Lectures are a little boring, but he doesn't expect a lot from you. Only have to write one paper which isn't too bad.
This is the easiest class avaliable at IUP. Just take the notes he puts on the board and show up for the quizes and tests and you have an A. A word of advice...you need the book so buy it.
Dr.Mannard doesnt know how to chew his gum with his mouth closed!!! he makes freaky noises during class. His lectures are so boring that you'll actually have to hold your eyes open to stay awake! ckkkckckckkckkkkcckkkckkkkkcccckkkk
Good prof, the man knows what he is talking about. If you pay attention in class you will do good, lazy people beware do not take this class. Overall i would take him for a class again, great educator!
Good prof. I will be taking him again as a hisotry major, for sure
He was okay. Very scatter-brained - you never know where he's going with a comment (in fact, he sometimes forgets where he's going with his thoughts). But, under his average teaching ability is a very sharp mind. He'd make a better dissertation advisor...
Ver good teacher, I hated history until his class. Everyday he lectures on a topic(s) but he is able to make it come across like a story rather than a lecture, just go to class and listen and you will have a good grade!
Glad to see he is still teaching. I dislike to read history, but Dr. Mannard helped me to overlook the history part. Lots of work, but great prof. I worried he would be gone, when IUP-Kittanning closed. You rock.
He is a good guy...He may be qorky, but he is very lax and just wants you to learn some valuable things to get you in good practice being a historian. Lighten up some of you...we all have problems, so what if he makes noises. He is recommended!
I had him for summer school and I didn't like the class AT ALL.His notes are no help for tests, and he just doesn't make sense.half the time he's talking about his kids and making weird jokes that aren't even funny. maybe he's different during regular yr&
He is a good teacher to take atleast for history. The entire class was one big story telling session, which made history interesting and I hate history!
he knows his stuff, sometimes class was interesting, other times it got boring. tests weren't too bad.

Very good teacher, and hockey is his favortie sport, so we got along just fine
I had him in the summer. He tests are difficult but if you study the maps and do well on your quizzes you will do well. he is a nice guy and he knows a lot of what he is talking about. I thought the class was kinda hard so you have to study
By far the easiest HIST 195 prof. 2 hours a week tops got me a high "A". Helluva guy too.
Excellent Prof. I recommend you take him
i had him for history of religion in america, the classes were boring, tests were hard, they were all matching, study up!
Dr. Mannard is a great teacher. I've had him for two classes and enjoyed them both. He explains subject matter very clearly and is very helpful.
great teacher
teh class is easy enough but he is annoying.. he eats all class and chews while he's teaching and throws lil fits like high school teachers wen no one wants to answer his stupid question... but the class is an A if u can put up with him.
Dr. Mannard is not able to do anything with technology or anything of the sort, he gets mad and yells. His tests are easy if you take good notes and study. Quizs help your grade and he gives you the questions before hand, who could ask for more?!
Easy grader, who gives you more than an adequate chance to do well in his class. He was very forgiving for me, and is just generally an Amusing person.
The quizes are easy because there is a study packet. Half of each test consists of learning the countries of different continents-- multiple choice. He also tells you exactly what dates you need to know for the tests. Easy. Attendence is important on discussion days.
I had him my first semester at IUP and I wish all my professors were that nice. Just do the quizzes, study the maps, and read the books. He loves when people answer his questions. I also found it hilarious when someone left before class was over and he tore up their quiz. So stay the whole class!
Mannard is really cool. He's SO forgiving... If you have trouble in his class just go and talk to him and he'll set you up with good ways to study for his tests. Discussions are key. It occured to me that teaching makes him really happy. Take him. He's fun; a great guy.
Great professor! Goes into detail and cares about students. One of the few profs that seems to enjoy teaching.
He's an all-around great guy. His tests are multiple choice, maps, and a chronology. You have these last two well before the actual exams. He has discussions, weekly quizzes (to which you have all the questions beforehand), and a single paper that's pass/fail. He's funny, caring, and nice.
Dr. Mannard rocks!!! Lots of energy, knows what he's talking about, and has a sense of humor. Would definatly take him again. Last class was a book discussion with cake and coffee.
Dr. Mannard is one of my favorite profs here. He's enthusiastic, always has time for students in his office, and always picks amazing course readings. My experiences with him have been nothing bu positive and I would reccomend him to anyone who is considering taking him.
His class was easy basically just notes. Need notes for tests. Tests are hard and you have to know allot of names. You write allot of papers but you learn alot in the class. If your lookin for a blow off class this isn't it.
