people are quick to make fun of kudrle because of his awkward social habits, his obsessive chalkboard behavior, and his intense need for repetition (clarity). however i wouldn't have taken math 17 with anyone else, he is superb at explaining material, and is the reason i did so well in the class.
Kudrle is the cutest, best teacher ever! He's a great teacher that really knows his stuff and he's extremely well at explaining. I love his sweater.
Joe is the man. He's got a great personality that really adds to the fun of the class. He loves math so much and I think he really enjoys teaching it.
very clear teacher, moves very slow. there's w/ no required hw, review seccsions are helpful. You've probly done harder math in middle school
He loves the Simpsons and has a good sense of humor he can even make 9am fun. His quizzez and tests are fair and he goes over everything at least three times just to make sure everyone gets it. If you are good at math this might i know you but if calc is not your thing than he is the best prof ever
Having not been very good at math in the past and struggling in math 19 i was worried about math 020. joe makes it easy to learn...goes over everything at least twice...tests and quizzes are fairly easy...really helps you understand math...def take him as a professor
Cutest EVER!!!!
Best math teacher i have ever had. I am honestly not so good at math and I got an A in the class just because he made everything so clear.
This guy is just an awesome teacher. His notes are totally clear and he makes sure everyone undertsands the material before the quizes on Friday.
Great professor. He knows his material and can come up with examples that pertain to real life so math doesn't feel so useless to the real world.
a huge nerd with irritating idiosycracies but a good prof. at that. assignments are fair and explaination of material is good.
I love Joe! He's adorable, and is so patient with explaining things. Best math teacher i've ever had. (P.S. he makes his own beer and rides a motorcycle!)
while i find his classes somewhat tedious, his explanations are quite good. i laugh at his humor not because it is funny, but because it is so dumb. he is a nice guy and a good teacher. this class is not challenging for me, but i would think that in a challenging class he would prove to be very helpgul and effective
Great teacher, good attitude eager to help, wants you to succeed, go for help and you shall recieve. Could be considered a tough course if you don't go to class and don't keep up with the material. The fact that students from the other math 19 classes ask me questions reflects on the other teachers I think. Pretty much he's jus awesome
Great teacher. Loves to be in class and has no problem helping you outside of class. There is a quiz once a week which is really helpful because you know what he is looking for. over all he is a good guy and very helpful.
A pretty easy class and a good prof. He covers everything multiple times so even if you miss a class you don't really "miss" anything. Class pacing is very slow. Very accessible at his office hours -- friendly and approachable.
He is GREAT! Really clear and goes at great pace. If you're not a math person, he will help you get though this class. Word of advice, DO THE REVIEW SHEETS! Everything that is on that sheet is going to be on the exam. He takes the same type of problems, but just changes the numbers on it. So if you know that sheet, you have nothing to worry about!!
Awesome professor....class goes slow. likes to help students..met with hime every week to make sure I understood every thing....eager to help...easy to approach..made math easy
Best math class I've ever taken - not to mention the only one I've gotten an A in. It's called Basic Mathematics, and yeah, that's what it is. I nevver liked math and ALWAYS struggled with it before this class. here are 3 reasons alone you should take this class 1)there's NO TEXTBOOK 2)there's no real final 3)quizzes and tests are OPEN NOTEBOOK
One of the best math teachers I have ever had. Very well organized. The class is well paced so that you can grasp some of the more difficult concepts. He is always trying to gauge how the class is doing so he can adjust the pace and material to optimize learning. A little nerdy, but cool at the same time. Has a motorcycle and brews his own beer!
One of the easiest class ive taken. i completely forgot there was a test one day, showed up 1/2 way through and still got an A on the test. Guy is one goofy mofo but it makes the class worth going to.
AMAZINGGGGGGG TEACHER!sooooo helpful, and cares a great deal about his students. kUDRLE is one of the best teachers i have had at UVM and i fully recommend him. hes incredible at teaching math
Joe is amazing. I have never been good at math, but he has truly made it easy, and fun. He is immensely helpful, and really knows his stuff. He is one of the few teachers I've met that obviously loves his job... If you can, take a class with him. He is an awesome teacher and is just an all around good person.
