Makes the non traditional student feel very intimadated to ask questions. Doesn't explain in detail how to understand the problem.
Nice guy. Test are easy. reviews very well. Have fun
He is always willing to explain mathematical concepts in greater detail. He wants students to truly grasp the ideas presented in the course, but he will not just hand out grades.
enthusiastic about mathematics, clear explanations, always willing to help in or out of class, easily approachable, by far my favorite math prof
I think he is one of the easiest stats profs out there, based on what others have said (and what he has said). He gives lots of extra credit points on the tests so it makes it easier to get a better grade. Do the work though to get a better grade.
Demaio is a cool guy and a good teacher. The only problem is, it is hard to stay motivated in his class. He only takes grades on tests. Overall good teacher, but if you have trouble staying motivated and working hard daily, I suggest you don't take him.
Very fair prof. He gives you plenty of chances to earn extra credit on the tests (usually 15 points per test). Gives you practice tests, and good homework problems. YOU MUST PRACTICE THE HW TO SUCCEED IN THIS CLASS!
Because of Dr.Demaio, this class was a breeze. His notes are very clear, and the practice tests that he gives you are WONDERFUL. Go to class, do the homework and practice tests, and you'll get over a hundred on every test. Take Dr.Demaio if you can, he's great!
For statistics. He is pompous, over-educated and full of himself but he knows it. Allows notecards for formulas on tests, gives representative sample exams before tests for study and practice. Tough material for some, but an easy B if you come to class.
He is a brilliant professor teaching a boring subject and he makes the best of it.
The best of the best. Awesome. You have to take him.
one word EXCELLENT.take his class if you want an A for math. he explain it so easy that you will remember it. and you get to take a cheatsheet on his test.he also talks about the actuall test before the test day. so it is so easy to make an A in his class. no regret if you take him.A++++++++
Great explanations of difficult (for me) concepts. He takes much of the terror out of math for us non-math people. He also has a sense of humor and a nice smile which always helps!
Very dynamic and passionate about the course. Applys useful techniques and relates to everyday situations to understand formulas and techniques. If you come to class you can easily get a B. If you put a little effort, an A can be obtained- even if you don't like math.
He's very thorough at what he teaches. He goes slow and reviews EVERYTHING right before the test. He tells exactly what he expects, and the pre test review questions are almost identical to the real test questions. I slept in class, never opened my book... and my test average was above a 100. I STRONGLY recommend him.
very realistic approach to math. He actually made it somewhat interesting
He is amazing! Great personality too.
Best math prof at KSU. Keeps class interesting with relevant stories. Has excellent, likeable personality, knows the stuff, teaches well, grades fairly.
Easy and even made it interesting considering the subject. Is willing to help and goes out of his way to do so. Very Very Clear. As good a math teacher as possible.
Easy and even made it interesting considering the subject. Is willing to help and goes out of his way to do so. Very Very Clear. As good a math teacher as possible.
He is a joy. Loves math and really seems to love teaching. I'm good at math but have a bit of a block when it comes to the types of 'word problems' inherant in stats. Lectures are fun, clear and he will help if you. Make sure to attend class, study and do homework. Tests are fair. Pay close attention to how questions are worded and u will do well.
If you don't get an A in his class then you are a complete dumbass. Great prof!!!!
Great, great teacher!!! Always willing to talk Math with you. I took him for Calc I, Discrete Math I and II and he was always willing to explain things to you. Has such a passion for teaching and for Math.
I took the class becuz of the ratings. He is somewhat personable but also pompous. If you don't get it he just moves on. Doesn't try other approaches and REFUSED to go over material in his office. It's like, if you don't get it from class, find another way cuz he isn't going to try again.
I took this professor because of the high ratings. He's ok with the way he teaches, but he is not very helpful with one on one sessions with students. Exams were very confusing & tricky. He's also arrogant and insensitive. One time a girl in class asked him to slow down with his explanations and he embarassed her in class for being"slow". So rude.
I hate stats, it's so friggin hard. But he's real helpful, as long as he sees that you're trying. He's super nice. 4 tests, doesn't drop any- which sucks. Other than that, he's cool.
