I liked this class. He is strict, but made Shakespeare interesting. As far as attitude, i slightly agree, but this is college and people should just do the assigned work and they will be fine.

He is strict, but a very good professor. As long you come to class and do the assignments you will pass with a good grade. Its a easy class.

I took Professor Roach for three classes and although he has very strict rules he happens to be an excellent teacher. I was never much of a writer until I was taught to do so by him. If you show up to his class and follow his rules you will learn alot as well as do very well.

Yes he can be tough (both as a teacher and person), but he is a good guy who knows his stuff, cares about (and loves) his work, and (provided the student is open enough) will be one of the best teachers you could ever have.

Loved his class but yes he is VERY difficult if you push his buttons. He pushes students but that is a good thing. If you like witting I would recommend him as he will find your nitch! Also a very funny professor with lots of stories! I can not tell you how many times we just had full on conversations with the professor in class. Highly recommended

Nice guy for the most part, but he's not kidding! If he says something, do it exactly. I think he's great. Does NOT hold your hand, will fail your paper quicker than you can blink. Pay attention and you'll learn a lot though. Only downfall is that he's a bit over critical and doesn't give credit on anything good... more of a pessimist.

Professor Roach gets a bad rap because he is one of the few professor's who treats his students as college level students. There are no free rides but if you go to his class and do the work assigned you will do fine and actually learn alot in the interim. I think he is what MCC needs more of to help you prepare for the real world awaiting you!!!!

I enjoyed his class. If you show up and read the material, participate in discussion, and are able to write your research papers in MLA style, then take his class. If you can not do these things, this is not the class for you. If you passed ENG 121,122 then he expects you to be able to write in the correct format or he will return your work.

To the "experimental" ESL student.You broke the student code of conduct,you shouldn't even be in the school! You should have written your own work, and taken it to the head of the ENG Dept when you got it back to get an honest opinion of your work. In the real world you have to follow the proper steps to get satisfaction.What you did was cheating!

Dr. Roach is probably the best Professor in the whole college. He teaches as if we are actually in college! What a shock. For anyone looking for a professor that gives free rides Dr. Roach is not the professor for you. The most important thing is he is very intelligent and you can learn alot from him. Just do the work and there will be no problems.

Professor Roach is a WONDERFUL person and teacher! He takes alot of time with students needing help, and he cares for his students. I cannot say enough good things about this man. I HIGHLY recommend him.

He is a really strict teacher, but i learned a lot about writing from him. I missed class about 4 times and he didn't fail me nor did i fail for getting an F on one paper i got consistent b papers show a lot of interest in this class he gives extra points for participation and if he remembers your name that is a plus lol

Very helpful takes his job seriously and gives commentary on paper in order to mold us into better writers. (Isn't that why we're are taking English 121?) Part 2: Prof. is understanding.We, as adults should follow the rules and be respectful. Responds to faxes, calls and e-mails. I have always taken my studies seriously and worked hard. Students complain too much about Prof. Roach is a great professor and understanding especially if any extenuating circumstances may arise.

Professor Roach is a very nice man. It was my first semester and college was new to me, he helped me along the way. He taught me how to write. He is a tough grader! Wants the writing to be perfect but, his class will most definately help you in the long run!

I have to agree with everyone else.. I have Dr. Roach back in Fall of 2007.. Very difficult professor and i wouldn't recommend taking him.. His class is very difficult and he talks very " femish" and is very difficult to understand, i am sure he means well but he edits your papers very strictly and leaves no margin of error.. Very easy to fail!!!

Dr. Roach is my favorite teacher at middlesex. Very intimidating at first but as the class went on he got really down to earth and I love him! Pay attention, do your work be active in class and he'll favor you! He treats you AS A COLLEGE STUDENT. if you expect easy peasy don't take him. over all loved the class, loved his stories, learned alot.

Although he is odd and comes off cocky, he is a really good professor. If you take all of his corrections into consideration for your next paper, you will improve each time. He believes in rewarding students on their progress and basically your grade for the semester is the highest grade you got on a paper. he is a tad bit scary but really good.

He comes off really scary at first. He has an attitude and its can be hard to take. vocab and newspaper test every week. but if you buy a newpaper do the work and study. There is no reason for you to not pass. His grade reflects your effort. And he works with you if you have troble pronouncing words. Just show common sence and do the work

He's a great professor. You need to try in his class in order to pass (so no BS-ing). If you don't listen to his comments on your papers, he will try to get it into your head to listen to his guidance through brutal honesty & can cause the really sensitive people to cry. If you are for PETA, don't take his class; he wears leather pants everyday!

Now i must agree with some of the comments. he is rude, a bit biased, and a tad feminine. But to me i will never forget this professor.Overall he doesn't put up with crap and makes you want to learn.

Dr. Roach is an extremely knowledgeable professor. However, his mood tends to be unpredictable. He may be nice one day, but may be rude on another. He does give As on papers, but it is the responsibility of the student to write well. If you cannot, Dr. Roach will teach you (if you show the interest). He is extremely strict with proper citation!

i absolutely loved him. i took him for 2 different english classes. he is very strict but if you do what he asks of you you'll be fine and for the one that said noone gets and a i got it in both classes...

Professor Roach was a very good professor if you tried in class and improved on your papers. He was a very hard grader, but he gave the final grade on how well you improved during his course rather than an average of all your grades. He was very strict, but I learned a lot about writing in his class. Make sure you attend every class participate.

