I would definitely recommend Dr. Foy for Human Event. He knows A LOT (it's borderline ridiculous) and manages discussion very well. He uses all sorts of random facts to make even the most boring stuff interesting. He's always willing to help with essays. Just dont be a slacker and take advantage of his office hours. His grading is tough, but fair.
Foy is a bunch of fun and wise cracking wrapped in an analitical and philisophical wrapper.
Really fun teacher. He is really engaging in the discussions. The class is mostly participation based so show up and talk. You have to come up with your own topic for the essays, but he approves or rejects your thesis before you start so you should be fine. No pop quizzes and is a pretty fair grader. Makes tons of movie references which is cool.
Dr. Foy is awesome. I took him for HON171 as well. He makes a lot of wisecracks and knows EVERYTHING! He has a Ph.D in astrophysics and teaches a literature class. For papers, go to his office hours. He's really helpful and will usually give you a better grade just for putting in the effort. I'd say he's the best professor I've had at ASU.
Took Dr. Foy for HON 171 and 273. Definitely among the best as far as Human Event professors go...his first year was 2008-2009 and he brings a fresh perspective. Very enthusiastic and knows his what he's talking about. Many readings are online, no actual textbooks. Attend class & take advantage of office hours and you're set in this class.
Foy is AWESOME! He teaches early in the morning, but compared to what I have heard about other Human Event professors, he is by far the best and it is so worth it. I would take his class again in a heartbeat! Go to class, participate (intelligently), and go to his office hours. He is an amazing teacher and equally amazing person.
Dr. Foy is a genius, he really does know like everything. Very helpful in office hours and super funny during discussion. Definitely participate as much as you can. Dont try to act smarter than him because your not and he will make you regret trying. Fantastic professor!
WOW!!! I took this crazy class over the summer and let me tell you because I failed it and let me tell you, I learned more w him in 4 weeks then in a full semester! Going to his study hours is the KEY is getting a good grade! and hes so helpful, truly the DEFINITION OF WHAT A PROFESSOR SHOULD BE! I recommend any class with him! Hes just great!!
I went in knowing very little and took the class to get my SQ credit but I was surprised at just how interesting the class became as the course progressed. Anytime I needed help he was there. He managed to keep all of his lectures extremely interesting which seems hard to do over the summer semester. Learned a lot, would recommend to friend/anyone
He's a great guy but don't be fooled by his laid back attitude in class. You better do the assigned readings and put effort into your writing.
All of these other comments about how interesting the class is might make you want to take this professor, but not only is the participation grade that he gives arbitrary, but he himself told us that he never gives good grades on essays. Avoid at all costs, this will destroy your GPA. Also, when asked for help he just tells you how bad your paperis
I was pumped for this class, but in the end I wasn't all that happy with it. Foy is interesting, but I didn't think his essay critiques helped me improve...and the grades seemed super arbitrary. I got A+s in my other 4 classes, a 90% in this one. It's not easy, but at least it's pretty interesting. Only 2 quizzes so... good if you did well on em.
This is one of the best teachers I have ever had! It was not an easy class (writing is easy for me, but not discussing literature). It's a hard class for engineers, but as long as you read the assigned sections and contribute at least something to the discussion, you'll be fine. Dr. Foy is very entertaining and doesn't lecture. Lots of fun!!
If you are a straight A student, be prepared to get a B. He grades hard but fair. If you want to do good, read up on the material, and do a quick wikipedia/sparknotes lookup on it. Discussion goes into the literature extremely deep, and if you do not have any intelligent comments to add, your participation points will drop your grade.
Dr. Foy is a really fun guy. He does grade pretty difficult compared to the other human event teachers. I think he really enjoys what he does and he is always willing to help anyone. He doesn't check if you read or not, so just use Sparknotes if you are short on time. (except for a random quiz here and there)
Very engaging professor. Knows how to really lead a discussion and always has at least one main point he wants you to get out of a reading. Provides helpful discussion questions. Hard grader on essays, but very helpful during the writing process. Unlike other professors, holds few prejudices. Provides helpful prompts and guidelines for papers.
Awesome! He tries to put most of the readings online so he can keep the costs of books to a minimum. Only about two or three quizzes. Very funny during discussions; tells lots of stories and explains the mathematics/physics parts in the readings very well and makes sure everyone understands. Reading out loud scores you points! Very recommended.
