Professor Alley is amazing, I took him for Contemporary Art History and he is the best. He is super funny and makes the class so much fun. He keeps you awake and the tests are just power points where you name the piece and write 4 significant points. Love him, 100% recommend! (:
Prof Alley is amazing. He makes learning about art fun and interesting. He's very clear about grading and tests, and as long as you study the study guide he gives out, you should get an A.
I took Mr. Alleys ART 111 class and he is an awesome instructor! I ended with an A, last time I checked my number grade I had 101% in the class, very very easy, tests are not hard at all, just have to memorize a few things but overall I really enjoyed the class, he made it very interesting and hes really funny! Would 100% recommend
I took Professor Alley in 2014 Fall semester and I thought he would be tough. But after the second week of class I found it to become the MOST EASIEST CLASS I had ever took. The HW is always online. (just look the answers online lol). He is a very nice guy who likes to joke a lot. He would ask he class how some assignments would they prefer.
SERIOUSLY MY MOST FAVORITE TEACHER IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD!!!!! Omg he was SO sweet and funny, made class SO interesting, even the history part, and I absolutely hate history. He will tell you every single thing that's on his tests and he is also super lenient with turn in dates. I turned some stuff in 2 weeks late and got full credit. AMAZING!3
You can really tell he enjoys what he teaches which i find great but i have to say art history just isn't for me.. it's such an open ended subject and im more of a straight to the point kind of person. i LOVE learning but i just can't get into art history which kind of disappoints me. oh well, take him if youre an art history major, hes perf for it
One of the first community college courses I took and by far one of my favorites. Coming into art history just for GD credit and expecting it to be another boring class, Professor Alley managed to make lectures both engaging and interesting. He's clear on what he expects and as long as you come to lecture, you'll be more than ready for each exam.
Best art history professor ever! Very friendly and approachable. Even though art history is already a boring subject itself, he knows what he's talking about and if you study the material that he tells you to study then you will pass with an easy A.
He is one of the best instructors that I have ever seen! His classes are fun and easy learning! Easy exams and quizzes!
He can take an absolutely boring subject and turn it into an interestingfunny lecture. The tests are easy and the class is always interesting. Would recommend!
I have never taken a Art history class before and I highly recommend Alleys classes. Hes great at lectures and the material is very interesting. Hes slow on grading and sometimes forgets to put assignments online but other than that Josh is a very sincere and kind professor. Thank you
Professor Alley is such a cool guy!! This was one of the last classes I need to transfer and I was dreading it. Prior to this class, I had no interest in art history. Alley turned that around as he was hilarious from day one! Very easy as long as you go to lectures. Makes the subject interesting and entertaining.
GREAT professor. In class "quiz" every week, be there & you will get 100% on them. Journal entries, forums, and exams on blackboard. Museum visit & essay. 5 page research paper due end of semester. Easy & reasonable grader, very lenient w due dates. Don't buy the book. I have never been a good student but got an A. Highly recommend taking him.
He is a young teacher so he knows what's up. He's not hard on grading, but there are lots of little things for homework. He's funny and creates a fun vibe. Not really into History, but he made the class fun!
I had to miss class many times but Professor Alley's class still ranks as my favorite of the semester. His lectures make learning history fun as he puts his own spin on every story. Study for the tests, do the online homework, turn in your papers, and you will get an A! Remember the fun little details he says about each artwork and you will pass!
Professor Alley is a great teacher! He understands the struggles of college life and will work with you. 1010 an awesome teacher, would take another course with him. P.S. Don't drink too much pre-workout and miss class. Trust....
Professor Alley has such an amazing personality, it's hard not to enjoy his dad-like presence! I really enjoyed his class, but I was not that interested in the subject. But through his assignments and lectures, I have found a better interest and appreciation in art culture. One thing I hated was the final paper, but other than that he's cool.
In all honesty, such a boring class but Prof. Alley makes it worthwhile. He is absolutely hilarious, which helps with the occasional lengthy lecture, and he makes it really easy on his students. Don't forget to turn in the take home portion of the exam and do the quizzes! Screwed myself over because of that.
