little looser - writing exercises, discussions, and blah.
Goes off topic a lot; interesting guy. Gave a few essays. Graded a bit hard, but you're welcome to rewrite them as many times as you'd like.
Class is really simple. attendence is mandatory even though there is no point in going. Only have a few papers (4-6) and no other projects. a couple out of class assignments. Essays are topics that i actually care to write about and he doesnt seem to grade too hard. I'd recommend taking him for english
This class was so much fun.. the one class that i actually enjoyed going to.. Mr. Davis is an awesome guy and a great teacher.. all we did in class was talk about current events and interesting topics.. we had about 4 papers which all the topics were interesting to write about.. i highly recommend taking this teacher hes great
this class was the best! It was so much fun and Prof Davis is awesome. the discussions were fun and only wrote about 3-4 papers which were on interesting topics. not a single test and there's no final! HIGHLY RECOMMEND! you wont regret it
I'd recommend, but only cause he's easy. Show up to class, and listen, and you'll do fine. We only wrote three papers and one was a final group paper. Spends the whole class talking about current events, and if you're easily offended like I am, sit in the back and doodle. Got a b+, not a bad class.
very funny teacher. prints out notes for class. His grading can be a bit tough.
Take this class. Very entertaining. Hes a mix between drew carey and peter griffen. Sings and makes weird jokes. Hands out notes so you don't really have to pay attention but you have to go. Can revise any paper as many times as you want. Take this class!
Enjoys torturing you by making you attend his class where he can just talk on and on about useless things.. Although i hated it I ended up learning a lot due to his harsh grading style.. fun class , pretty easy, nice guy who wants a girlfriend! he sings and will make you laugh... a lot
This was my favourite class my first semester and the only one I NEVER skipped! Davis only assigns 4 essays that are all on very interesting subjects. In class he discusses current issues and it is awesome! He was the first person I've ever been able to discuss the symbolism in Marilyn Manson songs with. TAKE HIS CLASS!!
He talks about current events and his life during class. 4 essays and you can rewrite them and rewritign them means just making the corrections he marked on your paper. Very easy, fun and funny.
Definitely the most hilarious professor I've ever had. This class is extremely entertaining. I'm glad I got his class!
He's really funny and sings a lot! A good choice for an english teacher. The essays are all on interesting topics and he'll let you rewrite them if necessary. Lectures are pretty boring, but overall it's an easy class.
This class was so boring, I dreaded it everyday. He is funny, but if you're an English major and actually want to learn something, don't take his class. I did not learn a single thing, and he literally talks about nothing.
Easy class but a complete waste of time. He didn't teach anything, the only reason I went to class was to get the essay assignments. Lets you rewrite papers but he takes forever to grade.
Easy Class. Let's rewrite papers, but takes forever to grade. Do not take if you want to learn anything. Incredibly boring and always off topic. Spends most classes talking about pop culture references and how he wishes he was a stand up comedian. Too bad he's not funny.
Makes inappropriate jokes and makes me very uncomfortable. Dreaded going because I hated making eye contact with that man.
This man is hilarious. He took a class like English and made it somewhat interesting by referencing a lot of pop culture and society. He may not have it all together but I really enjoyed his class. He makes funny jokes and is on the younger side so he can relate to the kids in his class. Only grades are essays and he gets them back to you late.
Class can be interesting sometimes, but often feels repetitive. Only grades are short homework assignments and essays on interesting topics. A lot of his papers involve writing about yourself which is a nice change from researching random topics. Outside assignment is to read a book of your choice and keep a journal for it. TAKE HIM! EASY A
At first he is bearable and he completely slacks off by making everything about himself and inappropriate. He fails everyone in the first paper to make a statement and often writes offensive statements that people take personally. If you want a semi-entertaining class take him, but expect you to sit there and say what is he on
Spends much of the class time making awkward "jokes" referring to pop culture that just don't work out at all. He lets you redo your essays (the only real grades), but don't expect to get a good grade with your first draft. He has very strong opinions about certain topics and often talks about them all class; Don't take if you are easily offended.
He gives no guidance in the class and expects you to know that you're supposed to keep every single thing you write in the class, no matter how small without telling you. He lets you rewrite your papers but even after rewriting them all to Bs or better I ended up with a C in the class. Trust me, do not take this class. It's boring and he's awful.
Mr. Davis does not deserve to be a professor. If you want to talk about pop culture and hear bad jokes, save your tuition money and just hang out with your friends. This man is an embarrassment to TU. He wastes time that should actually be spent teaching. While this may be entertaining to some, it's an injustice to those who want or need to learn.
