Great professor. Must go to class takes attendence not bad tho.. watch a lot of good movies. The class before the exam go and take all notes. That will be your exam. 2 exams (easy only took 5 min. each) and 2 papers (great grader) take him!

great professor - you DO NOT NEED IT. everything on the two tests is from notes movies. Gives you the qu's for the exams so studying is easy and the tests arent hard anyway. takes attendence by passing around a paper so someone else can check your name if your not there. he is very nice and you watch GREAT movies! take this class for a fun easy A

I loved this class and learned a lot. Cool films and he really knows his stuff. Class was over 100 so it was hard to have any one to one although if you approached him after class he was very helpfull and friendly. Also very fair with grades.

If you like to see films you might never have the chance to see – take this course. The professor made it interesting and worthwhile. He covers a lot of info on the history of film music and music in general so you need to keep on top of it. Loved it and would take the course again. I got an A.

Very easy A. If you have any interest in music or film this class will be a breeze. Professor Turrin is generally a nice guy and his test reviews could not be more clear. Only complaint is that practically everyone got an A on the paper and he admitted that he just skimmed them over, so don't work too hard on it.

I missed three classes and still got an A. He'll go over the midterm and final, only 30 multiple choice questions. And the 1600 word essay on the score of one film is so easy. Just get a copy of the DVD and watch it as you go along.

Very easy. Midterm and final are done online. You never use the book in class. All you do is watch movies and listen to his interjections about the film score. Its easy to skip the class too. He is not a bad guy either

he loves the sound of his own voice and it's really annoying. He lets class out up to 15 minutes late sometimes and assigns homework in the last 30 seconds of class. Other than that, he is a nice guy and the class is as easy as it can be. You watch some pretty good movies

Take this class. Disagree with last post - He has a great voice and is very interesting to listen to. Tests are online and there are small writing assignments to do. Takes attendance and has a real passion for the subject. Not sure of my grade yet but I think I did well in the class. If you want to learn about films and music take this course.

Easiest class you will ever take. He has you sign a paper saying you are there, and you can leave after. You watch movies every week such as psycho, and citizen kane. He has you write a double spaced one page paper like once every 4 weeks on composers. Really, easy A I recommend it. Hes just boring

This class is perfect to take to just get your performing arts gned out of the way. You watch movies every week. There is a paper once in a blue moon, and they are simple. Midterm was online and open book. Final is half online half in class. nothing too stressful about the class, can get boring at times but other then that i recommend it.

Very insightful class also very easy there is no way anyone should fail this course. Midterm & Final online, sometimes he will tell you to write a page long essay. I will say after taking this class you will see movies differently.

Class is an easy A. You watch a movie every week and 90% are BORING. Mid Term and Final are online and open book. There is an essay part of the final in class which consists of some easy essay questions. Also post on BB discussions and do some one page essays. Do all this with some effort, and an A will follow. I also learned some more about film.

Very knowledgeable. 90% of the class is showing up to watch movies. The mid-term and final are both on BB, with an additional part of the final being the written portion in class. Make sure you post on the Discussion Board on BB because it counts as your class participation. Also gives out 2 papers and an EC paper towards the ends of the semester.

Professor Turrin is a great professor. The man is knowledgeable about what he teaches, shares his experiences in the field, and shows interesting films. This was by far the easiest class I have taken. Your grade is essentially a midterm, a final, and a paper. The midterm and final are also take home. In class he typically holds short lectures with powerpoint slides. Also expect to watch a lot of great films and movies.

Great Class! Watch movies each class and thats it! Occasionally we'd review some notes to cover some history/filming/musical techniques. We mostly watched older/classic movies but they were enjoyable. 1 Paper( didn't grade it) 2 multi choice (midterm/final) Quizzes on Canvas (2 chances to take each one) and a final paper. Super Easy and Enjoyable!

You pretty much go to class and watch movies the whole time. Very easy class. The exams are online and open book. You don't need the textbook unless you want to use it for the exam.

Extremely easy A - sign in sheet is passed around so attendance is not even needed. The whole class is just watching movies, writing 2 pg paper analysis (mad easy), and an open midterm and final. He gives extra credit but honestly is never needed. Seems like a cool guy, would recommend if you need a ghost/filler class.

The easiest class I have ever taken. Takes attendance only for first couple of classes. Take home midterm, final, and two short pop quizzes. Final paper is also a joke and don't buy the book because you can just google the answers. Sure it's boring if you go, but the A is worth it and it's a nice ghost class.

yes the class is very very boring if you are not into film and you are just taking this class to fulfill a requirement. however, it is very easy and its that one class you don't have to worry about. 2 quizzes and a midterm and a final that are all online. he has one final paper that's so easy to bs and an extra credit paper that's also so easy.

This class was great and mr. Turrin is a very nice man. Many students are disrespectful and just get up and leave. although you may feel inclined to do this, I found it more rewarding to listen to him share his personal experiences in the industry. It ended up being a very pleasant class and like I said he is genuinely a very nice teacher.

Great guy, class was all open book quizzes and tests with one paper at the end of the semester. Lectures on early movies can be kind of dry, but he livens them up by playing live music on piano. Def take this class!

Rutgers Music in Film online Easiest prof I ever had. minimal effort into weekly online posts, everyone in the class got full credit for them. Also 100% on all the papers i handed in. exams are pretty easy too. don't understand why my whole class got practically 100% but don't really care either. freedom of topic for papers so kinda fun sometimes

Loved this class! A weekly discussion was essentially the only homework. Two papers are assigned that both are not difficult at all. Midterm and final are also a breeze. A great teacher, and an even better person.

This course was pretty easy. Professor Turrin was quiet during the semester since the course was asynchronous. Only 2 papers and a discussion each week with a midterm and final. No textbook, he provides all the info in typed lectures that you don't really even need to read completely. Assignments are worth little points tho so you have to do them.

I took his class Music in Film Online at Rutgers this semester, and he is a really great professor. Each week we have 1 discussion post to do based on a reading and 3 1000 word essays throughout the semester. The class is actually really interesting and he is a good grader, I ended the class with a 99. Definitely recommend taking his class!

Taking this prof means it's a guaranteed A. The class was synchronous but he does not take attendance. U can miss his lectures and still get an A in his class.

Took this professors class this past Spring 2023. Not online but live in class. During COVID his class was online I hear but now it's only live. The professor is awesome and teaching this subject with passion being that he is a film composer himself. Made me think and view films like I never did before. take this course.

Professor Turrin's class was engaging and thought-provoking. While attendance was mandatory, the lectures and discussions on film music were worth it. unstuckstudy and the free textbook were great study aids alongside the in-class experience. Overall, an easy A-level course.
