his lectures do not cover the text's material, tests are hard and include questions that were slitly mention in the class discussiona. he is not teaching and it seams he just coming into a class for having fun only for himself. do not take him if you want to learn economics and if you respect youself.
Stendard is quite the character to say the least. His class is totally unconventional, more or less anything goes. He definitely is a good guy and is willing to help out students, especially because of his unusuall teaching method. Just stay on top of your work, and trust me if nothing else you'll be entertained in class!

I have learned nothing from this class. He barely talks about the topics, and doesn't seem to get any teaching done. He will give tests and assignments even when he hasn't taught the topic. I don't like how he teaches at all.
1 yeah he trys to be fun, but it never relly is directed twards teaching anything. 2. He shows up late regularly. 3. The only reson I know anything in that class is from a previous class. 4. He has to curve a ton to even pass 90% of the class. I feel he misrepresents HVCCs other teachers in quality and effectivness in teaching.
Don't take him if you actually want to learn. He is late to class everyday. He doesn't teach anything that is going to be on the tests. You have to teach yourself everything. Nice guy, but should not be a prof. He tries to make the class fun. Not much work. 4 tests and he curves them a lot. Gives extra-credit. Exempts from final. Take someone else.
If U want to learn something dont take him..he is a nice Guy teahes u nothing from the book.. then he test u on the book.He always curves his tests tons
MR.Stenad is a very smart and knowledgeable teacher and knows his stuff he'll never steer you in the wrong direction he is always there when you need him so you cant say he's never around i would suggest that you take his class every chance you get
He's a very good professor. Makes time to explain everything in a way that you can use. Has alot of business experience. Makes Economics fun!
He is a very nice guy (sweetheart) BUT he doesnt teach anything at all! He waste a majority of class time talkin about nothing! The final 10minutes he gets into lecture and by then its time to GO. If you dont get up 2 leave he will continue teaching!! Im not sure what his grades are based on but he does alot of extra credit. A waste of tuition $.
Best professor I've ever had, by far. Absolutely hilarious, but also teaches you a lot.
ok. this teacher is out of his mind!! i had him for an 8am class, he always appears to be on some kind of stimulant. hes very creepy when talking to young wemon. i had no clue as to what exactly was relavent, he doesnt teach to much. however he is willing to work with you, offer as much help as you need, repeating himself untill you finnally get it
The guy is great. He makes the class fun and interesting. The only reason people have a tough time learning the material in his class is because he doesn't give mandatory homework. He always posts powerpoints and site links with all the relevant information to his website and he is constantly reminding people where to find the information they need
Hi this is Vincent? Stenard is real cool. He introduces economics in an interesting way. His tests are easy if you read the text. Just like any class, you can?t expect to pass without putting forth some effort. Keep your head in the books. The tests are based on the readings. He helps me out till this day for any business related concerns.
He is a very good guy if you put the effort in he will listen and give you what you deserve as a grade. You should be honest with him becuase that is one thing that he will not tolorate. I got a A in the class because I followed what he instruted and and it was pretty much a piece of cake.
Mr. Stenard rocks. He is always willing to help if you don't get it. If you do get it, its great!!
Professor Stenard is an awesome teacher. As long as you pay attention in his class and you show up to his class all the time the work load is very manageable. He will not only help you with the subject matter but he will help you with personal problems as well. He is a great guy to just sit around and talk with. I highly recommend him.
He has no idea what he is doing, yes he knows economics and had a pretty interesting life but that it he teach nothing shows up to class late and then tries to teach even after class is over and you end up being late to your next class. if you want to just hear stories then hes great but if you want to learn find someone else. AN AWFUL TEACHER!!
Great class and professor!
Great Prof. gets off topic a lot but he uses real life examples and gets you involved. you have to try to fail his course he gives you every opportunity to suceed and is always available and willing to help. I would recommend this guy to anyone!
