I had him Fall 2010 for Calculus. Not only is he super nice, but he's really, really helpful. He's so enthusiastic about Calculus, which translates into his lectures. If you go to class, pay attention, take notes, and ask for help when needed, you WILL do well. He's young, relatable, awesome, and a great teacher. DEFINITELY TAKE HIS CLASS!
Really nice and helpful guy. Explains things well. Obviously very intelligent and super willing to help you so you do well. Definitely take his class if it's an option.
This class is hard. The notes don't really prepare you for the quizes. He doesn't give thorough explanations. I studied for hrs, went to tutoring, TA & still got an F by midterm. I had to drop this class. I learned more from my tutor in 1 hr about logs than I did this whole semester. You have to do ALL of the work yourself.
Hamelman is a really chill guy- if you need help, he'll help you. He's also really friendly and understanding about things like homework. I really hate math, but I love going to his class.
He is a great math professor! Very helpful, patient, and nice. I came into college not having math since 10th grade and I am making an A. He's great, I'm hoping to get him for Pre-Calculus 151.
Dr. Hamelman is a genius, but he is so down to earth that he can explain everything very clearly. He is entertaining, and really enjoys math. He'll say something is fun, and make you believe it. Recommended for sure, but be polite to him, because he certainly deserves it. He'll do everything he can to help you understand the material.
He is a great math professor! Very helpful, patient, and nice. if you need help, he'll help you he is most willing to work with your schedule if his office hours are not convenient. If you have the option to choose your professor sign up with Joseph Hamelman.
Professor Hamelman is a great math teacher. Teaches the material clearly, extremely helpful, and excited about the subject. Quizzes are once a week and are straight out of the h/w. Test aren't too difficult if you have done your homework/studied.
This guy is awesome! I loved every minute of his class. He loves math and teaches extremely well! You can tell he is excited about math! Took this class for 4 weeks over the summer. We had a test every week. The material was easy to understand and he makes it even easier. Great class. Great professor.
He is amazing. Would definitely recommend him. The quizzes and tests questions come directly from the homework. Also, in class, he does an amazing job of explaining things. Really enjoyed this class!
This man is an amazing professor. Not only does he make sure you know the material, he goes above and beyond to be there if you need a little extra help. He's great about keeping up with emails as well. If you have to take a math course and he's one of the teachers, chose him!
Attendance mandatory but its necessary - this isn't your everyday common sense material. The class was interesting and fun. Be prepared to take lots of notes. Great professor great teaching style. Class is not as hard as people make it out to be
Prof. Hamelman is a wonderful instructor. He loves every single bit of what he does and it clearly shows in his lectures. Take good notes, ask questions, visit during office hours (he loves that), and you will do fine! MATH 211 isn't your typical mathematics course, but he is there every step along the way to make sure you understand the material.
Dr. Hamelman is literally the nicest and most caring person in the whole world. He gets genuienly worried for you when you don't understand. All he wants to do is help, I do recommend him.
Amazing math teacher. He's incredibly helpful and such a nice person! Very approachable. Just make sure to respect him in class and not talk or interrupt him. He will, and should, not tolerate it and will call you out!
He is a nice guy and a good teacher. I got MATH 141 with him. If you are bad or good in MATH just take him.. he helps you even in exams if you are confused about any question..
Great teacher. Genuinely wants his students to do well and does everything he can to help.
Hamelman is a great teacher! He really knows his stuff. My class was his first time teaching a huge lecture class and he did great. If a student was to ask him a question, he would stop and re-explain whatever it is until that student knows what he/she was doing. He review sessions really helped as well.
All around he is an ok teacher. He has horrible handwriting and he rushes through his lectures without fully explaining each problem. He does have review sessions but they are not that helpful.
The best math professor at VCU. He cares so much about his students and their grades and explains everything so well. I got A's on every test and on the final. Take him, you won't regret it. He also made my class food once when we went to his review session, I love this guy. I wish he taught Math 200 this semester.
