he invites questions, but then he will cross examine everything you say. but he is a great teacher.

I think he likes to show off his talenting in debating a little too much. Maybe he regrets leaving law. And as for hot??? Ummmm, I guess if you like preppy law grads....
I think he's great, he's so approachable and friendly, at the same time, he's challenging - he may not be the easiest, but you'll thank him later. And ya, he's totally hot.
Really cool teacher! Explains material well and in an interesting way. Can be challenging at times. Always looked forward to class. Thru various class exercises, demonstrates class material in an interesting, clever and non-boring way.
Limer is awesome. He looks like a student. He cares so much about what he teaches. His tests are fair and he helps you prepare for them. Great guy to talk to during and after class
Not only is his calss interesting and enjoyable, but he is totally HOT! You won't regret taking his class =).
hard to understand
A great professor if you can get used to him and understnad his style. Be careful to double-check requirements and dates -- he can be very unclear. But he is surprisingly helpful and sympathetic if you just ask. Sit in the front of the room; he mumbles!
This is by far the best professor I've ever had in my life! He brings a lot of life into the subject and for those that didn't like political science or had no interest in it before, will suddenly be captivated by his class. He is awesome! HIGHLYRECOMMEND
Excellent Professor. Extremely nice, helpful, and very smart. Makes class fun. I just wish he taught more classes.
He is great. If you need poli sci take this class. He makes class interesting and fun. He really cares about his students and takes the extra time to help you if you need it. I wish he taught more classes.
Great Professor, quite brilliant in fact, And talk about hot, Those sweater vests are to die for!
If you're conservative (like most of North County) and want to be comforted with a right wing agenda, then, sure you will miss Newbrough. But if you want truth and objectivity and a prof. who mixes it up with lecture, discussion and debates you will love Prof. Limer. A great professor!
Inexperienced, thus leading to his occasional incompetence. Motivation for teaching does not correlate with quality and capability.
don't take this class
I think he wanted to be a lwayer and settled for teaching. He really isnt that hard though. Just make sure you pay attention to the lecture
Great teacher, hard take-home test.
Find a different teacher!! this one sucks. i was looking forward to this class, and he was a horrible teacher. he tries so hard to make the class challenging, but does offer a lot of easy extra credit, by far not an easy A, or B for that matter
Awesome teacher! Likes to teach and knows what he's talking about. Doesn't grade on attendance, but you can't afford to miss lectures. VERY hard take home test, but if you go to class, he will help you with it. Gives lots of extra credit but you are only eligible for it if you don't miss class.
Very smart guy who actually makes you think. Great grading system based off of what you learned and not what you memorize. I went into his class undecided and left a political science major
Good teacher - tries to help students undertsand topics better.
Matter of preference. Do not go for him if you like organized, knowledgeable, & focused professors. If you like friendly professors who talk a lot, he's your's! Ask him questions, he'll tell you to research it and give him the answers. Students shouldn't have to do the work he's being paid to do!!!
Best teacher I've had. Long take home test, but it's easy. Very good lectures. I actually enjoyed attending his class.
very good teacher. for most who want a political science degree, he is the type of professors you will have. Debates are awesome, and the take home tests stimulate thought. Excellent professor
His class was by far the hardest class I've taken, but I really enjoyed it. He grades pretty tough on essays and the take home test is hard, but his grading is fair. His lectures are interesting and he's always willing to help students.
easy as heck, boring as heck. Don't show up to lecture as he regurgitates what's in the reading. Just get the book and you're fine. The take home final was a bit time consuming, but if you manage to write his opinions, you're good to go!
I really liked this teacher, I thought he really new his stuff. The take home test is really hard, and he isn't very clear about it, just be sure to do lots of research!! He gives a very good review before test, and is pretty good about getting back to you if you email him. If you are looking for an easy class, don't take him.
This diminutive condescending "professor" is really a shameless bitter wannabe attorney. Because he couldn't accomplish his own dreams, he decides to discourage students. A boring guy that has favorites in the class, consistently trashed students he didn't like either for their opinions or other reasons.
Awesome professor. Have been to universities and Community college, by far the best poli sci teacher so far. Demands alot from students but provides more than enough tools for the challenge. Learn more in his classes than any other class. Was a practicing lawyer in virginia, doesnt want to be one in Cali, so he knows his stuff. TOUGH BUT GREAT!
Love him! Not only is he fairly entertaining for a teacher, he knows his stuff *and* he's hot! Recommended! He basically tells you everything that will be on the test so studying is super-easy. He tries to make the material interesting, and he is truly ded

I love this class. He makes the information interesting and was very entertaining as well. Extremely helpful in preparation for tests. Show up for lecture and pay attention and it should be a fairly easy class. I just took the class to kill time and i ended up loving it and am taking another class from him next semester cuz he was so great.
Great Professor, fun, funny and smart.
knows his stuff! very fair, very helpful, and willing to talk after class. i would recomend him to anyone. BUT HE IS HARD!