I got a 3.98 GPA first semester because of this guy--literally will not give out A's on essays. I got a 98% in HON273 this spring with a teacher who's lower-rated on RMP, which anecdotally indicates how unfair of a grader Foy is. DO NOT TAKE HIM--he seems like a nice guy, but he will kill your GPA.
I took both semesters of Human Event with Dr. Foy. NOT easy classes in any respect--participation is CRUCIAL, reading is heavy, discussions are in-depth, and the essays are tough. But Foy is jovial, witty, and blew me away with knowledge and helpfulness. Do the reading (all of it!) & follow essay directions. I'm actually going to miss his class!
Dr. Foy is one of the best human event professors around. He is friendly, optimistic, intelligent, and will go out of his way to help you. Very understanding and really nice. I would recommend him to anyone. I even chose him to be my thesis director! He is awesome!
Dr. Foy makes the human event interesting. He is jolly and engaging, and knows a lot about a lot. Be prepared to participate, and definately discuss ALL of your papers with him. He likes the students that do that a lot better, and it will raise your grade too. If you're taking 273, take Foy.
The kid who whined about how he "never gets A's" fails at life. I got not one, but two A's so far on essays. The key to getting an A in this class is saying 2-3 things per class period and seeing Dr. Foy numerous times to discuss essays. He is funny, witty, and extremely helpful.
Dr. Foy is awesome. Take his class!! I promise it is worth the challenge. He is cheerful, knowledgable, and creates a great classroom atmosphere.
Dr. Foy is quite possibly the most awesome teacher at ASU. He is cheerful, intelligent, and entertaining. His class can be difficult, but its nothing that is impossible. Foy is worth the challenge for sure.
Dr. Foy is one of the most well read and knowledgeable people I've met. He's entertaining, and fosters very good discussions. His class is truly interesting if you pay attention and participate.
You'd be "WINNING!" if you took Dr. Foy. Such a fun and smart profesor.
Great teacher, lots of fun and full of information! He's very cultured on movies and books too. HON 171 in general is pretty difficult, but his class is one of the most difficult. He totally grades fairly though, and it's for your own benefit. Love the reading too!
Dr. Foy is the jolliest Human Event professor you can have. His class is extremely difficult, but if you work hard you'll get the grade you deserve. He's a hard grader for papers, and participation points don't come easily, but if you do the discussion boards for the readings you should pad your grade enough to swing at least a B+/A-
Human Event is difficult for sure. Foy is one of the tougher graders, but his class is definitely fascinating. He is a brilliant man and is the most well-read person I've ever met. He's witty, jolly, and hilarious. He doesn't force any particular views on you, but rather guides you towards interpreting main ideas. He dressed up like Shrek once
Let me put it bluntly: if you want to appreciate Human Event and these major historical texts for all that they're worth...take Foy. If you're lazy, disinterested, or just plain don't care, then take someone else.
Key to Foy's class: Go to class and write good essays. Don't procrastinate on the essays like I did. See him during office hours. I didn't read most of the books and came out with a B. Guy's awesome you'll definitely love him.
You'll have to work for that A, sure, but I'd like to point out that even doing minimal work, you can still get a C. And he'll go off on rants too, but over all a great and fair professor. I recommend for someone who is up for a challenge (if not, steer clear).
I loved this guy so much I took him for both sections of human event. He's always smiling, loves to make conversation with students before/after/outside of class, and is insanely knowledgeable. Got a B+/A- (never went to office hours and didn't talk much during discussions), but his class is THE most memorable one I've had at ASU.
I took Dr. Foy's class last semester for HON 171 and I loved it, so even though I'm a social science major, I decided to take his Science Focus class. The readings are a mix of scientific documents (which are hard to discuss) and science fiction (which are awesome). As always, Dr. Foy remains perenially awesome.
He is a very knowledgeable person, and tons of fun to be around. Definitely very helpful as well. Tough grader on the essays, but if you go to office hours and discuss your ideas and thesis, you will do well.
Extremely difficult essay grader but a phenomenal teacher. He may have very high grading standards but his class is enjoyable and entertaining and still worth taking.
Very tough, but fair grader. Participation makes your grade. I had a B essay average, but didn't talk much and ended up with a C+. He is very personable and seems to know at least a little bit of something about everything.
Dr. Foy is a genuinely nice guy and always has a smile on his face! I really had no interest in taking human event, but Dr. Foy always made it entertaining and I was always amazed at how much he knew about everything. He is also really helpful in office hours and offers extra credit. You would be doing yourself a great favor by taking his class!
