He can be sarcastic- lots of work to do. Is hard on you if he does not really like you. Loves confidence and LOVES for you to move around during speeches. Make sure you are loud and you will get an A.

Young, entertaining and energetic. Sitting through 10 or 12 speeches a day can get tiresome, but Miller helps make it worthwhile. Warning: takes no guff from slackers. Highly recommended.

He was Great, Funny, And had alot of great speech team storys. This man can teach you how to write a proper speech. But be warned if you are sensitive he can and does give honest and truthful critisism. My only regret is not joining his team when he asked, maybe 1 day.

He is very cool as long as you come to class prepared and you are not a flak then you should no promblume pass his class his test are very hard. So you really have to study alot.

Good teacher with lots to say about public speaking. I would not go as far as to say he was the best teacher but this is definitly a worthwhile class. For a norning class, Miller will certainly keep you awake with all his jokes!

Not that hard at all. Write your speech more than a night before, and practice it. No that much work. Cant say he is easy but definitely not hard if you try.

Mr. Miller was the best I have ever had. He really takes the time to get with you and trust me, you will learn a thing or two. He loves to debate current events, so you should really try to get into it with him. He has a great head for business, I have no idea why he didn't go into his families business, but I am glad that he became a teacher.

This class was interesting and fun. He really keeps the students involved. He loves to through out logic puzzels and IQ tests for extra credit. Yes, he is very handsome, but he knows it (which lessens the attraction) and comes off as a little cocky. Always be ready for a curve ball if you take his class. Good luck! Very clear course outline. Tests are easy if you go to class, pay attanion, and take notes. AWESOME instructor. Very energetic. This is the first class where I NEVER looked at the clock. He is VERY smart, "an ocean of information." TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!

This class changed my life. Not only helped me face the ultimate fear of public speaking but I now try to only buy oraginc food and skin care, recycled paper, beeswax candles. This guy roxxors my soxxors. I especially liked it when he would get that slit eyed look as he glared around the room--it just made me want to melt in my flip floops. Yes, he is a bit arrogant but it's what actually motivated me to memorize my speech, do well and get an A in his class. If it wasn't for his spicy attitude and hotness I could care less. I thought I was getting Sterk :-( but he took the summer off. Miller was cool and knows what hes doing. I love that the main thing we do is debate each other and this is a majority of our grade. I might even join the team now.

Its been a while since I've taken this class, and I don't remember him being THAT hot. Actually, it was great class that prepared me to give presentations at CSUN and at work. Hey, for all of you who want to take Josh's class. i highly reccomend it. he doesnt know this but, the only reason i took his class was beacuse alot of the comments i saw here about a year ago. And, i really didnt like community college so I wanted something different and I decided to take this "hot teachers" class.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST speech instructor you can have at LAVC. His assignments are not hard at all if you spend some time on your homework and do some research. He is EXTREMELY helpful if you have any questions, GO to his office hours and ask question!!!

If you need this class for UC txfr, this is the guy to go with. Smart and funny, he keeps the class engaged. Hard to pin down outside class, but if you can nab him and ask the right questions he will help you get the grade you want. Class is fun- consists of 2 debates, midterm, final, and research paper (14 pgs. long for honor students). Miller's a fair grader. Gives lots of extra credit opportunities. Lectures are interesting and tests are reasonable. Work hard and you will get your A.

I have already taken Eng. 103 and got an A, but this class really challenged me. Miller is very different, and it takes time to get use to his humor and style. Good professor. Knows his stuff! I would recommend him, but he is the chairman of the speech department and is busy with other things. He usually has meetings to go to and may have no time to grade papers or tests at all during the semester. He is very clear and helpful. Overall was a great experience and would take his class over any other!

You can't help but listen to this guy. His lectures are fun and informative. It's a speech class, be present and ON TIME!! You get what you put into the class. It's not hard but he expects you to work. Probably the funniest prof EVER!

Great Professor, always has funny stories to tell and makes fun of everyone and everything so if you are soft hearted don't take it personal. Be on time, follow his instructions regarding the debates, and study from his notes and the book and you should get an A.