Hamelman is the best math professor I've ever had. He's very clear with the concepts and is always willing to answer questions. His examples are very thorough and very informative. All in all, it was a great experience being in his class. He's very very interested in the subject and takes a lot of interest in the students.
Hands down the best math professor at VCU. He is extremely enthusiastic about Mathematics and actually made me want to learn. His tests are not too difficult; he takes questions right off of the worksheets. Any bad grade I made in the class was my mistake, not because he didn't teach it well. Fantastic teacher! Take Mr. Hamelman as much as you can!
He started off as a good professor but toward the middle and the end of the class, he began rushing through lectures. Didn't fully explain lessons. One thing that really bothered me is that he would start a new lesson during the last 3 minutes of class.
Hamelman was awesome! Very personable, wants you to succeed. Fast writer, but you get used to it. Don't be shy about questions & help; loves class discussions & participation. Do MML for practice and to pad your grade. Do the worksheets for quiztest prep. Expectations are clearly defined, exam hints are given frequently during lecture. :)
An awesome professor who understood the honors kids weren't math majors but still tried to keep it interesting while covering topics that he was passionate about. He truly cares about how students are doing in his class and wants us to get good grades and made an A very achievable.
Professor Hamelman explains things in such a clear matter it's almost impossible to not understand (unless you're not paying attention). He is very passionate about teaching and is always willing to help. I wish he taught calculus, I would definitely take him again.
Seriously awesome. So nice and tries to be funny, makes the topics really interesting and really really does his best to help you out. You won't regret having him.
He's a great math professor!! TAKE HIM!
I am almost certain that I've never had a math professor, or a professor in general more passionate about the subject that they teach. He will tell you every lecture how much he loves teaching calc III, and he isn't kidding. His lectures are very fast paced, so be ready to write down notes since it's a very dense course. Favorite word: partition.
Great professor and human being, he is very clear on what you need to know. Would take every required math class with him if I could.
The best for Multivariate. Highly recommended.
Hamelman is the first great college professor I've had as a freshman, he does everything he can to make sure every student thoroughly understands the material provided, I highly recommend.
HAMELMAN IS BAE. He has a low-key passion for math & teaching- treats his students with total respect & is always there to help (even through email). Great sense of humor, great teacher, great notes. Math is usually the most boring class for me, but I really looked forward to going to his class! i wish i could have the chance to take him again!
He is the best Math teacher i've had. He knows his stuff and really cares about teaching. I would totally recommend him. He is always available for office hours. I can't stress enough TAKE HIM if you aren't the best in math.
Hamelman is a god among men. He is really caring and spends time to write the notes and go through every topic and he teaches with a lot of passion. I completely recommend him. You need to do the WebAssign online homework and inclass worksheets which the clickers are based on, which aren't too hard and he has several review sessions to help.

I recommend Professor Hamelman to everyone, he is great at explaining math. Tests aren't hard they are like the worksheet and homework sometimes requires great amount of time , provides extra credit for doing test reviews. He is very friendly nice and knowledgable. Our class averages on test ranged from 80%-90%
He's a phenomenal teacher. His lectures aren't always the most exciting, but his teaching is excellent. He's very caring and an inspiration. Provides a lot of extra credit on exams if you complete test reviews on WebAssign. Does clickers and it counts for a decent amount of the grade. Would recommend him!
Hamelman is AMAZING! He is very helpful and makes math fairly easy. A long as you attend lectures and really put effort into the worksheets you will without a doubt pass his class with an A or B. There is nothing unexpected on his tests, everything you will have seen and learned thoroughly. Go to class because he does have clickers. He's the BEST!!
One of the best math teachers ever! I wish i could take him for ever math class! 100% take him if you can! If you go to class and listen it's almost impossible to not understand him . Great at explaining!
He honestly is an amazing professor. He is very helpful and thoroughly explains the topic and gives so many examples for students to learn from. He tries his best to get to know the students and is just all around an amazing professor.
