An easy A if you follow directions for hw assignments which are straight out of the book and have a working knowledge of MS Office. Tests are multiple choice, T/F, and short answer towards end of semester.

Not many people curse more than I do...he is definately one of them. His tests are straight from the book and if you read it, it is very easy. He is very laid back. I would recommend this class to anyone.

my average for the 1st two tests was an 89 and the final was a pure guessing game but i still got an A in the class. don't even bother showing up to class unless it's to get the review sheets. attendance isn't counted. the guys is simply hilarious.

Thurm is a no-nonsense educator; he's a straight shooter and if you follow his rules there is no problem getting an A. However, the excel test is not easy. No attendance taken which is a plus. HW counts toward grade. Thurm rules.

He is one of the funniest professors at BC. He knows what he is talking about, too. If you want to learn A LOT than r=tkae this professor. He really explains the concepts extremely well. The only negative some people find on him is that he curses a lot. I think that adds to hi funniness. This guy's the best teacher in the computer department.

excellent teacher. i came to class even though attendance was not required. he taught all the material. 95% of the test was covered in the lecture. 100% of the test was covered in the book. i just read the book once and got an A with ease. i would recommend him to others.

The funniest professor I ever had. Doesn't take attendance. Exams are mostly multiple choice and true/false. I also took him for Electronic Commerce. Got an A in both classes. I highly recommend taking him!

You must really be retarted to a spectacular degree to fail or find him hard.He is the easiest professor, who doesn't care if you come in and gives you 30/40 of the questions for each exam. You only need 25 to pass. He requires you to sit down, shut up and listen.He is interesting and makes class fun to come to, attendence dosen't matter. Easy A

The best PRO at BC.Tests are easy,(straight form the book) and Thurm himself is one of the funniest PRO I have ever met. HE says on the first day "either your going to love me or hate me." WHy anyone would hate this man is beyond me. (though there were some students who were offended by his jokes and his languge issue.)I say take him for CIS5.2 A++

He is the best professor for this course. You will laugh your @$$ off in his class. Curses a lot, but I thought it was funny since it came out of him. The class in general is easy as pie. There is no homework. Attendance is not required, but if you show up, listen, and read his hand-outs (not a lot a work at all) you will ace his class without a problem.

Take him by all means. He is the funniest professor in BC, and you'll also learn a lot from him. Attendance is not required, but I betcha you'll come anyway just to listen to his jokes. Exams are really easy. Just study his sample tests and you'll pass the class. Read the book and you'll pass with an A+.

Just took Cyberethics with him. Very good professor. Great sense of humor. ATTENDANCE NOT MANDATORY. Make sure you read the book from cover to cover and you should get an A in this class. Keeps class interesting with up to date material. Will take another class with him in Fall.

He's great. Very funny. It's fun coming to his class, but you don't even have to. If you read the book cover to cover, there is no way that you will not get an A in his class. I also had him in the summer. I'd take him again if I wasn't graduating. Up to date material. Keeps it interesting. I give him an A+.

Honestly, I must say, he is by for the best professor that I have ever taken in college!! He is very funny, and attendance is really not mandatory, but you will have so much fun that you will want to attend the class. Knows his****, and very explanatory. I would recommend him to anyone.

One of the best professors I have ever had. Funny, brilliant, and informative. Went out of his way to help me long after I left his class. I feel that I owe a very successful career to him. Class is not mandatory but always full, every one wants to go.

Professor Thurm is a great professor. His online class is well structured and very flexible. He also gives you the opportunity to retake exams and provides an option for feedback at the end of the course.. he is one of the BEST teachers I have had!

The online class is alot of work doing the outlines, but you learn alot and the midterm and final are easy. The final is open note and very straight forward. Nice guy I would recommend taking this class.

