He is a good teacher. he grades tough though. the essay subjects are somewhat interesting. he shows a lot of video clips that are usually interesting. sometimes he does make you feel stupid when you get involved in class discussions if you dont have the same opinion as him. but overall good.

Beware. This teacher gives no mercy at all. We had a 3-hour timed essay midterm (this is an online class). I had Blackboard open for not even 15 min, but I accidentally closed it instead of another tab (Mozilla) while I was researching. Msg'd the him right away, sent him the paper two hours later, explained what happened, he wouldn't accept it.
I took the online half semester class for him and thought he was pretty decent. He takes a long time posting assignments and grades - sometimes almost two weeks later from when his proposed date - and frequently does not answer emails. When he does help however, he gives sincere and clear advice to his somewhat challenging essays.
He is an awesome teacher. I found him to be very helpful/ He cares a lot about his students. His class is not easy, but its not hight school anymore. College is suppose to be challenging. I would reccomend students take his class.
I took him for an online class. Very straight-forward teacher. Expects students to do their research and know MLA format (it's easy once you learn it). He's very helpful and provides clear and constructive advice. He respects opinions and will not grade you down for an opposing view. He's a somewhat tough grader but a very nice professor.
I took his online class and I was initially shocked by the work flow, but I thrive on challenges. The selections he assigned for work were extremely engaging and made doing the reading work, as well as the written work that much more fun. I really appreciated this fact,& was disapointed to find that he was not teaching an English102 Online class.
This class is a lot of work; it was the hardest online class I've ever taken. His essays are very abstract and complicated. I was very confused on what he was looking for, even at the end. He is not an easy grader. He is helpful, but sometimes unclear, at least that's how I found this class.
This guy is a ball breaker. I took this class this summer and it was a ton of work. 6 and 7 page essays on boring topics. Tons of tedious homework, and a random quiz thats worth a quarter of your grade. This definitely wasn't an easy A, but it wasn't impossible either.
Run the other way. Taking online and this guy is ridiculous with his workload. Might be ok if you don't have any other classes. Working very hard, will be very lucky to get a B as he is tough. Doesn't always answer emails. Takes a long time to post grades. Gets po'd if he doesn't like your opinion.
Way way too much homework and reading for an online class (or any class). If you are planning on taking more than this class be prepared to spend the majoriity of your time keeping up, good luck. Very nice guy, but expects too much. It almost feels like your being punished for taking the classs online. I would look for another inst. if possible.
Do not take this class. Overloads you with homework and this is no exaggeration. Not clear on what he expects on essays and very boring outdated topics. As far as the grading, it was quick at the beginning but he suddenly fell off and grades came after he promised them. I would discourage anyone from taking this guys class. Very unafair.
In my opinion he was a great teacher. There was a lot of work to be done but all of it really did help us. He plays good movies and documentaries. He was a very interesting teacher. I kept up with the work and had no problems with his class.
Run the other way if you are thinking about the 12 week online class. WAY TOO MUCH WORK! Easy grade on homework if you do the work, tougher grading on essays. Lags on posting grades, not dependable about answering his emails
He's a great teacher. You will enjoy his class if you like watching documentaries and discussing and then writing about them. Just make sure to do your work on time and not slack off.
He is a excellent teacher that uses different methods then what we are used to. He allows constant usage of videos that he picks as resources for your papers. He only makes you write one long 12 page paper but he warns you about that at the start of the class. As long as you know your stuff from eng 60 hes actually a lot of fun.
This professor is a tough grader but I am gifted in reading and writing so getting good grades wasn't impossible. It just took hard work since there are many essays and short answer questions. The questions didn't seem difficult & neither did the essay topics. I disliked his choice of book ReReading America because of cuss-words and sexual content.
No joke! A lot of work. Wrote essays every weeks on chapters and topics that were interesting yet boring. He expects a lot and has no mercy when it comes to homework. Be prepared because he thinks you have no life! Literally!
