The best man for the job! He is not happy unless you understand completely. Very good power points to help clarify the subject at hand, loves interaction. Several of us had a different professor for lecture and he is our lab professor. Without him we would not have made such a great grade in lecture!

He is a great teacher! He very much wants you to understand the subject and is very willing to help you with any questions you may have. I absolutely loved going to lecture and lab. His tests are not terribly hard, you just need to pay attention to basic information and have a good understanding of the processes.

He was my favorite teacher this semester. Since he's invested in your learning, it makes it easier to get a good grade. His class isn't easy; you have to show up and do the work. But at least when you do it you'll be confident you're doing it right. Awesome teacher, wish he taught more classes.

Professor Fairbanks' passion for the subject is contagious! If you come to class and take notes you will do well. The textbook is unnecessary, he tests from lecture. He is a great professor. He understands that most students taking his class are there just to get a science credit, therefore, he does not make Geology your life. There is no book, just lecture outlines that you print and fill in. The test questions are straight from the lecture notes, with a test review that is given 100% for participation.

He's overall a nice teacher. Work in lab is really easy he makes you do it then gives you the answers at the end of class. Lecture is always taking notes and sometimes daily assignments to draw what he draws on the board. Overall pretty easy gives a review for the tests and majority of the answers to it. I wish I had taken him for Geology I after I took his Geology II class. He is friendly and makes a legitimate effort to get to know his students. Prof. Fairbanks passes out outlines for each lecture, so if you complete the outline you will be ready for class. If you attend every day and take notes, then you should be able to pass with an easy A or B.

Geology lab had me scared; but Prof. Fairbanks made it easy. He made sure that you understood what we were doing. He would ask three to four times a night, he understood the lab work that we were doing. Attendance is a must if you want a good grade. He doesn't care if you have the lab book or the e-book which is cheaper.

Great Professor!! I took his online and lab class. For the online part i never used the book his notes were more than enough. There is an outline for each chapter (which is word by word on the slide show he gives you) and you also have an assignment with 3 attempts. Test are unlimited attempts (#4).Lab is about memorizing. Fairbanks is one of the best professors I've had so far in my college experience. He is there for you whenever you need him. I would literally e-mail him sometimes around 1-2 a.m. with questions and I would have a detailed reply early the next morning! I took Fairbanks for 1401 and 1403 Geology. BEST instructor I have ever had while I attended TCC. For 1401 I took his online class with a face-to-face lab. He is extremely helpful and will make sure to do his best to help you pass his class as long as you participate and aren't lazy about getting your work done.

Professor Fairbanks explains tricky material in ways that helps students understand it easily. He is always willing to do anything to help the students. He puts up with major complaining from students even though his class is quite a lot of fun! Participation is important to him; both by showing up and getting involved in class discussion.

If you are looking for an easy class that you quizlet every answer or just search the PowerPoint, his class is not for you. An A is easily attainable, if you put forth effort. He is always available and will help you with anything that you do not understand. This is my last class to complete my degree & he's the best professor I've ever taken.

On top of being attractive, he really loves what he does. Gives practice exams that are just like real tests. Combines lecture and Lab so it is not boring. You do the work you should have no problem getting an A.

Mr Fairbanks was the best. I'm taking him again in the fall. Gives in class assignments which is also the at home assignment. 4 tests. Lots of memorizing. Especially the rocks but really tries his best to make it easy & it really is. Really hard to fail. Gives about 3000 points by the end of semester. Even encourages eating in class and laptops.

Best Professor I have had at TCC. I had him for my community learning class (GEO-ART) and it was my absolute favorite class. The material is very straight forward and he makes it simple to understand. Quizzes are online and you're given MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS! Pretty easy class, only way you could fail is if you don't put any effort. Totally recommend!

TAKE HIS CLASS. Josh is so great. I took his 8 week courses for Physical & Historical Geology (1403&1404) and it was the easiest most interesting class I've ever took here at TCC. He's really caring, helpful, and hilarious. There are at-home quizzes for each lesson, and all of the answers are given during lecture, the exams are super easy! Easy A!

This is the best teacher I've had throughout my years in college. Despite having him throughout the pandemic, he still gave great feedback, is willing to work with you to pass, is extremely caring, and gives many chances on assignments. I am an older student, ok, so I am an old student. I took this course online (which I hate), during Covid (awful), while working full time, and through Smowmageddon. You HAVE to have the Lab Book, but not the text book. Expectations were really clear and if you stay organized and do a little of the assignments each night, you will be golden!

You have to buy two books, two exams w EC, and weekly assignments. He always extends deadlines, but just stay diligent and don't wait for the last minute to complete your assignments, and you'll make the easiest A. His exams are all matching, and the lab assignments require a lot of drawing.

Super easy class and one of the best professors, only one assignment a week that has 10-15 multiple choice/open response questions that can be submitted up to 3 times that makes up the bulk of your grade and 2 exams that you can use a study guide for. As long as you do the work its an easy A. No textbook/lab book for 1405 course

It's a four credit class so it's heavy but easy work. Recommend getting the free two weeks MasteringGeology and getting those over with to save some money. He doesn't read/actually grade the labs so don't worry if you don't know if your answer is right, as long as you did it you'll be fine. Final is tedious but manageable. Take him, easy A just try

Honestly I did not have to interact even once with him the entire class and that was just fine. The class was set up so easy to pass and I actually really enjoyed learning. The tests were the hardest part but you could use a page of notes and as long as you studied you'd get a good grade.

