He has no idea how to teach, and yet he is still demanding on homework. Class is comparable to torture and he always acts like he's really in the movie industry, which he's not. I don't know how he got the job but avoid his class at all costs. He's not innovative and only "teaches" the blatantly obvious things about the movie industry.
He's an incompetent blundering buffoon. The thing about this course that really ticked me off was the emphasis on writing. The T.A. was almost equal in his stupidity but graded all my papers. It wasn't about context but rather M.L.A format. Fortunato is inaccessible, he's a charlatan, and if you enjoy film don't let him or this class ruin you.
We didn't learn anything! ANYTHING! Fortunato seems like a nice guy, but he can't teach. He doesn't know how to give out assignments. The work was unfairly graded, with a higher emphasis on works cited than actual content. None of the films we watched were of any value to me. Worst film class ever.
Don't take this class unless you are positive you will be attending every single 3-hour class period. He has a terrible grading scale, if you miss more than 2 classes, he drops your grade a full letter grade per absence. I finished the class with a B but because I missed 4 classes, ended up with a D as my final grade. Avoid this class if possible
Easy class and good TAs if you visit them. They practically write your papers! Make sure its in MLA though. TAs will check them and fix everything. Go to class and earn easy pts. its 3 hrs because we watch movies.. not that difficult. Prof. is new, but he is nice and very knowledgable.
This guy is a horrible instructor, really doesn't know how to teach. He relies on videos to teach class, I thought I paid for him to teach not the History Channel. Emphasizes way TOO much on MLA. Easy A, offers extra credit. Won't learn anything apart from other film classes. His TA was very cool.
this guy could not work a dvd player if his life depended on it. oh yes his precious dvds that he cannot teach without. well they actual teach the class more then he does. but only if its Star Wars or Jaws..JAWS! YAY (Joe imitation)textbook? yeah i read it. we didn't talk about it in class really.
enjoyable. (Continuation from the previous one).
This teacher was easy as cake. He relied way too much on dvds that he couldn't even get to work. So if the dvd didn't work why didn't he actually teach us? Ask him why. Overall, basically a review for me and an easy A. He offers extra credit, but i didn't even use it.
Well, as a teacher he is not bad, i had him for fall 08. The only big things you need to look out for in this class are the midterm, and the final exam. As they can be somewhat ridiculous and must be done on your own time. You got 2 months to decide film, screenplay or 9 page essay. give him a go, like i said he is not bad except midterm project.
Can be boring at times but EASY A plain and simple :)
Really nice guy. Simple class, but very informative relies heavily on the textbook. But overall a easy class, he is a very understandable lecturer too.
I took his online class and it was pretty easy. As long as you listen to the lectures and take advantage of the notes, the assignments are pretty easy. Make sure to utilize the ta's; they are a great help on papers. The quizes were a little difficult just because the questions were so specific. He himself, is pretty nice and helpful.
He is smart but boring. Also he is ambiguous with assignments. He will say one thing and then a week later he changes it, makes it hard when your almost done with something. I got an A+ and never even opened the book, so if you can deal with a little b.s. go for it.
Took class online and it was incredibly easy! Had friends that took it in person and they spent three hours doing nothing every thursday night.
Loved Prof. Fortunato and this class. Lectures and assignments are very interesting and Fortunato is a really nice guy and an excellent teacher. He is a bit egotistical and he shows it, but other than that, he's legit. I highly recommend this class.
Took the class online, there was a lot of material/long lectures to wade through but they were always interesting. Quizzes can be a bit tricky, writing assignments aren't too tough. He gives a TON of extra credit, so it's very easy to get an A+.
Joe likes to talk about his time in Hollywood, but he doesn't like being reminded that his single claim to fame was a failed TV show. While a nice enough guy, he doesn't have good taste in art, something that's sort of necessary in a creative film class.
Class is pretty easy. He's a really nice guy and quite a looker too
He is a really nice guy!! I don't know why the comments below are so harsh. I took two of his classes and they were both easy and fun.
This class is a Spielberg/Lucas class. I was so excited to take it when I first added it. Halfway through the semester I was telling myself why did I take this? If you've seen most of Lucas' and Spielberg's movies, it's kind of a waste of time. 5 minute lecture. 2-3 hour movie. That's it. Make sure you read the course reader. Wouldn't take again.
I took this class on line. It was a lot of work, but it was interesting. Do all of the extra credit and you will get an A+. There were 3 tests, 3 papers and 3 extra credit assignments. Just take it on line.