He is soo helpful and gives you many oppurtunities to boost you grade. There's 4 essay and he allows rewrites. He cares about his students and encourages you to ask and communicate with him as much as possible. Due dates are all on the syllabus that he passes out on the second day of class. If you don't do it because you didn't know it was due then that's your fault. This isn't high school. Overall great helpful teacher. Who knows about online. Lol oh and he has is nipples pierced. HahA
BEST EXPERIENCE EVER! SUPPPPER HELPFULL!! SUPER NICE! Overall a really cool guy, writing essays is the main focus but you will come out being such a better writer. He is by far one of my favorites! And he has the greatest laugh :)
Sorta hard but what can u expect from an english teacher? of course a couple of essays. some were interesting and some were boring as hell. he's okay, seems imtidating at first but you get used to it.
He definitely gives a lot of work, but his teaching style is great. Being able to watch documentaries and write about issues we care about is way better than writing about the typical boring topics. Take him if you enjoy in class discussions and analyzing movies. Highly recommended!(:
He gives lotsa essays, but easy prompts. Do all work and you'll be fine. If you let him know ahead of time you're having trouble coming to class/doing hw he'll let it slide. But he gets angry really easily. Don't piss him off by talking a lot in class / txting / tardiness. He'll throw a b**chfit forsure. Oh, and his nipple rings are a plus. LOL.
I took an online class; the workload was what you would expect for an english class - lots of essays, but not hard. Beware: he never responds to emails or phonecalls and takes literally months to grade anything. He does allow rewrites, which I'm sure is beneficial if you ever get a grade to see if you need a rewrite.
I took Melodia for online Eng 100 and had to drop half way. His workload was a bit much but doable. However I had way too much going on for his homework. Hardly used the book that I spend $100 for and just wrote a bunch of essays. Very hard to get in contact with also.
Although there was a lot of work, he gives you a lot of time to complete it. He also puts all assignments, with the directions up on the first day so you know what and when an assignment is due. VERY helpful. EASY A if you do the work. RENT the book; you use the book just not that much.
Holy Homework! You cannot slack off in this class. Workload is insane. He's not very clear but if you ask a question, he's pretty helpful. Be prepared for TONS of work!
Tough grader & takes forever to grade the essays. He says he'll give the grade 1 week after the due date but the won't happen. More like 3 or 4 weeks. He's not very clear in the online course. I'm selling the 2 required texts books for this class. I bought them brand new. They're in great condition. Email me at 4collegetextbooks AT gmail
Hey you 2013-2014 enrolling students! I'm going to give you my honest opinion. He is a tough grader, but he gives you a chance to retake it if you haven't done well. Easy class if you do all the assignments, but he never responds to you. Email or through discussion.. honey you have to wait 2 weeks.Forever. U want easy B+/A? Take this class. Online
Def didn't seem like an Eng class. Seemed more like a social media class. I still don't understand the point of Eng 100. You'll wait for forever to see a grade. Prob the worst class I've taken. This class is very time consuming, but you won't learn a thing. I seriously would not recommend this class at all.
I took him for ENGL 103 online and got an A..and english/writing is my worst subject. Discussions due every week, midterm and final which had to be 8 paragraphs long WERE NOT timed for my class, the rest of the essays had to be 7 pages long, a couple quizzes, offers extra credit..i don't see what to not like about him. He's more than fair.
The workload was overwhelming with all the reading and writing but what else do you expect it is English. I enjoyed the readings and the essay topics were relevant so it wasn't difficult to write about. The research paper may seem impossible but it's actually easy. Just do it on a topic you are super interested.
I took literature with Melodia, and it was one of the most eye opening classes I've taken. He is a really passionate professor who wants students to care for literature. He doesn't really teach in literature because he wants the students to think outside the box and develop their own ideas. Don't be shy to share ideas in discussions also!
