This teacher was very knowledgeable. I took calc 1 class in Summer 08 and I made a B in the class. He gives lots of homework but does not check it or grade it and ofcourse if you keep up with homework you are bound to succeed in the class. Its a hard class but was always there to assist with questions. I recommend doing h/w for success.
The class consists of 45min of vocabulary and 30min of problem solving. This is NOT the way to teach a math class. Hard to understand and when he is actually showing us how to solve material, he repeats easy concepts over and over again. He is a last resort and you must be prepared to teach yourself. He also says diggity instead of degree. (lol)
he is very nice professor and test was very easy, extra credit on every test
Great teacher. I took him during the summer II. We went through the material very quickly. Then on Lab day we'd go through it again, and then again on the day of the test. You get it taught to you 3 times. He works out tons of problems very clearly. 4 tests , 4 labs, final. Labs are done in class. Drop lowest test grade. 60/20/20
I took him for Pre Calculus. Excellent Professor! And Easy A too! :) All you have to do is do homework, which is NOT much! And study from the notes you take in class! :) Very Helpful, and very clear! :) He has an accent though, but that is not really a problem, for he is a very good teacher and the class is easy A, kind of, too! :)
Even though he has an accent, he is a great teacher. He explains everything you need to know and answers questions. You just have to pay close attention to what he is saying.
He's a pretty good professor overall. He'll answer any questions you have over the labs or example problems when it's review time. Taking notes is a must, and so is attendance- otherwise you will miss out on alot. Although he can be a little hard to understand (accent) sometimes, he knows what he's doing, and teaches pretty well. Simple class.
If you go to class and take notes, you will get an A. There are 4 lab assignments and 4 tests (he drops the lowest 1) plus a final. Can't understand him on some things but its funnyy :)
He was hard to understand but he was okay as a teacher. He does want you to pass.
He was extremely rude. Didn't answer questions and if you asked him questions, he'd ignore you.
First day of class you are going to yell at yourself for signing up for him. Has a terrible accent which you somehow get used to throughout the course. Be prepared to go home and teach yourself the material. But he's a nice guy and wants you to pass. Four tests (drops the lowest test grade) plus a final. NO online lab crap.
he is really nice explains everything.
I had him for precal. very nice guy, teaches well, understandable accent. his tests are same as the reviews and labs we did. If u miss a class, u will be lost
Elakodical is a nice guy, but he's not a good teacher. The main thing with him is that a lot of times he doesn't explain the concepts in sufficient detail: he'll only say two to four sentences about a concept and then do problem after problem on the whiteboard. Because of that I struggled with all but the most self-explanatory concepts.
His teaching style is nice and clear if you can ignore the thick accent. I'd recommend attending every class so you don't get behind. Only has labs and tests but are VERY easy if you practice problems more than once. He is also very helpful and can answer any problems you have. VERY great professor, I'd take him again for sure!
Easy professor. Gives examples just like his tests. Never opened a textbook, got an easy A. Accent isn't bad
Easy teacher. Willing to help anyone. Would take him again, for sure.
His accent is not as bad as some people on here make it seem, but he does have one. I took him Summer 3 2011 6-8 pm, he did move kinda fast for me but we always got out 15 minutes early so I don't understand why he rushed trough material, was probably just the summer blues! On a good note he did meet me before class one time soheseemprettyaccesible
He is an awesome teacher. He teaches very well and is willing to help anyone. He drops the lowest test grade and has no online math labs, and attendance not mandatory. His accent takes 2 days to get used to. Take him and you will not regret it. As a plus, he is organized with his notes.
He has an accent, but he is a very good professor! If you do the homework and the labs, you will do fine on the test.
Mr. Elakodical one of the best math teacher I have ever had. He explains complex ideas clearly. His tests are simply the material he covered in class. I highly recommend him.
He is an excellent teacher. I took him for college algebra. He taught the subject very well and did lots of examples.I would highly recommend him. His tests are from the review.
By far, the best trigonometry teacher I've ever had. Clear and to the point.
He is straightforward and to the point. He actually tries to make sure you understand. If you study your homework and lab. You will do good in his class.