Joe is the man. Not only is his class not boring, but he is a funny guy and makes it easy to learn. He is also very approachable and extremely helpful. I have always sucked at Calc but he's been really helpful and made it easy. Plus he's a funny guy. Highly recommend taking a class with him.
Joe is a nice guy and a wonderful professor. He is very approachable, and makes Statistics interesting. I would recommend taking Statistics with him if you can.
Professor Kudrle is a positive teacher who really likes what he teaches. He is also very helpful if you have a problem.
He is a great teacher, and explains everything in a very clear way. The tests are very fair and based on class work.
Professor Kudrle is a great Professor. I had him for Calculus 19 and 20. He has very clear cut explainations and tests/assignments are pretty fair. I would recommend this Professor. He's really funny and pretty chill. Does help you when you need it.
Before Kudrle, I hated math. After him, I finished the class with an A- and enjoyed doing double derivatives and integration by parts. I love this man. He has a special place in my heart. You will want to wake up at 8 in the morning to hear him talk about Guitar Hero and play the theme song from CSI: Vegas. He's the best.
I think if I took a harder math class with Kudrle I would have appreciated him more, but it was kinda hard to pay attention when he's seriously teaching how to find the mean and median of numbers. Fun to count how many times he st-st-stutters too. Good guy who loves what he teaches.
Wonderful teacher! I enjoyed his class so much! He is thorough and clear for students, and loves what he teaches! Great professor!
Kudrle is the sweetest thing! He always brought us candy or had his wife bake blondies for us whenever we were working hard, and he tells funny stories every class. Plus, his teacher style was incredibly clear and straightforward, and the workload wasn't even very large even though I learned a ton. I never really liked math until he taught it!
Very entertaining teacher who can make a hard subject clearer. His teaching style is very straightforward and his tests are fairly easy. If you study, you're bound to do well.
Fuuny guy- not hot like this site is suggesting, but good teacher. There are some things you should know about Joe: he loves the Simpsons, he owns and loves a poodle, he st st stutters quite a bit and sweats A LOT when he gets into math problems... very helpful and nice, very good a explaining and has people work in groups a lot.
Terrific teacher. Learned more from his math class than all of high school. Liked him so much i signed up for math019 next semester. He is so clear and straight forward!
Awesome Teacher!! I was terrified of Calculus, but Kudrle is clear, fair, and one of the best teachers I have ever had!
LOVED the class, wonderful guy- very down to Earth, caring, compassionate. You really feel like your professor WANTS you to do well, which really can make allll the difference. He's great, really funny, smiles all the time- whats not to love?!?note, take notes, you'll be glad you did.
Great professor - extremely helpful to students. Makes homework 40% of the grade. However, you have a week to complete it and you can visit him with your answers and he will correct them for you, thus ensuring a 100 on the homework. Also a funny guy in that dorky/nerdy kind of way, but he embraces it. One of the most popular math teachers at UVM
He is a great prof. Makes things easy to understand; explains them with words, numbers, and then gives examples for all different types of learners. He really wants everyone to succeed which is good. He's funny too in a dorky boy band way.
Straight up this man knows how to teach and your grade will reflect the effort you put in.
I might be one of the only people to find find him to be a fantastic prof. I find him to be very distracting.
I am telling you right now, this guy knows how to teach. He is a good prof for sure for any math you are taking. He explains things well. He gives homework assignments that you have a week to do and it really helps your grade. He makes practice exams for you and aids you in whatever you need. Put in effort and your grade will be high.
GREAT professor! He was always entertaining and he teaches math VERY well! Everything is clear, the homework is do-able, and the tests are fair! If you put a bit of effort into this class, you will get an A, he is always willing to help! All around, a great professor and person I LOVED his class (I took him for Math 019, 020, and Stat 111)
AMAZING TEACHER. I absolutely despise anything to do with math and this guy is the best teacher I have ever had. I would recommend him over any other teacher. And, his sense of humor is adorable. He gives you such an idiot proof way of learning the subject and his Assignments and Test Reviews are COMPLETELY HELPFUL. Great great class
This guy has a lot of energy for something most people find very boring: calculus. He is always very well prepared for class and explains the concepts clearly. He likes to get the class involved with problems and also makes good use of online homework. One quiz per week on 1-2 sections, which is very helpful when it comes to studying for an exam.