Let me start by saying that if I could have him be my math teacher for the rest of my college career, I'd be ecstatic! He is very clear and very helpful. Him and his TAs have multiple review sessions. DO THE TEST REVIEWS ON WEBASSIGN! Great practice and easy extra credit points. Go to class to get clicker points even though the notes are online.
Great lecturer, who explains material in an easy to understand way. He's enthusiastic and willing to help. Tests come straight from in class assignments, so go to class. Clicker points are also worth a significant portion of your grade. Do the test reviews cause they're worth a lot of extra credit (saved a few of my tests).
He is AMAZING. He is so enthusiastic and excited to help, and really is there for the students. I once sent him a lengthy email 2 hours before the assignment was due about a question I had, and he replied in ten minutes with a huge paragraph completely explaining how to get the answer. He's just awesome.
He is a VERY energetic, caring, passionate, intelligent, and humble person. He will make sure you understand what he is trying to teach before you move on. He teaches with passion. Go to his class, take notes, do the clicker questions, you will do very well on the homework assignments and exam, I am not a math person but I aced every exam!! :)
Joe was really stern and seemed kinda tough at the beginning, but he is a phenomenal teacher, explains hard concepts effortlessly, responds to emails fast, and gives extra credit. I barely went to class, so my clicker point attendance grade sucked, but overall, the class was great.
I think that Joe was a good teacher however he moved a little too fast for me. The first few weeks were extremely difficult and it was a lot of information crammed on to our first test. It also helps if you don't take this class in the spring because if there is a snow day - everything will be sped up which makes it more difficult to learn.
Hamelman is one of the best professors I've had. He's friendly, passionate about the subject, and puts a lot of effort into making the material accessible. He's readily available via email, office hours, and review sessions. Expectations are clear and tests are straight forward. I would take him for all of my math classes if I could.
Hamelman is AWESOME. He loves teaching and helping his students. His lectures are straight forward and as long as you pay attention in class and take notes you'll do great. I wish he was teaching calc next semester. I would've taken him. He is amazing. Take him!! You won't regret it.
I love this man! I took his 151 class in the spring and now am a TA for him this fall and I love it! He's honestly the best teacher I've had. He's good at explaining things, and really makes sure the student understands the materials. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!! It really helps for the tests, it's 8 extra points.
Great professor for summer math 151
He is a truly passionate professor. Would recommend his class to anyone. As long as you show up and complete the ALEKS homework, you will earn at least a B.
Great professor!!!!!! This class is easy A and you dont have to waste money on textbooks it lit!!
he is so CUTE! he cares so much about his students and really loves what he does for a living. Great teacher, just show up to class and ask questions whenever you're confused, and you should be fine. Study the worksheets!
He is an AMAZING professor. He posts his lectures on blackboard so if you miss a class, its okay. The tests are what he teaches and if you look over the notes before exam day, you will be perfectly fine. He also cares about everyone and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!!
He lectures every class and you NEED to take notes! He gives out worksheets that you can complete with your group, usually during class. Very little out of class work! Only two exams but the study guides are very similar. One simple group project that spans the whole semester. He's a nice and funny guy!
He's a great professor BUT YOU CAN NOT SKIP CLASS. I made the mistake to miss class more than often and my grade suffered for it. I have to repeat the class again in the spring but I knew it was my fault for not putting in the effort not Prof Joe as a professor. Take him, go to class, take the notes and STUDY. And you'll pass.
LOVED HIM! He knows how to teach in a way that students understand. He goes quick though so be prepared to go through a section each class. Clicker questions are a thing in this class so be prepared!
Joe is an amazing professor. Most of final grade is tests, but his tests are exactly like the worksheets done in class. He posts all notes and worksheet answer keys online. He uses ALEKS as supplemental for homework. He is really approachable and will help if you have any issues. If you study the worksheets you'll be fine.
Amazing Professor! He's very considerate, and is easily accessible outside of class. He hosts review sessions where you can ask questions about the ALEKS homework. Whenever we have questions in class, he's never condescending, and makes sure to answer the question fully, by writing the problem on the board and explaining the steps to solve it.