Cares about the students. Has an accent which you quickly learn and understand. Very Clear and to the point. Awesome teacher therefore i am taking him again. Has a great teaching style overall.
Take HEED: If you do NOT have a full understanding of basic college algebra DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. (Day 1 will have you doing Quadratic functions and equations) Mr. Elakodical does not slow down to explain things..and his heavy accent makes it difficult to understand him. Assumes everyone has had several yrs of algebra.
Excellent teacher. Knows the subject inside and out. He is clear and to the point. He does plenty of problems to make sure the students knows how to do it. The tests are easy if you listen and do the homework
Great teacher, heavy accent which you quickly adapt to. Attend class to do well.
Difficult to understand. Unable to fully answer questions. Weekly homework, don't put it off until the last week of school, you will regret it. Did not like the class.
I enjoyed this class! He was a very easy grader.
I was in this guys class for two days....dropped out after i realized i couldn't understand what he was saying... DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS if you do not already have a degree in algebra. Accent is so bad.. 1-10 he is a solid 12.
Dropped the class after the first test. Was hard to understand what he was saying. Review didn't help at all for the test. He expects you to know everything he is "teaching". Doesn't seem to enjoy helping anyone. I have always made A's in my math classes until now. Highly NOT recommended!
He lectures in a very interactive manner, if you want to participate there are lots of chances, however you could hide in the back and be fine. Often appears impatient with questions but he isn't. Slight accent. Tests are much easier than the labs, attend class and do the labs and you'll ace the class. Easy A, I've always been good at math though.
Excellent professor. He gives you all the resources you need to succeed and only tests over what was taught in class. Take notes in class, review the example problems done in class, complete the labs, and you should be good to go on any test. He has a slight accent, but it's not at all hard to understand.
Joseph was a great professor. I had him for College Algebra and went to him for help several times a week through Calc 2. He was always willing to help and explained things in ways that I could understand. Is the smartest math professor I've ever had.
First day of the class I missed it, the professor hand me a bunch of paperwork during the second hand which I went through the same day alone. While in class I notice it was extremely hard to understand due to his accent. I had to ask several times what did he said and formulate my own question to elaborate my conclusions. Monotone class.
A great math teacher. Does a lot of examples. You can't skip class because test is like example problems done in class and the lab that he hands out for each unit, online HW.
Awful teacher.. If you love yourself don't take this professor. Accent is hard to understand and very monotone. Seems frustrated when you ask questions as if you're supposed to know everything already. Tests are nothing like the labs.
Professor Joseph is a great teacher. He does have a slight accent, but it never poses an issue. He is available for help most of the time and all you have to do is ask. Study his labs thoroughly because that is what comes on the exam. Make sure to ask him what questions will be on the exam because he will tell you about those as well. Good luck.
Mr. Elakodical is a good teacher lecture wise, and he has no issues answering questions or tending to students., but if your looking for a courteous, joyful or charismatic teacher, you didnt hit bullseye. He is always in a serious mood, and doesnt play games.
Easy A. The test is straightforward. He gives you review questions, do them and pass the test with an A. 4 tests and one cumulative. He's there if you have any questions. Honor class has labs and assignments (presentation, math lab tutoring etc.), but they are very easy and actually prepare you for the tests.
Easiest calc teacher at collin. Labs are take home, he goes over alot of problems from the textbook in class. There are no surprises on the test, if you do the Lab and go over the notes then you are good.
Easy A if you just knock out the take-home labs, do your online HW consistently, and literally just write down the example problems he does in class ALONG with the page and question number so you can go back and practice the problems. THEY ARE ON THE EXAMS. he is a very simple and a nice man if you are respectful to him. Don't miss class!!!
Professor Elakodical is strict but simple, he gives you 4 labs which are take home. There is nothing new on his tests, most of the questions are like the questions done in lecture.
easy tests. all the problems he goes over in class are like the test. one thing is that the final exam is no where near the material on the previous tests before it. this class is an easy A.
Tests and homework are based off what we covered lecture. He clearly goes over concepts and examples. If you show up for lecture, pay attention, and do homework you'll for sure pass. He has a bit of an accent which sometimes makes it hard to understand, but after a couple classes you can clearly comprehend.