He is one of the best teachers I have ever had!! Kudrle is always available to help his students...I HIGHLY suggest to stop by during his office hours. His tests and grading is very fair. Write down ALL the notes and problems covered in class because you will see them again on the tests.
I hate Math, but if every class were like his I would major in it. He's very energetic, which makes it interesting. His explanations are also very clear, and he always replies to emails. You can also tell he cares about his students.
GREAT TEACHER! Understands his subject and want you to understand it too. His geeky, sometimes awkward, humour is perfect for a math teacher. Only suggestion is if you usually understand math well, don't buy the hard copy of the book as the course compass assignments should be enough along with well-taken notes.
He's a nice guy, and he really cares about his students...there are a lot of homework assignments and a quiz every week which helps your grade a lot..... my problem: if you like word problems, take his class.
Prof Kudrle is far and away one of the best teachers I have had at UVM. He is organized, fair, clear, engaged, and always ready to help explain things more thoroughly. Great sense of humor also. Do the work and you will do well.
Had Kudrle for 19 and 20. Excellent, excellent math professor. His teaching style and lesson plans are as logical and clear-cut as the material he teaches. Quirky/funny. DO THE COURSE COMPASS EVERY SINGLE TIME and you will have nothing to worry about. Use them to study for the quizzes. I F-ing hated math before Kudrle. Now I'm a math minor, no joke
This class was super easy. I'm not very good at math, but it's basically just reading and basic math. He writes very clear notes/examples in class and the assignments and tests are easy. I would definitely recommend him for your CAS math requirement. He's pretty funny too without really trying.
great teacher! he is very good at simplifying the math down so anyone can understand it. He speaks clearly and precisely, he write neatly on the board (semi - uncommon amongst math teachers). overall a great experience!
His stats class is exceptionally easy but I'd rather watch paint dry than listen to him talk.
Excellent professor! Very excited about the subject and tells funny stories to keep class entertaining. He explains things very well. Even tough topics he makes simple to understand. I would highly recommend Kudrle for anone who does not like, or struggles with math, because he makes things easy to understand.
Great professor! Notes are clear and straightforward, although repetitious. Exams are easy if you attend class and take all of the notes and study from the weekly quizzes! Not as funny as claimed to be, and his humor is more nerdy and dorky than anything else. But still a decent class to have at 8AM. Very engaged and easily approachable for help!
I used to like math, but Kudrle has made me loath it. He is the worst teacher I have ever had. He doesn't teach what he puts on online homework and talks down to students in class. The way he teaches and assigns work is SO frustrating and I don't feel like I am learning anything. Avoid this teacher at all costs. Quizzes and test are easy though
he goes through the material in a thorough and repetitious manner making it easy to understand, really easy to get in contact with when I emailed him with a question he would respond within the hour, tests are fair if study old quizzes and the review sheet you'll easily pass. awesome teacher def take him if you can.
Mr. Kudrle is fun and personable. I took Calculus with him over the summer. He made everything understandable and really worked with the students who struggled. The class size was really small and it ran for 2 hours in the morning for a month in the summer. Take class with him! You don't have to teach yourself!
Fanatstic professor! He presents the material in a clear and straightforward method, and it's easy to get into contact with him. Weekly quizzes that recap the previous week's material, and if you go to class the quizzes are easy. Highly reccomend him!
Best math professor you could ask for. Clearly outlines all the major concepts and theories being used. HE is able to explain things in multiple ways if you don't understand it the first time. Very easy-going and really wants you to succeed. Weekly quizzes aren't bad. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Kudrle is an awesome professor. Even if you're not a math person, he's so enthusiastic and interesting that it's not hard to apply yourself. His notes are very well organized and the expectations for the material are 100% clear. Absolutely do take a math course with him.
Special topics course - Mathematics of Finance. He is an expert in the field and built the course to help an actuarial student start preparing for the exam. I was probably the only one sitting for the professional exam and his course gave me a very strong foundation to learn the remaining ~25% of material myself. Highly recommended and very helpful
Explains everything very well and is always willing to explain something again
If you enjoy being lied to frequently, then Kudrle is the right teacher for you!!!
