This guy is very bright. He used to teach at Boston College and seems to be over qualified for UHD. He is a funny and interesting teacher who wears bow-ties and never lets you get bored. Try you to be late to class. Trust me, you don't want to miss any part of the Westfall show.

If there is one thing to say about this professor,aside from his disarmingly charming good looks, is that he has a passion for what he teaches. professor westfall is incredibly handsome and charming. this can be a little distracting in class. he is EXTREMELY enthusiastic about the subject he teaches, and very fond of laughing at his own jokes (which are *usually* funny). if you do the readings and MAKE SURE TO GO TO CLASS, you will do fine.

I went in to Dr.Westafall's class not knowing what a phil class was like. And I still have no idea what we were talking most of the time. He helps you understand the text, or how it could be understood. Sometimes he seemed as a jerk, but he would later be normal again. Go to class because he counts it.

You learn theories of life, morality, and ethics. It's very interesting. For those very religious, be care of this class esp. with Westfall. He's a great teacher, explains everything crystal clear, and provides great examples to make clear. He's ok looking, it's his charm, funny jokes, and confidence that makes him attractive, I guess. o_O

Before taking this class I had very minimal interest in Philosophy, and now I cannot wait to take more. He is funny, charming and handsome. His class is not easy, but with effort it is no problem. It is so refreshing to attend a class like this and actually come away with something from it. I would definitely recommend him to anyone!

Dr. Westfall is a very knowledgeable, authoritative Ph.D. More importantly, he is more than willing to meet with you to discuss the texts. However, the class is VERY challenging! The reading materials are very dense, very abstruse but it is critical for you to digest those readings as your pop quiz and exams are based on your understanding of them.

Great teacher! However, be prepared to work for your grade. If you don't read the text you will fail this course, no question about it. Very funny (although sometimes his jokes can get offensive). Good looking in a nerdy kind of way. Greatly resembles Waldo (from the Where's Waldo Books).

Dr. Westfall is one of the most engaging, brilliant professors at UHD, not to mention he has a great sense of humor. I seriously recommend this professor, but be prepared to work hard for an A. However, be prepared for a great learning experience as well, as he is one of the best lecturers I've ever encountered.

Dr Westfall is a great prof. He's bright and engaging. I took his Intro class, because I had to have it for my degree and fell in love with the subject. So, I took Meaning of Life. I didn't pull off an A, but I learned so much. He's also very eay to talk to. We always had very interesting discussions. Okay, and the man is hot.

Dr. W. is an wonderful instructer. After the readings you may be a bit confused but when you attend class his explains everything well. He works with you. He grades hard but fair. You must be in attendance and read the assignments to pass the test. I recommend him highly.

Dr. Westfall Makes Bowties look good. He is hard to take notes from, but knows his stuff. Loves to drop the F-bomb, so if you get offended easily, you may want to consider a different professor. Interesting man, funny, and keeps your attention. Make sure you read the text ahead of time or you will be lost. Westfall's class is hard for those who don't have good work ethic, read what you're supposed to read and you will be allured by him in the class. He is very smart, charming and intelligent, one of the best professors at the University. If you question the meaning of anything and you are inclined, take him. He's an oddity.

I've taken both an in person and online class with him. He is honestly THE best professor I've ever had. There's a lot more work involved for the online class and it's easy to get behind. But he offers extra credit and let us turn in a few missed assignments late. I will continue to take his classes during my time at UHD!

Dr. Westfall is really funny and his class is the kind you will never want to skip. His essays are not bad at all just have to do them he isn't a bad grader either as long as you try he will give you a fair grade. He is one of the best professors I've ever had. I was a first time philosophy student and didn't know what to expect. He made me want to take more philosophy classes, but time does not permit. He has amazing lectures. They are specific, and to the point. He does not get off topic, and he makes the reading very clear. You can get away without reading, but if you want an A or B you should read. He is easy to talk to, and is very good about not only meeting in person but replying on emails. This is my first time taking Professor Westfall. I have heard from other students that he is a difficult grader and a hard teacher. I did my work, I studied hard, and I think I did ok. He is a nice professor. Fifty percent of our grade was from online discussion. If you do your work you will pass, but it takes a lot to get a good grade.