I get the feeling this professor writes his lesson plans on a napkin 10 minutes before rushing into class late(great example to show your students).Rarely uses adequet visuals which accurately depict class material.Holds students responsible for knowing material that he barely goes over.I don't know how anybody could give him a good rating
Late to class every day! Even when he tells you he is going to be early for a review session. He babbles on well past the end time making you late for your next class. If you have an option to take the class with someone else: EXERCISE THAT OPTION! He is completely unprepared to teach his class, don't worry the joke is on you if he is teaching.
Mr. Stenard is an awesome professor and a funny guy. I love his sence of humor, and he is brilliant! I think he is far too intellegent to be teaching at HVCC but I'm glad I got the chance to take his courses.
Awesome Guy..Super hard and extremely hard tests!
Stenard is a great guy. If you do the work, You'll do fine. People only think his tests are hard because they don't utilize the work he suggests in class (there isn't mandatory homework). I look forward to going to his class in the morning. Stenard is the man!!! Nobody dislikes him.
Horrible teacher. Unprepared to class. Hard tests. NOT recomended.
Mr. Stenard is the best! I miss taking his classes!
He is a really nice guy and he will help you out but his tests are really hard but he gives a lot of extra credit. i almost failed eco last semester and now he is my teacher and i currently have an A. hes just a little confusing at times.
Puts little effort into planning curriculum, goes on unneeded tangents, gives unwanted life advice, talks to/treats students like they are in cant understand basic concepts(supply+demand). Is "friendly" but in a blatantly disingenuous manner. Don't take his classes, period. The fact he had a career in economics makes these all the more inexcusable.
Professor Stenard is an awesome guy and hes really nice to talk to. He tries his best to help you with whatever you need. The class was super easy if you did the Aplia hw and read the textbook. The tests were easy too if you did the practice exams. He's a fun professor.
Awesome Professor! Wish he taught all my classes.
This Prof is the BEST! I got worried at first because he really challenges you. But if you plan and try you will earn an A.
This Prof is the bomb!
Best and easiest teacher, those of you who complain about the tests being hard really need to crack those books you bought. I never studied for the tests and still did pretty well on them. His class is not very hard. You can get an A from doing only extra credit! Points are practically handed out you just needed to put a little effort into in...
Gives a lot of extra credit so earning an A in the class is very easy. He is willing to help you with anything you bring to him. Great guy and professor.
Stennard is a great guy! He thinks outside the box. When sitting in his class your mind will naturally create vivid thoughts and view points. Do your extra credit work and you will learn more from the experience of the extra credit than from the words of a book. Do what he says and you will get an A. Show up to class ready to interact.
He's definitely an improvement from my last economics professor. He manages to simplify everything, so that anyone can pass the class. His stories are also interesting, as they do garner a few laughs, and they can be used in everyday life.
Don't go into this class without some prior knowledge. If you take this class without the slightest clue about economics this may be challenging, but if you have some previous experience/knowledge of economics this is an extremey engaging class. He is very much open to communication. Great teacher!!
Mixed emotions about this teacher. He is a great guy, but not always prepared in class. He allows students to divert the class from its educational flow, to babble about their opinions & tyrants too much. I did not learn as much as I should have, but I did manage to squeeze out an A with my own hard work and determination. He is very colorful!
A cool man who teaches economics like any others. He knows his subject and have a awesome way to grade.
Stenard isnt a bad guy! He truly does love economics and sharing stories about his life. If you go to his office hours he will help you out until you're blue in the face. He loves his students but doesnt take pity on the lazy. TONS of aplia
Great if you don't like structured classes.. Awful if you want regularly assigned homework and tests and quizzes. Too many "options".
Late to every class, Tons of unexplained sensless online Aplia homework(Way to collect grades so he can do nothing). Unorganized, does not reply to emails ever. Acts really nice and shoots buzz words and jokes at the class but he should not be a professor. This class is not for you if you like having a sensical grading system, learning, and sanity.
