Before I took professor Evans's class, I hated to speak in front of people. After his class, I feel more confidant and articulate in public settings. He is a very helpful teacher. While he is a little lecture heavy, his lessons do have a point that can be applied to real world situations. He is clear about his expectations and is a very fair grader

Joseph's teaching style made this class very interesting. I didn't know a lot about interpersonal communication before this class. Professor Evans make this class interesting. His lectures are detailed and clear. He also had a lot of fun group assignments. While his tests are pretty hard, he tells you everything that will be on the exam.

Good teacher- tell you what to do to get an A. He's not an easy grader, but fair. I highly recommend him.

Since this was a night class, there were less than 20 students. As a result, professor Evans was able to work with us individually on our speeches. He was wonderful! Clear, informative, and strict. He will make you a better speaker.

Professer Joseph is probably the funniest, nerdiest, and best professor I'd had in college. He's not easy. There are 5 speeches, one paper, and a final exam. But the best thing about this professor is his attention to students. He's clear in his lectures and gives plenty of opportunities to practice your speech. You will be a better speaker

I have to say he is one of the best Communication Studies professors I ever had! He's very nice and is willing to help you with whatever you need! What I love about his classes is when he talks in a tone where you would listen to his lectures! He isn't boring! But I have to warn his class isn't easy it's only easy if you do all the work!

What I like about this professor is he is very patient with you and he is not the type of professor where oh he'll put you on the spot and he is very good with his lectures! Plus the best part is he lets everyone out early! I recommend everyone should take him and if people took him then we'll all transfer out of El Co in 2 years or so faster!

If you ever take a Communications Class take it with Professor Evans he is one of the most fantastic Communications professors you'll ever have! He actually helps you understand the material that he teaches and he truly cares for his students ! And yeah Communications class is not easy however he makes it easy for you to understand!

His lectures are articulate and straight forward. He skipped all the between the lines bs. I rated him as a 3 for easiness because his exams aren't all that bad. Also you obviously have to do a lot of research to rebuttal but speaking publicly isn't too harsh since he places the podium in front you.

Evan's is a great coms teacher! For every speech he gives an outline of how you should set it up. If you want an A just follow that outline and you'll get it. He gives great feedback for every speech so he will tell you what to improve.

Winter 2017 public speaking was one of the best classes. This professor is super good if you really want to improve your public speaking. Every class he makes you practice what he teaches. Four speeches, papers, and two public speaking events make the coursework managble and interesting.

Evans is absolutely amazing! He only requires two major and two minor speeches throughout the semester. He makes you feel confident with yourself during your speeches and wants you to succeed when you do public presentations. Please don't take advantage of him! This past spring session I took Dr Evans' argumentation course. I had no idea what to expect but was plesently surprised. He really breaks down how to make an argument and is very helpful in teaching you how to debate. The tests were not hard because he give you a good study guide. I really recommend taking him.

He has you get into groups to practice speaking which definitely helps when you go to speak in front of the class. Argumentation and debate class this summer was one of the best classes I've taken. The instructor is clear and offers so much help on every assignment. Two tests, three debates, and a paper are all he grades on. Prof Evans also gives study guides and outlines for the assignments.

Great teacher. Learned a lot about writing speeches, public speaking, and overcoming anxiety while speaking in front of people. He's very easy to understand and makes outlining simple. I also appreciated that he makes the class share their topics to help us shape our topic which honestly saved me because good topics are hard for me to thinks of.

Tips: 1. He does not take attendances but there is participation points. So I suggest pick right days to not go. 2. Debate is not graded harshly 3. Exams are straightforward so just study his power point slides for midterm and final 4. He is awesome and pretty cool when you get to watch him debating by himself to show an example to the class.

Argumentation this fall was great with this Professor. Evans is very helpful on the debate assignments and makes public speaking in your debates less scary. IMO, his study guides for the midterm and final are pretty clear so you probably do not need to buy the textbook.

I'm so glad that I took Prof Evans for Coms 120. I am terrified of public speaking, but Prof Evans made it so easy that I was comfortable enough to get up on the podium without fear. Comm 120 was so much fun with Professor Evans. The material is easy and he makes it even more interesting with his passion for the subject. Therere three live debates which all require public speaking but he walks you though them and helps you if you have a fear of public speaking.

He made me look at the world a whole new way because he made me a better critical thinker (I cant read or watch the news without thinking of Evanss lectures). My fav part of the class were the debates. The topics were current and it was fun.

It seems like a lot of work at the beginning, but its so much fun that it won't actually be hard (he also give a lot of feedback if you ask him questions). Really nice and engaging.

Best class. Study powerpoints for midterm and finals. Public debate sucks but it gets better after the first one. Don't have to go every classes but he tells you important stuffs sometimes, so make at least one friend to share for missing days. Grades mercifully. He helps and understands for people who are lost to make debates. Take him!

If you have to take public speaking take him! At the beginning of this summer, I couldnt speak without stuttering or shaking. My 1st speech was a disaster bc I was so nervous. I just gave my final speech and was able to be fluent for 7 mines thanks to this professor. His #1 focus is making you a better speaker. If you work you will get much better

Totally not what I expected for a "debate" class. The professor is kind and approachable. He obviously is passionate about debate and argumentation and it shows. Each debate was nerve racking but once you get over the first one, it was so much fun. He offers a lot of help and encouragement. He also doesn't assign busy work. His shoe game tho!

Professor Evans is great. I took him during the summer and he never made us dress up. Gives great feedback and comments that will help you out on future presentations.

Ive been in class for a few months now and i have to say that he is one of the best professors at that school! It shows that he really cares about all his students. His class is very easy as well so definitely an easy A. I really appreciate his teaching style. Ive had some pretty tough and strict professors in the past but hes great one.

