pretty good teacher.. younger guy so he can relate more with college students. trys to explain things as well as possible, likes when class gets involved.. he's also kind of cute...
I have had Professor Maynard going on four semesters now. Hands down, he is one of the best professors and teachers I have ever had. He is kind and cares about his student's success. If it was up to me, every class I took would be with Mr. Maynard. Take his class, you will learn and enjoy while doing so!!

real nice guy! very easy as long as you go to class he'll give you a good grade sometimes gets off subject but its about more interesting things than western civ anyways. i def recomend his classes
Great teacher, knows his stuff not hard at all attend class and listen you will pass if you can keep your eyes off of his ass. it is dee licious! sexy body so sexy!
This is the best teacher in the school.
great teacher. likes when you are involved and show up for class. great body easy to lose concentration on.
Have never seen him before cos i took his class online. To tell you the truth, he very nice teacher because the way he engaged me with the online class i never did before made me fell in love with online class. He made thing and his grade so easy. He gave me word of encouragement sometime. tk him as ur next teacher. Like him.
Best Teacher i ever had. Loved his class and he knows how to relate to his students cause he is young. Good looking too.
hot hot hot!!
Joseph Maynard was one of the best professors I have ever had. He insprired me to major in history. Absolutely take his course, you will learn, enjoy and succeed!!!!!!
This professor is amazing!! He is understanding and helpful with making difficult material very clear! Did I mention that he is very easy to look at!!! He is a great professor, you will enjoy his class!
this class is amazing!! hes such an awsome teacher..no tests he relates the class to whats going on in the world to make you understand better..such a nice guy! really tires to help you
Easy A. This guy is an amazing professor, he makes his subjects very interesting, and will help you along the way!
I took Professor Maynard's online history class and it was hard but I learned a lot. After reading all the comments about his looks, I wish I had taken his class the traditional way. :)
great teacher. makes the subject interesting.
He is an amazing teacher who makes learning fun! He is very intelligent and passionate about what he does~which means alot when you are sitting in class. (He likes smart water, Starbucks and cycling.) Very cute!
If you wanna learn he is the one. I took history twice b4 & dropped those classes because i hated the subject & the teachers style of teaching was off. Then I took his class, he actually cares about you & makes sure u absorb the material. Read the chapters & interact w/him in class, notes will help also. He is the best.
Professor Maynard makes what for some is a boring subject an enjoyable experience. The class isn't very hard, just come to class prepared with a copy of the NY Times, and have the assigned chapters read. His exams are difficult only if you do not read the chapters so be prepared to spend time studying. Overall great teacher and class.
I thought prof maynard made class very interesting... between debating which he seemed to enjoy lol and the nytimes time passed fast..smart guy
Very smart guy, knows his stuff, knows how to explain things clearly and can relate to his students. He made us buy The New York Times every class, but I only had his class twice a week anyway. We got to debate about certain articles and even had some interactive class activities to help us study. Very understanding when it comes to grading fairly.
Great teacher! Very knowledgeable in the subject and keeps you engaged in class so it doesn't feel boring at all. Great lecturer overall. If you need H101, take him!
Great teacher, makes class interesting! Very interactive, you will learn something!
You would be a fool not to take Prof Maynard(Mayno) for as many classes possible. American Government, U.S. History, Western Civ! This guy is energetic and keeps you awake. All he asks is that you show up, participate, and read the NY times every morning. I don't recall any exams. Yeah he's hot to and i'm a dude lol!
the professor he is very plesant, shows movies and it makes the class more interesting, he's very informative, class participation a plus, attend each class, you will enjoy it
great teacher, interesting class, show movies sometime, strong class participation, go to class you will enjoy it
He is a very charismatic speaker. He made history class very interesting. I think no one slept through his class. We go over a lot of material in class, BUT YOU HAVE TO READY THE CHAPTERS, unless you are right out of high school and remember U.S. history. He gets the whole class involved in discussion and hes super friendly
I took Western Civ online with Prof. Maynard. Each week is only between like 4-8 questions on the chapter assigned that week. No tests or quizzes. If you complete the assignments, you're guarenteed a good grade. He's an awesome teacher!