This guy pretty much rocks. He knows what he's talking about and has tons of energy. His tests are kinda hard though. He'll tell you that they're easy before you take them, then give you a C for not including the exact dates. But he likes Bruce Springsteen, so I guess it's okay.
He is so knowledgeable and funny that it is hard not to go to class. Usually his lectures follow an outline with good examples to expand on the main ideas. However, sometimes he seems really out of it. Also we often watched videos as part of class. He seems genuinely interested in his students learning more than getting caught up in policies.
Best teacher, a history guru and a nice person. His exams are not that hard, he tells you in advance what you need to know and then he expects you to know it. it is Resonable. Work hard and he will help you in all ways. By the way, for your own best, do not even try to mess around with him.
Mannard sucks. He's one of those teachers that gets mad when you don't find his lectures interesting, especially if you're like me and you don't enjoy History at all. He flips out on the class, and swears like a sailor (yes he says F*ck when he's mad), which I don't find to be very professional. Please ignore the smileys!!
Easy course. Fun guy, made Puritans and Quakers interesting! One of the better teachers out of this department. 4 book reports, some reading responses, 3 exams. Would definately take this professor again.
Very unorganized and unprofessional.
Prof makes class easy by giving you a booklet with all the quizzes & chronology & misc info. He does expect class participation & will yell & swear at the class if not enough people participate. Easy A if you put forth a little effort taking class notes(he writes them on the board for you), memorizing chronology(timeline 22 dates/events)& 4 maps.
4 tests and quizzes every week but you know excatly whats on the quiz if you do your course packet so they are easy. Participate and you will do fine he likes to swear but thats to hold you attention.
Great teacher. Just go to class and you will get an A. Quizes on wednesdays and opportunity for extra credit every friday. Exams are pretty straight forward. TAKE HIM!
Good teacher...easy class. quizes on wednesdays. notes everyday but if you stay up on your readings you dont even have to go to class to pass the exams.

Umm well I dislike this class got a C in it which sucked. The test were hard for me because it always seemed like the notes never went with the test. Plus I never went to that class maybe beacause it was at 9am so i would say if you go to the class write down everything he talks about and you'll pass. Essay is easy.
This professor makes it difficult to be in the class if you are any other religion than Christian. His entire world is that Christianity was the first religion, not. If you don't know all about being a Christian, you are out of luck. Maybe this guy needs to study more about the real first religion, and teach about it. Truth and balance.....
Dr. Mannard really cares about his job. You'll realize this very soon especially if you go to his office for any help or to introduce yourself. The key to get an A in the class is to write down notes next to the outline he gives you every day. If you do this and study a day or two before the test, you'll do fine. There's no need to read book.
A very easy grader by way of papers...I've barely tried and done well on them. That threw me off for the test. I figured it would be easier than it was.
Awesome Prof. I had a lot of legit issues with attendance and he was super helpful with everything. Gives quiz questions before quizzes so you can look up all of the answers. Have to memorize a map & a few dates for each test so you have a guaranteed 40 points. Test a bit hard, but overall just need to do a little work for a decent grade. Take Him!
HE IS A GREAT PROF, DO HOMEWORK WHICH IS THE SAME AS THE QUIZES THAT HE GIVES EVERY WEDNESDAY, TEST ARE FAIRLY EASY JUST KNOW MAP AND DATES AND YOU'LL DO FINE..TAKE HIM!!!OH YEAH BUT BOOK!!
He's an alright teacher. You have to read 3 books and he refers to the text book a lot. We had 4 exams including th final and no midterm. The exams are on lectures and what you go over in class, the documents from class discussion and the books. You get points for the discussion just for attending. Exams are kinda hard just study.
He's good. He's a nice guy. He has an outline up the entire class during lectures, but that's it. QUIZZES ARE REALLY EASY BC THEY COME STRAIGHT FROM THE STUDY GUIDES HE GIVES WORD FOR WORD. (can't do study guide w/o the book so you need it) PS study guides took me over an hour to do. map on tests(find a game online to learn makes it easier.)
Does not give notes to take, rambles on about hockey and nothing for the entire time your there. Only has an outline for notes. Chews his gum loudly and drinks his water the same way. May be bipolar.
Nicest professor ever. He really cares about his students and will go out of his way to help you in any way. You can easily obtain an A in his class if you just write some notes on the outline he gives you each day and review the outlines a couple days before the exam. He is without question, the best professor for HIST 195. Take him!