His method of teaching is excellent. His lectures are all based on the textbook. Attendance is mandatory because the exams are also based on what you learn in class. He is very interesting with some stories but also he demonstrates that he loves his job...Amazing Professor.....Trust me! You will learn alot.....

Great teacher. Very generous with his time and VERY generous with extra credit. And not just busy work extra credit. Valuable extra credit that contributes to our lives. Have to not take him or his sense of humor personally.

He seems to be hard, because he is very strict about the time. He doesn't like when students come to class late, but actually he is very kind. He is very nice; although, he acts like he doesn't care and mean, but if you take a good look at him you will see that he is very kind and understanding. However, you need to put in some effort too.

He seems to have story about everything and he admittedly visits this website quite often :).

Professor Miller is one of the best professor's at LAVC. He makes his lectures very entertaining, I looked forward coming to class even though it was an 8am. He gave really great and honest feedback at the end of every debate. His class is structured very well! Just don't come late to class and do your work.

Excellent teacher and a really fun class. My only complaint was having to get up so early! Be sure to take Speech 101 first; you will need it. This is a class on debate, so you will need to team up for at least two debates, and BE PREPARED. Being on time is worth extra credit, and showing up late or during a debate will cost you.

I loved this class! Professor Miller is hilarious as well as inspirational. He incorporates lots of stories into his lectures. I was nervous to do the debates, but he really encourages everyone to do their best and creates a supportive environment. There are 2 debates and 2 tests. Take notes and show up on time. Take advantage of the extra credit.

Mr. Miller was amazing. I attended school after 10 years and I was extremely nervous. He wants you to pass. Lots of extra credit. He is very thorough explaining the materials. He shared lots of stories and examples to relate to the book, so you can understand easily. He is professional and funny.

Professor Miller is by far the best professor I've had. When he speaks you listen, because he is captivating. He provides excellent examples that help make his lectures more relatable and understandable than other communications professor I've had. He helped me solidify my major in comm. and I thank him for every encouraging word he spoke to me.

One of the greatest/funniest professors on campus! He's very clear with what he expects from his students. You have 2 debates with a partner but he shows you what he expects from you. After debates he follows up with your mistakes & tells you how to improve. He also gives aloooot of extra credit opportunities that give a major bump to your grade.

2 quizzes, 3 homework assignments, a final and two debates. He loves helping so ask for it if you don't get an assignment or need help with research for the debates. you get to chose what you debate on and you do it with a partner which definitely helps you out if you're someone who isn't the most confident person in front of the class.

I ACTUALLY LEARNED SOMETHING****My favorite prof at LAVC. Dude keeps it 100. He cares about each student, but isn't TOO hands on. He gives you room to succeed alone, but is also welcoming to get feedback from. He talks about his own life a lot, but the stories are actually pretty good.

He's an awesome professor. I really enjoyed taking his debate class. If you're going to take his debate class, you will have to participate in two debates; brace yourselves for that, but he's more than willing to help you.

Josh Miller is a hilarious professor who takes his job seriously. He is clear about the concepts he teaches. It is easy to get an A in his class if you do your work on time and perform your speeches well. He also gives a lot of cool extra credit opportunities. He teaches in a very outside the box way so his classes are definitely an experience!

Great class and professor. He makes lectures fun and gives good feedback on your debates. If you're wondering if you should take 105 or 104, you should just do 105. You have to write two papers in 105, but it's worth it. Especially if you're trying to get into a UC.

I took the Speech Class online Summer 2018 with Professor Miller. He has great videos, he is concise and clear with his grading requirements and very accommodating. He responds to any queries and gives constructive criticisms for students to develop on. I only have good adjectives for this Professor. Take him he is not a waste of time.

I took this class online for winter 2019. He is a very good professor! He gives you good feedback on your written speeches and on your topics. He does receive extra credit assignments which are very easy to do.