Attendance not required, but YOU WILL SHOW UP. He makes it worth it. Hilarious to no end and answers any questions. Extremely helpful and loves his subject. ONLINE CLASS...Pretty easy and straight forward...Alot of work thought..but easy..Just outlining chapters and doing online quizzes for each chapter..Can bring your outline for midterm and final which is cool...Easy A..Professor is cool

If you need to take CISC ethics/philosophy and he's teaching it, TAKE HIM IMMEDIATELY!!! He's super cool. The papers are easy and the tests are easy, but you MUST read the book and make the outlines and bring them to the test day. Easy A if you do the work. He's very funny and super kewl :).

You will want to go to class. Attendance is optional but most people go to class. The only real work that you have to do is the outlines for the chapters but the good thing is that you get to use them during the tests which come straight from the book. So you basically you get rewarded for writing a good cheat sheet. Bottom line take him. =)

Honestly, this professor, as well as this course makes me motivated to minor in philosophy. His teaching style is excellent, allowed to use the news videos and the news articles about certain ethical issues, goes over chapter by chapter and reviews it for the exams (and even gives the students what topics will be on the exams).

In addition, attendance is optional, but almost all of his students come to his class every meeting, he got a sense of humor (even he curses a lot), and yes: this course is a writing-intensive course so the "long papers" and the "in-class" essays are straightforward, based on certain ethical issues. He is really helpful during his office hours.

Finally, the most important part of this course is the outlines, and the textbook. YOU MUST READ THE BOOK AND OUTLINES!! IT WILL COME IN HANDY FOR THE EXAMS!! I said this because he allows to use the outlines as "great cheat sheets" for the exams. My recommendation is: If you like philosophy or computer science, then take this course with him. :-)

I needed to take this course as a requirement for the Finance Major. He is a great lecturer. Taught a lot. Be aware he talks a bit fast. Answers questions over & over. Lots of programs. Maybe too much. I started to like programming. I am taking the second course even though I don't have to. He makes time to help you. Take him!!

This professor knows a lot! he has lots of experience & is very helpful.. you WILL read the entire textbook! You make chapter outlines which you use for the exams. There are four exams (uncluding final). He has a very unique sense of humor so if you are a serious person & dont like to laugh, don't take him.

I've taken a lot of his online classes, they were really great and they were really easy A's. Just outline the chapters from the textbook and use those outlines on the midterm and final which were multiple choice. Some quizzes on Blackboard which were easy too.

He is the most amazing professor. Very engaging and witty and kind. If you ask him a question, he will explain it to you until you get it. and he will find different ways to make you understand. The best professor ever

His class is interesting. Too many papers. His exams are rough. You are allowed to use notes during the exam and that makes the exam tolerable. I missed two papers so I got a B. The class discussion is great. He motivates well. I wish he would give points for attendance. 20% of the class did not show up.

In some ways, based on his character, Thurm is probably the last guy that should teach Ethics. On the other hand, because he has questionable ethics himself, he presents the material in a way that will resonate with young people used to tuning out the usual sterile politically correct dribble. I myself sure won't ever look at bananas the same way.

He is a very fair professor and a great person. His jokes are a little crazy, but they do keep you awake in class. He has a good balance between teaching the subject and life. He gets two thumbs up.

Teacher available for in-person help. Answers emails within a few hours, except on weekends. Tremendous review before the in-person midterm and final. There was a lot of homework but I learned Excel and the work. The midterm was fair but a killer. Teacher eased up on the final exam. Definitely take him if you want to learn the material.

I hate math and proofs. Thurm taught the material in such a way to make me like the proofs. I think I understand different levels of infinity. His lectures are funny. He covers the material. I hardly read the book. Using videos in class really helped explain quantum mechanics. His exams were fair.

One of the best professors at BC. Unorthodox in his teaching methods, but do the work and you will learn. Lots of homework, which must be done to do well on the exams. Adept in the subject matter, he is masterful at explaining concepts in a way that you can understand. Online class, but you can attend his in person lectures, which help a lot.

38 excel homeworks. Exams hard but fair. Great Lecture. Too much work. If I had to do it again, I would take somebody else, work less, and learn less.

