Sooooo funny!
Although he speaks clearly, he speaks too fast for one to grasp many concepts. His projects and assignments are easy and clear. However, his multiple choice exams are extremely hard and tricky.
Annoying!!!!!!!!!
He is a very enthusiastic professor. Many attempts jokes, some are interesting. Just do his easy homeworks and you should be fine. He goes over what's going to be on the test. So unless you don't pay attention, u shouldn't do less than a B+.
Projects are very easy, tests are pretty hard, goes fast but covers a lot. his reviews are very good...covers everything that u'll be tested on, but his exam questions are trick
The guy knows the stuff,no doubt about that, but it would be nice if he actually taught the stuff to us instend of just cramming a chapter each class. One thing, however,he is a little freaky such as he claps and gets all happy thinking of failing students.
This guy truly does like failing students! His test is full of trick questions and he covers a chapter a day. He talks really fast and even if you think you understand it, he'll get you on the test anyway. The frustration isn't worth it!
Well, boring, sort of annoying and not a nice grader, except on the projects. I wouldn't really recommend him.
He's pretty smart in the field of CIS. He speaks very clearly but extremely fast. There’s also a bit of wit added to each lecture. For a guy who likes to munch on a lot of Kosher Food he seems very organized. Take him if you’re a die-hard computer geek.
He is pretty easy, really knows his field. Talks very fast - take notes. Easy projects, tests are ok. Ok grader.
He is a very kool teacher. He is very energectic and tries to be funny. He does teach pretty fast but if u raise your hand and ask him to go over it, he will! Exams r easy cuz he tells you wat to study for, but give urself time to study
Do not believe those that say that he is a difficult prof, at least not for 2200, they are just a bunch of nuts. 2 standard tests and 4 eeeeasy projects. Thats all
If you think this guy's tests are hard you'll never graduate.Only a couple of trick questions per test, which are 105 points. I never paid attention in class, just studied what he said will be on the test.Got an A.Projects were a little annoying, though.
The guys talks like he is charged on Duracell, his projects were easy, presentation matters, tests were all from the textbook and very little from the notes, very strict grader...
greatest prof you will ever meet! i loved this class. easy projects and funny classes. tests are not that tricky if you STUDY. he talks very fast but very clear. you will never fall asleep in his class!
This professor talks very fast. He is fair with his grades. His exams are not the easiest in the world, but if you study you shouldn't have a problem.
Talks like he's on something......very fast. Exams come right out of the textbook and he tells you whats on it. Take him!
Very good professor. Fast talker but will clarify difficult concepts. Easy projects and easy tests; couple of trick questions but that is besides the point. Take this professor if you want an A
Too much coffee in his systm Classwork and exams are easy though
very nice professor. gives a good review before the exam, goes step by step over the projects, and his lectures aren't boring.
Very Good Professor, definately reccomend to take him. Very EZ TESTS, and very ez group projects!
i took him in the summer. He is a knowledgeable guy. He's energetic too. He gives 3 projects and, I think, 3 exams. You're okay as long as you attend his classes
GPA - Great Professor Appel. Take him.
Way too energetic. Helpful and nice guy. Exams are exactly what he discusses in class.
This kid knows his stuff! 3 projects and three exams. He gives a detailed review and the exact things come on the exams. I got an easy A, just follow his exact instructions and so will you. He is way too energetic and happy for my use though and he laughs at his own corny jokes. But Definately take him.
He is definitely the best professor at Baruch. He is very clear on the material and he manages to keep the class very interesting. He's very funny at times but can also be corny but that's not a big deal. He gives simple projects that are easy A's and his exams are extremely easy. He is definitely worth taking.
Great professor, highly energetic, "spunky". Tells you exactly what you what you need to know for the exams and the final. He shows step-by-step the procedures for the projects. Easy A.
He talks so fast in class and all you do in class is taking notes. Overall a nice and easy A class, take him!
He takes an entertaining and lively approach to teach his class; reviews before every exam, and exams are based on what he reviews. Study the terms/vocabularies; simple 40 -45 multiple choice exam. If you show up to class and highlight terms, you will do fine for studying. Overall, easy A. You will learn.
If you want the easiest A in your life take him. He's an interesting guy too...tried to work with the fact that every1 was a zombie during his 8Am class
That`s it- Great Professor Appel- intelligent, fair and fun
Lively, energetic, funny. Knowledgable, so you can learn a bunch. Reviews the material before each test with an emphasis on main points. If you read the book and attend the classes, "A" is guaranteed.