Dr. Demaio's class was the best I could expect for statistics. He is nice, easy to understand, and he posts all notes on his website. Homework is not graded, so you don't really NEED the book but HW helped me a lot. His class is 3 tests plus a cumulative final, each class is lecture w/ powerpoint and group exercises. Tests are all multiple choice.
Demaio makes statistics interesting...well, as interesting as stats can be.Smart guy, he went to Emory. Wish I hadn't missed his lecture on gambling, though. -V
Awesome professor. He likes his subject and he's great at making Stats make sense. I also like that your grade is only based on 4 tests, so no quizzes/projects/etc. Come to class and don't miss the in-class study sessions!
He is a great math professor! I never had a good foundation in math and have always been intimidated by it. He made me feel comfortable and knowledgeable. He is an excellent instructor and breaks things down in a way that is completely understandable. I took him for stats and I would suggest him to anyone & everyone!
Demaio is awesome! He really breaks everything down to make it easy to understand and always gives practice quizzes and tests. The key is to go to class and always use the time he gives on the in-class excercises. While he does not drop a grade he gives extra credit on every quiz and test! I highly recommend Dr. Demaio - you will get an A!
Took his discrete class. Very nice guy, lectures are clear, and he makes it look easy. No attendance policy, but missing class is not an option as many things (proofs especially) he covers in detail in class, but aren't well described the book. So find a study buddy and take good notes. Tests have 20 bonus points built in, and no final exam.
Super-fantastic, wonderful prof! Demaio is extremely patient, and very helpful. You will completely understand statistics by the end of his class, no matter what your math history is. He definitely has a gift for teaching--everyone should take him.
He was great! I got an A on every test but one. Had I done well on that test I would have gotten an A in the class. The more you participate, the more you understand. I really liked prof demaio!!!
Dr. DeMaio is great. His lectures are clear and concise. He's a great teacher and very willing to help. Do your homework and go to class...easy A.
GREAT teacher! Very fair. EAsy to understand. DO YOUR HOMEWORK! I wish that I could take hime again. Not an easy A, but with a little effort you will excel in his class.
Great teacher; explains material very thoroughly. Makes complex ideas seem much simpler. Negatives? Made things up on our final exam (seriously, he walked in and told us not to freak out even though we'd never seen the material before). Is very full of himself, to the point where it hampers his teaching ability.
Best math professor I've ever had. I think it was 5 quizzes 4 tests, and he gives you copies of all old tests and quizzes with solutions. The class was really fun, and he was really interesting. Definitely take it!
He's a really great teacher! He gives you sample tests and quizzes that are pretty much identical to the actual quiz/test. It's not easy material, but he goes slow and makes sure you get it. He doesn't require attendance or homework. It's like he actually treats you like you're in college. I'm not good at math and I made an A.
I would take him again, and I always figured I was math-stupid. He gives sample tests, and allows you to work in groups. His style is unique and very effective. The kiss of death for this class is not showing up though... I missed twice, and had to work to catch up. A good teacher.
GREAT CLASS & PROFESSOR! He gives an unbelievable amount of extra credit, it is almost impossible to fail! At the beginning of the semester he says ANYONE can get an A or B, and that is soooo true! The sample tests are EXTREMELY helpful! Do them and you can seriously get over a 100 on every test and quiz! DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED!
Loved him. One of my favorite teachers of college. I am not a math major which meant this class was a loooooot of work for me. But I went to class and did my homework and got a decent grade. He is always willing to answer questions and he posts previous tests & quizzes and their answer keys. He really made the class interesting!!
he's a great math professor! his tests were just like the study guides. easy. he knows what he's talking about and he knows how to teach it as well. he also allows you to use a note card on each test. take him!
He is clear and tests are just like the study guides but there are group projects that are very annoying. Over all a good teacher and makes the class interesting.
Awesome Professor! I took him over the summer, and made an A. The tests are exactly like the study guides; sometimes the same questions end up on the test. The group projects are annoying, but easy. He relates it to topics like sports. I would definitely take him again!
Wish he taught all of my math classes. Explains lectures in clear way and tests are consistent with what is taught in class. If material doesn't come easy for you, then you need to study bc its easy for some students. Has all old exams on website, tends to use same ? for tests over and over. Website is pretty cool.
