he is a great teacher. his tests come right from his notes and he trys to help as much as he can. if you like bio this is the prof to take it with, Dr.joe is awesome
Dr. Joe is very helpful. You should get the textbook because he refers to alot of figures in the book. Tests are based on notes. Lab quizzes are based on the manual. Take the notes, rewrite them, and record the lectures. With all that, you should be fine if you study. He's always available for help. Very funny! He makes the class interesting.
Dr. Joe is a good Prof. He is fair with his tests. Just study ALL his notes early and often and you should do well. He could be more involved in lab However & he is a bit negative at times..he says some things that make you feel as if your going to fail his class and never get anywhere. Some may call it nagging..I call it unnecessary negativity.
HE is helpful
I had Dr. Jo for Nutritian and I liked the dynamics of his class so I took him for Path Micro and I'm so glad I did. He is an awesome teacher #1! He loves to teach and makes the info. very interesting. I wish I needed more science just so I could take him again. His test ?'s require understanding the material, but so worth it. He's cool.
Dr.Joe is one of the best teachers I've ever had. He is always available to answer questions. His lectures are funny and make class enjoyable. The lecture exam is from your notes and the lab exam is from the lab manual. Studying is required for this class! If you keep up with the material the class is isn't that bad. Take him for Pathogenic Micro.
Great Professor, what makes him great is that he enjoys teaching the material and is more enthusiastic with his lectures. The test are based on his notes, which means the text isn't all that important, and lab test were set up the same as you had to looked at during lab time. I would recommend him to anyone who needs to take this class.
Very good prof. Very helpful and he really knows his stuff.
Very good at explaining the information... lecture exams are easy and right for the notes the book is rarely used! lab exams are also pretty easy... overall very good class!
Dr. Joe is awesome. He is one of my #1 instructors at MCCC. Tests are strictly on his notes. I used a recorder. The notes and recorder helped me understand the subject better. He references the book here and there. You could even share a book with a close friend. Dr. Joe makes the subject interesting with funny stories.
Dr. Joe is a great professor! I had him for BIO 1000 and I ended up with a 95 in the class, and I didn't find it very difficult. His tests are straight from the notes and he is willing to help you anyway he can. The book isn't really necessary unless you want a clearer understanding. Take him if you can!
This class is not an easy A unless you are a genius and you will have to work and try hard. He gives you notes and you must pay attention and go to class in order to pass The material is hard and there is a lot at times but he is a nice teacher willing to help anyone with Qs! Also funny but can be mean at times. Never know when you have a pop quiz
Okay this class was by far my favorite. NEVER even bought the text book and passed with an A- just from studying from his notes and the lab manual. He's very clear and fun and makes sense. Taking him again for Biotech this semester.
real great professor, lots of work to do well in the class but if you put in the time you will do great. I never had a real intrest in biol until this class!
Dr. Joe enjoys teaching and all his test are based on his lectures and not on the book. It is not necessary to buy the book for his class. His class is tough but if you study and pay attention in class you can get an A. He encourages students to ask for help if they need it. I will be taking him again for Biotech and Path. Bio.
I would not take this professor again. Our class averages were VERY low and he blamed it on the students. I was a straight A student (even in A&P) until Dr Joe's class. If you ask him questions (even in private) about the material, he will mock you to the entire class. He is has a huge ego and be-littles students. Stay away from his class!
Very Hard. He knows what he is talking about but everything on the notes you better know.
good teacher and know his stuff. will take him again
Not easy to talk to, exams are extremely hard. I would never take his class again
Good professor and fair. He puts his expectations for you out on the first day. There is no easy ride in any section of Biology, take the class from someone who teaches the material well like Dr. Joe.
Dr. Joe teaches a tough class, but he teaches it with your best interest in mind. He demands a lot & does not encourage "memorization", he wants you to LEARN. I am an RN from MCC and credit Dr. Joe for my complete understanding of the world of pathogenic microbiology. Staph Aureus will become a regular part of your life as a RN! THANKS JOE!
