Intimidating at first, teaches good though, some of his examples and comment are innecessary. If you can find someone better do it, if not, he'll be fine.

good teacher, but be prepared to hear tons of semi-interesting stories relating to his experiences in boston. gives essay questions ahead of time on tests which make up half of the grade.

great professor, easy a if u are willing to put effort if not, u can still get a b, has this thing where if u are ok w/ ur grade, u don't have to take final exam, great stories
Intersting person... has a lot of crap inside of him that he tends to take out during his lectures. Good teacher though, minus the crap.
Hilarious man! Class is easy and simple enough to follow. Plus you get to hear many... uh interesting stories. I recommend this class to those who want to take either Sociology or Psychology.
I think he's funny and very interesting. His lectures and examples are very clear, although he tends to go to deep in some personal examples. Otherwise, he's great.
It was tough, but I was lazy. I took his class three times. I did fine when I finally put some effort into it. The guy has it down. He speaks well, and finds creative, funny ways to explain the material. The guy has the best stories. It is a fun class, but its also a REAL college course, you have to study alot.

all he does is tell stories...

i love his lectures and his stories. best class ever
He has some pretty funny stories, but he can be tough. I didn't really feel like he was trying to help me get through the class - Racial and Ethnic Minorities. I enjoyed the class, but I wouldn't want him as a teacher again.
He's a good teacher, he tells a lot of stories but they all tie with the material you're learning. His test are not hard if you study, everything is off the textbook.
Lectures are interesting because of his stories and fun personality. Tests are easy A's if you just study because he tells you what the essay questions will be. So memorize the answers and pay attention in lecture. Good class!
"he's experienced it all"! and hes always the cool guy of the stories. there fun to listen to.. and they ARE related to the lecture. just write notes and follow along on the book and you'll be sure to pass the class .
Man, he's just great. He relates terms and concepts using everyday examples that a normal person would relate to. He doesn't focus on lavishing his teaching style by using "big" words. Overall I give him a 9 out of 10. As long as you listen and study you should get at least a B
Tests are multiple choice and a few essay questions, that he'll give out at the beginning of the semester... No research papers or essays :) Fun class
He doesnt give homework other than to read and his tests are multiple choice and he gives a study guide but I never felt comfortable asking for help or emailing him with questions. Its an easy class but he's not the nicest professor.
I took Joe for 5 classes, SOC-101, Psy-101, race and ethnic relations, social psychology, and social problems. his 101 classes are pretty basic and all you have to do is regurgitate the information on his printable study guides. as far as his 200 level classes go, it is your responsibility to think. very entertaining, never a dull moment!!!
He is an AMAZING teacher, he will help you if you need it & likes to joke around with his students, he gives no homework except to do read the chapters and gives you the reviews for the test and he tells you exactly what will be on the test,I loved being in his class.
professor Vielbig is an alright teacher if you can learn just by reading your book. He hardly ever realy uses the book or use any visual tools to help his students understand the subject better. He is nice person but as a teacher I wouldn't recommend him. I you have the option to take another teacher do so!
HE is a great teacher if you can learn based off of his personal stories. Rarely teaches straight from the book, but his tests are mainly from the book. You pretty much teach yourself in this class. I would suggest you not have him as a professo if youare a visual learner. FIND SOMEONE ELSE!
does not teach from book, only tells stories and gives examples and tests on book.
Teaches by telling stories. His stories and advice are extremely interesting, but he won't use the book to teach. You'll have to learn by reading the book yourself and listening to his stories. He's very clear on what will be on the exams with printable study guides.
Professor Vielbig is a good instructor. He pushes his students into doing more than the average. I am not particularly fond of the extreme nature of his vocabulary, but class discussions are related to the material. He can be intimidating. Visual (videos)are rare in his classes.
Cool guy, tells a lot of stories and final grade is based purely off 4 unit exam scores. Show up every day and pay attention - easy B.
