He teaches VERY VERY well. his tests are ok. He's funny sometimes. But don't let your cell phone go off in class. He's got this strange fascination with ring tones, and he takes time out of the class to discuss it... Overall I would recommend him
he teaches REALLY well. his tests are ver clear and easy. (mostly structures)good orgo class to sit through cuz he teaches u the most important stuff without asking u stupid filler questions.
He was an okay teacher but very snotty and unhelpful. But he will most likely pass students who do not do so well in the course.
he doesn't teach wat so ever i taught myself and hes like orange from tanning and has blue hair. hes very rude and thinks who he is
hes one of the easiest professors for ORGANIC CHEMISTRY! his tests are too easy! he may sound ackward in the begining but thats how he is! dont look at his personality look at the way he teaches and he will def get the stuff in ur head!
HE MADE ME CRY BY HIS UNPLEASANT DEMEANOR.... NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. TAKE SOMEONE ELSE IF YOU CAN< LIKE BROWN OR CAESAR OR EVEN GILLIGAN!!!
explains material very well, especially good for students who get lazy and dont read the book. tests are pretty easy, you just have to know the basics
Sarra is ok.Lectures are really good, but he is very unhelpful! if you need help, he tells u to read the textbook again until u get it. Tests are so easy compared to the final (which is brown's questions. Brown prepares u best for the final so take him!
I dont care if anyone says a nice thing about him. He sucks if u need extra help!!!!
Dont take him if you are the kind of person who goes to professors for extra help. He told me when I asked for extra help that if I could not pass Chem II than I won't ever finish pharmacy school!... Goodluck to all those who have him
I didn't notice any rudeness, but Sarra definitely isn't one of those teachers you can suck up to. His explanations are really helpful, a lot to remember but he points out the necessary topics.
His tests are easy and his lectures are very straightforward and interesting if you put your mind to it. Just don't ever expect him to offer you any help other than the lectures.
all you guys dont know what you are talking about. he was awesome, he was always there when i needed help.he is the reason i loved organic chemistry. if you cant handle sarra in your baby years of pharmacy then quit while you're ahead. it only gets better
Probably one of the best professors I have ever had in my college carear. I know Organic so well because of him.

Let me know if he teaches any other subject... So I STAY AWAY from him.!!!
Awful! Goes very fast! kinda insulting sometimes if u ask a question!
phenomenal teacher...just awesome!
Very rude, makes harder tests than brown, cesaer, or even bertini...goes very fast must read the textbook thats how i learned Organic Chem... I would recommend taking Cesaer, Brown or Bertini if he teaches organic. Stay away!! No curves on tests! Very bad, Nasty attitude! Goes very fast! STAY AWAY!
this man is the best professor i have ever had. i might not have gotten an A, but sure enjoyed my time in his class. he tells it like it is and thats that.
good teacher. his tests are decent and i dont know what some some ppl are talking about he does curve at the end. he made class fun to attend. the ppl that said he was hard arent fit to stay in pharm.
fun professor, but not easy. he explain things very clearly, but stresses that you have to read the textbook and do the problems behind the chapter. it is very helpful when you are prepared. he does not give extra credits or provide extra help though. make sure that you are fully prepared for ex
DEFFINATELY the BEST orgo chem teacher. He actually makes the class interesting and he has no tricks. you do what he says and you'll do great. he does NOT go fast. if n e thing he goes the slowest.. just read the textbook do the probs.. go to class.. and ur straight. hes a good teacher.
Makes class fun, explains concepts well...i have learned a lot from him and will continue taking classes with him in the future.
Hard to actually comment on him. He is a really good teacher but he is really harsh on people sometimes. He made a girl almost cry the very first day of class. He is like the soup-nazi, if you address him the wrong way he will snap and start to mock you. His class is pretty funny though.
let me know what other classes he IS teaching so i can take him again! clearly the best.. if u hear otherwise its cuz they're probably retarded. no offence.
hes funny as hell, he knows what hes talking about, and he explains it nice and slow. yea he does kinda make fun of people now and then, but thats usually if you act dumb. he tells you how to get a good grade, all you have to do is listen to him.
he goes slow and is repetitive. the tests are kinda hard. he's a funny professor though. duzn't really answer questions all that much.