I didn't like this professor at all. I'd expect hard tests but his were over what they needed to be. His final doesn't drop the lowest so that's sad. His accent is hard to understand and most times I just had to read through his really bad handwriting on the board so I could understand. You do get used to it though. Homework is long but helpful.
Easy A if you show up and take notes. Problems on the exam are similar to problems covered in class. Very simple and nice, but hates if you miss class.
All in all I enjoyed him and his class. Diff Eq isn't too bad but there is a lot to memorize. He always was available to help before or after class if I had questions. Truthfully his accent was a bit hard for me at times. He is a very tough grader even on minor mistakes. That is probably my biggest complaint. I would take him again!
Awesome Professor! I took his Saturday classes and they were a breeze. Homework is assigned problems from the book as long as you do them you get a 100. He does awesome test reviews. Tests are the same questions from the homework. He has an accent but I never had a time where I couldn't understand him. He really cares about every student. Take him!
this teacher is nice. The tests were a bit hard but if you work on your homework and labs, you should do fine. He drops the lowest test grade. DO NOT SKIP CLASS.
He teaches in a very clear manner and shows examples of many different types of problems. Best math professor I have ever had.
No merry-go-round, super straightforward. A good, respectable professor that teaches with simple examples and practice. Classic, nothing surprising at all! Very recommendable for those that are ready to sit down and study even a little while. It's not the hardest thing at all, but if you expect to pass without even practicing, it won't happen.
His class might be a little bit boring cuz he is very straightforward, but he does know how to teach. He is very patient, even if you ask him something he just explained or a simple question, he will go over everything again patiently to make sure you understand the material. Questions on the test are similar to the labs. 0% textbook,TAKE NOTES!!
Do not take this class.... He is tough! Hardcore lije military strict! BeWare
Very straight forward class. What are on the labs are similar to what will be on the test. Most questions from the lab are what we did in class. His tests have the easier questions on them. He is a very nice guy. Bumped my 89 to a 90 and I didn't even have to ask!
Awesome professor. Very straightforward and clear during lectures. Bcal 2 isn't easy by nature, but he explains the material very well and will explain in depth if you have questions. Labs are similar to problems from class, and tests are essentially the labs with new numbers.
The professor has an accent but understandable. He explains the material very well and really breaks it down for his students. We had 4 tests and a cumulative. I find the labs and the cumulative harder than his actual tests. The homework were all due a the last day of school but don't wait till the last minute because it is long. He is great.
If you want to learn, and do the traditional, good old, studying, then this professor is the right choice. He doesn't fool around, everything's crystal clear, and he respects you if you respect him. He's not unfriendly, just very old-school. Homework is important, get a study group, pay attention and you will be more than fine. Great professor.
Very straight forward professor. If you do the homework, go to class, and pay attention you should be fine. There are no surprises on the tests. He knows his stuff and won't make you do unnecesary stuff. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HIM!
He is a hidden gem. I seriously loved his class, it was straight forward and fairly easy. Prof is very kind and soft spoken but very funny one on one. I recommend this class to anyone who isn't super math heavy in their upbringing, I struggle generally with math and got 100's on my exams.
He goes through everything in his lectures. He has clear expectations. There's 4 labs, 4 tests (he gives review sheets for tests), and a final. He replaces the lowest test grade with your final exam score if it's better. He also gives many extra credit opportunities (attending workshops). There are no surprises on his tests. Overall good professor.
He is a good professor but it was hard to understand his strong accent. He is polite if you show him respect and he offers many chances at extra credit. The labs can be difficult but go to the Math Lab on campus and you will be shown exactly how to do it.
Professor Elakodical was a great professor. His accent is thick, so you'll have to listen intently. But after a week, it's fine. He gives reviews before each exam and they cover pretty much what's going to be tested. I got 100's on almost all of the exams. Final is difficult, I bombed it. Do well on the other tests and you can get an A.
He is a great professor but it will take you about two weeks to get used tot he accent. Labs are similar to the test. Calcullus is boring so dont expect it to be a fun.
Professor Elakodical is average for toughness. It's calc 2. You should already be ready to study. But Elakodical is extremely great for one reason. For me I take off work to study for 2 or 3 days before tests. I misread the syllabus and had no time to prepare. He allowed me to take the test in a testing center 2 days later. Extremely nice.