Joe is the best math teacher I've ever had! His lectures are really straightforward and he made me understand things that I never really got until he taught! Take him!!!!!
I've taken pre-calculus before in high school but if I hadn't, he would have been the perfect teacher to start with! Subjects were clear and lectures were concise. He is one of the few professors that genuinely care about students' learning experience. Follow along on ALEKS, attend class regularly, do the worksheets, and the tests will be a breeze!
I don't think I've ever met a professor who loves his job like Hamelman. He's awesome. He's straightforward, his lectures were so easy that I actually enjoyed learning. There's 3 tests and an accumulative final and I'd recommend coming to class, he's always friendly with extra credit clickers. Extra credit ops on the tests (up to 10 pts!).
Hamelman is a great professor for pre-calc. It's obvious that he really cares about his job and about his students. He explains concepts clearly; I really like the way he teaches.
Very good professor! I'm not very good at math, but he made the subject so much more understandable. He was available to talk during office hours and would give multiple examples to help you understand the content. The tests and homework assignments were based off what was taught in lecture. Material can be confusing, so it is best to attend class.
Super awesome professor! He is very helpful and willing to work out multiple problems with you to ensure that you understand
Cool guy, never talked to him because he doesnt lecture for this class. He will do lectures in the back to people who want to listen, all your work is done online on ALEKS. You don't have to show up, but you are counted for attendance so it's recommended. He's super invested in his job, do the extra credit and the worksheets are the test!
If you go to his mini lectures, do ALEKS, and review the worksheets you'll get an easy grade
Professor Hamelman is the best math teacher I've ever had. I took Math 307 over the summer and he made it enjoyable and I didn't mind going everyday. He is a very passionate teacher and actually cares if you understand the material. It's a hard class regardless, but he takes AMAZING notes, so if you study those and worksheets you'll be fine.
Great Guy.
First of all, Hamelman is GREAT at explaining! He does mini-lectures in a separate room where you aren't obligated to watch and listen, but everything he teaches is important and stuff that shows up on the test. If you miss the lecture, he uploads it onto blackboard. The tests are straightforward and exactly the same format as the practice sheets.
Hamelman is a great professor. Very heavy in homework, and tests are graded harshly in my opinion. I learned a lot from him!
Outside of his mini-lectures, you wouldn't know he was a teacher. Essentially the class is online, and the only grade outside of the computer is attendance. The tests are easy if you do the practice tests, which have uncanny similarities (usually the numbers are switched around).
I was extremely lucky to receive Hamelman for math 200. I was really worried going into the class, but he is always prepared to answer questions and explain topics very clearly.
As a student who's not that good at math, I had the misfortune of picking Dr. Hamelman as my DiffEQ professor. To be honest, I've taken this class at VCU with other professors and Hamelman is by far the hardest. He goes in depth into linear algebra and multivariate calc concepts (and tests you on them). If you just want to pass, don't take him.
Worst professor ever do not take him, barely teaches anything in class and Aleks is a waist of time. Practice test dont match up to actual test..
Took for calc3. Gives very little partial credit, and will take off significant amounts for notation errors (forgetting a vector hat). Uses the absolute hardest derivative and integration rules from calc1 and 2. Not understanding of major extenuating life circumstances. He's a good lecturer! But a pretty harsh person. Proof-oriented lecture styles.
This professor is brilliant! He explains the math well. I had him for calc III. Im so glad I did because I truly understood the material. When I struggled with line integrals, he was so patient and kind with explaining it again to me during his office hours. Definitely very difficult material and he definitely has high expectations of his students
he's passionate about the material but could be hard to understand sometimes. he goes by the book too much and very notes heavy. could bore you sometimes. do his worksheets and quizzes and HW, practice as much you can and go to office hours, maybe you'll succeed.
Great professor! Will answer any questions you have. It is a challenging class but he is always open for office hours and will help you with anything you need. As long as you go to class and study you should do well!
