Mr. Thompson teaches his history lectures with such passion and such energy that is very hard for not every one of his students to like history. He is available to students outside of class and he is sensitive to the needs of his students.

he is such a good teacher. I have never had such a fun history class. he loves what he does. he adds jokes to his lectures and makes it easy to remember.

REALLY Funny Guy--he curses, so if you don't like that, stay away. The time usually goes by pretty fast in his class. Knows a lot about the subject-but tests are sketchy, and we take notes on A LOT of stuff; doesn't grade on attendence; overall great!

Thompson is a very enthusiastic teacher. Class is not an intellectual examination, but dealing more with facts. He's very laid back, but you have to do the reading for tests.

Dr. Thompson is a great guy and an awesome teacher. If only all history profs were like him, I'd be a history major. If you do the work and have half a brain you should do fine in this class. He's smart and funny and over all has the vocation for teaching history in a fun and challenging way.

I think every professor should be like him. Make the class a lot of fun and interesting. He can just turn your day around and the way he says things can make you laugh at a silliest joke. The class is a lot of fun and I look forward to it everytime. Best teacher ever had for a history class.

Lectures are interesting. Humor throughout. Hard by fair tests, he lets you know what you need to study. Assignment fair & interesting. Has a real zeal for what he does. You can tell he likes to teach, and he knows he is good at it. It makes you want to take all of his clases. stories cn go long

I had the pleasure of taking Prof. Thompson's American Government two semesters ago and actually enjoyed coming to class. He is both engaging and informative and is able to make attendance worthwhile. I'd recommend this class to anyone, required or not. It doesn't hurt that he's easy on the eyes.

He is a great professor,you'll learn alot. He is a flaming liberal so if you're a conservative you might take his many anti-republican jokes to heart (i sometimes did,but i learned to ignore). There is only 3 exams..if you attend class and read the text book (and have a good memory)..you'll be fine.

This professor is awesome. He really knows his subject and keeps things interesting. Maybe he is a little stuck on himself, but if you saw him you would understand! He cares about his students and wants them to do well. Don't be afraid to ask him for help.

Very entertaining teacher. I personally like history, but others may find it a dull topic. I was never bored in his class. My only real complaint was the assigned book report on "Adams vs. Jefferson". I personally felt this book was laborious reading and had many pages of imaginary descriptive "filler" and was inaccurate in places.

He is hands down one of the best professors I have had. He actually likes his job....or does a damn good job of pretending. He is funny and easy to get along with. I would HIGHLY suggest that you take at least one class with him before you leave!!

Dr. T is the greatest professor ever! I would recommend everybody to take at least one of his classes.His lectures are very organized and easy to follow. Dr. T would answer any of your questions and if you need extra help he is always willing to help during his office hours.

Dr. Thompson rocks! He blends lots of humor into his lectures and it really helps get you involved with the discussions at hand. You will do well in his class if you put in the effort... if you don't bother to read the book or come to class you will fail misserably. You will not regret taking any of Thompson's classes.

He has a dirty mouth, and he tries to act like a teen, so be prepared for more profanity and vulgarity then you'll hear in the rest of your college classes. Thompson Makes sure you have a great time in class every time you attend. His exams are on the difficult side and he only has two so you MUST STUDY! The book report isn't too hard. I would highly recommend this professor. My only complaint with him is he's a Yankees fan. So beware.

Reading the book and studying for the tests is mandatory to get a good grade, as well as being there for the lectures! It really does hurt you if you miss a lecture. Tests are sorta tricky, but he'll do what he can to help you because it's important to him that his students do well. The book review is easy. He really does care about his students!

He expects you to do the work, read the book, memorize a few things, but its forward and explained up front, you'll know what to expect. If you do the reading, you'll do ok. He is very helpful and available to students with any concerns and help.

I took his class more than once already, and its a lot of fun. He makes students want to go to his class, but his jokes made it too much of a distraction for me to learn much. So my grade isn't that good.

Don't listen to that last person (he/she spelled "alot" incorrectly!). There isn't "a lot" of reading -- just the textbook and one other (it IS a college course, afterall!). Thompson is da bomb! His lectures are fun and his tests are VERY fair. Just take notes, read the text, write the book review and enjoy the ride!

whoever wrote on 10/1/08 that thompson often gets facts wrong, please name one because i havent found any. he is hardly political and it does not affect his teaching at all. his classes are always a must-take because he keeps you involved for all 50 minutes and you never want to miss a class. forget the haters thompson you're the best!!