Josh Fairbanks is a fantastic professor. He is truly willing to work with you no matter what your personal situation is outside of class. He REALLY wants all of his students to succeed. Lessons are completed together in class, there is rarely ever homework. All of the material is on Canvas for free. I can't recommend him enough!

If you really want to learn about the environment, this is the class to take. I have learned so much in his class that I can now relate to the outside world - rocks, tornadoes, oceans, caves, etc. and how they are formed. Josh Fairbanks is amazing. Thank you so much.

Mr. Fairbanks is second to none. Arguably the best instructor that TCC offers. He loves student involvement, so participate! He shows up everyday and gives 110% to his classes. The material is phenomenal and he presents it in a way that's very understandable. You won't regret taking his class, you'll wish you could take him again. Thank you Mr. F!

So amazing!!! He makes sure you have everything you need in order to pass the class. He would go over things with you a million times if that's what it took in order for you to understand something. he truly cares about each of his students and wants to see them all succeed in his class! No homework, only 2 tests (& can use study guide) easy & fun!

Out of all of my semesters at TCC, he was the best one out of all of my other professors. He made sure to communicate with us every single day. He is very funny and caring. He likes to make sure you complete all your work. The work is very easy, just pay attention to the lectures in class and you should not have any homework.

He is a hardworking educator who genuinely cares about his pupils. Don't be concerned if you struggle with science courses; I used to. You will pass the course if you attend class, complete notes, and submit assignments. He provides you with a second opportunity to pass the class. (B);

I could have taken a course closer to home, but I drove twice as far to take his class because of all of the positive ratings here. I'm telling you, I would drive five times as far to have him as my professor. He cares about everything that you care about! He is super positive and inviting. 5000000/5 !!!!

The goat

This teacher is the definition of chill. He assigns homework daily as a new lesson, but he tells us the answers as he teaches. He does make us work for it though which I admire. Most effortless A you can get. Do not fall behind though, because he does a lot of homework as I mentioned before. If you miss a day you will fall back easily.

Professor Fairbanks is hands down one of the best professors I've ever had at TCC. Trust me, he has a 5/5 for a reason! His class is fairly easy, my only tip is to show up and really study the reviews he provides for you! He's understanding and answers any of the questions you have regarding the assignments!

All of the work done was group work. He is very easy-going and understanding if you miss class. He brings donuts to class and often does whatever he can to make class more enjoyable and easier.

Professor Fairbanks was my lab professor, and he made my geology class a dream! I was apprehensive because Geology seemed like a class that would be easier in person, but Professor Fairbanks made the whole experience so much easier. He was very accessible and excellent!

Professor Fairbanks is amazing. He is understanding and quick to respond to emails. I took GEOL -1401 online and I am currently taking GEOL-1403 online. Assignments consist of discussion boards, lecture quizzes, and a few exams. You should not have a problem getting an A in this class as long as you put in some effort and complete the assignments.

Professor Fairbanks is awesome to work with. He's super easygoing, and all you need to pass is to do the work. No hassle, drama free class.

Very clear lessons, quiz questions are pulled directly from the material, and he typically responds to emails within two or so hours (in my experience). Workload is super manageable, he also extends the deadlines for work. As long as you try even just a little bit you will succeed in his class.

Professor Fairbanks is an amazing instructor who makes the material engaging. Assignments are straightforward, and as long as you stay on top of them, you should have no trouble getting a great grade. I found Unstuckstudy to be a helpful study tool alongside the free textbook.

Prof Fairbanks is incredible and makes learning geology easy and fun. Required reading in each module with lab/lecture quizzes and discussion boards throughout, all directly related to the textbook reading. Workload is extremely manageable, and he extended deadlines multiple times to help us with the course. Amazing professor & I would recommend!

Very digestible and accessible class.

Super chill and pushed a bunch of assignment dates back for whatever reason but it meant more time to do them so that was cool. The lab prof I had was Christina Munoz and the labs were pretty easy, I just looked in the textbook for most of it. There's a discussion board for each unit but I passed without doing most of them lol

Took Fall 24' Semester- Take this Professor, Josh Fairbanks is the best Science teacher I've took thus far at TCC. Assignments included ever week: 1 Discussion Board, 1 Quiz (3 tries), and 1 lab (3 tires). 3 exams with Lockdown browser NO camera, and 1 Final Lab exam over material in 1of the modules. Go for him he's the best!

Great professor! amamzing extra credit. He cares a lot about his students and WILL help you. The class was a bit challenging at times. 3 exams and theyre lockdown browser+webcam. Exams consist of questions from the quizzes. 12 open note quizzes. If you completed the lab you would get full credit. Lastly, 1 easy group project. No late policy

Josh Fairbanks is a very good professor. He gave good feedback on my papers and he answered any questions I had on the feedback k relatively quickly. Lastly, he graded fairly in my opinion. I would not mind him for another class.

This professor was the absolute best! Considering this was an online class he was available for help or to ask questions and he responded quickly. He is very understanding if life happens and willing to work with you if you get behind. He is very clear about how he grades.100% recommend this professor and the course material was fun to learn!!!

Prof Fairbanks is a great professor. He's pretty easy. Some of the work was a little challenging, but it wasn't all the time, and was very minor. Please, take him. You won't want to miss out on him!