Use an AI program that teaches you, not the professor. The professor is good at teaching (mini-lessons) and knows his stuff. Very transparent. Hard material. Keep a notebook with all the lessons the program gives you.
One of my favorite professors I've taken at VCU. Makes time to meet with his students in addition to office hours. Very passionate about math. No graded homework, but he does give you worksheets with practice problems. Do the worksheets! He uses similar problems on the exams. He does prove theorems in class, but you aren't tested on the proofs.
This class is entirely online, they use a third party system called ALEKS. However, they still make attendance mandatory (You show up and work on your laptop). If you have an understanding of algebra you'll do fine with a bit of studying. This class is easily passable with little to no effort so long as you're good at math.
This entire class was entirely online on a program called ALEKS. I probably didn't speak to the professor the entire semester. You go into the class and just sit on your laptop, doing work. You have to physically go to class because they record attendance with top hat that finds your location.
The class is all online through ALEKS. He does in person lectures(optional), but you basically show up to class and do the work on ALEKS. He takes tophat attendance. The material can get hard but he explains well and there are 4 exams and a final.
151 at VCU is a 'take care of yourself' course, but he does his best to give his time to students and review tests with you to understand the material. I had him for both 141 and 151, I wish he taught higher math, very friendly and caring teacher that wants you to succeed.
Professor Hamelman is great! He is always there to help and explains topics thoroughly. His lectures are slow, and have minimal interaction besides the chat, which I personally don't like. 201 is a really hard calculus class and you have to put in the work to get a good grade.
I wouldn't have passed Calc without him. It's a tough class but he has amazing lectures. You're going to be taking notes the whole time but his pacing is good and he make sure you understand the topic before moving on. Makes learning easy and takes time after class to answer questions.
Dr. Hamelman explains concepts thoroughly & makes sure all questions are answered before he moves on. He creates a relaxed environment that makes students feel comfortable asking questions. The homework is done on MyMathLab which is annoying at times, but overall a great class & not too much work. Only got a B because I didn't study for the final.
Professor Hamelman is patient and helpful. Take his class. Youll be glad.
Hamelman is one of the, if not the best math professor/teacher I have ever had the pleasure of taking a class with in my life. One of the sweetest professors at VCU.
Professor Hamelman was always accessible, especially outside of class hours. He was caring and made the class workable, even though it was online. He truly is invested in his students and I would strongly recommend taking him for any class.
I took him for a summer course so it was a lot faster than usual, but he always made himself available and was very accommodating. There were 3 tests, a final, and cengage webassign homework. All of the zoom meetings were posted online along with the notes for if you missed a class.
Do not take this professor. Terrible at explaining things and not caring. Sometimes didn't respond to my emails at all or took a while to respond when I asked for help. Went to tutoring, the math center, and to his office hours. Still got a 67.5 which is two points from a C. Have to take the class again and I'm upset. The class made me stress/sad.
This was one of the most straight forward classes I have taken. As long as you show up to class and participate/ pay attention then you should pass. Professor Hamelman did a great job of explaining things, and went over lots of examples which was helpful. I just reviewed my notes to study for tests and quizzes.
Great professor who genuinely cares about your progression in his course. He made it much easier to learn math even though it was an online course. Would definitely recommend him.
Very good and accommodating teacher, lectures are really helpful and explains things very well and with detail. Homework and tests reflect the study guides and class content well. Seems like a good guy overall.
If you don't adore math don't register with him . I have never said that ! but that's the worst experience I had by far. He wants us to study 100 hours a week and cancel our lives to pass. Don't expect to get A. Expect nightmares every night ! Run ! Run ! Don't expect extra credits! Run !
Avoid him
Avoid Joseph Hamelman at all causes. Your grades are mostly from tests which he grades very harshly. His teaching is fast-paced lecture-style teaching that is hard to comprehend and is generally a bad teacher. The notes for his class are prewritten ahead of time but he expects you to copy them in 10 seconds, also his handwriting is awful.
