His lectures are informative and hilarious. He cares about his students success and will help you as much as he can. If you come to class and study the material he presents you'll pass the tests. His tests are very fair and in class He doesn't try to trick you, but you do have to know your stuff. He talks super fast using fancy latin names.

I love the lectures and the class environment by this professor! He makes biology fun and you don't feel like your in one of the most failed college classes! He does not require you to buy the book. The tests aren't easy, but if you come in listen to the lectures, take notes and ask questions and you will do great! Well... you'll at least pass!

He is super funny and really personable. He knows his stuff for sure and it is enjoyable to listen to his lectures. He gives really really hard tests and he also gives pop quizzes on a regular basis. I would probably take another one of his classes, but his tests make me reconsider, haha. Solid professor, though.

Amazing. Great lectures and super funny. You have to go to pass. He posts his lecture slides but they are mostly pictures so if you miss the commentary that goes with them they are useless. Graded on tests and "in class quizzes". Most of the quizzes are just writing your name on a paper so the people that actually came to class get points.

Joey is an awesome teacher. He puts his powerpoint on canvas to refer back to them. He grades heavy on tests but really he just expects that you know and can communicate the material back to him. He is really funny and loves to tell stories. He gives great feedback and answers questions honestly. His study guides are really useful for his tests.

The large class kind of abused their power by asking retarded questions, of which he was kind enough to answer. He knows maybe too much about biology. Very smart man

Dr. Mugleston sets expectations early and sticks to them. His class is tough, but fair, and he gives every opportunity for his students to succeed. He expects you to attend because he actually teaches material you won't find in the book or in PowerPoints. The tests can be tough (it IS biology), but be does good best to help you be prepared.

Here's what to expect. Big classes. Everyday the prof. will open a Powerpoint (consisting of pictures and bullet points) and talk. But DANG does he know his stuff (and he can be pretty funny) Your success if purely up to you. He doesn't take attendance and there's zero homework, but the tests make up for that. Ask questions and STUDY your textbook.

Grades on a curve, but the class is graded soley on quizes and tests, so you should show up to class. He breeds hundreds of species of reptiles and hates mammals! One of the hardest classes I ever took, but would do again. One of the coolest professor's I've had. Has a passion for biology and it shows in his lectures.

I thought he was a pretty good professor, although the class itself is difficult. He gives great lectures and covers everything that will be on the exam if you take good notes and study. You don't need to buy the textbook as long as you show up to class.

Classwork is hard, but there is hardly any outside homework/readings. All you really have to do is show up and listen. There is a weekly quiz, but those are open book. He also curves the tests. He clearly point outs what you need to know in the lectures so just go to class, pay attention, and you will be fine.

Joey is a phenomenal professor! All the reviews saying otherwise seem to be from students who got C's in intro to bio so I would disregard them since they obviously don't know what college classes are like. This course had quizzes every lecture, just go to class, review the slides and care about learning, not your grade, and you'll do great!

He knows a lot about Biology. His lectures are really funny and doesn't give much homework except for the open note weekly quizzes. He clearly states the objectives of what will be on the exams. He grades on a curve and drops your lowest test and quiz. You're probably okay to miss a day or two, but his exams and quizzes are lecture heavy.

It's a tough class, but Prof Mugleston makes it relevant and interesting. Tests are the entire grade, and they aren't easy. Taking notes in class paying close attention to offhand examples is important. Loved the lectures, fascinating material, and I'm not at all a science person. It also took a ton of time to study and prep well for tests.

Dr. Mugleston is brilliant, but if you expect to breeze in and not put in any effort, you're gonna have a bad time... If you come to class, listen, take notes and read (or at least skim) the material, you'll get a good grade, learn something and probably get a chuckle. This is my second time in his class, and I'd take him again. HE TALKS FAST!

Very cheesy and corny, which isn't the worst. This class is very hard, but prof. mugleston is accessible and makes things simple. He uses a lot of latin names for plants and animals, but if you can get past that, you'll be fine.

This is a Biology class so it's pretty difficult, but Mugleston was super kind and lenient. Plus he really loves animals and brought some to the class which was AWESOME!

Super smart guy and super good lectures that are fun to listen to. Sometimes he is so smart and goes off about a lot of stuff and you don't know what all you are suppose to know, although most of the time he clarifies.