Great teacher
Dr. Joe is phenomenal! Hates memorization, his material sticks because he's always referring back to day one, he's very easy to talk to, very motivating, has an awesome sense of humor so the class is never dry (even though some material may be). I would HIGHLY recommend him for micro! Wish he taught nursing classes...
Dr joe is awesome . I am in his class right now and I love it. Material isnt easy but if you keep up its easier to understand. Hes funny and always answers questions i have.
Dr. Joe is an amazing teacher, and he was so helpful throughout the class. He gets students involved, asks questions and is very fair.Gives helpful outlines for notes without doing it all for you. I will be going out of my way to take his classes again.
Dr. Joe is awesome!! He is very, very knowledgeable and knows what he's talking about..He is also funny, there was never a dull moment in his class! Exams are difficult if you don't keep up or try to connect between concepts. Definitely one of the best professors I've had :)
Not recommended! His tests are meant to trick you. He even points the trick questions out after the test saying "u should have read each questions carefully!!" ............ By far the worst professor I've had and worst tests I have taken and I am not one who EVER complains about tests/professors. Teaches great however his tests are ridiculous.
GREAT professor! Explains the material throughly & offers extra help outside of class. Tests are right off the notes. You have no reason to do poorly if you study regularly, you cannot cram nor memorize. i recommend a tape-recorder too. began the course with a C- then started recording the lectures...ended up passing with a B. Highly recommend!
First off I would like to say if you are looking for a class to blow off and never study then do not take his class. He's very clear on what his expectations are. If you want a good grade you have to study. Period. His class consists of taking notes the entire lecture, and is open to any questions. I recommend him. Tests aren't hard if you study!
I love Dr. Joe :)! His exams are STRAIGHT from the notes, so take good notes and write everything down that he does. He explains things so easy and makes things clear. Also, he repeats stuff from previous days so not only it can stick in your head but also as a symbol that it will be important for the upcoming exam. i will take him for MicroBio!
Excellent professor...can be a bit tricky on exams at times so make sure you read the questions. Very helpful...seems intimidating but he's really nice. Keep up on the material. I would recommend him for sure.
Dr. Joe was the best professor I've ever had!!! So friendly and always willing to help you out. Exams are tough, but it's completely based off of lecture. Pay attention and go to class you'll get the grade you want! :) Dr. Joe was AWESOME and I'm glad to take another class with him this semester :):)
He is a great teacher and very knowledgeable, but he is really mean. When students go out of their way to answer questions, and they're wrong he is not nice about it. Then he gets upset at us when we don't answer questions! If you miss one day he pretty much hates you. Good teacher but not the best person.
I dont know how his rating is so high... The class itself isnt too hard and i have an A but Dr. Joe himself is the problem, he is so rude when you ask him questions. I asked him a question and he mad a scene about embarrassing me in front of the class for asking him a question. I honestly wouldn't recommend taking his class!
Dr. Joe was the best professor I ever had in my college life. His exams are literally his notes. And his notes were very clear and straight forward of what you needed to learn. I recommend him to every one but you NEED to study. I did almost everyday for an hour or so and received an A in the class.
Fantastic professor! Biology is never easy because it covers the basics of life like cells and taxonomy. My favorite was the anatomy portion. If you want a good grade you MUST GO TO CLASS AND TAKE NOTES. Study for at least 5 hours a week and you'll pass. His examples are great and he actually cares for you to do well.
Dr. Joe was honestly one of the best professors I could have ever had. I was usually an average Biology student, but Dr. Joe is very good at making the material understandable. When you ask a question he makes you come up with the answer which is more beneficial then you would think. His exams are based off his lectures. Study for the exams!
Very good teacher, he gives all the needed information, be warned, if you cram studying you fail
THE worst!!!!
