Dr. Reidy is the most caring and compassionate professor I have ever had. It is clear that he loves what he does and is extremely passionate about what he teaches. The class consists of 3 tests with lockdown browser, an in-class essay style final, and attendance is taken 9 times out of 10. It is important to pay attention in lectures! Take him!!!
Ive never had to drop a class in my life, before I took this class. I have a 3.8 GPA, I went to class every day, I studied hard, did every study guide, and yet his exams were still IMPOSSIBLE. Dont take him. His PowerPoints are useless, the exam questions are hard, and the class has very few grades. Save yourself, and dont take this class.
This is one of the best professors I've had at Kennesaw. He really loves history and it makes the class a lot more interesting. As long as you go to class and read the material assigned you will do great. I've made an A on every test so far. He is awesome and is pretty funny sometimes. Definitely a great professor and would take him again.
Be ready to sit through the most boring lectures you have ever been in before. The test are impossible and VERY vague. Does not tell you what to study for, and his powerpoints do not even have words on them. Never thought I would struggle in a intro to world history class, but it is all because of him. Just do not take him.
He is very passionate about the subject. There are 3 tests that are online, discussion boards that you have to complete, a argument outline, and a take home final. Overall the class is really boring but its easy to pull out with an A.
This class has been a complete waste of time. I have learned absolutely nothing and worked on solely his class around 30-40 hours a week. i was super stoked on the first day when he said we wouldn't need the textbook now as I am writing my final I wish I had SOMETHING to use as a tool other than notes that reflect his lectures which are useless.
Do not take this guy unless you want to hear the most boring lectures you will ever sit in and take the hardest tests ever. He literally will lecture until the very second the class ends every single time. His tests are so vague that it is literally impossible to prepare for them. The final is an essay with an impossible topic. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!
I have never had to drop a class before but I had to with him. He is a nice professor but his test are so hard. I have never studied so much and still fail the tests. His powerpoints don't help they just have images and cant keep up with what he says during lectures. He is all over the place. His test are made to trick you.
Very lecture heavy but that's ok because he has a passion for what he teaches about so his lectures are quite captivating. He has 4 online exams and an argument outline paper. Also 10 weeks worth of discussion posts of your choice based off of his lectures. No other homework. Would definitely take again
Dr. Reidy is the greatest professor I have EVER taken. His lectures are interesting and informative. TAKE NOTES he does NOT post ppts online. You HAVE to go to class. I would take him for every class if I could. Tests are on the lock down browser but he says to use your notes, just not other people. Only the skippers did not do well. Best teacher.
Loved this class. You do need to attend class to pass, although attendance is not mandatory. Does not use a textbook, he will teach everything you need for the tests in class. His study guides properly cover everything you need to know for the exams. He is very interesting to listen to and very very passionate and knowledgeable.
Great teacher! Really wants everyone to do well in his class. Test are hard, but if you study it's not that bad. Definitely, take !!
He's a fantastic teacher. Anyone who says his testes are hard are wrong. He gives you EVERYTHING you need to know in the study guide. Make sure you take notes. Attendance is mandatory. I made an A on everything. I showed up, took notes, and I did not study much because if you just listened, you have the answers. Amazing man. Take him!!
He's a great teacher, and I appreciate the effort he puts into this class. His passion for the subject is motivating. I'm one to skip class a lot. I barely have missed his though, because I actually like going. Taking good notes are important. If you miss class, make sure you get notes from someone else. The tests are open note!
Greatest professor ever. This was the second time I have had Dr. Reidy. Literally the best. You can tell that he really loves his job, and wants his students to succeed. He posts study guides online for every test and they are fantastic.
PLEASE take him for history!! He's so passionate about what he teaches that it's not boring to sit through class. TAKE NOTES! His quizzes are lecture-based, but aren't difficult if you pay attention. He has discussions every once in a while and a reflection due every week but they're really simple and help keep your grade up. Overall he's great.
I accidentally signed up for this class but I am very glad I did. Reidy is so passionate about history and this class. He makes the lectures interesting and also makes some jokes (sometimes unintentionally) and they are hilarious. A solid and fair professor who makes everything clear. Tests aren't too hard if you show up. Thought provoking class.