This guy is a wonderful professor. He was born to teach!!! I have never wanted or thought of rating a professor before, but I thought professor Thompson deserved a kudos for his efforts. Being as objective as possible, this guy is by far the best college professor I've had. Been in and out of 2 universities before MC, and he still takes the lead. He makes the subject interesting by using ridiculous metaphors and jokes. Always willing to help. I wish he taught a wider selection of classes, I would love to take more with him.

Although Thompson is an outstanding professor, he has a bad mouth. He can be funny but his jokes are crude. (helps you remember the material though) He doesn't require you do much work, but if you want an A in the class, you have to read the textbook, memorize specific things, and study your notes. I found him to be hard yet outstanding.

I take Prof. Thompsons online class, and he is wonderful!Keeps the dicussion board going and is so helpful!But if you are looking for him to GIVE u an A...FORGET IT,you need to earn it! However, I disagree when people say he is one of the best professors at MC.He is extremely opinionated and singles out students who do not share his political ideology.He means no harm but his unneccessary comments can be a little much. Def an awesome professor! It was the class that I looked forward to the most, and not just because it is my major. He is a tough grader when it comes to the final essay but the tests themselves are basically spilled out for you, all you have to do is study the material!

His expectations are clearly explained the 1st day of class. There are NO tricks or surprises on exams. He tells you exactly what to write on the essay and is willing to proof read a draft. Attend class, read the text, do the essay and if you have 1/2 a brain, you will do well. He wants you to excel and is approachable, funny and inspirational.

I was not looking forward to taking history but from the first day of class Thompson made history clear and manageable and had exceedingly fair expectations. It is easy to get a good grade if you take notes, take his practice tests, and memorize the short ID's. Prof rewards hard work! speak up in class for participation points! love him! fave prof!

He is very hard (what do you expect for a college-level history course?) Still, he's a great Professor if you put in the effort. 3 Discussion questions, 1 web exercise and 1 quiz per week. Saturday AM quizzes was difficult, though. Had to drop my Saturday course to take the quizzes. Answers questions quickly and very helpful!Recommend!

Professor Johnson is the best professor I've had at MC thus far. His lectures are clear, straight to the point and man does he have a sense of humor! Professor Thompson is the best history teacher ever! I took his class on-line. He is very active on the discussion boards and gives frequent feedback to students. I had a lot of fun in his class and this teacher really made a difference! There is a lot to do, but apply yourself, work hard, have fun, and you will do fine.

The online class has a typical routine. You log on whenever you can and answer 3 discussion posts, a web exercise and take a quiz by the end of the week. The exams are not the same questions from the quizzes.

I did not know history was that much fun. He has his own website and his quizzes and answers are already given to you. I am always going to remember American History events with the way he explained it and always going to look at TV documentaries with how he taught them.

Yeah he's great, take his class. If you have any bit of interest in history, time will just fly by in his lectures. Always available for questions, if you care, and the work is simple. Just read and listen well and you're cool.

I took him for both HIST 200 and 201. Aside from him being hilarious, he made the lectures intriguing and very understandable. For both classes, there were 3 writing assignments and 3 tests. There were no other assignments but there were opportunities for extra credit which were extremely easy. Attendance not mandatory but notes needed for tests.

This class was so easy! 3 discussions and a quiz each week, midterm, and final. All of the answers to the quiz questions are online! This class is the easiest A online and Professor Thompson is a great professor. Highly recommend!!

Dr. Thompson was my best professor I ever took at MC. He is very accessible outside the classroom and is extremely friendly. He makes a lot of jokes in the classroom and makes learning history fun. The class is 3 tests and 3 papers, neither are not that hard if you study for them and take good notes.

I have to say it was one of the most organized online courses that I have ever taken. What I love about the class was that the discussion questions were straight to the point and it made us focus on specific parts of the chapter. Then he would gives the answers to the discussion questions which helped me on the multiple choice quizzes.

His blackboard is organized and he's funny at times. Tough grader, tho. You could answer the question accurately/completely, but he'll give you a 7/10 just because it doesn't 100% match up with the answer that he posts. Emailing him to fix your grade is ineffective. Aside from that, the textbook can be found free online and quiz answers on Quizlet.

An EXCELLENT online class. Not too hard. The professor gives LOTS of feedback. He comes online EVERYDAY to comment on your posts. Three posts a week. one midterm and a final. AMAZING organization. If you want a class that is well organized with clear expectations and alot of REGULAR feedback, this one is for you!