Great teacher, really knows macroeconomics. I never took any form of economics and he made class fun and interesting. Grading system makes for easy grade if you do the work. I liked his class so much, I'm taking him for microeconomics next semester.
Awesome Teacher!!!! Gotta take him
Really great prof, scatterbrained at times but I would take this class again, no doubt.
Stenard gave me terrible anxiety all semester long due to his lack of clarity and teaching ability. He is by far the worst professor I have been in contact with. He thinks that he is so unique with the options he provides, but he can not stay on task. Also- he will NEVER email you back. So watch out.
Although I pulled of an A. I worked for it. Some of them ranged from 40 all the way to 80 or 90 questions, and they took a while. But I have to admit. When you work through all the problems and don't just guess, you learn so much. I actually came out with a lot of knowledge. I would suggest if you can stay on top of assignments every single week.
Got to take Stenard! Hes a wizard of economics. Wish i could take his class again! Awesome
Great guy, very funny, but can be late to many classes and also unorganized. Grades heavily on aplia homework and bases the whole class on extra credit it seems.
Great teacher! One of the best professors I have had! He is always willing to help. He can get off topic easily and sometimes shows up late to his classes. All in all if you have to take Macro or Micro he is the person to take it with!
Stenard is very unique. You need to pay complete attention to his lessons, honestly read the book, and not miss a single extra-credit opportunity. Get on his good side, be real, & ask for help. I was supposed to receive a C in his class, but when I looked online, I got an A. Do your best.
Great lad, has a funny personality and is well dressed.
By far worst teacher you'll pass but if you have to take the final exam you'll worry your self into a heart attack before u take it, 0 knowledge of anything sucks at helping overall horrible choice to take him if you like to stay sane!!
If you are someone who loves clarity, which most of us students do, you will ensure that you do not take Mr. Stenard. It's a 100% online course where you read the chapters and answer mind-losing online questions so he doesn't have to grade anything. Don't understand something? Tough luck. Doesn't take attendance, relies on extra credit to pass. NO!
Very intelligent and has job credentials for miles, but not for teaching. Hilarious, and trys to make it fun. Class structured very poorly. Scattered brained. Working on Chap 4 at home and class discussion would bounce from chap 11 to 2. Not recommend if you like structure. "Did i already go over this?"- a common question in the middle of class.
Professor Stenard is very interesting. You never know what to expect when you walk into the room. He tries to be funny and relate to his students which is nice and goes out of his way to give you extra credit to pass. He is very scatterbrained and not organized which can make things difficult. Aplia gives you easy points.
If you have the chance to have Mr. Stenard do it. He is hilarious and gives great lectures but also be ready to work. He gives real life advice and relates it to the criteria which is a huge plus.
A seasoned business veteran, he knows what he's talking about and he knows how to make it understandable. His class will make you see the world in a different way, as great teachers do. The tests can be tough, but he offers more extra credit than I've ever seen. This in itself is a lesson in costs vs. benefits.
Great teacher
Very unorganized & he will make you work for your grade. however,He does give alot of extra credit and will put participation & effort into consideration when putting final grades in. Overall great guy :)
He gives a lot of tests and they're difficult but you do all the "extra credit" he gives you and you'll make up for them. He lacks organization. Don't really need the textbook for tests. He goes over whats on the tests right before you take it. Gives life lessons. Allows cheat sheets. Good prof but get ready to work.
Kinda unclear and unorganized at times, but always willing to help and gives extra credit opportunities. He's also Hilarious
Hes very unorganized and sometimes unclear but he is absolutely hilarious and will definitely help you out if you see him after class. He takes forever to grade stuff, but he posts reviews for every tests and lets you use an index card cheat sheet
Really funny and I learned a lot in his class. He also seems to be genuinely interested in his students, the first day of class he went around and introduced himself to each student and shook their hand. He is disorganized and only showed the grade for 3 of the 10 tests/projects with lower grades than they should of had (It was never fixed).