He's a good teacher. He is willing to help you and make sure you understand everything.
Super relaxed professor. Easy to listen to, and mostly to the point. If you show up you will get at least a B. He also offers alot of in class extra credit.
WOW! This dude will literally destroy your beliefs you hold, show you everything, and you rebuild from there. I left that class with a deeper faith in my beliefs than when i came in! The class starts slow, but gets good when you reach Marxism. Little homework, mostly reading a book. Grade is tests and one 5 minute presentation. RECOMMENDED!
Awesome guy. He is so clear in his lectures, and even gives a review of every question that will be on the test before you take it. If you pay attention to the lectures, and read the book, you are good to go. He is an awesome guy, very neutral and will teach you to think for yourself and to really ask questions. Good guy, good class...take him
It is cool that he gives you all the questions to the test but on the essays he is a tough grader. He tends to make people feel stupid when they ask questions...I never asked a question out loud b/c of the way he would talk to people. One on one he is a nice guy, just very sarcastic.
he's intelligent and respectful. He's a really cool guy that only gives you info if it is important. He won't give busy work nor will he waste your time. Test questions are given to you days prior to the test date and his papers are reasonable. Just make sure you're willing to participate in discussions because it makes the class easier
I've made sure to have him for 100,101,102.May not have had best grades on tests but always came out w/ a B.Try not to miss class, you'll get extra credit opps & extra help.Very interesting lectures.Funny guy.Have to do debates but he grades VERY easy.As long as you come to class, take notes and try on the tests you'll do fine. Will help when asked
He's awesome, for some reason class is always short, but you never leave confused. Test aren't too bad, He give you the questions a few days before, and as long as you take notes you'll do fine. While he gives you the test questions, you can ask questions too. The hardest thing is the take home test, make sure you go to all classes before that test
DUDE!!! This teacher is classic!! You will leave knowing something about politics. He has no attendance policy but knocks you for extra credit after missing 4 classes. He gives all the questions for the test on review day. There is a debate in the class but no stress cuz he understands pressure. Sit in the front row cuz' this guy is hilarious
If you like Law and lots of work, take his class, but if not ,Don't he sucks
Honestly no B.S. this teacher Rocks!!! He is really smart (law degree) why he's teaching I don't know, but were lucky to have him. He defenitly makes it worth coming to class. He is a hardass but he will teach you something! Be careful what you say he is very argumentative after all he is a lawyer!! have fun & study
I went to class the first day, and the first day ONLY!!!! I couldn't wait to leave. So the next day I transferred out. The first day he was already argumental you can tell he lives in his on little political science world!!!
Has a tendency to mumble to himself in class out of nowhere. Pretty arrogant, condescending, and acts like he knows it all. His lectures are sleep inducing as the textbook has more life. My HS government class was more informative & interesting. Garbage!
This teacher is great! You will do well on his tests if you can explain yourself and your thoughts. He makes this class very interesting with law-related jokes and stories. He wants you to understand how our system works and will help you to do so.
Took this class in spring and it wasn't too hard. He was funny and made the class go by pretty fast. Does assign a debate and a research paper. Research paper wasn't too bad but I would say the debate was the hardest for me to do. Gives the questions for the test the class before so show up. Got an A in the class and he does give extra credit!
THIS PROFESOR IS INFATUATED WITH HIMSELF. I TOOK THE CLASS AND WENT EVERY DAY. WE HAD ONE LONG PAPER TO DO, MINE WAS 10 PAGES AND I WORKED HARD. HE GAVE ME AN F ON THE PAPER AND TOLD ME IF I WANT TO KNOW WHY HE WOULD HAVE THE T.A. EXPLAIN IT TO ME. MADE ME FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE AND BELITTLED ABOUT MY OPINION.
very good teacher, made class alot of fun. He is hard though, his lectures are really hard to follow but he really makes you think. If you just want credit don't take him, he is for someone who really likes political science.
sucks big time, arrogant and uninformed.
he is awesome teacher!! he knows what he is talking about and he truly cares about the subject. he is a hard teacher and you have to EARN your A which makes it even more worthwhile. i learned a lot from him class and i would definitely take him again!
Overall this teacher was alrite. He did seem to make some people feel stupid. His tests are pretty easy, but the last one is REALLY hard. the essays were somewhat hard. So if you have no interest in POSC , i suggest you take another class. I put in alot of effort into the debate, and the tests, and i still got a damn C! I suggest kissing butt to him
This teacher is a bit arrogant, and will make you feel like crap if you don't know everything he thinks you should. Tests are pretty difficult, but take good notes and you'll be fine. You will learn a lot and it will be worth it.
I LOVE MR. Limer! he is honestly the best teacher I have taken since Ive been in college, and i take classes at miracosta too. I love political science now. He is not hard at all. As long as you try he will do his best to get you a decent grade. He is really clear, very smart and funny! hes really cute too! I definately recommend this teacher.