HE IS A HEAVEN SEND. Seriously if you are taking BIO just as a prereq/general TAKE HIS CLASS. He understands what we'll most likely never use again and what is just pointless memorization. There are weekly, open note quizzes and 4 exams. He drops your lowest quiz score and exam score. Plus he curves the exams. SERIOUSLY TAKE THIS CLASS.

I took BIOL 1010 from him and it was my favorite general I've ever taken. He makes every class interesting. There was no homework besides a weekly 10 question quiz and studying for tests. This class was hard enough that I wasn't bored, but he also understands that he teaches a 1010 course so he doesn't make his class too difficult or time consuming

Good lecturer, somewhat humorous and sometimes brings in live animals during his lectures. A fun professor who will teach you extra about biology and you can tell he is passionate about his teaching. Beware of the quizzes on canvas every week and do not forget to do those. The tests aren't too bad if you study appropriately either.

Amazing for a biology major like myself. His lectures are detailed and fun! He is a super funny guy who always brings animals to class. If you can't handle creatures like ferrets running around, than don't take his class. His tests are difficult, but not impossible. The first one caught me by surprise, but he does drop your lowest score.

Professor Mugleston was a super good teacher! Classes were all lectures and attendance wasn't required. If you don't go to class though, you won't pass. Showing up and taking notes is all you'll need to do to get a decent grade. I went to class 80% of the time, didn't study too much and got a B. He talks fast so note taking is a little hard.

Mugleston is a godsend for non-science majors. His lectures are accessible & engaging even if you aren't interested in biology. You can miss a few classes & not suffer repercussions, lectures are online, & weekly quizzes are open book. Only downside is his tests are HARD & require serious study time. Luckily he drops the lowest test score!

He is really passionate and often really funny. He uses a powerpoint every class but most of it was interesting stuff. It wasn't a super easy class but the fun things he did made it better. He would also bring animals and stuff to class which was always the best part.

I would highly recommend Professor Mugleston! I was really nervous to take biology because it seems overwhelming for someone who isn't good at science, but he understands it is a general credit and doesn't make it harder than it needs to be. Weekly quizzes and a few in-class assignments and 4 tests (including the final). I didn't use the book.

Mugleston goes through his lectures pretty fast, but posts his slides online which is helpful. Instead of midterms, he gives group in-class quizzes. You also have to give a presentation at the end of the semester with a partner. There are also 3 one-page papers that he grades pretty harsh. Not too hard overall. I liked the class a lot.

Prof Mugleston is amazing! He does expect you to earn your grades so you will definitely need to study if you want to pass, but he has clear study guides, gives really good lectures, and grades on a curves. I highly recommend.

Prof. Mugleston is a real life Biologist, so he brings in animals that he owns to class that relate to the topic of discussion. His lectures are really good because he has experienced a lot of the things discussed through field research. Sometimes test questions are worded very differently than what was discussed, which could throw some people off.

Professor Mugleston was super awesome and he really made me love Biology even though I put off taking this class for 3 years. He brought animals in and really made the lesson applicable to us. Would totally take a class from him again if I could.

I was dreading this class because I've never liked science, but I've actually really enjoyed it! He makes the lectures very engaging and funny and often casually holds an animal while talking. No homework, but you do need to show up and take good notes if you want to pass the tests, which make up most of your grade. He really knows his stuff.

This guy is the COOLEST. He usually walks around with no shoes and brings animals to class almost every lecture (snakes, spiders, centipedes, lizards, geckos) He made all of the material easy to understand and applicable to non-bio majors. He drops and curves tests/quizzes appropriately, and makes all of the information exciting. 10/10

The textbook is recommended but not required, you're fine without it. He goes a bit fast in lectures but all slides are put on canvas. There are little assignments besides weekly quizzes and he curves all exams.

I loved Dr. Mugleston (Joe.) He was really entertaining and a solid teacher. He was always helpful if you came and asked for help with anything. Very patient, very kind. He made class interesting, even early in the morning. I loved seeing the animals he would bring to class too. If you're unsure what teacher, he was great.

Mugleston is a great biology teacher. He's funny and sometimes brings animals in, which makes the lectures fun and interesting. His tests were tough, but he curved them when I took the class. Prof. Mugleston definitely knows his stuff when it comes to biology. And that ended up being a good and bad thing when it came to his teaching. I learned a lot but he talks SUPER fast and SUPER in depth at times and that was sometimes hard. His tests are super easy so if you are looking for an easy A and also want to learn, take his class!