First, he's very funny, makes class interesting. His tests are tricky if you don't listen to him and take notes. Study his notes! Do what he tells you! Make the models, read the textbook and study every other day! You'll definitely get an A! Not hard but definitely not easy. Take him if you can!
he's an okay teacher... dont even bother to go to his classes... he constantly REPEATS things so much and is extremely unhelpful after class and during the whole class. The whole class is friggin scared of him so that's why no one bothers to ask any questions
20Q's, 3 exams, super easy and basic. in the end u get a monsterous curve. if u plan on cutting class then dont complain if u get liek a C. in order to do well in chem u gotta take notes and be commited to the material. ull get an A if u pull 85's on ur exams and do well in recitation and lab. sarra will never help ne1 so juss do the work and study

hes ok, but he can be mean. but they make class more fun. i thought he was harder than brown. but if you're good with structures and rxns take him
he likes to repeat things, so he goes slow in the beginning. then at the end, he rushes through all the material so it's not too wonderful for the final. i know i bombed the final, but he really curves a lot. got an A =)
his tests are okay, kinda confusing. the work is manageable, and his tests are straight from the notes. study hard and you'll do well.
Phenomenal...just do the work and be ON IT...you'll get an A.
This guy goes slow at the beginning of the semester and once the time comes around for the 3rd test...BOOM! - you fail. His first exam is good but once you hit orgo...the material gets hard and so do his exams.
great teacher, explains material well, not sure about helpfulness, i never needed any clarification; its a chem class, obviously, its not gonna be a breeze, if you put in the effort, you will do great, hes also hilarious ENTENMANS!
tests are hard, esp.if he adds stuff he didnt go over...his lectures are hard to hear if you dont sit in the front of the class b/c he wont speak louder. if you dont read, your gonna FAIL...
DO NOT TAKE HIM!!! you're better off taking brown, cause even if he's hard, at least he teaches. sarra can't teach, half the stuff on the tests we didn't cover and he doesn't have office hours. if you have to take him, then go to brown's lectures but make sure you have sarra's notes.the only way you'll pass
He is way too sarcastic for his own good. All he does is zip by reactions without explanations. The worst thing about him is that if you ever need help or clarification on something, he is the last person you should go to. When you talk to him, its a constant struggle and you always have to be defensive. If you take him, read the textbook.
never went to class - found it pointless. his lectures revolve around nothing and he TRIES to be funny which he fails at most of the time. if you ever need help, you always have to do so in a defensive matter. his tests are easy though- very straightforward. read the chapter, and then get someone's notes. you'll pass. he curves big time in the end.
Organic chem is difficult enough already, and if you're stuck with this teacher, he is no help whatsoever. He's sarcastic, and doesn't care about anyone. My biggest suggestion is to get a 60 on the first test and just forget about the rest of them.so if u pass the shortest and easiest test, you can relax the rest of the term.
Sarra is a funny guy who makes u smile and learn. All the people who wrote previous comments rated Sarra as a bad professor just becuase they probably didnt get an A. You should definitely read the book and NEVER fall behind. You should memorize most of the reactions. The key to success in orgo is to stay on top of things and to read the book!!
sarra is alright. hes all abotu mechanisms so if youre good with taht, easy A. brown is all about true/false and info questions. i took brown for orgo 2 and got an A-, took sarra for orgo 3 and got an A- also. It doesnt matter who you take. Both teach opposite things in chem and are both decent. Orgo is hard in general. But i do find mechs easier.
the way he teaches is fine, the material is difficulot so no matter who u take the course requires effort. read the book, answer the qs and keep up as much as u can. he's not around for extra help but i thought the exams were doable. he;s no different than Brown except for the fact that he writes his notes on the broad and uses no powerpoint
Great for Inorganic, fair tests. Horrible for organic, tests much harder than Browns. not to mention Brown is a fantastic teacher.
Very sarcastic and funny. Will stroll in the room and his first words will always be "Hi, how are you?" He's decent a lecturer and fair on exams. If you're failing, you're simply lacking discipline.
I don't like how he teaches, but as long as you listen to his lectures you should get a decent grade. I don't think he curves much either because I did pretty well on all his test and ended up with a B+. Take him if you have enough time to just study chemistry/orgo and nothing else.
Sucks as a teacher, doesnt help you out. Really sarcastic. Tests were ok if you have NOTHING else to do but read and study chem..the first half is easy, the last half is almost impossible. Dont take him! Especially not in the morning.
the only thing i can say is take Brown instead. Sarra can't teach. Brown is way more helpful. the material is hard anyway but Brown makes it look easier, specially chem 3.
the thing with sarra is that u always have to pay attention and be on top of ur game. honestly if ur taking this course than you should be like that already, considering mostly pharmacy students or pa students take it and this is gonna be what the rest of their lives focus on. try and sit in the front and pay attention to what he says
Can't teach to save himself, but gives very fair tests. Reads right out of the text. Great Curve. I think for this course he is the better of 2 evils.