Very chill professor. He gets straight to the point and teaches the material in an easy way. 4 tests, 4 take home labs, some online hw and a comprehensive final. The tests and labs are easy, but beware of the final. It isn't made by him so it is a little more difficult. Would recommend if you are looking for a pretty easy and straightforward class!
This class was difficult for me, but I appreciated how clear this professor made it. He does not waste time trying to be funny in front of the class, but focuses on covering the material thoroughly during class. I made an A because I used all of the resources he gave us and spent a lot of time practicing the problems. Hard work pays off with him.
Prof. was very informative and to the point in his teaching. He goes over a theory from the textbook, then spends time working through examples (mostly from the book). Attendance is optional but he keeps track, and he is more willing to help the students who come to class and try. His accent is thick so sit towards the front to read his notes.
Prof Elakodical is by far the best math professor at collin. I took him for cal 2 and linear algebra and have not had a professor better prepared for class than him. he makes it easy for you if you try.
- Goes through material fast. - Homework's are online and have unlimited attempts plus examples to help. - There are curves on his exams. - Keep up with the homework!!!! It will help for the exams. - If you want to correct your lab, go to his office and he will help AND give points back. - He has a thick indian accent so ask him to repeat things.
This is the best math professor I've ever had. his lectures are amazing and easy to understand. the problems on his tests are exactly what he teaches in class. Pretty straight forward. he also doesn't use Pearson, he uses knewton which is much more helpful than Pearson and easier. TAKE HIS CLASS.
The reviews are misleading. This professor is hard. He does lecture well enough, but his tests are nothing like the labs or the reviews, if he gives us one. He seems like he understands the material well enough, but can't teach it efficiently for students to understand. I would not take him unless you wanna study for hours and hours on your own.
Don't believe any bad comments about him. He is brilliant! He explains problems very well and ALWAYS asks if everyone understands the concept, you just need to ask if you do not. His tests could not be easier and he gives problems to use from the book to prepare. Do those problems and you are guaranteed to get an A on his testes. Take him!
BEST MATH PROFESSOR EVER!! If you actually wanna learn something then just take him! His labs are all based on what he teaches in lectures and the exams are 95% same as labs. So if you know the labs, the exams are easy A.
Be prepared to have a extremely introverted Professor, I myself am Introverted but this professor has got to speak up louder and face us ready to teach instead cowering in his voice. He rather mumble then give full answers. And during an in class problem he always chooses the wrong question and writes the wrong number. Be confident its your job.
At first, I wanted to drop his class. He has a strong accent and is very quiet but I decided to stay anyway and im glad I did. Hes a great professor. He truly knows how to teach. He will always make sure the class knows whats going on before moving onto the next thing. The labs and tests are easy and all the homework is on mystatlab. take him!
Took differential equations for fun. For a difficult class the professor made sure to break down the material making it easy to understand. My B was due to my error on an exam, not because of the professor. Would definitely take him again.
By far the easiest math prof ive ever had when it comes to note taking. He clearly and plainly explains every concept you need to know and writes it down on the whiteboard for simple note taking. Usually you spend half the class practicing all types of problems. His class IS hard but if you can take good notes and keep up with the HW you'll be fine
best math teacher i ever took. is he super jolly? no. but he tells you exactly what you need to know for the test and nothing else. he makes hard concepts seem super easy. in addition, he makes his tests as easy as elementary school problems. DO NOT LISTEN to the other negative reviews, anyone who says anything bad never went to class. EASY CLASS
His tests are super hard. Tough grader on the tests. Does not answer questions well. In class work is... okay. Very quiet and has an accent thats hard to understand.
He's very quiet and straight forward; but his lectures are the easiest and clearest that ive ever had in a math class. Taking notes is a breeze and he writes them in a clear easy to understand and use way. Hes very smart and the labs are similar to the tests. He can grade tough but hes fair. By far the best math prof. ive had here at collin.
Took for calc 1 and pre cal and particularly in pre cal he was solid and I learned a lot. Not the best when we switched to online, but in seat he sure is. He isn't a warm and fuzzy kinda guy, but you are there to learn not to be entertained. If you ask him questions he gets a little short with, you've been warned. If you put effort he will help.