Online class, was very interesting and I learned a lot about the film world. If you put in a little time here and there it is not a lot of work but I procrastinate and had to scramble. Assignments aren't hard and there is a good amount of extra credit. I tried to listen to the lectures but they are long and stuffed with info. A+ if you do the work.
Took this in class rather than online and from what I gather it was the right choice. Attendance is important but you can skip any 2 classes with no penalty. There isn't a heavy work load and there are no traditional tests - just a midterm project (script or film) and final paper. All work is graded easy, and with normal effort, this is an easy A!
Took this class for fun, expecting to learn a lot about film online. Requires you to do a lot of reading and watching videos, but otherwise graded unfairly. Went to meet him in person when worrying about my grade and only received insensitive and rude comments. Never bothered to answer my questions and instead pointed out my faults instead of help.
Great teacher, take any of his classes
Took this class online, and it was great! Very clear, simple, and easy. We were required to buy two text books, and while we had to read one of them entirely (don't worry, it's broken down easy,) I never even cracked the Film Ethics one open, so don't waste your money. Overall, great and easy class. Nice professor, fair grading, and interesting.
This teacher makes the class a stressful chore. I've never had to ask for so much help from a teacher who refuses to supply any. When I ask how he would like something cited, he replied "Find it yourself." He also pulled study guides away randomly calling them "Training wheels". I don't want to email him for help because I know I won't get any.
Fortunato talks a lot about himself but with good reason. He can be helpful, but sometimes unclear. His assignments are kind of useless, I didn't like the structure of the class, but it is possible to get an A.
The first class is the worst. He talks about himself three hours. You learn the basics about the film business which was great for me because I had little knowledge going into the class. The TA's mark everything, midterms that are films are marked easier and you have to cite every single lecture he has ever given for the final. Not bad, not great.
Took the online class and I thought it was good. Not too hard and learned some interesting things about films. There is also some extra credit to help you get really good grade. You have to watch a lot of videos.
Just show up, do the work. Easy A. He is useless though, and very self-centered. Do not bother asking questions. And don't buy textbooks.
I took this course online. Straight to the point, definitely do the weekly extra credit discussion board assignments and you're guaranteed an A+.
Likes to use anecdotes from personal experience to teach - a good thing since he's genuine. Once you get to know him he's very helpful and cares about the success of his students.
AMAZING!!!! one of my fav teachers evrrr!!!
I had him for an online class. His lectures are really clear and he was really helpful!
Took Online Session A. Discussion board posts for Extra credit and an extra credit essay available. I literally listened to none of the online lectures and never read the textbook and still got an A+. VERY strict on MLA and citations!!!
Easy class online. Took session A. As long as you read the powerpoints or listen to the lectures it's an easy A. Do the extra credit opportunities, they are fast/easy points.
If you want a GPA booster, this class is for you. I took it online Session A. He lays out everything you need for the class and tells you exactly what to do for the assignments. Couple essays and tests, all simple if you follow the lectures. Very helpful when you email him and prompt responses. PLENTY of extra credit to get whatever grade you want!
Fortunato did not participate in his own class, he did not answer questions, and he believes he and his TAs are qualified to teach and assess university level writing. They are not. None of them have degrees to do so.
This class was all over the place. Poorly organized and graded by undergrad TA's that are entirely inconsistent with what they want. Make sure you follow MLA -precisely-, and even then expect to lose points on really stupid stuff. The 'extra credit' is pretty much expected of you to do well in the class... hated this class.
Very good teacher! I was dreading the fact that the class I was taking with him was 3 hours long, but he makes it fly by with his interesting stories, visuals, and videos!
Lectures are clear but boring and lengthy. I only used the powerpoints to be honest, and that was enough for a passing grade. If you want a better grade, make sure to listen to the full lectures and understand them.
I thought the lectures were fine... Although some lectures were long, Fortunato was a pleasant storyteller— you could tell he really loves teaching the class. Additionally, he was very responsive to emails, he'll discuss your grades/missed questions and he offers a lot of extra credit (over 30 points!). EASY A.
I really enjoyed this class. Everything was very clear on what was expected. It's basically go to lectures and write a journal on it, take two tests and a final, and then there's a final project but there is a lot of freedom on what to do. The lectures were always engaging, I thought which surprised me since it's a long class.
He REALLY loves Film. He gives you tons of lecture audio files and tons of powerpoints to go along with it. The course isn't that interesting for non-film majors though, because it's more of the basics of film. Take this if you plan to do more courses in Film. Tests are easy, essays are tough but they grade easily. DON'T SKIP any assignments/tests.