Great Prof, fair and clear. Gives you everything for an easy A. mostly a memorization class of definitions, which he will tell you which to study before each test. Interesting lectures, hyper, no way u sleep in that class. Take Him! one of the best
As stated before, very hyper. Funny man and knowledgeable. Reviews what you need before tests. 3 tests 20% each not accumulative. 3 group projects 30% total and 10% attendance. No curves. MCQ 42 questions total so max grade 105. Talks about technology outside of subject at times if you're interested.
He is a fun teacher to have for CIS even though the class was in the afternoon he made it fun. His exams are easy, he tells you precisely what to study beforehand, and the projects are easy as well(he guides you through them), good class for an easy A
Professor Appel teaches a really interesting class. He doesn't limit himself to the textbook but teaches current newsworthy material. He is available for questions or advice for computers at any time, and he knows a lot about computers. Easy tests, interesting lecture, great learning experience.
WE CALLED HIM THE 3G. GET IT, GOT IT GOOD. HE GAVE ME AN A-. JUST TAKE HIM AND A GURRANTEED B, OR A
Great Professor! Gives a great reviews before the test. Keeps the class interested, tells a lot jokes! Fair grader. Make sure you read the chapters and do each of the projects, both are very easy.
Do Not Take This Prof. if you want to bring down your GPA.

This guy makes this course completely easy! Honestly, no hard work required. Just come to class, sleep, COME the day of the review and study everything he tells you to and you'll nail the exam. And all projects are explained in class (like he gives you the answers) Guarenteed A!
This prof. is the most intelegent, witty and articulate man I've ever encountered.
He is a very good professor. The class and material are boring as sin but he makes it as pain-free as possible. He's very lively and animated. His tests are reasonable and fair, and he provides lots of useful information for your everyday life. His jokes are really bad but that's part of his personality! Warning: YOUR PROJECTS MUST BE PERFECT
Very good professor! Makes class and material interesting and enjoyable! A really cool guy!
Easy professor and even easier A. 3 group projects, 2 midterms and one final. Exams are easy being that he tells you the EXACT pages and definitions to study. EASY A!
SO FREAKING EASY!!!. 3 Projects, two mid-terms & 1 Final. Of course, I got an A. I didn't even bust my ass. He'll tell you exactly what's on the test and he gives you second chances too!!. HIGH RECOMMENDABLE!!! ps: this isn't one of the those 'easy' class and you learn nothing. It's actually EASY AND YOU LEARN SOMETHING ALONE THE WAY!!. HEHEHE!!!!!
Great teacher 3 projects, 2 midterms and a final but tests he tells u exactly wat the study. Projects are done right in front of u so pay attention and make sure its perfect easy A Makes himself very available outside of the class definitely take him highly recommended
Great Professor!! Not only that his lectures were always interesting, but he also explained every step of the projects. He gave us thourough overview befor each exam, pointing out exactly what to read. 2 midterms, 1 final, 3 team computer projects. He is good looking too.
Great prof. This guy tries his best to make the class interesting. He will tell you what to study. I studied a couple hours on the day of the test. I do Not recommended to do this, but it does show that it is not hard to get an A in his tests. 42 Multiple choice questions 2.5 points each. 3 projects 105 is possible for everything. Take him. easy A.
Highly recommended. Fair grader. Easy A. You will also learn something in his class.
great prof. esy exams, tells u exactly what to study for. mainly definitions, but straight forwards.
Good teacher. The class is interesting and the exams are extremely easy. Study what he tells you and you will get an A. Just remember to turn off all your electronic devices and DO NOT bring cups containing liquid into the class cause he gets upset. I highly recommend this class.
Get it, Got it, Good. This dude is the man! If you get less than an A- in his class you dont belong in school.
Took in the summer at 8am...Great Professor...3 easy projects where he basically gives you the answers and shows you exactly what to do for them...and 3 easy test...if you want easy A take him...don't need the text book...the notes he gives are word for word from the textbook..easy A...
Easy, straightforward, and organized. Lectures are almost word-by-word from the book, and he even tells you every single paragraph that will be on the exams. Group projects are easy, and he's extremely generous with extra credit. If you want an A, it' almost impossible not to get one if you do the work.
