Far too educated to be teaching an intermediate algebra class. Talk to him about the band TOOL-scores points.
HOT man. Tough Class. Not the best communicator, but i did not mind to have to keep asking for help.
guy acts like everyone knows math and is good at it he sucks.
Mr. Niemzyk is a great teacher!!! He knows what he is doing and it is easy to talk to him.
I found this class very difficult, after having very little trouble in beg. algebra. Does not collect homework or give credit for it...grade is relflected off of test scores alone. And i personally found his test pretty difficult. not a bad teacher, just hard to follow.
Mr. Niemczyk is a very understanding teacher. He will go out of his way to help in any way possible to see success in his students. This class was quite easy because his instruction was easy to follow
I would not recommend him for a math teacher, especially if you are not a math whiz. He is quite full of himself, and does not seem to care or understand that other people do not understand math like he does. He acts like you are stupid if you don't understand. Maybe if he explained how the math worked, instead of just showing us how to do problems
This guy shouldn't be teaching. I'm actually pretty good at math and my grade reflected otherwise. The homework is easy but his tests are filled with obscure problems that are not covered in class. He is arrogant and not even remotely interested in the success of his students. His class was the first I've ever had to drop.
He sucks, unless math is your life, like this guy. Don't take his class. He thinks he is a great teacher. But he doesnt care about weather you pass or not he gets paid eather way.
took Survey Calc with him.. All of his homework he checks everyday, not a big deal cause you have to do it anyway to pass calculus to begin with. Hes not that bad, he gives u some points sort of like a curve on tests. Got an 86 on his final so its not that bad
I have all A's except for this class, and it is almost impossible to do well! He only grades tests and quizzes, which are really hard, so all my effort in the homework doesn't pay off!
I agree that he is a tough teacher, but I think that he just wants you to take it upon your self to get extra help. I think he is very down to earth and is very willing to help during office hours. He is the first teacher I have had that I like. His grading on tests and such is very tough though.
Mr Niemczyk moves very quickly and doesn't waste time, which personally didn't work for me. He's arrogant and obsessive about math. The only time he offers to help, or answer questions is at his office house, so if you work and aren't flexible - forget about it. I dropped this class along with 50% of my class with a D or less. Take someone else!
He is clearly passionate about math and I understood just about everything he taught. However, his tests are near impossible. For example, you could get an answer right but still lose half of your points if he didnt like the way you worked it out.. Steer clear! I somehow still have a 3.1 after my first semester even after failing his class
Very difficult professor! If you are taking this I suggest that you have only one other class maximum besides this. Tests are incredibly difficult and learning is at an incredibly speedy process so get a good night sleep! He is the way he is and loves math but demands time and attention from students!
not very good
Super hard! I loved math and now I hate it! He loves math but doesn't stick to subject he tends to go above and beyond and then try to come back to a topic! hard to follow! very nice but very tough!
I took him in Beginning Algebra back in 2000 right when he started teaching. I took the class in the summer and it was tough but I made it with a C. He seemed nice but I never saw him outside of class. He was nice to look at though. He pitched for the River City Rascals and had a great backside. :o)
I don't recommend him. He made the class fill out personal schedules (school/work/sports)& then told us if we didn't have X amt of hours to work on hmwrk then we might as well drop the class. I was upset by this bc I didn't think my personal life was any of his business and I have a full time job. He belittled us if we didn't know the answers.
The bad thing with Josh. Is that you dont know something you should he gets irritatied.
nearly impossible to do well he tries to confuse you and usually will have to look at the answer key passed algebra fine and he made me change my major..
Just not a good teacher, his test questions don't even work out and he decides to tell us this after the fact. He still has the nerve to give "f"'s on the test, when he is the one who deserves the "f"! He makes you do all homework and grades one problem? He has a be reputation for a reason I guess!
worst teacher ever...told the correct way to answer after the test...asked for help and he asked to see my answer key...withdrew and changed my major..do not reccomend
His style is probably not for everyone, but I love that he has printed notes that we fill in as the class progresses. He's nice, friendly, and helpful when I ask him questions. He doesn't require attendance but he's more lenient to those that show up often. Oh, and he's way easy on the eyes.
Nice and helpful, but sometimes difficult to follow. He seems to think everyone goes into his class with as much knowledge of the subject as he has.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Doesn't matter how much you study and put into this class, you will do bad. The teacher has a way of making a A student feel like failure. He doesn't really care if you get the concepts and understand the math, he wants everything done to absolute perfection. Take math somewhere else and enjoy learning.
