He is the best economic teacher i had. Good teaching style and very helpful. But you have to really understand what he teaches and read books to take his exam. He is the one that motivate me to major in Business. If you want to learn, highly recommand.

He really TEACHES! Pay attention and you will understand so much! Great teacher! I had him twice(micro and macro), I even had a distant learning economics with him and he still did a great job!!
He is such a wonderful teacher. One of my favourite in CCP. He teach really well, funny, nice and very helpful. I wish all the teacher in CCp could be like him.
I had him for stat in the summer, he is totally easy if you follow the lecture and read the book. His test are straight forward, he made stat actually interesting.
He teaches very well. Copy everything he writes on the board, read the book, study your notes and you'll pass. His test is nothing but multiple choices with 4 essays but you only got to choose 3 out of the 4. I definitely will recommend him.
VEry HARD TESt
kOoL tEACHEr!!
VERY BORING CLASS. DIDNT LIKE HIS TEACHING STYLE AT ALL. MOSTLY ALL LECTURES. A LOT OF NOTE TAKING. JUST BORING.
He is a great teacher. His tests are really hard, but he announces the essey questions and lets you know what you need to cover for the multiple choice. So you always know what you need to study and if you study you have an A Lazy?Don't take him..you'll fail
Horrible teaching, not really helpful; also really boring. If you ask for help he doesn't explain clearly. Overall, he isn't a good professor; if you have him as a professor I advise you to drop his class.
boring just lectures and taking notes if u r creative and need more group activities and more interactive do not take him it will drive u insane i dropped ....thank goodness ill take anthropology instead
I took an online course with him as the professor..he's definitely a prick when it comes to answering his homework questions. Don't bother trying to ask for help either..I've asked him for help on a few occasions and he basically just ignored my questions. The test questions are also worded horribly.
As far as Distance Education, he is bad. He is not helpful when you ask for help, he is not fair at all in his grading, & he provides terrible notes. His tests questions have wording that makes you want to rip your hair out. You have no idea what he is saying. Even if you do all of your homework and study, his tests will confuse you terribly. AVOID
He likes his beer and pizza subject matter is boring but his notes are good i u read the book eays A or i ur like me and get lazy C or B
PASSED BY THE GRACE OF GOD. THIS MAN HAS TO BE THE MOST BORING MAN ON EARTH. I LEARNED BUT IT WAS VEEEERRRYYY HARD TO DO. HALF OF MY CLASS DROPPED.
OMG!!!!! AVOID, AVOID,AVOID, AVOID,AVOID,AVOID,AVOID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I took micro with this teacher, he's ok. Not good but not really that bad either. His test are multiple choice and 4 essay question which you have to answer only one. If you have time to study, read his notes and textbooks, it won't be that difficult to get an A, however due to taking 19 credits (6 classes) + work full time, only managed to get a B
A difficult class with 4 tests and 1 optional final. You need to follow the notes to ace the tests. The professor teaches pretty well though and makes this dry subject a tad bit interesting.
Took this class online, avoid it. He is not helpful at all and unfair in grading. Terrible test questions. Do not ask about his grading or your grades go even lower. Even if you do all of your homework and study, his tests will confuse you terribly. AVOID
boring, test not related to work but essays are easy. Take another teacher
I took him for two classes online. He graded relatively hard but I got two A's. If you can work independently and don't need to contact the professor often...he may be okay. But if the subject matter isn't your interest and you may need help, stay far, far away.
Took his class on line. Tests are difficult and the questions are unclear. Did not really explain what you got wrong on the homework. Expects you to keep up on current events.
I took this class online. I'm a good student, and this is the first C I have ever received. The midterm and final count as 80% of your grade, the rest is homework. He grades homework very harshly. His additional notes are right from the textbook, so their not very helpful for helping you comprehend the material.
Enjoyable teaching style. Tests are highly comprehensive in relation to the chapters covered. Truly expects you to comprehend the material. I would take him again, but would allocate much more time to studying the material.