I took the sports based statistics class. Because I love sports, the relation between sports and statistics made it much more interesting. There were some lengthy and detailed projects to do, so don't think he's a pushover, but this class rocked!
One of the worst class I took thus far. Summer semester I took it. Easy in the beginning, but tough for no reason towards the end. Take someone else! Group projects was most of the grade! HORRIBLE CLASS & TEACHER! 2 tests, 3 group projects. He is rude and make you feel dumb if you even ask him a question. I have a 3.5 gpa & he slightly ruin it.
DO NOT take this teacher! Especially during the summer. Unless you like and understand sports, love writing essays - yes, essays, and love group projects. The 3 group projects consist of almost HALF of your grade (which is bad if you have slack members). And the projects are SO much work & take up SO time! He is a good teacher, but bad curriculum.
I loved Dr. Demaio. I took him for elementary stats & made an A. He's a really clear teacher & he always explains things well. He doesn't care that much about attendance if you do well and participate. He's always helpful in office hours too. If you pay attention in class and do the homework (it isn't mandatory), you can make an A easily.
Dr. DeMaio is an awesome professor! I was very nervous about having to take Statistics, but that quickly went away. He explains things very clearly and is happy to answer any clarifying questions. Definitely recommend doing the homework. It is not mandatory, but it does help to give practice with the material covered.
Going into this class I was scared because math is not my strongest area but this professor really makes the information easy to understand and is willing to answer any questions that you may have.
Best professor I've had at KSU so far. He manages to be clear in class on very difficult material. He always gets back to emails quickly and is available for office hours (how I passed the class). & all of his test are out of 114 pts. You should definitely take this professor.
Professor DeMaio is the best math professor at KSU! He makes stats interesting with real-world examples and always answers questions in-depth and takes the time to explain anything that you are confused on. There is opportunity for extra credit on every test. There are 5 tests in the class and those are the only grades.
Super nice dude, pretty goofy but what can you expect. Best math teacher i've had at KSU so far. Grading is simple and tests are easy, 10/10 would recommend to a friend.
Professor Demaio was AMAZING! His class is really straighforward and easy to pass. He posts all of his notes online, which is what the classes are based off of, but he takes attendance so if you go to class you'll be fine. He does review sessions before each test. No extra busywork or quizzes which was refreshing among my other work-heavy classes.
I hate statistics - this professor changed my outlook on it. He made the material very easy to understand, and was very helpful in preparing students for exams. All information was on ppts, and homework was optional. He did not make it mandatory, but highly recommended. I was sick for 4 weeks, and he allowed me to make up everything. Very caring
Great professor who actually makes stats understandable for us non math people. He gives bonus points on every test and is always willing to help his students. highly recommend
Hes a good professor, I NEVER went. My grade sorta reflected it. I had an A and when I stopped going I finished with a 80. Hes really laid back and easy to work with.
A good guy and great professor. He loves to help you understand the concepts. He loves questions when you are confused. Eager for your success. 4 tests and a final. nothing else.
He makes stats so so so easy. I hated it in high school but passed so easily here. You can tell he cares so much, and he definitely knows his stuff. And best of all, he knows exactly how to teach it. He makes his own textbook like lessons and posts online, but he explains in class how to exactly do it, so go to class for sure. He's very kind.
Great professor (oops, voluntary bias). Homework isn't mandatory but very recommended if you want a good grade. If you do the homework, you will understand what you are doing. Also if you have questions, if you go to his office hours, he explains very thoroughly. Hard to fail, unless you skip, don't do homework & only show up for tests.
I literally made a 110% in this class. So easy. He makes each test out of over 100% so there's absolutely no reason not to make an A in the class. Super nice professor as well.
DeMaio is a straightforward yet extremely fair professor. Tests are out of more than 100 points, and he allows you to use an index card of notes on each test. Homework isn't required but it is helpful. He is also understanding -- I missed the first test due to a car accident the morning of but allowed me to come in later in the day.
