First, he expects you to be a college student, so read your book & EARN your grade. There is a little bit of a language barrier, but that can be overcome. He likes lab answers in specific form, so ask him questions; he wants you to use critical thinking in answers. I'd take him again if the class was harder & more disciplined. Ask questions!
Very difficult to understand. Expects his students to be knowledgable before he even teaches. Inexpierienced teacher. Easy labs and helpful on those, but good luck with everything else...
he was a good professor but he expected you to think like a geologist... sorry but i hate rocks, pay every close attention in lectures .... language barrier and starts to speak faster when excited about the subject ... i got a B in his class but it was hard work.READ READ READ the book ... oh and labs make sure you write the answer the way he wants
This professor is thorough with his explainations about geological and other earth scienes. Like any class it is important to read the textbook and think about highlighted topics before lectures. This professor is enthusiastic about your learning experience and will help you learn to your capacity. This professor is a wealth of knowledge. A+
Nice professor. He knows his stuff and is versatile too. Returns emails promptly. He wants you to think critically and earn your grade. I'd recommend him to anyone.
This professor knows his subject. Very smart, easy-going, and with good sense of humor. Interested in you knowing Geology, not just a cheap A. Likes students to attend classes and do all lab assignments. Seeks students' opinions in making some decisions that concern the students. I'd recommend him to anyone that is willing to know the real Geology.
I took Prof. Okia's course at a friend's recommendation and I ennjoyed it. He is a master of his subject and he teaches well too. You gotta do some reading to pass his class. He is so passionate about geology.
Being a natural science this class is not easy at all. Professor Okia is very friendly and approachable when needing clarification. He can speak at a fast pace and often gets derailed off topic for a few minutes before getting back to the subject at hand. Makes us wait an hour after lecture before we can do our labs.
Great teacher, but thick Nigerian accent. You get used to it after you listen to him talk for a while. Very knowledgeable with his work, knows a whole lot about Geology. Tests are hard, no homework, but I really like his class, it pushes me to try and get an A.
It may be hard to follow up with criteria on days you start, overtime though each day the material clicks in to place. Sure it's rough, but what fun is life without a little difficulty? The teacher is well respectable, his methods are directly on course, his accent is a tad thick, but you'll ease into it. overall he's well versed in this subject.
LOVE THIS CLASS!!! he is very helpful and willing to help you if you need help. the class is not hard or easy, just do all your work and you will get a A..
Extremely willing to help his students. Encourages questions and is very descriptor with every lesson. His animation keeps the class exciting and his passion for the subject makes even the least interested student excited to go to his class. Overall a fenominal teacher.
Great class. Not the easiest i've taken but I learned a lot, the teacher actually wants to be there, and the material is interesting. I recommend to anyone who needs a science course.
Well if the students get some extra help of points from extra curriculum activities, then getting an A should not be a problem in his class.
class is great!the professor is very helpful and knowledgable on the subject.his acent is a little hard to understand.
Amazing professor with a passion for the subject. He wants to be there and really passes that love onto his students. His accent can be hard to understand but he works to help you understand him. Easy to pass his class as long as you are willing to put the time and effort in. Over all, a great class.
Great Professor, really knows his material. There are Powerpoint's for the lectures, so its easy to follow along when he's teaching. Slight accent, but not difficult to understand. Labs are easy if you pay attention. Overall fun teacher. :) He grades fairly, if you put in the work you will definitely get the grade you deserve!
I really enjoyed the class. Nothing in the class is very difficult as long as you study and pay attention. He does want you to have your books tho, so don't skimp on that. The only complaint I have is that we spent a lot of time learning about igneous rocks and we kind of breezed through the other two kinds. But overall, great class!
He is a great professor. Keep deep attention to his powerpoint slides and his lecture. Lab is very important. being in class from the start till the end is also important. Attendance is mandatory. He wants us to learn things not just take the quizzes and exams. If you study for the materials, he provides, you will definitely get an A.
This is an awsome professor. He knows his subject more than anything else. Very helpful with labs, but no extra credits! You have to earn your grade. He grades fairly too. If you work hard enough, you will make an 'A' in his class.
A phenomenal professor with great passion for geology. He knows his stuff and grades fairly. Attendance is mandatory so be in class in time. If you pay attention, you must make an A. I highly recommend him.
Very smart and intelligent professor. He knows a lot of geology. Take his class if you're interested in knwing geology. He grades fairly too but no extra credit. eran your grade.
