I really liked dr. Normandins personality. He pretty much reads off the power points though, but they are very detailed. The book helps to clarify things cause sometimes there will be pictures of a process but no words. The test aren't too bad if you study. They are multiple choice, fill in the blank and two short answers.
Fun professor. Didn't used the book at all. The power points are very detailed and that's all I used to study. The quizzes are easy and test aren't bad. He reuses the quiz question for the test multiple choice and fill in the blank section, there is loo two short answers usually compare and contrast
He made Animal Biology a lot easier compared to other teachers, and this course was supposed to be one of your hardest biology classes. Tests are pretty easy because he reuses the SAME EXACT quiz questions... the free response aren't hard. Gives bonus points on tests and final grade. He gives case studies to students, but they aren't that bad.
3 Tests, 4 online timed quizzes, and couple extra credit assignments. Reads off ppt's. Have to study a lot by yourself.
A fabulous lecturer who couldn't be more passionate about teaching and promoting the new(ish) Neuroscience department. He is very approachable and willing to go out of his way to help his students get connected to research opportunities at GSU. I can't possibly recommend him highly enough. Take him for sure unless if you're super homophobic.
Amazing professor and knows his stuff! Topic is extremely interesting yet hard as it gets into the science of how drugs interact with the systems;if you can grasp Chp 4-the rest is a breeze. Several quizzes and exams. Numerous ways to get extra credit. I strongly suggest attending class and the help sessions that he offers. Great teacher!!
I highly recommend Dr. Normandin, it's easy to make a good grade AND you actually learn a lot in his class too! He's very personable as well. Very awesome professor.
He's adorable & fantastic. I enjoyed his class. Attendance was mandatory but no one came because he only reads from the ppts. I went because I liked his personality. Overall, I thought this class was easy. Don't let the neuroscience aspect scare you. There were review sessions held by a very handsome TA. Drops a test & quiz! Extra credit available!
I loved Dr. Normandin; he's hilarious and keeps things interesting. It seems he genuinely cares about students learning the material. There was lots of extra credit, but all of it was actually constructive. His powerpoints were also excellent. Logical flow and easy to discern important information from concise slides.
Dr. Normandin is AWESOME! My favorite teacher at GSU. He is so supportive and helpful with open office hours to anyone who need extra help. He will have you laughing the entire class! He takes hard material and breaks it down to understand better. Never used my book, all exam questions from power point. I wish I could take him for all my classes :)
Highly recommended for Principles of Neuroscience! Very clear and fair grader. Always willing to help and is there to see you succeed. If you are not sure about something go to office hours. He likes to see you care about the subject.
Amazing teacher. Would take again. Treats students with respect and makes class interesting. attendance isn't mandatory but you will want to go. I honestly wish this class was longer. quizzes are easy, you have to review for the tests but it's not hard to pass as long as you listen to the lectures. Take him for anything if you get the chance.
I walked out of his office almost crying one time. Normandin makes you feels like your the dumbest student at GSU. He is helpful ,but you have to go to his office knowing what your talking about. Make sure the door is closed because he will embarrass you. 4 exams and quizzes ( drop lowest). He knows his stuff, but i wouldn't take him again.
He really makes you feel dumb as rocks for asking a question. He just comes off very weird and it makes me not want to approach him for help. Oh and you really have to know your stuff down to the details if you want to speak to him at all. I do not like him in the least, but he really knows his stuff. The lectures are insanely long. Tedious class!
Dr. Normandin is the man (very serious). His class really isn't really that hard at all. This is college people, you are going to need to study! If you understand this then you will do fine.
Dr. Normandin was an amazing professor. He did teach from PowerPoints, but he also included hands-on activities and encouraged classroom discussions. The exams and quizzes were straight forward from the lecture, the lowest quiz and exam grades are dropped, and he offers extra credit. Once you take his class he will always be willing to help you.
Lectures are long, tedious, and boring. He pretty much reads off his ppts and in a very monotone voice at that. I'm a neuro major and I found his class terribly boring and I almost changed my major. His tests aren't necessarily difficult, but you really do have to get into the nitty gritty details and know very specific details.
Hand's down, my favorite professor at GSU. He's hilarious, and really knows his stuff. The class was interesting and informative, however, don't think that it's easy. The material was difficult and he was there every step of the way to give you help if you needed it. Ask questions, take good notes, attend class, and participate!
Dr. Normandin is an amazing professor. He was my first experience in the Neuroscience department after I changed my major and I am so glad I did. He keeps lectures interesting and is always cracking jokes. His exams are pretty simple if you pay attention in class and take detailed notes you will succeed.
Professor Normandin is an amazing professor. He provided me with a mentor, and it really helped me pass my first neuroscience class. He's genuine, passionate, and very caring when it comes to his students.