He's full of himself, and loves to name drop. I took him for two classes and he repeated the same stories! He was worthless to talk to, as he was intimidating and mean if you asked "dumb questions". He's a bitter has been who likes to be rude to feel he's influential and making a difference. He's not. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!
Very easy class, and his TA was awesome and an easy grader. I loved this class and professor and I'm taking another class by him next semester. I personally hardly used the course reader because you can google most anything on the study guides. (Spielberg & Lucas)
I took it online because it sounded pretty easy, and it was! It also turned out to be one of my favorite classes! He really enjoys teaching film, the lectures and power points were interesting and I loved the video clips. He offers a ton of extra credit, and it is fairly easy. Fun and easy way to get an A.
His class was personally one of my favorites during this semester. The topic of the class (SpielbergLucas) is very interesting and will hold attention. The movies shown as well are fun and interesting. The tests are not so bad as long as you do the study guides.
This class was definitely one of the easiest ones I have taken. The important part (if taking online) is to not procrastinate since there are tons of assignments and lectures. There are also lots of opportunities for extra credit and the lectures are interesting. The tests are fairly specific but not too terrible. Just take decent notes on lecture
I had to retake this class because I failed it the first time around. Take this course online and either a session A or session B class because it's so much better and unnecessary assignments are not given because of the short time period.
He loves what he teaches and cares about the students. He makes you do a group project and work with that group for most of the semester. As long as you do the assignments to the best of your ability, you'll do fine.
If you enjoy film, then you will enjoy going to class. His lectures are interesting, and he always has fun stories to tell. He likes to show videos, and keep the class entertaining. There is one mandatory group project. There are options for the midterm. Attendance is key to getting a good grade in the class.
& it's mostly papers.
Took this class online. He had pretty interesting lectures. 3 writing assignments. One of them the final. 3 exams. Tests are pretty easy as long as you have good notes. He puts out study guides and has his lecture notes in powerpoint form as well. Definitely take advantage of those.
Good class but it was a heavy course load because I took it in A session. I would recommend reading the filmmaking text book but the valenti book isn't necessary.
He gives more essay assignments than an English class. Mostly about the business part of film. The Creative Process title is deceiving. Still an interesting class though. An almost 3 hour class my seem long but it isnt bad and is only once a week.
Fortunato is a cool guy. He can be a little "snarky" as he puts it at times, but overall, he's willing to help and answer questions. His assignments are easy if you pay attention to lectures. It's a three hour class unfortunately, but overall, it's really interesting and he's really passionate about the material. Ended up with an A-.
Good professor. I am an international student and I never learn something about film but I got A+ on this course. The only thing for FMP 201 is going to class and following writing requirements. I learned a lot about film and the last class was awesome, we watched our own film from Midterm.
Take your time to listen to lectures and watch the videos as the Powerpoints are summaries of the chapters. Take good notes. As long as you're organized and manage your time well, you will do well. And take advantage of the extra credit. If you procrastinate, be prepared for last minute cramming before exams and papers.
This is a very basic film course and there's not a lot of depth to the lectures. He's a nice enough guy, but he doesn't seem to be super qualified--I'd prefer somebody with recent experience. There are multiple options for the midterm, which is great, but there is a group project during the semester that's pretty terrible. Occasionally pretty fun!
One of the easiest classes I have taken at ASU. He does grade pretty sternly on the papers, but if you dedicate an hour or so to writing them and do the extra credit, you should receive an A+ with no issues.
This was the easiest and best class I've taken at ASU. Although extremely easy I learned a lot. Every week consists of discussions, do the extra credit replies, and then 2 main exams.. use google, you'll be fine. I'm ending this course with 10+ points than needed. Super easy.
Would totally recommend taking this class! It's by far one of the easiest classes I've taken at ASU thus far. Just do the discussion board posts assigned each week, do the extra credit, and complete the study guide for exams and you'll pass with an A.
"Mediocrity at it's finest" would be a very generous statement to describe this professor. Easier than a kindergarten class, you'll pass, but you won't really learn all that much from the professor himself. You might actually do better listening to Trump.
Lucas/Spielberg was a cool class. Writing a journal entry every week was a pain, but you watch movies in class. 3 MC tests. One research paper or group film. There was three different books for this class - most test questions come from the reading. He can be rude sometimes, so don't do anything to annoy him.
Learned a lot!
This is a point driven online class, easy A. Nobody gives you feedback except for "great job" that's a TA. If you really want to improve writing as a journalist don't waste your money here. Buy the book $35, and skip this class, take something else. Save 1500. He could have made this an awesome class, but he was a total disconnect.
