He's definitly an eccentric but a great teacher.....has you laughing at times, really gets into his teaching
He is one of the best professors in PCC. His class is always interesting. He gives a lot of tips for exams, just remember to lookout for his hand touching/pulling his ear when he says something important. ^_^
Hysterically funny at times... really good natured, easy class, great films
He's a good teacher, don't get me wrong, but he is really touchy with the essays. Watch out, not that easy.
This guy is a really compelling and dynamic film teacher. He's obviously a bit jaded, because he makes a lot of sarcastic comments that reflect his perception of college students as children. But he's very knowledgable, and will go out of his way.
This teacher is awesome! I cannot stress how easy the class was. I would leave during the movies and show up at the end of class when he took roll. Final is open notes. AWESOME.
Great teacher and very understanding. Do your work and you should pass the class.
I would recommend for anyone to take this class if you'd like a teacher who will go out of his way to help you learn!
very passionate about film, lectures are interesting. he grades tough on essays though. his film noir class was my favorite taken at pcc so far.
he's a good teacher and he does this funny carol burnet thing w/ his ear when he had a point he wanted us to kno...b/c it would be on our midterm or final...
Don't even have to listen to him talk in lecture. Really boring. Show up at end of class to sign roll sheet and get your attendance points. Just don't screw up on midterm, I got a C on it, and it ruined my chance for easy A.
Just pay attention to the main points he gives on his lectures (hell give a signal to wats important, for my class he tugged his ear). Dont fall sleep during the films.. not like hell wake you but theyre what your tested on. Do this and get A on test = A.
very easy class. you watch movies that are old and long. If you stay awake you'll do fine on test. Test are easy, there straight from lecture and movies. He tells you what is on the test. One take home essay; pretty much the whole class got an "A" on it. just go to class and you'll get an "A".
this teacher is easy and the class is really interesting if you're into earlier films. he is very clear and specific with the topics and tests so he won't leave you guessing with what is in the tests. there's no hw's except for the research paper... an easy research paper.
Professor Sierra was awesome! He knew what he was doing in terms of teaching the stuff, and even though he's not teaching this particular class anymore, he's an awesome teacher and a funny guy
If you show up everyday you can EASILY get an A. He's kinda goofy, but its just because he's so passionate about film. The only homework is a SUPER SUPER easy paper.
what a hardass
Very knowledgeable of all decades of film. He is very through about the films and the materials. An easy class to sit through, only occasionally un-interesting movies to watch.
He's a nice teacher. The essay assignment is quite easy.Just take notes, esp. when he is holding his ears, and u'll be fine.Exams are open notes or open book or both, but read the book before exams. The films are quite interesting. The class is also not boring.
Very passionate about the course. Midterms and Finals are the only things that you should be worried about. Just read the book and take notes and you'll do just fine. The essay was very very very very easy. Other than that, just sit back, relax and enjoy the movies. :)
Amazing. I loved his 7A course so much I waited until he taught 7B in the winter just so I could have the pleasure of being in his class again. Just like everyone said, its an EASY course and he picks great films. Read, take good notes, stay awake in class and you'd have to TRY to get anything less than an "A".
Very Passionate about this course. The midterm and final are based on his notes in class, movies, and book. If you do what he recommends(which is not hard at all) you'll get an A.
Professor Sierra is awesome. He really knows his film material and is pretty funny. He shows many interesing films and almost all of them are worth while. If you show up to class, take notes, and pay attention to the movies this class is an easy A.
Fantastic teacher. He knows his stuff, is passionate about it and wants to teach you. He goes the extra mile to help all students and wants you to succeed. This is what a teacher is supposed to be! Good sense of humor too.
really funny guy who just wants everybody to know how cool movies are will help you with just about any problem and remember to pay attention when he tugs his ear
If you want to get an easy A. This is a class of you. He is easygoing, has a good sense of humor, cool teacher etc.
Mr. Sierra's an awesome teacher! He really goes out of his way to make the class interested & he has a great sense of humor. If you go to class everyday, take notes, read the book, & watch all of the movies, there is no way you can't get an A. And the research paper he assigns is easy & interesting. A great class to & teacher to take!
I don't know what Shorty's deal is. Sometimes he's helpful and sometimes he's not. It becomes exhausting to try & figure out when he's in a good mood so that you can ask him a question. He made a mistake, but decided to tell us off instead of himself. Good grief!
Great professor passionate about film. I learned a lot from his class. Very laid back teaching style and allows students to voice their opinions. Pretty simple class, just watch movies and answer questions about them. Easy A.