I had high expectations for him because of the reviews on here. I was not disappointed. Dr. Joe was always willing to answer my questions and he really does care about your grade, even if he might not seem like he does. Take good notes and you'll ace the test! Studying is required! Especially for genetics (My favorite)
Dr. Joe was an amazing teacher. This class wasn't his usual subject, but he did a very good job teaching it. You have to attend class. All his questions are from his lecture notes. You do not need the book, but I bought mine for the iProfile (which you need). I did not open my book once, and I received A's on everything. Great professor!
This teacher is terrible i would recommend staying home and chilling on the toilet for 4 hours rather than go to his lectures and labs. Dont ask him questions, dont participate in lecture questions and please dont ever take his class. If your coming straight out of high school i do not recommend him because he will make you hate college.
I honestly have alot to say and 350 character wont do it but he has confusing tests, he sucks at giving out answers, he will mock you for simple questions. He hates being asked questions and will ask you questions during lab for him to prove you wrong and mock you infront of everybody, this is from my personal experience. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!
I am a straight A student and took his class over the spring semester and ended up having to drop the class because I was on the verge of failing. Tests are extremely hard. Constantly scolds the class. Teacher was rude and always made you feel like you would not pass his class. I would strongly recommend to avoid his class at all times.
He is a great Biology professor, who knows his stuff. I enjoyed his lectures. All I needed to study are his notes. Fair Tests and quizzes. Excellent over all. I DO STRONGLY RECOMMEND HIM +
probably be better off taking someone with a lower score a 4.2 is definitely inflated, He's a pr ic kly s o b, does have a tendency to call people out without naming names, his exams are very tough, only the best of the best bio students should take him
Dr Joe was a great professor. he set very clear expectations. he gives you his set of notes and that is all thats on the exams. he dumbs things down and gives great examples to help you understand and he is really helpful. honestly, biology is always a tough subject especially for nonmajors, this isnt a typical blow off class. study and work hard
Before taking this class I had the fear of god instilled in me for Dr. Joe, but now I feel that there were just terrible students. If you study the material and actually learn it, not just memorize the words he tells you, you'll pass. Come to every class, period. I truly enjoyed this class, but you have to be ready to study. Otherwise don't bother.
Dr. Joe isn't easy but he is a good teacher. If you don't want to put in the effort then don't expect to pass. I haven't been in a classroom in 10 years I worked full time and had another class and got a B+ in a 6 wk course. He tells you what he expects from you and if you need help he will help. If you want to be coddled go elsewhere.
Dr Joe is a good professor, but his class is no easy A. Exams come from his noteslectures. Be sure to look at the figures he discusses in the book, they help tremendously! Tests can be rough, but if you keep up you will do fine. Material from the first exam is most important to understand!
Dr. Joe is such an underrated professor. I had the best experience in his class and highly recommend taking him!! His tests are straight from his notes and the notes are very clear and easy to understand. Biology is hard no matter who you have, but Dr. Joe made it so much easier to understand!
Can be very annoying, he constantly tells the class they won't pass and makes you feel dumb for asking questions. But overall good bio teacher, his tests are exactly from his notes and he gives good lectures. The class is very passable aslong as you study and pay attention in lab.
Dr. Joe is a wonderful teacher. It isn't an easy A, he makes you work for your grade, but in a good way. His lecture's are logical and easy to follow. As long as you keep up with lecture and study, there is no reason to fail the class. His tests come straight from his lecture notes that are printed for you and well explained.
Dr. Joe is a wonderful professor. This was the first biology class I had taken since freshman year of high school. All his exams come straight from the notes. To be honest, the class is not easy. You must work for your grade but it is worth at the end. Take time out and be sure to study. Very helpful, wants all of his students to pass. I enjoyed it
this is a college class, don't expect him to baby you. study hard and you will do well. He works hard to help you, explain things, owe him the respect and study. he has been a teacher for a long time and i appreciated his level of knowledge. i would take his class again. You must use the book.