Dr. Normadin is a smart man. He knows what he's talking about, and he wants you to know your stuff too. In this class, record all his lectures, take notes after class, ask (educated) questions, and participate in all the extra credit and you will pass with an A. The lowest exam and quiz are dropped. This class easy but you must try.
Dr. Normandin's class is tough, but an A is definitely achievable. You cover a TON of information. He is always willing to help you understand the material though. There are 4 exams and 4 quizzes, he drops the lowest of each. Attendance is not mandatory, but I highly recommend going to class if you want an A. The book isn't necessary either.
Very down to earth and endearing. He really cares about the subject and his students. A grade is dropped from each grading category. Extra credit and out of class involvement is a must to get an A+. There are group activities that really make you learn about new perspectives. He is very easy to relate to and will help you if you're struggling.
If you can take this class of professor-- DO IT. He really cares about his students and neuroscience. There are extra credit opportunities, dropped grades, and fun activities. He's great
He was better this semester than when I took him last year, but he can be quite condescending and is impatient with students. The coursework isn't difficult but there's a lot of memorization.
I took this class as an elective out of curiosity & loved it. Normandin made me think critically about the topics and I enjoyed his lectures. Liked this class so much that I thought about taking his principles of neuroscience class, but decided I'm not a total masochist. It was difficult, but he cares about his students & will help if they need it
I had the opportunity to take Dr. Normandin for NEUR 2000 and NEUR 3000, this past school year. I have nothing else to say than I LOVED HIM. If you actually pay attention and learn, you'll walk out with great knowledge for the rest of your medical career. He's a sweetheart who really tries to connect with his students. Just ask, he's there to help!
Lectures can be long and tedious, but going to class is important for knowing what essay questions he may ask on exams. Going to class is important for learing functional pathways. Textbook is unnecessary, as his powerpoints are clear and detailed and very helpful. Your main study tool should be PPTs. It's clear he cares about his students.
Dr. Normandin is a great professor even though sometimes he seems intimidating. He really wants his students to succeed so he is willing to help you in anything. The book is not necessary but can be used to get a more thorough grasp of a concept. The tests are pretty straight forward just go to lecture, record him and take notes.
Being in Professor Normandins class is an experience. The class is what you make of it! Come to lectures, take notes, ask questions & interact. Theres no way an A is not achievable unless you truly dont want one. I recommend taking him! You wont regret it. I didnt!
LOVED DR. NORMANDIN! Took his Intro to Neuroscience class & realized why I became a neuroscience major in the first place. Hes so passionate about what he teaches & what you learn. So much to say about him.. just know hes AMAZING! Tests are literally notes plus Lecture Quizzes & Pop. Media quizzes. TAKE HIM! You wont regret it! Got an A.
The class is fairly easy as long as you show up and take notes. The ppts later in the semester have a majority of the info. If you're in the honors section you'll have a project to do and don't be surprised if he takes forever to give feedback. He can be funny at times, but he also has an attitude that makes talking to him difficult at times.
Professional and well organized professor. Dr. Normadin gives you everything to succeed in the class. Fair tests and grading.
He's really nice but he will NOT round up your grade. His lectures are super funny and there's never a dull moment.
He's an amazing, hilarious professor! I really look forward to going to his class. If you pay attention to his lectures and take notes, then tests are a breeze. He offers extra credit, too (up to three bonus points to overall grade).
This man has become the one person I look up to over everyone else in the entire world. His class is my favorite part of the week and he is absolutely phenomenal! I've received two 100% on 50 question exams so far because I love studying for his class so much and I'm looking forward to the rest of the semester! He is the BEST!!!
Every day is a lecture for the entire class time. You have a week or two of lectures and then a 50 question test. You also have online quizes to take about the lecture. Taking detailed notes is a must for this class; you must literally write down almost everything he says. He always has a joke about what we are learning with a great personality.
The content isn't easy but Dr. Normandin does a great job of explaining the concepts. Make sure you ask questions because he will help you understand if you're missing something. If you're active in class all that's left is constant studying/reading so you really get the material and you can get an A. SI sessions are extremely helpful.
Doc Normandin is literally one of the best prof here at State. He is engaging, encouraging and funny. He talks about his difficult in his early college days, but he pushed through. So he is going to make you work. None of the exams were cumulative and if you study. You should be fine. If you don't study, count on failing. He is willing to help tho
He makes sure to try to make the lectures interesting by bringing outside topics to the content. You might want to show up to class because most of the information is based on what you hear during class instead of everything being on a powerpoint. He drops an assignment from each category such as exams. He's also inspirational and kind.
I love taking him for neuro 2000 . You can tell he cares about his career :)
Probably one of the best professors at GSU, he teaches hard course content with ease and explains everything really well. His tests are straightforward. I'd recommend attending his course to do better during the exams. Overall, amazing teacher.
