He is an unfelling jerk!
Hmm? Is marketing really that hard, hmm? Worst business professor, hmm? All sentences in class are asked in form of a question ending in hmmm? Takes attendance, hmm? See how annoying that is??
avoid this guy at all costs. You will learn so much more from someone else!!!!
everytime he says successful it sounds like sexual.
Not so much. Don´t waste your time.
This guy is the worst! What teacher comes to class and says "what should we learn today?" Isn't it his job to decide that? He took learning the basics of marketing and turned it into this horrible, dragging, waste of time class!
hard to understand. pop quizzes make you go to class. do the sample tests that he posts and you should get a decent grade. hw isnt very challenging
speechless
Overall the teacher was pretty fair. You have to go to class, because he has a quiz every week and also group activities which help you boost your grade at the end of the term. He drops the lowest test and quiz so that helps out alot.
This professor does not have any interest in helping his students learn the material. Class attendance is a must, but it is VERY hard to understand him. When asking questions he'll just laugh at you. Definately do not reccomend him!
Attendance mandatory, he provides notes so no book, must study notes before every quiz and test. The markstrat game is pretty fun and ties everything together. Pretty good professor sometimes hard to understand. Would recommend.
Attendance is not required but you should go to EVERY class(it will boost your grade in the end) his lectures seem to drag on forever! and his quizes are often irrevelant to material covered in class. he isn't the worst teacher, but I didn't come out of class feeling like a genius in marketing.
His lectures drag on and on, but as long as you skim the book and go over the power points you will pass... But if you can take someone else, do it.
Really random.. Some quiz questions won't even be in the powerpoint he goes over. Always keeps you late which is annoying. Mumbles a lot. Such a shame because I used to like marketing before him.
He kept saying that the exam is solely on the material covered in class, not everything in the book. This is simply not true. He uses a test bank for exams so he does not really control the questions. I read the book and am fairly certain that he also is using a different book's test bank because there are discrepancies between key terms.
Learned several new things. Good instructor. Test our somewhat difficult. Final is very tough. Lots of terminology and understanding the broader aspects of the subject. Even though I received a low grade, I would recommend him if you're good at taking test and want to learn.
Never really understood his lectures and where he was going with them. Random notes that were not on powerpoint and showed up on tests/ quizzes instead. Talked really low and is unorganized when it comes down to lectures on board.
Took class online. Don't know what everyone is complaining about. Quiz every week and discussion. Midterm is just like quiz but more questions. Must read book. I read chapters 2 - 3 times before exam/quizzes. Never watched his lecture and getting A's. Just read the book, test/quizzes are straight out of the book. Don't think this is a hard class.
Teacher was extremerly helpful. Took him during summer 2012.Attendace mandatory because of the pop quizess. We had to do some online homework and reading for which most of the grade was assigned.Had one MT and final.Provides examples that are clear and understandble. He also had inclass activity that carried points. His powerpoints are helpful n exams
Took the online class and didn't watch a single lecture and got an A in the class. The textbook and coursemate site are all you need. Most of the material is pretty easy, and straight from the book. The professor is very understanding about schedule conflicts.
Heavy accent. Timed quizzes: 10 questions for 10 minutes only. Lectures are boring and useless. Very slow speaking. Very critique about discussion posts.
I took his online class. It is easy but tedious. There's a bunch of online activities we're required to do that help us learn the material. 11 quizzes (he drops lowest), 3 midterms + a final. He also has discussion posts and actually reads and critiques your comments. The final exam was hard.
Terrible teacher. Talks at the floor. Uses a test bank with questions from chapters he didn't even teach. When confronted, he claims it was said in lecture. Participation activities, pop quizzes, early final exam. Felt like a high school class. He needs a public speaking class very badly.
Extremely disappointed with this teacher.Had a high B going into final, somehow ended up with a C.Mysteriously breakdown of grade no longer avail online.Grade is 10 online quizzes, 4 tests, 5 postings online. Confronted by GROUP of dissatisfied students and somehow his word is better than the majority of class. Beg to hate Sac State. Lame, lame.
Beware!! He assumes cheating on tests if midterms and final grades not close. Final partially cumulative and hard and all tests timed. His policy is if you score high on midterms and low on final, he will take away your midterm grades and replace them with a second final grade. Midterms 150 pts, Final 150 pts. 11 Quizes but can drop lowest.