Prof. Thompson is great! He is clear and organize. There are no surprises in his class because on his syllabus, is everything you need to know. If you are scared to take a online course with no zoom meeting, take it with him! He provides really good feedback when it comes to discussions. Quizzes are straight from the book. So you do have to read!

Professor Thompson is a great professor!!! Only reason I did not rate him a five is because of his class structure, it's only five assignments so you cannot mess up on any assignments. Overall amazing professor! Would highly recommend!!

Are you lazy? Do you cheat? Then this professor in not for you. This professor is GREAT. The requirements clear, they are not too hard. He is FAIR and gives a lot of feedback. Take this course and you will learn history. Ignore the lazy haters who got caught cheating in class and retaliated by lying about this GREAT PROFESSOR!

I had a really nice time taking this class. I think a gained a lot of new valuable perspectives on American history. The structure of the class was very effective. The regularity of the schedule ensured that I knew what was to come each week and it made the course load very manageable.

I took Professor Thompson's History 200 and 201 classes in the same semester in Fall 2018. Looking back 4 years later, he was funny, fantastic, and one of the best professors I've ever had. He made the lectures memorable, easy to follow, and it easily prepares you for the exams. Make sure you sign up for his classes; you won't regret it.

Dr.T is a great teacher. Keep up with the reading and take the practice quizzes and the midterm and final should be slight. It can be a hard to keep a good grade since there are only a few grades over the semester but Dr.T makes himself available to help. He might seem intimidating but he is so kind and it is so easy to talk to him about anything.

Easily one of the best classes I have ever taken. His lectures are amazing, and half the exam is from notes; beware, however, as the other half is ENTIRELY from the textbook, you would get a 50 if you did not read the text. Only 5 assignments, made world history so memorable and he was very knowledgable about the topics.

Dr. Thompson's lectures are very informative and well-thought out. He always gives constructive feedback, so you're never left wondering why you missed points on discussion posts. I'm now taking my second online history course of his and I'd recommend both HIST 200 and 201 to anyone needing to fulfill 200-level history requirements.

I usually don't like history classes, but I loved this one. Gives funny, clear, passionate, and thoughtful lectures. No "gotcha" questions in exams. He's a harsh grader with written assignments though, and you only get five assignments, but he provides clear feedback. Be sure to take notes AND read the textbook since the exams are based off both.

A great professor! Fair, unbiased, and shows A LOT of patience for know-it-all jerks who like to argue, but don't really know much of anything. :)

Professor Joseph Thompson is an exceptional educator. I enrolled in his winter class, and his instructional videos proved to be incredibly beneficial. The engaging nature of his lecture video provided an experience akin to being in a physical classroom. Delving into his lecture videos equips you with the skills to tackle his essay questions

During my first semester at MC, I felt nervous to jump into a college-level class. Professor Thompson ripped off the bandaid and made it by far the most exciting and enjoyable experience I've ever had. Professor Thompson will take you on a journey through whatever his lecture is about, he's passionate, highly knowledgeable, and humble (sometimes)

Amazing Professor & clear grading criteria.

A natural comedian who makes learning about history much easier. His class is difficult, and one must read, study, and go over his practice tests to make sure you do well on his exams. There are also three papers due by the end of each month which are easy to complete. As long as you show up on time and pay attention, you will do well.

His online HIST200 class had lecture videos, textbook readings, a quiz (open book) and an essay every week. The work was manageable and he was not a tough grader for the essay as long as you included as much relevant information as possible. The lectures were entertaining and educational although I did not agree with 100% of what he said. Take him!

I took his modern US history course and absolutely loved it. He is entertaining and full of compassion. His test are all online and his powerpoints are very clear but not overwhelming. I plan on taking his colonial course in the fall

Professor Thompson is passionate and knowledgeable. His lectures are engaging, but the class can be challenging. Staying on top of the work and using resources like ChatGPT and unstuckstudy helped me succeed.

The best! Funny, incredibly knowlegeabe, helpful, and patient. He helped me write my second paper after I wrote a bad first one. He didn't make me feel stupid when I asked for help. He is very kind.

I would take again for sure, he is a great guy, makes a lot of jokes which is the best part and it is to keep you engaged so you wont nod off learning about history. The class is not boring, he is a cool person for sure.

Extremely liberal so if you don't like that then don't take the class. Otherwise fantastic lecturer, very entertaining and funny. As far as assignments go there are 3 papers, a midterm, and a final.

Great professor, really interesting lectures and great conversation. Swears a lot, but not an issue for me. Had a lot of fun with this class.