Kudrle is a great professor. He wants you to do well- his notes are organized and clear, and the quizzes aren't hard. The homework is all online but I liked that. And there are only about 2 homework assignments per week. There are many ways to get help if you're struggling as well.
I love this professor! I struggled with math all through high school but Kurdle is a great teacher that thoroughly explains information and he wants his students to do well. The work load isn't heavy, he posts notes, blank tests/quizzes, and has office hours. He'd pretty dope!
Despised calc in high school, Kudrle quickly changed that mindset by making everything as clear as possible. Easy course, easy system.
He is so unhelpful, didn't learn anything. He will fight you for points on EVERY exam.
I took math 21 with prof kudrle and I had to withdraw. His lectures aren't clear and the book is no help. I went to him for help and he wasn't any help.
Kudrle is both the best and worst. I took pre-calc in high school and I basically breezed through this course. There's a lot of group projects and he grades them harshly: they need to be typed perfectly or you get no credit. He doesn't answer questions fully and he's actually the worst.
Joe is a great instructor; he's very clear and goes through a lot of specific examples in class, which are likely to be on the exam. He loves when students ask questions and is available for outside help. He posts all of his notes online. Basically, he makes it easy to do well if you show up and do the work. He's also very goofy which is awesome.
This class is absurdly difficult. Given that it's a 100 level class, I was working on homeworks for hours at a time and Tests for days. He says that the actuarial test it's supposed to replicate only has a 40% pass rate and that's exactly how this class feels. This is one of the hardest math classes I've taken.
Very clear lectures, and at a good pace (sometimes too slow but that doesn't hurt). Very available, and also the homework is helpful and because he allows multiple tries (With examples) it is hard not to get in the 90s on homework. Only warning is to take exams seriously because even one bad one can cost you your grade.
This guy is an awful professor. If you don't develop the correct answer by the end of the question in a quiz or test, it doesn't matter if your method was correct, say goodbye to any sort of credit for the question. I have gotten 25s on quizzes that my friends reviewed and told me their professors would have at least given them an 80. AWFUL.
Kudrle is really clear and nice. He does give partial credit for good work. Homework takes 2-3 hours a week, I have never used the book. The class is pretty average, nothing to love or hate. But he makes difficult concepts clear, and the trys hard to give everyone every chance to get plenty of practice and do well on the tests. I will take his 020.
Kudrle is so nice and he really tries to make sure everyone understands the material. Very open for questions in class as well as at his office hours. He posts all of the class notes on his blackboard site as well as a podcast that walks through the notes. I found the notes and podcasts incredibly useful to study for tests and quizzes. He's great
Took MATH019 online with Joe and it was a piece of cake. All of the assignments were due at 4PM on the last day of finals so I could do them at my leisure. He posts videos of him going over the concepts so you know what you're doing. Easy A since all of the homeworks and tests can be done twice via the online platform.
He's a really nice guy and genuinely cares for his students. His lectures are easy to understand, and he posts the notes along with podcasts online. He also posts quiz and test practice problems on his website that are very similar to the actual exams. Don't bother with a textbook because you only use My Math Lab and your notes. Highly recommended.
Kudrle has great lectures full of information. Gives great review for quizzes and tests. I've never seen someone who is as enthusiastic about Calculus as Joe. Always answers questions in class and wants you to succeed.
Professor Kudrle truly loves math and teaching. He can get excited and go a little fast, but he's very approachable and will slow down if you ask. Tests are fair and cover the concepts, not sneaky algebra/manipulations. Quizzes sometimes tricky. Records lectures and posts notes. Clear lectures, lengthy hw. Can be goofy. Would definitely take again.
I hate calc but I LOVE HIM. Lectures are so so clear, and with him I finally started to understand math. As someone who failed pre calc twice he was a godsend. His grading criteria is crystal clear and the homework is tedious, but online and easy to do well. One of the most flexible professors. I wish all my classes were taught by him
Mr. Kudrle provides lots of extra information online, like podcasts from class and notes. However, if you learn by practice, the homework only occasionally reflects the actual material. He doesn't explain concepts very well, and provides absolutely no help to anyone outside of office hours, except for telling you to see a tutor if you need help.