This class really gave me a challenge over the summer! Alot of work, not hard, but get ready to read and analyze. A whole lot of thinking required. He is very hard on grammar mistakes; however, he does point out what you did good also. I recommend everyone to study fallacies before taking this course. Overall, just do your work, and you be fine.
Professor Melodia makes you work for your grade but it was a fun class! This was my first online class ever and he made it easy to follow. If you don't mind working for your grade then this the class to take!
Taking this professor was one of my best decisions in college thus far. I learned how to become a better writer and how to convey my arguments throughly. Prof. Melodia has a way of engaging the whole class in discussions that were worth looking forward to! He even took us to a play that we got EC for. Every topic in this class was very interesting.
I took this online class during my first semester in college. The class itself wasn't too bad, but by the time the semester ended, I couldn't be more relieved. He rarely responds to emails; Of the 8 emails I sent, I received one response.
COMIC BOOKS. Who doesn't want to write essays on those instead of boring crap? I took a Hybrid 12-week course. Essays assigned: Four (5 page), A big group project (6 pages, but 30 pages collectively), One (12 page, research paper). I would recommend taking a longer course, but it wasn't too, too bad. He made me love comic books even more than I do.
Professor Melodia was hard to get ahold of, I would email him questions about my grade and he would never get back to me. He takes forever on the grading as well, I understand teachers can get busy but I never got my grade on a couple of essays until the semester was over. How was I supposed to improve on my essays skills?
Mr Melodia was the worst teacher I have ever! EVER. Sure comic books are easier to read but he didn't teach anything, he is super lazy, doesn't respond back to emails, doesn't grade your essays on time so you completed 3 essays and he still hasn't grade the first so how can you improve on your writing if you do not know what you need to improve on.
I took professor Melodia for english 104. I have to say that he is the worst teacher in every aspect, his essays are super hard, he is never clear on what he actually wants on them, no matter how much effort you put into an assignment it is never enough, for the last week of class he has you do a 6 page essay as a final, also has you do 25 q&a.
For the most part he is an "ok" professor. He takes a while to grade the work. Emailing him was horrible because he took forever to reply. Overall, I regret taking this class because I missed my opportunity in getting an A.
I would not recommend taking this professor online at all. He takes way too long to grade essays in a 8 week course taking 2 weeks to grade essays gives students little to no time to correct or learn from there mistakes. He normally doesn't answer to emails which is odd for a instructor who is teaching a online course.
Took both of his 8-week English online course. Yes, his class is difficult, but it is 16 weeks compressed into 8 weeks. He provides information on blackboard that will help guide you with what he expects from your paper. I felt you had to be a good self-learner to do well. Overall topics were interesting and I felt it was a good learning experience
Every online class requires a lot of homework, but the homework was overwhelming. Make sure if you have a question about a comment made that you actually ask what you did wrong.
I took the Comic Book Hybrid class. It was very interesting, and he really wanted to help everyone improve their writing. It was easy to stay engaged.
I took Engl 103C online for a total of 8 weeks. You will read a lot and answer long questions in the textbook. One 90-minute test on logical fallacies, but other than that all essays and exams are fully at your own pace. Feedback on essays is decent, somewhat predictable and not incredibly insightful. Do your work and you won't be disappointed!
1) I understand why student peers retake this professors classes and excel. 2) Excellent lectures that are presenting to critical thinking issues of todays times 3) Practical, interesting homework assignments. 4) See improvement in english writing skills, persuasive argument styles 5)Instructor works as hard as entire classroom and motivation x 10
I took Prof Melodia hybrid class on comic books and I loved it! I have always struggled with English for some reason, but he made it so fun and made me actually want to take more English classes! He is a great professor easy to talk to and is honest. Gives you confidence to express your opinion on the discussions.