This class was extremely boring....I mean honestly. I understand that this is a college class and college is not supposed to be fun and games, but this was torture. Everyday would be the same, he would draw a timeline and start talking for a whole hour. No activities, no hands on lectures, just him talking at the board for an hour.
He is honestly the best professor at KSU and I cannot reccomend him enough. Anyone who struggled in the class was probably just lazy because all you had to do was take notes to pass. He's incredibly kind and thoughtful towards his students. His heart is truly made of gold and the passion for this subject really radiates during lectures. 10/10.
He really cares about what hes teaching and the students learning the information. He is always available for students who need help and makes lectures interesting. The hardest things are the quizzes and one primary source paper along with a final paper.
Great guy. His class is very interesting, and he is the kindest professor I have ever had.
Make sure you come to class!! Be prepared to listen very closely to his lectures, but as long as you pay attention and study your notes you can do well. Dr. Reidy is definitely my favorite professor I've had a KSU, and his passion for history is inspiring. He makes this course fun and engaging, I'd definitely recommend it!
You can tell he really is passionate about history and it makes learning from him fun. He gets super animated and can go off topic sometimes but he is a really great lecturer.
Great teacher. You will fail if you dont take great notes however.
He is SO NICE. he is really passionate about history and it makes lectures so much better. The homework is easy and the tests are very reasonable. Take good notes to prepare for the tests. Make sure you come to class or it can be confusing to catch up.
You can obviously tell he is passionate about what he teaches. But his way of teaching is just lecturing the entire class, and you take notes from what he says, so no detailed powerpoint of what he just explained and the tests are worded differently from what he says in lectures and from the textbook. I got a B in the class even from recording him.
Prof Reidy is so good. He makes sure everyone understands the material and even does test reviews. His tests can be taken twice, he gives study guides, and he answers any questions you make have. He even does a class charter because thats how much he cares about his class. I genuinely loved having him.
Professor Reidy is a great teacher who really does have a lot of passion for history. However, this class is a general requirement for most majors and the work is a lot for being a class that most teachers blow over. If youre genuinely interested in learning history, its a good class. If youre just trying to complete requirements look elsewhere.
Professor Reidy loves history a lot and wants his students to actually learn. He does not take attendance, but he lectures every class and does not put any notes online. His tests can be difficult, but as long as you pay attention it's not too horrible. There's 10 reflections due throughout the semester, which are easy points.
Great professor. I really enjoyed his lecture and will take him next semester for a different class. The tests are pretty easy, online with a lockdown browser, and you get two tries to take it. There is a lot of work outside of class and one paper that can take a while but his lectures are amazing!
This class is pretty much ALL lectures, but he really shows passion for what he teaches + is definitely not the most boring lecturer. There's a lot of outside busy work for class that can really hurt your grade if you don't keep up with it. The hardest part I think were his tests, the questions themselves weren't difficult, but are very specific
He is so passionate about this subject and a very good professor. But, if you're like me this was a very hard class. You have to take notes from everything he says, so you have to go to class to pass, even if its not mandatory. If you're not good with that I suggest not taking this, but he is a very great teacher. Lots of writing!!!
Not by any means an east professor; you have to be sure to take notes on everything he says during lectures and go the extra mile. He is a really good professor though, he is very kind, extremely passionate and will do anything he can to help you succeed in his class if you go talk with him. It's not an easy A by any means but it's doable for sure
There are not enough good things I could say about Dr. Reidy. He is the nicest man and he cares so much about every one of his students. Listen to his lectures and take notes and you will do well on the tests. There are some papers to write but they are not too difficult and Dr. Reidy will help you. I highly suggest taking his class, I love it.
I think I'd describe this class as eh. Don't get me wrong, professor Reidy is extremely passionate and caring about what he is teaching, but you must rely on lectures in order to do good in the class and they. are. so. boring. He dropped 3 of our lowest exams this semester which was nice. It's alright but like I said, eh.
Professor Reidy was the best professor Ive ever had. He is obviously very passionate about his subjects, and he makes lectures fun and interesting. I wish I was able to take him again!! He was always available, clear, and caring. He makes sure that his students are understanding what is happening, and he does tests online, so they are great. 11/10
The most caring professor ever, he is so passionate about teaching history, he really wants you to do well. The only complaints I have are you have to always come to class and take great notes to do well on tests which can be a little difficult, but he makes. history interesting I definitely recommend him just get ready to put in some extra effort.
