tests hard as hell
the tests are really hard & he wants to help but it doesnt

HARD TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the **** gave me a C -, so i had to take the damn class again
No Comments
learn macro or do not pass, not a blow off class, good class website with exams
He helped me outside of class. The class is not too hard.I got an A on all exam
He's good, but a little boring :)
Best teacher I had at towson.
didn't read the book, passed exams, exempt from final. others did very bad
2nd time I took macro, this time got a B
he really likes half the class at random. the other half is s.o.l.
horrible professor, hard tests, not helpful at all
No Comments
horrible teacher, horrible class, don't ever take a class with him
No Comments
boring..all he does is lecture. analogies suck! hand cramps.
great guy
this is the worst class dont take it
hard material but he is very helpfull and easy to understand based on 4 tests
check out his old exams on-line
All overheads, previous tests are online, not helpful though....
HE IS THE WORST. DROP HIM AND DROP HIM FAST.
just take note that you will past easly
all overheads . . . big classes . . . zero clarity
No Comments
Decent prof, but not the nicest fellow. A jerk most of the time, but tolerable. Lets you e-mail homework, drops final exam on individual basis if you're getting an A.
Hard tests, boring class.
Class requires a lot of note taking! His test are moderately hard.
he is a good teacher and you can tell her loves econ. but it is very hard B
Hes a very nive guy- college kid at heart- learned a lot for a tough class- take this class if u need it for your Gen Ed requirement
all overheads, past exams on his website, class is bearable if you read, take notes, and study. he is a jerk most of the time and gets pleasure out of failing people.
Just go to class and take notes, all of his notes is overhead, Don't need to study and Don't need to read, but before any exam just take his OLD EXAM. After talking his OLD EXAM, easy Solid B. REMEMBER TAKE HIS OLD EXAM.
This guy is a brain.
Good web site, hard exam questions
Has good class website with prior exams and answers. Definitely take his prior semester exams.
gives you opportunity to pass, but you need to study
good guy, but no slide
Very tough, always reminding you of his PhD. If you go to class and take previous exams online, solid B. He is a horny old man type though, so flirt girls!
look at his old exams and study hard. gives break on final exam if you do well.
Teaches off the overhead and follows the book. Study for his exams, he puts old ones up on his website for everyone to look at. Has a very dry sense of humor and a weird laugh, likes to tell stories. Nice guy, seems bitter about something tho.
Horribly boring class. DO NOT TAKE unless you have to. Strange guy with extremely hard tests...tries to trick you with 2 or three answers that COULD be right
Okay Teacher, extremely helpful if you ask for it. He became real annoying when he keeps asking us to "think" instead of memorize 10x per class period.
hard tests, but posts old ones online. if you need to really know macro, take him and show up to every class...its hard, but you dod learn alot
Take this class if you're are willing to read the book and always attend class, it will be very easy if you keep up and very hard if you fall behind, i thought this was a good class and i learned a lot.
Extensive notes. He says "Basically" a lot. Easy exams, all of them multiple choice and he even has practice exams up on his website from other semesters. Definitely reccommended for a GenEd class
Boring & unhelpful. Says "basically" a lot; kid in class counted 165 in 1 class. Not excited in what he teaches, & completely keeps you from having a positive outlook on the class. Calculates stats about test scores more than he teaches.
I hate this man he is a terrible teacher all he uses is the overhead, late to every class, and a royal ****! If you want to do well look at his previous tests, go to every class, and read the book, thats the only way to do well in his class.

Great teacher. Grade is based on 4 exams and a few short homework assignments. The tests are something you really have to study hard for. Good teacher, and always has funny tidbits of information during class :)
This man needs to get fired and never ever get offered another teaching job.
He is very knowledgeable but he uses entirely too much material and it is hard to follow. He's not very nice either :(
Be ready to become a Writing Machine cause you have to write everything he puts on the overhead....strangely funny, hard and long exams, make sure you go to class and take his practice tests(online) so you can get a decent grade.
worst class every!! do not take it!
If you get him, forget about taking Economics all together. He's old, has a VERY dry sense of humor, thinks hes real funny..when NO ONE else is laughing. EXTREMELY difficult, Exams are impossible. My hand is prob gonna fall off after taking this class from all the note taking.
worst class....tests are hard as hell!!!half the class fails and he isnt very helpful. lectures are done by over head projectures.