Easy class, and still very enjoyable. Just do the discussions and the read the material and you will learn a lot. Plus he offers a ton of extra credit. : )
Great class. Would hands down take again.
Easy A+ if you listen to all the lectures and look at the PDFs. This was an online course and his lectures are all a bit dated and pre-recorded, so some of them sound like Alvin and the Chipmunks are speaking at times; time for an update Professor!Lots of readings are assigned, BUT- yeah- He has a very kind voice and is passionate about film.
Professor Fortunato's FMP classes are a lot harder than his MCO class. Very informative! Do the lectures before you do the reading. Test questions are based on both materials and the discussion questions aren't difficult (based off the lectures). Offers extra credit!
Everyone on campus knows who this guy is, and some are willing to fight to get into his classes. I took FMP201 online as an accelerated class. Yes, there is a lot of reading, listening to lectures, projects,(This is a college level class) but I have never learned this much information in any college class in a matter of weeks. Totally recommend!
The discussions make up most of the points and as long as you hit the word count and mostly stay on topic in your posts, you get full points. The lectures are the same as the reading so you can skip the book. The midterm and final do have questions from the reading, but they're all on the study guidewhich is hidden, so make sure you find it.
The lectures were funny and extremely informative! The FMP 201 class was somewhat long but it went by super fast. He is a great guy and cares about the class. Finished the class with over a 100% because of lots of extra credit. The readings aren't important but pay attention to the lectures.
He's a cool dude
Really good professor, cares a lot about films and shows it every time in class.
Great film teacher who cares. Lots of reading, but the information will stick and tests are simple.
Fortunato is amazing! I've actually taken four or five classes with him and had a blast in each one. His classes are pretty easy and really informative. I received an A each time.
I have taken Prof. Fortunato before and I think he is one of the best film professors at ASU. He is so nice and cool, he is not shy about his experience in Hollywood either. He brought his dog to class as well which was a 10/10 experience.
This class is very easy. If you read the assigned readings and do the study-guides for the tests, you will pass. Also, the material can be quite interesting too so definitely take this class if you get the chance!
This class was a joke. Two discussion board posts a week, along with a topic of your choosing from the assigned chapter with a minimum word count of 250 words. Do that and you get full credit. Plus, two exams you can Google. (This was an accelerated course too.)
Not that big of a fan, he's a business man teaching an Art/Creative class. It's 3 hours long and when you leave you still feel like you don't know what's going on. Yeah he's really personable and the class is relatively easy.
Not a big fan, he's a business man teaching an Art/Creative class. It's more about the logistics than the "creative process." The class is also way too long. 3 Hours. He's really personable and sometimes brings his dog but otherwise, very hard to sit through.
Extremely easy upper level class! 2 discussion posts a week, you choose the topic you want to write about. 2 tests one in the middle of class and one at the end that are super easy (can even find most answers if you Google the questions). Would highly recommend taking this class if you need an easy GPA booster
I am in his two classes (THP 405 and FMP 201) for Film and man are they hard to sit through. He likes to say he won't spoon feed anyone with information but then is very vague on what he wants in terms of projects and papers. He also assigns all his papers at the end of the semester, when all other classes have final projects due.
If you choose to read the assigned readings and listen to the lectures, you will pass MCO450 with flying colors. I barely touched the textbook except to help me on exams/quizzes, never read anything, did not listen to one lecture, and got an A. Quizzes & discussions are easy. If you make even a little bit of time for this class, you'll be fine!
The exams are SUPER specific. You cannot bs it or look it up. Its all pulled directly from the book. The discussions are super easy and practically give away points. You can bs them.
This teacher is a nightmare. First, he got frustrated with me when I asked for help in his office because he didn't understand my question. Never had a teacher blow up in my face before. Then, I asked for help to access the extremely confusing website he wanted the class to use and refused. He said " sorry, can't help". Avoid this guy.
Really easy class if you read the textbook and watch the videos. There are weekly Yellowdig posts where you talk about a relevant topic of your choice on the weekly lectures and readings as well as one discussion board post. Tests are directly from a study guide you fill out as you read. Basically a mid-term and a final (which is non-cumulative).
Easy class. The posts can be annoying as you have to reach a word minimum (250 words), but they're not hard at all. Don't do the extra credit. Get the book as it is helpful. Use the study guides and Quizlet for exams. Easy A+ (yes he offers A+). He doesn't really lecture or anything btw.
He's a really interesting guy with lots of stories to tell and breaks down everything you need to know in a very straightforward and understandable way. He was never unclear of what he wanted for assignments (which weren't hard). Sometimes a little tough in grading but overall a great guy who is obviously very passionate about the industry.