The class is difficult overall. Lectures, online companion activities, discussions, and quizzes. There were 3 midterms and 1 final. All were difficult and some of the questions were from chapters we didn't even review. He does a competitive grading scale, so grades won't be known until he calculates final grade.Do all the work.
He is not a good teacher. He has a very good understanding of Marketing, but not good teaching skills. His tests are very hard and not based on the lecture. I would suggest taking another teacher.
This is for his marketing 129 class. I highly suggest you to take Read or Tong instead. This guy does not grade things on time, and is not helpful in any way. His exams are highly based on his "Modules" which is his bible for the class. Notes & Formula sheet are prohibited. The class has a high failure rate, AVOID AT ALL COST!TONS OF MATH PROBLEMS
Terrible MKTG 101 online class. With 10 minute quizzes, Coursemate (publisher's online platform),"in-class" activities, dozens of additional readings for each chapter, and discussions, this professor expects way too much from his online students. He is one of those professors who acts like his class is your only class. Trust me, don't take it.
I took the online class and it sucked. He expects you to spend 2-3 hours a week on pointless in class activities and coursemate participation. You take countless quizzes, I'm talking 30+. The participation and in class activities are the most time consuming and worth the least amount of points. Do yourself a favor, take another teacher!
STAY AWAY! Richards is completely hands-off with his online courses. Exams are very difficult, and do not align with the textbook. Online activities are a waste of time, and his lectures are all pre-recorded. Take another instructor and save yourself the heartache.
turned stuff in 10-1. 12-13- still not graded. Student asked after the final when we could expect grades: He said Jan 2-deadline for submission to the registrar. The class isn't taught poorly, its that you never know where you stand in the class until he posts them online and refuses to justify them after the fact. Watch out if he doesn't like you.
Tests are extremely difficult and he does not provide any formulas to solve them. The average letter grade for exam 1 was a D! During the final more than half of the class was still working on it until they ran out of time. This is exactly how bad this professor is. Take someone else if you have the chance, even if it doesn't fit your schedule!
Absolutely the worst marketing professor in CSUS. Grades things late and his exams are extremely difficult. What kind of marketing class besides 121 uses so much math?!
Worst Professor I have taken at this school. Class is extremely boring and does not engage the students. Tests are awful, not only does he make the material much harder then it needs to be, but you take it on the computer.
So here is the thing. This class is not impossible but it is very demanding for a intro course. You must understand the content and not just regurgitate definitions, luckily the content is very interesting even if he doesn't always present it as such. grades on a relative scale. B ended up as an A. Online engagement crucial to success
lectures are not useful, tons of reading online, online assignment related to the textbook. somewhat useful but very boring! His tests are awful and all online. The good thing is that he will boost your grade if your final score is higher then your avg midterm scores. I went into the final with a D+ and after all the work was graded I got a B.
Fair warning! He's awful. No intent on teaching, merely demonstrating his superiority complex in a State college environment. EXTENSIVE READING AND WRITING. This should be considered equivalent to the writing intensive class due to his useless ICA's. Avg weekly time spent 20hrs on just his course. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!!!
Do NOT take this professor if you have a chance. I think he probably is a nice guy, but he is the worst teacher I have ever had at Sac State. His lectures are horrible and word for word the book then you get the test and have no idea what is going on. His tests are ridiculous, the final was miserable. Students hated this class. AVOID
I did not listen to lectures. I merely read the book. Class was not too difficult but there was a lot of busy writing called "In-Class Assignments" that were time consuming. My biggest gripe is the testing system. You have to start within a half-hour of its posting and if Sac CT or your computer glitch you cannot finishcontinue the test.
DO NOT TAKE THIS. He has ten year. He doesn't care. Boring lecture. Extremely difficult test. No help at all. Really, he's absolutely horrible. Current grades: A, A, B, A... D+. Guess which is his class.
Prof Richards has passion for the topic, but he is very tough. he doesn't lecture about anything that is on his tests, and the study tools that he puts on SacCT are irrelevant. I was really interested in this topic, until i took this course.. and now I'm over it. SUPER HARD paper, with group members. DO NOT TAKE!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS Weekly quizzes online, even though it's not an online course. Three extremely difficult exams- 75 questions each. The final was on 10 chapters, but only because he didn't have time to lecture on 11 chapters. There are pop quizzes, and the (2) group projects... oh boy. Be prepared to become extremely depressed with the workload.