Prof Limer is an awesome guy. He makes class extremely fun and entertaining. Although his class is pretty hard, you can get the grade you want by working for it. Give him a try, he'll teach you something new.
I took this class during the summer and it was really hard. I did the best I could, but I could tell Professor Limer disagreed. I felt he graded me based on what he thought I should be doing. I thought he was frustrating though really interesting.
he's super passionate about the subject which is always nice because hes always really interested to help out. i dont really recommend asking a question because he does have a tendency to be really condescending, other than that just pay attention and this class is easy and really interesting. its not hard at all, book is only used in beginning 4wk
the class is a little hard, but if your willing to listen its actually pretty interesting. plus hes HOT, i would for suuure take another course with him.
This is hard, But enjoyable class. He expects the very best from his students, but the hard work is worth it. He is very interesting and know alot about the law. If your willing to work hard and are passionate about the subject take this class
Look, this class is very easy if you read your chapters prior to class. Tests are only difficult if you don't come to class. If you act like you are still in highschool, he has a major problem with that. This is college people. Don't use your phone during class. If you actively participate, and pay attention, you will get an A. It's not difficult.
OK SO APPARENTLY THIS GUY WAS "WAY COOL" LAST SEMESTER AND THIS SEMESTER HE IS SO NOT! HE IS CONDESCENDING, ARROGANT, LOVES TO ARGUE AND PUT YOU ON THE SPOT, HARDEST "POLICY ANALYSIS" ASSIGNMENT EVER!!! SAVE YOURSELF! I THINK HE IS BIPOLAR - HE KICKS PEOPLE OUT OF CLASS ALL THE TIME (EVERYONE) SERIOUSLY! HE IS WAAAY TO STRICT ON GRADING! HES A LAWY
I thought Limer was great. He is very full of himself and maybe not the coolest dude, but I thought he was an excellent teacher. Really turned me onto Poli Sci. I liked how he over-analized every case from every angle. Definitely recommend him. Hot girls in this class too.
The people who are posting here with low ratings are obviously still in high school mind frame. Can we say, "I'm not yet ready for college." This is really an easy class, and he will help those who help themselves first. If you act like a child, expect to be treated as such. Don't cry cause you got a bad grade. Grow up and read the REQUIRED reading
Limer is a good Professor. I really hated politics when I started his class and about 1/2 way through I realized it was my own ignorance as to why I was so turned off. I learned alot from this course and in reality I should have taken an interest in "my government" a long time ago. Kudo's to Limer
Great teacher. The class is quite difficult, but it's worth it because you leave the class with a deeper appreciation and understanding of the subject.
Awesome professor, makes you think, appreciate and challenge. If you're good with social sciences take him. Most people who complain about him are right out of high school and need to get over themselves and learn with some professors you work for your grade as it is your responsibility. Plus, he's super funny, overall great experience.
Honestly the greatest professor i had at Palomar! he taught me more than political science he really made the class interesting and insightful. Hard if you dont attend class but easy if you try.
He is very passionate about teaching! Hes a pretty cool laid back guy. I was only in his class for a few weeks but stopped going because i was not prepared for his class at all and became overwhelmed with my other 4 classes. He is a great professor and if you like POSC i suggest you take his class.Be prepared though
I took his Poli Sci 101 and 102. By far my favorite teach at the school. He is passionate about the lessons and gets you excited for them as well. The class is hard, but he offers lots of opps to get EC. But if you take this class, you WILL learn a lot, and you will probably end up LIKING poli sci after it. dont wait on 101 essay, if you do, you wi
He is an amazing teacher!! One of my favorites, by far! Make sure you do your weekly responses(they are really easy), and start working on your paper early! He is very willing to help, and very approachable.
Hands down, the best professor in all of Palomar. He is funny, interesting, and knows his stuff. Even if you hate Polisci, you will love it after this class.
MOST AMAZING TEACHER EVER! :D
One of the best teachers I have ever met. His enthusiasm and passion is contagious. He is extremely talented and such an inspiration. This class... no, this TEACHER, has changed my whole life. Thank you Professor Limer.
Had a great time. Prof Limer really cares about teaching and the students. Life changing.
great teacher, but the main gripe i have with him is the erratic grading of essay tests (all three were essays). he doesn't tell you exactly what he wants, but docks you for not doing it. if you try really hard you might get an a, and the lectures are great, but if you're not the hermione type, go for someone easier.
Proud to say I earned my A. If you're not sure you are serious about college yet, then he isn't the one for you. I took both posc 101 and 102, studied my butt off, and came out with a better understanding of the political system. Thank you Limer!
this teacher is very difficult and dosent help when needed. horrible teacher.