Very confusing. Tests are hard, you have to study for hours to be able to at least pass with a C. Tries his best to be nice and helpful, just an overall poorly taught class.
Is a nice guy and does make you take extensive notes during the lecture. Is willing to help you during office hours. Never read book, just did a few practice exams before each test (that he posts online). Overall not that bad, just study. Even made the final worth 60% if it would help you out.
One of the best professors the ECON department has to offer. I went to almost every class, took a few notes, took all of his past tests that he posted online, and I got an A and was exempt from the final. I was one of the 4 people to do this out of his 60 students. The rest of them probably all hated him.
I could probably teach you macroeconomics in 3 and a half minutes...if you ****s knew calculus. I also probably know more about bankruptcy than all the lawyers in Maryland put together. Pomykala is also my favorite Towson teacher ever, but it is almost guaranteed that he will hate you.
I recommend you don't take this class. He is inconsiderate, when students get bad grades on exams he calls them "monkeys", and he keeps telling stories about how some of his students were really stupid.Interested in getting a PHD? thats how youll feel when you take his exams.
He constantly goes off on tangents so you don't know what he is talking about. Amazingly he used the same example throughout the whole semester even in chapters that were complete opposites (if I have money I am going to have steak tonight, if I don't than I'm going to eat PB & J) Don't take him.
The book is somewhat boring, but he explains it well if you aren't intimidated by his use of econ vocab, like most are. You learn alot, and you need to cover alot of material and vocab, but if you take his online tests you'll be fine. His tests are almost completely identical. Visit his site often.
Worst class I've ever taken. His tests are impossible no matter how long you study. I almost failed this class and it made me completely change my major. All you do in class it takes notes until your hand cramps. The notes don't even help. To add to that, it's incredibly boring.
Class is sooo boring, hes monotone, I had to withdrawl, test are terribly impossible, I have to take this class for my major but I will take it again with a different teacher, would never ever want to have him again. I tried to go for help and he didn't help one bit, I left even more confused.
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!
Ok-Bad professor- Prior to taking this class I felt like I understood ECON- He is an awful, confusing teacher that made fun of students who didn't understand his scribble on the projector. Also refused to help students understand material. Take this class and you will be confused and hate the transparencies!!
My first Econ class ever. I truthfully enjoy the material and the way he teaches it. He applies the material to everyday life and is an extremely intelligent guy. Posts prior exams from past years on website with answers which are almost identical to what you will be taking.
He's a very intellegent guy. Gives lectures, expects people to copy notes (good idea to do so), and gives pretty good examples. If you don't pay attention in class you will probobly do poorly on the exams. Copy Notes, try to understand, Read the book if you don't understand the notes, and deffinately take the practice tests online!!!
he thinks everyone is going to be an econ major
No Comments
he tells you the first day of class that 25% of people will fail his first exam - he's telling the truth. lots of people drop his class. his exams aren't as hard as he makes them out to be, study and you'll do fine. he's not great but he's not horrible. take micro before you take macro if you can.
this is a tough class but he puts prior exams online with answers, very helpful. answers questions and tries to make material understandable, and wants everyone to understand and do good in his class. great class and great professor.
extremely boring, gives a massive amount of notes on an over head, 3 hard exams, posts prior exams online which help, not an impossible class but you learn to dread going which makes it easy to fall behind
Hands down one of the best professors I ever had, not to mention his various outside interests/tangents that he interwove within the lecture, and always with the pretense "not on the exam".
Boring teacher....speaks with a monotone and a half....but posts tests on line which is very helpful....Tests are tricky as anwsers are usually between two very close choices.....wouldnt recommend him, but not the end of the world if you get him
Worst professor / class ever..not everyone in the world likes econ as much as him, yet he feels we do. Extremely hard tests, only about 3 people in my class got A's. Take someone else at all costs, unless you're a genious. And dont try and cheat!!!!

difficult, lost of notes, but helpful if you need it. fair...
Very knowledgeable and teaches like a text book. Nice and helpful but tried to meet up with him to ask him some questions and his office and he stood me up. Has previous exams and if you study those before the exam and go over notes than your pretty much set.
Really cool teacher! Some material gets confusing, but if you study the notes you'll do good. Doesn't care if you come to class! If you get A's on all of the three tests, he gives you and automatic A and you don't have to take the final! Willing to help you if you need it. Good class
Not a very good teacher. Talks a lot but it always seems to be about the same subject. Tests are very hard and he has a lot of stupid statistics that he makes up about how people that show up to class get better exam grades but he doesnt even take attendance. Gives curves on some of the test but at the most you will get 5%. Dont take.