Outstanding professor with great passion for geology. You will learn a lot in his class. He is more interested in us knowing geology than just coming to class for grade. If you prove to him that you know some geology, you will pass. In fact, his grading in very fair. You will know your grade before the end of the semester. No kidding.
You can't go wrong with this professor. Firslty, he knows geology a lot. His class is very interesting. He helps a lot during labs. No extra credit.:)But you can make an A if you work hard. He grades very fairly.
I took both of his Geology classes and had no trouble. Some people struggled because they never read the textbook and only relied on the lecture slides. He often provides multiple examples (diagrams, videos, real-world comparisons) to help students understand a concept. If you don't pass it's because you didn't put it the effort. A's aren't free.
I loved Okia! He has an awesome accent and is so funny! He makes sure you get what your supposed to learn and doesn't mind debate, as long as you know what your talking about.
He takes his course too seriously - like he believes everyone in class is dying to become geologists. Hardest class I've ever taken and I hated the professors personality. If you aren't good at science, take someone else. Trust me.
I took his summer class as a 6 week class. I recommend him to anyone taking geology because he is great. He really thoroughly explains the material during his lectures by using power points. He makes sure the class understands the material by asking questions. During labs he also explains clearly what the lab is about and how to do it. Great Pr!
He is a nice professor. Very enthusiastic about what he does. I learnt a lot from his class. He is more interested in us learning the materials than just asking for extra credit. I would take him again and again.
He is really knowledgeable and his passion for Geology shows. However, it took me half a semester to get used to his accent, so don't expect to pass your midterm with flying colors. His test are fair to hard. You have to study your butt off to get a decent grade, so you have been warned! Textbook is terrible; I stopped reading it after a while.
This professor is incredibly interesting. He really knows exactly what he's talking about, and he gives very detailed lectures. Attendance is counted for a grade, so you have to show up. The lectures aren't hard to sit through, and he always finishes early. He answers every question, but sometimes he's a bit condescending. Overall, I recommend him.
Great teacher. He is very helpful and is thorough in understanding and relaying the information. Attendance is mandatory but you won't want to miss a class. He is difficult to understand at first, but the accent grows on you. He is willing to help you, encourages questions and answers until you completely understand. I enjoyed this class!
If someone wants to know about the geology, please do not take class with this instructor. First, it is very hard to understand his accent. Second,he is just teaching from powerpoint slides where you can study them at home.Lastly, you wouldn't learn much from lab work because it is a group project and just wasting the entire class time.
This guy is a bit of a geology genius! He answers every question completely. He uses different real life analogies to explain concepts until you understand. Again, the way he handles math problems without a calculator fascinates me. Attendance has some grades so be in class always. He grades fairly. No surprises. I am taking him for gol 105.
He is a great professor with deep passion for geology. This guy is a bit of a geology genius! He answers every question completely, using different analogies to explain concepts until you understand. The way he handles math problems without a calculator fascinates me. Attendance has some grades. He grades fairly too. I am taking him for gol 105.
He definitely knows A LOT about geology and I respect him for that. However he was very rude at times to people in the class, even those who did not speak English well. He picked on the girls a lot. -On a good note he drops a lot of grades and that helped me a lot, I was very grateful! Not the best, but could be worse.
I'm doing prof Okia's GOL 106 now, and his passion for the subject shows. Very intelligent guy. At times, I wonder how he acquired a lot of knowledge, considering that he looks young. He answers questions compeletely, with multiple examples, to make you understand. Attendance is compulsory. Overall, he's a cool teacher.
I took professor Okia's class at a friend's recommendation, and was thrilled by his wealth of knowledge. He's very versatile. First, he answers every question completely, using multiple examples to make even the dumbest student understand. Very helpful during lectures and labs. Attendance is graded too. Over all, a great prof.
I hated this class and I used to love geology. i hated every moment in this class room it was boring, and not useful. this professor is unbelievably condescending and makes you feel stupid. he never answers questions correctly and gives multiple unnecessary examples that hardly relate to the question asked. dont take his class.
This class is one of my best. The professor is very smart and knows exactly what he's teaching. Attendance is mandatory, so don't skip that. Keep deep attention to his lectures and you'll definitely do well. The students that struggle are those that are not regular in class. Over all, and awesome professor. I highly recommend him.