He doesn't help you when you ask for help. He doesn't give out study guides for tests. Sometimes he says "All I do is put in grades and you guys do all the work". He isn't a very good teacher at all. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Strt A student, never studied so hard EVER!! I Diligence did not pay off. Unit 1 shld be 1 entire semester. Dr Joe essay on how much Ive learned would be a more accurate measure than your tests which are vague and frankly pedantic. Its sad the only students doing well have science degrees or backgrounds. Its an INTRO class and you could do better
The worst teacher happened in the history of teaching.
One of the most amazing professors at MCC. I loved his lectures and I really learned a lot from him. This class takes a lot of work but all bio classes are not easy. He is very funny and interesting and helpful too. Don't buy the book!!!
I really enjoyed this class! The tests were lecture based so I recorded each lecture and replayed them while I worked, drove, etc. I learned a lot and it will for sure prepare you for Nursing.
Dr. Joe is amazing! He is most certainly difficult but I think that is more because any biology class is tough. He wants you to thoroughly understand the material. Miss a lecture and you definitely will not do well on the exam. He is always willing to answer questions and give you time during office hours. Put in hard work and you will do well.
Very nice guy... The tests are ridiculously hard and love to mess with you. Regardless how much you study... every test average for my semester was below 60%... stay FAR FAR AWAY
Out of all the professors I've had at my home university and at MCC as a guest student, Dr Joe is by far the best! He designs the class so that every student is capable of doing well as long as they put in the work that is expected. The class isn't easy but it is an introductory class.. it is meant to weed out those unfit for healthcare careers.
I can't stress enough what an excellent professor he is. He knows what he's talking about. The class is not easy if you're look for an easy A or B. Lectures are AMAZING. If you are a student that studies and looking to put the time and effort. I recommend you this professor. Miss his lectures
MILITARY/VETERAN FRIENDLY. Fantastic professor. Dr. Joe's lectures are beyond great and he is willing to help out on lecture and lab material. In lab, he dives right in with students to actually show them the matter of the subject. He has a good sense of humor and he will tell you like it is. If you want to learn biology, take Dr. Joe.
Worst teacher ever. Don't take his class. His tests are hard, his lectures are horrible. He doesn't help when you ask for help. I had to drop his class cause he's a horrible teacher.
Lectures heavy, doesn't offer extra credit, expects you to know the material very well. Can be very nice, just has no teaching skills. After taking this class i reconsidered my profession.
It's true what they say about Dr. Joe being a connector. He may discuss something in chapter 3 but may not go into detail until chapter 7. If you want a good grade, you will have to WORK for it. Don't need the book but you need to know the "cartoons" for each chapter. Keep up with the notes, record the lectures, and if he repeats it, take note.
The class is a lot of studying but overall Dr. Joe was a really great teacher, though it's really easy to fail his class. If you actually put work into it, you will pass with an A... and he will remind you every day to not wait until the last second to study for the exam. The book can be useful if you don't understand something, but it's not needed
Grading expectations are way too high
Like your GPA? DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
Only graded on random pop quizzes and 8 exams. None are dropped. Multiple choice... 6 possible answers per multiple choice question. Stay far away from this teacher.
Absolutely the worst science teacher I've ever had. STAY FAR AWAY
Absolute worst teacher. Constantly scolds class for little mistakes in lab. When he lectures, he writes some notes on the board but that's about it. Exams are based off lectures with 6 possible answers to confuse you. He also says that that if some students were his nurse, he would request another. Also, be prepared to hear "dog gon." STAY FAR AWAY
To my fellow nursing students, DO NOT take this professor. He will constantly say if you can't do this or know this you are not fit for any healthcare career. This was my first biology class, and I asked him questions in the lab thinking he was going to help me. Instead, he called me out in front of the whole class. Toward the end, I gave up.
One of the best professors I have had at MCC! All test comes straight from lecture so if you skip lecture it will be hard to pass. Very easy going, laid back and hilarious. Made coming to class very enjoyable! If you have the opportunity to take Dr. Joe for any class don't pass it up. You won't regret it!