Thurm had lots of office hours before and after class. People who had trouble with the problems came in groups and he worked with all of us. He came in on Sunday and helped us out. He gave a review for the final which helped a lot. TAKE HIM. You will work hard. But you will be leave feeling accomplished.

This was a very difficult class, especially since it was an online winter intersession course. Luckily, Prof Thurm was extremely accommodating and helpful. If you want to be successful, you should go in for extra help. He's a nice professor, and truly cares about his students. A little whacky, but the best ones are :)

True there are a lot of homeworks. But they are there to help you do the midterm and the final. I honestly had no knowledge of excel before taking this course but I still managed to get a good grade all thanks to the textbook. You have to put effort and as for the professor he is cool. I have taken Prof Therm many years ago 1980 s . He is the best. Does he still drink Coca cola in class. Now i am a teacher and i always remember him. If you want to learn take him. Otherwise stay away.

Easy if you show up to class. Recommended for upper tier cores. Quite hilarious as well. He'll tell you exactly what will be on his exams.

Not willing to work hard? Skip this online class. 25+ Excel HW. Math. Prof lets you to come his inperson class which are great. His reviews before midterm & final are a MUST. His office hours are full of students asking for help. Hint: Bring HW on flash drive & he helps you. Without his help, I would have not gotten a B. I worked very hard.

Show up to lecture and take notes, and his test will be super easy. Definitely recommended for upper tier core. Attendance is not mandatory, but SHOW UP! You will not pass if not.

This guy is amazing. I took the class during the Winter semester on the PF option, and I've never laughed as many times in a class before this one. He never fails anyone (really, unless you ditch the exams), and you'll learn curses in multiple languages! A must take!

Thurm is one of the best professors!! He tells you what is going to be on the test. He structures the class so that the smart students are intellectually stimulated and the stupid students still get an A. Oh and he's hilarious.

This professor is truly awesome. If you PAY ATTENTON in class your guaranteed a good grade. The material is hard but Thurm explains it so clearly. A midterm and final which are very easy and curved. He will tell you exactly what you need to know for the exams. Plus, he's hilarious and entertaining so your never bored even in a 3 hour class

Come to class. His lectures are awesome. He answers questions before, during, and after class. His exams are through. Every topic is covered. Exams are rough but fair. I am not a science major but I have a handle on Cantor, Turing, Godel, Newton and Einstein. The first lecture was an attention grabber. Especially that double slit thing. Take him !

I just took exam 1. Every topic covered in class was on the exam. I got a 79. I worked my butt off. He is forcing the material down my throat. I don't know if I should drop the course. I worked so hard just to get a B. 2 more exams and 20 more homeworks. I am graduating. Teacher does not fail students who try. His lectures are clear.

35 excel homeworks. I hated him. I spent hours. I worked hard for my B+. He gave me good advice. I interviewed for a financial analyst job at Prudential in Newark and they hired me based on what I learned in this class and his recommendation. Now I love him.

Just took his midterm. Got a 68. He gave an awesome review before the exam. Without that review, I would have gotten a 25. After reviewing the exam in class, I realized that cramming the night before the exam is suicide. Exams are thorough and long. Lots of extra credit. If you are not willing to work, take Harrow. HWs are a must.

Even if you are taking it online, go to his optional classes. Every class is clear. Lots of problems are worked out. Class is 2.5 hrs 1xwk - too long - better 75 min 2xwk. Answers questions. Available to help after class or by email. Entertaining class.

If you take professor Thurm expect a lot of homework assignments. If you do all homework the exams will be easy for you. I took his online class. He allows online students to attend his "live" classes. Professor Thurm explains everything thoroughly and answers any students' questions. His "live" class is very entertaining.

He is the greatest professor in Brooklyn College for C++. I highly recommend to students to take his class. Believe me you will start loving computer science. if you guys get bored in class, he always have relevant stories on computer. one of the reason i said he is the greatest because he taught most the CS professor in BK college.