This prof SUCKS!!! not helpful and his class is just boring. If you just OK to get a C then is for you. Not a recommenmdation for you take him if you want a B.
He was great. He never give out homeworks nor assignments. All u have to do is answer some of review questions he gave out (but wont collect) which will be in the tests. Just pay attention and ask questions and you will be fine. Learn a lot from him.
Cool teacher, funny guy. Very understanding. I took his class online and he was pretty linient in his grading. But You really need to keep up, or else you will die!
I took this class online and it was not easy. Profssor was very helpful, answered all of my e-mails within hours. His grading is very fair, and the tests are not too difficult if you study and practice to solve the problems. The textbook is excellent, and professor's notes are very clear and concise. Good course! I definitely recommend it.
took him summer 2011. he messed up my 4.0gpa, i got a B. he doesnt offer extra credit. he is a hard grader. test are difficult. no papers. would not recomend him.
His class and tests are not easy, but he is one of best professors I've had at CCP. His lecture and requirement for the students are comparable to the same classes at Upenn. Get ready to be challenged and learn a lot from his class!
This is an online Statistics course. It's quite hard, but the professor is very supportive, helpful and fair. He is always there whenever you have a question. I have learned a lot and would take him again and again.
I took micro with this professor online. And I'm not sure why people are saying he is helpful because I got the complete opposite. All of the assignments were through myeconlab and he didn't grade anything it was all automatic multiple choice Tests were EXTREMELY hard. I definitely do not recommend if you want to learn anything and get a good grade
Very tough! Not only is the material hard, he is a super tough grader, too. If you are good with numbers then take him. He is clear. But I had to drop. Also he does not simplify the formulas at all. Very hard. Would not recommend.
Don't do it this class is hard and the notes makes no sense and the test are hard....Keep going to another class say no to Econ 112
Very hard course to take online but he is very helpful and understanding.
I had issues opening some of the questions in the test, emailed instructor and received no response- just incorrect answers for these questions. Mr. Murray's notes for the chapters are just outlines- no additional information given than what is already in the text. Incorrect homework questions are not given any feedback as to why.
Not an easy course at all. Test are very long and the wording can be confusing.
Very diff, not enough time allowed for testing, wording of problems is very diff at times, feedback not typically helpful. Prof Murray will help you if you ask and especially if able to get to campus, but most take online classes for a reason. I am sure the mean grade was an F and the standard deviation was low. Passed, but would not take again
This class is very hard and boring. He lectures all class and his test questions doesn't match his lecture. His wording on his test makes them difficult. I have a 3.91 Gpa with 50 plus credits and I got my first C in his class. Avoid Avoid Avoid
Trust me ,stay far away from him,if you need a F is your best one.
Stay Away
Your grade is 100% based on tests. His tests are very tricky and confusing. For the essays even if what you put is right and what he had in his notes he will just write "more" and take off points. Boring Lectures. Avoid.
This professor is very mean and hard to pass. Especially online he doesn't explain the assignments or does he offer assistance when confused. Please beware.
stay away from this teacher his tests are very hard and never gives you enough time. avoid avoid avoid !!!!
He is incredibly hard. The tests are too long and very challenging as well as being worth 80% of the grade, and there are only 2. He did let me make things up when I was sick without much convincing so he was helpful but your answers to everything had to be perfect. It was better to over answer everything so assignments took all day to complete.
one of the hardest graders i have ever had. very inconsistent in his grading of homeworks. his exams were also some of the most difficult i ever had and the midterm in my class had an average score of 68%. macroeconomics is not a hard course but it was made hard by this professor. choose a different professor. stay away from this guy.
His tests are hard, but you learn. English is my 2nd language, but I got an A. Make sure you read the book and do all the questions that he assigns. You have to understand the subjects in order to do well on his test. If you are a lazy person, I am sorry there is no way you can get a B or A in his class. Get ready to learn and work hard!!
test are hard. stay away from this class if you are looking for an a.
If you are looking for an easy A, don't take this class. You have to do all the canvas assignments and study the key terms. He will help you if you need it though. Overall, as long as you put in the work you'll do fine and learn a lot.