He has a weird personality, but definitely teaches well. He makes organic chemitry interesting. But u had better read before you go to the class and read notes after that. His test is not always easy.
bring a cup of coffee, otherwise it will be hard to stay awake. he brings one too, to keep himself awake from his own boring lecture. but great grade inflation.
He is the best in chemistry department. I loved organic chemistry because of him. He makes it so interesting. He makes a lot of jokes how can you sleep in his class. Get good notes and study them and easy A. I got an A by studying his notes. His exams are so easssssy but final is little bit tricky.
lets be honest orgo isnt easy. but do exactly what he says and youll do well, read before class, rewrite notes, read after class, and do practice problems. i know it seems hard, but if you make a routine it isnt that bad. never fall behind because once you do, its hard to keep up. otherwise he's a pretty nice guy and cares about his students
To be honest Dr. Sarra is probably the best professor I've met at St. John's to date. He knows his material and is a very smart man. His tests I found a little difficult, but that happens. He definately also inflates grades. very smart man. I hope to have him for medicinal chemistry.
You have to read the book, do all the practice problems in the book, and constantly review. If you're a smart person, you can get an A by studying. If you're not a smart person, you probably won't get an A unless you devote a great deal of time for this class. Study every day, even on weekends. Go to class so you can find out what's important.
It's not an easy course, you have to study hard after every class and know your material inside out. His tests are fair, and even if you don't get the grade you were hoping for on the test, he definitely curves at the end! Sarra is super entertaining, makes chem interesting and you will laugh in class! And he makes fun of students that ask for it..
Chem is not an easy subject, so it's obvious you need to read and do problems. Prof Sarra is an alright lecturer. Some days are better than others. At the beginning of any topic, he moves rather slow, but it's doable. Tests are never the assigned date, but they include more info. Tests are ok - watch for what he stresses in class.
no powerpoint notes, his tests are easier than other chem. professors so that wen u take the final, which is departmental, u r sooo LOST!!!better study a LOT on ur own if u wanna good grade
Everyone who rates Sarra poorly is just a hater cause they failed or did really badly. For the most part, Sarra teaches you what you need to know- the only thing is that he goes slow in comparison to the other professors so you have to stay ahead especially at the end of the year in order to be ready for the department wide final
Not an easy course however the lectures are clear and very easy to understand. He explains and teaches the material in a way that makes it easy to absorb and understand. Had him twice and did well each time. Possibly one of the best teachers ive ever had and by far the best porfessor at St. John's.
He's not very good at teaching general or organic chem. His tests aren't easy but do able. They're also based on his notes and what he says in class. He does give a curve at the end of the semester, how much? I don't know. He teaches directly from the textbook, even "quoting" from it.
Loves Orgo. Jokes around a little. Tests are unfair. Lectures are precise. Says hi to us. Usually late. Tells you at the very beginning to read ahead. I didn't read ahead, got lost, got two 60's. Started reading ahead and by some twisted magic I can't explain, I can finally answer questions in class. He won't help, but he won't hurt. It's up to you
such a bad teacher, must learn the material on your own. he says to read ahead before you come to class because he doesnt teach the material very well. he just writes a lot of reactions on the bored but doesnt explain them. dont take him!
Extremely fun class if you know Chemistry and are willing to pursue a career related to the science. Yes, he does require you to comprehend each and every single thing that he draws on the board, but it really comes down to the student's motivation: either you read the book and do well, or you avoid reading and fail tests. I loved this guy's jokes.
Second time taking Dr. Sarra, and it was great! Inorganic was actually harder for me, but he did a good job explaining organic. Go to class and pay attention, study hard from the book, do problems, and you'll be fine. The last weeks are a mad dash to finish the curriculum so stay on top of things!