He's an amazing professor- the best I've had- he's incredibly funny & witty. Because of taking his intro class I decided to min. in Phil. I Rely heavily on his lectures to understand the material (he explains well) , which is without a doubt, difficult- so SHOW UP. Papers- no tests. Took a film & phil class where we watch a 90 min movie in class and lecture for 1h. His lectures are hilarious! He explains the material very well, but you still need to read before class. Tough grader but is available outside of class. Grade is based on 3 papers and the final is a 15 min oral exam.

Amazing professor! He isn't too bad to look at either. This class was not hard at all. You need 5 - 6 books but they are super cheap to buy online or in store. Final exam is an in class paper that needs to be at least 2 pages long. Very good at answering questions through email or in person. Easy class, you need to read!

Doctor Westfall is an amazing professor and if nothing else he will make your semester much more enjoyable. I refused to miss class at all this semester because I did not want to miss out on his lectures. However, If you do not like writing well thought out papers and reading do not take this class.

Professor Westfall is amazing. One of the best professors at UHD. This class he expects you to bring your all. He is very passionate about philosophy and you should join the philosophy club. In this class we had 6 5-page papers, 1 project, and 1 8-page paper. It sounds like a lot, but they are all fun to write. This class helps you appreciate art.

What a great Professor. Very funny and a sharp dresser. You can tell he is passionate about the subject. Expect to read all semester but there are no exams except the Final; just 3 paper in the meantime. I liked that there really were no right or wrong answers in the papers, as long as you provided sufficient evidence to back your claims.

Difficult class unless you are a philosophy major. Prof breaks down material to make it understandable on his daily blog. Several papers to write. Grades come back at the end of the semester so you aren't sure how you are doing, but aside from that, he is an excellent professor. Quick to reply to emails which is really helpful.

Good professor. I took him for ethics in the summer. Had to read (book and class blog) and comment on 2 blog posts per week and wrote 4 three page papers. Only downfall is that you don't see a grade until it is posted in the UHD system, so you really have no idea how you are doing during the semester.

I took PHIL 2305 in Summer III 2017 with Dr. Westfall. More reading than expected and all of the assignments were written. Two blog posts per each week and 4 philosophical papers. Material covered is balanced. Dr. Westfall gives you the freedom to express your position and you are encouraged to defend it. Slow to grade but he is very fair.

By far my favorite professor at UHD. Very understanding and hilarious as well. The readings were quite interesting and he is a great lecturer. Will definitely take another one of his courses.

Dr. Westfall was very helpful to me in understanding the work concept of the class because I was used to a different teaching style. He is very accessible and he is returning answers to e-mails very quickly. He cares about his students and gives good feedback.

Mr. Westfall is an amazing philosopher! He makes lectures interesting and brightens your day with jokes. He resembles John green a lot. There are only 4 papers which are the only assignments in this class. What I suggest is to not take an English class while taking philosophy because writing essays for two classes would be a wreck.

Took A Meaning To Life class with Dr. Westfall and it was a very fun learning experience. We had four essays throughout the entire course in which you are challenged to think like a philosopher and explain what YOU believe in. Fun class and fun professor! Would take another class from Dr. Westfall.

He is a really animated teacher but it was a good deal of reading. His class time is usually him basically explaining the books so if you want to get a more modern rendition of the book, show up to class. Most of the papers I worked on the day it was due and ended up making A's so as long as you show up and listen, you're golden. READ THE TEXT BOOK

I really enjoyed this class thanks to Dr Westfall. My major is not focused in the humanities but I was still interested from start to finish because we focused on relevant ethical issues. Simply do the work he asks of you (discuss. posts, video response, papers) and the A is yours. If I needed another phil. course, I would certainly retake him.

Dr. Westfall is by far one of the best professors I've ever had. He is very clear with expectations and cares deeply about his students. I took his online class. We had 4 reflection papers, one per week, and a final paper. We also had 2 discussion posts by week and video responses to a daily question. Overall, I recommend him. Reading heavy class.

Don't be fooled by the bad reviews! I took his class last semester and he is great! Yes, there is heavy reading but after he assigns it, there is always a discussion so you can understand. Taking him made me change my minor because he is THAT good of a professor. As long as you do the work and apply his feedback you will be fine.

I found it really funny that there's a lot of comments complaining about the amount of reading and writing you have to do. It's a philosophy course, you're obviously going to have to read and write! Dr. Westfall provides great feedback not only on papers, but on discussion board posts as well. I'd definitely recommend him.

I took Meaning of Life last summer and, for a 2000 level class, it was surprisingly difficult! Huge amount of complicated reading, lots of discussion posts, and essays. However, you can tell Westfall cares and loves his job; he provides good, meticulous feedback. If you actually try, this class can change your life! Existentialism is interesting!