Pretty funny and has a good view of how a college course should be taken and taught. The tests were pretty par for the course not easy but not insanely difficult. I never studied and showed up only half the time and managed a B so its not so hard.
If there was a medal for the most caring, passionate and smart professor, he would get it. I absolutely loved his class, and he made sure to cater to different styles of teaching during his lectures. He has discussions during the lectures to help students understand and go over topics they are unclear about. To pass, pay close attention to lectures
Best professor at GSU . Every lecture he makes very easy to understand, and he is hilarious. Make sure to attend class because this makes the material much more comprehendible. As long as you listen and really study the power points, an easy A. Every day I looked forward to this class, so much so that he inspired me to get my minor in neuroscience!
Dr. Normandin is a real gem at GSU! I truly believe if I had a different professor for this class, I wouldn't have done as well as I have with Dr. Normandin. He's a caring teacher that is willing to go out of his way to make students enjoy and understand the subject. I went to his office hours a couple of times and is very accessible. He's the best
Hes the best !
He's a great professor. He is very clear in his instructions and his lectures are very easy to understand. He is very good with communication and overall an amazing professor. I would definitely take this course again.
Dr. Normandin is seriously a hard worker, he's very accessible outside of class and will dedicate his valuable time to helping you outside of class if you ask. Take advantage of that help! Especially since it is not something you'll likely find during the pandemic elsewhere. Had him for Intro & Principles 1, he makes you want to be and do your best
Great resource to have as an undergrad neuro student. Ridiculously funny and treats you like you're an adult in the real world, not a kid in school. It's cool to be around someone who's excited about what they're teaching and who is an open book. Oftentimes himself & classmates will relate material with vulnerable personal experiences. Respect
Dr. Normandin was great. He was available and straight to the point. His class has 3 exams worth 24% each then 7 quizzes. He offers 3 bonus points so it was very easy. Just study a little and pay attention in class and you will do great
He is lecture heavy even if he posts his ppt, he gives a lot of info in class in person, so if you miss it the ppt mainly has just pictures and definitions. He doesn't do study guides He has 4 exams, 1 final, 10 quizzes. He also has 3 points of extra credit Hes super funny, I really enjoy his lectures. He is caring and accessible outside of class.
Best professor Ive had this semester! Unless you have a study group, you have to go to class because all of the info is based on his lectures. He reviews the information multiple times so that students can understand it. Only 4 tests and some quizzes but overall pretty easy class
Dr. Normandin is my favorite professor I have ever had, and I am an art major. He made every lecture engaging with funny comments and side stories and is someone who very obviously cares about other people. He makes sure that everyone feels heard and understood. The content was hard, but he made it easy to follow and understand. Amazing professor
He's a great teacher and explains things very well. All the info we need for the class is given during lectures so all you have to do is pay attention. He makes lectures fun and the work he gives us isn't too hard
He is a GREAT teacher and ALWAYS willing to help! Weekly lecture videos that can get long, but you have to watch them to do well. Class is very dependent on the 4 tests (84% of the grade), get 1 drop. Has 5 quizzes (also get 1 drop) and 2 assignments that are not worth much. Definitely HAVE to study, but his tests/quizzes are very straightforward!
Dr. Normandin is great! He encourages discussion and questions in class about things we may be curious about. He's super interactive, always willing to chat, and a great lecturer. His style of teaching is lecture heavy and the class itself really relies on your test grade (with one drop!) but if you listen and take notes you'll have a lot of fun :)
When you are in his class, you feel that you understand his material, but the final page on all his exams are always difficult and I really do not remember going through them in class. Beware if you want bonus.
He gives you all the resources to do well in class. Read the textbook and watch lectures (understand the material don't just memorize), take good notes and study them, and apply what you learned by answering his questions in class discussions.
He is amazing! You can tell that he is very passionate about teaching. He makes the class very interesting and fun because of his personality. This class was easier than expected. Definitely take him!
Dr. Normandin is hands down one of the best professors at GSU. Neuroscience is a complicated topic, but he lectures the material in such an understanding way. His classes are always entertaining and he is very open with his students. The class consists of quizzes and exams(each exam is worth almost 30%) but if you put in the effort, you'll do great
Love Dr. Normandin! He is so funny, and his class was very interesting. He responds quick via email, and he's willing to hold office hours late for students. His tests were very similar to lectures. Great class! A must take at GSU!
He has a story for anything you can possibly think of XD. He comes to class on time and is prepared for an engaging lecture. test material is strictly based on lecture, so take your dumb***ses to class. Tests are similar to quizzes. Don't slack off and expect an extension, and don't expect a study guide its an INTRO college course. READ SYLLABUS
To begin, I noticed that several negative reviews about the instructor disappeared. I suspect he may have written some of his own reviews. He often makes sarcastic comments and tries to belittle students. Unfortunately, many students perform poorly on exams, and the instructor doesn't seem to take notice.