Test were unbelievably hard. He gave 6 possible answers. I've seen on reviews before taking this class that if you study, you will do well. Not true. I studied for hours a day and barely passed the classes and I HAD 3.5+ GPA. In order to understand 95% of his lectures, you need biology and chemistry background, other than that he assumes you know
He was a great teacher if you have no life and this is the only class you have to study for but being a full time student his class is difficult. If this is one of your first semesters in college I highly do not recommend. Also, if you do not have a science or critical thinking background, this class will be very difficult for you. Nice guy though.
he is kinda funny but also disrespectful.
Dr. Joe teaches and grade this class at a university level. He is concise and easy to understand if you read ahead and make an effort to study. I had him as retake after failing Bio the first time I had it. He is willing to answer questions before class and during office hours., if you put in the effort you will get the grade.
Dr. Joe truly made me work for my grade! Not only is the class very lecture heavy but if you do not read, he makes you feel very behind, Although he is very hard on the class, overall, he cares about his students success, and he really helps out. You just have to be proactive, Material is hard, but study hard and be ahead of it and you'll be okay.
Dr. Joe is like a coach. He wants you to do well and be proactive. This class is taught at a university level and the exams come directly from lecture, skipping class isn't a good idea. He might come off as tough but he cares about his students' success and reminds the class often to come and see him if they need extra help.
The bomb. Ive never like anything science, Dr. Joe killed it. I took his summer class in 2016 and he actually really cares whether or not you do good. A+ to him.
He is the worst teacher you can ever take, for the lab he writes what you need to do. If you had any question about anything he gets really mad, and he will think you did not study, but his directions are the worst. His lectures are very heavy!!!
Dr. Joe makes you work for your grade. At times, I wish I wouldn't of taken him, but when I look back at it, he's not trying to make it tough. He wants you to understand the material because if you don't study, you can really fall behind. Other Biology 1000 professors make you learn so much other material whereas Dr. Joe, only makes you know basics
Dr. Joe is one of the best professor that i had at macomb. He is very respectful and clear to the point of what he expects from you. Just study your notes and do not wait until last minute and you will for sure get an A. The exams are exactly like the notes too. He gives good feedbacks and the lectures make sense.
I've enjoyed the lectures and labs. Even though this class has caused some stress, ive learned so much from it. Dr. Joe is always there when you need help. He stressed the fact that you CANNOT wait until the last minute to study and it's he truth. He only wants the best for his students and helps you do so.
One of the best professors I've had at MCC. He is clear on what is expected of each student, and as long as you care and put in work you will pass. This class requires studying a lot every week, but no one should expect less out of a science class. Has office hours, and wants students to go see him. Generous with grading.
You have 8 exams, 4 lecture and 4 lab exams. As long as you pay attention and word hard youll pass. He does ask questions and expect answers.
I really enjoyed the way he taught the subjects (had him for bio 1000 and 2730).PROBLEM: he crammed in the last UNIT (5 chapters) into the last 2 weeks of the semester (so he lectured on exam week!) because of snow days. How's that our fault? The exam was easier than usual but stressed me! In those 2 weeks we had 1 exam,1 quiz,2 popquizzes, 1 final
The textbook is not needed but pop quiz questions are from the textbook images. He's a great professor and willing to help you understand the material better if you ask.
Dr. Joe is a connector first and foremost. He could be extremely condescending if we didn't understand something or clearly make a connection right away, even though it was a summer class and a cram session (he admitted this). Overall, a great lecturer, but gives out crazy exam questions that will make you want to pull your hair out.
Dr joe was extremely tough at the start of the semester. He was condescending and blunt. ***That being said*** I feel like as the semester progressed he lightened up a TON. He was cracking jokes and it honestly became fun. He is so passionate about student success. As long as youre trying, hell help you out.