Joey is great, he really knows the material and tests on what is really important, he doesn't make you memorize the latin names, he will tell you the names but even on tests he will have the common names or examples right next to the latin. He brings animals in most days and is very engaging. He answered alot of less related questions after class.

this is my favorite professor of all time. attendance wasn't mandatory but i went because i really enjoyed his lectures. they were interesting and people who went typically got better grades than those who didn't. he's very understanding and this class is not too difficult to fit into a busy work week or full academic schedule. use his study guide

I can not say enough good things about this man! His lectures are always interesting, he usually brings in live animals to his lectures , and he is hilarious! I had him for the spring 2020 semester and I can honestly say I missed going to his class when UVU was closed down everything was switched to a online format. Go to class take good notes!

The class was hard but he's really passionate about what he teaches and he brought in animals to show the class, so that made it more enjoyable. Make sure to take notes word for word because he'll put it on the test how he said it and try to trick you by changing up the words. 3 tests were the majority of the final grade so that made it stressful.

Sit close, he's quiet. 1 Canvas quiz a week, 2 attempts, easy points. Study quiz questions, test questions worded almost exactly the same except he changes 1 or 2 words then makes the test question TF or multiple choice. Class was super fun. He brings in all kinds of live animals. Don't bother getting a book. Use his outline to take notes in class

He is such an amazing teacher!! He is very clear on what is due. For every test there are objective reviews to study and he always curves the test which is so so nice!!! biology is hard, but he makes it fun. If i miss a day, i don't feel out of control stressed. Not many assignments in this class, it's chillllll !

If you are someone who doesnt like science classes or gets bored easily then He is the professor for you because he makes learning biology so fun and exciting. His weekly quizzes are quite simple and youre given multiple attempts. Exams are well prepared and as long as you pay attention youll succeed.

Mr. Mugleston is such a great teacher, he tries to explain everything as best as he can and he is patient. Biology is a tough subject for me but I passed because of the way he taught things. When taking notes I recommend you take it on your computer, he goes pretty fast sometimes and you can miss a lot of things if you are handwriting the notes.

Prof Mugleston is the bomb!!! His class was very easy, a review quiz every week that you have multiple attempts on and then 3 tests and a final. He was seriously awesome, his lectures were super fun and interesting - coming from someone who dislikes science. If you have the chance, take Biology from him!!!

He is a very funny guy which makes class fun. However, he also moves very quickly along the lesson which made it hard for me to follow. The class content was difficult but he makes it the review quizzes and guided notes help a lot! He drops your lowest test score and he also raises the grades to make sure the class average isn't too low.

I absolutely love Joey (Professor Mugleston). He does move pretty fast, but he has the slides on Canvas to go back and make sure you have all the notes you want. He makes the lectures super interesting and I always looked forward to class. The course load is light with just 1 weekly review quiz (and a couple other small, easy assignments.)

Im not a huge fan of science and Im not great at it, but this guy is super entertaining and engaging, his lectures kept me thinking even outside of class and I still bring up a good amount of what I learned. I took this just for credit but honestly it was the best science class Ive had in years.

Prof Mugleston is a very cool professor. He talks a little fast sometimes, but thats because theres a lot of information. He brings in reptiles and bugs to show and relate to the lecture. Sometimes he just also brings them in to show them off. :) Hes really kind.

He is very entertaining to listen to and his tests and assignments are really easy. He would often bring snakes or other animals to class to keep things interesting. The only thing I didn't like about his class was that he went super fast during lectures and you basically just had to copy down his powerpoint.

Joey is super funny. He doesn't require much homework and lets you use Google on all tests and exams (including the final). But, if you want to get an A, be good at taking notes. Sometimes he's cynical towards groups with different viewpoints than what scientists believe about the environment, vaccines, etc. If that offends you, find someone else.

Dr. Mugleston is a professor you must take. His class is designed for your success. If you pay attention in class and take good notes, the quizzes and tests are pretty easy. He also lets you use basically any source while youre doing your test (even Google). Dont expect an A, but expect a fun, easy to pass class.

I LOVED his lectures! He talks quickly and note taking can be tricky. But the lectures are very interesting and he occasionally brings in live reptiles. He posts weekly videos to help solidify concepts, which are very helpful. There are weekly review quizzes, three tests, and one final exam. Do yourself a favor and take his class!