Prof, Sarra is cool.I am not good with chem. and never liked it but ended up w/ B- in both of his classes. He does a great job teaching you synthesis of the reactions tat you need to know. His exams are not meant to be tricky but they are a little specific.Don’t need to come to class.Had him for chem. I and II and heard that he is easier then Brown.
he's actually a really good professor who teachers you everything you need to know. for his exams, study his notes as well as the textbook, but i honestly think his notes were more helpful since he takes the time to show you all the mechanisms. his tests are straightfoward but it does take him a while to give them back. overall, im glad i took sarr
He is a good teacher. He summarizes topics from the textbook and focuses on the important material rather than just having slides with useless information. If you go to his class, and take notes and read the assigned pages that he tells you to, then you will be fine.
ok i don't know why there is so much negative stuff about dr sarra on dr brown's comments. dr sarra is a great professor and if you go to class, study hard from the book, and do some questions, a good grade is definitely possible! i wasn't too thrilled with taking orgo, but dr sarra made it fun (don't get me wrong, the material can be tough).
hes late to class everyday. have to read the book ahead of class or hes so confusing. hes extremely random and quirky, its quite scary at times. decent at teaching despite being confusing. most of his exams are directly from the notes but once in a while he pulls out questions that makes no sense. does curve, takes lab/final/hw into consideration
can be intimidating, weirdly funny but still funny, tests mostly straight from notes and conceptual, must read ahead to understand lecture, doesn't use powerpoint, always late and ends class occasionally early yet still covers everything
Just take as notes in class. All his tests are just based on what he puts in the notes. He tells you that you have to read the textbook but you really don't need it, use the textbook I you don't understand something. Weird sort of guy though, he is a decent professor, in my opinion he is better than Brown.
he is very good professor..go to class and jot down everything he says is important...gauranteed to be on the test..funny at times...comes late to class everyday..let us leave early..yet teaches everything...reading the text book and doing the problems will really help you on the test...possible to get an A in organic chem in through class.
He's not that bad. Can definitely be scary at times and will embarrass you in front of the class. Just don't talk and take good notes. I would recommend the textbook for sample problems because it will help you on his exams. What he taught during the semester will somewhat not help you for the final.
TOOK FOR CHEM2 ND HATED IT. CHEM'S NOT MY SUBJECT BUT IF LIKE MYSELF U DIDNT GET THE BASICS IN CHEM 1 UR DOOMED. NO REVIEW OR ATLEAST NOT ENOUGH. I WD AS SOON AS I COULD
Great professor. def better than brown, class was always interesting, didnt just read out of book or slides, uses chalk board alot with GREAT examples, you must UNDERSTAND it, dont just memorize. and don't wait till the night before to study ;)
This guy is way easier than brown and don't pay attention to what others say about him. Just copy his notes and everything he says and study from the notes. His tests are literally from the notes, only use the textbook to read ahead and to go over things you don't understand. I got a 96 on my first orgo test by doing that.
Yo, he's the man. Simply said. Better than Brown. Mad random, mad funny... and mad brilliant.
i took sarra for gen chem and orgo. if you're rating him poorly it's because you didn't study. you don't have to study everyday, but make sure before tests you do read through the chapters & for orgo you DEFINATELY have to memorize and understand the reactions. he's a great teacher though and he really knows his stuff he explains things really well
He's a good professor. The problem wasn't him, it was the subject. I am terrible at chemistry. The trick is to read all the chapters. Read the chapters over 2-3 times before each test. Make sure you understand the concepts, mechanisms, reactions, etc. You should take the textbook to class, so that it's easier to understand the lecture.
The most boring subject in the world. It's useless. Don't bother going to class. Lecture is useless. Memorize textbook. Tests are pointless for chemistry. Nonetheless, you have to do well in the lecture exams or else your GPA will drop by 1.0. Drop this course if you hate it.
Very intimidating and condescending teacher but teaches very well. He gives great curves on tests, but don't expect him to help you outside of class.
With class averages of 63, 67, 54 and with such an amazing curve that more than half his class got a C+ or lower on their final grades, who could complain!? Amazing guy! Does not answer emails and never at his office, it is easy to see why everyone loves him so much. All joking aside, it is virtually impossible to do well in this class.
Worst teacher ever. You have to teach yourself from the textbook in order to PASS the final. Tests are horrible.. and its true the class averages are in the 50's. Highest grade on the test was like an 80!! HORRIBLE.
Can't teach. Horrible tests. Half the class probably got a C or lower as their final grade. Asked around and so far no one I know got an A.
If you go to his lectures (which you have to b/c theres no slides) and write down everything he does you'll do okay. If you don't understand something hes going over hell do it again on the board until you get it. Not the nicest man, and he's not often available for office hours. &to those other people chem avgs are always that low - hence CURVE
If you're in his class, just pray everyday that you do well. Most of the students get D's and C's. There are several students who got B's and A's. I'm very unlucky because I only know the students who got A's in his class. They're the types who love school but hate the real world or they take Adderall to boost their performance during exams.