He's a good teacher but he is pretty hard to work with. If you work hard you will get a high grade he is fair. If you're looking for an easy teacher its not him. He's big on respect and is very picky with students performances.
Dr. Joe is great at explaining topics. His lectures are very clear and he goes slow enough where students can keep up, but not too slow. Do NOT ask him questions or answer any of his during class. He makes you feel dumb and says that you are going to fail. He is very blunt. Overall, if you can deal with his personality he is a great teacher.
Very good professor! Actually left this class with a lot of knowledge I will remember! Makes you work for your grade but always willing to help! Gives out two pop quizzes on the last lecture exam! You need to keep up and study! Tests are challenging and tricky! But if you STUDY and work hard an A is possible!!
Out of all the BIO professors I've had at MCC he is my favorite. His lectures are amazing and does a great job at explaining difficult topics. He is extremely passionate about being a professor. I thought I was going to end the class with a lower grade but I worked really hard to get a B. Get ready to work !
Doctor Joe really makes you work for your grade. He cares about his students, gives you good notes, and helps you understand the tough material by answering all the questions you might have. As long as you study the notes every day and dont procrastinate youll do good in his class. This is not a good class for you if youre a procrastinator.
-Pros- 1- I guess it's a good professor if you really need a bio class and you are ready to spend 5 to 8 hours a day of studying -Cons- 1- Tough grader 2- 100 question exams 3- Multiple choice, but very tricky 4- No extra credit 5- Many questions aren't covered in the lecture, you must study and prepare for questions never heard of in the lecture
Bio is hard. I believe he is an excellent biologist, he knows what he is doing, but I don't believe he was meant to teach it. He was pretty rude to his students, he would make fun of my classmates and tell us our whole class would fail. Seemed annoyed by me when I would stay to ask questions. Always said he would give pop quizzes, but never did.
Not a person fit for teaching. Rude, critical when asked a question and overall guilts/shames u for not knowing something. Not willing to help and makes the class way harder Than it needs to be. Be prepared to study like you're in med school and cry everyday. Tough grader is an understatement. In this class ur on ur own. Save ur time and tears
You NEED the textbook to understand his materials, lecture notes are not enough. Exams include deep thinking and concepts that go beyond basic notes he gives. Tough professor. 4 lecture and lab exams. Worst professor and does not teach, simply talks and expects everyone to know everything. Not willing to help. Save your time and tears please
Biology is hard, so the bad reviews are because people did not study. Dr. Joe has been my best science professor yet. 4 lecture exams and 4 lab exams that are difficult. Study his lecture notes an hour a day. While you study the notes use the diagrams in the book to guide you. I promise you doing that for an hour every day will get you an A.
This professor is phenomenal. I took his class over the summer, which is an 8 week class. We had lecture online and lab in-person. This exams were kinda hard but if you know the material it is fine. The labs were really fun and I learned a lot. He would stay after class and answer my questions. Not a lot of homework. I got to work at my own pace.
Dr. Joe is one of my favorite professors ever. His lecture and lab exams are straightforward and he gives guided notes for the lectures. He explains things very well and always reminds you what information is essential. I would 100% take Dr. Joe again and I wish he could teach all of my future biology courses.
Dr. Joe was an amazing professor. He makes it very clear how much studying you need to do to stay on top of his course. He is a blunt but yet very nice guy, he breaks down lectures so its very easy to understand. If you arent willing to put effort in outside of the class you will fail as his exams, as they are difficult but easy if you study.
Dr. Joe is a very good teacher who is very chill. He was absolutely right when he said "keep up". Many in my class did not like him, but I found him very funny, and a really good teacher. Came up with very good examples and studying tips to remember the material. I would take his class again for sure. It just sucked that the course was difficult.
Dr. Joe was great! I really enjoyed his lectures and labs. He explained things perfectly making his lectures easy to retain. He was always willing to help his students with pointers on how to study. He gave us extra credit and amazing lecture notes to follow. The class was not easy and you do have to put in the work in order to pass.