Awesome professor! Any history can be somewhat dry and boring, but he relates the past to the present to make it very interesting! Great discussions! Have taken him twice and will miss him in the future!
So glad I ended up in his class. He relates history to the present; entices you to speak; compels you to go out of the comfort-zone;encourages critical thought debates; has a knack of keeping history interesting and relevant. I have actually considered taking an additional non-degree credit class, merely because I enjoy this class so much. Take him
MAYNARD IS THE BOMB! He knows what he's teaching and relates it to current events! Also shows films to relate to class materials. Would love to take him again.
Such a wonderful, and talented teacher <333
He makes the boring History class to a fun and easy class to take especially if you are a ESL student like me..
very amazing the way he brings the class!!
Well you guys said it all he is the best i will highly recommend him.
He is a very nice teacher not only in history but in other subjects just ask him when you need advice he is good to for people who are confuse in what to do.
Great teacher, great discussions. 10/10 would take again.
Great Prof. Knows his stuff. Links it to current events. Very fair grading. One particular thing I liked is that he made a specific comment to every assignment I wrote. Not just a "good job" but actually read my work and commented on what I said. A lot of reading, but very fulfilling.
Professor Maynard was never online didn't respond to posts. Takes weeks to grade work. Very poor teacher. I will never take another class with him ever
He is the best pro i've ever had. i really admire his way of teaching!! he is an awesome person with great intelligence. everyday he comes up with new topics to talk about and i really enjoyed this class.
Prof Maynard was very interactive with the class; very informative and made the topic of western civilization interesting. His quizzes are fair just DON'T over think it. I can honestly say from day one to the last day, i have NEVER had such an informative professor who made the class an enjoyment. Thank you Prof Maynard!
Maynard doesn't prepare material for the class. He talks for long hours. Test are not from the book and includes questions not covered in class. Avoid Maynard, he will ruin your GPA.
If there was detention in college i would so want him to give me one ;)
Really good teacher, teaches the way humanities should be taught; that is by debate and interaction.
Lovely Professor but note taking is hard because he's all over the place. Very interesting class he really know his History. Recommend highly
HE IS NOT ONLY HOT BUT HE IS A KICKASS TEACHER THAT LOVES HIS STUDENTS. TAKE HIM IS THE BEST ADVICE THAT I COULD GIVE ANYONE THAT HAVE TO TAKE A HISTORY CLASS...
He is an awesome professor. He is really smart, intelligent, and kind person. Totally Recommend him.
He is the best !!
He is nice and seems to be a good teacher and I respect him. However, there were a few quirks- sometimes he would not present the text until 1-3 weeks after the class began and one time he chose a text that he later replaced, which was good because the previous one read like a cookbook. I mean, once he's organized he is a good teacher.
I loved this class! Maynard made the class interesting and fun. He loves when speak what's in your mind. His a very passionate about history. Great teacher. +A
I loved the discussions in his class. He encourages everybody to speak their mind is super nice and his class is one of the few that was one of my favorites. Even when I was struggling with the chapter assessments he was super helpful. If you need a History class I would highly suggest signing up for him.
Pro Maynard is one of the best professors. He really is engaged with his students learning and wants to help you understand the material. A lot of reading...A lot. Test are hard even after reading and taking notes. He can be a little unorganized at times. Don't take this class if your not going to put in the work. Not an easy pass.
Very talkative and excited to teach the class. Let's you pick how you want the semester to go for you.
Knows a lot about History and very helpful answering questions. I will take his class again if i have to, His awesome!
Your whole entire grade is based on online homework that takes a while to do which is why i hated the subject but he is so amazing to work with he understands the struggles and wants everyone to do good. Even though his assignments were tough im glad i took his class.