I am taking this course now, and I want to tell you guys he is totally different to the people rate here. i looked at rating about him here before I took him,but I can tell you it's not easy at all!Maybe it's easy during the summer or winter section, but not in the regular section! many students dropped the class after a few weeks!think about that!
bad professor, learn nothing from this class!! i regretd i took this person to be my cis's teacher!! really gave me a hard time!!!finally,,,,i don't need to see him anymore!!most students don't like him, he kills our GPA!!!bad!!!!bad person!!!!
bad professor! His tests don't relate to the class. the example on the lecture slides are easy and clear, but he just teaches you in the wrong way, people always confuse in his class. in the test, its the exact opposite from the slide. long and confusing questions that you have never seen before.
He is a very straigh foward guy. He tells u exactly wats on the midterm and final and abt three group projects in between. there is a lot of material covered but it is CIS everything seems longer when it a topic u care or know little abt. Just read the text a good 2-3 times and u be guarenteed a "A"
I have no problem with the professor's teaching style but group projects is really a bad idea. Carefully pick the folks for your group. Poor communication and personality friction can really mess them up.
The ppl that gave him bad ratings probably mistakened him as the other Appel. This Appel does not gives slides! He tells you exactly what u need to study from the textbook. 3 fair group projects, a midterm and a fianl. If you're willing to study and do your part as a student an A is possible. Highly recommended!
bad professor!!!dont wantna talk to him anymore! nothing much to said about him, but be careful if you take his class. he is not as well as the ppl rated before..
bad professor i ever had!!!i don't understand why people gave him the good rating..he is bad, he just pretending to be nice sometimes. he seem to give you a good grade, but ends up with a bad grade...
1 midterm and 1 final,3group projects in the whole semester. it looks not much things to do, but he really gives you a hard time. questions in the exams are hard, and the projects are long. you must have good communication. you may really mess them up easily. dont take him if you are not a native speaker, unless you don't care about your GPA!
if you want to get a lower grade and kill your GPA, take him..
i did good in the class, and i read all the chapters and take a good notes, and i got above the average points, but i did not do well on the projects, at the end, i got a c!!!so sad..i read all the rateing before i took him, but he is not as good as what the people said before. he is not a fair grader.
very interesting professor. funny and knows his stuff. he goes over the textbook and tells you straight out wat to study for. 3 projects. excel, access, and powerpoint.
He is a great professor. Previous critique of him are obviously from students who did not do well but deserve they should get an easy grade because they think its an easy course. He is very helpful, grades fair. He is an excellent professor.
You will be fine if you simply follow his directions.
"He yells at us, where did you find this guy?" lol this is what I wrote in his evaluation sheet, because while handing the sheets out he accused us of writing such statements. Those were his words btw, lol he is a very funny guy. One of the best of Baruch.
Summer '07 Really Really Cool Professor. Highly recommended. 3 projects, midterm and final.
Spring 08. GREAT PROF. class was easy.. interesting most of the time. midterm and final all Multiple choice. HE TELLS U EXACTLY WHICH PARAGRAPHS FROM EACH CHAPTER U NEED FOR THE TEST! just read it abt 3 times and the tests r a breeze! 3 projects. get good team members becuz its alot on ur grade. proj require some work but take him. u wont regret it
There's no way to fail this class because he tells you exactly what to study and where in the book to find it. 3 group projects on Excel, Access, and Powerpoint. He tells you exactly what to do on those too. Guaranteed ATLEAST a B+ in this class. Can't get lower than that unless you don't read at all. He likes talking to an imagninary student.
He is extremely funny, i dont think anyone would fall asleep in his class. He give us 3 group projects, he explains everything, and i mean EVERYTHING. There is 1 midterm and 1 final, multiple choice which he goes through all the chaps and tell you whats on it..extremely easy. our class average for the midterm was like a 90. definitely recommanded
GREAT professor- I highly recommend him. He explains all directions and possible test questions prior to the exams. He is extremely animated, and therefore prolongs your interest in both the class and the subject. The group projects were unnecessary, but overall the class was enjoyable.
For a Sunday class, this class was pretty good. Professor Appel is soo animated, loud and funny. Although not my favorite topics to listen to on a Sunday, it wasn't so bad with Prof. Appel's humor. He tells you what paragraphs you need for the midterm and final and gives extra credit papers (worth 10 extra pts for midterm and 20 pts. for final). B+
He is one of the few very good professors. He gives extra points if you impress him with your projects, and they come very handy if you don't do well on one of the exams. Take him.
very fun professor! jokes can be corny but its the randomness and little kiddy style of jokes that makes it fun. seems very easy going guy. but he is strict on the microsoft projects. 1 little mistake you can lose points but he goes over them in class in detail so dont sleep for them. He also tells you EXACTLY what to study on the exam
You can't go wrong with this guy and there are times when he sounds like a cartoon character. Don't forget about the invisible student.