Professor Joseph is very nice and super helpful when wanting to go over something that doesnt make sense. I would definitely recommend, but this class is very lecture heavy. Online the tests were 100 questions and make sure to know all of the lab information if taking online. The lab exams in my opinion were more difficult when taking online.
Pay attention to lectures and do the labs as assigned and you will receive a good grade. He is a very good professor but he can be a little bit condescending when people ask questions, people almost never get a straight answer but he explains things if needed. Lab exams are timed which is rough but as far as i can tell he is easier.
Dr. Joe has been my favorite professor by far! Science classes will always be harder and more work so as long as you stay on top of studying in his classes you'll be more than okay. I highly recommend recording lectures and studying chapters the day you learn them to help any stress that may come during exams. There's 4 lec. exams and 4 lab exams.
Dr. Joe is a great professor! The course is a bit difficult, but if you pay attention and TAKE NOTES you'll do well. Try not to miss a class or lab because if you miss one, I can ensure you it will be so much more difficult. The lecture notes are posted online, but they help so much more if you're at lecture. He's always offering help too!
The BEST professor at Macomb. His lectures are great and go with your exams. He also gives homework with unlimited try's so you can get 100%. He teaches so well that if you do bad, you feel like you've let him down. He cares so much for his students. Take Dr. Joe for any science course, you won't regret it! His exams are easy if you keep up.
Dr. Joe is a very great professor! He covers all material that will be on exams and the lab exams. If you put in the work and go over the material provided you will finish the course with a high grade. Disregard the reviews that say he gives pop quizzes. Overall great professor and would recommend!
VERY good. Lecture and test heavy, but if you keep up you are golden. There are practice quizzes that give you questions that are on lecture! Lecture exams are easy if you study and understand his lecture material. Very funny guy, and truly cares about his students excelling in his class. Make sure to do HW assignments because they are beneficial!
Great teacher, the lectures are straightforward and tests are easy if you pay attention and study a little bit.
Joseph Michalewicz is a wonderful professor. He does not force participation and does not force you to stay the whole time. His class definitely takes a great deal of time. To make the class easier for you, you need to study. The test is only over information you learned in his lectures. The test is mainly compression of his lecture notes.
Professor Joe was overall a very caring person and really wanted us to succeed in his class. His lectures are lecture heavy but he explains them very well. It is a lot of studying and took up a lot of my time but staying caught up helps a lot, even learning or going over the lectures and bio lab beforehand will help. Overall he was a great teacher.
Dr Joe is amazing. Very lecture heavy. He will not only teach you lessons in biology, but the class is also a lesson in studying. Put the time and effort in, talk to your classmates, and you'll do just fine! :-D
By far one of the worst classes I have ever taken. He just reads off of a handout the whole lecture and spends half the time talking in lab, leaving no time to get stuff done. He expects you to know everything and if you answer something wrong or not at all, he makes you feel stupid and bad about yourself and threatens pop quizzes to scare students
This is the best professor I have ever had. I very highly recommend taking this class with him. The class itself is tough however he gives you the exact information that will be on the exams as well as practices quizzes (not for points) and explains them throughout the lecture. He genuinely wants every one of his students to pass this class.
Dr. Joe is good. Study the packets before each exam. Look through lab manual. You will do good. He has jokes for days!! my group loved him fr. His grading is mostly exam based but he really tries to help people figure out study methods if you just go to him and ask. Thanks Dr. Joe!! U will be remembered as the BIO GOAT.
Great professor and a caring person. LECTURE HEAVY do not skip class! Spend about 6 to 8 hours a week reading through the material. Lecture/lab questions come right out of the lecture/lab material and exercises done in lab. He gives generous extra credit near the end of the semester. He is very knowledgeable and is always available to ask for help.
Always willing to help with materials you don't understand. The lecture is heavy but does not ramble on about useless things. Very respectable, just study and put the time in and you will do fine!
