fair, intense lectures, easy to talk to, knows the subject
cares about the student
If you do the reading you will do ok, he gives lots of ways to improve your grade, cares about the students
sTUDY THE TEXT, TAKE GOOD NOTES IN CLASS, DO THE MAPS AND IT IS AN EASY B
pay attention in class and you'll be ok
This is a great class. You must keep up with the reading or you're not going to understand what is said.
I have had trouble at first reading and writing at this level. But, Prof. Hodgson has helped me prepare for the assignments. I'm doing better than I thought i was.
Readings are interesting but there is much to do. He's good at letting students get better grades by revising a paper or handing comments on the readings. I've learned alot.
Very easy class if you do the readings. He provides study guides for every chapter and gives review classes before tests. Even the research paper is returned for revision so students can get a better grade.
I've had him for 2 classes and I feel his interest asnd knowledge make this a fun class. There is lots of reading but it all hangs together. I'd highly recommend this prof.
Lots of reading but not in a textbook. He goes over material from the books that will be used in essays or tests so it's not so bad.
Do the reading, listen and take notes and be prepared. He starts out tough but I just got a take home exam. He finds more ways for students to be good at something. I thought I was failing but I have a chance to get a B. But you better like to read because he requires you read lots, know what is assigned and you'll do ok
This was one of the most fun classes I've ever had. I was amazed at how much this professor knew. He used music and powerpoint to make the text more understandable
I never had thought of the relationship between religion and our society. This guy gave lectures that helped me.
very intense, i love the class, he gives many ways to get a good grade, easy to talk to,
a great class with visual aids, music , film and pics, i wish all my classes were this fun
This guys knows his stuff. At the start of the semester I thought his class would be REALLY hard but I finished with a high A. Go to every class, take good notes and you will do well on the test(you'll get the essay Questions the class before the test). I recommend you read the textbook but you'll be ok if you miss a few readings.
its not fun. he teaches, and does a good job. its just that theres so much information that it does get confusing. he gives you lots of chances to get good grades i like him and the class just wish it werent for three hours with only a ten minute break.
He is simply awesome! Great teacher. Full of knowledge, I stayed after class just to listen to him! He's the best!
He gets going so fast that i had trouble keeping up with the notes, he uses some pics and movies and songs, some i found interesting, i didn't have trouble with the grade, i found the class easy
I never likled history but this class madfe me realize how much of my life relates to stuff in our history. Great class
This class is the hardest class ive takin yet and im a chemistry major. his method of teaching is so unorthedox. jumps around from topic to topic and hard to follow. i dont understand how hes a professor. basically read the three texted books and try to teach yourself. goodluck with this guy.
guy is good, clearly explains topics, gives a chance to do well on something, very easy to talk with, i recommend him
he is gr8 2 work with, the tests are easy if you do the reading, maybe he knows too much about this topic, i'll take him again
i like this guy but i get confused, it's not like high school, he's big into ideas and why americans act as we do, but he tries to help us,
i like his tests, we get the multiple choice to take home, i get confused but i seem to do ok so far, i'll take him again, very easy to talk to
I've had 3 classes with him. He's very concerned with students doing well. He's easy to talk with. His tests are fair and easy if you've done the reading. I wish I could take more classes from him.
i hoped college would be like this, he's knowledgable, passionate and interesting, i'm doing ok so far but you must do his assignments or you're dead, don't be afraid to talk to him, he'll be willing to help,
I thought being given the test ahead of time would make this class easy so i messed up the first test. Do the assignments, go to class and you'll get a good grade. LKectures are ok because he doesn't talk in a monotone. i'd recommend this guy to friends.
I thought this was a class in theology. But, it's about the ways religion and America impact each other. I loved this class because i could express my feelings without being put down.
I've never been entertained in class and yet learned so much. This professor is the best I've had so far
I never knew anyone could know so much and it was fun
Overall a very good professor. He clearly knows a lot about what he is teaching. Sometimes he can get a little confusing, but his lectures are still very interesting. If you follow his format for the papers and ask for help if you need it, you will do well. Of the three summer courses I took this summer, his class was far and above the best.
I'd dropped this class without his encouragement and help. i earned an A and I feel that I can now do college work. He's the best
I liked the way he uses film. I took the class during the intersession and i was surprised how much i could learn in 2 weeks. He's entertaining and will make you think.