He has a very thick accent that is very hard to understand. He also does not have any leniency on his tests! The class averages for the tests so far are 50 and 60. We are definitely not going to pass this class, and it is because this guy is so hard on us. We have work and other classes to do, but he is very strict on answers. DO NOT TAKE HIM EVER!
Get ready to want to have your hopes and dreams crushed, because this professor is really bad at helping students learn. He doesn't know how to teach in a way that is the best for his students. Everyone in class is confused, and when we don't know an answer he gets mad at us. He made me drop the class, because of how bad it was.
Idk how these students are giving him a good rating, because he is the hardest professor Ive ever taken in my entire life. He is absolutely positively so difficult when it comes to his tests, and he is not very nice at all. He does answer questions, but thats his job. I know Im not going to pass his class, because of his teaching style.
I honestly don't know how anyone could fail his stat class. Just show up, do the HW, the Labs&study the questions he tells you to for the tests. HW over every chapter, 4 easy Labs, 4 tests, 1 final. The HW got a bit annoying the 2nd half of the semester bc the questions were a slightly different format from what we did in class, but very manageable
With only 4 weeks of class left, Im sure this is about to be the first class Ive ever failed. The professor seems to have a good understanding of the material, but does a very poor job of teaching it. The test average on the last exam was a 44, and he refuses to curve it or drop an exam grade. This class has made me feel very dumb, honestly.
Easiest math professor in Collin. Make sure to understand the examples he taught in class and practice. Great professor.
Professor Elakodical is not a warm or energetic teacher, but he is clear and concise and more than fair. If you put in decent effort you will be rewarded with an A. He can be short when answering questions, but will work with you. Questions on tests are usually just as difficult or easier than what is in homework or lecture.
Great Professor overall
THE BEST MATH PROFESSOR. He's not the most warm guy, but the way he gets straight to the point and teaches is amazing. Has a bit of an accent but will repeat anything you have doubts on. Tests are easy as he goes over similar problems before them. A lot of online hw, but they have long deadlines and unlimited attempts! TAKE HIM FOR MATH.
Professor Elakodical is an example of a professor that obviously understands the content, and knows how to teach to a certain crowd, I can give him that. Other than that, he is a stoic, and rude individual, that will put you down if you ask a question. Hard to respect a instructor that treats students as they are lesser individuals.
He has awesome lectures. He knows what he's talking about. He TELLS you exactly what's on an exam. He always asks if we have questions. I can safely say first hand that in my class, about half of the students don't show up, you won't pass like that. Those students aren't doing well. He's amazing, he's kind and he cares, Please stop the hate for him
This class was somewhat enjoyable but it has a nonchalant mood. The professor is a great teacher it's just that he's very monotonous and won't lighten up the class with jokes. Homework is very light and the tests can be a bit tricky. Honestly, it seems as if all he cares about is just teaching the lesson of the day and then he'll just leave.
I thought it was an easy class. There was barely any work you had to do outside of class as long as you attended lecture. His reviews are a list of questions from the textbook that are exactly like they are on his tests. Would recommend him if you're okay with a monotonous teacher. Sometimes gives bonus points on tests if you show up to class often
Monotonous and serious, but a very competent teacher, knows the material very well and his lectures cover the test material perfectly.
Mr. Elakodical is one of those foreign math teachers that is hard to understand. He has this accent that makes him hard to hear but if you good at Algebra then you'll be fine during the semester. However, if you're not good at math then don't take him. Gonna be honest, but by midterm half the class dropped out. Also, all the exams are easy.
He is very good with lecturing. He is not amazing on explaining feedback. I had him for linear algebra and stats and both were fairly easy. He does not give extra credit for either class. In L.A. the exams are exactly off of homework with class notes also available. There are excellent lecture notes for statistics, but the exams are a bit tricky
Great professor, I took the class (5 weeks) over the summer. Attend the lectures and he will go over everything on tests. Attend lectures, Do the practice exam questions in the textbook that he specifically points out, and you will get a good grade on the exams. The only reason I got a C was because I didn't even take the final exam.