This professor gave a 50 question multiple choice quiz every week, written assignments (500 words or more) and another 25 question quiz every week that could be retaken if necessary. I knew nothing of American politics so I struggled alot. If you know your politics and have atleast 5-6 hours to dedicate to class you will get an A!
Surprisingly enjoyed this class. I thought Prof. Maynard was super easy, all we had to do was a chp quiz every week and that is it. Again, super easy, and honestly you could find most of the answers for the quizzes on quizlet. Oh but attendance to this class is mandatory, which isn't too bad because his lectures are actually really interesting.
A Superb modern professor. A great storyteller, whom gets the class enthralled. No need to write notes! Just listen, do the online ch. quizzes, and get an A. Because of this teaching style, you will learn more about history than you ever have. No stress about notes or memorizing! Other professors should take notice. A real gem at Gateway.
Prof. Maynard is very educated person very smart and knowledgeable of what he takes about. He has a passion in history which makes the class very enjoyable for the amount of information you will receive specially if you are someone who likes history like myself. I took his class and was very easy all you have to do is online homework and tests.
No homework, no quizzes, barely any exams. You sit while he lectures. He does encourage class participation. The only downside is that he does not post anything in regards to exams there are until the day before. I.E. our final is a take home series of essays which he has yet to post.. said he would 5 days ago :( He is really attractive also ;)
I was disappointed with Prof. Maynard's teaching. He was constantly late to class. If he wasn't at the front of the room talking AT us, he was texting while the students watched videos. Midterm study guide was 50 topics "suggested for review" (25 question m.c. midterm). Our final is 4 essay questions due in 3 days (still not put online as promised)
Professor Maynard is like an ordinary prof. He thrives on discussions and encourages open conversation as historians. I will say that he is a bit disorganized for my taste (never got a syllabus) but after passing the midterm I figured it out, just pay attention to his lectures and the MC exams (2) will be a piece of cake. Easy gen-ed all done.
One of the best Professors Ive ever had! All of the exam questions are from the quizzes, you just have to study them and you should get a passing grade. The essay is interesting and not too hard. Prof. Maynard is very helpful and always encouraging his students to engage in class discussions. If you want to fun teacher that cares, hes the man!
Had him for a summer course for a few weeks and he is one of the best professors
He is the best of the best. Only had 1 take home test through the semester and an essay. He is amazing
easy class no homework just 2 papers midterm and final
He talks way to much, class is extremely boring & he lied and said no midterm or final and we got both along with a 10 pg paper and assignments online with quizzes for each chapter. our final was to study 72 questions! to only have 25 of them on the exam. He rarely lets class out early too. He never gave a syllabus. Hes nice but not a great teacher
Class was super boring, I felt like I didn't learn anything. He only gives a midterm, final, and 10 page paper. All of which was easy because he gave straight forward things to study from and to use. I wouldn't take him again just because I couldn't stand how boring class was but he was a god guy that cares about the students learning
Very lovely person. Cares about what he teaches and really wants it to be fun for you to learn. Attendance does not bother him, cares about your results more.
He gives power points and hours of video then you take the quiz and nothing that you learned after watching 9 hours or footage is on the quiz , he doesnt respond when you reach out overall worst experience ever
Definitely favorite professor by far! I never got the chance to become closer with him, but he definitely seems like the type to help you with anything. He is very lenient with work, and understands if something is wrong. He will always make sure to put YOUR needs first before his. Great guy:)
Just had an online class with him, but it was very enjoyable. Just read, and take the quizzes. Nothing difficult, history is fun.
Professor Maynard is one of the most outstanding educators you'll come across. It is immediately apparent how vast his knowledge is of the subject and as a result, his lectures are fascinating and engaging. He uses a free online textbook and only gives one, ten-question online quiz every week. If you need a history class, TAKE HIM.
VERY NICE PERSON! only gave a 10-question open book/notes quiz that was due every Sunday at 11:59. He would reopen quizzes if you didn't do good on them and offered extra credit throughout the entire course! he is a very wonderful person but his teaching skills could use a bit of work. overall great man and a great class to take if you need it!