I thought he was hilarious. For me it was an easy A. The material was interesting and he made it fun.
Easiest class ever! Sierra is great! Funny and very helpful. Tests were open notes. Just show up to class, take the notes and enjoy the film. Paper was very easy!
Easy, open book & notes for TESTS.
He's fun, and easy going. And so was the class. Only 2 tests and 1 project. Easy A.
easy project...midterm and final can be easy if u watch the entire movies and pay close attention to ALL his lectures and READ the BOOK...no ext. crdt...but knows a lotta bout film history and can have interestin discussions...movies he showed were alrite...70% interestin..20% boring and long 10%hard to understand
funniest teacher, just make sure you are on time and you do not use your cell phone in class.
This teacher has to realize that this is PCC and not UCLA. His class is easy, however, he always bring sup on how courses are going to be down at UCLA. Shameful.
Funny, charming, and fairly easy! What more do you want? He makes it clear what will be on the exams. Open note exams too!
the best guy at pcc.Hes so funny. class is based on what u want 2 do... he does not care; come dont come, fall asleep, make out its all up 2 u. P.s. hes allergic to cellphones so dont use them!!
Extremely easy, all you do is watch movies. He lectures before he begins the movie, you take notes, and tests are open note. Great guy with a lot of enthusiasm.
Great teacher- excellant choice of films and very insightive. Highly recommend him! He's very funny (yes he knows he looks like Joe Pesci) and you can get by without reading the book if you're a good note taker. Dont be an ass on your cell phone either- he warns you enough before he kicks you out.
fun class and interesting professor. sierra really knows and loves the films he shows in class. the essays can be a little tedious, but not difficult if you have decent writing skills. he's a friendly guy and always replies to emails if you have any questions. i'd highly recommend the class, he introduced me to a lot of great films.
Open notes! Straight forward! Interesting meterials.
Easy class with a very funny, interesting guy. Sierra is an easy A, but you will still learn a lot from him. His is tht film class to take!
contemp film history was a great class. Some good movies, some bad movies. Very easy teacher, just read, watch the films, and TAKE NOTES. Nice guy too.
Awesome teacher. Very straight forward. Fell asleep through most the boring films he showed, but just show up to class, take good notes, do the project & you'll pass!
great teacher and extremely knowledgable about film. he shares his personal experiences and has a good sense of humor. treats students like adults. the essays can be a little challenging and he grades a little toughter since it is an english class. but quizzes are easy and the films are enjoyable. film noir was especially interesting. great class!
Great Guy, very down to earth. open note tests, just take notes and watch the movies!
Class consists of three things Midterm, Research paper, and Final. You dont need to attend every class, mainly go for lecture which is thrity minutes and leave. If you have netflix its great they have every movie we watch. OPEN NOTES on everything. Great teacher, great humor.
Very easy class. He is very passionate about the movies that he shows and very knowledgable. Take good notes, show up for the midterm and final and turm in one essay. Easy A. I never read the book, just photocopied what was important and brought it to class during the test since they were open notes. Great teacher.
prof. sierra is great. this was the 3rd class i had him for. i didn't like this one as much as his ENG 49 A and B classes. he doesn't expect much from students, not even that they speak english. can be condescending, but only because so many slackers take the class. for serious film lovers, take his english (film as dramatic literature) classes.
The most fun class ever. A little bit of lecture, then you watch a movie. All the tests are open note. He really explains a film's context and that helped me enjoy watching it even more.
very funny teacher! his class is very fun! his test are open book and open notes! :)
Very nice guy, fun class. Has a great sense of humor, and is a pleasure to write for. Obviously passionate about film, and gives fine insight into the course material. I wish he taught English 1B!
I took Sierra last winter session and he's a wonderful professor. He's very passionate about film and extremely funny. I recall the final was open note. This class is a definite easy A.
Really great teacher -- funny, intelligent, dedicated. I don't think he's easy, just teaches an interesting subject so well that you learn a lot and you learn it well.
AMAZING GUY! He is very entertaining and laid back, not to mention the funniest teacher ive ever had! He really has a kind heart and will help you if you need it. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Good teacher, nice guy. Easy A. Tests are open note. He gives you partial notes online and you fill stuff in. It's a huge help if you take notes on a laptop and use it on the test (way easier to find things). The paper is really easy, too.