Hardest course taken at BC. I am an accounting major and I thought those courses were hard. I learned EXCEL the hard way. I have nightmares about SOLVER. His lectures are good.

Operations Management - A lot of work to complete in 3 weeks. Professor Thurm is an excellent Professor. This is an online class and he vountarily came to school 4 evenings each week to give a lecture and assist with the homework. Not enough time to appreciate the course. A+ Professor

he's extremely helpful and funny. He helps his students alot. The assignments are pretty hard and tedious but pretty useful they train you well for the exams and make the tests look easy. He cares about his students several times during exam he gave me more time to finish up. His class is worth taking just DON'T FALL BEHIND!!! on your assignments.

Really helpful will take his time to help you. Just do all the assignment and go to class and you will get a good grade.

Professor Thurm is awesome! I'm sure he will read this at some point. Despite his desire to be a curmudgeon he truly cares about if you understand the material no matter how much he says he doesn't. He will take tons of time to help you figure out what to do in the class. DO THE HOMEWORK he gives plenty but it is ALL on the test.

I had zero interest in the material. It is a core class. By the end of 90 minutes, I was hooked. He made me work. I think I understand Modus Ponens, non-countably infinite, superposition, Godel Incompleteness, Heisenberg, and that Halting Machine. I am hoping for a B+. If you are willing to work and to sit thru 12 amazing lectures, take him.

I did 20+ Excel hw. That's only 25% of the class. I learned to think about business as a science. While there is a book assigned, if you go to class (and his optional Sunday reviews) you will learn the course better. Awesome lectures. Does not give a break in a 160 minute class. Slow him down by asking questions. Best prof I had at BC.

He is great. The material wasn't a piece of cake, but he made it so much easier by his way of teaching. If you put off your part, you can definitely get an A+. He goes over the material several times, which completely prepares you for the mid/finals exams. His HWs are only extra credits, but key preparations for the exams.

I took him in FL15. 45 hw in Excel. I worked my ass hard for my B. I told friends "stay away too hard". In April, I took an interview a bank. I was asked for teacher names. i mentioned Thurm and op mgmt. I was asked lots of stuff in Excel which I knew. i got the job. I use the concepts that Thurm shoved down my throat to feed my family. Take him.

SO MANY ASSIGNMENTS ! Not necessary and then he is such a strict grader on top of that taking off percentage of points if an assignment is late when he gives you entire folders to complete before the deadline.

Tough but worth it.

If you have the time to do lots of hw, take him. His teaching is great but hw is hard. Good luck!

What can I say about Thurm-Thurm, the guy is practically a care bear and is hilarious. Take him. You will learn to use Excel; there are about 30 or so homework assignments though that is not a lie and will not change, but you will end up knowing excel a lot better than your peers.

I got a 17 on test 1. I am dropping. I copied from my girl friend. I had t1a. She had t1b. The questions looked alike. She got a 73 out of 75.5. She did every homework and said that the test was close to the homework. There were 12 excel problems in 6 weeks and 2 online quiz. I under estimated the class. Thurm is a good lecturer.

Thurm spenr hours helping students. He answers emails at 3am. The complaints about too much Excel are silly. Excel is the crucial in business. I took Excel at KBCC and did not learn enough of the basics. Thurm forced me to learn it. Lots of videos on YouTube. Profit is math. Until Thurm, math was a four letter word.

If you are not ready to work, skip this professor. If you are willing to work, take him. This is my third class with him. Lots of HW. Lots of office hours. Answers emails 24x6. He is Jewish and unavailable on Saturday. His office hours on Sunday are popular. Some of his jokes are old.

Students complain about the math & excel. I knew excel before I walked in. The class was informative and I could focus on the problem solving. His lectures are complete, clear with a touch of humor. He always answers emails and has lots of office hours. He will spend an hour after class helping you. Lots of work, hard tests (but fair).