Professor Reidy was really enjoyable. You could tell that the man was passionate about what he spoke about. The class involves a reflection journal on Monday of every week (just a short summary of what you found interesting), as well as two discussions, a test for each unit, and a primary source paper. You'll fall behind if you don't show up though
His tests were difficult to me, they never correlate with my notes, the wording on the test is diff, and it's so irritating like I've never been so stressed out about a class. My passion is not history, but the way he made it difficult was just beyond me. Yeah, he's passionate about what he does, but the tests made me want to pull my hair out.
My favorite professor ever. His lectures were amazing, I never felt bored for a second, and he cares deeply for all of his students. I'm planning to take another one of his classes, and I really can't wait. I feel like I'm learning and having fun at the same time. His tests were easy- all you need to do is show up for the lecture.
I have taken many history classes and by far this has been my favorite. Dr. Reidy was one of the kindest people I have ever met. He made his lectures into stories and kept everyone interested. A lot of test but they are online (6 test and a final), two papers, weekly reflections and a unit discussion sheet. Overall a great class!!! TAKE HIM!!!
I had Jo for Pre-Modern last semester (Spring 2019). He was my favorite professor that semester, and one of my favorite teachers of all time. He is a kind and caring guy who loves history and wants to share his passion for it with us. His lecture style is storytelling, where he relays the history like a narrative. The tests are based on the notes.
Professor Reidy is by FAR the most amazing history teacher I've ever taken. He's passionate, caring, and funny. His lectures are so fun and he really knows what he's talking about. You'd have to be an actual idiot to not get an A.
Professor Joe is a really great guy. He's a family man and loves showing off pictures of his kids. But that is beside the point here. He is extremely lecture heavy and does not post the power points online so you need to show up to pass. His tests are not too hard, but they can be a little bit tricky. FYI there is lockdown browser in use.
Wow. Honestly one of the best professors Ive ever had. His lectures are amazing, passionate, and not overbearing. They have wonderful pacing and he is the only professor I have ever had my whole attention kept throughout the whole class period. He uses striking analogies, makes you think on empathetic, logical, and social levels. Amazing class.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!! I'm not a big fan of history but he made it so interesting! You should attend class because he doesn't post lectures online, but he makes them into stories so they are worth going to anyways! Tests are a little difficult but one is dropped; about 20-25 questions each. Empathy Journals. Concept Maps. Two Papers. All easy.
Reidy was my favorite professor for this semester. Just as I like it you should attend class but need to do very little study as long as you listen and take a few notes. There is very little homework and some assignments are done in class, which is also why attendance is important for easy points. The tests are easy with multiple choice.
To be honest if you have 40 hours free eachweek this class will be very useful in filling your time. This professor thinks people want to memorize the time periods of Egyptian pharaohs just to answer 1 question on a test. Enjoy coming up with bullcrap for his museum discussions. Do not take this class unless you are a history major. Waste of time
Although he does have a lot of lectures, he really makes them interesting. He is extremely passionate and a bit of a nerd (in the best way possible). He's entertaining and kind. I have turned in a few things late and he doesn't care. Easy A if you do your work, know the definitions, and have ok writing skills. One of the few good professors at KSU.
Maybe he'd be fun in person, but his online class was a mess. Due dates were confusing, assignment instructions were hidden away in weird places in the modules, and the course load was ridiculous. It was literally a full time 40hr work week to try and keep up with his lectures and papers. Oh and his study guides have nothing to do with his tests.
great professor BUt I will warn that with this class being all online for COVID, it has taken up at least 5-6 hours. You have to watch each lecture and there are so many videos. very good videos though. Assignments are fairly easy but its a lot of work. get to choose a portion of assignments to complete. would recommend for a history major.
My favorite professor by far. His tests can be hard but he cares so much about his students and his work. I took his online class and it was veryyy lecture heavy but he makes it okay because he geeks out and make it not so boring. He gives a lot of assignment but they are pass/fail and very easy. Would definitely take again
I can not stress this enough. Professor Reidy is absolutely fantastic. This is a college course and therefore yes, you have to do college work! Nonetheless, his lectures are fantastic and he loves history. You will learn information that will be useful in everything you do.
