Please just don't take advantage of him; he's really cool and you don't want to mistreat the good ones and turn them to the dark side! :)

Joe is the best! I was not looking forward to taking this prerequisite, but it was a FUN class. Class is an easy A, as long as you complete the assignments you will get full credit. Joe created a great classroom environment, camaraderie between students and instructor was great! We even had a pizza party the last day of class!

I was not very interested in this class, but it was a prereq. Joseph is a laid back teacher. I enjoyed going to his classes. He tries to get people to communicate which is what the class is about, not just textbook material. I think he does a great job at it. This is not a formal classes, he is all over the place, but in a good way.

This was a good experience. I went into com100 figuring it was a waist of time and money that the school wanted out of me. It ended up begin a good class and helpful with communication. The professor did a good job at everything. He was clear about what he expected and made the class flow smoothly.

EXCELENT TEACHER

It is not one of those classes you dread going to Dr. Swaba always made classes fun. I learn best through examples and hands on activities and he does a a lot of both. I not only had fun taking his class, but I was interested in what I was learning. The assignments were easy but they did make you think. Defiantly take it just for fun if you want.

Basically how the class is set up -12 Online quiz's, 1 per chapter, 10 questions each, due once a week (Easy, have textbook close) -6 Journals (500 word responses), due every two weeks(Easy, discuss three topics from the book) -6 Online discussions (3, 100 word responses), due every two weeks(Easy, respond to a prompt/classmate -No Final

This class is easy if you actually do the work. When I took the class there were some individual assignments and some interactive assignments (class discussions etc) and there were so many people who just didn't do them. He is willing to work with you if you work with him.

Professor Swaba is the greatest. Honestly, you will not feel bored at all in his class. The course is pretty easy, but Dr. Swaba keeps it interesting. He brings real life situations into the class and helps you understand what is going on.

The perfect curriculum: combo of lecture, films, presentations, discussion board, journalling and lots of hands-on exercises and activities. Very caring, well-read, published, lifelong-learner of a professor.

During the semester we practiced various types of speeches such as informative, persuasive & free style. Every week there was some type of speech that had to be delivered in front of the class. There is also some writing that needs to be completed prior to the speech deliverance. Dr. Swaba is very helpful during the process & provides feedback.

It was my first time taking a communications class and Swaba make it very interesting . I learned a lot about myself as well, overall I would take the class again.

I took the online class. Professor responded quickly to emails when I needed clarification on assignments. The course consisted of discussion boards, quizzes, journals and a few writing assignments. The final was a reflection essay rather than an exam. Very clear grading criteria. Excellent professor!

This guy is awesome, He goes out of his way to make you feel welcome the class activities are fun. He is so cool and he is a big teddy bear!!! He makes you feel comfortable. Be honest with him and he let make up your work that you missed. A lot of writing but it is worth it. I would love to take this class over again.

You have to tell a bunch of stories in class, but everyone supports each other. I was scared at first, guess I still am, but it's a great class. I learned that stories have been around forever--before we could read and write we told each other stories.

Dr. Swaba is one of my favorite professors of all time. His class was easy enough, but you do have to turn in your assignments if you want to pass. His lectures are full of wisdom and he is very funny. He made his class very interesting. The work itself isn't too hard. Great class. I would definitely recommend him as a professor and this class!

I took Dr. Joseph Swaba COM110 for Spring2017. I think he is a very good professor, he is fair. All work assignments are based on the book, there is some reading. Quizzes almost every week but work is easy if you read chapters. I liked his class and right now I have A.

Super swell guy, taken him for COM225. Helps you get out of your comfort zone but overall a great class and wonderful teacher.

Dr. Swaba is an extraordinary and inspiring professor. He takes the time to prepare you for the speeches and provides examples. He also has a clear syllabus and is very thorough. Dr. Swaba is great at what he does and has great life lessons to share. You are taken out of your comfort zone because this class involves actual story telling but there is support along the way. Online assignments are due each week, yes a textbook is used and with good effort and participation an A is in your future. Definitely take this class!

My favorite part in this class was the TED talks. They were well selected, powerful and thought provoking.

Professor Swaba was someone I would love to teach all of my classes, and probably even go have a drink with after. He brings great insight to not only storytelling, but also to speaking in front of any audience. He is always real about situations pertaining to the class, as we as real life.

I took the online course for Spring 2024 and he was fantastic! Classwork was a good balance for being all online with no actual lecture meetings. If you are good with time management, he give you plenty of time and more if needed!