Highly recommended! There are a total of 3 speeches and he provides feedback on all of them before you actually give the speech so you can make the necessary corrections. He responds to emails quickly and gives the option of meeting you on campus so that you can say the speech in front of him if you can't get 5 audience members together.

He helps & advise you of his office hours & works with you in what you are trying to achieve for the assignment. Watch videos, write out speeches and small writing assignments. You upload videos & he will provide you feedback on what could have been improved or what you did great. Overall great professor in helping his students 2 succeed.

Took him during summer online , as much as it may seem overwhelming! He made it super easy . Easy discussions , 3 speeches , & 2 written speeches ! Hes very caring . He lets you redo anything that you didnt get a good grade on! Ill def recommend him !

He is caring, gives good feedback, is easy to understand, and provides all the information you need to do well. Allows re-do assignments for a better grade + EC. Accessible but does take a while to reply. However, it is due to COVID. Overall, I learned a lot and his class is very enjoyable. It will help you in your future career and in writing.

Professor Miller is amazing. He truly cares about students and wants to see you succeed. He provides great feedback and lots of encouragement. I took this class for the summer intersession at LAVC, which was completely online and cost free. I would say that Professor Miller is very generous in grading the public speeches and discussions, as long as you abide by the rubrics. He also doesn't deduct marks for submitting assignments a couple hours late & even allows to redo tasks. Recommended

This class is going to go by fast if you do the work. I took this class in the Winter semester, and Comm 101 crushed everything into one month. The grading criteria were clear, and the speeches were easy to do. A lot of feedback is given on what needs to be improved. Participation is a big thing in the class.

This class is amazing as long as you follow the rubric. Everything is laid out simply & clearly and available to you from day one. No extra credit; however, late assignments are accepted. Take this professor if you can, 10/10.

Fall 22' I took his class online. I first I thought it was going to be difficult because of the amount of the assignments. He accepts late work. His class consist of speeches and 3 speech videos you upload on Youtube (unlisted) As long as you follow is draft/ outline of his assignments, he will give you full credit. I love his class.

Took this professor for a 5 week online summer class and I would take him again. Accepts lates work, has a clear grading criteria, and will set you up for success because he wants to see his students pass. Very easy class to pass if you read the syllabus and follow the rubric and is not a tough grader. Take him!

Professor Miller is probably the most entertaining and fun professor I've ever had! He makes class so interesting and fun with all of his stories and even the classmates are super sweet! Took in winter for 5 weeks and there was no busy work. He spreads out the course very well and does not make it overwhelming. Answers emails pretty fast. Must take for public speaking.

By far my most easy-going online class in the sense that everything was perfectly spaced out and he gave really good feedback. My fear of public speaking went away. His lectures were engaging and he gave really good examples for speech format. deserves a Michelin star for professors, highly recommended.

Professor Miller's lectures were very entertaining, and he's great at explaining the information he wants you to take away from the lectures. If you follow the rubric, you will definitely do well in this class. The textbook is also engaging and doesn't feel tedious to read.

Professor Miller's COMM101 class is a gem. He's engaging, lenient with deadlines, and provides detailed feedback to help you improve. The coursework is manageable, and the flexibility of an online format makes it even more accessible. I found unstuckstudy ai a great supplemental tool for prepping speeches and staying on top of assignments.

I took him for Winter 2025, and it was an easy class. Discussion, simple assignments, 2 written speeches, and four speeches. Make sure to follow the outline for the last two speeches. He really does care about his students. He was sympathetic over people affected by the recent wildfires, so he decided to not take any late work this semester.

He is the most caring and BEST professor I've ever had. At first, I was afraid of taking any communication class, but I soon realized it wasn't as bad as I thought. He truly cares about his students and provides fair, constructive feedback. Even if you're not a native speaker, he ensures you succeed if you follow his instructions. 100% recommend!!

I took his Com 101 Summer of 2024, and he was amazing with his teaching style, being friendly to both beginner and expert public speaking. Taking the class for credits or not, you will be able to learn how to speak in front of the class confidently. His class wasn't hard at all. 100/10 would take again!