Professor Alley is a great, easy going, laid back guy. He throws some inspirational stories through his personal life as well as funny ones. Good comedy teacher and understands students well so he doesn't assign hw like you have no other class to take. Gives extra credit opportunities and curves so he wants you to pass. No regrets! Lovely professor
I took 2 of his Art History class. He is a inspired, cool and helpful teacher!!! His quizzes are one blackboard and you will have plenty of time to do so. His exams are pretty clear. He always go for a review before every exam so if you study, you will get an A!!!
This guy rocks. He seems to have a real passion for what he teaches. Its like listening to a story, quite amazing. His exams are easy but really helps to emphasis the main points and how art changes depending on the culture and time frame. I am sad this was the last art history class I had to take. Nearly got inspired to become a teacher.
Awesome professor. Very understanding when it comes to rescheduling exams and due dates. Very knowledgable when it comes to the subject and makes the most dull art periods seem fun and interesting. Fun and interactive class environment. Highly recommended.
Professor Alley is a really great professor. His passion in art shows through his lectures. He is very understanding and caring. I've learned quite a bit about art from his class. Museum visits, research paper, and easy exams. A great class for honors contract.
I love Mr. Alley. He's amazing! He's knowledgeable. Got nothing to complain.
Mr. Alley is one of the best teachers I have had. He makes the subject fun and interesting for students. He enjoys what he does and cares about his students. There is little to no homework, a few discussions on blackboard and one research paper at the end of the semester. Exams are easy as long as you pay attention in class and take good notes.
He makes learning art history incredibly fun and entertaining while still staying on-topic. His lectures are superb and attendance is crucial because everything you need for your exams are from his lectures. He also gives study guides, has a comparison paper due at the end of the term, and requires you to visit a museum. He is one of my favorites.
Alley makes art history really interesting and fun! The exams are easy as long as you're good at memorizing. Even if you do bad on the exams there's a lot of little assignments that add up to your grade. Showing up to class is crucial as all the exam info is attained from lecture. Overall, I recommend taking his class!
Best class I've taken at Miramar, just by going to class you get interested in what he's teaching, pretty much there's three tests in the semester and a couple writing assignments that make up your grade. Go to class and review your notes for the test you'll be fine
Prof Alley is my all time favorite professor. I've taken 2 courses (Artf110 and Artf111). Come to class, look at art, and take notes. There are 3 big exams, two papers, and a few other online assignments but if you pay attention in class (which isn't hard because it's very entertaining) you'll be fine. also accepts late work for the most part
Alley is great teacher. Very funny and knowledgeable easily one of my favorite professors.
I've taken two of his classes before and took him this semester for African/Oceania/Indigenous American Art History. He always tells you what to study for on his exams so flashcards/Quizlet will help you immensely. He gives a lot of leniency when answering the exam questions. The only assignment that consumes the most time is the research paper.
Josh Alley is the BEST!!! I actually just registered to take Art History 111 with him next semester! Most days are lectures on pieces of art, but he makes the lectures fun to listen to. You only have one research paper due in his class, and 4 tests, that if you study, you WILL get an A. Overall, the BEST!!!
BEST prof ever! He's young, really funny & joke with the class but still teach well. Amazing lectures, the subject is boring but he makes it fun. 3 exams, one research paper, and one museum visit essay. Easy on grading. He has review material of everything that will be on the test. Really slow at grading tho. Overall, easy A! loved this class
Two papers in total - one is a museum visit essay (2 pages) and the other is a comparative essay (5 pages) but there is a rough/final draft. Hes very funny and even if you arent an art major, youll definitely find his class interesting bc of his sense of humor and the ways hell engage you w fun art activities... Im not artistic myself.
Prof alley is one of the best! Hes really nice & chill & hilarious! He has a file on blackboard that tells you which artworks will be on the test. Youre really going to class for participation points cuz he takes 5 points off your grade each time you miss a class. One thing I dont like about him is that HE IS SUPER SUPER SLOW AT GRADING.
Josh Alley is an amazing professor who truly cares about your success in his class. This class is easy as long as you're good at memorizing, his tests are based on many paintings and vocabulary terms. As long as you study you should be able to get 100%! The only bad thing about him is that he takes way too long to grade things.