Very good prof. He knows his stuff and keeps his students on task. Expects alot from you though. Really cares about assignments and reads them while making generous comments.
Easy professor. Class is pretty boring and the lectures are pointless. He is a very nice guy. Had to read 3 books but wasn't too bad. Quizzes are word for word from the study guide. Read the book and do the study guides and you won't have to go to class except for quiz and test days.
I missed about half of the classes. He is reasonable when it comes to making stuff up. Yes the class is pretty tough. But he is a really nice guy at the end of the day and just wants u to be just as excited as he is about history. If you actually want to learn something take him.
He is extremely nice. Grades easy on the papers. Lots of reading but pretty good selections. Tests are hard if you dont study. But he gives you outlines for the notes and exam study sheets so that makes it much easier. TAKE HIM!
Really nice teacher and the class is pretty interesting. Go to class and take good notes and you should be fine his test are not that hard. There are Quizes every wednesday, he gives the questions ahead of time so you should get at least a 100 or 90 on every one if you try. I would reccomend him hes really helpful too and wants you to do well!!!
This class was pretty good. He knows what he's talking about and makes class pretty intersting. Attendance is not required but there is a weekly quiz. If you take good notes from his lectures you'll do fine on the test.
Awesome professor. Really cares about his students and makes history fun. There is alot of reports and the tests are hard. But there is no attendance policy and he is really understanding when it comes to making stuff up. He should running the whole History department. Unlike most prof he actually gives a crap about the success of his students.
You want an easy A, don't take him. Every week there's a quiz. There are NO bonus or extra activities for you to do. Exams from lecture notes, so if you don't want to write while he lectures, don't take him. He's kinda funny but all you lazy people don't take him.
This was the hardest class i had this semester. The only thing easy about this class are the quizzes. All he does is give a very vague outline and expect you to pass the test. If you are good with vague outline then take him. i should have dropped this class
Excellent prof!! he really cares about students and will do whatever he can to help you out. I've learned more in his classes than all of the other hist classes combined. I agree w/the other comment that he should be running the hist dept!! One of the best profs I've had at IUP and I would definitely recommend him to everyone, but be ready to work!
Great Professor! Used the book with his $10 study guide every Wed for quiz (word 4 word the same) Homework took 2.5 hours/week. 1 Essay took 1 night at the library. Notes in class from lecture are clear. Much detail but not impossible to get an easy A on exam if you try to learn/enjoy History. Not a blow-off professor, but not the "easy" one.
Attendance isn't mandatory, but gives quizzes once a week. Quizzes are identical to his $10 study guide. Exams aren't based on the quizes, take detailed notes on his lecture outlines. Very enthusiastic for teaching mostly to non-history majors.
He's cool and all but his tests are extremely hard and have nothing to do with the outlines or "notes" he calls them. The quizzes though are very easy because they're the same thing as the course packet. Not that much work but still.
Probably one of my most favorite teachers at IUP. Easy, easy, easy class. It isn't mandatory to go, but he makes it interesting. 1 quiz every week, but it's word for word out of a $10 packet you have to buy. Tests are from his "notes" so pay attention to what he says. And you have to write one paper, due at the end of the semester. TAKE HIM
His lectures were interesting because of his good sense of humor and knowledge on the material. I very much enjoyed this class, it got me interested in US history.textbook was useful & also read 'Black Robe'& wrote a paper on it,which was interesting and I'll never forget. Very friendly, caring, and funny. If you have to take a US history, take him!
Makes highly uncomfortable jokes with students, and easy to get off topic to waste the last 10 minutes of class. His tests are unorganized chaos causing students to over study and forget things during tests. If his other classes are like this, I don't want to take another by him. But knows his stuff and shows enthusiasm for the content area.
Very passionate about history, offers extra credit opportunities. You do need to do extensive research for an essay, but you have several months to do it. Sort of rambles, so it's hard to take notes - he offers a generic outline though which you can email him for. There is 1 textbook + 3 additional books you have to read for this class.
great proffesor. planning to take him next semester
Nice guy. Enjoyed this class and most of the books he assigned. Go see him in his office if you need help!
The quizzes sucked and so did some of the readings, but he's all right. He's a very understanding and kind professor who loves his job. I would take him again.
If you are bad at history to begin with then don't take this class with Dr. Manard. I haven't learned a thing, he expects you to just know the stuff already
Teaches history with humor and is very interesting. Keeps you apprised of your grade and what you need to work on. Gives points for attending class and even more for participation. Gives interesting projects for extra credit. Cares about the student and hisher understanding of the material. Definitely a great prof. Has a good sense of humor!