DO NOT TAKE!! I wish i would have listened when people told me to drop his class. It will not matter how much you study or if you go to the ace center three times a week you will not pass. i am very good at math but he sets you up to fail. If you have to take him, go to every class. use the ace center a lot! keep up with the homework, study 247
DO NOT TAKE HIM! he requires both a book and the online my math lab, homework is due the very next class period, does not allow calculators, will not accept work done in pen, takes points off for attendance, does not reply to emails, will not go over problems he just did on the board... drop asap if you have him or else he will just lower your GPA!
I took him for beg algebra and int algebra. Yes he is hard, but you will learn if you put effort into it. He is strict on his office hours and not seeing people outside of those which I didn't like because most people have other classes during that time. He does require alot of homework but I am not great in math and still got B's.
I do not recommend this class, he overworks all of the students. Not only that, he takes points off of the littlest things on the test. He never responds to emails and requires both textbook and MML homeworks. Passed this class with a C, which i've never gotten before until this class...
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, on the tests he grades so hard, if you dont show everything you do he will take off half of the points. I have A's in all of my classes besides this one.
I will tell like that, if you will work you will get good grades. if you don`t know why you in college probably you will fail this class. He is hard, but right, understanding.I worked hard and I get grade, which I want to get.
He is hard and sometimes sucks, but he is good. I like him. I LEARN MATH!!! If you dont know why you in college dont take with him, but if you know hat are you doing you will get along with him. I took fast track with him and it was so hard, but I never missed any homework any class and I got B. I was really happy about it.
I learned so much in this class. The print out notes were very helpful and he was always available during his office hours. The class was difficult, but if you work hard and study it will pay off.
Can't stand this guy. Talks too fast, entirely too much homework and not enough class work so when you get to the test you have no idea because the work you did was wrong the entire time. The class was so bad it gave me PANIC ATTACKS. It ruined school for me...
Not a good teacher. Made math even more confusing. TONS OF HOMEWORK. Very hard to get all the work done. Tests are extremely difficult and nothing like homework. I do not recommend this teacher.
DO NOT take this teacher. I beg all of you. I put 150% effort in to this class and still received a D. Tons of homework, and online homework, tests are super challenging and he grades hard. Most time consuming class ive ever had as well. Most stress I've ever had from a class. I'm an A studentt and this class was just awful.
I spent 5 hours every day doing math homework. He is a very hard grader, but I have to say he is fair. If you wanna learn math (if you need to go higher with math) I recommend to take him, because YOU WILL LEARN MATH. after his class I had to take MATH 160 & 175 and I got straight As in those classes because Mr. Niemczyk know how need to teach :)
Is always there to help. He actually loves when people visit during office hours and show an interest. You really should be there every day. He does random homework checks.
I would recommend this class to an enemy. He is the worst math teacher i've ever had. very arrogant and a hard grader. I studied hard for every test and my highest test score was a 72. He takes doesn't give partial credit. Assigns too much homework and doesn't offer help.
half of the class dropped. I wish I would have I failed despite my best efforts. he is very pompous and rude to the students. Tests are very hard. wouldn't recommend him.
I am good at math, and I worked extremely hard to fail. On multiple occasions, I got the answers correct on tests, but because I didn't show my work the way he "taught" it. When it comes to teaching, he just repeats himself in a louder tone. Told a student, that he wished he got paid overtime for teaching students who couldn't make it to class.
The teacher expects you to know as much as he does about this subject. i worked hard and basically was told that i wasn't doing a good enough job. i was a straight A student until i hit this class. He's arrogant and expects way too much from first time students from the first day to the last day. Horrible class with a bad teacher. DON'T TAKE IT
DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER. I BEG YOU ALL. I'm currently taking this class and i can tell you it will stress you out and make you hate math. His test are 10-20 questions so if you miss a couple you will be at a C. No reviews before test or before Final. He is rude and expects you to throw away all what you have learn for math and do everything his way
He is not a tough grader and does not take a lot of homework points, goes too fast in lectures. I do not recommend him for a teacher.
very tough grader, wants things done in his specific way which is fine but was often way different than how other teachers would teach things. I would advise dropping his class
He barely uses mymathlab and only grades one question on your homework.
I needed this one class as a prerequisite for fall, so a summer math class can't be that hard, right? WRONG. I had to withdraw from all my other classes, life, work, basically everything else because I spent my every waking minute doing the homework for this class. Almost didn't pass, too. The grading policy is irrational, and he shows no mercy.
I'm not particularly strong in math, but Josh was amazing. His notes are clear and he went at a good pace. Be prepared for homework and notes. So long as you do the work, you should be good.
You take classes to learn and that is what is expected, rightfully so. Sure, at times it was tough but you walk away actually knowing more instead of remembering whatever it is just for the test and then not retaining the information. I am paying to gain knowledge and I walked away with more then I could've ask for.