Prof. Okia's passion for geology shows from day one, and I learnt a lot from him. The class is neither easy nor difficult. It depends on the effort you put in. My advice is: be in class always and ask him questions. He answers question completely and with mutiple examples to me you understand. He grades fairly too. I will take him again in GOL 106
This guy is very intelligent. He knows a whole lot about geology and his passion for teaching shows. He enjoys himself while talking about geologic concepts, and I like him for that. In fact,in my own opinion, you can't fail his class if you pay attention. He is an awesome professor. This class is not for slackers, though.
Awesome guy. Can be funny at times. Class was absolutely nice. He explains geology in a way everybody understands. He uses multiple real life examples in conveyinhis ideas to students. I loved this class.
Prof. Okia is quite smart and know a whole lot about geology. He is passionate about geology. I think his class is definitely not for slackers. But if you want to know some geology, take him. Trust me, he's good at what he does
This class wasn't the easiest and I had to study for it but the professor is very helpful in explaining the information. I received an A but you have about 12 labs but he takes your best 10, attendance is mandatory and the mid term was easier than I had thought it would be but it was a good class I would take it again if I could.
He is the nicest guy in the world! He doesn't like to fail anybody as long as you show up to class and participate. Do well in the labs and it doesn't matter if you fail the finals. All it is are labs and 2 finals and the labs are easy.
TAKE THIS CLASS! This Professor is awesome. The subject matter is dry, however he makes it easy to understand. If you just try, you will pass this course. Ask, questions and he will take care of his students. He is understanding and looking out for the success of his students. GREAT Professor.
I left this class feeling so happy that I took it with prof Okia. Very funny guy and understanding. He's there to help you. Come to class, pay deep attention to his lectures, ask questions, and you will be okay. He gives extra credit for attendance, so show up and earn those free points. Over all, a phenominal teacher.
Decent teacher, and very passionate about geology. However, he has two sides. One is a happy go lucky geologist, the other is a cocky condescending jerk. He also used to make smart remarks about Americans. One of the labs req. Algebra, but half the class couldnt do it. He said that the only time americans enjoy math is when they count money.....
This professor makes you see that geology is more than study-of-rocks. He ties the subject matter with real life events and I am liking geology because of the he teaches. He is nice and he cares about his students. Take him, you won't regret it.
Prof Okia is a nice teacher. He's so passionate about geology and is always there to help. Pay attention in class and you'll pass. He grades fairly too.
Practically no homework, so make sure you study for the Exams. But definitely one of my favorite professors.
This professor makes you like geology. He has a way of teaching that makes everybody to understand. Not an easy class but you will pass if you put in some efforts. Very helpful guy.
Had him for GOL 105. Wasn't sure what to make of geology but this man is so passionate about it. He is engaging, interesting, extremely funny, and playful sometimes. He is young too which helps. Tests and material can difficult especially if you aren't technically inclined & accent can be hard to follow. Stop reading and just take him NOW! Do it.
He is very enthusiastic about Geology. Some days he is very nice, others he is not. His bad moods manifest in rude comments to his students. He has the ability to turn you off of Geology with his bad attitude. A student asked a question about Mt. Vesuvius and he didn't even know it existed. Very arrogant man. Doesn't like when people take notes.
Had him for GOL 105. He was quite exceptional. His passion for geology shows from day one. This is neither an easy nor a tough class, but making A grade is easy if you pay attention in class. He's one of my best professors because he wants us to learn.
Uses the full class just about every lecture. Labs are quick and easy. Assigns weekly textbook readings. Grades on group labs, mid/final exam, and attendance.
Prof Okia genuinely wants his students to make an A in his class. He provides clear lectures with available slideshows to you on BB. 2 Quizzes, midterm, and final; labs are 40%. He keeps the class moving and exciting. Even if you are not interested in geology, he keeps your attention. His accent is heavy, but did not affect inability to learn.
Awesome professor and passionate about what he does. Cares so much about his students. Participation matters, so show up in class everyday. Overall, a great class!!
Okia is more passionate about Geology and learning than any other teacher I have ever met. He wants his students to be smart and successful. If I could take Okia for other subjects I would. I highly recommend Professor Okia.
Nicest prof i've ever had. He cares so much about his students learning the materials and he is very helpful during labs. I will take him again for gol 106.
Great professor, very passionate about what he teaches. The accent is a bit difficult to understand at first, but you get used to it. Lectures can last a very long time because he's a big fan of analogies, but they do help. Overall great professor.