Everything on the exams are in the book, but he makes you show up to the dragging lecture class with the use of in-class activities. He expects his students to study about 6-10 hours a week for the course not thinking that we have other classes. Exams are difficult, the lectures are boring, making students hate a potentially interesting course.
This guy is clearly under-rated! Had to take this class since he was the only prof teaching it. The class is set up on 2 Exams, Online HW, Pop Quizzes, 2 Group Presentations (Easy), 1 Major Group Project (Easy). Honestly the class was a breeze. His exams and quizzes come straight from the book, so use your resources! Just be smart about this class!
Most of the test questions come from what he talks about in class. The problem is that because of his accent, I had no idea what he was talking about in class.
It was easy class. Professor is smart but he is not entertaining at all. He does his job but if you get bored easily take some one else. Overall, I learned a lot from this class.
Be ready to self-study! Lectures aren't clear. Exams are hard and 40% of questions don't relate to the textbook. There are a lot of knowledge professors at CSUS, yet NOT all of them can teach others. So, he can't.
Not the greatest professor but you can easily pass. Attendance is required since he does do in class assignments every lecture. Textbook and online access code is needed for homework. Homework isn't to hard but doesn't help for his tests. He does pop quizzes but tells you the day before so they aren't a surprise. Recycles quiz questions on tests.
One of the worst professor's I've taken. Boring lectures with little involvement with class.
After reading his reviews I think he is a little under rated. I mean this wasn't the most interesting class but he does a good job teaching the subject. Test can be a lil tricky but he does cover all the material and if you study you can get a good grade. He is not as bad as people are making it seem. Only gripe is he is a slow grader.
Slow at getting back to emails. Awkward when conversating and feels like he doesn't want to help you. Lectures are heavy. Homework does not help you with anything. Would not take this professor again even if I got paid to! Oh and final is 100 questions and worth 40% of grade. Avoid!
This was on online course. Avoid if you can. Way too much writing for this class and felt like it was supposed to be writing intensive course instead. Barely answers emails. Pop quizzes every week. 2 midterms and Final (40% of the grade). Lots of ICA writing for every chapter and additional weekly homework through mystat lab.
Im sure Dr. Richards is a very genuine guy at heart, but hes gotta spice up his teaching methods and the way the class is run. Marketing research is already a boring topic and to have an outdated/boring teaching style doesnt help at all. Its not an incredibly difficult course but you do have to endure the long lectures and minimal enthusiasm.
Easy to pass if you are not expecting A, every week writing ICA, quizzes. Midterm was OK, final was bad because there are 2 hours with 97 questions, so it is less than 2 min per question while he wants you to calculate last 4-7 questions but you will not have time for it; you have time only to read the question.
Lectures are okay but he gives clear grading criteria which makes the exams easy to pass. I used the study tools on MyLab and found that many of the questions were on the exam in the exact format.
His lectures were basically copied off of his power points. Class was dull but necessary because he gave easy assignments during class, if you miss too many it adds up and affects your grades. Don't forget your online assignments, Quizlet will be your best friend. There is no group work. Tests are multiple choice.
Very slow grader, and that's a huge thumbs down with me. Overall his class isn't bad, just boring. He can be hard to understand due to his accent, and his tone is a bit low. I am rating him primarily on his inability to post grades in a timely manner.
I am an accounting major and took this class as the business admin requirement. Hardest A of my college career thus far. The MyLab homework is beyond frustrating and the exams are difficult. In class assignments make attendance a must, they are easy but you need to be there. Read book carefully for exams! Quizlet!
I didn't find his lectures boring. Pretty specific lecture followed by his lecture guides. He does offer extra credit. Clear grading policy. I found Pearson's homework pretty interesting too. You have to do a bit of critical thinking that I enjoyed. Exams area bit hard but my a lot of extra credit covered it.
HIs lectures were a bit slow but interesting. However, barely any questions on the exams were based on them-make sure to read the textbook and take good notes. The hw and quizzes have multiple attempts. One lengthy research group project which he doesnt go over at all. Other than that he is an easy grader and drops lowest exam.
Makes a 101 course way more difficult than it has to be. He has weekly quizzes and in class activities that are based on the lectures but he barely posts any slides so you actually have to take notes on what he says to pass them. The lectures are also incredibly dry which makes paying attention in an online environment even more difficult.
Very hard to understand, due to his accent. He is not comprehensive at all. Gives 50 questions on an exam to complete in 60 minutes. I suggest rewatching videos of his lecture to understand. If you can do not take this class, it will drain you.