EVERY time I would try to ask him a question he'd say he'd come back to me but never would. Nor would he help after class, claiming he didn't have the time. Because of this I quickly fell behind. I went to talk to my guidance Counselor about dropping and she says, (no exaggeration) Your instructor? Him? YeahHes not a very good teacher. No lie.
Mr. Niemczyk is a professor that wants to see you try. It's one of the hardest/time-consuming classes I've ever taken, but also rewarding because I had to work HARD to get a good grade. I don't remember material from classes where I got an easy A, but this class-I learned a lot. He does care about his students. Make sure you read the textbook.
terrible teacher. not good at explaining, makes you feel stupid and grades tests inconsistently (will take off unnecessary points here and there) sets you up for failure.
He Went really fast for me i wish he would've slowed down a bit. when he thought things he acted like we should already know what they were and if you have to ask him a question he kinda made me feel stupid when he answered it like I should already know it. He didn't really feel approachable to ask questions to.
I took Calc 1 with Josh, and it was one of the hardest classes ive ever taken. Niemzcik is an extremely hard grader, and he assigns a lot of homework. But he encourages his students a lot to come to office hours and ask questions. I learned the most i ever have about math in his class. Definitely a solid teacher if you are willing to work hard
Niemczyk provides very little resources for the online class, and those that he does provide are often not presented in a way that compliment the book and the book assignments. His custom project/worksheet assignments seem to be the only thing he wrote himself, and they are confusing and often have things that are never mentioned in the book.
I decided to take statistics online at SCC as none of the other courses at UMSL fit my schedule, what I did not expect was how difficult it would be. I have not ever failed a class (until now) and I am almost done with my Bachelors. I spent about 22+ hours a week on this class alone which was exhausting. I had 80% in the class but failed the final.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF. I REPEAT, DO NOT. Hes extrordinarily picky about everything. If it doesnt follow the page long checklist EXACTLY, you get no credit at all. He doesnt like to personally help hell just immediately send you to the ace center. Doesnt do a good job expressing the topics either, very confusing. Just dont do it...
Very hard grader
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He is not helpful and doesn't seem like he really cares about his job, I missed one day and was SOOO behind. Even if you see him at his office hours, you're going to fail. I went to the tutoring center and tried my freaking butt off. Him for college algebra? RUN AWAY NOW
Grades very differently, not in a good way.
Worst prof i've ever had. Awful person too.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!! All throughout highschool, i did GREAT in math. My first semester as a college student I took his college algebra class and it was the worst decision of my life. I ended up failing !!!!!! He offers help outside of class, but the way he teaches is not the way to go. It's very confusing and doesn't make any sense.
Professor Niemczyk is a staggeringly arrogant professor. On the first test of the year, nearly the entire class failed, but rather than consider the possibility of that being a reflection on his teaching, he took no responsibility and suggested that low scorers drop the class. He seemed to enjoy being condescending. Put very simply: do not take.
Listen here. This is the worst class Ive ever taken. This guy just wants you to fail. He gives out hw quizzes with about 30-40 MANDATORY questions yet he only randomly grades ONE of them! If he picks one you did poorly then I guess you get 15% on that quiz. Its lazy. Also if you fail the final you fail the class. Just dont bother. Find anyone else
I took this course during the pandemic , worked 2 jobs still (50+ hrs). You would expect the professors to be a bit more compassionate. I had internet issues at times making my assignments late by one minute or canvas would not accept my uploads. I would inform the professor about the issue, he did not care and would redirect to grading policy.
Boring, boring, boring lectures. So much work for no reason, assigned daily except on weekends. He's has very tough guidelines and very unforgiving. If you have to take this class, I'd look elsewhere for a professor.
Horrible. Holds absurd standards. Does not put even a fraction of the effort he expects from you as a student into being a present and engaged professor. If your class is online, be sure you don't accidentally submit scanned worksheets with the pages in the wrong order, as he will refuse to grade your work and give you a zero. Completely irrational
Quite literally the WORST professor I have ever had. He does not respond to emails or even seem interested in what he is teaching. No wonder he is only an associate professor. Look at all of these other 1 star ratings and take our advice do not take this class. I had a 97% up until the final which is 35% of our grade. He will not have a job long.
Not at all caring or even considerate on a basic human level. Took an asynchronous online course, prof did almost no work himself (1 small homework assignment/week and prerecorded lectures), and yet was difficult to get ahold of and unpleasant to interact with on the few instances in which I had to. Indignant and disrespectful.