Words cannot describe how fantastic professor Reidy was. He cares deeply about his students and is passionate about what he does. Although there are a lot of assignments, it is very hard to not do well in this course. Take this professor!
Prof. Reidy is VERY good. Passionate and knowledgeable making it interesting to learn. Lecture heavy but if you just watch and take notes you'll be okay. Just have to apply yourself. I definitely learned more in his class than any history class before. Utilize the extra practice and easy assignments for credit.
Prof Reidy seems like a nice guy and passionate about this class, BUT I would 100% stay away from his class because you have to watch the lectures in videos of him talking about the subject and theyre long. Unless you are very passionate about world history and have a free schedule, choose a different professor.
Most of your grade consists of pass or fail assignments, so do them and pass. He does bounce around in his lectures, but learn the bolded words and you'll be fine (there are NO curve balls). Make sure you keep up with the participation assignments because they can make or break you (there are SO MANY opportunities to complete assignments)! 100/10!!
Taking this class was the worst mistake Ive made so far at KSU. This professor requires 3 assignments a week and has the hardest tests Ive ever taken. This wasnt even one of my major classes and I was spending so much time just for him to give 20s and 40s. DO NOT TAKE, YOU WILL REGRET
Actually took his class back when it was in person before moving online bc of corona. I still remember him as one of my favorite professors so I'm posting this. Incredibly kind and you can tell he's passionate about history. Topics were interesting and the lectures are similar to storytelling. Coursework was a reasonable amount and quizzes are easy
Its a history class, you're going to have to work! he is SO nice ,& gives a very structured syllabus with dates. This man genuinely loves history and wants you to as well. As long as you know the main terms you should do fine on the exams. Also gives so many opportunities to get points for basically P/F assignments. Plus u can just 2x the lecture
even though I hate history, I loved this class. there is a lot of work (lectures, assignments) but you the whole semester (ie 20 review question assignments, you only need to do 5) dropped our lowest test and gave us 2 chances to take each exam. responded to emails in 24 hours- very caring and polite, always willing to work with you
He is super nice and very obviously passionate about history. However, you have two lectures that each take no less then two hours to complete. You have to take notes because the tests are over every single lecture! Easy test if you know the material but it is such a heavy workload on top of other classes. I just don't recommend it.
Professor Reidy offers a lot in his lectures, even though 90% of what is mentioned won't appear on tests. Really, you could just practice the drills and kahoots he provides and ace the tests pretty easily. 3 papers that aren't too challenging and lockdown browser on exams. Don't bother with the study guides, none of what's asked is on the test
I took a class with Dr. Reidy 4 semesters ago, and am coming back now to write this review because he really is that good. His lectures are extremely well-spoken and fascinating. This professor single-handedly launched me into a history research obsession by truly passing along his passion for history. I recommend him to every history major I meet.
Over the course of 15 weeks you have about 2 hours of lectures per week, along with 4-7 review questions, a primary source paragraph and a Virtual Museum entry. Now, you only have to turn 4 of each of those in, but if you do it early how will you understand the test? You still need to do them. Doesnt grade for completion, miss one word and a 0.
Such an interesting professor who cares a lot about the class and history. Altho the class is laid out pretty confusing. There's options of work each week, with so many different due dates and assignments that it's easy to get lost. On top of the work, there's 2+ hours of lectures that close in D2L before the exam. Good prof, but unnecessarily hard
He is very passionate in regards to history and provides great feedback. He always answers emails, but there is workloads every single week. I spend about 4+ each week just taking notes. The test are pretty simple, and he drops the lowest grade. Do not expect to pass the class unless you actually do the work.
He's ALRIGHT he's passionate about history, but u will be confused about ur grade in the class, this man's grading system is weird. u have to do a lot discussions about an interesting artifact from the era he's teaching about, I chose the wrong "time frame", but I had opportunities to post again. I got B's in Tests but ended up with an A somehow?