I've had Professor Alley for Art 100, 110, 125 and currently taking him for Art 111 and 109. Classes are straightforward and very enjoyable. His knowledge and passion for art history really show. Grades are based on journals, forums, 3 exams, museum paper and research paper but it's really easy to get an A in the class. Highly recommend him
Alley is an incredible professor! His lectures are hilarious, especially his powerpoints! He's really engaged with his students and ensures that we obtain as much information as possible in what could be considered as a dry subject to most. He is very transparent with his semester-long assignments. He takes a while to grade but that's minor.
I took 3 of Prof Alley's classes at once(109,110,111), and I loved all of them. He's a great guy and he's so easy to find and talk to if you ever need any help. He's super passionate about what he's teaching and down to earth about how we may not feel the same. His lectures and expectations are clear, and I actually retained most of what he taught.
Josh is a wonderful professor! I have never once felt overloaded in his class but we still cover so much material. If you show up to class and pay attention you can get a high grade. Absolutely wonderful professor I would recommend him to everyone!
AWESOME
His class was so interesting, we did things that pushed our boundaries about art. He wants you to experience things as you are learning them. Every week we had a different activity that was super interesting and unique. I would take this class again, for it was so much fun. He is one of the most engaging professors I've had. Take his class.
Professor Alley is really nice and his lectures are interesting. Two papers, a museum essay (no research required), and a 5 pg research essay. He's an easy grader on exams too. Show up to class, do the online quizzes, and go over the review he puts up online for exams. Easy A.
Professor Alley is definitely the best professor I've ever had. I was not a big fan of art at first, but after taking his art 100, I think I fell in love with it. His lecture is so interesting and fun. Such a good professor! There will be some online quizzes, 3 in-class tests (also including online part), 1 project, and 1 final.
Take Professor Alley! He makes his lectures entertaining and always gives hints on exactly what to study for the tests. I took him for two classes (ARTF110 and ARTF111) as long as you put moderate effort, you can't fail.
Professor Alley is a fantastic teacher. He is great at explaining concepts and artistic movements so they are easy to understand and identify. He is happy to answer any questions. As long as you pay attention in class you will get a pass. The tests and homework are easy to understand and are well covered in class.
I don't think I've ever enjoyed a community college class as much as I have this one! He makes every subject and topic extremely interesting and exciting. His class allowed me to know the foundation for different art pieces around the world. Highly recommend taking him, he's just too good of a teacher not to take. The class is very manageable.
Brother Alley is such a terrific teacher! He cares about the subject matter and it is infectious. He is very funny and makes learning about art interesting. He gives a lot of examples of what he expects through videos and is accessible if you have any concerns. He is definitely one to take. You won't regret it.
Brother Alley is amazing! If you are nervous about Humanities, don't be. He will make art relevant and interesting to you. He puts together great videos and some are just hilarious. He is active on the discussion boards and you will have everything you need to be a success in his class. Don't hesitate to take his class - I would take it again!
I have taken 4 classes with Josh, he is super nice, funny, and really cares about students and his work. You got 3 exams, a 4th optional one to make up a bad grade. In the beginning of the semester you use the textbook but after the halfway point you don't need it. you have some reading and 2 essays. A great Professor!
I love Josh Alley!! He's hilarious and an easy grader. Overall, his class is that one class after you've had a bad day and you can come inside, eat & relax. I literally shared food with him and my friends LOL. Take him, you will not regret it. Super fun! He even made my boyfriend stand on top of his desk for fun and everyone laughed haha
Alley is a really cool guy, and has a fun, approachable way of teaching Art History. As a CompSci major, I've never had much interest in an art class, but modern art with Alley is by far one of my favorite classes at Miramar. One thing to beware is the tests are strictly memorization, but he is a lenient grader.
The class was very fun and not difficult at all. It was a class you wouldn't want to miss. Professor Alley was very hilarious and fun. The workload was easy and we only took like 3 tests. However, you should study for the exams by using the lecture slides and notes, and you'll get an easy A.
Professor Josh is a great teacher! His classes are fun and easy, as long as you keep up with the weekly readings and quizzes you'll be fine! Got an easy A in the class. Participate and you'll pass. make sure you get the book! Take him!!!!!
He's a really cool guy and also really funny. I didn't do well on his first test. Luckily he offers a makeup test at the end of the semester which drops your lowest test score. The tests are easy just as long as you actually study. His homework is really easy too. You have to do a "work of art" by the end of the semester which was pretty fun.