Quite possibly the most difficult math class i have ever taken. And the professor by no means even made an attempt to help out his struggling students. The class average at midterms was a 35% and its safe to say that most of the class did not pass in the end. He is very in his own ways and unpleasant to speak to. If you get him. Withdraw FAST.
I can't recommend taking this course to anyone, I hate it when my fellow students complain about a teacher or say its all their fault for their bad grade but, now I see. This is the WORST teacher I have had in any math class I have taken. The final is worth ridiculous credit and homework is worth 3 points. If you struggle on exams JUST DONT TAKE IT
The homework assigned is worth three points, but it should be worth more. If you do take this class, then be prepared to work for it. I struggled with this class a lot despite having a good grade. I recommend seeing the math tutor with the course. Do not be afraid to reach out to the tutor!
At one point during class, he made an offhand remark about the bad reviews he gets, so, figuring that he's at least vaguely aware of his awful reputation on this site, I would add to the torrent of unfavorable posts to add my own feedback, even though there's already more than enough bad reviews to prove that he's an abysmal professor and person.
Mr. Niemczyk's last name is of Polish and Jewish origin. I spoke with a teacher who taught him years ago when he was going through college, they said he failed their (calc 1) class 3 times (never passed). His offered classes don't go beyond high-school curriculum proves his inability to comprehend complex and intricate math formulas & concepts.
If you want to be a mathemetician, choose Niemczyk. Fr he knows a ton but if ur taking basic Stats like me and dont care for math skip this guy. I really enjoyed how the class was structured and his lectures were nicely done very very hard class tho and he gives 5 tests. none are dropped and they count for 25% of final grade notbad teacher but hard
Mr. Niemzyck is very knowledgeable over the subject and gives you plenty of opportunities to ask questions and truly understand what you're learning. He's old fashioned when it comes to homework and will assign a lot of questions but his exams are pretty straightforward and there's not a lot of tricky questions. Just a lot of repetition.
He's NOT "old fashioned" with homework. He gave a huge amount of problems and only corrected one each time. His tests were very hard. He didn't teach, he only assigned work, lots and lots of homework. He wasn't helpful and you had to teach yourself or go to tutoring. I did well only because I got lots of help, but none from him. Don't take him.
I would avoid taking him, he doesn't teach well. When I asked him for help, he was rude about it. I was left confused and having to seek outside help all semester. If you have to take him, expect to spend a lot of time at the tutoring center.
One of the worst professors I have ever had. Doesn't fully explain projects which leads to constant emails when I just want to finish the work. Worksheets are graded very heavy and leave little to no room for error. This was an introductory Statistics class but I felt that almost every topic was for professional understanding. Don't take this one.
awful
He's a very tough professor, it was harder than every class I've ever taken combined. However, he had very straightforward grading procedures, and always available for office hours and outside of class for questions. He was never condescending or made me feel dumb, but really, I feel like the class was unnecessarily hard for an intro.
In the 2nd week of the summer semester (equals to the 4th week of a regular semester), I regret not looking into before enrolling in this overwhelm course. The workload feels like 3 classes combined, I spent at least four hours of daily study. Constantly feel stressed, confused, and miserable, particularly after a grueling and lengthy first exam.
took as a summer online course. absolutely horrible. he was no help whatsoever. his lecture videos do not help any as he pulls information out of nowhere without explaining where/how he got it. absolutely do not take this class with him, the mental and emotional damage was done. he's worthless.
Very condescending. Not an effective teacher at all.
This is the worst math professor I've had since first starting college originally and coming back as an alumni to further my education. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS. He will leave you guessing on every single homework assignment and give you problems on homework that were not covered in class and aren't covered in the textbook. DO. NOT. TAKE. HIS. CLASS.
Awful…just don't take it
my courseeval was 1300 words ab how much i dislike him. i was hospitalized and he did not give me an extension and my grade tanked. his video notes for absenses dont match the notes u have from class. no feedback on hw. u cant makeup tests u have to take them beforehand. asked him for help w hw so many times during office hours and he just said no.
Absolutely awful, do not enroll, and if you are enrolled, drop before it's too late. Went to him for help twice, used nearly every single resource provided, was still so lost. Turned in 3 tests with tear stains. Homework was beyond excessive. All coursework was harshly graded. Took the same class with a different professor and passed with a 96.
Does things just to make it difficult on you, does things very weird ways which aren't helpful. Overall weird professor and just basically wants weird things done his way which just make it more difficult for the student.
He always gave us the hardest problems on our tests and they never matched what was in our homework. I tried to get all the help I could get, but nothing worked. It was so bad, I had to drop the class to save myself. Don't ever take his class!!! If you are in there... GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!!!!!