This class is so easy because you get to rewrite your papers as many times as you want to, BUT he is annoying. Shows up late every class, goes off topic. returns our papers late, has horrible jokes and he is just plain weird. He uses vulgar language all the time! Take him for the easy A, not because you want to have discussions with him!!
Mr.Davis was a great teacher it blows my mind that people have so many negative things to say about him on here because he does not deserve it. Hes nice, funny, and yes vulgar but that's because hes trying to relate to us as students. who complains about having an easy class? 4 papers and a little homework easy class, great teacher take him!
Mr. Davis was my favorite professor this semester. Don't listen to any of the negative comments on here. Not only is he easy, but as long as you go to class, and participate in his class discussions you will get a good grade! He may be a little strange at first but he is awesome! Highly recommend taking his class
If you don't mind having the reincarnated Peter Griffin (from Family Guy) as a teacher then take him. He can be nice, funny, vulgar. He talks a lot about his creepy personal life and is stuck in the 80s. I wrote 4 essays on weird topics you can rewrite for a better grade. Little homework. Just attend class. Didn't learn anything but got an A.
The greatest professor i have ever had. 4 essays. 16 Journal entries. Go to class, do you work. Its not hard, and he is very entertaining. would not recommend anyone else for Eng 102.
This is such a worthless class. He definitely gives you low scores on essays when it is not deserved to 'make a statement' & it's funny because you can just rewrite them for As. This class is such an easy A & it's nice writing about topics you choose but he isn't funny & is ill-qualified in my opinion. Don't take it with him if you want to learn.
This class is boring and you learn nothing. If you want four easy essay's and some journals, go for it. However, he isn't grading you on what YOU write, he is grading you on what he WANTS you to write. I sat with him and he was trying to tell me what he wanted in MY essay. You will NOT be graded fairly on your thoughts if they don't match his.
Liked this class at first. Soon became irritated. Seems like he's more focused on himself than anything - does nothing but tell his life story, pretend to be a stand-up comic, and attempts singing. I have learned nothing and would prefer to skip this class every day if it were possible. You will groan at bad jokes almost as frequently as you blink.
Compared to every other english class I've heard about taking english with Davis seemed to be the easiest. I was only assigned 3 papers the whole semester. No homework for this class whatsoever. He does take attendance every class but I don't believe it affects your grade. He tries to be funny sometimes and he's really corny but I would take again.
While it's not like you wouldn't pass if you skip classes, attendance counts some portion of your grade. His grading criteria is very confusing and he always hand back papers late. He gives us some extra day to turn in the papers when that happens though. I'd have to agree with others that he doesn't give feedbacks for the essays.
He writes a script as to what his lecture will be. He likes to sing and wears Hawaiian shirts. He is very unclear as to what he wants out of assignments. If you don't say what he wants to hear in papers, it's wrong. Very tough paper grader. I have always done well in English until his class. Very boring class.
He is not a bad guy. He is usually at least five minutes late to every class. Do not expect any classes to be canceled. Also usually uses the entire period. His lectures suck and are extremely boring. He just reads from a script. His attendance is mandatory. youll pass If you go to class and put in a lot of effort on essays, exams and read the book
Mr. Davis was my first teacher in college. Needless to say, if I didn't know Towson had better professors, I would have ran away from Towson. Definitely unclear, just loves to chat about karaoke and the bar he bounces at, and his thesis statements are going to confuse you to no end. I have a feeling my A was because of a major curve. Awful...
Professor Davis' rubric is amazingly unclear and, in addition to being a tough grader, he rarely provides feedback. His lectures are long and boring, but he is funny at times in between all of the awkward silences in the class. The one positive is that you rarely are assigned papers and they are not long, but he never puts anything on Blackboard
Tough grader in essays, and the percentage on essays are higher than the tests. Definitely go to the writing center if you want at least a B+ on every essays. The exams? Decently easy. Small homework for completion grades. Don't waste money on a textbook. Just only novel.
Waited till the last week to assign a bunch of essays. Doesn't give above a B on essays. Scripted lectures and curses the whole time. Thinks he's funny but he's just rude and annoying. Waste of time and money.
BS. I spent over $50 dollars on a "required" MLA book. It was not used once through out the school year! He is one critical tough cookie grader. The lecture itself is him just taking for an hour and trying to be funny. I rather take notes everyday in another English course and getting graded for my HARD WORK. I feel like this course is pointless.