If you read the books and listen to the lectures this is an easy class, the m/c tests are take home and directly from the text, he's a good lecturer and uses film in class, i liked the class
great professor, talks alot but its helpful, knows EVERYTHING, take home tests and 1000word essays, piece of cake, got an A & plan on taken him for my next three history classes, he truly is a great teacher. if you read what your suppose to you will be fine! recommend him highly to everyone
i'm finishing a Master's degree and this is the most comprehensive history class i've ever had. I learned alot.
I didn't know much about US history other than what I learned in HS. He makes the class easy to understand and his tests make you think. I'll take him again
This is one of the most fun classes I've taken. He's interested in the students, he's interested in history and uses intense lecture and film to help us understand what we read about. One of the best.
This guy is obe of the best.
A great teacher! He knows what hes teaching and very passionate about History. I would take this class again!
I took Hodge for History One and it was easy. As long as you know how to write then you'll be fine. He gives all his tests out a week ahead of time and encourges you to meet up in groups and discuss it. Pay attention and try to take notes from his lectures, they are the hardests questions on the exam
I like his style of presenting history. he uses film and lecture. he gives take home multiple choice tests. He spends time to answer my questions. I liked him
One of the best teachers at Bucks. His tests are hard, but they are take-home and open book. Even though traditional book studying isn't really necessary, I've learned more in his classes than I have in any other. He knows everything about the subjects he teaches and is very helpful. He doesn't take any BS though, don't talk or text in his classes.
A man of knowledge. best teacher at BCCC. If you really wanna learn something new and improve yourself take his history courses. very organized, very helpful, clear. He is not just teaching history but also teaching a life skills in classroom. I wish all the professors were like him. He knows what he is talking about.
Honestly, I took this guy because of the reviews here. NOT TRUE. He was a miserable old man. Not very clear of what he wanted in our daily essays, and graded low even if you gave him what you thought he wanted. Seemed unwilling to help and unwilling to negotiate mistakes. I would suggest a different professor.
He is a good and fair teacher. Though he is tough and demands students to do all the assigments that he assigns. But, he is willing to help. This is an easy class for students who are willing to do all the assignments, read the books and take good notes in class. His class is fun and he is the best history teacher at Bucks County Community College.
His class was easy. The essay assignments were only one page long each. He helped me with my essays. The tests were easy too. He gave us take home tests and we could do them in a group. My group had fun to do the tests. Overall he is a good teacher.
Professor Hodgson is awesome! He told us on the first day of class that if we handed our papers in early, he would make suggestions and hand them back so we could make changes.Tests are take home and we were also encouraged to work in groups before handing them in.Easy A if you do the work!
great teacher!!!!if you want to learn history he is the person who can teach it really well!!!
Professor Hodgson is amazing. He really does want his students to pass & if you do the work, you will get an A. The tests are easy since you get to go over them in a group. i hated history but love this class. highly suggest taking him! i know i will if i need to take any other history classes
Easy grade if you turn in all his work, though it is a lot of reading. His lectures are a bit jumpy and very hard to take notes but at least you can take his tests in groups. He does get into his subject but sometimes tends to talk much about unrelated materials
he is a great and fair teacher. the best thing about this classes is that he lets us take home tests and lets us write any interesting journals we like to write. he may be tough but he is very helpful and i passed his class. history is an interesting class and i passed it with ease.
I took Dr. Hodge in Spring 2013. He was a decent professor, seems to want his students to succeed. Lectures can get boring. There is a lot of writing in this class, minimum of 15/30 journals. If you like history, he is definitely very passionate about it, and knows what he's talking about. His views are middle of the road so to speak.
Do not listen tof these comments! He was horrible and you do not know what he wants for his papers.
Awesome
Do the assignmnts and this is an easy +-A
Your told upfront you miss three classes and you failed the entire class. As part of the curriculum you must write 12 journals before the end of the semester. All tests are take home and then you get a chance to work with other students in the class to review your answers. Easy going and very knowledgeable. Love the movies in class.
Do the writing, preparer for take home tests and you'll get a good grade
Awful teacher. impossible to take notes and talks about random things often. Isn't clear about what to write about in journals.
I love his use of documentaries and movies to give me a visual background. This guy really knows his stuff.
Terrible teacher, his essas will always have something wrong with them no matter how hard you follow the syllabus. He can not stay on track 10/10 the most useless man I've ever met
An easy A just go to every class and keep up with the short essays. You need a total of 12 essays with 30 chances so it's not hard. Exams are take-home and answers can be found word-for-word or with a little thinking straight from the textbook. Be prepared to not actually get to talk about history in the lecture, just rants about his many opinions.
Great professor! You need to complete 12 essays, he takes your best 12- if you get a low grade on an essay, he gives you a chance to get a better grade. After 12, he adds 1 pt to your final grade for each essay of a score of C or better. Tests are long, but take-home, he curves the test grade if you write page numbers down. He wants you to succeed.