Do not take this class, makes the course so much harder than it has to be by giving so much hw and extra long lectures. For Exams gives only 60 mins for 50 questions.
If I could give this professor a zero, I would. His syllabus states that this class is point based and based off 300 points. WRONG. His lectures and homework make zero sense and are a complete waste of time. His use of excel would have been helpful if it was the first year excel came out. He needs to update his excel knowledge and learn to count.
Just no. don't take this professor. Worst professor I ever had. He seems bothered when you ask him legit questions about the class. He also assumed we knew everything and taught graduate level material. Do not take.
No live meetings. Most lectures were on Youtube. Some of the ICAs (In-Class Assignments) were confusing and time-consuming. Quizzes were MC with multiple attempts but randomized order of questions. Take good notes from lectures and you rarely have to open the textbook. Assignments and some quizzes on MyLab (Paid) and the rest is on Canvas.
Dr Richards is one of the finest Professor I have ever come across. His teaching methodology is filled with great insights and examples. He ensures every student is picking up every aspect of the course. He is pretty friendly and always at ease in and out of the class. His philosophy of life hovers around happiness.
Avoid this class if possible. The weekly quizzes and in-class activities are tied to the lectures, but there are no posted slides, so you'll need to take notes to pass. The lectures are dull, and his accent can make it hard to understand. The exams are difficult, with 50 questions in 60 minutes. Look for other options if you can.
Don not take his class. Avoid if possible. You will do tons of work everyweek (around 8-9assignments each week). Ecams are very hard 50questions in 60 minutes.
He was for sure one of the best teachers I've ever had.
Took this professor as a summer course and never again! He doesn't take role but he assigns classwork that's only available until the end of class and to the people in class and it kills you're grade because his grading scale is so weird. Weekly assignments, exams in class. 30-40 questions in 50 minutes and also very passive aggressive.
horrible
Would show up and choose what to teach the day of. Most homework was simple but only worth 1-3 points. The final is a mix of those assignments but they're worth 10-20 so if you fail those you fail the class. His syllabus says to message him on canvas but he never answered those and barely answered his outlook emails. Students knew more
I read about this professor before I took him and was a bit nervous, but honestly he was not so bad. Every week is the same, lecture mylab assignments, which were pretty easy and in class assignments. His exams are based on his lecture so I would pay attention to his lectures not really the textbook I overall enjoyed this class.
Would routinely sit in silence the first 20 minutes of class while he decided what he was going to lecture on for the day. Out of class assignments often lack outside resources to succeed. Difficult class to remain attentive in due to mundane and monotonous lectures.
The class wasn't too bad compared to some of his reviews. The in-class assignments (ICAs) were annoying because they were weighted heavily. The Pearson my lab assignments seemed like they didn't raise my grade that much. Lectures could get stale. The final was pretty difficult but it was taken online. Allowed a note card for the other two tests.
Prof. Richards has charm, but it can't compete with his boring lectures. It's a slog but read the book. He provides slides, but they often miss key info. Simple concepts & basic algebra. Assignments on Pearson were quick & easy. ICAs were heavily graded & often had trick questions/subjective answers but he'd say how to do some during lectures.
This class was overwhelming for no reason. We had over 100 assignments most of which felt like busy work. The professor never responded to emails, even when I reached out multiple times. It honestly felt like we were teaching ourselves the entire semester. If you're looking for support or actual engagement from your professor, I'd avoid this class.
Not the best. Every class he just had us copy off the board for daily ICAs without much narration. Homework mostly easy but instructions weren't always super clear. Said in syllabus that final would be take-home, but moved it to in-person last min for no actual reason. It was hard and not really like the homework. Did drop one lowest ICA and HW tho
Cons - My Lab (over $100), shit ton that weight very little - Mandatory attend via ICAs - Grade heavy on midterm and final, 100 questions each, avg grade low 60s. Best of luck studying on it since it's based on anything and everything - lecture get stale… Pros - to pass get 100% on anything other then the tests, and hope for the best on test time
Beginning of the semester he said that he didn't care if students came in as long as they did the work; however as the semester went along less students started to show up and he started giving in class activities and having codes on them so that these students get points deducted. If you cared by attendance just say so!
Avoid this professor.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. Not only is he hard to follow, but he gave us absolutely no guidance for what would be on the final. I asked him “are we going to have a study guide” and he just vaguely said “no it's just what you learn in this class.” Mind you, there's nothing to go back and reference except for the in class excel assignments. He sucks