Waits till the end of semester to get essays completed to produce grades.
You will definitely have a certain first impression about the guy after day one of class. That impression will change after you get the grade for your first essay back. I was able to do most of his assignments in one or two days before the due date. If you participate in class, your final grade should be about a letter above your essay average.
He is loved at Stevenson! He is a little quirky but discussions are fun and class is worth going to. He does wait a bit to grade papers but if you consider how many papers he has to do it its understandable. I loved the fact that we did a discussion on books like Fear and Loathing, it was refreshing after Joyce and Shakespeare all the time.
Pretty weird guy, funny at times. He often gets off topic when giving lectures. The workload isnt too bad but he is a tough grader, rarely gives As. He keeps class interesting but his sense of humor is not for everyone. Wears the same thing every class. Rarely updates blackboard but he gives papers back in a decent amount of time.
Lectures are extremely random, sometimes you'll end up talking about a random event for the entire class. He has 4 essays that had easy topics, but he's a tough grader. He graded my essay while I was in his office and gave me a B, even though he made no corrections to my essay. You wont know your grade the entire semester, he doesnt use blackboard
Always at least 10 minutes late to class. Wears the same outfit everyday. Uses extreme profanity in lectures for no reason. Lectures are not relevant to what we should be learning. Even though we don't learn anything in class, he grades essays extremely hard. Rarely gives A's because he says, "Rarely are college essays 'A' worthy."
Honestly? He's a pretty easy teacher. He rarely gives homework and it's about 5% of the total grade. He tries to make the class entertaining and it doesn't work, but he tries. He doesn't respond to emails quickly so let's hope it's not an emergency. His lectures can get boring especially since notes aren't in class.
he makes class entertaining with going off topic but show up to class for at least a B+. and take notes on everything he says.
I haven't known my grade the entire semester. Doesn't use Blackboard. Unless you want to listen to a professor talk about his various conspiracy theories and his side karaoke job, I wouldn't recommend him. Shows up late every single day wearing the same outfit. As far as work, there's 4 papers, some quizzes, and a reading journal. Slept mostly.
Class was fairly simple and kinda boring but he tried to make it fun by cracking jokes . Grading criteria was made clear and understandable. Wastes class time by telling jokes but that honestly wasn't a problem for me but if you're not into that then I don't advise that you take the class. Only had 4 essays(3 pages each) ,2 easy quizzes, & entries.
The class was not terrible because he tried to make it fun by telling jokes. He spent most of time trying to get us prepared for writing essays and citing. Although he tried going over everything, lectures were sometimes boring and unnecessary. He was a tough grader on essays. He was lenient with deadlines.
I do not suggest this guy. He does not use blackboard at all and does not teach at all. He gets very off topic. He only talks about things he wants to talk about. Hes kind of a smart ass. He was late numerous times & simply didnt show up 2 times. The class is easy to pass but its dreadful and seems pointless to even go.
kind of a funny guy, but he grades essays way too hard, and takes off points for the littlest of things now i'm nervous that this class might mess up my GPA all because of one bad grade on a essay
Professor Davis is a really chill guy and ever since our first encounter he's always been super welcoming and understanding. He loves talking about this love for movies, animations, singing, etc. Occasionally he would even sing for us LOL. The workload for his class is reasonable and I never stressed the work assigned - just stay on top of things!
DO NOT TAKE! First of he's always late or cancelling class. His lectures are pointless and super boring. He's chill personally but he hardly ever gives A's . He doesn't reply to emails. He makes stupid jokes. And I took him during covid and he NEVER showed his face. Till this day idek what the man looks like and I've never seen my classmates either
Lectures are really pointless but I go because he might give clearer instructions on assignments, most of time you are just listening to him talk. I took this class during COVID. I have no idea what he or my classmates look like because we never turned the camera on. So far only 3 papers throughout the semester around 3 pages each. Not too bad.
Professor Davis was very bad at responding to emails, he did not give rubrics or grading criteria for papers, his grading didn't make sense he gave B on papers but made no edits or pointed out anything that would've gotten points taken off, he would send out emails canceling class last minute. Classes would be him lecturing random topics.
The class is pretty good for English. 4 papers - 3 of which can be revised. A few take home tests. Read only 1 book in class. The class is not difficult, but grading is very harsh. May not get A on essay for the "first" time, but can earn A after you revise it to address his comments. Workload is extremely bearable. Each class is a lecture.