Both of his classes are difficult but he prepares & gives you ALL the tools that you need to do well. His lectures are very clear, interesting and hilarious. Makes you work. Lots of HW in Excel. Always has time to help you. Totally color blind. I learned a lot. His lectures are clear. His sense of humor needs a bit of help. AND don't use your cell phone during class (he went ballistic).

I am a philo major. I had no interest in math&computers. After 20 minutes of class1, Thurm had me interested. Class was so interesting. Lots of videos. Lot of examples. I bought the book. Thurm explained the book really well. In the end, I really did not need to buy the book. HW were extra credit. Exams were reasonable. Take him.

This is an online course. I only met the prof at the in-person final exam. Why BC has a mandatory in-person final is hard to figure out. Prof had 8 at home quizes, 8 outlines, and 2 big homework. Then came a final. I read the book. All 500 pages TWICE. I got good marks. If you do not read the book, you will be in trouble. READ.

Professor Thurms grading criteria is clear and he is available via email with any questions HE IS THE BEST! theres 8 at home quizzes each with an outline that must be submitted prior, 2 assignments about revenue and google, and the final exam. Prof Thurm allows EC if outline and he is so nice & helpful you cant not pass!! he is also hilarious!!!

Lectures are clear. Does a zillion problems in class. Ready to sit with you before and after class. Did lots of excel. I worked very hard. I felt like I learned a lot.

If you mean business about learning and are prepared to do the work, take him! He is knowledgeable and makes a boring subject a lot of fun. Helpful too, he stays after class and helps students do homework and is genuinely invested in your learning. Not a professor to take if you are lazy though. A lot of work but worth it. I would take him again!

Professor Thurm does his best to make sure every student understands the topics he teaches, he does plenty of review and makes it clear what he expects from students. Homeworks seem like a lot but are the best way to practice. He is a fair grader and kept the class interested with relevant real life examples for every topic. Great class take him!

Professor Thurm has to be one of the best professors in Brooklyn College!!!! He truly cares for his students. As long as you go to class and follow along when he goes over the problems in class, learning the concepts are easy. He always makes time either before or at the ending of the class to go over homework problems.

A great teacher, who is quite intelligent & knows the subject matter very well. He assigns a lot of homework, which is very relevant, & can be used as a tool to study for exams. He is always happy to answer questions in class as well as he offers lots of office hours. I learned an enormous amt in this class and also enhanced my skills in excel.

Great professor, you have to listen in order to be able to follow. He provide plenty of examples and way to show you how to complete each problem on your own.

Professor Thurm is an excellent teacher. He knows and explains the material thoroughly. He gives multiple examples. He gives a lot of homework but allows you to use your homework to help with his assessments. He gives you everything you need to do well. Thurm is also very funny and entertaining. HE IS GREAT!!!! I took 1st summer session, and my only regret is that I took this class in summer. Professor Thurm is too good for such a short semester, I wish I took a longer semester. You learn not only the subject matter, but life lessons as well! Do not think twice!

If anything, this class is "exceltastic", and the professor himself is an Excel playboy. Hard work will get your far in this class, but make sure you're ready though.

He is subbing for another teacher. He is too sensitive. Students posted the test bank and he got annoyed. His annoyance is too much. He shows lots of current events in the videos. I hope he does not get spoiled because of a few students.

Great, Entertaining and Knowledgeable guy. His lectures are all pertaining to the real world. You will not get bored in his class. Simple structure of 3 exams a few writing assignments. Learned a lot, convinced me to watch the news regularly.

Great course. Lots of material. He made me like excel. Go to class. Do your work at once. Do not wait. Likes to answer questions. Does lots of problems on the board. Take him !!

I never worked harder. Lots of excel. He explains hard things reaaly well. I missed one class and I rejected it. Some of the stuff covered helped in finance. Take him.

I took this class as an online class during the summer. He posted all of the quizzes for the semester as well as assignments the first day so that you had the whole term to do them. They are timed. The assignments were time consuming but i learned a lot. Final was in person but he let you bring a review sheet. He's very funny, Great class!