Avoid Joseph Hamelman at all costs. Your grades are mostly from tests which he grades very harshly. His teaching is fast-paced lecture-style teaching that is hard to comprehend and is generally a bad teacher. Calc II is a pretty difficult class and he tries to explain it the best he can. Your grade is based on 3 tests, participation uploads, and homework. Class is basically him going thru notes and practice examples, but highly recommend not skipping lecture (at least go back and watch the recording). Really nice guy, responds to emails, tough material.
I have this professor on zoom this year and he's my favorite by far. He cares and makes sure you understand the information. He really cares about everyone and that's shown by how he talks and teaches. Go to class since some assignments are solely on zooms. He even stopped class one day to talk about how he writes his 5's.
He thoroughly goes over notes and makes sure that no one is behind. I would 100% take his class again if I have a chance.
Professor Hamelman is probably the best teacher I have ever had for math. He is very down to Earth and teaches you the materials in ways that are understandable. He has very simple and clear expectations and is willing to work with you. He cares more about you as a person rather than just someone he needs to lecture. 10/10 Professor.
Online class, attendance isn't technically mandatory but there are sometimes group assignments that must be completed in class and he might not warn you ahead of time. If you miss the class you get a zero for that assignment. Great teacher and genuinely cares about his students, he really wants to help you understand the material. Super sweet.
His passion for math really shows which makes him a fantastic teacher. Ask questions and participate, do the worksheets, and really try to understand the concepts and you will be golden for the tests. He doesn't try to trick you. Caring and will help you if you reach out. Fast at responding to emails. Take him!
His first semester teaching in person since the pandemic - he was good online for 200 but 201 was a nightmare. SO much homework on MML which is awful. Worksheets don't prepare you for tests. He only gave a study guide after finding out the test average was in the 60s. NOT NEARLY ENOUGH TIME ON TESTS!! Tests are 85% of your grade which is insane!!
BEST CALC 2 PROF. Calc2 is extremely difficult, but he made it easy to understand. Provides practice problems for exams, which are very similar/harder than the actual exam. 3 exams (20%), 1 final, lots of easy homework, and participation worksheets. All I did was completely the worksheets, made formula sheets, and maybe watch extra vids for exams.
It has been my absolute pleasure having Prof Hamelman for calc 2. This is a hard class, but he is more than willing to work with his students. He offers three days out of the school week for office hours, and he wants his students to succeed. The MLM HW is absolutely a reasonable amount, and he responds to emails super fast. I HIGHLY recommend him!
When the average exam grade is a D, there is obviously something lacking with the professor and not the students. Hamelman is a tough grader and claims to give out partial credit but that wasn't the case. The homework is tedious and sucks but doable. Exams plus final are 85% of your grade... yikes! Final barely resembled previous tests. Good luck
Mr. Hamelman is awesome! I usually don't like math, but the way he teaches makes math easy to understand. Don't be afraid to ask him for extra help or to re-explain something.
Calc 2 is by nature difficult. Just bc he's a 5 doesn't mean you will be handed an A. Write diligent notes & do the wksts on Canvas. Series and sequences can be demoralizing but you got it. His passion for math is VERY apparent. C2 is foundational for STEM so REALLY learn it. He gives you everything you need to do well. 3 tests all sem no quizzes
One of the best Math teachers I've ever had, explains things super well and welcomes questions. I'm taking calc 3 right now and I wish he could be my professor. Posts lots of practice worksheets w/ answers (not for a grade). The only thing I wish was different is that he had a couple of quizzes so that the class was a little less test reliant.
Joe Hamelman is an all around good professor. Explains things clearly and concisely, taking the time to break content down as needed and help students. Tests, quizzes, study guides, everything has typos so tread carefully. Homework heavy with quizzes every week. Don't get behind and attend tutoring, and you'll do perfect in his class.
Very good professor! You can tell that he seriously cares about his job and about his students. He takes his time explaining difficult topics & even takes time to help during office hours. The class worksheets and homeworks effectively prepare you for tests and quizzes. Overall, I enjoyed having him & I wish he was teaching my next math class :(
He is very passionate about what he teaches, and it reflects on how he answers questions and makes sure that you understand the materials for each quiz.