I might be a PoliSci major, but this was an amazing way to start off college. Got that cute little nerd in sweater-vests attitude. Extremely passionate about what he teaches. Tests are super easy. 5 min debate is almost impossible to fail, you get a c just for trying. Never cracked open the book or studied. He teaches that well!TAKE HIM
Best professor.. entertaining.. you have to put in effort but its worth it
I have gone to this professor with questions, every single one answered. An absolute JOY to attend, I look forward to this class. Cute, nerdy, asian in glasses with a PASSION for his subject. Prof gives "C" just for attempt during debates. Gives poetry slams during breaks in between lectures. TAKE HIM! If you're paying to attend, he IS worthwhile!
Gives multiple choice questions & essay prompt class BEFORE test! Does not assign HW. Debates are given "C" just for effort. I have emailed him regarding these debates, & he'll tell you what to research. HE'S AMAZING! SO passionate, SO helpful.
Limer is a passionate professor who cares about his students' futures. He is not "easy," but is clear and precise in his directions. Book use is not mandatory but helpful. In 102 there is a long policy paper and 7 minute debate. Come Prepared. USE SOURCES. And DO NOT SKIP his classes/reviews.
He really esay and if you stay after class he helps you a lot!
Out of all my professors, I still think he is the best. He always makes you want to learn the material, and the class is fun. Make sure to take his classes!
Best Teacher I have ever had by far. He is not afraid to tell you what he thinks, will challenge you and if you take the effort to try in his class you will be rewarded not only by him but you will improve yourself greatly.
a firey, exciting professor. even if you don't like politics/law he'll put it in a whole new world for you. make sure you read the material before class cause he hates it when no one is interacting. the best part is that he doesn't push any of his political beliefs, very neutral. very easy to approach if you need help all you have to do is ask :)
Professor Limer is an incredible professor! Not only is he passionate about philosophy, he is also passionate about poetry and combines the two throughout lectures. His energy makes coming to class a thrill! It isn't an easy class, but if you come to lectures and participate, you should do fine in the class! He is an amazing teacher! Take him!!!
This teacher is absolutely AMAZING with this subject. He's extremely passionate, and knowledgeable. He also does slam poetry for his classes and during his free time. Basically, i'm not brilliant at Pol. Sci but I worked hard and couldn't be happier with choosing to take this course with this teacher, he's my favorite by far!
I took Limer for both POSC 101 and 102. He is incredibley sharp and well versed in his art. However the work is somewhat rigid and is a heavily essay based. He teaches you to present well formed arguements, a skill you will need when it comes to your debate in his class. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND HIM, BUT IN NO WAY IS IT AN EASY A!
AWESOME PROFESSOR!! Extremely difficult subject but that's why you should take him! Debate/essays/critical thinking.. very well rounded academic course. He does spoken word poetry and is entertaining as well as helpful when you ask for it.. you can tell he expects great things from his students. Oh.. he also hates ratemyprofessor.
Okay teacher. Class is mostly about Supreme Court cases. Book is used rarely, exams are mostly based off notes and he gives essays/multiple choice ahead of time. NEED to go to class. Bowman is easier but not as intelligent. He seems to care about also appears overwhelmed. He will make time for you if you request it.
Limer has class. He is such an artsy fellow. He amazes the class with his slam poetry, which is just phenomenal and inspiring. He has a passion to create this friendly vibe and connection with his students. He is so, so, so passionate about the material. I can't tell you how much I learned from this class. Limer is just terrific.
His class is based on discussions of the topic, a debate, easy to conquer tests, and a paper, al of which he is more than willing to help with. To make up for missed points, he offers plenty of extra credit.
If you want to go to law school, Limer is your guy. Class is based around Supreme Court Cases and critical thinking. This class will make you work and is by no means an easy "A", but you will learn a lot from a professor who is extremely passionate and helpful. Exams are heavily essay based. STUDY! You will FAIL if you don't.
He tests similar to how they test in Law school. Great practice if you're looking into the legal profession. Tests are heavily essay based; you will determine the constitutionality of hypothetical issues and back up your argument with real Supreme Court Cases. Awesome class; not an easy A, but VERY possible if you put in the effort. I earned my A!
Probably one of the very few professors I'd have a beer with. His tests and essays are difficult but he covers the topics extensively in his lectures (When he says to take notes and study, he's right). His lectures are always straight to the point and doesnt waste time with BS. He may appear to be harsh/mean, but he cares deeply about his students.
Sarcastic and sometimes can cross the line but overall a really cool professor. cool does not always equal easy. Take lots of notes and study hard for the exams and you will do fine. Having good memorization skills and organized notes will help you a lot on the essays
Excellent professor. Extremely knowledgeable. Thought provoking in the way he presents material. Energetic and excited to teach. You can tell he loves what he does. He's not easy and will really make you work for your grade. Never miss a review before a test and do extra credit. His poetry is also amazing!
Prof. Limer was challenging, which helped me learn. Not an easy class but I learned a lot. He's passionate about the subject, but sometimes impatient with questions. Also, he has a tendency to rush through his lecture, so fast that my notes are incomplete. I strongly suggest recording the lectures.