Overall this class requires a lot of reading and writing but Professor Melodia gives really good feedback on your paper which helped me improve in my writing. I truly enjoyed this online class. Simply do all your work thourougly and participant in disccussion board and you can pass with no problem
I took two english accelerated online classes from him and both were pretty good. it averaged out to almost two essays a week but they're definitely doable and after awhile it becomes easier. He gives good feedback on your papers which helps you out on the next paper. He's very detailed on what he wants. If you can do that, you can pass no problem
slow or not responsive to emails which is the only way to communicate with him outside Canvas. He grades hard to the 4 essays including midterm and final. He does provide feedbacks on essays but it doesn't really help because by the time he grades the essay you already have to turn in the next essay. He does offer resubmit opportunity for essay HW.
Melodia is a great professor. His class was challenging but rewarding. If you're not happy with your final grade, then you probably didn't try hard enough.
I took Professor Melodia for English 100 online and it was pretty straight forward a lot of papers, but I was able to get an A. I took him again this spring for English 102C, an 8 week course. A paper every week and 4 unit exams which are all written assignments. 1 weekly discussion. Answers emails and is very understanding. Has given me extensions
stories to read are amazing, BUT he doesnt respond to emails and takes a long time to grade papers. I was onto the third paper not knowing yet what I did right or wrong on the first two. Plus he is a tough grader. I barely got a B and I was constantly under stress not knowing answers to key questions I had and for the most part working blindly.
Took an 8 week class w/ him & I gotta say it was challenging. Tons of readings, discussions & essays but he gives good feedbacks on how to improve ur writings better. He is a VERY tough grader as well. Almost all of my papers, I got an B-C and 2 A's but for other english professor they grade my writing as an A lol so just keep that in mind.
Get ready to watch a lot of films, he provides links for the movies he can find for free. Weekly discussions, weekly film quizzes, scene analysis short papers, 2 major essays, 2 extra cred opportunities, and 1 final exam.
Cool class, you get to watch/learn about good films, but sometimes more than one film a week bc homework overlaps with major essays (midterm and finals). The weekly workload is a film, scene analysis, discussion/replies, film and reading quiz, which is pretty tough when you have other classes. He's not flexible, no late work and random due dates.
It was an 8-week online course, so I expected it to be a lot. And it is BUT this professor is a very harsh grader and assigns a lot. 25pts discussions every week and homework or essay. He does give feedback on essays but takes forever to grade. And some of his feedback was confusing, as if he was speaking in riddles.
Struggling to keep up with the complexity of a college level class, I found myself often feeling lost and confused. Working to try and make sense of it all, I went to my professor for help. Unfortunately, his feedback was often just as confusing as the class material itself, leaving me feeling as if I had nowhere to turn.
Professor Melodia is a great teacher. I took him for multiple classes. His Critical Reasoning and Writing class was a lot of reading and homework, but I learned a lot. Especially in terms of looking at things from a more objective viewpoint and thinking outside of the box, it was a great class.
I personally enjoyed taking this class, the assignments were simple, you can go at your own pace, and the "reading" he makes you do is comic books with a mix of the textbook. I'm not a fan of reading books with so many words because I tend to forget what I have read before, so this actually helped! He might not be for everyone, but give it a shot.
If you are looking for a challenge, take a class with this guy. He seems like a nice person but he definitely makes you work hard for that grade. One thing about him is he gives good feedback and will read every sentence of your work. I enjoyed the films but those assignments, quizzes and discussion every week ruined my social life for a semester.
Professor Melodia is so passionate and caring with his selection of works for the class, his feedback is clear and shows he's willing to learn new things and adapt his way of teaching. Although, every week consists of generally an essay and discussion and possibly another assignment. He's very analytic about your papers, but understanding.
Textbook provides ample support for assignments - use it! We read four (4) graphic novels, they were really fun to read. My Art history class helped me in this one, as art analysis skills are needed to connect/ interpret the art in your essays. Professor is responsive and supportive, ask for help if you need it and he will support you.
Do not procrastinate with this professor. He grades tough and gives lots of homework. The first week I got like 5 different articles and over 40 questions plus a very in depth discussion. There are many papers throughout including a timed midterm. He lays out what he wants clearly, but if you are not a strong writer and want an A than avoid him
First things first, a very picky grader. I went from getting A's in previous writing classes to being borderline C the whole semester. It's a very fast moving class and you have to be on your feet all semester long. It's a very time consuming class with heavy assignments and lots of reading.