Fortunato is great guy. He is passionate about film. There is a lot of reading. You have to do it to pass the tests. It was excessive reading for a film class. When discussing film he was not super open to hear opposite opinions from students. His dog Brody is the coolest. He occasionally brings him to class.
Professor Fortunato is very knowledgable about the subject matter, but is not as easy to talk to as many other professors I've had. I learned a lot in his class, but wasn't overly impressed by him as a professor. Many of the other film professors are very personable and accessible. Fortunato is not.
This course was a little more involved than the other online courses I have taken. You must listen to all of the lectures and takes notes for the exams, which you can have pulled up on the side, but they are interesting. He gives LOTS of extra credit, about 50 points worth. Just do your work and you will learn A LOT of cool things. It is worth it.
There are multiple chances to acquire tons of extra credit, which is great because you can walk out at the end of the semester with a solid A. You must attend class which is pretty long and you have to write papers & participate in discussion boards so get in a habit of keeping up early on & have no worries. Can work in a crew for the midterm :)
This class was truly easy as pie for me and very interesting as well. Professor Fortunato was clear with his grading criteria and it was pretty straightforward on how to pass the class. Great professor.
I guess this is what education is amounting to. This is a senior level class (so I expected a bit more) and the only work is 2 weekly discussions (easy as pie! with a 250 word minimum & no responses, yay!!!) and 2 exams, non-cumulative & all the answers can be found in a provided study guide. Great class for bumping your grade as he gives A+'s.
Professor Fortunato's class was pretty straightforward. You had to submit a YellowDig response twice a week and there were two exams total. I took it as an A session and the course load wasn't too bad. Just be sure to read the chapters and choose the topic of your discussion based on what you were most interested in that week.
Professor Fortunato is very knowledgeable about the content. The class requires you to read x number of chapters and write 2 yellowdig posts/week on what you've learned or taken away from it. There are no specific guidelines on how to do so, so you're free to be creative. There are two exams with extra credit questions inclusive. Do this and pass.
I've taken two courses by Professor Fortunato and I wish all my professors taught like him. His lectures are short and easy to follow. He's passionate about his topics and it shows. He grades easily and doesn't assign difficult homework. Both classes offered extra credit. Both courses I felt like I learned so much in such a short period.
Take this class if you need an easy filler! Two (250 word) yellowdig posts a week and two exams with all the answers on the study guide he provides (All answers can be found on quizlet)! I didnt do a weeks worth of posts and still got an A+. Easy GPA booster for anyone.
SUPER easy class! Each week you have to complete two yellow dig post that don't take up to much time just remember to them! There are two test that I got over a hundred percent on because he has six extra point questions. He also made the final reflection extra credit, but I didn't have to do it because I already had over a hundred percent.
Lots of long lectures to listen to, but a lot of good information. He's not very harsh on grading so as long as you try you'll be fine. He also offers a TON of extra credit so if your first exam was rough (mine was) you can still get an A+
a couple of tests during the semester and a couple of discussion boards weekly. got over 100% in this class and i would happily take it again. watch some of the lectures and write your discussions on that.
If you're an actual film student taking this class, you may enjoy it. I'm not, and I made the mistake of taking this class as an elective, thinking it would be easy and fun. Each week you must watch two movies, 1-2 hours of lecture, read a few chapters, AND write two discussion boards. You have to choose between making a film or writing a paper.
I came into this class thinking it would be very difficult but it actually was not. There's lecture, movies and a book to read but for the exams Fortunato provided study guides and I followed along in the book and filled it out and the study guides were the exams! I got an A+ SUPER EASY!! Of course it was a LOT of work but you have to work for it!
MCO450 with Fortunato is a breeze but you still end up learning some interesting things. I can see how a person might walk away without getting much out of it, but if you engage with the material, you'll walk away having taken a pretty interesting course. Two chapters a week with discussion post for each chapter.
This class is ridiculously easy. Do one discussion board post a week on anything you learned at all, so just write something based on part of one of the lectures. The two exams are pulled mostly from the study guide, which you can find the answers for online, so don't buy the book. I got 100% in this class with no extra credit and almost no effort.
Doable weekly discussion posts and 2 quizzes that you can find the answers easily. You don't need the book since you can base off your posts on the video lectures. Double check that your post was based on the correct module. I talked about the wrong module and no points were given so whoops lol. There's extra credit. +/- grading.
Definitely passionate about the subject and if you like film you'll enjoy the class. I am not a film student, so I was not a big fan, but I did learn. The lectures were SUPER heavy, but I did enjoy that he recorded them and made it more personable for an online course.