Read the syllabus and work through the db posts, quizzes and exams before they are due. Everything was opened at the start of the course, untimed, open book, and he provided the reading material. It was fully online so I taught myself but it was very interesting to me and he provided great feedback to posts. Take your time and enjoy the class!
He was by far the best professor I've always had- very knowledgeable, fair, professional and informative. The only problem I had was that he would avoid me during office hours, so I had to ask my questions during class.
best professor ever. He replies to emails very fast. Clear about homework and any assignments. Really nice guy and will be flexible with you if you communicate so. Take his class if you want to pass!
Prof Maynard is very laid back. He just wants to talk about history and wants his students to be interested and have a convo with him. He will gladly divert the class into an off-topic discussion about current events rather than strictly follow the material. Gives one quiz per week, online, 10 questions taken directly from the textbook.
He posts about 13 quizzes which is all you do during the semester (not including the midterm, final, and one discussion post). Super easy class, super genuine dude. If you have any issues just email him. A lot of the quiz answers can be found in readings online. If you need this class for credit, you can take this one and never have to worry.
Easily one of the best professors I have ever had. I took fully online 1500s. He is very attentive, caring, humble, understanding and is more invested in your success as an individual rather than letters or numbers. A very respectable professor and his ratings accurately reflect that. Textbook was provided free online. Open book quiz once a week
Professor Maynard provides resources for each chapter and quiz, ensuring that students have the materials they need to fully understand the content. If you have any questions or concerns, you can always count on him to get back to you promptly.
I took U.S History to 1877 with Prof. Maynard and he was aswesome!!!
He's a great professor for history if you want to take the class on your own. Everything is self-paced and available when the class opens. The only assignments not immediately available are the midterm and final. I was able to complete the quizzes and writing assignments in the first few weeks of class. Everything is super clear and organized.
Professor Maynard is an easily understood professor. I took his accelerated summer course and was given very light homework. Quizzes were short and simple and he gives good notes to help understand the material. For an accelerated course it did not feel as though I had a ton of work. Definitely reccomend.
Prof. Maynard is an exceptional professor. He was kind and considerate at all times. The amount of work he assigned was reasonable, and the tests made sense but were a little bit difficult. He is understanding of students' situations and needs. The final was difficult, but if you read, you will pass.
Easy enough class, mediocre professor. Graded on over a bunch of multiple-choice quizzes (available ahead of time) and two Blackboard discussions. A very hands-off professor who doesn't grade until the last minute. He provides a lot of good reading material - too much to read as someone taking 4 other courses - but doesn't require you to read it.
Easy class in terms of quizzes are all online and there were only like 3 discussion posts we did. Expect that the professor likes to play devil's advocate during class debates over topics we cover which can be aggravating in the early morning and politics will be brought up as it is a history class.Mandatory attendance but he is pretty lenient tbh.
Lectures are a little boring but this class is so easy. 1 chapter reading per week with a 10 multiple choice question quiz due Sundays. midterm and final were both multiple choice questions on blackboard. very laid back, funny, and kept an open dialogue in his class.
Professor Maynard is so sweet. I took his online western history course over the summer and it was just fantastic! The textbook he provided was literally a google doc so it was free, he answered all emails almost immediately, the quizzes were simple multiple choice and you could find all the answers in the textbook if you read it closely.
The class is simple: read a chapter and take a quiz every week. There are also three 500-word discussion posts—I submitted the first on 9/5, and I'm still without a grade as of 12/1. You'll also be reading two chapters a week in the two weeks before finals. Maynard himself is nice enough; he's just slow with manual grades and poorly organized.
The only time he posted in Blackboard was to welcome us to the class. He didn't reply to my emails or students' questions on Blackboard, and took forever to grade. Sometimes I wondered if he was still even teaching the class. Thankfully, the class was extremely easy. Almost every week, you just read a chapter and take a 10 question quiz.