Joe Limer is poorly organized and is very confusing....Do Not take this class!
LOVED this professor and class.
Take him!! Awesome class. You won't regret it.
Love this class, exciting and funny. Make sure to take notes, he teaches in a way that had me remember mostly every thing we talked about in class, makes you earn your grade, passionate teaching. Would definitely take another class with him
Very hard to approach because he's condescending when you do. Takes the sarcasm and offside insults a little too far sometimes. Knowledgable tho.
I wanted to love this class. It's ibe of my favorite subjects. Prof Limer made it hard, and not by challenging content. He was rude and obnoxious towards students when we ask questions. He outright called one guy in my class an idiot. I wouldn't recommend or take him again.
I'm laughing when I read these reviews saying his class was "too hard" or "challenging." It's college! Politics are supposed to challenge you and make you uneasy, that's the point. Limer is passionate, fair and will correct you when you're wrong. Very intellectually stimulating course.
Condescending, rude, thinks he walks on water, little man complex, impossible to approach, and just cuts you down regardless of your question. He only likes you if you take part in his poetry club that he gives extra credit for (which has nothing to do with the class). I love polisci and this prof is ruining it for me just because of how he is
Would not recommend. It's not that Prof Limer is a difficult professor, it's that he's very unpleasant to deal with. He can be outright mean to students even with simple questions. And don't express your own opinion; he'll let you know just how stupid he thinks you are for daring to breathe the same air as him.
This professor is fair and he warned all of us of the difficulty of the course early on. I do not recommend this course to anyone who isn't willing to put in the work to get a good grade or is so sensitive that they can not handle some simple criticism and some more advice for those who can't or won't, just drop all college courses and stay home.
Awful!!! Dude has a Napoleon complex and takes it out on his students. If he offered constructive criticism, it would be one thing. Unfortunately, he's just bitter and mean.
AMAZING he gets you thinking, He's clear about his expectations. Lays all the info in front of you that you need for tests and success. Tons of extra credit! very passionate about what he does, he teaches you to think, rather than what to think! best teacher I have ever taken at Palomar College!! barely used book, and no boring power points!
Professor Limer utilizes guided discussions, hypotheticals, and anecdotes in his funny and informative lectures. Impress him early on by doing the extra credit. We had 3 essay format, hand-written, challenging exams and an oral debate. If speaking and writing aren't your strong points, hold on tight and do the extra credit.
Loved his class, make sure you go to class and pay attention and you will get an easy B
This professor was a bit strict but that is a good thing because that is what made me want to learn. I advise students not to skip class because he goes over a lot of things in one class. He doesn't really leave homework and if he does it is simple assignments. Do not procrastinate on a 20 page paper that he assigns, it's easy though.
Best professor I've ever had. Made the lectures filled with boring material rather intriguing and interesting. He gives you the mult choice questions and the essay question well before the exam. He clearly states numerous times what he expects to be in your paper(s). And he offered 20 extra credit points. He's always available after class as well.
He's an awesome teacher but requires you to put in the work and study time. Makes the lectures interesting and lively. Awesome class but take good notes
Solid Professor! Anyone who wants to bash his personality is missing the fact that when he teaches, he's doing his job, which is to give you the facts & promote critical thinking, unfortunately this can be challenging for a lot of people at a JC. But If you're serious about PoliSci definitely take his class, you'll learn a lot & be better for it.
Lectures are very fast and given my mouth with no powerpoints to reference. Is very confusing in what he expects on your papers. You have to write to 10+page papers. Says what he wants and then the day you turn them in, says he wanted seeing completely different. Would not recommend unless you thoroughly enjoy political science.
Professor Limer was the most interesting teacher I've ever had at Palomar. He really wants his students to succeed, and he gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit. On the side, he's a slam poet, and most of his extra credit opportunities spring from there. You need to participate, though. Definitely recommend the class.
Professor Limer is a tough grader! He is very inspirational, especially with his lectures. He knows what he's doing, that means all of his lectures are very important. Buying the book helps.
One of the best professors I 've had, you can even say he's a favorite. I took his 6 week summer class. Sure, it's fast but you have to pay attention to what he's saying. He's clearly passionate about this subject which makes the class interesting. The beginning may be tough but you get used to it. He also gives alot of extra credit opportunities.
Mr. Limer's lectures are very difficult to follow. It is helpful to record him on your phone and review your notes at home. When you write your essays during a test give dates, cases, details that don't seem important and you can get a higher grade. Lots of memorization of details you won't use again. Don't miss class. Ask for help, type on PC
Limer makes you work, this class will NOT be a free A. However if you are looking to go to class, pay attention, and participate, then you will find this class extremely beneficial. After having taken a handful of POSC professors at Palomar I recommend Limer over all others.
Amazing guy, he really does give you plenty of opportunities to pass. Took his 6 week summer class, it was not a walk in the park but he makes boring information like dates and certain cases very interesting and really makes you question the government. Highly Recommend this guy, one of the best professors i've ever had, also he's hilarious.