Math 018 was a breeze, Joe is really nice, and a very good teacher. The only tests were the midterm and final, and those were both open notes. The course has quite a few group projects, but he gives you time in class to pretty much get them all done. Attendance is mandatory, so make sure you make it to class.
Puts a lot of effort into providing students with lots of resources (class notes, podcasts, filled out quizzes, etc). Has a sneaky habit of saying "that's not too bad" every time he completes any math problem ranging from easy to difficult. He's a nice guy overall, but he gets a little frustrated with our questions which he sees as obvious.
Nice guy, just a bit quirky. Strikes me as a genius who can't understand when a student doesn't understand something. I hear he's good for other courses, just STAY AWAY from this one. Assignments and quizzes are FAR more difficult than they need to be to learn the material. 4th week in, tons of sneaky algebra and logarithm equation manipulations.
Great guy - really wants his students to succeed. He posts Khan Academy style videos going over classwork and the quizzes, which are incredibly helpful. Straightforward style of teaching. He doesn't throw any curveballs at you. If you put in the time and effort (like he does the teaching!) you can do well in his class.
Kudrle is very organized and has lots of resources for you to do well. Math 019 is pretty easy, and he gives practice problems before each weekly quiz. His lectures are outlined clearly and he posts all his notes online. As long as you keep up with the homework (which is not a lot) and do well on the quizzes you'll do well on his exams. Easy A.
Joe was the best math teacher I've ever had. Great lectures and amazing videos for the pre-quiz practice problems. If you do all the work and use the pre-quiz practice and old quizzes, tests will be fine. He did have one "curveball" question per exam and the final was very hard. Finally understood calculus with him and enjoyed his class.
Kudrle cares so much about teaching, it's amazing. Math019 has around 125 kids in it, but he posts the notes from the lectures every day and begins almost every class with a brief picture of his dogs. His main priority is that we understand the material and that we have the tools we need to succeed, which he makes that abundantly clear.
Kudrle is the best professor I have had. He puts so much time and effort into the material he is teaching and the resources available . The exams are very fair. As long as you show up to class and do the homework you should be fine. He is a really funny person too and the pictures of his dogs always brightened my day. Would definitely take again.
Honestly didn't enjoy this guy. He is very odd, and it really isn't that funny. Some people will say he is easy, but his lectures are insanely fast and if you have no prior knowledge of calculus you will be left to your own devices. His office hours are always filled with students and I actually had to wait an hour to meet with him.
Nice guy! Classes + online posted notes amd practice problems make it easy to be well prepared for exams!
Here's the thing: Kudrle teaches math concepts, and expects you to understand how to use it to solve problems instead of just teaching you how to solve a problem directly, making it really difficult to do well on them exams, as you may have never seen a question remotely similar on the homework. However, he cares about his students & wants to help
I had to take this class because its required for my major, even though I've always been SO bad at math. Mr. Kudrle is a funny guy, and posts all his lectures with notes online(even with a podcast!) which made it a lot easier for me to stay up to date with his lectures. Lots of homework. He is very good at explaining. I ended up with a C.
Kudrle is pretty quirky and weird but he gives good notes. His lectures are fast, but he gives you so many resources (pdf of notes, podcast, extra practice problems) that it makes up for it. He gives you chances to do well on the online homework and quizzes, and practice problems for the tests. Weird dude, but good class.
Great guy. Makes learning really easy. Gives you plenty of resources. You can really feel he wants you to succeed. He also likes to show pictures of his dogs which has been one of the only things to get me through the semester. 10/10
Joe Kudrle is smart, kind, funny, and fair. He grades generously and cares more about how you're doing and how much you understand than whether you made a small mistake. Get ready for lots of pictures of his poodles, some super nerdy analogies, and plenty of opportunities to succeed. Overall, A+ guy.
Total nerd and loves his poodles. A solid teacher though and a really nice guy.
He is a funny guy who somehow makes calculus a little more bearable. He makes it easy to do well in his class with the podcasts of lectures and notes all posted on his blackboard, also with homework grades every week that are easy 100s. Overall great guy and professor!