One the best professors Ive ever had in my college career. Super funny and interesting lectures. Have had some amazing and insightful conversations with him and hes always ready to listen to your opinions, views and give advice. There is a discussion and a video question due weekly and it's only worth 20% of your grade. total of 4 papers, that's worth the other 80%. HEAVY weekly readings. LONG papers due. there are 5 essays and quizzes that is graded on participation, so u should get a 100 on quizzes. must attend class for the big question. he does not grade ur paper until the end of the semester so u have no idea what your grade is and how u can improve. he's really great at lecturing PHIL and makes PHIL very interesting.

I am taking this course in a mini session and while it is a LOT of information in a short amount of time, the course is outlined well and the students were able to vote on which ethical topics we discussed. There are daily readings and discussions (since it's an accelerated course) and weekly papers (4-5 pages). It is hard, but not impossible.

Took this class for winter semester. It was a lot of reading but we got to choose the topics were actually interested in. Grade is mostly based off essays, discussion participation and video participation. Just keep up with those and youll get an easy A

I enjoyed this class because of Dr. Westfall. I needed a philosophy class and I enjoy film, so this seemed like a good class to take since philosophy is not my thing. He does an amazing job of showing his love for teaching and his subject matter. I enjoyed being introduced to many different genres of film. Dr. Westfall gives great feedback

It's a simple class just be ready to read a lot. At the beginning of class, Professor will start with a question, then lecture over the readings. The lectures are boring but he will crack a joke now and then. Only have to do 3 essays of the readings, and 2 major papers which are 4-5 pages long. Not a tough grader and will provide feedback.

Professor Westfall is my favorite prof I've ever had. He's one of the smartest people I know, his knowledge is so extensive and you can tell he really loves hearing from every student and what each has to say. He will never make you feel dumb or like you are asking the wrong questions. His philosophy will definitely have impact on you for years.

Took Phil 3301 during a minimester and it was straightforward with easy to understand expectations. Graded on few things that are explained thoroughly. Easy A if you do the work. Dr. Westfall is accessible and answers questions. Very thought provoking class with a manageable work load. Would take again without a doubt.

This class was challenging for me due to it being my first aesthetics class and my unfamiliarity with film overall, but it was worth it because it is also the one I learned the most in. He is a little tougher on grading, but I am grateful because he pushed me to produce writing I was proud of. Taking him next semester as well.

I made an account just so I could share how great my experience was taking 2305 with Westfall. His assignments make you think, and you leave the class knowing you learned new things. The textbook is definitely mandatory for full comprehension. Lots of writing in this class, but I could not recommend a philosophy professor any more than him.

This class was honestly really hard but that's not his fault The reading was SO difficult and this course requires 5 papers to be turned in total but you choose when to turn 3 of those 5 in You have a reading every week. He makes you talk in every single class as a grade. He's really nice and caring and not a hard grader Hes passionate and it shows

Westfall is really passionate and cares about this course. This course is difficult but very worth it. I guarantee you will have such a wider viewpoint when this course is over. You do have to do some readings, and they are hard, but it's not impossible. Take this class. It's so worth it.

Westfall's class is challenging but rewarding. Lots of writing, but the assignments make you think. The textbook is a must-read. I found Unstuckstudy and ChatGPT helpful for study prep. Overall, a great philosophy course.

Very cool professor

I enjoyed this class so much that I questioned my major. He was so funny and made the class engaging. The material was easy to understand, and he was an easy grader. He's also insanely attractive, which made showing up for class easy.

He was the best professor i've had! You can tell he really loves what he does and will pour into you if you show up. The class had me questioning my major which then led me to the major I am now and I'm grateful. 4 essays in total and all fairly easy to do. Saw a comment that said he was hot and I agree!!

Dr. Westfall is a great professor. He breaks down Philosophy texts in a clear, simple way and you can tell he loves the subject. He follows the syllabus, communicates well, and keeps the class organized. No tests or quizzes, But a lot of writing. Do the readings and the class feels smooth and straightforward.

Dr. Westfall is interesting. His jokes didn't always land, and he often got off topic (sometimes uncomfortably so). Other than that, he's very kind and answers his emails. Buy the physical versions of the books - he lets you use them during the final (annotation and all!). Took him purely because someone said he was hot... no. He's chill, tho.