Simple class. Just watch the videos and base your essays or discussions off of those. Never purchased the book and still got an A. Not a hard class, just need to remember to hit the deadlines.
There's not a lot of assignments but most of the work is honestly completion credit. A lot of the material is interesting so I recommend listening to all of the lectures, but you can get away with just listening to the ones that pertain to the paper if that's your thing. I ended up getting over 100% in this class.
I came into this class with lots of anxiety because of the work load but it's not too hard. Don't stress so much but get your work turned in on time. Accepts no late work. Not a hard class if you just move through it fast but don't fall behind. I got over a 100% in this class with the EC! Take the opportunity to do that and do a GROUP film final!
Fortunato is a good professor. His class is really interesting, especially to those who aren't majoring in film. The class was pretty easy, but be prepared to do something each week (either a discussion board, exam, etc.).
Weekly assignments are discussion posts. Write at least 250 words and you can expect full credit. Professor Fortunato has a lot of interesting insights but for some reason uses lectures from the textbook's author. Exams are online, open note, and mostly right from the lectures. Just don't forget to do a discussion post or exam and you'll get an A.
Relatively easy class, but the lectures can be pretty long for some units and the tests can be very specific. I did almost the bare minimum for this class and ended with an A, as I only did one extra credit assignment although he offered around 6 or so. I recommend printing out powerpoints to use during the test because it is so specific.
Overall his class is pretty easy but him as a person is a completely different story. I have a lot of stories about him so i'll just sum it down to this he's a piece of crap that should be fired, he's like those old racist losers who just watches movies all day and acts like he's a philosopher because of it.
As a non film student, it is lucky to have professor Jose as my FIS 201 professor. He has been very patient to answer all of my questions, a really caring professor! One of the best in ASU! Lecture heavy though! He is great! Take his class and it will teach you each and everything behind the scenes! He is very inspirational and respectful !
Overall is an easy topic, but the lectures are long and the tests are specific (no answers online). I definitely recommend paying attention to deadlines, as there's not a ton graded so missing things will hurt you. He was also a pretty tough grader for writing assignments. I took this as an easy elective and wish I would've taken something else.
A cool class as an elective! Only 3 tests, a few EASY discussion posts, and three writing assignments. Gives a ton of opportunity for extra credit. Don't buy textbook, just listen to all his lectures and take really good notes! You only need the textbook for citations in the writing assignments, so just find it online. Super interesting professor!
If you are really interested in learning something solid in college, Take Joe. He is the best on line instructor (I mean the best) I had in my college career so far. He has a GREAT sense of humor, and this class basically has changed me a lot even as a person. I learned A LOT from this class, other than just film making! LOVE LOVE THIS CLASS!
I took this in Session A. It was really interesting but also incredibly easy! Everything you need to know is in the lectures. Fortunato is almost always available for online office hours. There are 2 Writing Assignments and a Written Final, plus 3 MC exams which are pretty easy. Be careful tho bc some questions are very specific. SO MUCH XC!!!!!!
Whoever said Forutnanto's class is hard is insane to be honest. I am not sure where they are all coming from, but his FMP 201 is so far the most inspirational and interesting class I have taken on ASU on line. He is a pretty busy guy I guess, but he does spend time to answering my dumbest question!
Im 3 days into this online course and I already love it! He is an amazing professor with a deep background in film. His lectures are dense and long but have great information that make them interesting. You can work at your own pace but cannot take tests until they open on the same date for everybody. Highly recommend this course and Professor!
Super fun class! Easy weekly Yellowdig posts, 3 exams, final project. For exams, fill out study guide in its entirety, since that's where he pulls his questions from. I'd suggest buying the eBook. I got my group together in the first month, we were the first to turn in our project for a 10% curve. We had a 108, then changed to 110 since we were 1st
This class was fairly easy for the most part, you will do two discussion board posts on Yellowdig twice a week and you must type at least 250 words. However, you do not have to include references or comment on any other posts. There is one bigger discussion board post and two exams. The exams were pretty easy and you don't need to buy the textbook.
Seriously so easy- take it! Weekly discussion boards on anything you want that has to do with that weeks module and 2 exams that have study guides with everything you need to prepare for. Just do the work and extra credit, you will get over a 100 in the course. You don't need the book, just watch his lectures.
This guy is an online class dream come true. You have weekly discussions about the chapters you read in the book BUT there is no prompt. You can literally talk about anything you want which is awesome. You don't even need to purchase the book if you just watch his video lectures. The easiest A and I walked away feeling like I actually learned!