Overall hard core Professor who gets the points across clearly and effectively. He goes so far as to lecture about the technological advantages as well as abysses that a student can fall into if one is not meticulous.
Took him in the summer,3 easy projects-DETAILED ORIENTED-any small mistakes and he'll take off points, midterm final each about 50 questions but goes over EXACTLY what will be on both-90% definitions-only reason i got an A- is because i checked my phone like 3 times and spoke to the person next to me like twice, took off points from A/P-Recommended
Talks 100 words a minute. Funny and smart. Two 10 page reports with a partner. Two midterms and a final; 50 multiple choice questions. EXTREMELY HARD EXAMS. But, he will tell you exactly what page and paragraph to study from in the book. Again, its not easy, but I got an A, so it is attainable. Take him.
He is the best prof at baruch College. 7 Group assignment which he goes over in the class first step by step and then gives you to do it. On review day he tells which paragraph to study from which page. Question will be taken from only there. So if you read what he tells. You will get 100 on tests and A in the class.
Pretty helpful and dedicated professor. He does tell you what to study to prepare for the exams. However, the tests are not as straightforward as one would like. Definitely has more than one way to surprise you, probably cuz he knows the stuff inside out. I'd recommend taking him, but study thoroughly.
He tries to make the class interesting but it's still boring. He gives Multiple choice test about 50 or so and a class before the test he tells you what sections the test questions are coming from. I never looked at the book except 2 days before the test and got 90s. He give about 3 group pages of ten pages but over all not a hard grader.
He's very passionate about this class. He talks really fast tho. Let him reiterate it if you don't understand because he'd be willing to do it for yo. Exams are pretty easy. I thought the final was easier than midterm. gives extra credit for exams and HWs. He's just the best for this course. please take him. you wont regret it! Thank You professor!
No textbooks. He seems very passionate about this subject. Will talk continuously for the entire lecture. Hard grader for the 1st paper but then eases into the writing style. Easy MC exams. Easy A for summer.
Easy class, he tells you what pages to read from book for his exams. he's always very passionate about technology which adds some spice to the class.
The class is boring, but exams and group assignments are easy........I think that 80 percent students will get A or A- in this short summer session class ....
his exam is well i really don't know it is tricky or not. but, as long as you study, you will be o.k. i just couldn't answer his tricky multiple choice questions. but i got a decent grade so won't complain much
Tests are very tricky, very specific. Class test averages around 75. Homeworks, he takes off points for the slightest mistakes. Easy to make mistakes on the homework's so be careful. He is very detailed about everything. He takes attendance, MANDATORY! No extra credit anymore. Not an easy class as most say. Take someone else.
Walked into this class expecting to be in a computer lab. We sat in a normal classroom and had to learn by paying attention. Without the book, you're done. Attendance mandatory, (lateness .33 off, absence 1 pt off). No extra credit, very little curve. Don't take this for "EASY A"
Strict with attendance & lateness. Group assignments are easy if you have a good group. Otherwise they get tricky. Must read book for exams. First exam had 50 questions, second exam had 60 questions. Final had 80 questions. Good luck..
Although he is strict with eating, cell phone use, and punctuality, he is an extremely awesome professor. He walks you through EXACTLY what you need to do for his projects, and for his tests. He also has a great sense humor, and often raises his voice to make a point lol
First day of class he was scary, but I stuck it through and he turned out to be a really great professor. 3 group papers (each person writes about 2 pages) so make sure you get good partners, 2 midterms, and a final. All the questions from the exams come from the textbook and articles so reading is a must!
This Prof. is very smart. Lectures sometimes are a little confusing and long but if you read the book you will be fine. Test are easy if you study from the book. 3 papers (as a group), 3 tests (including final).
He's very passionate about what he teaches. The class isn't very interesting and he knows it isn't but he still makes the attempt to make it bearable. He's very knowledgeable, approachable and all around nice guy. Pity, that many people in my class didn't see it that way...