Very much a sink-or-swim type of guy, he's a bit strict but fair. His lectures always have a few jokes in them, and he's full of stories. He gives study tips, has one-on-one tutoring during his office hours, and overall just wants to actually help students learn about the subject he's passionate about.
I feel so lucky to have had Dr. Joe as my professor. He doesn't ramble on, he explains everyhting in detail, and encourages students to ask questions and meet him during office hours. He is an educated man and I respect him so much. That being said, this is a heavy class and you won't succeed without studying. Good luck :)
would most definitely take Dr. Joe again
Dr. Joe is very well educated and teaches the course. He is really funny and cares about his students. He is accessible and is willing to help at any time, even full lectures if you need it. There is also extra credit and easy homework. Definitely would recommend if you need a general science class or starting something in health.
He is a very good professor. If you just come to lectures and use the help he gives you, then you will do good. Unfortunately,I just got lazy but even though i would score passing grades just from coming to lectures and remembering the analogies he uses. He will make you laugh at least once every lecture, even if you aren't feeling your best.
I like the class. Textbook for this class, do not buy it he will give you a packet. Study the packets, and you will be fine all the test questions will be from the packet. He always encourages people to ask questions he offers extra credit by the end of the semester for the last 2 lecture tests. STUDY THE PACKET FOR THE LECTURE YOU WILL DO FINE.
Professor Joe is a caring instructor who makes lecture-heavy classes manageable. Staying on top of the material and utilizing resources like unstuck ai can help you excel. Attendance is a must, but the tests focus on lecture content.
Dr. Joe happened to be my first college professor. Initially, I was a little nervous because of other comments saying he was lecture heavy and all but he made the class so easy to understand and was always willing to answer any questions to clear up confusion. His exams were straight from the lecture outlines he gave. I would def recommend him!
One of my favorite courses ever because of the professor! He genuinely cares about his students and their performance. He "nags" you to stay on track and not to fall behind, for your sake. I advise you to review the lecture material after the class to stay on track. Tests are based on lecture notes; it's an easy class if you don't fall behind!
Dr. Joe was easily the best prof I've had at mcc. Anyone who says otherwise is a slacker and someone who may not be interested in bio or science in general. Pay attention, study several times a week, and participate in lectures.
Yells at students to get help but refuses to actually help. Screams all lecture that we need to ask questions if confused and then gets angry if you ask questions during lab. Take any other class if looking for lab credit!
excellent teacher and great lessons. I wish he taught pathogenic micrbio, but appearently he doesnt. I had a heavy bio background so it was easy, but it's manageable even for non-science majors. Time consuming though. But he is open about that.
He was great. Very willing to help. Easy class if you take it seriously.
Great teacher! I struggled with biology in high school, but he really helped me understand it better. The class is still hard (obviously), there are 4 exams, 4 lab exams, and a few assignments each unit. He explains things well and wants you to succeed. As long as you study and put effort in you should be good!
Dr. Joe was amazing for bio 1000! All of his notes match the lecture exams! You really need to study at least 10 hours a week at least to understand the material. Make sure you understand material and do not just memorize since a lot of concepts from the first exam will tie into following exams like the body system.
Dr. Joe was incredible. He is very clear about what is required for this course. He gives multiple assignments with many attempts that work to improve your grade. In addition to this, each exam (4 Lectures and 4 Labs) are put into the grade book as assignments. I recommend Dr. Joe if you are looking to take any biology class.
Took this class for my lab credit for my transfer agreement, and I wouldn't have gone with a different professor! The lectures were informative and Dr. Joe has a sense of humor. Attendance isn't graded, but I suggest attending as much as possible. The class is relatively easy as long as you keep up on the content and don't fall behind.
This class was tough and requires LOTS of studying. First day of class, start studying right after because if you don't, it will all pile up on you and you will fall behind. Lecture was good he talked through the packets of notes he hands out. He is a good professor and tells us to go to his office hours if we ever need help.