I am not a fan of History, but Dr. Mannard made my required history course very enjoyable. He expected you to read, and to work but had many opportunities to boost your grade. The tests were average, and the paper was easy. The discussions were essential to passing, and all the books were required. I would recommend this class to anyone.
This man is one of the most down to earth professors you will ever have. This was unfortunately my last gen. ed. class for my undergraduate degree. And it was a great last class I had that fulfilled my requirements. Going to class is very important and it is really enjoyable. I would take him again in a heartbeat
I've had Dr. Mannard for a couple of semesters now and I loved going to class! he's a great teacher, makes the content interesting and is willing to help you if you need it. The books he assigns are very interesting and dont feel like a drag to read them, as well as the papers. He's a cool prof, take him!
3 short and easy quizzes, 3 tests (which he often curves), and 1 paper that i'm not even sure he reads. Easy class if you go but you must participate. Dr. Mannard is a nice guy and means well but he can be a little confusing and can go off on tangents. Overall easy A if given some effort
I genuinely enjoyed Dr. Mannard's class. I enjoyed his teaching style & the way he structures his class. We have three quizzes, one essay and two exams, which are curved. Every week, we do document o book discussions; you get credit for attending the discussions and extra credit for participating. Overall, I recommend Dr. Mannard as a professor.
Dr. Mannard is a great teacher, his lectures are well planned and he gives you a basic outline at the beginning of class. However, you still need to take notes because anything he says can be on the test. Sometimes you will have to memorize timelines or dates. Overall, a great class, learned a lot, and he made history really enjoyable.
Dr. Mannard is a great professor and his class is fairly easy. He's really flexible and will work with you to help you succeed.
Good professor overall, does go off on tangents but if you stay focused then you'll do fine. Emails handouts for notes, content is not hard
Dr. Mannard is a great professor.
Took for US History. I am awful at history and always was, but I managed to get an A in this class. He gives extra credit opportunities such as attending history related events that take place on campus... TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! He also has book discussions and document discussions so be ready to participate in them for credit! He is a cheerful man.
Dr. Mannard was a great professor, very passionate about history and everything he taught. He graded every exam on a 10 point curve, which was extremely helpful if you are not the greatest in history. Make sure you read any documents/novels that he assigns & be ready to participate in book discussions as that is where many extra credit points come.
Material is hard to retain not really the same as on the test, lots of memorization
hes a funny guy but not the best prof if you're not ready to follow a lengthy lecture. passionate about the subject but tough to follow
Dr. Mannard is a great professor! His lectures are fun. His quizzes are easy if you read and study the material.
He really cares about his students. He is super kind and will totally help you if you fall behind. Just study because the class itself is kinda hard.
Dr. Mannard was an easy professor. His lectures were a tad boring if you arent interested in the topic hes teaching. His jokes are corny. Dont dare eat in his class. Overall, he is a genuine person and in my opinion a great professor.
Hes an adjunct professor at Seton Hill and hes been awful. He graded all of our exams using another students (in the class) exam. He wont let us eat in class. He throws hissy fits over cancelling a class because of a break or bad weather. Dont take his class unless youre prepared to teach yourself the material.
He's such a cool guy and really cares about his students.
Grades are heavily weighed on exams and a research paper we have to do (you don't get to pick the topic). Don't eat in class or be on your phone. His lectures can be boring if you're not interested in the topics. Personality wise, he is funny and willing to help in any way he can. This class is an easy A if you attend class and pay attention.
Professor Mannard is the best history professor at IUP. He is kind, caring, hilarious, and great at teaching. His exams are a little difficult, but he grades on a curve. His quizzes are super easy. If you don't do too good on the tests, you can make up for it by receiving participation points.
He's really fun and one of the most obviously knowledgeable when it comes to history I have ever met. We had to read 2 biographies but they were short. His 3 exams and 1 paper are the only significant things you will be graded on so be prepared for those. He does email the class outlines every week so you can use them to help study.
He is a nice and funny professor but the class is pretty hard if you dont like history. Graded on in class discussions about books. Exams are tough and theres a heavy essay towards the end. Very nice professor but hard material
Dr. Mannard is a good dude. The exams are pretty hard, you have to study. But if you show up and do all the other assignments and read, you'll be fine. He likes to tie religion into his lectures which is annoying. He is very knowledgable on history. Dont use your cellphone in class, he will call you out.