You watch movies. He explains them. Form your own opinion and write it with some cohesion. Pass the class. The A is easier to get if you actually attend and enjoy yourself watching the movies. He's a cool guy and recommended if you wanna get back in the college groove.
One of the funniest professors I had at PCC, and one who is really passionate about his craft. He can say things that are condescending, especially to those who fall asleep or talk during class, but if you're respectful, you'll be fine. Take good notes, he makes it easy, and his class is an easy A.
Hilarious teacher. I took this class during the summer and didn't struggle at all. Very easy class all you do is take notes during his lecture everyday and watch old films. 1 midterm, 1 paper, and the final. I got an 'A' on all three items. Test are open book and note so how can you fail! Paper is extremly EASY. He grades VERY fairly. Take him!
Easiest class I've taken. Funniest teacher I've had. Watch films from 50's-80's every class for about 2 hours, some notetaking. Great relaxing class (lights off just like at movies) by just watching films. You will get an A in class if you take notes and watch films. 2 tests and 1 project which are easy. Wont regret this class.
Sierra is a good instructor who shows enthusiasm for the subject matter. You really don't have to study much to do well on the exams, provided you take notes in class and watch the movies.
Loved this class! The teacher is really enthusiastic about what he teaches and makes it fun. Take notes and you will be fine for the tests and the one project that he assigns.Take him!
Very witty smart professor. He is great to take for any class and is willing to help those in need. He makes the class interesting and fun. Take him!
The class was one I loved being in. Who can ask for more classic film and a great professor with good humor to teach it. The notes were fun to take and the way he teaches makes the work so easy, you cant fail.
Great and FUNNY professor. Lectures kind of quick so I suggest you take a recorder and listen to recording to prepare for tests. You can't go wrong. tests are not hard.He lectures 30 mins and we watch a movie after. Exams are based on lecture and movies. 1 assignment VERY EASY (watch a movie and it's remake) take him you wont regret it!
I so loved going to his class. Professor Sierra is funny and makes his class enjoyable. One midterm, a research paper, and the final - all easy. He wants you to pass, just go to class, take good notes, take a look at the book, and for Pete's sake, stay until the end of class - he makes it worth your while AND you'll have watched a great movie.
He is a funny man. Very nice too! He lets you have open notes and book for MIDTERM AND FINAL which is GREAT! :] If he goes over a term and ask if anybody knows the word..and some ppl would raise their hand, he would happily go over the definition. he gets straight to the point. Half of the semester is silent films the other half is sound.
prof. sierra rocks! everything is open note, open book open everything short of asking the prof what the answer is. .hell u can even just stay for the lecture..sign ur name...bounce and rent the movie from blockbuster and watch from ur own home! and the honeys that go to class are hot!
Sierra is a goofy professor. His class consists of 30 minutes note taking and a movie. His movies are very interesting so there's no reason you should leave. The exams are open notes and open book, so you can't possibly fail! There is also a research paper which he grades very generously. Take his class, respect him, watch his movies, and get an A.
Great professor, really knows what he is talking about. From the beginning tells you what is needed in the class, he expects effort on your behalf. DO NOT fall asleep during lecture, or the films, DO NOT have the phone turned on, just do your work and you'll have tons of fun learning early film history.
30 minute lectures, a 10 minute break, and then the film. Makes the topic interesting...I even considered changing my major from nursing to film. The early silent films can be a bit boring, but once you're past that, it's great. Highly recommended.
Respect him and watch the interesting movie. Selling the book for 50$ called "Contemporary Film History". E-mail: [email protected]
He loves films and he expects you to enjoy what he thinks is good (which it really is)So if you're a film enthusiast you will enjoy his class. If you don't you simply ruin his nerves by leaving his class early, before the films are started or over. He knows how to enjoy a film and also teaches the same wonderful feeling to his students.
I was an ESL student, and it was my first time to take GE class which is his class. I was kind of afraid cus my English was not that good. However, he was kind to ESL students. I enjoyed his class a lot! I loved his class....I really recommend you to take it!!!! if you read books and take notes and watch movies, you will be fine! cus even I got A!
easiest class ever. summer 10, 3hr class, all we did was take like 10-20 min notes. then watched a movie the rest of the time. make sure you do the assignment because he basically shows you how to do it, correctly. absolutely passionate about this subject. understands the generation today and incorporates it in class alot.
took him for summer 10 intersession. take notes for the first 20 to 30 minutes of class then 10 minute break then shows the film. dont buy the book. just photocopy the pages, take good notes, and watch the movies. they are pretty good. research paper is easy. you can even use your laptop for notes.