Foy is a tough essay grader but his feedback is really helpful and definitely helped my writing. I didn't participate much in class, did relatively well on essays (90 avg) ended with a B+, which was a gift i was very grateful for. Put in the time to really analyze and think outside the box for the essays, that's what will get you the higher grades
Dr. Foy is extremely warm, jovial, and bright. Despite being very talkative, he manages to create a great atmosphere for discussion. If you go to him outside of class, he is very helpful with preparing for papers. Dr. Foy was my favorite professor - I took four classes with him, and would definitely recommend.
I loved having Dr. Foy as my professor. He reminded me of my dad, in that I could talk with him, even outside of class, and he was approachable and jovial at all times. He was my favorite professor last year, and I wish I could have gotten to know him better!
It's got heavy reading, much required attendance, and a high essay standard. If you can handle that, a B should be easyish. Don't procrastinate essays, and talk to him about them. Also, try to talk in class. You can slide by with talking once every few classes, but more will help a lot. Use the discussion online. At least skim, and also Sparknotes!
He is such a genius. And SO nice and helpful. Take the hell out of this class. The readings are crazy interesting (so much better than Human Event first semester, which I took with a different prof). I seriously could listen to him talk forever. TAKE HIS CLASS.
He is one of the most brilliant men you will ever meet! He has a PHD in astrophysics yet knows about every piece of literature you could ever hope to reference. He is funny, witty and maintains a lighthearted atmosphere in class. My favorite professor and one of my favorite people! Take this class but be prepared to read, speak up and write.
Dr Foy is an incredibly smart guy. He knows a lot about world literature and history, however he can come off a little arrogant at times. The only reason I didn't get an A in the class is because I didn't speak up as much as I should have. All in all its a good class, but, be prepared for kids in your class who think they know everything.
Dr. Foy was a great professor. He knew his material and was very insightful and funny during class. He is a bit of a tough grader but if you give some effort you'll definitely get a B and have a chance at an A. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and looked forward to them.
Taking Dr. Foy was one of the best decisions I made this semester. He is an astrophysicist yet knows almost everything about classic literature. Class discussions are student led with him as a guiding/helping force and he makes sure that everyone that wants to speak gets a turn. Essays are hard, he gives invaluable help if you go in and see him.
Dr. Foy was an awesome Human Event professor who really knew how to get his students to have productive discussion. He was always open to discuss the students' ideas and interpretations in class, although he tended to be more biased when grading essays. Talk to him for office hours to ensure your thesis is up to par with his expectations.
Dr. Foy was my favorite professor last semester. He's a genius, and that makes this class super interesting. You have to really work for an A, high B's are pretty common. He'll work with you on your papers as long as you come to him with work put into it. Super helpful, willing to be flexible if you need it. His readings are very interesting.
I absolutely loved Foy's class. He is one of the smartest people I've ever come to known, and also has been my favorite professor at ASU. Although his criteria for participation in class and for essays is a bit tough, he is very clear-cut in what he expects of honors students. He often interrupted class to tell us scientific stories.
Like most human event classes, this is not an easy A. Participation is 30%, reflections are 10%, and papers are 60%. You have to talk A LOT (3 or 4 times each class) to get an A in participation and reflections are graded kind of hard, but essays are easy if you go to office hours because he tells you exactly what to write. Would take again!
I took HON171 and 272 from Dr. Foy, he was my favorite professor both semesters. He is insanely smart, genuinely fun to talk to about anything. My classes had great discussions. He can be a picky grader, so talk to him before you write your first essay and use his feedback to improve future essays. His 272 reading material is very science based.
grading is super tough and you have to do a lot more writing than most profs give for human event, but really really awesome guy; he is funny and the class discussions were genuinely interesting. Very science based readings also, so if you are not a science major i do not recommend, but otherwise definitely recommend him
Dr. Foy's class had interesting discussions and he was clearly passionate about the materials presented. However, I found his grading to be unfair and the class was very essay heavy. You grades were based off of 5 reflections about certain texts, 3 essays, and participation. Essays are graded in front of you so be prepared to be roasted big time.
It isn't hard to get through so long as you read the material and actually speak in class. If you say about 1-3 constructive comments per class you can get an easy B. There are weekly reflections about 3 paragraphs long once per week about the reading material and 3 essays. The essays are graded hard and in front of you so beware of that.