I took this class over the summer (which I recommend doing) and I thoroughly enjoyed the class. I took him for 3270 also but didn't really like the class because of the dense material. This class was a breath of fresh air compared to 3270 and he was really engaging with the material. I had a lot of fun. Oh yeah, there's no textbook for the class.
3 tests and 3 essays. You really need to study for his tests. Essays are group project, make sure you pick smart group members or they will drag you down. He doesnt stop talking and attendance is mandatory.
THE WORST PROFESSOR IN THE WORLD. HE IS BORING AND LIKE EVERY PROFESSOR THEY'RE SUBJECT TO READING OFF THESE STUPID POWERPOINTS !! HOW CAN ANYONE LEARN FROM "POWERPOINTS" . THE WAY HE SPEAKS IS ANNOYING, IRRITATING, AND WILL PUT YOU TO SLEEP. PLEASE STUDENTS STOP WRITING COMMENTS ABOUT THIS PROFESSOR THAT AREN'T TRUE. AVOID HIM AT ALL COST !!!
The worst professor ever. Attendance is mandatory. If half of student didn't show up, he will be extremely angry. The way he speaks is so boring, and it makes you feel sleepy. Basically half of class sleeping during class.
Dont take him, his tests are extremely hard and he grades paper word by word! Its not ENG class.....
avoid him, i regretted so many times for taking him.
seriously dont kill yourself, take someone else. This is not a easy class. 3 tests that are unbelievably hard, 3 group paper-he will grade them like you are PhD candidate. stay away!
One of the best professors I ever had. He displays great effort into the class. Even in bad health, he displays great effort to teach, very admirable. The material is fairly easy to grasp, and he knows that. If you pay attention to his reviews, then you will find the tests easy. Group work is tough, but rewarding. Very smart!. DONT BE LATE!!!!
If if have another option, don't take him unless you want to be challenged!
Everyone did pretty bad in this class, because his lecture is dense with so many materials and its had to remember all of it. 2 midterms are 60 multiple choice each and final 80 multiple choice.(good luck with that). Also 3 group papers 6 pages each one. He grades them harshly.
His lectures are okay but his way of teaching is something that doesn't make sense to me. Firstly, you are not allowed to have coffee in the class and students feel sleepy but he doesn't seem to care. First and Second Exam are super easy and final is unexpectedly too hard. He is extremely strict with attendance too. Good luck on taking him.
I took this professor for CIS 3270 and CIS 4910. His class is pretty straight forward. READ THE SLIDES AND READ THE BOOK, and you'll do well. Very enthusiastic/passionate when he speaks & encourages class participation. Midterms are pretty fair and the final is long, slightly harder. Those who didn't do well prolly didn't ready. Simple as that.
Its only my 3rd week of class and i regret taking this class already, I should of checked this website earlier. Don't take this class he doesn't even let you drink anything in class.
His class is a disaster. He uses a outdated book which makes no sense and his exams are tough. U would also group 3 group papers which he grades harshly. I would not recommend him.
GOOD LUCK TAKING HIM FOR THIS CLASS.
Very theatrical orator. High-energy from the moment the class begins to the last second, so if you prefer a laid-back teacher, look elsewhere. Covers everything that you need to know for the exams and papers. If you're looking to actually learn, take him. One negative is he makes it feel like a HS class with all the rules- no phone, etc
I would recommend you stay away from him unless you really need the class for that semester. His test were so difficult even other professors he asked told him so themselves. He ended up giving a curve for both the midterm and final but it was only a point! so it made no difference. If it wasn't for the group project I would of probably failed.
His tests were extremely hard. Best way to describe is that he gives a huge amount to cover and his tests only picks a specific few and makes it extremely tricky with multiple choice like A, B, A and B, all of the above, none at all. He has tunnel vision in CIS and seems more prioritized on teaching than students learning. Is not lenient/tolerable
This guys voice is obnoxious. He rants and rambles about things that make no sense. DO NOT TAKE HIM. He takes this class way more serious than it needs to be. If you are late or miss class you might as well say goodbye to that grade.
Professor Appel was not as brutal as many of the previous reviews painted him to be. He practically spoon-feeds you the information needed for exam in his review sessions. If you study and take your time on the papers you should do fine. Its an interesting class that requires a fair amount of time. Nothing out of this world in terms of difficulty.
This professor is ridiculous, I take him in the summer, he copy his slides straight from the textbook and read everything in the slide. Don't take him if you want a better grade. His class is dam boring and test heavy!!!