He is an only child and used to be a cop, so you can imagine his attitude. Very hard class since you are required to do a thesis paper. Vielbig expects A LOT from you. He compares your knowledge with his. H-A-R-S-H WHEN GRADING!!!!!!!!!
Good teacher that likes to hear himself speak. Hard to distinguish the BS from truth. Listen, take notes and fill out the 4 review sheets. 4 tests only, no homework-easy class. Trick questions on tests...be prepared! I screwed up on the first test-could have received a better grade.
Lectures are cool, you should probably take notes on your own if you plan to pass the tests. Not many assignments, the grades depend on your test scores. He's blunt but means well.
He spends the entirety of every lecture talking about his life. You can do most of your homework (just textbook readings) in class and ignore most of what he says. He does drop small hints in class for the four exams (the only assignments) you receive, so try to wake up for those. To be fair, his life stories are pretty interesting.
Just show, read what you need to, and take the exams. That is all you need. It is fairly simple and you should be fine!
A lot of people I talked to said his class was hard but in my opinion it was one of the easiest classes I have ever taken. No quizzes, not many tests, and if you have a high enough grade at the end of the semester you don't have to take the final! His lectures consist of stories from his past but don't be fooled because it has to do with the exam!
Very good teacher gives great lectures and makes exams very easy .
No homework, 4 exams, he gives out the study guides through black board and toromail's you when the exact dates of the exams will be. Interesting lectures. Great professor!
This professor isnt very helpful in class all he does is talk about his life. Many times you dont even understand how his lectures relate to the review. You only take 4 tests no homework no quizes. I would recommend taking him online if u even think about taking him. For attendence you wrote down your name and thats how you are marked
Vielbig's class is not for those that need to be walked through every precise detail and definition. His lectures appear to be him just talking about his life, but he relates his life experiences to PSYSOC. There are only 4 tests, with study guides, that are very easy. If you do good on the 1st three & like your grade, the 4th is optional. LOVED.
You only have 4 tests through out the whole semester, the 4th is optional if you have a good grade. Easy class as long as you study. There is no homework except to maybe study.
You basically just follow the lectures he gives and study for the exams! He gives you an outline on all four exams & exactly what will be on there. All you have to do is study the material. He makes lectures great & wish i could take the class again! PS, you NEED to study for this class, you wont pass if you dont!
He went over what you need to know when it comes to preparing for the exams, but he tended to go on long tangents that had nothing to do with the material. I found it hard to go to class interested. I felt like I could stay home and read the book and still pass, which is exactly what I did.
4 Test. No HW. How I got an A: 1. Read chapters ahead of time. This usually took me 3-5 days to read 3 chapters. This will make lessons easier to follow 2. Complete & make flash cards for the study guide (vocab & essay part) and MEMORIZE them all 3. When he lectures highlight the text he goes over from the book and write small notes in the book
dont listen to him his lectures are very useless, you dont even have to show up because there is literally only 3 exams that arent that hard the last one is optional depending on your grade after the 3rd, just study and show up for the exams and thats it, dont take this class if you want a full psychology experience
He's mean cuz he didn't really help me out when trying to choose a topic for a paper we had to write. He just kept saying no to all my topics and made me feel dumb instead of explaining things to me and help me out. He talks about non related topics in class. I got to the point I preferred not to attend cuz it was pointless; Very Difficult course
He is so much fun in class. Gives a list of all essay questions for exams on BB so you know exactly what to study, sometimes goes a bit overboard on his lectures but overall a great prof.
Not a teacher. More like "story time" with Vielbig. You'll have a better time reading your text book than listening to him.
Loved this class! His lectures are all stories which is very useful for exams because you can use them in the example portion. Write the most important things in class but listen to his lectures! The study guide IS the first portion of the test so if you do good in the written part & bomb the multiple choice you can still pass the class. Good luck!