Super disorganized, but gives a lot of extra credit opportunities.. however he never posts grades in blackboard. I think he just gives everyone As in his class
Stenard is by far one of the most unorganized professor's that I have ever had. The due dates for assignments have never been made clear and when you message him for clarity plan on waiting for days. I was able to still pull out an A even though I missed a number of assignments due to the course schedule shifting repeatedly.
He is a really good teacher would definetly take again he tells a lot of jokes but its better that way because you remember things better. Some of his lectures he goes off into other areas and subjects but its inspirational and thought provoking so A++.
This was a strange experience for me. He opens the class with both barrels blazing, replied to almost all the first discussion boards and was super motivating. Then 2 weeks later you would think he died because he is nowhere to be found, emailed him twice during the semester with no replies. Plan on learning economics from Pearson.
I loved his class and i thought he grades based on the hard work and interest in the class but HELL NO was not like that at all be careful all the points matters now smh wasted my time making group studies and extra work and then ended up with a C smh
One of the most brilliant teachers @ hvcc. He is entertaining, enthusiastic & extremely knowledgeable. His class prepares you for upper level classes. He cares about & invests in his students. Read the book, do the extra credit, take advantage of his abundant office hours. His lectures change the way you look at life & decision-making.
I had Proffesor Stenard for Macroeconomics and then sought him out for microeconomics. AWESOME teacher, full of energy, enthusiastic, super funny, engaging. I was working on a side project and he was willing to take time out of his busy schedule to help me... I know for a fact that other students were touched by his ability to guide them to succeed
Great teacher and helpful. Homework was alot. But he helps you through.
He knows economics better than anyone, but shouldn't teach it. He is very disorganized, vague with instructions, doesn't explain the material well, never responds to emails, and is horrible about posting grades. Possibly the worst teacher I ever had!!!
Just do extra credit stuff. I finished with 150 points in the class and you cap out at 100. I skip homework and other work and decided to extra stuff.
A person who understands economics more than anyone. Successful businessman also. You need to work for your grade. But overall, a good class. I walked out with a high A.
No clear set of notes, hard to reach by email though he sends emails to his students. Difficult projects which are not clearly explained. He may be a good professor for some, but defiantly would go back and pick a new professor if possible.
I would recommend Stenard for any econ class. He's not the easiest professor, but the courses aren't too difficult either. Lots of extra credit opportunities. Very disorganized and may not clearly define assignments or grading criteria. More than any teacher I have ever met, Stenard is pumped to be your teacher. He really wants to inspire you.
I absolutely love Joe Stenard. He is the best in the northeast. His lectures are so so funny. He relates to the real world in so many ways. He loves his students and engages all of them in so many ways. His tests are hard but he goes over the material over and over. I want to take another one of his classes just for the heck of it.
He was nice but as the semester progressed, he rarely posted nor handed grades back so it was difficult to see where you stood in the class. The lectures and the text book barely helped with the tests, however he did assign extra credit so make sure you complete it to do your best!
Joe is a great guy overall, but not the best professor. We had zero tests the whole semester and just a few quizzes so basically the final was the only thing we had to test what we knew in his class. There's lots of group projects and just projects in general that you are given little knowledge on how to do and when the due dates are.
I had the pleasure of taking both Micro and Macro this Summer with Mr. Stenard. He is by far the best professor I have ever had in my college career. He loves class participation and loves to get debates going in class which make it that much more engaging and interactive. He also is very good at relating all terms to the real world. 10/10!!
Practical, productive homework, easy grading, and participation is the key to earn a good grade!
Great guy, really passionate in what he teaches and doesn't mess around.
There is SO MUCH work for this class. Homework, quizzes, 20 exams AND A PAPER, MULTIPLE discussion posts. It's completely unnecessary! This is a 100 class! This would be an amazing professor if your major was Economics, but if you're not an Econ major, pick someone else.
