When it's midterms most prof cut back on office hours, or very hard to reach. This man extends and even meets you at a campus location to help you study and answer questions. He's amazing!

Dr. Turnbull is an amazing professor, he genuinely wants his students to pass. He stated during his first lecture that his passion was teaching mathematics, which set the tone for the rest of the course. I ended up dropping his class because I knew I wouldn't be able to get an 85 with my other courses and work schedule, which he was very understanding of, and he kept me in the class OWL so that I could still have access to his notes and lectures if I decided to take the course again in the future. Most caring prof i've had, wants you to do well and encourages students to see him for extra help. Classes are boring but if you go he does helpful examples that are not explained in the powerpoint and gives you alot of test hints!

The best prof I have come across on campus!! Super helpful and explains concepts really well. He keeps giving hints of what might come up in the exam. If you took calc in high school then its very easy to score a 90! Also homework problems are important and the ones that he does in his class. He gives at least 5-6 questions frm his lecture slides

The guy actually explains properly and isnt out to screw you over. Took two of his classes at Kings and you dont want to skip. Of 50 marks on an exam, 5 were similar to the notes, 15 similar to the assigned homework, 20 like exams from previous years, the rest were meh you need to figure it out. All profs sections have the same exams and tests.

Tests are very tough, but proff is extremely dedicated and if you go to class and use the notes you will learn. I tutored my buddies not in my class. His exam hints kinda suck because it is like making a big deal about some trig identity or saying that doing homework from some section will make you happy come exam day. Extreme prep session stamina.

Easily the best calc prof at western... super clear and always very helpful! If you can take calc1000 with him do it for sure.. even if its 830am. You'll thank yourself when you hear the horror stories of the other profs! He gives weekly (sometimes biweekly) quizzes that really keep you caught up but they aren't hard at all! 100% recommend

His lectures are great, and he brings lots of energy to an 830am class. He makes sure to pack at least a few math related memes into every lecture...I highly recommend him!

Turnbull is in my opinion the best prof for first year calc at UWO. He genuinely cares so much about his students, and their success. He makes calc as easy as possible. His lectures are AMAZING and he stops to take questions every example and will never make you feel bad. He stays up every night making his slides and hosts amazing reviews b4 exams.

Turnbull is hands down my favourite prof from first year. I had him for calc1000 and calc1301. He makes calculus about as interesting and fun as it could possibly be. Professor Turnbull is one of the best human beings I've ever met. I didn't need his help often, but he entertained at length any question any student had as long as they needed. He would have given the shirt off his back to pull you out of calcul-itic despair. Anyone who didn't go to class early missed out.

Focused on big picture and applications, and spent a lot of time on things not on the exam. Tying calculus in to other topics was nice, but would have preferred he cover more examples like stuff on the exam. Quizzes prepared me for the exam well enough to get a mid 90 but it was a lot of work to prepare for them. Still the best class in 1st year.

If there is any prof you want for calc it's this man right here 110%. Don't be lazy and avoid his 8:30 classes. His teaching will get u a 90% with ease. This Professor was the best teacher Ive ever had. Everything he did was in order for you to succeed. He tried to make the concepts interesting and understandable. Very easy to relate and having excellent way of teaching. Does extra review, videos, office hours resources. The note is posted but he adds color explanations in class. Change courses in testing calculus this year, and since every prof has to use the same common exam. Exam was harder and we just need more time. Should be 4 hours exam.

This guy is straight up the best, referred to as "the GOAT". His lessons are very clear and he keeps the class engaged and will answer any questions until you understand. The amount of review periods he holds on his free time is unreal, better preparing you for exams and easier to ask questions. He is the Michael Jordan of professors.

The GOAT. I had 3 math classes in my first year and didn't have a class with Turnbull in any of them. Yet he singlehandedly was the only reason I passed and succeeded in those classes. He has a way of explaining difficult concepts that make it easy for you to understand. As someone who was not well-versed in math prior to Uni, I recommend Turnbull.

Don't listen to the people giving bad reviews here, you can't expect the lectures to be enough. You do need to do lots of homework but the timeline is VERY doable and simple if you dedicate 3-4 hours a week studying. Almost every question was pulled out of the homework that he personally gave. Took 1301B in 2024 and absolutely loved it.

I started crying that Turnbull was not my math professor anymore. I worry about failing my math courses becuz I have learning difficulties.profs talk about how you will fail math if you don't do the hmwk, which is discouraging if you don't understand. Turnbull makes sure you pass if you try your best, and ask him lots of questions !!! he LOVES it.

Prof. Turnbull's videos were uploaded to my Math 0110 (Introductory Calculus) online course while another Prof. actually taught the course. I used Prof. Turnbull's videos as my only source for lecture content because my professor did not upload their own videos. He was very clear and informative and clearly cares about his students.

Amazing professor. He is very enthusiastic about math and his teaching methods make it very easy to understand the work. Gives really good feedback and encourages you to ask questions if you are stuck. Would strongly recommend him if you have the chance for any math class.

Top 2 prof and he's not 2nd. Very respected across campus. Clearly cares about what he does. Take his class whenever possible. Also has video lessons which are just about as good as in-person lectures.