I took his online class, we had only 4 exams as well. Unfortunately, I found his class very difficult because he did not give clear instructions and when writing him an email to clarify, he would write me back talking to me like I was dumb. Questions remained unanswered. Classmates felt the same way! Not a good online teacher, would not do it again
This professor is by far the worst one I have ever had at AWC. Nothing outdoes the disrespect and inconsiderate ways of Vielbig. Anytime I asked him a question he always belittled me and only talks about his "life stories". Which most of them sound made up anyways. Get ready to study on your own. You have 4 exams and it's easy but he's a pain..
He is such a terrible teacher It's such of waste being in his class, for the first few minutes of class time he would barely talk about this weeks chapter then go on about telling a life story I'm not there to learn about him I was there to Learn about psychology
Super easy class. No homework assigned for Psychology 101, just four major tests that are worth 25% of your grade each. The tests contain multiple choice, and essay questions, and he gives you the essay questions in advance. Hilarious lectures, and allows 6 total absences throughout the semester. Highly recommend.
He is so terrible teacher, he talks too much about his life stories. The class is boring and he's not focused on the chapters. He grade exams awful and doesn't have understanding for students. I am disappointed.
The worst professor ever. I am student from another country, but like this bed professor I never see in my life. One class wasn't about what we study only was about his life with stories what are not impossible. He grade very hard and bad! DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Dr. Vielbig was great! I took his 4-week PSY 101 online course and learned an immense amount of information. He does not lecture, but provides you with powerpoints and reading from the textbook. YOU MUST READ. I got a 98% in the class. 4 exams (1 per week). No homework or assignments. I recommend Dr. Vielbig for any PSY class!
I regret taking this class. If you're the type of student like me that likes teachers to dedicate time to students and feel comfortable to ask questions don't take this class! All he does is talk about life experiences, I had never dropped a class and sadly this was my first class I dropped.
One of the funniest professors at AWC. Be prepared to be put on the spot ever once in awhile. Your grade is based off of 4 test's so make sure you study. Doing bad on one of them pretty much seals your grade in.
He's not the friendliest person to talk to but his class isn't hard and his lectures are funny. So, as long as you study, really study, you'll be fine. He does provides study guides for every test at the beginning of the semester, so take advantage of that head start.
Youre soley graded exams. You have 6 days you can miss in his class without being penalized! Cool teacher with funny stories.
Love the stories he relates to the material. He adds study guides that are exactly like the test at the beginning of the semester so if you study it then you should be fine. Six absences are given.
Amazing teacher! I took his online class and it was a test every week but super easy and I actually learned! No homework jus reading and an exam! He also gets right back to emails!
Make sure you attend class everyday and pay attention to his lectures. There is no homework, but you really have to study and make sure you're prepared for the exams. Your grade is only based on your exams so do well on them!! Book is required. His lectures are funny and he's a great teacher. You'll learn a lot. Definitely recommend!
No work what so ever except finals so studying is 100% needed when taking his class
Professor Vielbig just talks the whole class and everything is related to his life. It's kind of boring how he teach. BUT, he provides study guides for every exam that you can print out and !!!STUDY!!!!! those exams aren't easy. if you're good with your grade you decide if you want to take the final. :)
His lectures consist of talking about examples of the definitions but I feel he goes way out of topic sometimes. It's boring for me and, I find him somewhat rude. Grade depends on 4 exams, so you gotta study exactly what's on the guide. I feel like I didn't learn anything, just copy, and paste information. 6/10.
All he does is talk the whole class but hes funny, tests are based on multiple choice and essay questions which are found on blackboard, you dont even need to read the textbook just know the words thats given for the multiple choice and youll be fine, the last exam is optional. Theres no hw and grades are based off of the exams only.
Professor Vielbig is an easy A, but his lectures are long and boring. If you want to just take the class and not learning anything he is your best option. He grades you by 4 exams and that's it. Honestly, take him online so you save yourself an hour of his lecture talking how he is the best at everything. I do not recommend him.