I have no idea what these people are talking about. Pomykala represents one of the few good profs out there, he teaches it like it should be taught. Guess what guys? college is supposed to be hard, if you don't like it then get an associates degree at your local communicy college. Took him for 2 classes and got an A for both. Not hard if you work
he is boring no doubt and you must go to class and have to take notes . i would suggest reading the chapter before hoe goes over it in class , but he is willing to help you. although i would not take him again
Very good economics teacher. Reviews at the beginning of every class. Clear and wants you to learn and understand. Tries to relate with plenty of examples with beer and test answers are funny (involving beer). Turned my test in one time and he said "its miller time". Very dry guy but somehow very funny at times. I liked him a lot. Highly rec
Easy class! You copy down notes from the overheard EVERY class period. 3 HW assignments total, 1 before each test. They only help you. His previous tests from other years are on his website and they are IDENTICAL to the tests you take. If you can memorize answers on his old tests, then it'd a piece of cake to get at least a B. never used my notes
If you goto class, take notes, do the three homeworks the entire semester, and do the 2-3 practice tests he provides for you, its an easy B+ A-, I recommend taking Microeconomics first though just because of the subject. He's a good straight forward teacher, and a fair one.
My first Econ Class. Mono-tone, boring man, found myself watching movies in his class. Stupid examples and just straight up boring. Definitely do no recommend this man. GET OUT IF YOUR IN!!!
Joe is a good guy that knows a lot about economics. The key to getting an A in his class is making sure you attend class even though he makes it clear you dont have to. even if you dont take notes just showing up will help. theres no hw and just 4 tests. this makes it difficult if you fail one but just study hard for each one and youll get an A.
smartest teach Ive ever had at towson.has a phd from wharton school of biz at UPENN, best business school in the country for those who care.maybe thats why he has high expectations. dont take him unless you want to work hardif you work hard you will take away a ton of valuable information from his class.Def recommend him if you are willing to work
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. Was in large class, never collected homework. Over 60% of class failed 2/3 exams and he blamed us. Always tells you to take test online, they are nothing like the test you are going to get. Unless you are amazing at Econ, DO NOT TAKE. FRESHMAN - AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Nice, smart guy ...Lame useless teacher. Barely Passable
not the easiest professor, but if your an econ major or minor i recommend him, but take microeconomics first since half of every macro class is just relearning micro material. Tests and notes are straight forward and he gives you previous tests that are really helpful
he is not that bad!very nice person and help student a lot!
he is a nice guy but the class is impossible. on the first exam i thought i did very well and i actually got like a 45%. once you fail one exam it is so hard to bring your grade up i ended up just giving up on the class and i stopped going. i would not reccommend him unless you already have an interest in econ.
Great prof! He really wants students to understand, not memorize, and he loves the subject. Not the easiest class, and attendance isn't mandatory, but taken for stats., you should go and get the notes. He really likes it when you ask questions, willing to help outside of class. I recommend!
Very smart guy. Talks to the class like we're interested but he doesnt realize how boring the material is. Talks in a monotone boston accent. Provides too much notes so studying is vary time consuming. Doesnt use blackboard, has his own site. POSTS PRIOR TESTS WHICH HE USES TO MAKE THE NEW TESTS. i found him very difficult but he allows laptop use.
Very smart man, but very boring. He talks in a monotone voice so drink plenty of caffine before going to class. He posts tests from prior semesters on his website which are extremely helpful study tools. The tests are extremely hard. Small details can make a question wrong so you always have to read the questions VERY CAREFULLY!
Has old exams on-line similar to new, no attendance, but you may blow exams if you miss too much. If you come to class, read the text, do homework, you can earn an A; but if you are going to skip class, not do any work, you will definitely fail, & do not register (he has grade stats online from prior semesters). He is fair, nice guy, super smart.
