The best lab instructor I've ever had. This guy will spend as much time as you need to help you understand any material whether it's from lab or lecture. He's always digging for ways to earn you extra credit. This guy is awesome, hands down. TAKE HIM!!!

Best science teacher I've ever had!! I've taken a LOT of science courses but he has a different way of explaining concepts which are easily understood, he speaks the student's language, very compassionate, caring and understanding but also a genius. Only wish he taught the lecture portion as well.

Professor Ocando cares a lot about his students so much. He'd rather his students do over a lab conclusion, and get every chance to get a better grade. you have to do the work, keep lab observations in a marble notebook, and write solid conclusions based on empirical evidence in order to do well. Lab write-UPS are 75 % of your grade.

Fair grader, gives you the chance to fix lab reports which is amazing. Also, he's great at explaining the principles behind the labs before we do them. Probably the best chem lab professor at QC.

At first Ocando seemed like a harsh grader but he lays it out front in the beginning on what he looks for in the lab reports. He will take off points if you dont have proper documentation. Remember to strike your mistakes out with one line, initial and date it! Other than that, he is very helpful and really cares about his students learning!

He's a cool guy. This class isn't an easy A, you have to re read notes but if you do that, his tests are a breeze. He's a excellent teacher, and his explanations are crystal clear. He gives a quiz every week & assigns homework (but isn't graded) but they actually help you do better in the course. Take him he's the best!

TAKE THIS PROFESSORS CLASS if you are taking organic chem! I was so afraid to take this course because of all the horror stories I have heard, but he makes it SO understandable and manageable. He makes the tests extremely fair and doesnt try to trick you like many other chem teachers try to do. He's awesome, great teacher.

I LOVE PROFESSOR OCANDO! If you have the opportunity to take him for Organic Chemistry Lab - do it! He is very patient and passionate about teaching. The lab content can be difficult if you don't stay on top of key concepts - but that's like any course and no indication on him as an intructor. I also found Professor Ocando to be very relatable.

Organic Chemistry is not easy. Prof. Ocando really tries to get everyone on the same page. He will teach one thing in a few different ways so that it's easier to understand. There is a quiz at the begining of everyclass that really helps let you know how you're doing. I loved how he tied in superfoods to what we learned since Im a dietetics major.

If you have to take Basic Organic Chemistry take it with this professor. He is an excellent teacher. He will take the time to explain things if you don't get it. We had quizzes every day, but he was thorough with the material and it made it easier for our grade to be spread over so many quizzes. Science is not easy to understand in general. But it could be very easy when you have someone like Prof. Ocando to explain you everything you need to know to become in love and passionate for orgo-chem. He is very clear what you need to know to pass his class. He provides review sheets for every exam which is quite similar to the actual exam.

AWESOME PROFESSOR! I struggled a lot through CHEM101 and squeezed by with a B, but this semester I've been getting straight A's! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

He's a great professor once you get past he's sometimes difficult to understand. He'll gladly explain things over again and on his own time if needed. He responds to emails too and prefers you for the ACS exam.

This professor is an easy A with bare minimum reading and studying. Pay attention in lecture, and you'll do fine. Ask questions if things are unclear. He teaches "basic" sciences and do not expect anything more than that. If you want the minimum, this is the course. If you want a challenge, go for general organic chemistry.

Amazing professor. Highly recommended for FNES majors. Explains everything in the best way possible. Tests are DUPLICATES of review sheets so it's super easy. Quizzes are every week about 3 questions for a grade boost. No online HW but the textbook problems he assigns (which aren't mandatory) help a ton. Definitely easier than basic chemisty.

I've taken and failed organic chemistry the last semester because I did not understand the material and my professor was not much help. I've never expected to enjoy this subject before taking professor Ocando's class. He really takes his time to make sure the class knows how to solve the problems. I would highly recommend professor Ocando.

If you want to actually learn organic chemistry then I suggest you take Prof. Ocando. He teaches with the intention that his students must learn. He ties in real outside examples of organic chem to deepen your understanding of the subject. Quiz and hw every week, if you do those you will do good on test. Make sure you study and keep up with class.

Presents material in a very concise manner using different color chalks for every little detail. encourages questioning. progressive in his teaching method, very engaging and innovative, quite inspiring! This is not an easy course, for any who doesn't want to read or actively go to class it is not for you. Prof Ocando does not take attendance but because the lectures are not online studying fromt he txtbook is not enough. He is the best professor I have evr had, he made the class engaging, much easier to understand than any chem teacher I've had!

His lectures are well organized and he breaks down the course so that all his students are able to understand the material. Professor encourages his students to participate in class and will randomly call on them. Attending class and doing the questions on the reviews sheets will guarantee you a passing grade.

Took him for Organic Chemistry 1 Lab 2511. Hands down my favorite professor. He really cares about his students doing well in his lab and understanding the material. Always keeps the class engaged and relates it to real world scenarios. Really wish he will teach Organic chemistry 2... I would 100% take his class again.

Professor Ocando is an absolute pleasure. I took him for Org 1 and 2 lab. He is sweet, caring, interesting, and passionate. He is a bit of tough grader but curves in the end. He is amazing, and I highly recommend him!

I took CHEM 2511 with him and taking CHEM 2521 next semester. He truly wants students to become better analysts and writers and his main goal is to teach us to become more convincing as scientists (and for any other purpose). He also grades toughly for this purpose and has very high expectations. If you take Ocando the lab final is very easy.

The lab was the best with Ocando. Lecture was miserable for me, and it never felt like I got a chance to do my best. But in lab I felt challenged and heard. Gives awesome feedback and wants students to do well. Rare to find in the chemistry department, but really does a phenomenal job at teaching and helping students gain something.

Professor Ocando is passionate and caring. His quizzes can be tough, but he's great at explaining concepts. Staying engaged and using tools like Unstuck ai helped me succeed in this class.