Wonderful, passionate professor. He makes the class very easy for us and gives us many chances so that we can pass his class. All you do is take notes and watch movies. And he lets you use the book and notes for the test and final. He truly makes the class enjoyable for his students.
paper 30% midterm 30% and final 40&. there is no curve and extra credit. the midterm and final are hard even its open notes and open book. he was WAY easier before when he used to let students use laptops (but not anymore!)
The class is setup where failing is literally impossible. Grade depends on midterm, research paper, and final. All of which are extremely easy, plus the midterm and final are open notes and open book. He can be paranoid and easily angered at times, and he seems to treat ESL students unfairly... but I'm willing to accept that for such a easy class.
You have to pay attention during his lectures and watch the movies. Midterm, Research Paper, and Final are all easy. Watch out though, he is condescending and will embarrass you if you leave early or walk in late. He IS funny though! The movies shown were amazing and thanks to him, I am in love with the old genres of film. Yay for Sierra! Take him.
Although I wasn't particularly happy with my grade in the course, I would strongly recommend this class in a heartbeat! It's an easy and fun class to take even in the summer. Mr. Sierra is very passionate about film history. The class comprises of a midterm, film paper, and final. Super cute teacher! :)
Funny professor. Very knowledgable about film. Goes beyond the other professors in the range and variety of films shown. Relaxing & easy class. 2 Open book/note tests & an easy film review. How can you not get an A. Great professor not just because he is easy though.
Easy! 1st half of class is lecture, 2nd half is a film. Ur grade is only based on a 2pg paper (MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS), the midterm, and final(which are both open-book¬es). He constantly repeats things b/c ppl email him from missing class (a little annoying). I only used the txtbk for the midterm&final so i borrowed it from a friend.
His class is probably the easiest class in PCC. All the exams are done open book and open notes, and the research paper is a complete joke. The only thing I didn't like was his condescending and often times rude behavior. He will literally point you out to the whole class for getting up to use the restroom. Easy A, take him for your Art req.
He is an amazing professor! He really wants us to do well in this class. Maybe sometimes he is a little bit unreasonable if he is in bad mood. But overall he is helpful and knowledgeable! Take him, you won't regret!!
Easy class. Ended up with an A. Just show up, take a lot of notes and you're guaranteed an A. All tests are based on notes and it will be open book and notes.
Professor Sierra is awesome. Don't come to his class wanting to socialize with your friends or he'll call you out BAD. If you have a passion for film like I do, this class will be great for you. Grades are based on notes, text, and movies shown. He only gives a midterm and final, but the lecture is awesome and movies are great, so try to attend!
Easy A. DON'T leave during the movies, they're actually quite interesting. Most questions cme from the movies so you'll have to watch them to get the answers right. Take notes-you will use them on the tests. One midterm, one EASY paper, one final. Recommended.
Easiest class! DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. It is totally not necessary and you can get an A in the class w/o it. His lectures are very fun and interesting as he has a lot to say about film. He literally gives out 90% of the midterm and test answers to you during lecture so you better come. You have to be profoundly retarded to not get an A in this course.
Fairly easy class. However, NOT as easy as other reviews make it seem. You HAVE to stay for the movies & you MUST read the online readings. He gives out "some" answers for the midterm/final. Not all the ones he gives you will actually be on the test. Fun class, funny professor, but DONT go into the class w/ the mentality that its an easy A.
Take this class. Seriously. This is what your grade is based on: 3 essays and 5 reading quizzes. We watch a new film noir every week, and Prof. Sierra is super laid back and all around hilarious. If you don't want to do the assignments, don't take this class, but really they aren't much work at all.
Very interesting class. It is not as easy as the other reviews i read said but it is pretty easy.YOU DO NOT NEED THE BOOK! ... at least i didn't ..He gives out some of the answers on the finals in class so i suggest you show up.very funny.down to earth professor.i recommend.
He can come off as condescending sometimes, don't take it personal cause it's not. He's funny, direct, and engages you into the subject and history behind the movies and makers. His tests are usually open notes. Just read them at least once so you're not looking through all of it during the exam. Took Foster too, I say Sierra is better.
The 7A class may be a bit more detailed. Note down what he tells you to note down, or everything and buy the book. Don't be lazy on this one. Get the A. 2 tests, one easy paper. Open note/book although sometimes hard to find answers
Loved this class! All you need to do is attend class/watch the movies he assigns and take notes. He tells you everything that will be on the tests. Great professor, very funny, and very knowledgable.