He is a great professor, I was skeptical of him at first but I've learned to enjoy his class. His exams are extremely difficult so make sure you study like crazy if you know there is an exam coming up. He tries to relate what we're learning to modern-day things the best that he can. I would recommend taking him but give it time to start liking him
Mannard is knowledgable but the class is a lot for a basic history class. Lectures are super boring but you need to pay attention for the exams. You read 3 separate books (on your own time), in-class graded discussions weekly, 1 page paper due every week, 1 big paper at end of semester, exams are hard even when you study. Lots of work. 4.5/10
I love Dr Mannard! He does give grades based off participation but class is super fun to engage with. His tests were easy if you listened in lecture and it relates a lot of topics to stuff thats fun to talk about. Hes also super easy to get in touch with. I looked forward to his class all semester!!
Dr. Mannard was the best. His lectures can get boring but you can tell he loves what he is talking about. He is very understanding and is willing to help when needed. I would another course with him if I could. Defiantly recommend him to anyone.
Dr. Mannard was totally awesome, exams aren't too difficult, if you do the work as instructed in the rubric, you're getting an A. His lectures are actually fun, he always tries to relate the material to real-life or current events which helps a lot with understanding. Just pay attention and show up to lectures.
Dr. Mannard never fails to be both entertaining and informative, he has a clear passion for history and cares about his students.
Pretty weird guy, but a nice professor. I had him over zoom so his class was pretty easy. Lecture heavy with a couple class discussion days. 3-4 exams and a lot of journal entries of every chapter you read. Easy A if you do the work and go to class.
Pretty chill dude, I've never had an issue with him at all. very entertaining and actually knows what he's talking about. if you get a chance to take a class with him, I'd say go for it!
I am taking this class now and It's ok the lectures are boring and it's hard for me to focus when a teacher is just talking. Exams are hard but he does curve. Particaption is very important during class discussions and there is one essay coming up.
Take notes as much as possible...
He is very sweet and actually quite funny. You do need to participate to receive a full 10/10, but you get 5/10 just for showing up. There is a book you must read or skim through, and answer 3 discussion questions about it at the end of the chapters. Honestly, one of my favorite professors, let me make up exams and all.
Overall a fair, kind prof. extra credit options. He uses the same examples too much tho but good at describing stuff overall. Only major problem with the class is his study guides for 2 exams (25% of grade), puts 20 sets of terms to describe on study guide, chooses half at random which we are tested on. Wastes our time. Lot's of reading for exams.
Overall an okay teacher. Very very lecture heavy and loves to ramble so make sure to be ready to pay attention and try to take notes throughout them. Participation is necessary in class discussions to keep an okay grade. Exams are hard but he normally curves them.
A nice professor, but not recommended for ADHD students due to his rambling, which makes it hard to follow. He frequently mentions his political views, especially about Donald Trump and January 6, which can be annoying. He is also extremely picky on essays; despite usually earning A's and B's, I've received D's on every paper I've submitted.
Easy class, little boring.
Dr. Mannard was very kind, helpful, & accommodating! If you have a problem he is more than willing to work with you. Class is very lecture heavy and can be hard to follow at times. Discussions & participation are important & worth a lot of your grade. Although the tests aren't easy he curved them. Lots of opportunities for points & extra credit!
He didn't like me right off the bat when I didn't even do anything.
Off topic discussions Treats class like highschoolers Will yell at you for eating, being on your phone, or leaving a bit early Does not give proper stricter for when a topic is ending and beginning I've learned more about home life than history
He yells at you for for little things and treat his students like children. He gets very worked up and doesn't know how to use the online textbook so he's not really any help.
Your grade pretty much depends on the three exams throughout the year, will doc you points on assignments for very small things. Phones aren't allowed, but lectures are solid and he explains the information well.
Dr. Mannard is probably one of the best professors I've ever had at IUP. He truly has a passion for history and teaches the material in a way that makes you excited to learn. I never really had an interest in history to begin with, but this class was truly an eye-opener to the complexities of American history. Definitely recommend taking him.
He is a very nice guy and is clear about what we will be doing. There is homework almost every night or reading to be done, but he is a good professor. He has been the best professor I have had in the history department so far and he also do not insult students. I would take this professor again.
hour long lec tures that consists of rambling
Dr. Mannard is an incredible professor who truly cares about his students. He is fair, approachable, and always willing to help if you put in the effort. His feedback is thoughtful and encouraging, and he really wants students to succeed. I learned a lot in this class and felt supported the entire semester. Highly recommend!