Amazing professor.
This teacher is seriously amazing! He is willing to work with you to get the grade you want to receive. He gives extra credit and he makes his lectures interesting. Polisci isn't too interesting to me but his lectures are so animated its almost impossible not to pay attention. Exams are fair. Do the work and you'll be good. Overall great teacher.
One of the BEST professors I've had. He gives his students every opportunity to succeed. Take lots of notes, don't skip a class, and participate in class discussions. He is hilarious and makes everything really interesting.
He's a fantastic lecturer, but if you try to approach him after class he becomes cold, condescending, and distant. Even with that, I might still recommend his class to others.
I took POSC 101+ 102 with Joe before transferring out of state to a 4-year. He was the only professor I ever had at the Community College that taught at a University-level and prepared me for transfer. The most amazing lectures and critical thinking strategies. He's not easy, but you won't regret it. You work hard for your grade and he's hysterical
Limer is the kind of professor that you read about in books. He lives to teach and inspire, but he's not just going to hand out good grades. His class is hard, but I would recommend it to any student, especially if you're "not that into politics". I swear, he will change you. This class was amazing, and I am in awe of how much I learned from him.
at first i really dug this guy, but the further we go it seems he must have had a hard time in school. He holds students to very high standards. im a good student, but by far the most difficult instructor ive had in 4 years. 10+ page papers, court cases, dates, alot of memorization. the guy has a law degree. im certain hes exactly where he wants2b
The greatest professor I've ever had. He's inspirational to listen too, really makes you think. This is not a class for the light hearted or an easy A. This is a legit university level class that requires time & effort. Papers, lots of writing in the tests, debate in front of the class and constantly pushed for critical thinking. You can't be lazy.
Great professor! I was apprehensive about political science but Limer is fantastic. Makes the lectures interesting and gives very clear guidelines for tests and weekly responses. I'll definitely be taking his 102.
This class was at a University level. He gave lectures. I was responsible for taking notes and writing the papers. He grades based on performance, ie in-class essays and debates. I recommend taking his class after your first year in order to be prepared for his class. Personally, I like challenges, his course was a challenge.
Possibly the most passionate professor I have ever had. Period. To say Prof Limer loves what he does is an understatement. If you want an objective professor in political science take him. You will have to work hard for a good grade, but you can't leave that class room without learning something new, or without a changed perspective.
Prof. Limer's class can be life changing if you are willing to put in the time, and effort that he expects of you. I learned so much about our government, and now I even want to go to law school! He truly does care about his students, and really goes above and beyond in terms of creating lessons that are designed to push your crticial thinking!
One of the best instructors I've ever had - and definitely the best I've had in community college. You will really learn something in his class if you are remotely awake. He brings his subject matter to life and is passionate about the world around him.
If you show up and do the work, you will learn a whole lot (and pass with a good grade.) Personally, I like to get as much education out of my tuition money as possible. If you take a class from Limer, prepare to be educated. If people don't like him, it's because they don't like to be held to high standards. To each his own.
I took two of Professor Limer's courses. He is extremely passionate, well educated, and willing to help anyone. Many of my classmates found him a bit intimidating, but show up and be on time, listen to the lecture, and your class will be a breeze 101 is a breeze and do an extra credit debate (easy points) 102 has a long term paper that sucks
Professor Limer was a breath of fresh air coupled with a high energy demeanor, he is a very animated individual. He does expect you to read the material and do the work, it is not that difficult. Classes include discussion and hypotheticals and he has a "happy dance" when students figure out his questions and understand the cfoncepts. Great class!
Professor Limer truly cares about his students and has a lot of respect for us as well being community college students. He teaches his classes as if he were teaching at a top university and though it is a lot of work it is worth while. Take this teacher!
He's one of the most passionate professors I've ever had, he's lectures are interesting and fun. I did get a textbook for the class and barely read it but still got an A, taking notes were more important in his class. He expects you to do the works, but it's not a super hard class and you learn a lot! It was an enjoyable class :)
Professor Limer provides a great atmosphere and was an entertaining educator. He brings a great amount of passion to the coursework and he absolutley wants every student to succeed. I recommend anyone that has an opportunity to enroll in one of his courses to do so.
Professor Limer was the best professor I ever had. He makes the subject so interesting, so everyone is engaged. Taking this class made me realize I chose the right major. Don't skip class, because you could miss huge hints for tests. Ask on topic questions and take advantage of the extra credit. Would take again!
Limer is awesome. Show up to class, take notes, ask relevant questions, and try your hardest on homework. If you show your try he will drop mega-hints for exams. Impossible to fail with some effort, but that effort doesn't have to be time-consuming.
Professor Limer is an Encyclopedia for anything and everything law. He is wicked smart and it shows during his lectures. He includes all of his students during lecture and makes sure you actually learned everything you need to know for the next test. When the course is over you feel that you want to take his other courses that he has to offer.