10/10 The best professor at miramar. Super funny, kind and patient with students, helpful; just all around fantastic. He really has his class structure down, and can get anyone interested in art history. I took 4 classes with him and they were all well organized and full of interesting info. 3 exams, various short writing responses, and 2 essays.
Probably one of my favorite professors and he's funny and is kind and patient to his students. He is pretty lenient with grades, but note that the quizzes and his exams are pure memorization. (His Exams aren't as intimidating then as it looks!) So as long you stay on track, you should be good with an A! Would take him again If I had the chance.
Quizzes are easy, but the other assignments are heavy and a lot, I spent time on assignments more than expected. I do not recommend Josh Alley at all. lots of researches and long discussions. The worst thing is late grading for more than 3-4 weeks.
Josh Alley is outstanding! Very good at reviewing every work of art in-depth and tells you every work of art that's going to be on the test and even puts together a whole document with slides with every work of art that is most likely going to be on the test. So I recommend you study hard but don't worry if you don't! Very lenient grader and kind.
A great professor who is passionate about teaching Art History and does sometimes joke about the artworks during lecture. He is a very lenient grader and you will get an A as long as you show up to class and did some level of study for his exam. Participation is part of your grade so make sure to show up. However, the work for honors can be heavy.
You can tell the professor actually cares about the arts with the amount of work he makes his students do. I say this lightly because the homework is very easy, but there is a lot of it. There are a couple of papers and various assignments and quizzes about art but all of the answers are online. Have fun with it!
Overall, this was an easy class. Professor Josh gives lectures at every class meeting, however, those lectures are really helpful. The tests are easy as long as you memorize the information that he tells you to remember. You'll also have to do in class group activities. There are also a few papers and an artwork project that the professor assigns.
I took the online course and it was straightforward. We used mindtap and all the quizzes were online and easy. I spent way more time than I thought I would on the assignments and discussion boards, more time than I should've. The writing assignments are long and require a lot of info but he grades them really easily. He also takes WEEKS to grade.
GREAT PROFESSOR !! Take him, he is so funny and caring !
Very chill guy, really loves his job. VERY relaxed regarding grading, but he takes a while to do so. Class is lecture heavy, but they're fun. I rarely needed to read the textbook. Tests are memorization heavy but the same questions as the HW, which I spent 2-3hr/week on. Easy class, some projects which were okay; Awesome dude
HE IS THE BEST. He was so bummed when we had to move to online but he made it work! Please take him! He is so lenient and truly understands his students. He's very funny and chill. 2 big projects at the end BUT if you did the work throughout the class then you're basically done w/ the project. He really loves his job and he is very passionate.
I just finished taking his summer class, and I highly recommend it! This course was only a month-long and it still was not hard to pass AT ALL. You just have to do the assignments *1 worth 100 pts, final project 200. Quizzes are easy and no tests. As long as you are willing to put in effort you should have no problem. Quick and easy grader!
Amazing teacher! Not an art major, but he is able to use humor and a relax setting to make class really enjoyable. The class is basically him going over his lecture slides but being in class he shows the meaning behind the art, something that isn't shown on those slides. Take it if you need an easy class
such a great teacher! he's nice and hilarious and makes art history not boring! I would definitely recommend taking notes in class because those notes will be really helpful for exams, but he's super lenient with turning in late homework and is one of the nicest teachers I have ever had. I did have to memorize painting names for exams tho!
Although I did only take this class online it was great. At first when you look at the syllabus you probably will feel overwhelmed, but everything is spread out,the quizzes are easy and projects are actually fun to do! There are a few assignments that will require some typing but it still is not bad. Professor Alley also got back to me very quick
Best art history professor ever! He is so funny and caring, please take. You will not regret it.
Fantastic teaching methods; tactful; good listener; very organized; really knows his stuff; personable; relates to students very well; loves what he does; adapted very well to going to online classes when COVID hit.
Easily one of the best teachers at Miramar. Take his classes!
This class was so enjoyable and he is really understanding outside of class. If you ever need help you can send an email and hell answer quickly. Lectures are interesting and homework is really easy, even if it seems overwhelming sometimes. Even if you are not good at drawing all you need to do is put in effort. Really enjoyed this class.