I took this class two years ago. 30 excel hw. He taught a lot in each class. I hated him. I was a teller in a bank. Now I am in management and I am using lots of the stuff he taught and he taught well. I now appreciate all the work he assigned. He teaches you how to think thru a problem and solve it.

Honestly, Thurm is a pretty good professor. He lets you use notes during the exam (whether it be in the web building through connect or paper which he grades really fast), guides you through homeworks and teaches you everything you need while providing a warm and funny environment in the class, hes not as bad as these others are making it seem!

At first, I thought professor will be very tough grader and I was aware of the things posted here on Rate my professor. But turned out professor Thurm is very funny, with a good sense of humor. He explains his lecture very well and make sure you understand what's going on. All Homework is on Connect, and you are allowed to you your notes on exam.

Took this class online. Grade is based mostly off in-person exams that aren't cumulative. 3 exams. Everybody uses their phones on the exams and everything is on Chegg. a lot of homework on Connect, but all answers are on Chegg. Subject matter can be difficult.

Easy professor

I'll be honest, this class was no walk in the park, in fact, I never worked so hard to get an A in my life or maintain my 4.00, BUT... I did it!! I will tell you this: if you're a lazy or careless student, don't even bother to sign up because you will only let yourself down. This class requires PLENTY of time & effort which many underestimate.

Professor Thurm teaches in a very clear and interesting manner. The tests are thorough but you can definitely do well if you put in the effort. The knowledge that I have gained from this class is practical and useful. I definitely recommend Professor Thurm.

Professor Thurm is awesome at making students think about the ethical implications of technology. Its a really good class and he uses textbook material and current events to relate to the material. The class is a writing course so expect to do reading, researching, and writing. This course really impacted me and I highly recommend it.

Old and over it, but in the best way possible. An enjoyable class with straightforward assignments and tests. Topics are interesting and relevant.

Initially, I was turned off. But I emailed him & got great answers. We met in his office. Reviewed lots of HW. Then, I realized that his videos did explain things.He was NOT going to spoon feed the answers. He gave me step1. Encouraged me to do step2. Then he helped me figure out step3. NO SPOON FEED. AND HE NEVER FAILS ANYBODY WHO WORKS.

I met him in the WEB Bldg for help in my CISC course. He helped 3 students at once. He set me up on Step 1. Then he encouraged me to figure out the next step while he worked with the other students. Then he came back to me. We fixed up next step. He went back to the others. I had to learn how to do it on my own.

dude is hilarious and the class is braindead easy. a handful of short papers, and a midterm + final. show up to class and there's no reason you shouldn't get an A.

Amazing prof. Also the most entertaining one you will ever have. His main goal of the class is to make you see and think about privacy/security in todays world, which he does a very good job at. Easy hw/inclass essays (3-10 sentences). Multiple choice mixed w short response exams. Very easy. He doesnt hold back on what he says. Down to earth. 5/5

I transferred to this college and was abandoned by the emails from the Registrar. No personal help. Tried to get a face to face help. A stranger told to me to see THURM from CISC. Thurm spent time explaining things, eventhough I am not a CISC major. We planned out my first terms. Helped me with degreeworks. Good guy. Answers emails quickly.

funny and chill but doesn't explain in-depth unless asked. make sure to attend all lectures. lots of partial credit on exams. 3 exams, weekly homework, and a final.

Best professor in bk college. Very easy class and great professor. Professor Thurm has great stories that he integrates into the lesson to make the classes more fun. I wish I could take him for every subject. Do not hesitate to take his courses. Looking forward to take his ethics course next

He has a world of experience, and it was worth taking his class.

He's unhinged but in a good way, makes for some interesting and hilarious lectures. Bases homework and slides on modern issues, and tests are fair and thought provoking. So long as you attend his lectures and read a bit of the textbook, you'll do fine.