A lot of people say he goes off topic and his stories are boring, but I disagree. He always relates it back to the material somehow. Stories helped to memorize. There's no classwork, there's study guides and only grades four tests (might not have to take last one). You just listen here. Homework is to read - I never did except to study. Easy class
Super funny guy, loved his class. His lectures are more of him relating to personal experiences but if you pay attention you'll be able to understand and use them as examples on exams. He only grades you on the four exams taken also, but the exam reviews are on blackboard since the beginning of the semster. No homework besides reading.
When he starts talking about his life, it is not that he is getting sidetracked but rather giving examples of what the textbook is saying. So pay attention to those stories. Pay attention to what he has to say about the test because it will sometimes not be the same as what the book says. Your grade is made up by 4 tests so study HARD
Honestly, he has to be the worse professor Ive ever had. He can be very disrespectful towards his students even when theyre contacting him for help with an assignment, or simply additional information about assignments. He tells life stories, some that seem fake, and barely talks about actual psychology. Youre on your own with his class.
Doesnt really give notes, he tells stories during lectures that relate to the textbook. Your overall grade is based only on 4 tests. If you like your grade after taking 3 tests, the 4th test is optional.
I took professor Vielbig for the fall semester of 2019. He is great at teaching the course material required. He is also very funny and he talks a lot about stories but always relates them to the exam questions. Do not skip class and always read the chapters in your book in advanced. You take 4 exams, each worth 25%. I would take his class again.
A lot of people say this is a hard class but I found it easy. As long as you read and study you should be fine. If you have trouble memorizing things I dont recommend it though.
I took Vielbig's class online. Grade was determined by 4 exams. Fairly easy concept
Unhelpful professor, minimal contact as well as information given on syllabus.
This wasn't a hard class. It consisted of four exams that had essay questions that are on the reviews he gives you. He's just super picky about how you answer and the examples you give. Be very descriptive cause it isn't certain exactly what he's wanting. If you miss a specific word, he takes off points. I should've had an A but like I said, PICKY.
The entire class is just four tests with essay questions and the reviews have those exact essay questions on them so you can technically take the tests before theyre due yet. I took the class via zoom and wish I took it online to save time. His lectures arent really necessary as long as you have the book or even google. Easy A but be specific.
Professor Vielbig was very funny and direct; he used the textbook to break down the psychology terms but then shared personal anecdotes to help us understand the concepts. His tests were pretty simple and he had the grades updated by the next day. He really knew what he was talking about so I recommend him to any psych/soc majors. 10/10 prof :)
I attended his class via zoom, he does not assign hw or any extra credit. Your grade is based on the exams only. The exams are essay questions only. If you use the textbook you'll be fine. He is very strict with grading so make sure your answers are precise. Very easy class however. The exams are not recorded and the reviews for them available.
The course itself is easy, only 4 exams and the last one is optional if you've taken all previous exams and like your grade. He gives you a review guide with written questions directly from the test but, his lectures I didn't find helpful. They're mainly anecdotes that arent always related to the subject. He doesn't teach the material so study!
This guy infuriated me!!!! This class had 4 tests and he would give an exact list of what part of the textbook to read and take note of. I would always pre write my test answers ahead of time and studied and he was so vague with his critiques!!! I didnt know how to improve when all he would write is 'wrong' 'not quite right' ???
Not a terrible class, not an amazing class. The entire course is based off 4 tests. They are not open note, so you'll have to memorize everything. You're also given all study guides ahead of time. His lectures themselves can be boring, and will more than often just consist of his funny stories, but he occasionally gives nice examples for the exam.
Class is based on only 4 exams and are graded fairly. Make sure to add extra and detailed as possible answers for full credit.
Professor Vielbig is the professor that gives you no homework and only 4 exams, of course this comes at a price. He is extremely picky when it comes to grading the exams and has very short answers. Often times students speak about which professor shouldn't be taken and sadly he's one of them because of how difficult he is when grading.