Not for everyone, but he is passionate about Geology. I enjoyed his lectures, because he gives anecdotes that makes it easier to understand. He can be impatient and sometimes rude but he is also kind if you're respectful. DON'T USE CELLPHONES! Very hard grader, hard tests, but easy to manage if you study EVERYTHING in detail. READ THE TEXTBOOK!
He's a fabulous guy. Very friendly and willing to help his students succeed. This class, however, is not for slackers but he can be very accommodating if you put in some efforts. One of my best profs.
You can't fail his class if you put in some effort. He's so passionate about geology, and he genuinely wants his students to make "A" in his class. Take him, you won't regret this class.
This prof is the nicest teacher I have ever met. He cares so much about his students. He is more interested in us knowing the materials than just do quizzes and exams. I highly recommend him.
Professor Ikwuazorm is a fantastic professor. He does have a heavy accent (just ask and he will clarify what he is trying to say). He is very passionate and knowledgeable about Geology. He uses a lot of visual aids to assist his great lectures. The labs are very fun (looking at rocks, minerals, and Geological scenarios). I would take him again.
He's an awesome professor. Very enthusiastic about teaching, and always there for his students. You will be happy taking his class.
His lectures were pretty long but he did always tell amusing anecdotes between each topic to keep people's attention. Attendance and homework was the extra credit, so very easy way to bump your grade a bit. Appeared to be hard on students but he really wants his students to do their best in his class.
His lectures were long, but he did always tell amusing anecdotes between each topic. The lectures are not boring. He Appeared to be hard on students but he really wants his students to do their best in his class. I have not met any professors like him. He tells it like it is and that helped me to grow as a person. He has passion for teaching.
I took him for GOL 105 and did not hesitate to do GOL 106 with him. In all, he is an awesome teacher. He challenges his students to think outside the box. Very passionate about teaching. He has a way of pushing students to be the best the could be and I like him for that. He has accent but that is not a problem. Take him. You won't regret it.
Prof Okia is the nicest professor I have ever met. His passion to teaching shows everyday and he knows his stuff. The class can be an easy A if you pay attention in class and read his slides well. The labs are so easy and he made us work in groups. He is very helpful outside class too. I like him.
This guy is passionate about geology and his passion shows from day one. You cannot fail this class if you put in some effort. The labs are super easy because we work in groups. He gives quick feedback and the lectures are interesting, with breaks in between.
He makes this class much harder then it should be. I would honestly not take his class ever again. He has moments where he seems cool but he'll randomly start going on rants. If you take his class be ready for extremely hard test. Also he says he gives extra credit but in reality its not extra credit it's just a extra grade.
This class was not hard. 10 labs, 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and 50 points extra credit. The extra credit bumped me from B to A. The lab is group work which makes it super easy. He knows geology and it shows from day one. Some students struggle because they dont put in the effort. Attendance matters too.
Prof Okia is a one of my best profs at nova. Hes passionate about geology and wants us to learn. This class is just not for slackers so you should be a college student and do some work. Overall, it was a nice class.
Hes a nice professor. No doubts about that. However, he wants us to learn and he teaches geology well. Pay attention during lectures because he mentions the things that will come out in exam and quiz so that helped me a lot. I enjoyed the class.
He is an average professor. He's okay at explaining certain things to students. He rants for what seems like forever and he picks on students . If he call on you and you don't know the answer, instead of moving on he will ask you why you don't know the answer and stay on you and go into a rant about students not knowing the material.
Professor Okia was the best. He engages students and makes geology the most interesting thing in the world, He also inspires students to work hard not only in school, but in life. His lectures are clear, and his tests are straight from the notes, but youre going to want to read to secure an A. Take him and you won't be disappointed, he's a gem!
He's a caring professor. He responds to emails in few hours which is very nice. The class is neither tough nor easy; however, if you make some effort, you can make an A. He tells it as it is, and I like him for that. He inspired me a lot. In summary, if you care to learn geology, he's the man. If you're a slacker, then it won't work.
Prof Okia is a nice teacher and his knowledge of geology shows from day one. He knows his stuff. More importantly, he wants his students to learn and be knowledgeable, and I like him for that. 12 labs (he drops the worst 2 labs), 2 quizzes, 2 exams, and 50 points extra credit. If you make some effort, you'll make an A.
Highly recommend this professor, so much that i'm taking my next semester GOL class with him.
Excellent professor. He knows his subject and can discuss a wide range of topics in science. He cares so much about us gaining knowledge and passing the class. Take him. you won't regret it.