He doesn't give constructive criticism. His comments on papers are mean and doesn't help you try to improve. His instructions aren't straightforward and gets mad if you aren't doing something correctly even if you ask for help. If you aren't good at history and writing essays, don't take this class.
The essays get tough, good guy and pretty interesting to listen to. A sort of monotone voice so that makes it harder to learn.
Good teacher. Very smart. Don't piss him off.
The lectures are on topi9cs not in the text. The secondary articles we read are easy to understand and short. I liked most of what I read. Take ho0me tests take the fear out of this class. Take notes, follow directions on essay writing and work in a group on the tests and you'll get an A.
this is what i expected in college
Tests are take home and the day the test is due, you can get into groups and discuss and get answers off people. You have to have 6 essays turned in by the end of the semester, and there's 2 or 3 every week but every one is optional. Takes a bit to good grades on the essays, but eventually you get used to it. Lectures the entire period, he's easy.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! He will drop your grade a whole letter if you miss even a single class period. He gives absolutely no feedback on ANY of the 17 papers you HAVE to write during the semester. He does not let you leave the classroom or he drops you a letter grade, even for a necessary MEDICAL reason. You will not learn anything from him.
This class is by far the easiest one to fall asleep in. Hodgson doesn't do anything but ramble off random facts about history throughout the class. He assigns so many essays yet barely tells you how to do them. The only good thing about his class is that all the tests are take-home tests.
After having Prof. Hodgson for 2 semesters in a row, he's honestly one of my favorite teachers. The first semester he did come off as a bit mean, but overtime you get to know him and he becomes a lot nicer and really cares about his students. He knows what he's talking about and the tests are take home. I wish I could have him again! Ty Hodgson!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! You will know more about his personal life then you will about the actual history he will supposedly teach. You will not be allowed to use the bathroom or leave during class for an emergency or else he will mark you absent and bring your grade down a whole letter. I cannot tell you how many times he will say he is not racist
WARNING! He gets off topic so easy and will go on about useless facts of history that are not relevant in this class at all. There will be days where you will try not to pass out from boredom of his lectures. There have been times where he spent classes talking about his ex wife and his past jobs in coaching soccer, fishing and selling basketballs.
Throughout school going back to first grade out of all the teachers I have had he has to be the worst one that I have ever had. He gets off topic so easily, he will openly point the mistakes that you make to the entire class without even considering how you will feel. We knew more about his own life then the actual history that he "teaches".
There are essays due almost every week that are a massive % of your grade. He rambles constantly and plays videos that have nothing to due with what we are learning that day. Im sure he is actually a nice guy but just sucks as a professor!
Constantly goes on and on about things that have nothing to do with the course, rambles on about his personal life and politics during valuable lecture time, lazily relies on showing videos to the class, gives tests that have nothing to do with the notes youve written down, and hes entirely too smug and full of himself. Hes also terribly boring
Loved the take home tests. Only one text. Liked use of major films. I took him 10 years ago and he inspired a less than average student. I'm a teacher now and he helped change my view of myself and the world.
I wish I dropped this class while I had the chance! Professor sits at the front of the room and speaks. He has nothing prepared as far as lecture material, and he assumes that you are not paying attention if you cannot answer his questions. Lectures are all over the place and include personal facts. You must be a strong essay writer to do well.
Articles & films for class are interesting. Keep up with weekly discussion posts, and papers (250 words & 2+ facts required), you should get A or B. Online class not a lot of work if you keep up and you write what Professor requires i.e. 2+ solid facts about what you read/view). Professor provides feedback, is passionate about the material.
He assigns a teacher lecture, chapters in textbook, articles and 1-2 hr movies. Swear he thinks students do nothing outside his class. Very anal. If you do not use a fact he LIKES, he will significantly deduct your grade. All his feedback is confusing and not full sentences. Doesn't respond to messages. Save yourself, take any other course.
By far one of the worst professors I've ever had. His instructions are poorly written and all over the place. I reached out and emailed him asking him for clarification on what is to be expected for our mid term essay...he just flat out never responded. His written lectures are almost incomprehensible; riddled with spelling and grammar errors.
Pls trust the bad reviews. Feedback was poor & sentences had many grammatical errors. ALOT of reading. Assignments not necessarily difficult but if its not exactly what he thinks is correct, he leaves criticism-not constructive. Gives hour long movies on top of extensive lectures & textbook readings. If youre a student w a busy schedule, beware.