His class is the only thing useful after finishing the semister. He is welling to help if you do your part. Exams are fair. Great teacher for econ majors or non-econ majors
I had Dr. Pomykala for ECON 204, Honors Macroeconomic Principles. I found his lectures to be average, but at times he would tell stories that were absolutely hilarious. It was worth going to his classes just to hear the stories. I was successful in his class because I studied hard and did the homework. Just attend class and do the work.
worst teacher I have EVER had in the history of my educational career. he is rude & tried to fail me before I could drop out of his class because my mom had brain surgery and was dying in the hospital. he is a little, egotistical man that I hate with everything I have in me.
extremely smart guy. test are really difficult. you have to study! studying practice test online is the best way to do well on the tests. if you get an A average on all 3 tests you dont have to take the final. very reasonable guy. told everyone who did well on the final he would make it worth more to raise their grade. attendance not mandatory.
Hard tests he rapidly goes through the material. His focus is on understanding through repetition not memorizing for an exam. His intelligence is almost overwhelming. You want you to do good, so practice his online exams. He has every exam he has ever giving and there all at your disposal questions with detailed answers. Hes a Good Guy
DO NOT EVER, EVER TAKE THIS TEACHER! HE GETS HIGH OFF FAILING STUDENTS! HE TRICKS YOU WITH DIFFERENT EXAMS ONLY TO GET EXCITED TO FAIL STUDENTS WHO CHEAT. HE IS A HORRIBLE PERSON. AVOID HIM. I MEAN IT. HE HATES LIFE. HES A HORRIBLE TEACHER AND EVEN WORSE OF A HUMAN BEING. STAY AWAY!
GREAT GUY. Don't listen to all the bad reviews about him. You have to be a complete idiot to fail his class becuase he posts all his prior exams online and makes new exams from them. He is always willing to help students. Only thing bad is you have to teach yourslef mostly and his lectures are dry.
what a chill professor. he doesnt care if you come to his class or not...he has a website that has all the prior exams from like 10 years back and most of the questions from his tests are simular from the prior tests...as long as you dont mind a professor that curses you will be fine
He is very chill and smokes a lot of cigs before class, so he is always late. He uses bad language and says inappropraite things in class. Tests are very hard and everyone gets a different test so don't cheat. His lectures are so confusing and boring. He knows so much that he thinks everyone is on his level. His lectures are hard to follow.
Sure his tests are a little difficult, but so is college. What do you expect? Professor Pomykala was my favorite professor at Towson. He knows what he is talking about, so listen to what he says. Attendance isn't mandatory, but I highly recommend going to every class. You will definitely leave with a greater understanding of Economics.
the bet professor at towson. He is brilliant. makes econ interesting. he will catch you if you are cheating, because he is awesome like that. your an idiot if you fail his class, or get any letter grade below an A. He provides you with not only adequate material, but a web site that has previous exam questions. THE BEST= DR. JOE
Absolutely horrible teacher, had my worst experiences with this teacher at TU. Always is late missed test days and always has the same excuses, tests arent bad as he posts all of his prior tests. But when you have to teach yourself everything you wonder why you pay this man.
All I will say is don't take his class if he only meets one day a week unless you can stay awake because it will bore you and put you to sleep.
I took him for history of economic thought. He's really not that tough, at least for that class. He gave three exams, and the final is cumulative. Everthing (seriously EVERYTHING) came out of the class handouts that he lectured from. Study those notes and you'll be fine, unless you're not a good test taker. If that's the case, you should avoid.
Great Professor! Sure, he may come off a little dull/dry, but just pay attention - He really does want you to learn. I left the class learning a lot of material. Do the work and you will be fine. He is more than willing to reinforce material you do not understand!
Take this prof. if you are someone who can look at your notes and teach yourself the material. If not DONT take him. He is not a interactive teacher. I pretty much taught myself the material by reading the book and going to tutoring. Tests are hard and he had to curve every single one b/c so many pple failed. Wouldnt recommend him.
I would not recommend this teacher, he is very hard. i think that he is too smart for an introductory class. he makes everything an equation when it does not need to be. if you are an economics major i would take him but otherwise i would not!!
This class was not difficult whatsoever as long as you read the notes, which could not be spelled out any easier for you. 3 exams - all mult. choice. Attendance not mandatory, but he takes it for stat purposes. Posts all lecture notes online, so all you have to do is sit and listen. I missed a bunch of classes, read the handouts, and got a B. Take!
Do not recommend. He confuses you more when you ask him a question. The tests are hard. He maked this class a bigger deal than it really is. Take him if you absolutely must.
AHHH boring borning.
I wouldn't take him again but if you absolutely have to then when u study for his tests, just study the tests he has online