Solid professor. My favorite Math Prof at Collin SC, and I think I've taken most of them at this point. His teaching style is that of repetition, that is in class you will do like 20+ practice problems per class. DON'T SKIP CLASS. Has a thick accent and comes off a little abrasive with questions but I don't think its personal, maybe cultural.
WOULD NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU CARE ABOUT GPA, HARD TO UNDERSTAND, RUDE, DOES NOT COMMUNICATE WELL AT ALL.
There are no curves and he assigns over 30 homework modules to complete outside of class while still assigning labs. There are quizzes before class every day that he takes for a grade which drowns you in even more to study for. Even if your grade is 0.5 under he will NOT round it up to the next letter grade for no apparent reason.
Not sure why he has a 4.3, this is by far the worst professor I have ever had. I switched out of his course to a different prof the very first day because he was so poor at communicating to us (NOT talking about his accent). My stomach was churning at the thought of having to stay there a whole semester, the vibe of his class was so off.
Professor Joseph Elakodical's math class was frustrating. His explanations were rushed, vague, and unclear, leaving students confused. Lectures lacked structure, making it hard to follow. He wasn't approachable during office hours, and overall, it felt like he didn't care if we learned or not.
Don't expect enthusiasm, do expect him to be great at teaching. Not sure why there are mixed reviews, wish he could teach the rest of my math courses. Understands the material well, and the exam questions are exactly straight from lectures and txtbook. Attend class, do the hw!! From someone who's never been great at math, I'd say he's pretty great.
This professor can come across as insensitive. I think he is a nice guy at heart and possibly undergoing a lot of stress. It's not a problem until you have questions and end up avoiding him, but I am also naturally shy. Although, I can't complain much because he's good at explaining the subject and I'm satisfied with my grade so far.
I wish I switched out of this class because this course has wrecked my confidence with math. He moves fast and doesn't always explain the steps he takes, nor does he give enough time for you to genuinely try the question first before he answers it. He gives a quiz quite literally every other day, 5 exams, 4 labs, + 30 Pearson homework assignments.
He's alright at teaching but not the best. Only goes off lectures off the board, and makes time go by really slow and boring, also making it hard to concentrate. Not really good at explaining either in my opinion. He does have an accent as well. If you're taking a difficult math class, I wouldn't recommend him.
Not bad at all. If you do the homework plus a bit of practice, you're ready for his exams. I really appreciated how he assigns JUST ENOUGH homework to teach the material without it being too much to keep up with, IMO. Lectures were ok, but doing the homework and using Google as needed taught me more to be honest. Very helpful if you ask him though.
While the work isn't strictly that hard, but the part that makes is difficult is that, for a class with three lectures a week, you learn very little from from his lessons. He steamrolls through the lectures allowing no time for questions. The material is essentially self taught. Homework is self-paced, don't wait to the last minute.
If you are someone who learns math better through seeing examples rather than just reading definitions, this is the professor for you. Homework is just the right amount to help you understand the concepts without it being overbearing -- however all of it is due at the end of the semester, so don't let it pile up. Thoroughly enjoyed this class.
Sometimes it's difficult to understand behind the accent, but in order to really understand I highly recommend write down what he puts on the white board as best you can. Make sure you also do all the labs.
Tough class with a strict grading system. However, using Unstuck ai and the free textbook can help you prepare. Just be sure to stay engaged and put in the work.
i took him for calc2. I will take him for differential equations next semester as well. One thing i really liked was that we solved different types of questions in class which gets you prepared for exams. I didn't heavily prepare for any exam yet I got an A! There was 4 exams 4 labs final. Homework is due end of semester! Absolutely recommended!
The HWs were completion and test questions were pretty easy but he was very rude when I replied to him about a mistake in his grading of the first exam. His class is definitely easier than UTD's 2418 linear algebra class
If you skip class, it'll be hard to keep up. As long as you pay attention in class and do not skip, the class will be easy. I'm taking him again for pre-cal. Don't be afraid to ask him questions.
If you skip class, it'll be hard to keep up. As long as you pay attention in class and do not skip, the class will be easy. I'm taking him again for Calc 1. Don't be afraid to ask him questions.