So far one of my favorite professors, I'm not the best at political science but he made it understandable. He speaks fast but will repeat himself so shorten your notes so you can get all the info! he is so smart and educated on this subject and cares about his students and wants them to pass, but only if they clearly make an effort
Best professor I've ever had! His class is challenging, inspiring and makes you think. You do need to put in effort to pass (e.g. show up to class, ask questions, see him during office hours for extra help). The negative comments here are from students who don't get the big picture. He's only hard on students who don't pay attention/don't care.
I wish I could take posc 100 over and over again with him. There is a big 15 pg paper at the end of the semester, but his class is priceless. Honestly the best teacher I've ever had. No matter your major, this class will be valuable to you.
You can tell he truly cares about the work he does. Passionate lecturer, very knowledgable, and demands the best from his students. While he does ensure that everyone is challenged and actively learning, he is also a fair grader, and if you put in the work you will succeed. One of the most dedicated and enthusiastic teachers I've ever had.
I have to say that I have never in my life had a better teacher than this man. He was inspirational to say the least and I learned EVERYTHING from this guy. I went on to Harvard law and I really owe it all to this guy. He's the one that sparked that love of Poli Sci. His papers are very involved but extremely fun. Take his class as much as you can.
I took Limer's class and was expecting another Professor to be the instructor, but I stayed in his class and boy did I learn way more than I would have had I taken the Professor I thought I wanted. Limer's class is pretty challenging, but if you actually put in real effort and work hard on your papers and show your face you will do fine. Love him!
Writing this review based on the Poli Sci 100 class. Not only did we have to buy a book that was almost 200 pages just for exact information that could be found on online. We were required to write a 30-page paper with 50 sources. Ridiculous amount of work for a class. Took very little out of it because his lectures were very fast.
Professor Limer requires you to think, and if you are looking to learn something its a great class, but not necessarily an easy A. There is a lot of work in the final paper... I'm talking 20 pages, with 50 sources. But the lectures and the class itself is very insightful and you will really think a lot in his class about things that matter.
I went to hell and back with this class, but I honestly learned so much from Limer. He makes you work for your grade and his tests are difficult if you don't put in the effort to come to class and study, but he teaches you a lot and I have the upmost respect for him and his class. As long as you put in the effort and show up, you'll pass.
I would not take his class again
I absolutely loved Limer! By far one of the best professors I have ever had! He is hilarious, super passionate, and makes class so interesting! I learned so much in his class! A lot of people dropped the first couple weeks, thinking he was too difficult, big mistake! He is hard at first but will give you an A or B if you try! Definitely take him!
Please for the love of god dont sign up for his class. He picks favorites and if youre not one of them he will literally bully you until you drop.
The lectures are a little long, but if the class participates in discussion then they are generally interesting. Big on debates and teaches the class more like a law class, which can be difficult to keep up with. Hes really funny and wants to help, if you arent respectful in class he can be a bit rough, but hes a really nice teacher otherwise.
Lecture are a bit long really interesting if you engage. He is loud and straight to the point, make sure that your are learning what he is teaching you, your essay portions of the exams that's the information he wants, not what you found online. So get a class buddy to share notes if you miss and you will be fine. You'll have to work for an A.
The number one way to earn his respect and give it to yourself, is come to class on-time ready to work. His lectures can be fast, so I recorded them; problem solved. There is a book and on-line assignments but your notes for his lectures are where all the answers are to the exam questions. He puts a heavy emphasis on essays to develop your voice.
Prof. Limer is a very knowledgeable man with much to teach. He gives out plenty of extra credit, many of which are very easy. He is always present for office hours if you have any questions. His class is very difficult and he assigns immense workloads. He is a tough grader and has laborious tests. would not recommend anyone taking his class.
Joe Limer is a wonderful professor. If you put in the effort and attend the class, you will be rewarded. There's a lot of tough love but it ultimately helps you understand what's expected at the next level. I feel very prepared for my upper-division and graduate work! Take him if you love polisci/law because he is a wealth of knowledge.
Very knowledgeable of the material he teaches but teaches in a way that he would expect you to know the amount of material he knows. Fast paced during his powerpoints. Communication via email is answered longer than expected. Along with that being said its wise to only take his class if you actually need to.
Honestly, really chilled professor as long as you're in class ready to learn, take notes and do your homework it's a really straightforward class.
Worst teacher ever. he took every absence and bad grade as a personal attack on him. his behavior is belittling and he said he likes to offend people without them realizing it. the entire class is afraid of him/asking a single question out of fear they will be harassed. doesnt reply to email or post lecture notes. uses bullet notes on word 2 teach
He was one of the best professors I've had. He is knowledgeable and extremely passionate about law. Don't take this class for an easy A or if you don't care about the subject. Otherwise, he will nurture and challenge the lawyer inside of you. Every lecture is intriguing but sometimes he does get too excited.
