He talks slowly and repeats himself a lot. I know he knows a lot, I wish he'd tell us about all the cool stuff he knows instead of repeating himself. The tests (2) are pretty easy and the grading isn't too harsh on the (2-3) papers, either.

Really boring but you learn the material and he is an easy grader. what more can you ask for.

If you attend class, pay attention, and read the chapter summaries, you will do very well in the course. He does repeat himself but he also provides a study guide before each exam. He makes a tough subject easy.

He is VERY easy, but VERY boring. Definately an easy A, but bring somthing to do during lectures. Only 2 exams based off a study guide and one easy paper.

He is an awesome professor, he may be a little dull but very humorous at times. Always gave second chances and made class informative yet simple, dont take anyone else!!

If you plan on majoring/minoring in this field, I would recommend him for learning the basics. He makes the subject fun (as long as you pay attention). He does repeat himself, but wouldn't you rather have that, than say a teacher that you couldn't understand one bit?

Interesting subject, boring lectures. Very nice, easy going guy, funny at times. Had 2 tests, 1 take home exam, 2 papers. Allows extra credit. Overall good class!

VERY EASY PROFESSOR. Subject was really boring and he talked on and on in monotone. But his class is an easy A. Very easy paper to write on and two exams that are based on his study guide. If you want an A, take his class.

Prof. Gaughan has a good heart. He does his best to suggest interesting reading. However, he is an incredibly boring lecturer, so used to recitation, that one can engage in paper airplane fights in his class, and he will not notice. His coursework is easy and attendance grades are not particularly important. He is not inspiring, but is dedicated.

His exams come straight from the lectures. I did not read the assigned text reading after I discovered the pattern. He has a passion for language, and wishes for students to excel. He may be dry but he means well.

The class was pretty boring, and going to every class seems like a waste. Parts of the class were interesting- the first time they were stated. Overall the class was alright, but don't go to class tired.

Slow? Yes, but not too boring or dry. I wish he would have made the immature brats behind me shut up, because if you pay attention his humor is actually very witty and intellectual. Knows his stuff, take a lot of notes and show up - you won't need the book. Great for intro class, easy for those who write well. A fascinating person for anthro majors

Good teacher. 2 test, 2 papers, and a take home final. Easy class if you attend class, take good notes, and are good at essays. Most of the exam questions are right out of his notes.

Easy class. Do not buy the text books. 2 easy tests, 2 written papers. The 2nd written paper can be subsitituted for the final. Recommend taking this prof. If you want to learn then go to class, if you want an A and don't really care about learning, just come on the review days.

Grades easy on the papers but tough on tests. Make sure you do the extra credit. A B is easy but you need to work for an A. I don't know why everyone said he was an automatic A....alot of people got B's who expected A's

This was the easiest class I've ever taken. Dr. Gaughan is such a nice and funny guy. There are five quizzes. He curves so that even if you get half the questions wrong, you'll still get a B on the quiz. There's a presentation which was a lot of fun to do. I put minimal effort into this class and pulled an A. It's impossible not to.

It was my first year and I went to this guys class three times, once for the midterm, the final, and to turn in the term paper. I got an A. Literally the easiest class at UMD.

This is THEE most boring class. You only need to go on review days. He gives 2 tests (not as easy as I expected), 2 papers EZ! one can b used for final. and 1 take home final...EASY (1 1/2 pgs 2x spaced) Reccomend this class although it is incredibly BORING! interesting subject though.

I love this man, and I could listen to him lecture all day long. He is a fountain of knowlege, and fortunately he really loves to talk. He has a PhD from an IVY league school and is super generous with his knowlege. I would like to take EVERYTHING he teaches. I don't hear the monotone that other people talk about. He inspires me to learn more.

I worship the ground this man walks on. I am a member of Mensa so I really appreciate learning from a Columbia PhD. I want to take every class he teaches.

Class is packed. Lets you do lengthy research papers instead of final exam if you choose. Allows extra credit. Super smart man. The subject matter may not be your cup of tea, but if you like the subject you'll like the prof.