Very hard grader, that's the biggest thing. He wasn't very available outside of class, and responded to emails very late. He is a genuine fun and caring guy, and he is really funny. Great sense of humor but I wish he went easier on the grading and harder on the participation of people. There were times when half the class skipped. Hard to get an A.
boring all the time. sit around and listen to him talk and spew about random things trying to be funny, whole class is silent.
Funny laid back guy. I did find his humor to be funny most of the time. If you want a laid back teacher who doesn't grade too many things then take him. A few take home tests and 4 essays. Revisions allowed on 3/4. His critiques on your essays can land you a B or an A on it. If there are no critiques ask him directly. Easy A.
Very laid back and chill although he tries to be funny and isn't. Assignments weren't too bad just take home quizzes and essays. His grading is tough but he gives good feedback and lets you redo the essay for the end of the semester. He is late to class a lot and isn't great at answering emails but overall he wasn't that bad.
He's chill & lenient but he gives you 4 essays, 4 exams, & weekly journal entries. The essay prompts are pretty easy but he's a VERY tough grader. He doesn't tell you specifically what he wants out of your essay to get an A. He doesn't use blackboard & you won't know your grade until the end of the semester. He's also late to class every day.
Out of the 5-10 times I actually emailed him, I got one email back + it took him a whole week to respond (after the essay was already turned in.) The classes feel so pointless, especially for a morning class. It's usually just him telling us jokes that don't land or listening to him read off a word document we all already have. He loves karaoke!
He's okay, he makes jokes and basically talks to himself during lecture. There's really no grades besides papers and exams, and he is a tough grader. You don't do anything in class though, so overall it wasn't that hard. A lot of the times the stuff he talked about during lecture was not important whatsoever.
For a class to have mandatory attendance his classes are just a complete waste of time. I took him 8 am, he would not even talk about the topic we were doing in class just talk about random 70s celebrities.Very tough grader, he doesn't even tell you what he wants. But pretty flexible with deadlines.
He really isn't a bad teacher. He is always trying to be funny, and his homework isn't that bad. We barely did anything in class, so it was chill, and he is a nice person.
His grading style will absolutely roast you and your classmates papers, but it is okay because it does help you write better Dude is giga unfiltered & unhinged at times but its mfkin entertaining because its not in an angry way at the class One of my other professors would walk by this class & ask me wtf was going on as well as my classmates lmfao
Mr. Davis is a very good professor his lectures are very intuitive and easy to understand. just make sure you pay attention in class. the work for this course is all done out of class and must turn in physical copies of work for most assignments. there is four essays and four exams for this course including the final exam and essay.
Professor Davis is a decent professor. The class is relatively straightforward, but his grading can be tough. I worked hard to earn an A, but my essays consistently received Bs. Unfortunately, he didn't provide clear feedback on how to improve or what was lacking. Also, some classes felt unnecessary for attendance to be mandatory.
Class was pretty easy if you write essays well. Class time felt like a waste some times because he gets off topic A LOT. I love the teachers sense of humor but most other students don't so the class feels kind of awkward at times.
Isn't a hard class, grading criteria is very clear. Offers re-dos for essays. Goes on tangents a lot and class can get really awkward when his jokes don't hit ( like REALLY awkward ). Does not remind you of assignments due date so be on top of that but can be lenient of late turn ins as long as its within a day or two of due date.
His lectures are boring, dry comedy the whole time, you will need to know how to cite VERY well, other than that its legit just citing and writing essays
A very funny and caring professors! His lectures were kind of boring, but attendance was mandatory. A very easy grader and would extend deadlines if needed. Would absolutely take him again :)
Relatively easy to pass but don't expect an A. Very tough grader for essays and exams and doesn't provide any real valuable feedback for how to improve next time. Lectures also seemed pointless and often unrelated to class material. Very lenient with due dates though and lets you revise your essays.
This class was awful and I would not take it again. Wish I had never taken it. He is an absurdly tough grader on long essays that take forever to write and you have to cite everything PERFECTLY in order to achieve above a C grade.
He is tough grader when it comes to citing ur work so make sure you do it perfectly!!! He tries to be funny… he sang for our class once… and overall makes things awkward sometimes. He's a nice man and has good intentions. Overall pretty easy class, but grading was just harsh sometimes.
Stay away. Incredibly tough grader, doesn't give any helpful feedback. During his lectures he always ends up rambling on about something completely off topic. 4 essays with a correlated take home exam for each. Attendance was recorded.