He's really chill dude I went into the class last semester thinking this was going to be the worst but the way he teaches is truly inspiring. Make sure you go to the lectures so you can do good on the tests. They're pretty hard but if you did well in chem and bio you'll be fine to be honest.
It is a red flag to see that a lot of his negative reviews are gone. Many neuroscience students say to avoid him if you can however these reviews are stating otherwise which makes me consider that he is writing some of these himself. The class averages on exams are an eye-opener. I would say listen to everything and try hard.
A great teacher who can talk about very advanced topics simply. I came into this class not knowing anything about neuroscience and left with a solid grasp of the basics. Dr. Normandin is hilarious and he is very interested in neuroscience, which makes his lectures engaging. The tests are straightforward but studying is necessary.
To be blunt, taking notes and following along with his slides and lectures was challenging. However, the quizzes aligned with the exam, making things easier. I found flashcards on Quizlet, which helped me through the course.
If you don't study, you won't succeed. Yes, he is sarcastic and can be rude (if you're sensitive) but that doesn't take away from his ability to teach. Neuro majors have to take him, so just get ready to be an actual student for once. p.s. PLEASE go to review sessions, his TAs are amazing. p.p.s, spinal control of movement is BORING omgomgomgomg
He is always there to answer any questions you have. He has a weekly scheduled study session, but if you can't attend that one, he will provide one for you. He genuinely cares about his students. Make sure to attend class to receive all the info you need because the PowerPoint is insufficient. He goes over everything you need!
very weird in lecture. tries to be funny but it just takes away from the learning. hes the department head so his tests are obviously harder. if you dont write down exactly what he said in lecture on the exam youre most likely going to fail. hes condescending in how he talks to people but thats probably because of his personality and life choices.
Loved Dr. Normandin, a very good Professor, I enjoyed his class, and I enjoyed him. Very good presenter, and I learned a lot. Highly recommended. He seems to really care about teaching Neuroscience and his students.
Such a good teacher!!!! He responds to your emails quickly and cares about you if you genuinely care ab
professor normandin, stop getting rid of the bad reviews, it makes you look bad
Loved being in his class because you can tell he is passionate and highly educated about neuroscience. He's both hilarious and professional. If you do not attend every single class and utilize every resource/info he provides, you won't do well in this class. Engagement and lots of effort outside of class are important to be successful in his class.
I took his hybrid course, and it was a rollercoaster. He's very helpful, offering private and group review sessions—take advantage! Make quizlets to truly learn the content. He's a tough grader for Neurons 3000, and the class differs from Neuro 2000. Your grade depends on tests, so study daily!
It is a difficult class; however, taught by anyone else, I believe it would be an impossible class. Pay attention to the first couple chapters! They are important for the rest 3000 & all of 3001. He cares about his students, but has a low tolerance for lack of effort. Memorize the pathways and DO THE EXTRA CREDIT! 3 points on a final grade is HUGE.
Dr.Normandin is great at teaching neuro topics and is obviously very passionate about it. He is super picky about what answers he wants though, so make sure your answers match exactly what he said in lecture. He's funny and cares a lot about his students, but can be condescending at times. The class is hard but not impossible. DO THE EXTRA CREDIT!!
Dr. Normandin was a great professor. However, none of that matters if students feel too intimidated by him to ask him questions. Even though his lectures were interesting, most encounters I've had with him was met with condescending or rude responses. Even though I got a decent grade, I wouldn't recommend hims because he's not a pleasant person.
Gave amazing lectures that I could relate to. He didn't give out too much work and I actually enjoyed his class.
He is passionate and it shows in class. Engaging and funny. However, the way he talks to students can be rude and condescending. He often justifies it as criticism but it comes across as disrespectful. Because of this, students feel intimidated to ask questions, even though the class itself is interesting. Gives extra credit. Good luck Charlie!!!
Dr. Normandin made succeeding in his class very easy. His expectations were clear so it was never a surprise what was on his exams and quizzes. During lectures, he explained everything clearly and made difficult concepts easier to understand. He was very responsive and easy to access outside of lecture. Overall, amazing course and professor.
He is knowledgeable and passionate about neuroscience, and the course itself is strong. However, his behavior comes across as demeaning and dismissive. Questions are met with impatience or condescension, which discourages participation. This lack of empathy creates unnecessary barriers to learning for students.
Good prof.! I missed several quizzes and still came out all right. Can get off-track, but makes class fun and gets important info across well. Has online class reviews every week that are recorded and posted (these are SO helpful). Effort in this class is rewarded!