Kudrle is hilarious and you will get photos of his poodles daily. Class isn't hard if you go or at least look at the notes which he posts after every class. There are 3 tests and he drops the lowest grade. Homework is assigned for every lesson but you should have no problems getting a 100% on all of them which will boost your grade.
Calc can be tough but Joseph makes it much more tolerable. He genuinely wants to see every student to do well and offers so many study resources on blackboard and for his office hours.
Kudrle was a solid Calc III professor; the concepts of polar and parameterization - very confusing in Calc II - became clear in this class, and new material (while very similar to Calc I) was explained in an a manner such that it seemed intuitive. The daily dog pictures are a bit corny, but I believe it adds some charm.
Great professor. Always posts every material via BB and his notes are very well organized.
Kudrle is an awesome professor! His classes were right to the point and the homework is very manageable. Get ready for weekly updates on his poodles, they were by far the best part of this class! Overall great guy and cares so much about his students doing well.
Joe is a lighthearted and funny guy. It was a pleasure to be in his class. He provides a ton of electronic notes (written with a stylus on a touch screen device). His handwriting was a bit difficult to read sometimes, but I can't complain too much. The course was mostly review for me, but I feel that I would have succeeded even if it hadn't been.
Great prof. Clear, organized lectures, very easy homework every night, even drops your worst test grade, and all around just a really friendly and approachable guy, hard not to like. Class far less painful than it could be with Kudrle. Love the dog photos too.
Joe is really nice and his asynchronous classes are very easy
really nice, but sends so many emails. I took math 120 and it was one credit and got 3 emails a week
joe is my favorite teacher ever. he is so good that he is still my favorite teacher even though he is gay. and i hate gays
I love prof Kudrle! his lectures were very clear and he would include suggested problems with each section. you get unlimited attempts on the webassign assignments and 2 attempts on exams. I learned a ton in this class and the flexibility really helped with that. would definitely recommend taking calc 3 with him
Joe's online classes are great if u like that sort of thing. 2-3 lecture vids a week 20-60min. Topics can be tough but he explains them pretty well & is v accessible to meet online or in person. Each vid has a WebAssign w/ it 5-10 problems, unlimited attempts. 2 major tests open note, lots of time, 2 attempts ea. Class is designed for u to succeed!
Great class to take especially when sitting through math lessons are extremely boring. The homework is easy and everything is open note. BUT the two tests he gives you, he gives problems that no notes, practice problem or homework makes you learn so you're stuck trying to learn it during the timed test which tanks your grade cuz each test is 30%.
MATH 121 online was pretty straightforward and low stress, there are a bunch of recorded lectures to watch but Prof Kudrle does a good job explaining and does his best to make himself as available as possible to help students with anything they need. I didn't interact with him much but he seems great, and sends lots of poodle pictures which is fun.
Joe's online classes are a great option if you can stay on top of the work. His video lectures are great and the homework is usually pretty straight forward. He is so accessible and happy to help with any questions or confusion on homework. Tests can be challenging, but they are open note and you have plenty of time to do it.
Prof. Kudrle was an amazing professor to take Calc III with! He was always very accessible and willing to help, and he loves his poodles very much! He used very good examples during lectures and the online tests were open note/open resource.
best prof for linear algebra!!!!! he posts poodle pictures daily, is super available to answer questions and chat on teams, and the course is a super easy workload compared to other online courses i've taken. cannot recommend him enough
He is an amazing math teacher! He explains concepts clearly and makes challenging topics feel manageable. His lectures are well-organized, and he is always willing to answer questions or provide extra help if needed. He genuinely cares about his student's success.
He was so easy to get in touch with and set up weekly plans for his online class. He was great! Class was easy and fun to learn! excited to have him again
Professor Kudrle's MATH121 class is a great option, whether online or in-person. The lectures are clear, and he provides plenty of support to help you succeed. I found Unstuck AI super helpful alongside the course materials. Overall, it's a well-designed class that makes learning calc fun!
Joe is a fantastic professor to take online classes. His lectures are pretty straightforward, they may be a little fast paced but since it is online they can be paused. I have taken him several times for online classes and it is always the same, webassign problems and timed online exams with open notes. Easy A if you actually do the work.