This professor is amazing! He was incredibly funny, really had a love for film, and knew all there was to know about it. Highly recommend taking this class over fosters if you love film. The plus side is you don't have to buy fosters book new also! Just sit back, take some notes, and watch some great films.
You will LOVE this teacher! Very funny, and you can tell he really know his stuff. His lectures are very easy and fun to listen to. Many time he will hint out the mid term/ final answers during the lectures, so prepare! Your grade will be based of a mid term, essay, and a final. The tests are open notes/book, so don't sweat! Easy A, take him.
Ridiculously easy class. He tells you what will be on the test as he lectures. He can be really condescending at times by talking to the class like they're 5-year-olds, but I guess he is just frustrated that a lot of people somehow manage to fail this class.
One of the coolest professor. He always make jokes and share personal experience to entertain and at the same time he has a extremely detailed note coverage makes along with online proof reading. Tests are 100% from the notes/book/online reading. If you have all 3 of these prepared, this class would be extremely entertaining and easy.
Professor Sierra's class could not be any easier. I definitely liked the fact that there was no homework compared to the other TA teacher. Go to class, stay for the movies, jot down the notes, and review before the test. THERE IS NO REASON YOU SHOULD NOT GET AN A IN THIS CLASS!
I've taken three film classes with Sierra because not only is he awesomely cynical but you have to be a complete idiot to get anything lower than an A. He makes all of his papers and quiz material extremely clear to follow. This class is even enjoyable for non-film majors.
Super easy. show up to class. take some notes. stay for the films. only 2 tests (midterm and final) both are open note and open book. and one extremely easy paper. no reason for anyone to get lower than a B. He's a no BS kind of guy. He knows what he is talking about.
Fantastic class. You watch so many great films, and he gives great in depth back story to each. 5 quizzes, which are super easy, and 3 papers which are very manageable. Easy, and a very awesome guy, great sense of humor.
Midterm, Final, & Paper. Paper is extremely easy, emphasize the extremely. Midterm & final are both open notebook & book. Come to class & write down EVERYTHING he says. Highlightunderline the ones that he says will be on the test. Print out the class lecture notes instead of copying it from the screen. Stay for the movies, q's will be on tests!
He gives a lecture every class, and you watch a movie after that. You need to attend class (even if you have seen the movie) in order to take notes (he tells you what you need to know for the exams). 2 exams, and one research project. Easy class, he is sarcastic and funny. You need to read the book.
I've taken both of his film classes and he really knows about the genres and films he is talking about. ALSO, if you plan on not coming to class and have no interest in film don't take this class. Why would you not want to come to a class where you watch just watch films? The essays are not even hard because he lays out the parts that he expects..
Prof. Sierra is a nice, outgoing professor who expects good papers from students! 3 4-6paged essays w clear instructions, be sure to do ANALYTICAL instead of reiterating plot. INTRO paragraph, THESIS paragraph, BODY paragraphs, and CONCLUSION paragraph. Quizzes are okay! Two books he assigned can be found online PDF for free. Good luck:)
He is a hilarious and pretty sarcastic (in a funny way) professor. Very knowledgeable thus, this has made my lesson very interesting. You are allowed to bring your laptops for notes during the exams, lectures are important, and one Research paper. No code required for textbook. Gets annoyed by people who uses their cellphone in during the movies.
An amazing professor. Unfortunately I did not take his Theater Arts 7A class, but 7B was an amazing class. As we all know professor Sierra said that he is not going to teach anymore, however it was great pleasure to be in his class. Hated when some mentally challenged students used their phones for texting, was crystal clear and very funny)))))
I had this professor years ago for English 49B and one of the theater arts film classes. He was the best! His film noir class was so much fun, and I still remember it fondly almost ten years later because now I'm a huge TCM classic film fan. His classes were easy As and he allowed us to do revisions on papers.
I wanted to take Foster but ended up taking Sierra. He is VERY rude. He talks SO fast during his lectures making it difficult to keep up & write down everything u need. He asks the stupidest smallest details about a movie or person on the test. He criticizes this generation so much & talks to u like ur an idiot. show up & don't dare use ur phone!
Prof. Sierra is an interesting man; nonetheless, he is pretty awesome. Definitely knows his stuff. Always there for me when I emailed him regarding essays. Show up to every class ON TIME (he hates ppl who are late), complete all 3 essays on time and do your best on the quizzes. Overall, if you can write essays you can get an A. Fun class for sure.
