Tests have like 5 questions which makes it easier for you to fail. He calls you out during class and replies rudely. He doesn't answer your questions if you ask something more than once and makes an attitude. He has the potential to be good if he tries to be a little nicer and good hearted. All the best to him. I wouldn't take this class again.

A failed professor at its best. He cant teach math at all, called himself the laziest professor and says a lot about his failed strangest as a professor. Textbook is complete garbage, 5 exams which have 6-7 questions each, making it hard enough already. Literally writes a copy of the textbook on the board. Need textbook to do hw, AVOID FOREVER.

He brags about how many students fail his class, its very concerning. The first day I walk into class and he starts scaring us and tells us well fail if we dont study at least 10 hours a week. He screamed at me for asking a question now I dont even bother asking. Attendance isnt mandatory and he doesnt care if you do the homework .only tests

Professor pastore is a great lecture teacher, explains the material very well. His exams however are a big issue, being that theyre 100% of your grade. Even if you know the topic well, keep studying. Those exams are ridiculously difficult. I had a tutor look at it and he said that level of difficulty is for students earning a masters in math.

Worst professor I've ever taken. His tests are nothing like his lectures. Gives tons of homework. Never really answers the questions you have just tell you to solve them on your own. The examples he does in class are the easiest one but the questions he gives for homework are nothing like them. Don't take him if you're an average math student.

WORST PROFESSOR IN QC !!! AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS. He doesn't know how to teach , rushes through material , thinks that he's the best at teaching but in reality he's the worst. He keeps mentioning how his students are failing all the time. His exams are insane . He doesn't even spend more than 5 min going over your questions .

The professor expects you to implement harder methods than it should in a calculus class. I took calculus in my senior year of high school, with the exact same content and it was way easier. He expects you to only use his method, or no method at all. He is also a really harsh grader, and sometimes would not be too clear in his explanations.

This Professor is an extremely harsh grader. He gives lots of HW that is not similar to the exam. Inconsiderate to the students and gives little leeway for grading. Even if you get the question right you will get no credit. I never got lower than an A and I failed his class. strongly suggested you DO NOT TAKE HIM.

As others have said - he is Inconsiderate, and confusing. I never struggled to understand a professor more. He may love math, but not everybody who loves math should teach it. Avoid at all cost

One of the worst math professors I have ever had. The entire grade is the midterm, final, and 2 take-home problem sets. Hated every minute of it. Diminished my mental health. I took calc in high school but his level is crazy difficult. He grades so harshly so don't expect to do well unless u do everything the way he likes. Transfer out.

Horrible - if you dont solve problems the way he wants you get no credit which is crazy! Years of being told you can solve math problems different ways and encouraged to do that, and now I get correct answers a different way from his way and get nothing for it.

your average would be based entirely on a few problem sets and tests, that's it. he also grades harshly, barely gives partial credits. gives tons of homework that he won't even check. my overall experience with him is -1000/10

Oh boy. If you even THINK about taking this guy, please don't. I can tell he is very passionate about calculus but not very passionate about empathizing with students at all. He expects you to do things **exactly** as he shows in class even if a method you found online works just as well. If you're a masochist, go ahead and take this class.

i should have never taken this class. pastore makes calc unnecessarily hard. this professor is so anal and not helpful at all. doesnt give partial credit, things have to be done his way. no matter how knowledgeable he might be in math, this guy should not be teaching. makes you keep a camera on when its against CUNY policy to do so.

DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE! I've experienced a tremendous amount of anxiety because of this teacher. Calculus is not very difficult, but Professor Pastore makes it unecessarily difficult, making sure each and every question is answered HIS way, even if the answer is correct. There are only 4 total graded assignments, and studying does not help.

He supposedly curves the final average gives back points on assessments if you discuss with him, and can be understanding at times. But he grades so harshly, where you may not receive any partial credit. He gave graded work on newton's method (not taught in 151 or earlier) and proceeded to grade it harshly too. I have never struggled in calc before

Its calc1 he tries to make it seem like its nuclear physics and its suppose to hard, but in reality he makes it hard for no reason his methods are redundant and outdated.

Professor Pastore was the worst professor I've ever had. The grading criteria is completely unfair. He is a really harsh grader... he gives 0 credit to answers that are correct but not derived "his way". On top of that,the exams did not match HWdifficulty. The class began with 35 students, ended with 6. Want to pass? Don't take the class. #ANXIETY

I agree with all the recent reviews: does not give you credit for questions you get right if it not "his way", you have to show ALL your work the way he wants you to OR no credit. I was always an A+ math student, I never struggled understanding math. Skipped simple steps and got me Fs on the test. Takes unnecessary points off. DONT EVER TAKE HIM!