First off he doesn't explain anything n gets annoyed when you ask questions and his test are very tricking I took notes studied even went to tutoring and I'm a A student this class was just not helpful at all unless u are great in math and can dedicate your life to this class literally.. Avoid avoid avoid
I had this teacher for Statistics online. He was not helpful at all and he doesn't give you any credit even when you tried your best to do the assignments. His test aren't really hard but if you have a tough time with this subject the time you are given for the test definitely isn't long enough. I will never take a class with this professor again.
Professor Murray is good professor. His lectures are kind of boring, but he breaks the routine ocassionaly by throwing one of his funny jokes. He gives 4 tests and a final. The lowest grade is dropped. The average of my first 4 tests was an A, so I didn't have to take the final. Study in the weekend using the Learn Smart system and you'll be fine.
Actually he's really nice, i took his online and in class. He will pass you if you show him that you try your best. Exam is hard. But afterall, he's such a nice professor.
DO NOT take him. Awful experience ever
Hes not clear on what he expects from you in the assignments. Even if you tried and answered it but missed something he will not credit you. It's pretty much a pass or fail class. There's only two exams which are 80% of your final grade. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take him.
Will not explain himself . Unclear on what he wants . He needs to read this and help his students out !!
Econ 112 is not an easy class. You need to work really HARD to pass. I spent 3 hours + a day just for this class. I do not know if there is any other professor that can make Statistic easy. Prof. Murray did his job. You asked. He answered. I could even asked him to check if I did the assignments right before turning in.
Tips to pass this class? Study, do assignments and suggested exercises. If you have ANY questions (even to ask him to check on your assignments), send him an email. Please note that he rarely answers on the weekend. Do not need to buy new book with code. Bonus 10% for exercises in Aplia but, trust me, you won't have enough time to do them.
I took this class online, bad Idea. This Professor is not helpful when you ask by email he answer your questions in two or three words. If you are a slow learner like me DO NOT sign with this professor.
Do not take his class online unless you are really good with Statistics and require no help! His test are extremely hard and the grading scale is awful. His exams are made up of about 15 questions half multiple choice that are only worth 2 points each and the rest are word problems that require multiple answers & are worth about 15 points each.
listen to the reviews, don't take his class. unhelpful and tough grader. not clear on his expectation. and when i receive my grades back, i expect to understand where i went wrong with the right answers. he just tells you what you did wrong and expects for you too know.
I took ECON 181 online. Professor uses the canvas portal for general discussions and homework assignments 2 per week and then also uses a system called McGraw Hill Connect. Murray is a very tough grader and he does not give good feedback but rather cynical comments on homework. You must really teach your self in order to pass this course.
He is the professor that the school only hired to make more tuition money. Do not take his class he does not give any feedback what so ever all you get is #2 is wrong he is heavy into the mathematical part of statistics than on the reading and he does not have a fair and balanced scoring for tests you can fail a 17 question test by missing 3 quest.
He is a horrible professor. His communication skills are horrible and his grading sucks. He can give a test with 15 questions and you can fail if you get two wrong. Do not take this class unless you are prepared to fail the course.
Less than 1 star. Had him for online macroecon. He provides absolutely no feedback - all you get is "you're wrong." I'd email him specific and thorough questions about the material and I'd be lucky to get back a complete sentence. Idk how he is in person but online he's horrible. Unclear about expectations or why he marks things wrong. Avoid.
Joseph Murray needs to be a statistic himself. When useless professors drag it out until retirement, it is time . Guess what , Murray, That's Economics 101!
Easily the WORST professor I have ever had. He is a very harsh grader with horrendous communication skills. If you expect to actually learn anything or correct your mistakes with his reviews, there are none. Get used to seeing that you are simply wrong. He refuses to review tests and homework, therefore you will never see where you messed up.
When you take an online class, you expect strong feedback. However, with Mr. Murray you get no explanations and he never discusses homework. His grading is that of, when you get the majority of 3 questions wrong out of 14 on an exam that somehow equals a 55%. Do yourself a favor and dont take him. The reviews dont lie, and idk how CCP allows this
Terrible. Reviews say it all. Don't blame the class for low test grades, especially when you refuse to go over homework and exams.