Fall 2020 - Online -There is a lot of assignments but if you read the book and prepare for them - then you should pass. He responds quickly and is always ready to help. Follow his instructions and do the work - remember it is art so do not be afraid to get creative and put some thought into it. There is a quiz or two every week but they are simple.
Really easy professor, highly recommend him! I took his 6 week course and it was doable.
Looking for an easy A? This is not the class for you. Lots of reading, weekly quizzes and assignments due. Professor is great and accessible and gives good feedback. You do have to draw and understand the concept, also you will have to write papers. My final was 15+ pages long to say the least. But you do learn and professor makes it enjoyable.
Having taken Prof Alley for ARTF110 in person for Fall 2019, I enjoyed learning ARTF100 and the coursework isn't bad if you stay on top of it and he's willing to allow you to turn late work in with full credit. Mindtap is used for this course and you also do a project in the end. Do all the work with reasonable effort, you will pass with an A.
Too much work. Feels like a media literacy class more than Art History. He is a compassionate teacher and it is clear he is trying to make the class more interesting but the workload was excessive even if the assignments were simple. It is a good class if you are within the major but do not take it for a GE requirement.
Second time with this professor. Great material and great teaching online skills. Appreciate this as pandemic has hindered onsite benefits. He cares.
Professor Alley was very kind. I had a lot of problems come up half through the class and he was very understanding. He helped me get caught up and was over all very kind to me.
Had some very interesting material and was a very passionate speaker!!!! Just had to watch a lecture and doing a drawing assignment and easy quiz each week. But the lectures were very solid and engaging to listen to!!! Would definitely take another class from him since he was also just overall an understanding human :)
Professor Alley is a super caring professor who really strives to give you the most of your experience when taking this course. His lectures are very interesting and the while the homework can be tedious, its engaging and doable.
I took this class fully online and really enjoyed it. Watch the weekly lectures and you will get all the info you need for the weekly assignments. Definitely recommend this class!
Professor Alley is amazing! Super caring and always strives to make sure your’re understanding art history in a fun and interactive way. Great Professor and would certainly recommend !!! :) Homework and tests are super manageable and honestly quite interesting and fun!
BEST PROF...
A very solid class, lectures were very enjoyable and you could tell he loved teaching. There is a good chunk of reading for assignments but not anything difficult. Also very lenient towards grading and due dates.
I LOVE THIS PROFESSOR. Cannot say enough great things about him, he's really funny and gives great lectures. Definitely would recommend!!
He is an amazing lecturer and you can tell he really enjoys what he teaches. He's naturally really funny. While we did have 2 assignments per week (one of them being a quiz/exam), the class itself was enjoyable, and I would take it again. Attendance counts and if you miss a day, chances are you missed something important.
Asynchronous. Quizzes are simple to figure out. Art projects were fun, cool to see other students' work. Cool dude, replies to emails in a timely manner. Overall enjoyable class and teacher, clearly cares about what he teaches and isn't just there to get things done.
Class was easy but informative. Professor was funny and very engaging, he is obviously fascinated by his subject and is very good at teaching it. The textbook was free online and we didn't use it much. Not strict with deadlines and plenty of opportunity for extra credit.
I had a great experience in this class. He's very willing to help students, and his assignments are super engaging. Very understanding about late work, and grades artwork on effort, not on looks. Overall, he's a super nice guy that's clearly passionate about his teaching, and I would definitely take another one of his courses in the future.
Love this professor. Don't fall behind because the work will catch up with you and you'll end up with a poor grade (I say this from experience). He is an amazing professor with amazing lectures. The stuff he taught, I still remember. Assignments are easy but if you procrastinate they can become overwhelming.
You should definitely take his class, all lectures are interesting and never boring. You can turn in late work and it won't affect your grade as long as you don't fall behind. He is also very funny, and passionate about his class
This class has been my favorite I have taken so far. The lectures are really interesting even if you don't like art. He does a great job teaching and I really appreciated his class and would take it again. Also there's no penalty for submitting late work!