The guy is really slow!!! it is so hard not to fall alseep when he is talking.. he curves, and thats the best thing about him..for all lazy people out there that are not interested in studying for an exam, This is the class to take! EASY A. Ps. Do Not try to be a smart A** he doesnt like that and he will put you down easily! ;)

Hes a decent professor, he goes by the book alot. I wouldn't reccomend standing to close to him. He grades on a curve, so its pretty hard to fail. Most of his info comes out of the book, going to class is pretty pointless.

you dont need to go to class. read the text book for the exams. paper1=15% of grade, exam1=15% of grade, paper2=25%, exam2=25%. take home final. do your part and you'll get an A, nbd.

Easiest class I took! U only need to show up for exams and reviews. 2 essays, 2 tests, for final pick either a short paper and take home final or a 6 page essay. Read the book for tests and u'll get B/A since he curve's it. Also gives tons of extra credit. Talk to him if u have problems, he's extremely helpful!

EASY TEACHER! Don't EVER go to class. 2 papers, 2 exams, extra credit. Never replies to e-mails, post final grades literally a week after it was due. Checks papers like 3 months into the semester.EASY A!

He is a really great professor. He is one of those professors who just wants there student to learn and reach their goals. Hes super easy. Two papers, which he grades really easy on. Two exams which he curves REALLY well. I got an A. Talk to him, and he will like you!

He strays off topic on these completely boring in depth tangents vaguely related to class topics - but rarely anything he will ask about on the exam. I got an A-. This class was great bc you dont have to go to every session to get a decent grade.

Dr. Gaughan is very interesting and Funny! If you listen to him - he has a very intelligent subtle humor. His is Class Act! His grading on papers is very generous and there is tons of extra credit. He loves teaching and his stories in class are very interesting. He is super nice and laid back. Take him and have fun in his class!

The lectures were sometimes boring, but this professor did have some good stories. Overall, very nice guy. Attendance was not really important. I kept up with the reading assigned and did not take many notes and did well on the midterm. The final was a paper.

Very intelligent with subtle humor keeps you listening. Very generous grader. Seems to enjoy teaching and really wants the students to get the material. I will definitely take his classes again!

This professor is an EXTREMELY generous grader!!! This definitely made up for the sometimes boring lectures. He is a really nice guy and wants his students to succeed. He gives TONS of extra credit and grades on a curve. I would recommend him.

Professor Gaughn is very nice, but the class was veryyy boring. Even for me, and I am an Anthropology student. But it is an easy A course. I believe we only had like 2 test and 2 papers. And he graded the test on a curve

His lectures are so boring might as well download a few good games so you have something to do, other than that great teacher. He might talk about some disturbing things every once in awhile but he's alright.

You have never had a more boring class than this. Showed up to class maybe every other week. Never bought the books. Just googled the terms on his vocab list "study guides" before tests. Got a B+ on both the tests and an A on the paper.

fantastic prof!

The class consist of a take home midterm, which is 5 page paper. A ten page take home final and a one page paper for every film watched. Don't expect to get a response from any emails, but he is available during office hours. Overall this is a pretty laid back class and other for the midterm, nothing is due till the last day of class. Have fun!

All I can say is that this class was unbelievably boring, but so easy. I never went to class besides the day before and day of exams. The tests are so easy. You have a few essays to do that are annoying, but he's a reasonable grader, it just takes FOREVER to get it back.

The professor is a cool guy just very MONOTONEd, but sometimes tries to throw in a few funny jokes. Graded on 2 tests and 3 papers which takes him forever to grade so you never know what you have. Showed up every class and studied the study guide for a week and still got a D on the exam, but I think theres a curve, so... Good luck

I was sitting outside alone, he sat beside me and began eating his pork chips.. my first impression was 'k.' I was feeling different from everyone since i had just transferred--he noticed &began an inspirational conversation with me about languages .. i found him so genuine &decided to take his class where my impression of him was confirmed

Professor Gaughan is very knowledgeable, and cares about the success of his students. If you have any problems or questions he tries to find the best solution. The class includes long lectures that are boring sometimes but carry a lot of interesting/useful facts that one would never have known. Class consists of two tests &2 papers. Not difficult