Super passionate about the material & knows so much about everything. Definitely humorous and tries to make discussion interesting. However is a lot of work, a decent amount of essays that are graded pretty toughly and lots of smaller summaries to write. Great prof but you have to work for the grade you want. Def recommend seeing office hours a lot
Dr. Foy is an awesome Human Event teacher. Participating in class twice per reading results in a good grade and he truly loves connecting with students to make them analyze material with new perspective. There are three papers worth 20% each so doing well on these results in a high overall grade. Take Dr. Foy if you have the chance!!!
Lots of reading, very blunt and sometimes even rude, but go to office hours!! He is helpful. Goes on long tangents during human event discussion. Kinda a harsh grader. Definitely a heavier course load than other Human Event professors. Despite all this, I still signed up to take him for HON272 cuz he's kinda amazing.
I was with Suk first semester and absolutely hated it. I switched and really enjoyed the class. Hes really nice and you can easily participate without reading the books. If you put some effort into the essays, youll get a good grade. Highly recommend.
Being a business major, Foy's class was difficult at first because all readings & discussions are v scientific. Earning participation is not easy & you have to speak at least 4 or 5 times to get full marks (v hard if you are shy). However, Foy grades essays MUCH easier than most HON 171 profs, and he drops multiple reflections/participation grades.
We had to read a lot of books, very quickly. His class seems more work-heavy than others, but he drops your lowest participation grade about every four classes. He really enjoys teaching students and he's done an excellent job despite going online due to covid. He also emails us extra information outside of class.
I took professor Foy during an all-zoom semester so I can only speak to how he runs his hybrid class, if you are someone who values constructive criticism do not take his class, his comments are primarily negative and seldom offers areas of improvement. in the end he was flexible with grades due to covid, but I still wouldn't take again.
This professor has really changed my life. Dr. Foy is beyond intelligent and I feel I have learned so much from just listening to him speak. It seems he may require more reading than other professors, but don't let that discourage you. This may be one of the few college classes that is actually worth it.
Dr. Foy is a good professor and a good man. His class can be tough with all of the readings and discussions, but honestly, if you just read some SparkNotes, skim the book, and read the quotes that he provides for you before the class, you'll have good participation. He doesn't grade essays too badly, but be prepared to devote time to this class.
Dr. Foy is a nice man. However, he is a harsh grader who gives vague feedback such as "be more specific" or "too specific" for textual analysis. Every essay prompt is on paradox. This course is, really, a love affair with the idea of paradox. Participation is also graded harshly. Despite all of this, he's accessible during office hours.
Initially I was skeptical, but Dr. Foy is actually a really cool guy once you get comfortable. Sometimes his opinions can come off just a little strong, but he's pretty knowledgeable about the content. There is a lot of reading, but as long as you put in the work and participate in discussion, you will get an A or B. Not the easiest, but good.
As with any honors class, the texts are vague and difficult, but the discussion-focused aspect make it open to analysis and easier to understand. He is a tough-grader that makes you work for an A, but in the end, it was doable and overall made me a better critical thinker (cheesy, but true). He tends to drop low grades once in a while(very helpful)
Dr. Foy is a real gem. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met. He is very blunt and honest, but he is also very caring. This class is based heavily on understanding the reading material. The classes are predictable as they are discussions on the material.
Really cares about students' input on readings/grading policies. Syllabus looked a lot harder than it turned out to be; gave automatic 100s to participation and almost all of assignments. Only difficult thing are essays but gives fantastic feedback and drops lowest essay grade out of 3!
Very flexible and not strict at all. Discussions are very interesting and thought-provoking, although I was confused at times, and he's pretty funny. Your grade is pretty much guaranteed to be an A as long as you participate and do the one final group project. The class is chaotic, but fun; however, he does like to remove his mask.
Super amazing and super funny as well. Honestly you dont have to read everything super closely, just pay enough attention in class to come up with some interesting points that relate to the text. A million times better than any human event teacher Ive ever had.
Dr. Foy is easily one of my favorite professors I've had. His class is really fun and I learned so much about literature and history, which are two things that I don't usually pick up easily. All of his readings were interesting and he let us debate topics of our choice. He is super funny and I highly recommend his class!
Dr. Foy is an amazing professor. He always made seminars intriguing and put effort in to make the course enjoyable for us.
THE GOAT. Best professor ever.
AMAZING!! Foy is so much fun and the class discussions are always so interesting! Showing up to class gets you an automatic 80/100 in part pts and speaking up in class raises that. Only 3 essays, super easy hw assignments, drops lowest part grade, generous grader, and he has extra credit opps!
Foy is amazing! Best Human Event professor by far. Very engaging and insightful class discussions will make it the highlight of your semester. He is also very lenient on grades and as long as you participate in class and show clear effort on your essays you will do fine.