Professor Limer has by far one of my toughest professor's I have ever had, he assigns a lot of work, tests are fairly tough and you must show up to each class or you will be far behind (he doesn't post his lectures or any material on canvas). However, he is deeply passionate about his work and I respect him greatly. If you sign up, be ready to WORK
With Corona Virus being the center of attention this semester. Professor Limer really went and extended his hand to help students in his classes to make the transition smoother. However, don't take these actions as a sign that he's an easy professor, you really got to work for your grades.
Clear, concise lectures and very good at answering specific questions. Willing to help if you're showing real effort. Debates are important, so are the papers but they're not difficult. Very passionate and knowledgeable, easy to talk to and very understanding. Humor may be off putting to some
Professor Limer makes you work for your grade. He is pretty cut throat, but this shouldn't scare you. If you come to class, and work hard he has no problem helping you. He understands you have obligations outside of class as well, and is willing to work around your schedule. Not an easy A, but worth it. I learned so much, and am so thankful for him
Prof. Limer teaches and communicates as if his goal is to embarrass his students. His instructions are never clear and the format of his lectures look like he came up with them right before class. I had the misfortune of taking his course during a pandemic. When campus closed we received a total of 4 emails, no lectures or meetings.
I took POSC101 with Professor Limer online and it was a great class. He uses cengage and its a really easy thing to use for assignments and reading. He did a couple of zooms before the semester actually started so that he could answer any questions we had. I recommend this class!
The laziest teacher I have ever had he does not care about his class and just assigns online work that he didn't even make. It's honestly crazy that a man this lazy can be a proffessor.
Only a few zooms to help on homework and before finals. Really good at helping work is pretty easy. If you like more independent work and learn better that way this is 100% the class to take i learned a lot
Do the work and make a valid effort and you'll pass. The professor is easily reachable. The mid-term and final are pretty tough, but make a valid effort and you'll get a good grade. The class is super independent (as in, you're on your own as far as learning). No lectures with Covid :( I would actually enjoy this professors lectures.
I took political science 100 and 102 with professor limer and enjoyed his class. The textbook is required and it is $60 but it is very helpful for at studying and to do assignments. He holds zoom lectures and meetings often for help and clarification or extra credit. Not too much work, but definitely cant slack off.
He is a tough professor and will expect a lot out of you. Dont take this class if you want to lay low and get an easy A. Professor Limer will make you work for it - especially during the live debate. If you want a challenge then hes the right one for you. It felt really good and rewarding getting an A because his class slayed me.
This was the hardest/most rewarding class I have taken in my college career so far. He is intimidating from the start but he says it himself that he teaches like if you were in law school. You have to do IRAC law case studies, write timed papers and do a live debate. It was hard but I kept coming to class because I felt like I was actually learning
Professor Limer, although respectful and lenient when it comes to homework deadlines, assigns tests that are much too extensive. The three tests that I was assigned this semester were insanely daunting and took entire weekends to complete, taking up all of my time, forcing me to take days off work and cancel plans. I would not recommend his class.
Professor Limer is passionate about the intersection of law and politics. In taking his class do not expect to get a good grade unless you read each case, look into the background of said case, and apply principles you've learned from his lectures. The class consisted of three major exams that he gives you the weekend to take. Hard, but worth it.
I was never aware that he had zoom classes, this might have been because they were not mandatory? But I do recommend attending them because my grade suffered since I didnt attend these lectures for extra information. The tests he gives are RIDICULOUS, attending lecture or not. They are long and require thorough details and explanations.
He's a GOAT. No one greater. His tests are difficult and will take up your whole weekend. If you take the time to listen to his lectures, he gives you the answers via critical thinking. His class is straightforward and I learned a ton. Great class!
Prof Limer (an attorney) is very passionate & knowledgeable in law + willing to help outside of class. He can read the room well & uses it to relate to us more. His lectures are often & worth taking notes on, try not to miss class! Get comfortable w reading cases & writing briefs. He referenced txtbk but not req'd if u pay attention to lectures.
Good lectures with lots of knowledge. Good to come in with some understanding of government functions and cases but he can help elaborate too if you're ever lost. Btw PS121 and LS 121 are the same class, just cross-listed based on certain major requirements
Rest in peace professor
I took his class in 2017, it was so hard and so rewarding. I am now pursuing law school all because of this guy. I was gonna email him and thank him but saw his obituary instead. So, I'm writing this on here now because I kinda feel weird. After CC I transferred to a UC and his class remained the hardest class I've ever taken. Thanks Prof Limer RIP
Professor Limer has been my favorite professor at Palomar. He is the first professor I have ever enjoyed listening to and I felt like I was really learning in his class. His lectures are extremely easy to follow and listen along to. While he is a tough grader, you'll be thankful for it. His teaching style is the best I have encountered.
Professor Limer's class was a rewarding challenge. While tough, his teaching style was engaging. Unstuck AI was a helpful study tool alongside the free textbook. Attend lectures, do the work, and you'll learn a lot.