I took GOL-105 with Prof. Ikwuazorm and was blown away with how much he made the class enjoyable. He is great at explaining topics, and encourages students to ask questions and be proactive. There is little homework (mostly pre-reading), but you must have a copy of the lab manual. I wish I could take his GOL-106 class but unfortunately I cannot.
Usually starts out the class very dull but as he gets into the material he gets really excited and funny because he is super passionate about Geology. Great guy.
Professor Ikwuazorm's lectures are interactive, positive, & social. He's exceptionally talented at explaining things creatively/metaphorically, and uses it to make you think. Important advice: Don't be afraid to be wrong, and take an hour or two to study for each test before class if you want an A.
Overall, Professor Ikwuazorm is a great geology teacher and I would recommend him to anyone who needs Geology for credit or for personal interests. He is very passionate about teaching and is very knowledgable regarding the topics that are studied in this course. His exams are not very difficult as long as you attend class, pay attention and study.
He has a very clear and understanding grading system. His knowledge of the subject is impeccable. His tests are practically like the notes, but you still need to study. He would offer extra credit at the end of the semester that could change your grade entirely. Labs are fine so long as your lab group is good. I would take again
I really recommend taking a class with professor Ikuwuazorm. His lectures and lab briefings were really helpful and you could tell he cares that his students get something out of the class. His exams were just like what he taught us in class and he usually told you what to pay attention to in order to pass quizzes and exams. Great professor!!
Overall great professor. Tough grader, and gives lots of labs.
Professor Okia is genuinely a bad teacher, nooffense. He doesn't explain lab very well, very difficult to understand, treats students with temper, and due to his bad explanations, students tend to do badly in the lab. As for the pros, he is great with recording classes, has great slides, teaches with passion, and wants the topic to be learned well.
Great lecturer I love him
Professor Ikwuazorms class really frustrated me this semester. I felt that there were way too many assignments each week, and the points for each assignment were all over the place (some were worth as much as the group project). I did all the assignments and only got a C for the class. Do not take this class unless you like geology.
Prof. Ikwuazorm is very knowledgeable and passionate about geology but assigns way too many things each week, does not clearly explain labs, and has a bit of an attitude. Decent professor but it was difficult completing assignments without having to go back and rewatch lecture/lab recordings.
online, Professor did not answer questions in the "Ask professor" field and then removed the questions that were asked. Seems irritated and rushed when asked I for extra help. Told to talk to IT help for question, feel that if he had helped when asked I would have done better in this class. I feel disappointed after reading other reviews
This Professor was my hardest professor this semester, he hardly answered questions when asked. He would get annoyed if no one answered his questions, very sensitive and would address you in the middle of lecture. I wouldn't recommend him and you looking for a science course.
Honestly overall he is a good professor, You are assigned 12 labs over the semester and he drops the lowest two labs. He also has 2 Quizzes and a couple of assignments (mini quizzes). Uses lockdown browser with camera for Quizzes, Midterm, and Final. Easy B class.
Worst class ever. Im not going to say hes the worst teacher because I dont want to attack his character. This class is HARD, YOU HEAR ME?, HARD. DO NOT TAKE IF YOU JUST NEED A CREDIT. ONLY TAKE THIS IF YOU WANT A PH.D. IN GEOLOGY.
This teacher is unaccessible. This is an online class and he gives you absolutely no way to contact him except through email and that he doesn't respond to. He sets the system up so you cannot contact him anyway through the Nova System aswell. And the best part is when canvas doesn't work he doesn't care and gives you no help or reply.
He grades based on his subjective opinion (even though it's a science class) and will purposefully deduct points if he sees your grade is too high. For example, on one of the labs I submitted he wrote "You did not have enough justification in your conclusion". Does not respond to emails in a timely manner either.
In my opinion, this Professor is just okay. He is nice, but his mood swings from happy to angry, and he treats his students harshly. This class is neither good nor bad in my opinion. His accent is difficult to understand. The lab work is kinda huge, difficult at times, and time-consuming. You also have to remember a lot for his quizzes and exams.
Prof Okia's class was very interesting and he engaged us during lectures and lab. He drop 2 lowest labs and uses the best 10. He gives some take home assignments you do at your own time. He is very knowledgeable about geology and he teaches with passion. Will take him again!
very tough grader, with terrible communication skills. does not matter if you went to the hospital or even have a note to prove you were there, your assignment matters more than you are apparently. If you do not submit it on time, he will not reopen it for you, He will not help you with your grade I suggest looking for another teacher.