DO NOT take him, his teaching style is terrible. He uses all the time to talk about some irrelevant things, and then he realized he doesnt have enough time to finish his slides. So he uses his fastest speed to scan over his ppt! and you got nothing from hIS LECTURE. you will have to read every single word from textbook to pass his class . TEST 80q!
This professor rushing his teaching materials and is all over the place. Don't take him if you have other options .
what should i say? be prepare to learn by yourself. His PPT is all directly copied from textbook, so it is useless to go to his class. To pass the class, you have to self study and filter out or guess the important or key points.
I'm in summer session, there are 80 questions on midterm, and 100 questions on final. the tests are not hard, but you have to remember a lot of terminology and understand the concepts of each terms to answer the questions.
I don't know why there's that much bad comments about professor Apple, I think he is a pretty enthusiastic and nice guy. He takes care of me a lot, and often gives me quadrillion of points. The exams are easy if you pay attention in his lecture. Easy A class (Free A)
N/A about this professor
He is a great professor, you will earned a higher grade than you expected! Professor Appel is a nice guy!
Honest Review: He is a nice professor and he tends to talk a lot sometimes because he is very enthusiastic about the course. He is a very serious about attendance so try not to skip class also, keep track of the online hw's and quizzes because he is very big on that. He provides study guidelines so read the book for mid and final exam. Good luck :)
Honestly I took this class because it fit my schedule and based on what I saw here I was shook. I get to class and hes nothing like what these reviews say. He curves and literally its a common sense course. You must want to sail through college and take bs classes where you dont learn anything if you find him hard.
I took his summer class before, he was enthusiastic and nice. He prepared every detail that you should know and explained it very well. there are two exams. you just have to prepare for self-study to memorize his PPT. he also gives curves!!
Come in, be on time and show up always. Get ready for an hour of getting yelled at and watching YouTube videos.
Worst public speaker and educator I have ever encountered! Hes pretty much out to get you and goes off track every class. I asked everyone in class and not a single classmate supported him and theres normally one. He reads of websites a lot. Dont pay attention in class everything he talks about majority is unrelated to his exams. Avoid him!
He for sure doesn't like the chinese government. Theres no textbook which was nice but you have to watch lots of videos and read lots of articles to prep for his exams. I suggest if you have to take him study early. He doesn't give alot of work but make sure you just answer his questions directly he's looking to withdraw points. His curve is 1point
He means well but good God, the man speaks for 2.5hrs str8t with minimal pauses. You watch him walk back and fourth as he blabs and it gets annoying and old REALLY quick. This class has potential to be really good but he keeps it from being just that. 2 grp papers, 80qst midterm, 80qst final. All multiple choice. Get ready to watch 60+ videos smh
Easy going class, show up, take notes, watch the videos and read the articles, show some effort in the written and video assignments and you can manage an A but be ready for a boring class. It's really easy to fall asleep in his class because he lectures for the full 75 minutes. Pay attention because little details end because they end up on exams.
Please avoid
One of the worst classes, I have taken in my academic career. Each lecture consisted of monotonous ramblings and incomprehensible speed up youtube videos. Lots video and essay group projects outside of the class hours. Prepare to memorize a lot of useless information for the exams and immediately forget it. Its a good thing he curves a bit.
Okay guys, listen to me please when I say, as long as you do your work and study you should be okay for his CIS2200 class. It really isn't that bad, you just have to study. He is great when responding to emails (spring 2020 online class wise), and he is clear with what's on the tests.
he talks very fast but fails to actually teach the material since he's going so fast. his group projects aren't really group work, they're meant to be done individually and then you are supposed to compare answers . 4 group projects for a 4 week summer class is ridiculous. He is currently teaching chapter 3 but is giving a an exam today on 1-6.
Definitely a nice guy who cares for his students. He is passionate about the material for sure and grades assignments in a timely manner. I took his summer class and he talks really fast to get through the condensed material, so I'm not sure if he'll be like this for the fall/spring. His exams have WAY too many questions. That is my main problem.
i learn a lot of things from him. He is very respectful. I would like to have him as many as it possible for my future classes.
Prof. Appel was an absolute joy in online class. He teaches with such passion that all you have to do is listen. Are people really complaining about having to watch videos? Would you rather read a textbook? I absolutely love his lectures, love how he speaks and he actually makes me laugh a lot. He's also a very clear grader. Take him 100%.