I recommend taking this course, if you don't procrastinate a lot and is willing to put in some time everyday to do the assignments before the due dates, rather than cramming it all last second. If you took AP Lang or Lit during high school, this course should be similar to those classes, as its an essay-based course.
Communication is impossible with this professor, I've emailed him before on specification for essays and he replies with lazily written replies. For example, "Hi Mr. Melodia, you say the essay can be short but how short should be exactly?" and his reply was "The essay can just be short, make sure you complete it by the due date. (not exaggeration)
The professor is somewhat difficult to work with especially when communicating for feedback or asking questions. When the professor does give clear instructions, the homework isn't difficult, and it is part of the essays that are also given. The rubric/requirements for said essays are not very specific too. If you took ap lang or lit you'll be fine
Professor Melodia's class is fast-paced and demanding, with weekly discussions (25 Pts), heavy reading (50-60 Pts), and strict grading. Essays are tough to score perfectly, but his feedback allows for improvement/revisions. The comic book final is a nice touch, but beware of his strict AI policy. With effort, the course is manageable if you try.
In a 8 week course, I had to write 10 essays which were all pretty hard. If you aren't a procrastinator, this is a good class to take, as his grading criteria and feedbacks are really good. I just suck at writing, so I got a B, however its a very intense course if you take the 8 week online course.
This is one of the most rewarding classes you can take if you are willing to put in the work. It's a good idea to study for his movie and reading quizzes from the beginning of the semester and stay on top of your work. Prof. Melodia is a great teacher and is clearly passionate about films, and you might adopt a newfound interest for them as well!
I do not recommend this professor. He has poor communication skills, doesn't respond to emails, and sends outdated announcements, which creates confusion. He even extended due date and then denied it,causing student problems, talks about controversial topics that affect many people, and if he doesn't like your opinion, he looks at you indifferently.
does not reply to emails/messages. if you want someone who can actually communicate with you, don't take this professors courses.
Academic hero of the century!
Every second spent on this class has been the worst. It's true, he hardly ever returns your emails.
He didn't teach a thing.
This professor gives SO many essays, I was not a fan of the topics he used as well. Good class discussions, and he was pretty nice. Overall, just be aware that you'll be writing a 4-6 page essay every week, and he doesn't usually respond to emails.
The entire time I've been in class with the teacher has been the most unclear and stressful time I've ever had with a teacher I don't recommend him in the slightest if you aren't ready for 4-6 page essays weekly due at 10am Monday and discussion boards due Thursdays with 350 words and 150 to 2 people. AVOID THIS TEACHER IF YOU CAN!!!!
He gives good feedback on essays, however he's such a hard grader. He also never replied to my emails, and if he did it would take weeks. I also had an essay once a week as well as essay based discussion bored every week. I wouldn't recommend him. Work load is crazy heavy, but I did take a fast paced class so it makes sense.
This class is unnecessarily difficult, from the weekly 6 page essays to the due dates always being in the morning this class is so stressful and you will be upset looking at your canvas seeing another terrible paper get put up. Never replies to email, and having very vague instructions. This class is very stressful and pretty unrewarding.
My biggest issue with Melodia was his grading- it gave me whiplash. First of all, there's no rubric so you have no idea what he's looking for, and then we will take points off for the most inane things. When comparing grades and feedback with peers, we had the same feedback and yet very different final grades. And we had a full essay every week.
Honestly the worst professor I have ever had. So many assignments, doesn't respond to emails, terrible grader.
Prof. Melodia ia a great teacher! you can tell he really loves what he does and is really good at explaining things. He grades reasonably, he's easily accessible outside of class, and he replies to emails. I absolutely recommend this class, especially if you like film. I would absolutely take his classes again! Highly recommend!!!