Took him over the summer, he made statistics extremely fun and I would highly recommend him if you are horrible or miserable in math as well! He is very thorough in explaining and if you are still confused he will help! Highly recommend doing the homework even though it's not mandatory. If you stuff work outside of the class, you will be successful
4 tests and a final; You can use a notecard on every test. He's really good at explaining problems and he makes sure everyone in the class understands. There is homework but it is not graded. If you're not really good at math take him, he is willing to help anyone in class and in office hours
Its all about perspective. If you're good at math, you should take him, if not there's better professor. He has admitted that he writes some of the reviews on here. each semester. He isn't a bad professor, he's pretty good, but there's no extra credit, no quizzes, nothing to help your grades, just tests and thats it.
Demaio is very passionate about what he teaches, and he makes the information very easy to understand. Only grades in the class are tests but there are more than 100 points available so you can miss some and still get a perfect score. Attendance and HW are optional but doing it helps a lot. One of the best professors I've had at KSU.
He is a funny guy. You can really tell he cares about everyone understanding the material in the class. Stats is easy if you practice the homework he gives you. I took him during the summer and his homework was not for a grade but just for practice. (IMPORTANT TO DO). His tests are all multiple choice. Probability is tricky so really practice on it
The class is graded by four tests and a final. He explains everything clearly and goes at a manageable pace. He assigns homework for every section you do. It isn't graded/mandatory, but if you're struggling, it definitely helps. He's entertaining, too. I'd take him again in a heartbeat.
Dr. Demaio is a good professor at best. He is very test heavy and doesn't offer any other forms of credit. If you dont do good on tests, you don't do good in the class. Also, he doesn't post his notes anywhere online. He just has the outline he reviews in class on the website. He also does not post any grades. He just posts the final grade online.
I loved him. He is very quirky but nice. He will not make you feel dumb for asking questions. Tests seemed hard but I got a 90 on all three. Haven't taken the final but we can use a note card so it should be ok. He doesn't offer extra credit assignments but you have a chance to earn lots of extra points on the tests. Take him if you can!
the entire semester you literally get 5 grades. no homework is worth points and there's no quizzes/participation points either. each test he gives, including the final, is 20% of your grade which I think is crazy. he's a really nice guy but I do not agree with this system!!
While attendance is not mandatory, it is impossible to pass his class without it. He loves participation. There are only 4 tests (literally your only grades) for the semester. Only 1 test is truly difficult. He allows a 3x5 card per test for formulas and definitions. Funny, accessible, old-school Socratic style teacher. 100% recommended him.
He is very straight forward with what will be presented on the tests. He doesn't require homework. He will only assign homework for extra practice. I didn't even use the homework he assigned to get an A. I just studied our lectures and did well on all the tests.
Great guy who really cares about his students. He is there to make sure you succeed in all of your material and is always open to helping you figure out the content. He expects you to practice problems and study, but still is there to get you to where you need to be. I would take him again in a heartbeat. 10/10
I take the blame for my procrastination, but it should be noted that there are no homework grades and each test is worth 25% of your grade.
Homework and video assignments have nothing to do with test material. There is no other grades taken except for tests but homework is required.
Thought joining this class would be easy. Hw doesn't count so, graded only on 4 tests worth 25% of your grade. One test is the hardest of the others. Hw & videos don't really correlate with the tests. Also, not very helpful when it comes to asking questions & can come off passive aggressive in emails. Recommend finding someone else if you can!!!
Don't take this professor unless you are perfect at taking tests. each test is 25% of your grade with a project at the end. Demaio is very inflexible so if you mess up on one of the exams, it sets your grade in stone. The material isn't difficult, but Demaio is anal about grading and gives hardly any partial credit (despite being a math class).
Don't take him, the class is only tests and he's terrible at grading
Test were difficult and the professor was no help, only 4 set which I what your whole grade is based on.
Professor is not very understanding of situations. The grade is 4 tests each worth 25%. I had an extremely good reason to recieve a makeup exam, but he was unwilling to administer it. It made me think he is lazy because the course is online and not even taught by him. Every thing you do is on ALEKS.
If you do the homework problems the tests will be fairly easy. Homework isn't graded but it will help you understand the concepts for the tests. The course is on Aleks, which is very easy to use and has some tools to guide you through difficult problems. Tests are open for 24 hours. Only 4 tests so missing a deadline might tank your grade
very test heavy, do not miss a deadline. the tests were not proctored or anything and were all online thru aleks.