My absolute favorite professor ever!!!
Professor Stenard is a great man who truly cares for and takes pride in his students and field of study. Hes hilarious and extremely knowledgeable. Despite this, he lacks organization, doesnt give grades back, and lectures will often seem confusing to any non-Econ majors. Pretty sure I only got an A for my well-received extra credit project.
Great professor, Very knowledgeable and delivers the material in a good way. He does some activities in class which lets you understand economics in real life.
All assignments optional, but necessary to pass (based on monetary grading policy). Likes participation (get ready to read WSJ) and lectures most of the time. Not the best lecturer, but really not bad, sometimes funny. Likes to hear students thoughts and expand on them. Gives many extra credit ops, but assignments sometimes confusing, chill proff.
Joe Stenard is a nice guy and everyone likes him. But maybe as a friend not a professor. He will make you laugh but not grade your homework assignments or quizzes for weeks. You never know what your grades gonna be, I didnt know if I was gonna have a D or an A. And forget about emailing him he doesnt check it
Professor Stenard is actually not a bad teacher! He really cares about his students and he's very passionate. Definitely out of the ordinary; you have to be really on top of things if you want an A. But I learned a ton in his class and I feel like I'm better for it after surviving his class.
Alright 3 weeks into the semester and I'm convinced he's the worst teacher I've ever had. Very disorganized, and doesn't seem to be teaching anything that has to do with economics. And the funny thing is he gives no tests only the final .... I'll probbaly still get an a he's a terrible teachers
Doesn't help class and focuses on people in class not online.
Stenard is an absolute GOAT. He's funny and literally carries a burner phone on him at all times. (If you don't believe me ask him). Whenever I had the chance to take him I did, and he gives great live advice.
Amazing guy. One of the best professors I've had in my lifetime. A little scatterbrained at times but he does love economics and always knows what he is talking about. Assignments can be tough but it will help you develop a in depth view of economics and business in general
probably my least favorite professor I have had at Hudson Valley - he is disorganized and doesn't explain the assignments. Also it is just expected that you know how to use excel
He is a little disorganized and expects a lot of work from you in the form of homework, quizzes and discussion board topics. He also ads a lot of extra topics and videos. He means well and wants you to learn but its just a lot of work. From what I can tell it looks like just under half the class has dropped the course this semester.
Stenard is not for everyone, but if you have natural understanding of the real world you will ace this class. He stays after every class to help people that need it. Very funny story, video and music. That being said you need to self regulate because he only collects HW once a month. Most good students get an A. He really wants people to succeed.
Prof Stenard, is by far one of the best at Hvcc. I like the fact that he did everything to not stress us with weekly test bust instead give us homework/ library research, he collect them weekly or 2, was more than happy to help when needed. He is caring and understanding that students have a life beside college, if you do your works it is an easy A
Stenard is a genuine guy, overall very personable and funny. Grading is primarily based, at least for microeconomics, on 3 monthly projects and one final exam. But if you do well on the monthly projects and do some extra credit along the way, you may secure your A and not have to take the final. You earn your grade with the amount of work you do.
Can't control the class.
Great professor and guy! Grading is based on earning money, and a lot of extra credit! Just follow instructions, and ask questions if you're confused. He's always willing to help. Very funny as well!!
One of the best professors I Had at HVCC. The course is a ton of work, so if you arent ready to put in hours I wouldnt take his class. The homeworks are difficult but he is always in his office for help. Tests are all take home so you can work with other students. Hes a very funny guy and tries to make everything relatable. Great class!
This man knows his stuff and has real life experience, which I find important. Come in to office hours and try to negotiate assignments it may work with him. He may change the course set up during the course, do not get mad about it, go talk to him he will not crew over a student if he knows your problems that were caused by his change. Do Kiva.