The most down to earth professor you will ever have. Took argumentation and debate this summer and it was outstanding. His lectures are clear and easy to comprehend. The absolute best teacher Ive ever had, hes tech savvy and is clear with grading and due dates, because he had to miss class occasionally, ended up erasing our one and only paper AND our final. No textbook. He loves what he does and is great at it and keeps you entertained in all his lectures. Hes a super great guy and youll LOVE his class.

I was nervous about this class because I was never much of a public speaker, but Professor Evans eased students into getting used to speaking. 4 Speeches only! He is one the nicest and caring professors I have had so far. I recommend taking him if you can!

I don't think I could ever say enough about Professor Evans! He is SO encouraging and really empathizes with students who have anxiety with speeches. He gives the best feedback and just keeps on encouraging his students. He gives extra credit and responds to emails right away. You will never regret taking his class, he is a gem of a professor!

Professor Evans' class was awesome! I hated public speaking, but through the feedback, drills, and lectures, I turned my whole outlook around! He's compassionate and caring and teaches with a lot of enthusiasm. Definitely take his class for 1) an easy A 2)to have fun 3) to improve your public speaking! Prof. Evans is great and more laid back and unpretentious than most professors. He doesn't put too much emphasis on your ability to be confident in front of an audience and cares more about your ability to make arguments that you can back up. His exams and lectures are easy to understand and somewhat entertaining. Also, no required text. Yay!

Took Comm 120 w Evans Spring 2020. He was great with interesting lectures. Sadly the entire school was forced online due to the Covid-19 pandemic and all courses moved online. My other classes were a mess with my other profs being unclear/flexible w the transition online. Evans was my only prof who was clear, responsive, & flexible w tech issues!

Professor Evans is great ! Clear criteria what he expects from a student. Understandable and clear lectures !! Responds to emails on time and highly recommend !!! Take him and you will learn a lot without a lot of stress !

I took Prof E during winter online. 3 or 4 speeches and he lets you decide what to talk about. Very straightforward and understanding. Gives good feedback. Everything is at your own pace. Take him!! highly recommend. Easy A

If there was a difficulty of 0, Evans would be that! Super chill professor and he is understanding. Few presentations(not hard at all). The last presentation, we got extra points for doing the "speakers triangle". You will know what it is if you take him. Took Evans my first year of college but my rating never showed up XD

I was scared to take communications but Prof Evans made it so easy and straightforward to understand. Similarly, the work was also very straight to the point which honed in on the key points he wants you know. Very understanding of unforeseen circumstances so long as you let him know. Definitely made argumentation less of a scary topic for me.

Great Professor! He uploads clear 30-min lectures every week, we have a few speeches and papers but they are not graded as an English class (graded as arguments). He gives extensions and there's no homework other than those big assignments.

Although I took Prof. Evans online course so I didn't get to meet him, from his videos he is a very sweet person, and he was very forgiving to me when I needed more time on an essay due to an injury. Majority of the work is two papers, he is very clear on what do to and his class is simple. I really enjoyed it!

Professor Evans was great professor. The class was 2 speeches, 2 papers, and the midterm. I took it over the winter so due dates were mainly back to back. He is super accommodating and mentioned lots of times that he would push a deadline in case of an emergency or situation. Would take him again. Easy and fun class.

I took his debate and argumentation class during the fall, he is incredibly understanding. He gave me many chances to do my speech after being absent from class due to transportation issues. He let our class still turn in our midterm papers, even if it was late, and did not dock off any points for being late. Just talk to him! He really cares!

Very easy A. Only graded by 3 speeches that are easy A's if you follow the structure provided in the rubric. For each, you get to choose your own topic. Even as someone who struggles with public speaking, I got full credit on every speech even though I know I didn't deserve it.

Hard for Winter term. Evans is chill but his class doesn't provide any filler assignments, only big assignments. You'll be graded for: 2 five minute speeches, 2 five page papers that require 4 scholarly articles each, a 10 question midterm and a "participation" assignment that's a freebie for all the work done; hit or miss grade at your will.

He is a really easy teacher, I like his lecture you have to follow the instruction to pass the class. I don't like recording my self, I was super nervous but I actully did really good. If you need to take this class, he is the best teacher for that.

Professor Evans is a good Communications instructor. He takes a very laid-back approach to teaching and is not as strict as other Professors. He gives clear outlines and criteria for his speeches and there are very few within the entire semester. Would definitely refer a friend to Professor Evans!

Professor Evans has a clear, structured teaching style. The speeches are straightforward if you follow the rubric. unstuckstudy and the free textbook were helpful for preparing. Overall an easy, manageable class.

This class is really good and if you need it as a prereq I definitely recommend him as a teacher. We don't have assignments out of class our only assignments to do are the debates but he gives extensions, also he's very chill attendance is not mandatory. Email him if you'll miss a debate. He's also not a strict grader when it comes to the debates.

Curriculum was extremely easy to follow. One assignment due on the Sunday of every week which was either a speech or a paper. Easy grader but gave feedback on assignments. Very low stakes and required few hours a week to get 100% in the class.

Very easy curriculum consist of 2 minor speeches/ 1 major speech and two speech analysis papers. May take some time to reply to your email though.

This class was by far the easiest class i've ever taken. Probably the easiest A you'll ever receive, if you do the assignments which were really easy. Just 3 speeches and 2 papers which were super easy but that's really the only thing throughout the semester. He's also a lenient grader. Would definitely take again.

Mr. Evans is a great professor, and even though I am not the best public speaker, I got an A in his class! Super grateful I got to take his class!