Some of the lectures were a little bland, but only because it was not my favorite genre of history. He is super nice and responsive over email, and will help you out with any confusion you may have! He grades fair and kindly, but be prepared to read some lengthy documents (rare) and he is super passionate which makes the class 10x better! 10/10
Dr. Reidy is super passionate about what he teaches, which made his lectures that much more interesting. I learned a lot in this course, and it wasn't too demanding in terms of workload: Four discussion posts (out of 6), four cultural experiences, a midterm, a final, and a final 5 page essay about a book you read. It was fun and not too stressful!
He's a great professor. It is very lecture heavy, but listen to your lectures, do the extra credit while you're going through the lectures, and you'll be prepared for his tests. He offers study games too. Very responsive and a very nice professor. Would take again
He can be sassy lol but we only had 8 assignments to complete whenever in the entire course. Knock them out right away and all you have to worry about is studying for the tests. Drops lowest test. Very very lecture heavy, would take notes and take advantage of the extra credit weeks before hand! Tests are hard, study and play the review games!
Professor Reidy was great. He lovessss history and it shows in his lectures which makes the class engaging even though it was online. The class is only hard if you don't keep up with assignments and don't take good notes.
Adheres to the rules to the bone.
I thought he was super nice and his grading/rules were very clear from the start. As long as you completed all of the assignments on time, paid attention to the videos and took notes, then you were gaurentted to pass the tests. The tests had 2 tries and the highest grade was kept.
This class was not that bad! Professor Reidy is a great lecturer, you can tell he is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. The lectures are long but they really do help. His tests can be hard but there are plenty of other grades to make up for them. I recommend taking his class!
Amazing professor! Only 12 Discussions and 4 tests (including the final) for the whole semester. You're able to take the test 2x, higher grade is counted. Tests are lockdown w/camera. Extra Credit up to 25% on tests, complete if you struggle with tests. He is easily accessible to meet with to discuss anything you're struggling with.
Tests are multiple choice. He gives you a study guide. He has a recorded lecture in which he gives you the ANSWER to the study guide (which is effectively the test). Yes, there are discussions and a virtual museum. You have 15 chances to do 4 of them. If you can't fit that in why are you in college? If you do the work you will pass.
He truly cares about his students and gives great feedback. Graded on discussion posts and 2 midterms + noncumulative final. The dps have clear instructions and do take some thought but nothing outside of high-school level thinking. The exams are so easy that they reminded me of middle school social studies. He just wants you guys to do well!
Dr. Reidy was amazing for an online summer history class. While his course was lecture-heavy, his assignments were surprisingly manageable, making the workload balanced. The highlight of his class was the brilliant discussion system he implemented, requiring only four discussions throughout the course. I highly recommend taking his class!
very passionate and interesting lectures(its not boring) just listen to lectures and take notes you should be fine.
Overall solid professor. Plenty of extra credit opportunities. Lecture videos are engaging and its clear he puts an effort into making them entertaining (as entertaining as you can history can be ig). If you're looking for a very structured and organized class, this is it.
If you don't like discussion posts, don't take this class. About 3/4 of the work is (very long) discussion posts and the responses so you'd better hope people turn in their posts on time. The only reason my rating isn't lower is because the teacher is honestly fine aside from the reliance on discussion posts.
Look, I HATE history classes and never do well in them. But, Reidy is an AMAZING professor. The other bad reviews just don't do their work. Just DO THE DISCUSSION posts and you will be fine. Very lenient grader. But you have to follow the rubric to get credit. I failed the tests, but doing the extra credit with it I got above 100% on every test.
He is a good teacher but very passionate. So u got to try hard in this class. It was online but there are a lot of things to do and the lectures are heavy. If you work hard u can handle it.
So easy! In total the classwork is minimal and I didn't even watch any lectures because, in his review material, he provides enough information for you to be able to pass without doing any work. He also is a very fast and fair grader when it comes to the 12 discussion posts (which 4 of them are literally just responses)
The best professor that teaches history in Kennesaw. Take him! He knows the subject and explains it very well. The class is heavy in lecture and he is tough grader; however, he gives a lot of credits. You only have to do 12 out 48 assignments.
Required: On average 2 lectures a week, each lecture is on average 4 videos each 15 minutes long. 4 lock-down exams, the lowest grade is nulled. 8 artifact discussion posts: 4 posting, 4 responding. 4 Primary Source discussion posts of 500 words + must respond to two students with evidence from the texts. Just a lot of work for a core class IMO.