Professor Murray is clearly the best teacher I had at CCP. For starts, he encourages you to not purchase the expensive, brand new CCP edition textbook. I admit I didn't get his class at first, but when it finally clicked, it clicked. If I needed help, he was there if you asked. He genuinely cares. You earn your grade though; he's no pushover.
prof murray teaches by the book, the questions on his tests are by the book, and hes overall very straighforward. his classes consist of him lecturing on the material in the book. do your homework, its easy, and he adds up all your total scores. not the type of teacher who cares about effort, your grade is based on how well you do on tests
I've taught myself (key words) through plenty of online classes and have gotten A's & B's for all except this one. 2 hour limit to take the exams & that wasn't long enough. Exam problems are slightly different than homework problems but it's enough to throw you off. Gives bad notes so you rely 80% on the textbook. Gives terrible feedback. Avoid him
I am angry at myself for giving this professor a chance. He doesn't respond to messages, gives too little time for very long exams, and doesn't seem to care about his students actually learning. He wants students to show work but he never shows work when he explains anything. You can tell he just wants a paycheck and nothing more. So disappointed.
By far one of the worst professors I have ever taken in my entire life. He does not give enough time for tests, is not very helpful when it comes to feedback or advice on doing well in the course, and just doesnt care about teaching or his students academic wellbeing. If I were you, I would avoid ALL of his classes at all costs!
I took ECON112 Fall 2018. I was worried at first because of some reviews here; however, Im glad I chose his class. I didnt read the book, but I read all of his notes for every chapter in Canvas, which is substantially useful. His tests are not that difficult, if you make sure you read the notes and do the suggested exercises listed in syllabus.
Do not take this professor. I am currently enrolled in his class and wish I would've listened to the reviews. He gives about 10 assignments and 4 exams. The exams are worth 80% of your grade so if you fail them you fail the class. He doesn't give enough time for his exams at all. Stay away from this professor.
Should have listened to reviews and dropped the class when I had the chance.
Dont think he cares if students pass or fail. wants a paycheck and pretty sure he doesnt even look at assignemnts just gives 50's on everything bc he does not care, good luck(:
Professor Murray is a really cheerful and good guy who makes learning economics fun. The textbook is included in the cost of the course, which is great. He will tell you to read chapters multiple times, but just take intensive notes and study them hard, and you'll be fine. Definitely a lot of reading involved but overall not a super hard class.
Not a clear feedback given for online class. Throw couple of notes for every chapter but when the class get harder it's hard to understand. The weight of exams grade are 80% of the grade. Failed the exams failed the class!!
Taking his Econ181 class asynchronous. Prof Murray provides weekly responsive assignments and zoom sessions for students struggling to learn from just the book. 4 tests are 80% of grade so study. Only flaw is that he doesnt really give feedback on assignments, so be sure & reach out to him for feedback if youre curious to why you got that grade.
Lots of notes, usually 2 assignments per week plus 4 exams throughout the semester. Hard to keep your grade up in my opinion.
I almost didnt take Pro Murphy because of some of the reviews. I actually I enjoyed the class and felt like I learned more than expected. It was an online class so yes you do basically teach yourself! Hes very understanding if you reach out and talk to him. Hope on Zoom show some interest and you should be good
Asynchronous class - Exams 70%, Connect 10%, Chp. Readings 10%, Canvas Asmnt 10%. Gives feedback fast, zoom meetings cover how to do homework and essentially everything that will be in exams (recordings made). Explains everything clearly and has a sense of humor. Will let you redo work if you submit it early. We are in college guys, just study.
You do not want to take him. He is hard and disorganized. He has homework that is impossible because you often have to read chapters ahead to do. He also repeats questions on exams. He has not updated his syllabus in forever. it says you should not bring a beeper to class. I worked so hard getting a B. I have a 3.8 GPA and almost get A grades.