He talked fast but was very interesting. Take notes on a laptop to keep up. I hate science but this was the perfect class for me. Open book, note, and internet for quizzes, test and FINAL. He also brings cool animals in and is really funny. I would take another class from him because I didn't hate it and I hate science. Would recommend!

As far a biology goes I enjoyed this class. Joey really knows his stuff and is always quick to make jokes. Lectures move quickly though a lot material. Big overview on general biology. You learn some cool stuff about biology though. Brings in cool animals from time to time so thats always fun!

I really enjoyed this class! I don't like science, but his lectures are interesting! He is super chill. The only assignments in the class are weekly quizzes and 3 exams, so I normally only spent about 10 minutes on homework a week. The exams are worth 40% and the final 30% of your grade. He drops 2 quizzes and 1 exam. Everything is open note.

Awesome teacher I wish he taught more than biology because I would take his other classes. I took his online class you have a weakly timed quiz based off that weeks lectures, he also provides a note page for you. He drops the 2 lowest and the lowest test of the 3 super easy class.

Amazing class and great professor, if you have a pulse and do bad then something is wrong. No homework just a 10 question quiz a week about previous lecture, then 3 exams and a final. The exams are open everything. Lectures can be a little full at times but very informative.

Awesome teacher! I took it online there was a weekly quiz. Everything was open note open book there were weekly lectures. You have to watch. He gave you the notes to fill out for class. Notes were on the quiz. He drops one of the three exams and drops two of your lowest quizzes.

He was a great professor! The only homework we had was a weekly quiz and that was it. I will say that attendance, while not mandatory, is definitely recommended. Same with the textbook. A big pro was that on tests and quizzes you can use google and notes etc. Even on the final! I really enjoyed this class and he was a great professor.

He knows his stuff and is enthusiastic about biology. His classes are very lecture heavy the whole time, form beginning to end of class & semester. He goes over a lot of stuff, really fast, so if you miss a day or even a part of class, it's pretty rough. Late work is not accepted, but he drops a couple of your worst scores, so that is nice.

Very easy class - most will sail through it (just make sure you show up to class). All assignments are open-everything, he clearly cares about his work, and will bring in a critter nearly every day. Probably one of my favorite classes I've ever taken, I cannot recommend him enough.

Really easy A. Quizzes are super easy. Every test quizzes, midterms, and finals are open anything. Final is a little bit more difficult than midterms. Class could get pretty boring at times, but he was a good professor and was super chill and willing to work with you.

He was a good teacher overall. He brought alive pets and would have some funny videos to watch. Although as the year moved toward cells and such, it became drier and harder to pay attention. He moves pretty quickly through his lectures, But he is always willing to answer questions. He offers open book/note, you don't need to memorize everything.

I loved this teacher, he brought animals to class almost every day and he made the class interesting. His class was easy and didn't include a ton of work. Good dude. His lectures are entertaining but just long. Open notes on everything so I stopped going and still got a good grade. He drops your worst exam and 2 quizzes at the end of the semester so that helps a ton. Super easy! If you just are doing it for the credit take it early in the morning and never go thats what I did.

100% a lecture heavy class. Although the tests are open anything, basically the entirety of your grade is based on those three tests. 2 lowest assignments and 1 low test were dropped. Syllabus states that an "A" is a 94% and up, which left me at an A-.

Professor Mugleston is a super chill guy. He tries to make the lectures enjoyable despite them being really long and sometimes boring. He brings reptiles to class a lot which is fun. There was a quiz every week, some midterms and a final but everything was open book, so it was pretty easy to succeed.

AMAZING! I actually learn in this class, and he gives great answers to questions. There is a lot of info thrown at you which makes it a more difficult class, but he really makes up for that by explaining wonderfully. He always brings in animals for us to hold as well which I love. One downside is it is A LOT of information in a short period of time

Prof. Mugleston knows that most of the students who take this class are required to take it and plans accordingly. He makes it easy to pass as long as you put in a little effort and gave good additional resources for in depth understanding. He also made biology easier to understand in relation to us. Felt like a more in depth high school bio class.

He puts in a lot of effort to make his lectures engaging, knowing that most take the class for general ed requirements. You'll learn about all the typical biology stuff, but he does a really good job explaining how the general knowledge can be important for non-biology majors. Passionate about the material which makes the lectures less boring.