Professor Stenard is the best kind of professor you will find. His lectures tie in to his real world experiences (which are often entertaining) so they are easy to pick up on. If you need clarification on anything or want to talk about an assignment he will be available. In this class your assignments have real world impact. Do the work!!
Attendance actually affects your grade. You are allowed to skip 1 class without affecting your grade. He gives out notes and there is a quiz pretty much every week. The tests were take home but answers are hard to find. He was a great teacher, very passionate about what he teaches and his students. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
For Econ 101 the amount of work that was required was ridiculous. You have to use Inquizitive which is a frustrating software that made you lose points if you got a question wrong. The one thing I liked is that he grades based on a point system, once you have a certain amount of points you pass. Overall, way too much work for an intro level class.
Prof Stenard is really nice and funny, his lectures can be entertaining but confusing. He used inquizitive as a replacement for a final and inquizitive required you purchase a digital copy of the inquizitive text book with access code or cram it in 21 days for free and he didn't update grades often.
20 Quizzes in 6 weeks. Do not take this professor. You'll thank me later
Professor Stenard offers a varied course with little overview, meaning that you can work at your own pace and get out what you put in. However, his class has no structure whatsoever, he is very slow to update grade books, and he didn't bother to update half of his due dates from his previous semester. I would not take this professor again.
Fun professor, unusual and interesting class but really doesn't teach anything. Assigns youtube videos and popular podcasts for our work and then gives higly technical quizzes so I spend most of my time on khan academy or something similar to study but then still miss questions on the quiz because you're never sure what you're supposed to know.
Doesn't respond to email; this was an online class -he didn't add a module for 3 weeks b/c blackboard confused him -then we had 6 chapters due in 2 weeks; quiz questions don't match readings; never updates grades. Has different stuff to keep you interested but its not the material in the text and I don't think I learned what I need.
We dont do much in this class. I usually take the quizzes without reading anything.
He goes off topic all the time and doesnt make any type of sense. his whole grading system is weird. and his tests dont really make a lot of sense. he takes so long to grade things and he doesnt really seem like he knows what hes doing
In 4 semesters, Professor Stenard is my favorite. He's enjoyable with funny but real stories. If you need help, he's more than willing to meet. The best grading style I've seen; Participate, do the work to get a good grade or don't, you decide. I didn't read the text but do the work. Fun&quirky. 10/10 I'd take any of his classes. Awesome guy!
He has an awesome grading system based upon how much of the assignments you do. Most are pretty easy. Get enough done and you don't have to do the final, which is tough.
Professor Stenard is AMAZING! At first I saw the syllabus and thought the learning style was a little odd, but it helped to keep me motivated and added some fun to the course. He gives videos along with some of the assignments and they are so helpful. Any time I emailed him he got back to me quickly and was very understanding of tech issues.
There was a lot of material for this class but the professor made the subject interesting. Assignments are varied but relevant to the topic. The grading structure was confusing as he used a dollar system to calculate your grade. Submissions aren't always graded in a timely manner. There was no set schedule for when assignments are due.
This professor is amazing! Some students complained that the grading is odd (which it is) you can get up to a 130% in the course not including extra credit which he will give if you go to investment club. He is also a great guy and really cares about his students. He is my favorite professor. He also has real world experience in finance!
The online platform is completely disorganized. Its set up so that chapters are bundled together in a single module, but the tests that go with the chapters aren't organized right. A test for chapter 10 shouldn't be in the chapter 1-3 module. The powerpoints are good but good luck figuring out which PowerPoint goes to which chapter and which test.
The professor has a unique grading system, but it keeps you motivated. Assignments are relevant, and the videos are super helpful. Definitely use Unstuck study and the free textbook for study prep.
He was not in class much due to personal reasons but he sets up the class so that you can do everything online. Assignments/tests don't have due dates and you can also choose to work ahead. You can choose to not do certain assignments if you already have enough points. He let me skip class when I reached my grade goal early in the semester.