He was a great professor and very passionate about his teachings. He is always trying to help and tolerates a lot of time for late work. There is a lot of assignments but it is manageable with the time he allows until submission. Make sure you stay on top of your work and have fun with the creative assignments given. Definitely take him!!
This professor is the reason I am continuing to take more art classes. He is clear with instructions and due dates, if you reach out to him hell get back to you within 2 days or less. His lecture is very fun and keeps you engaged. Quiz and exams are well explained.
Lots of busywork but easy A
Professor Alley is a great professor who evidently loves teaching and loves combining a mix of studying as well as creating projects. I am interested in art and also took this class for credit and found myself to be interested and engaged.
Best PROFESSOR EVER. Hes funny. He gives easy assignments but these assignments you are still learning alot about art history. Very engaging. Just do the work which is simple. And youll get an A. Awesome professor. Taken multiple classes from him. Dont choose anyone else.
Super passionate about the subject so it makes the class super fun. Condensed, 8 wk course so workload is heavier but manageable if you put in the effort. About 2-3 assignments & 2 quizzes a week; all easy just a lil tedious. He accepts late work & gives great feedback. Grades based off effort so just show that you try and you'll get a good grade.
The class itself was very enjoyable and I would really recommend it if you're into history or art. The only thing that I had problems with was the work load but if you're good with managing homework every week it shouldn't be a problem.
Professor Alley's ART111 class is a gem - engaging lectures, manageable workload, and helpful resources like unstuck AI to ace the course. The leniency on late work is a plus too.
He is a pretty outgoing and friendly teacher so I enjoyed most of this class. But it is very homework heavy and we were required to watch video lectures before class that he was gonna talk about in-class anyhow. If you're an introvert, be prepared for lots of in class activities!
One of my favorite professors at Miramar! Weekly open-book quizzes and one assignment—either an art project or another activity. Only 3 easy exams, and the last one was a Kahoot you got credit for by attending. He includes fun lecture activities that make class super engaging, low-stress, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone.
This professor understands people take it for GE or major prep, so he makes it interesting, we sent in PowerPoint presentations as tests and had small, full DIY projects at home to submit. overall, a great and easy class, Alley is also super nice and approachable if you have any questions at all.
Very kind and understanding! One of my favorite professors
Literal fave professor of all time. Super enthusiastic and has contagious joy. Super forgiving with deadlines, which I'm terribly grateful for. He encourages discussion and participation. You can tell he loves what he does and does what he loves.
Professor Alley makes learning about art fun and that's coming from someone that doesn't have an artistic bone in their body. You will have to turn in quite a bit of assignments so try not to fall behind although thankfully he accepts late work for full credit.
Lectures are very engaging and he's flexible on deadlines. That can be helpful, but beware if you're a procrastinator. Quizzes aren't hard, but they're kind of tedious for only 10%. Final exam was a blast :)
Professor Alley had online lectures to watch for each homework assignment, and was a pretty lenient grader. Homework was clear, but required a lot of research and writing.
Professor Alley is one of my favorite professors! I've taken two of his classes and enjoyed both equally. His lectures are fun, engaging, and filled with helpful information (definitely take notes, they'll help on the exams). There are weekly quizzes, two reading critiques and one final project. Highly recommend for anyone into art history.
He's a fun little guy. His class was never really something I had to worry about, and actually helped me relax since I could just make art for the fun of it without worrying about skill. He does take a while to grade which means feedback comes late and you might have to wait to redo or fix something. Otherwise, material is incredibly easy. Take him
TAKE THIS CLASS! Easiest A as long as you read the mini-readings that are provided and use them for the quizzes, you'll pass. We had some art assigned and were graded by effort and not skill. He was a really down-to-earth type of guy. I really enjoyed being in his class!
He's the best professor I've had so far! The assignments were clear, and the weekly quizzes were easy. It was an eight-week course with plenty of straightforward work, great feedback, and flexible deadlines. He's very understanding, and overall, it was an awesome class! :)
Great online course, the assignments were very clear and didn't take a long time to complete. The topics were overall very interesting, and I had a great time in this class.
Great class!
Great teacher, you do art activities in class to help you understand art movements. You can share your thoughts and opinions on the art in class. Class usually ends early. He is accessible outside of class, always answers when I email. Your assignments can be late and still get full credit, as long as you turn it before the second deadline.