I absolutely enjoyed taking this class. Participate and you'll do well. The homework assignments are pretty simple and he drops the lowest essay grade. He grades quite leniently and gives good feedback on how to improve. You have to talk in every other class to do well in discussions. He is an amazing professor!
Very funny in class discussions especially with the TA. Brings up obscure but interesting facts during class like anything from analyzing the Latin roots of a word to how the culture at the time effected the overall message. As long as you read the material and participate in the discussions, you'll do great.
Foy is super kind and a fair, forgiving grader. He really cares about his students and it shows in his teaching. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Foy is a really good human event professor, his class is pretty easy and discussion are typically always fun especially when he goes off on his little tangents. Yes its a lot of reading in the class but a lot of the longer books are split into two days and you typically don't have to read the entire book if its over 120 pages.
Dr. Foy is incredibly knowledgeable and hilarious professor. He sometimes lectures more than faciliates discussion, but will adjust participation points accordingly. His essay grading is very specific but generous in scores. It's easy to get an A in this class if you do the readings and participate, and his office hours are really helpful.
Dr. Foy is easily the best professor I've had so far. His Human Event class is engaging, the material is interesting, and Dr. Foy brings so much personality to the class. There's a lot of required reading and a few essays, but it's all doable as long as you manage your time well and use Dr. Foy's office hours when needed.
Dr. Foy is one of the best teachers I've ever. His discussions are thought-provoking, inclusive, and never awkward. Unlike other profs who railroad you into a strict format, his criteria for essays/HW is refreshingly loose, allowing you freedom with how you analyze. Do yourself a favor and take Foy, his class will really change your perspective.
Dr. Foy was very insightful and taught everyone in his class a lot about the assigned topics. Discussion was typically science based, which I found to be very interesting. On top of that, he is lenient in how he grades the course, while still teaching all of his students on a deeper level. Take Dr. Foy if you want a great human event teacher.
Dr. Foy allows you to have an enriching and valuable Human Event experience without having to worry about your grade. While you still have to work and participate, the primary thing you have to do in this class is prepare to have a great time with enjoyable discussions and thought-provoking perspectives. Office hours also so helpful. Love Dr. Foy!
Dr. Foy is absolutely incredible. HON 171&272 are by no means easy classes, but they are incredibly rewarding for those who make an effort. Dr. Foy is caring, patient, and incredibly intelligent. He will push you to become a better writer and critical thinker. I never thought a glorified book club would be my favorite class, but here we are.
Dr. Foy is hands down the best Human Event professor. Rather than looking to torch your grade, he seeks to develop your mind and explore your ideas. I was shy going into this class, but I ended up loving it. If you take some time to do the readings, you will become a much better reader, writer, and thinker. You won't regret taking Dr. Foy.
Just put in the work then you will have an extremely enjoyable human event experience
Foy is one of the best professors! You are expected to read a fair amount but no more than most HE classes. His papers are not super hard if you go to his office hours and talk to him about your ideas. He does expect more than just talking to get full participation points so be prepared to do some actual analysis. Super funny and great stories!
Foy is a great, funny HE professor - passionate about the readings & has a lot of background knowledge. Lowest out of 3 essays dropped (I didn't write a 3rd), recommend 2-4 comments per class, best 10 HW assignments graded, can miss 2 classes per sem. Good amount of reading. Definitely take him - I would for HON272 but my schedule didn't match.
Dr. Foy is one of my favorite professors. He's a great guy, super knowledgable about everything from Astrophysics to Classic Literature, I have yet to find a topic he doesn't know much about. He's also super willing to help out with essays if you go to his office hours. It's not an easy class, but I'm glad I took it.
Very funny, intelligent, and down-to-earth. A lot of reading but has very forgiving assignment and grading policies. He selects interesting readings centered around science and never fails to make discussion interesting and engaging. He's a great professor who's both very relaxed and offers great feedback and expects the best from his students.
Dr, Foy is AMAZING. He is really funny and so passionate about the readings that you can't help but get invested! Grading wasn't too bad either as everything felt fair and the essays were pretty simple for someone who is really bad at essays. He'll make you work for a A but it is very doable, 10/10 recomend!
Foy is a great guy. While its still a tough class, he made what would normally be a headache into a fun and interesting class with real literature that considers many different perspectives. There were a few essays but the last score is dropped to favor your best work. Expect some tough work but this isn't a class to torture you, rather TEACH you.