I see that many people on here give glowing reviews, but I feel that few get to see the rude and pretentious side of him. I've once had to chase him after class to ask him a question he simply did not want to answer. He is full of himself and acts as if he's some film god. Take the class if it is required but do not expect help outside of class.
If your on the fence about adding this class based on reviews ... just take it. GRADES ON IF WORD COUNT IS MET AND THATS IT. So easy 1 discussion a week and one 500 word mini essay. So easy ... I dont know how people dont pass ... seriously. If you cant pass this class with a A+ you shouldnt be in college period.
If you're looking for an easy A take this class, if you're wanting to actually learn something don't take this class. I found this class to be very boring, but the assignments are very easy. You have one discussion post weekly and one other assignment. The book is so boring to read and the lectures are from a guest speaker who isn't interesting.
Easy A and well presented lectures, info is easy to digest and most of it common sense when you consider it. Took this for Summer A online and spent 5 hrs/wk. Great upper level elective to add in with a harder class. 1-2 writing assignments each week with straight fwd expectations; Follow each rubric and you'll get full points. Open note tests.
A Discussion board and or an assignment weekly, only 2 exams total, no quizzes, and an extra credit opportunity. Very easy class, learned some stuff too.
You think by the way he runs his class youd like him. Then you email him about things & your whole perspective changes. There were fires going on in my area, told him Ive been flustered having to evacuate. He told me PLAN AHEAD on hw so I can turn in better assignments. Sorry did you want me to tell the fires to stop?! Not very empathic
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! The lectures are very long and the quizzes ask you for very specific details from the hours worth of lectures. It would not be bad if there were a study guide and slides presented to help you take notes, but you will be on your own. Fortunato does not give lectures or grade papers, so not sure what his involvement is.
He seems passionate and knowledgable about the subject, but the long lectures were boring and not informative enough. We were expected to know about material barely touched on in the lectures (if at all) for exams and writing assignments. Not accommodating to any circumstances (from my experience). Would not ever take a course by him again.
I took this class for session B and it was some work but there are a LOT of extra credit opportunities. There are the weekly discussions but they weren't that bad, you can talk about anything. I would take advantage of the extra credit because I had a C avg for tests but I got an A. Easy A if you don't mind sort of dense lectures, and read the book
There are two easy extra credit assignments at the beginning of the course. Do both of them! It could come back to bite you later. All tests are open-note. The tests are cumulative as well! At times, it is easy to forget you have this course, so set some reminders.
Take this class if you have an interest in film. He has years of experience in Hollywood and the material is dense but digestible. The exams are graded pretty steeply, but there are PLENTY of opportunities for extra credit. As long as you follow the instructions and pay attention to his recorded lectures, you'll pass.
Professor Fortunato is very clear in his expectations and due dates for class. A couple easy reading assignments, which are easy if you up the word count, weekly quizzes which are all open book, and multiple extra credit assignments. Textbook is needed for references in writing assignments. Final was fairly easy and straight-forward.
Save your money, don't buy your book just cite examples from video lectures. The assignments are't really that difficult, the tests are simple because its open note, lockdown browser is not used.
MCO 450 and Professor Fortunato is a winning combination for a Session A or Session B course. The class is very doable online with weekly papers (like 500 words) or a discussion post. You will need the textbook which is very expensive. Grading criteria are clear and the grading is very lenient. Exams are easy and open note.
There are only 3 tests, which aren't that hard, and a discussion board that you only have to participate in a few times throughout the course. Lots of opportunities for extra credit and the exams are open note. You don't need the book, but it's recommended for the essays. Some lectures were very long and some were only 10 minutes. Very easy class!
4 written assignments. 2 exams. 3 discussions w/ response. Most assignments were 200+ word requirement. Super easy class. Just follow the rubric for the assignments. And the extra credit is worth 30 points. Not much feedback on assignments and professor isnt really involved.
Fortunato's class wasn't bad at all! An easy A+ with a simple assignment or discussion every week. Assignment instructions are pretty simple and clear. The book helped me meet the word count (for citing) but you could probably get by without it. Extra credit worth 30 points that I finished in an hour. Take this class if you need an easy class!
Fortunato's class wasn't bad at all! An easy A+ with a simple assignment or discussion every week. The book helped me meet the word count (for citing) but you could probably get by without it. Extra credit worth 30 points that I finished in an hour. Take this class if you need an easy class!