This class was hard not going to lie.
The people who give this man a bad rating are slackers who think they deserve an A for doing nothing lol. About 2 hours of notes per week, which is nothing if you make time for it, and he offers 25 points of extra credit that is ADDED ONTO your exam grade (ex. you score a 75 on the exam and get the credit, you now have a 100). Overall amazing dude!
This class was very hard and has given me the most workload of any professor (especially for a gen ed class). You have to know a timeline with people and events for tests, and all are lock-down with webcam. I attempted to do review questions for extra credit and spent 3 hours on it, to not get any credit at all. Personally, wouldn't recommend it.
His classes are very lecture heavy and have many assignments. For my final essay, there were no clear instructions or prompt, but the feedback stated that my essay was ineligible for grading without explanation and thus gave it a 0. Do not take unless it is your last resort.
I loved Reidy's class. This is a prof who knows what he's talking about about and loves talking about it. Despite being an online class, there are assignments to visit cultural centers- broadened my understanding of content far beyond what I would've ever thought. If you like history and you like learning, this is the class for you. Not an easy A.
Absolutely great and knowledgeable professor who DEFINITELY loves what he does. However, the online lectures are LONG and there are three subcategories in one module with 4-5 15 minute lectures for each topic in the module. He uses D2L metrics to take attendance so you have to watch the lectures at regular speed. Easy grader, lots of work.
The course is challenging regarding content volume and workload, however, he is the kindest professor I've had so far. Incredibly passionate and knowledgable, and he cares deeply for his students' learning experience and comprehension. Offers 2 attempts on tests, extra credit, insightful feedback, swift responses to emails, and very compassionate.
1st off Dr. Reidy is a very nice and helpful teacher. But the class is challenging due to how big of a workload he gives you. In my opinion it's just a lot of work for it to only be a Gen ed class. Lot of note taking and each module is split into 3 lectures with each lecture being basically an hour long(3 hours per module).
You can tell Prof. Reidy is a very driven teacher, which shows in his lectures. I enjoyed his class a lot because he is always passionate about whatever he's saying but those lectures are all so long!!! so definitely watch every one of them. He's a generous grader when it comes to writing assignments, he gives extra credit work. very great teacher
I took him Online. Lots of reading and heavy Lectures. We had to do same assignments weekly like discussion posts and Essays every week! you have to read maybe like 5 long readings and combine them then write an essay over a prompt. he's a really tough grader. He does give good feedback and very organized. allowed 2 attempts on Exams + lockdown.
Dr. Reidy is an amazing teacher. There's plenty of opportunity for you to do the work you need and get full credit. His lectures are information heavy, but as long as you keep up with them, you will be okay. He offers extra credit questions at the end of each lecture for 25 points added to your test. He's a great professor and provides great info.
He is a very detailed professor. He gives great feedback. However, there is a lot of work for a gen-ed class. The work seems overwhelming at first but you get the hang of it pretty quickly. Get ready to write a lot. The tests were not easy as well, usually on lockdown. I would not take him again even though I got an A.
Took him Spring '23. Good professor, just lots of assignments to keep up with. Is a nice guy though
Professor Reidy's HIST1111 class is challenging but manageable with dedication. While the workload is heavy, he offers great support and extra credit opportunities. Unstuck AI proved helpful for exam prep alongside the textbook.
His World History class is not that hard. You only have to do a fraction of the assignments to get an A. Also he offers 25 bonus points for completing the study guide (strict grading on that though). I literally didnt study for the last exam because he drops the lowest exam grade. Do stuff early, DO NOT PROCRASTINATE
I would not recommend taking him! Yes he offers extra credit but his class is way too much for being a general ed course. He is too strict on grading and he makes long videos that you must watch that will help you pass the tests. These videos are three hours long all together! And this is just a week.
Good professor. Listens to feedback from students and has a generally easy class to do well in. Extra credit opportunites if you don't usually test well and drops lowest unit test. Good guy as well.
Great teacher. Clearly enjoys and knows what he is teaching. Easily accesible in my experiences. Gave well worth it extra credit. You generally can finish the class all the coursework at your own pace besides tests and quizzes. I definitely recommend.