Professor Hamelman shows a strong understanding of math in general and it is clear he wants to see his students succeed. Textbook is not required and neither is the workbook because he has online PDF's. While he doesn't take attendance every class you do get credit at the end of the semester for showing up. Would take again.
I personally loved him! He was caring deep down and wanted me to do my best. I thought he was funny as well. He teaches everything on the tests so pay attention and you will do great! Ask questions as well.
Professor Hamelman is the best math teacher I've ever had. There is a quiz once a week but the homework and weekly objectives prepare you for those. He gives a ton of partial credit and drops a few assignments. Such an easy math class.
Hamelman is a great passionate professor. His lectures are pretty good, and he encourages his students to participate and ask questions. Unfortunately, the only downside are that his tests are nothing like what he teaches. They are insanely hard, even with the "curve": +5 points based on how your classmates do. Calc 1 is hard with whoever you have.
Doesn't give the best feedback when asking questions but he tries.
Best math instructor I have ever had! Breaks down the material extremely well and goes at the pace of his students. Weekly quizzes, group assignments, and homework that prepare you for exams. He gives lots of partial credit and encourages questions. I am taking him again for calculus because he is the only professor I trust to get me through it.
Amazing professor made calc 2 a breeze. Def take it with him and go to office hours. Do the worksheets bc those are basically test problems. If you put the work in then this class is so easy, but its a LOT of work. Not hard class just the workload is big and don't fall behind. He really cares to make sure you understand what's happening.
Probably the best math professors I've had. He's passionate about his job and it shows. He's patient and nice and wants his students to succeed. Make sure to show up to class, take notes, and ask questions. Calc is a hard class anyways so make sure you understand.
The best math professor I've taken at VCU. Well organized, very passionate, and genuinely wants you to succeed. He explains things thoroughly, and will answer any questions. Definitely take him
Amazing teacher! He does a great job at explaining things and is very clear about upcoming assignments and expectations.
Prof Hamelman, is incredible at teaching math. He takes the time to explain every question you have in depth on the board and makes sure you understand. He also gives partial credit where it's due. The homework twice a week is annoying but it shouldn't take more than 30mins to an hour and it helps on quizzes.
Kind guy, makes sure everyone understands before moving on and is always open to questions. Weekly quizzes, weekly Knewton Alta assignments (only take about 30min-1hr), 3 tests, 1 final. Gives partial credit and is a light grader.
Professor Hamelman is passionate and dedicated. Weekly quizzes and assignments prepare you well for exams. No textbook required - he provides helpful online materials. Using unstuck study and study sessions made this class manageable. Would take again.
Best prof for calc. He's so nice and will help you so much. The class is hard, but use office hours and SI for help and you'll be fine. 80% of the grade is tests, so study at least 12-15hrs for each test so you don't get screwed. He's the best!!! So helpful. The homework is really annoying (like you spend hours on 10 problems)
One of the best profs I've had for math. I found the class to be pretty difficult but he made sure we had a clear understanding of the topics and explained things really well. Its very test heavy. Just make sure to go to class everyday so you don't miss the notes! Very passionate and really wants you to succeed you just have to put in the work.
if you show up everyday and pay attention should you pass easily really enjoyed his class it was very easy and i normally suck at math
He is nice, class is straightforward. However I wished he had more office hours. They were usually only an hour in the mornings. I didn't think they were very accessible times. I think I would have scored better if there were more times.
I usually suck at math, but Hamelman was very kind and respectful and made sure everyone understood the material. There are three tests (besides the final), with your lowest test grade being replaced by your final grade (if it was higher) and you're two lowest quizzes are dropped. Great Guy!
Professor Hamelman isn't a bad professor very lenient grader and understanding but he is disorganized and lack communication when it comes to mistakes on test materials. Professor Hamelman likes to lecture unrelated topics before test and quizzes causing confusion when taking the quizzes and test. 2-3 homework per week and 1 quiz every week.