Definitely dont take this class with Professor Pastore. I had a great experience my second go around with Ovchinnikov who is excellent at explaining and is fair with grading exam. Avoid the headache!

He does not grade fairly; if there is one error, you lose full credit. He is not clear about curving grades, so even if the entire class does poorly, he is not afraid to fail the entire class and seem blind to the fact that he might be the flaw, not the students. I would not recommend, and I think his position should be reconsidered.

I have never been so frustrated and angry with a teacher or professor before. We need to complain to the math department and not just post complaints here.

Show up and actually do your best work and you should be fine said no students after taking this class. Im retaking this class with Professor Ovchinnikov who seems to respect his students. I should have checked here before registering last semester.

Seems like he intentionally rushes through material because he knows we dont understand how he is explaining the material. He also seems to enjoy mentioning how his students are failing all the time. Im not sure why he says this with pride, he is incredibly discouraging and arrogant.

I had a very stressful and bad experience with Professor Pastore and it is not because I wasnt putting in the time or effort. I paid for this class and regret it.

He makes 151 harder than it has to be for no reason. Plus on his tests there's literally nothing from the lectures. And he has this ego for no reason like if you ask a simple question he would rather take the time to mock you instead of answering the question. I was struggling so much I paid for a private tutor who actually made more sense and took the time to explain concepts better. You should consider this if you take this class.

By all means do yourself the favor of avoiding him by all means. Fast pace doesn't slow down. Do not ask questions or you will be talked down to and he gets irritated easily. Exams do not follow your HW assignments. Everyone in class is afraid to ask questions, because of his attitude and teaching style. Hard to learn in his environment.

Took him Fall 2019. Not a good teacher. 13/34 students remained after the withdrawal date. 9 students remained on the day of the final. I'm about to graduate with a BA in CS and this guy was the hardest teacher out of all classes. I've heard stories about getting an A, but they definitely had it easier. Hope you got the easier class.

Hardest and most unfair professor in QC. Took 2 classes and dropped him in favor of another professor asap and my friend in his class says that he is overwhelmed by the amount of work he has to do. Do yourself a favor and avoid like the plague, all the rest are better. Also his anti cheating methods borders on invasion of privacy.

This was the start of my own downfall in mathematics. I was pretty competent with my math skills, just do the work and you'll be fine. The problem with Pastore is that even if you do the work and I mean the work he assigns, you won't be prepared for any of the exams he gives out. I had to retake the 141 several times but he was the hardest. Beware

I had to take his class because of my schedule, which I knew would be a big mistake and it was. If you take his class be prepared to take it again next semester with a different professor

Unfair grading and poor attitude towards struggling students .

I had a terrible experience with this professor. If you take him your best bet is to hire a tutor and keep your mouth shut in class.

Worst professor ever. Forces you to have zoom camera on. Alot of homework assigned on web assign. can't do this anymore.

The homeworks are extremely heavy. You will have to spend hours and hours trying to complete them. For online classes, cameras must be turned on. If not, you will be kicked out. If late, he will not let you in to zoom meetings. HE IS VERY VERY TOUGH GRADER. You will not get a partial credit for anything. The answers must be correct to the core.

This professor is nuts. Freaking give three homework assignments due on the same day. Unbelievable. Homeworks take time to do. He is unfair. Forces you to have your camera on. Do not take this professor, even if you feel like you need it due to scheduling. Homework is worth 5% yet it takes hours to complete, it is very extensive work and should be worth more. Camera must be on at all times or he calls you out on it. Does not record lectures. No exceptions or extensions. He also does not teach material well.

Professor Pastore was hands down the words teacher I ever had. He took off random points on tests and would not explain why. Even if two people had identical answers he would give them different amounts of points because he has no grading system. He does not answer his email, and when he does he is rude. Avoid him at all costs. If he is the only professor left for the semester then take the semester off and try to find a different professor for the next semester. This class seriously tanked my gpa. Spent several hours on his homework assignments and they were due in such a short amount of time. His only good reviews were probably written by him.

I hate this professor with all my heart. Please save yourself form taking his classes, he shows no mercy when it comes to grading tests.

He assigns 2-3 homework assignments a week that range between 15-25 questions each yet homework is only 5% of the final grade. Claims the quizzes and exams are based on the homework but its completely bs because the questions/problems he writes are way more complicated than the homework. So where should I even start? homeworks take hours to complete yet counts as basically nothing. This is the absolute worst professor to ever be hired at QC. Do not be fooled by his lenient syllabus, he only lets you drop midterm and quiz grades because his retention rate is so low. His tests are a nightmare, if you don't answer a question how he wants it then you get 0 credit even if you answer correctly. Steer clear! Find a different prof!