A very strict professor with concerns to assignments and writing ability. However, if you show improvement consistently through your essays he will give you a better grade than your average. I got an F, D, C, and A- on my essays and walked away with a B+. A little OCD, but humorous. Do the work and you'll be OK.

he is an amazingly funny, kind and real guy. not many would pass but for those who will. you will have a lifetime of lessons and not only from reading and english. great teacher, even better stories

People say that he is strict. He is a strict professor, but if you are never late. Do your work when told you will pass. He spends half of the time giving stories so that kind of helps. He goes over everything so you get an understanding of what you are actually doing.

I agree... not many will pass him, but if you do: You will be one hell of a writer. I had an A in English before he failed my first paper. Passing his class became a vendetta and after approaching him for help, I realized he wasnt as bad as i thought. Just STRICT. I earned an A in his class and recommend only take him if you write well ALREADY.

Hard. Very hard. But if you try, hard you will pass. I failed the first 3 essays, got a D-, and the last two were Cs and I passed with a C+ because I got better and he could tell. I remember coming to his class late and not only he yelled at me, but he failed my paper. Later on I was able to improve in my writing because of him. Hopefully I pass too. I didn't know he was gonna be this strict, however, as time goes by, he is really nice. He may be strict but he is a kind teacher.

Dr. Roach is Definitely one of a kind. All you have to do is show up for class, ON TIME, try and participate. He gives credit where credit is due and he will help you if you need it. Strongly suggest for people who have difficulty writing, take someone else.

I love him. He is the kind of teacher that loves his job and is not at MCC for a paycheck.Hi swillingness to teach is admirable. Just follow the sylabus and you will be just fine. 4 in class essays & 4 out of class. He also grades on improvement. Definetly do not use "yeah" as it is not the proper word itis "yes" he will correct you time after time

Dr Roach is a good Professor. He is not as tough as he acts. He gives a lot of quizzes (VOCAB&BG) But if you take the time to study you will pass. Say the word 'yes' not yeah. Slang annoys him. Attendance is mandatory if your late just don't show up. He does not like anyone being disrespectful but he does like to joke around with his students.

This professor is straight forward. Many students dont like him but ist because he is strict, he doesnt like students to be late, talk back or use slang. otherwise you will pass his class.

Dr. Roach seems very intimidating in the beginning but he really is down to Earth and helpful. The class consists of Voc and Chapter test which play a huge role in your grade (very easy) if u take the time to study. Textbooks are a must!!! AND SO IS ATTENDANCE!! Other than that he spend the whole class time talking about his past. i recommend him.

If you're not an independent adult yet or get your feelings hurt too easily, then this professor isn't for you. Other than that, he's not bad as everyone is making him out to be when you get to know him. Also, the work is quite easy.

The only teacher I've ever had at MCC that didn't make me feel like I was in highschool. He graded harshly, which pushed me to do better. I always did decent in English, but he gave me a D for my first paper that would have been at least a B- in any other English class. He pushed me, and I felt like I EARNED the A I got in that class.

Easily distracted in lecture but always comes back to the point. uses several sources to teach, book mag and movie. I loved the class always interesting and I got a well earned A and learned MLA.

Strict professor but honestly i took him my first semester and would take his course over if i could. made class interesting. He has no problem speaking his mind and critiquing your mistakes. if you are and take the time to learn you will pass, just like any other course

He comes off extremely mean, but a few class later he gets nicer. Read the stories he assigns, DO NOT be late, and only write in 3rd person. I learned a lot in his class already and I'm not even done yet. He's so nice to you if you participate and be front row. Definitely visit him in his office if you need any help whatsoever. he loves that.

Doctor Roach is not a bad teacher, he treats u w/ respect as long as u do the same. The assignments are pretty easy to the point you u do 5 chapters ahead and wouldn't have to worry. Tests are pretty easy as long as u study a little bit for it. Just be sure to come to class ON TIME (he won't let u in if you are late) & make sure to pee before class

Had my first class today so I wouldn't say this is the most accurate review but I can say will have to work for your grade, don't say "yeah" in his class , made a sterotype comment towards Hispanics not sure what that had to do with the lecture, be prepared , don't be late , don't be absent unless dead, I feel like I'm in highschool with his rules

Roach is very nice once you get to know him. He was tough at the very first class and I felt intimidated, but I learned that his tough behavior is intended to prep students for a harsh reality. Just do the work, study for those vocabulary tests, an you'll pass. His lectures are engaging and makes class interesting. I highly recommend him.

He may seem difficult in the first class but give him a chance he's really nice he tells you upfront u will fail the 1st paper it's just 4 him 2 c where u r as a writer n then he critiques and tells u where u need to improve. Ask questions he is always willing to help started with an F ended with an A.

Took him for a four week summer course. Failed the first paper, and he told me I didn't have good writing. He pushed me to improve, and it helps that he grades based on improvement. He seems really tough at first. About a third of the students dropped his class after the first day. Do the reading, write clearly, FOLLOW MLA FORMAT, and you'll pass.

Roach is a very interesting prof. On the first day of class, you will think its a mistake and you need to drop. However, if you stick around, in the following days he opens up and talks to you. Very informative and knowledgeable about countless things. Very strict about MLA format . He gives 15 min breaks for long classes. Can be a very relaxed guy.

I took him over the summer. On the first day, he intimidated so much of what was a full class, over 2/3 of the class dropped his course. He failed me on my first paper, because it didn't live up to his standards, then told me I couldn't write/needed to work harder. It's because of him I can write long, well-written, research papers in one sitting.

Very well spoken professor and very well educated had a lot of good stories about New York City in the 80s and I can listen to him for hours. All he asked from you is that you be to his class on time and attended it every single time that's all he was not a hard professor at all.