I took FMP 405 topic: Spielberg and Lucas! His lectures were entertaining and interesting. There are three tests, one discussion post a week, and a final project at the end of the course. He gives two opportunities for extra credit. He will constantly post in the discussion board about random funny things and will keep the class updated on tasks
Prof. Fortunato was awesome! :) His Film: The Creative Process class was fun and easy. You do use the textbook for your assignments but you don't have to read the whole thing. He offers multiple opportunities for EASY extra credit. Just take notes of his lectures and you'll pass his 3 exams. He does post study guides as well.
Professor Fortunato has a very straightforward class. This class had a lot of work but you learn a lot and it is clear how to get a good grade. He also responds to emails very quick and is helpful outside of class. You can tell that he has a lot of passion for film and wants you to learn.
Easy class. For FMP 20 just make sure to do discussion posts and quizzes weekly. You also have three writing assignments and three exams that were super easy. I accidentally misread the due date for the last exam and missed it. I emailed him to see if there was a chance to do it (for partial credit) and he still said no. SO NO LATE WORK!
I was trying in work all semester and at the end, he said he couldn't see it so I emailed it all to him and only accepted one assignment for half credit even tho the tech issue is on his end. he said no exceptions for tech issues even though I didn't know about it and did all the work all semester. I was given an EU
He offers multiple extra credit opportunities, and all the resources needed for the assignments are easily accessible. Tests don't require lockdown browser, and the only possible complaint could be that he doesn't accept late work and there's a lot of writing. If you're not prepared to read and write, I don't recommend this course, good luck
I really enjoyed this class! Even though it was online, he made it super fun and engaging and I always looked forward to him posting random things in the announcements. Make sure you read the textbook and do the Yellowdig discussions!! Besides that, this class is an easy A
I loved this class. if you do all of the assigned films, you will learn so much and they are just so good. This was a really fun class. He makes it organized and clear and it is easy to do very well in this class.
Took his Spielberg/Lucas Course as a non-film major and it was a really fun class! It is a ton of reading though so fair warning if you're short on time,I'd say a good portion of my A session went towards keeping up with the weekly workload. Follow the given study guides and you'll do great! Also offers extra credit for completing the project early
This online class was great. The exams were super easy and the writing assignment grading criteria was very clear. As long as you keep up on the easy assignments you'll get an A! I also learned a lot and enjoyed the material.
FMP 201 was great. I learned a lot and it was super interesting. The very few assignments had clear guidelines and there was plenty of time to complete them. 3 easy multiple choice exams, just watch the lectures. and SOOO much extra credit. Definitely recommend.
Professor Fortunato is VERY helpful and responds to any emails quickly. His grading criteria is clear and thorough. 2 discussion posts every week, 3 exams and one final project which was an essay or video. It was a very interesting class on George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, I highly recommend this class and professor Fortunato!
Loved this class! I stressed over it at first because it was 8 weeks but it was very lax. You have a lot of different ways to do the final project which was nice and got me back into video-editing. If you turn it in early as well you get extra points! The class lectures were fun and the professor was very informative about the industry.
Prof Fortunato's FMP201 class was a great experience. With clear assignment guidelines, easy exams, and helpful resources like the textbook and Yellowdig discussions, it's an engaging class that's easy to do well in. unstuckstudy was a handy study tool alongside the lecture notes.
Easiest A ever. Lots of extra credit opportunities, and I had a 101% in the class throughout the whole course. A few east tests and writing assignments that were only like a page long, and one yellowdig each week without prompts, so just write about film.
The class is not hard, and you get a lot of extra credits, but the professor does not help with anything. You are on your own, and besides that he is extremely rude. I would never recommend this class, and I will never take another class with him.
Took his Hollywood Rebels online course for A-session, pretty easy - just 2 lessons per week and a discussion post of 200 words for each lesson due every Sunday at midnight, with 3 exams total. Lot of material each week, though. Professor is just very rude.
3 exams, 3 written papers. Heavy grader on citation for mla. Also there is a lot of chances for extra credit. You learn a lot of how to film a movie. Good class to get your gpa high.
Lots of Writing. Yellowdig discussion required every week. 3 exams which are open notes. 3 Papers. Lots of extra credit. Lecture videos could be better. Professor is accessible through email. Overall if class is required, easy grade, some interesting and useful content, esp. in Textbook and Star Wars video. However if not, consider another class.
You'd have seven assignments due on a random weekday, and for some reason your quizzes are due the same day as your exam. I know that isn't what it's like for in-person students, so it felt strange. He sent us a screenplay because he's "in the Writer's Guild", but it was freely accessible to the public online LOL! I'm actively avoiding his classes.
avoiding his classes in the future.