Dr.Foy is amazing I was very scared for my Human event class and I'm so thankful I chose Foy. His lectures are so interesting and informative. All the texts we read in class are great picks. He cares about his students and does a lot to help if they are struggling in class. Would recommend taking him.
Dr. Foy is an amazing professor—engaging, funny, and genuinely caring about his students He fosters interesting discussions and provides fascinating, easily accessible reading materials. I found all of mine online saving me $ Foy is approachable and offers valuable feedback on queries. I would definitely take his class again if given the chance!
I was in a Study Abroad program this summer; he was one of the professors. Though the class material was difficult, Dr. Foy made it digestible and very organized. He is helpful, caring, and is fair to each student.
Dr. Foy is the best! He pushes his students to go deeper in discussions, which overall helps everyone grow, but it can seem intense. He cares about his students and wants them all to do well. He gives great feedback and is easy to make appointments with for office hours. He is super funny and engaging during class. You won't regret taking Foy!
Foy is a really cool guy who makes sure that students understand the reading. The workload is pretty light, with 3 one-paragraph assignments and 3 essays due throughout the semester. Participation in class can be a large grade so talk 3-4 times to get a 100. Overall he's really likable and if you go to office hours he can really help.
Dr Foy is a great professor and very approachable and his classes are engaging. Participation is 30% of the grade; he drops the lowest participation for every 4 classes. If reading/talking's not for you, just find 2-3 great quotes for every class and talk about those and you're done. He drops 1 of the 3 1600w essays and there are 3 350w writings.
Take advantage of his office hours. He doesn't have A+/- so As are just 90%+.
Dr. Foy is a great professor who has a fun and engaging class. He might seem intense at times but it is only because he wants to push his students to discuss the deeper meaning of things. Pretty lenient grader and he is also hilarious, which makes the discussions more interesting. Overall, I would recommend taking his class.
Professor Foy was amazing! He genuinely cared about all of his students and made sure everyone could speak for participation. Three papers but the lowest score gets dropped. Three "reading responses" but the lowest also gets dropped. Lowest participation from the two weeks is dropped too. Can't rely on Canvas grades tho bc of the weighting.
Dr. Foy was a kind, caring, and engaging professor. Even though the course required a lot of reading before each class, the discussions were engaging, and you only had to give around 2-3 class comments to receive an A for the discussion. His essays were graded harshly, but he gave tremendously insightful feedback.
Foy is a nice guy, and from what I can tell, one of the better professors for this class. He's rather chill and makes discussions a pleasure with his interdisciplinary knowledge. He grades essays a smidge hard side - I never got above a B - but other assignments kept up my grade. As for reading, that's the joy and pain of any Human Event class.
Dr.Foy was an amazing professor to take for Human Event. The readings were sometimes heavy around 80 pages, while others were shorter. His class environment makes it comfortable to speak, and he always had good commentary and was funny. Loved him and would take it again.
Dr. Foy is great. I really enjoyed his class. He is funny and engaging. He makes sure everyone gets a chance to share their thoughts. He is always encouraging the students in many ways. I highly recommend.
Professor Foy brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his HON171 class. While the readings can be extensive, his engaging lectures and willingness to help make it an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I'd recommend using unstuck AI alongside other study tools to ace this class.
Dr. Foy is extremely knowledgable about each topic that he covers, and he also very engaging. Although the class required a lot of reading, I recommend 2-3 class comments in order to receive a high participation grade. Even though he is a tough grader, he drops the lowest of his 3 Human Event essays, and he provides really good feedback.
I took Dr. Foy's class in the Spring, and he was the best. He was really patient, and if you do not understand something, he will explain it to you.
I personally loved this guy. He's very nice and INCREDIBLY smart, and it just shows when he speaks. He's very passionate. I will say, it's A LOT of reading. A LOT. Every class is a discussion on the recent reading, so I say speak twice saying something new/meaningful and you're good. Theres also 3 5/6 page essays, and then 3 reading responses too.
I absolutely loved Foy! I'm not really into reading and discussions, but he made the class really engaging! So much reading, but, as long as you participate 2 times most classes, put effort into the reading responses and essays, and actually use his feedback, it's a pretty easy A (need 90%-100%). Especially compared to other teachers. Lovely guy!
Dr. Foy is very knowledgable on every topic we discussed in class. While it was daunting at first to lead discussions and write the essays, he was always willing to give feedback and encourage you to continue your thoughts. Definitely a deeper conversation about the texts. If you don't like participating much, this isn't for you, but I enjoyed it!