Prof Appel does go on & on when he is lecturing but he's very knowledgeable. If you take good notes & read the slides you will pass his exams, but beware they're a bit challenging especially with the amount of time you have. You'll have group papers to do, PLEASE follow his instructions cause he's very OCD with what he wants. Not the worst prof tbh
Not a fair grader, he definitely does not care about his students. Worst professor in cs department.
He is not the worst professor out there, as long as you read your lectures and do really well on the group essays and exams, you will be fine. He even curves too
Most boring class you'll ever take. Guaranteed. There are couple of interesting topics. It gets easier throughout the semester when you have an understanding of what he wants. The first exam was difficult (curved), but the rest were easier. Only watch the videos and readings that will be on the exams to save time. There are group assignments too.
I find his lectures entertaining in many ways: interesting material and his teaching style. Yes, he talks, hmm, nonstop? and stops for five seconds to take a sip of water from his precious mug, haha. The 3 exams are definitely not difficult if you spend time rewatching his lectures and take good notes. It's recommended to put in effort in the GPPs.
Honestly professor Appel was great. If you really want to learn come to his class. His tests seem long but they are fair. Everythign that he explain in class comes on the exams. It was the first class that I actually paid attention to and learned a lot. He has projects, but he explained them in class in case you get lost or something. Thank you!!!!
Goes through excel projects step by step with the class. Very energetic during lectures, reads straight from the textbook so you will know what to expect on exams. 100% take him, especially if you are open to summer classes.
Prof. Appel is a great teacher. Group assignments were really annoying and unfair since you had to rely on other people's competence to get a grade, and it didn't help that he's a really tough grader. His tests are straight out the slides. He's really funny and never boring. Always very energetic. Pretty uptight but also down to earth. I'd retake.
The course material isn't THAT interesting (not too boring either though) but this class was very easy. I studied the day of finals/midterms just by looking at the slides & got above 95 on all of them. He does take attendance seriously so just show up even if you dont wanna hear him talk. 100% take this class for an easy A he's a really nice prof
his lectures are pretty boring and all the work is based off of it. goes way too hard for a philosophy professor at Baruch especially for students who are just trying to get their minor out of the way. Much better options out there. dont take this class unless theres really no other choice
Probably the worst Professor I have taken in Baruch. The way he speaks is irritating. The lectures were based on slides but it was soo many it was hard to catch up. Truly believe you should take another professor instead of him.
The course material isn't really that bad, he just doesn't stop talking. His class is fairly boring because all he does is talk but the midterms and final are based entirely on the slides, just reviewing them a couple hours before the test would prep you for it all. 2 group projects, 1 video, 1 paper, so just hope you get a good group.
The lectures are kinda boring but he tries to make it more enjoyable through his passionate teaching. There are two midterms, one final, 2 group projects, and quizzes over each chapter. This class does require a lot of work so I would not take it for a GPA boost.
Veryyy knowledgeable and passioinateeee about computer ethics! He takes and cares a lot about attendance, but chill class- he justttt talks for 1.15hrs. no need to participate, 2 group 6 page essays, bi-weekly online quizzes (even if class is in person), 2 midterms, 1 final.
The class was ok but the lectures were long and boring, and a lot of memorization was needed. He is pretty detailed and compared to other classes it seemed a bit too much. The papers are harshly graded but they won't really impact your grade that much if you do well in the exams.
Prof. Appel is passionate, but his lectures can drag. Exams are tough, so study the slides closely. Group projects are a pain, but doing well on them and the tests will keep your grade up. Unstuck ai is a great study tool alongside the textbook.
This man can definitely make one lecture feel like five lol but he genuinely cares about his students and grades fairly. Exams were moved to be online which was nice, review the slides and you'll be completely fine. He sticks to the material he provides. Highly recommend
Very straightforward with his grading criteria and what he expects of his students. There are 6 online quizzes (1 dropped), 2 midterms, 2 group projects and a final. The group essays can be tedious if you don't have a great group, however they are very doable if you put work in. Lectures are long, there's no need to participate -- just show up.
For this class, the work is 2 group papers, 2 midterms, 1 final, and online quizzes. Make sure you show up to class because he does take it seriously. He also is not engaging with the class, he talks for an hour straight nonstop. If you do good on the papers and exams, you should be fine in the class.
Best professor I had this semester. The class is engaging, and he narrates like a cartoon character which really draws you in. Yes, he does speak nonstop and his lectures can be a drag sometimes. Nonetheless, the class is really interesting.
